  1. 0:00If you ask a mechanic what the most
  2. 0:01boring, reliable, sensible car on Earth
  3. 0:04is, they'll tell you it's a Honda. But
  4. 0:06if you ask a highway patrol officer what
  5. 0:08car just flew past a speed trap at 2 in
  6. 0:10the morning, revving to 9,000 RPM and
  7. 0:13waking up the entire county, they will
  8. 0:15also tell you it's a Honda. No other
  9. 0:17brand on the planet suffers from a worst
  10. 0:19case of split personality disorder.
  11. 0:21Honda builds sensible hybrid crossovers
  12. 0:23for dentists while simultaneously
  13. 0:26engineering high-reving track monsters
  14. 0:28for people who treat speed limits like a
  15. 0:30suggestion. You don't just buy a Honda,
  16. 0:32you choose a side. From the invisible
  17. 0:34economy cars keeping the world moving to
  18. 0:36the forbidden JDM legends that
  19. 0:38enthusiasts are currently paying Porsche
  20. 0:40money for on Facebook Marketplace. Like
  21. 0:43genuinely, people are out here selling
  22. 0:45kidneys for 1998 hatchbacks. Level one,
  23. 0:48the NPC car. Civic LX HRV. Civic LX.
  24. 0:54$25,000,
  25. 0:56158 horsepower, 0 to 60 in around 8
  26. 0:59seconds. It's a car gets you to work,
  27. 1:02gets you home. It basically gets the job
  28. 1:04done that every car should be able to
  29. 1:06do. Gets you from point A to point B.
  30. 1:08The HRV is the Civic that got slightly
  31. 1:11taller for people who refuse to sit on
  32. 1:12the ground. $27,000.
  33. 1:15Same engine. They stretched it upward
  34. 1:17like a piece of taffy and charged you
  35. 1:19two grand more. The LX owner is a
  36. 1:21college student, an Uber driver.
  37. 1:23Somebody's parents bought it for their
  38. 1:25first car. But here's the thing. A
  39. 1:275-year-old Civic still sells for 75% of
  40. 1:30its original MSRP. A 5-year-old Nissan
  41. 1:33Sentra sells for half. Honda has been
  42. 1:35quietly printing on this thing for 50
  43. 1:37years, and the internet still treats it
  44. 1:39like a starter pack. Meanwhile, the
  45. 1:41Civic owner is sitting in his recently
  46. 1:43appreciated economy car like, "Yeah,
  47. 1:45that's right. Level two, the sensible
  48. 1:48adult." Accord CRV. These two are
  49. 1:51probably 60% of every Honda sold in
  50. 1:53America. Accords around $29,000,
  51. 1:57climbs to $42,000 loaded. CRV, same idea
  52. 2:00in SUV form. Base, $32,000.
  53. 2:04Hybrid touring around $42,000.
  54. 2:06The CRV owner is your friend's mom, your
  55. 2:09dentist, your dentist's wife. Every PTA
  56. 2:12meeting in North America has nine CRVS
  57. 2:15in the parking lot. You could play a CRV
  58. 2:17version of Where's Waldo at a Whole
  59. 2:18Foods and lose. The Accord is the same
  60. 2:21energy, lower to the ground. 35-year-old
  61. 2:23in business casual, two kids gave up the
  62. 2:26Mustang Dream around year three of the
  63. 2:28mortgage. He bought the Accord because
  64. 2:30his dad bought an Accord and his dad's
  65. 2:32Accord has 380,000 miles on it. That
  66. 2:35thing has been to the moon and back
  67. 2:37twice and it still starts on the first
  68. 2:39try. Now, here's the strange part. The
  69. 2:41CRV and Civic are two of the most stolen
  70. 2:43cars in Canada. Toronto police bought
  71. 2:46four new helicopters last year
  72. 2:47specifically to chase down stolen
  73. 2:49vehicles. And the cars they're chasing
  74. 2:51are Hond's. Imagine being a Toronto cop
  75. 2:53in a helicopter. $4 million worth of
  76. 2:56aircraft hunting down a 2015 CRV. Your
  77. 3:00car is so reliable that organized crime
  78. 3:02steals it for parts. Honestly, that's
  79. 3:04the highest compliment a car can get.
  80. 3:07Level three, the family tax. Pilot,
  81. 3:10passport, Odyssey, Ridgeline, the I have
  82. 3:13kids now tier, aka the my back hurts and
  83. 3:16I drink coffee out of a Yeti now stage
  84. 3:18of life. Pilot, three row SUV, $285
  85. 3:22horsepower, $42,000 base, $55,000 with
  86. 3:26the Trail Sport for the family of five
  87. 3:28who needed a Pilot. Passport two row
  88. 3:31sportier just got redesigned with
  89. 3:33off-road trims around $46,000
  90. 3:36for the parent of two who refuses to be
  91. 3:38seen in a minivan. The I still got it
  92. 3:40delusion vehicle Odyssey minivan best in
  93. 3:44the segment by a remar around $40,000.
  94. 3:47Magic slide second row cabin watch
  95. 3:50system so you can watch your kids in the
  96. 3:51back when they're screaming. They
  97. 3:53literally built surveillance into the
  98. 3:54car so you can confirm in real time
  99. 3:56which child is the problem. The Odyssey
  100. 3:58owner stopped pretending three kids ago.
  101. 4:00He's the happiest person on this entire
  102. 4:02list. He's not lying to himself anymore.
  103. 4:05He's free. The Ridgeline is Honda's only
  104. 4:07truck. Unibody. Technically based on the
  105. 4:10Pilot truck guys online lose their
  106. 4:12minds. It's not a real truck. Meanwhile,
  107. 4:15the Ridgeline owner is towing a boat,
  108. 4:17hauling mulch, getting better fuel
  109. 4:18economy than all of them. The truck guys
  110. 4:20are mad. The truck guys are always mad.
  111. 4:23It's a personality. Real quick, most of
  112. 4:26you watching this aren't buying any of
  113. 4:27these new. You're on Facebook
  114. 4:29Marketplace at 11 p.m. messaging some
  115. 4:31guy named Devon about his 2002 Civic.
  116. 4:34Devon has not responded in 6 hours.
  117. 4:36Devon is mowing his lawn. I built a tool
  118. 4:38called the car buyer's war room.
  119. 4:40Calculates the real number, not the
  120. 4:42sticker. Has a negotiation calculator
  121. 4:44that tells you exactly what to offer
  122. 4:46Devon when he texts back. Lowest is
  123. 4:4819,500 firm. Link in the description.
  124. 4:52Stop the video and go check it out.
  125. 4:54Level four, VTEC addicts. Now we get to
  126. 4:57the part most of you actually clicked
  127. 4:58for. CRX, EG, and EK Civic. The cars
  128. 5:02that built Honda's entire enthusiast
  129. 5:05culture. The CRX came out in 1983. Two
  130. 5:08seats, tiny hatchback, around 2100 lb.
  131. 5:12This car weighs less than three of me.
  132. 5:14The SI had 108 horsepower from a 1.6 L.
  133. 5:18Slow on paper, devastating on a back
  134. 5:20road. the kind of slow where you lose
  135. 5:22drag races to commuters but humiliate a
  136. 5:24911 in the canyons. In Japan and Europe,
  137. 5:27the CRX got the B16A, the first VTEC
  138. 5:30engine ever fitted to a Honda chassis.
  139. 5:33150 horsepower naturally aspirated in
  140. 5:361989. America did not get this version.
  141. 5:39America was watching Magnum PI. CRX got
  142. 5:42killed in 1991 and replaced with the
  143. 5:44Dell Soul. The Dell Soul is the cousin
  144. 5:47nobody invites to Thanksgiving. Then the
  145. 5:49EG and EK Civic hatchbacks. 1992 to
  146. 5:522000. Double wishbone front suspension.
  147. 5:55Lego level engine compatibility. The
  148. 5:58platform that the entire K swap industry
  149. 6:00was built on. Drop a 350 horsepower K20
  150. 6:04into a 2400lb hatchback. And a Porsche
  151. 6:07owner has a very bad day. He's calling
  152. 6:09his therapist Monday morning. And in
  153. 6:112001, three of those Civics stole a
  154. 6:14semi-truck on screen in the Fast and the
  155. 6:16Furious. Paul Walker's black 1993 EJ1
  156. 6:20Civic became one of the most replicated
  157. 6:22cars on Earth. Honda did not pay for the
  158. 6:24placement. The Civic became a tuner icon
  159. 6:27by accident. A clean stock EG used to be
  160. 6:30a $3,000 car. Now it's $15,000 to
  161. 6:33$25,000.
  162. 6:35Everyone who sold theirs in 2010 for
  163. 6:37$4,000 is currently staring at the
  164. 6:40ceiling at 3:00 a.m. wondering where it
  165. 6:42all went wrong. Level five, the modern
  166. 6:44pep. Civic SI. Civic Type R. This is
  167. 6:48where Honda still actively makes cars
  168. 6:50for the internet. Civic SI, $31,000,
  169. 6:54200 horsepower, six-speed manual. Manual
  170. 6:57is the only option on purpose. Honda
  171. 7:00looked at the data and said, "No, we're
  172. 7:01keeping the stick. Cope." Legend
  173. 7:04behavior. The SI owner is 23, lives with
  174. 7:07two roommates, makes $58,000 a year, has
  175. 7:10$7,000 worth of bolt-ons, a short
  176. 7:13shifter he did not need, a Type R killer
  177. 7:16sticker on the rear window. It is not a
  178. 7:18Type R killer. It is in fact a Type R
  179. 7:20losser, but we're not going to tell him
  180. 7:22that. Let him have this Civic Type R.
  181. 7:25The FL5, 315 horsepower, 2.0 0 L turbo,
  182. 7:30six-speed manual only, $48,000,
  183. 7:340 to 60 in 4.9 seconds. Set the Nurburg
  184. 7:37Ring frontwheel drive production lap
  185. 7:39record at 744. Beat cars with twice the
  186. 7:42power and three times the price. Made
  187. 7:44grown European engineers question their
  188. 7:46careers. Type R started in 1997 with the
  189. 7:49EK9. Japan only handbalanced pistons.
  190. 7:53Somebody at Honda literally weighed each
  191. 7:55piston with their hands like they were
  192. 7:57panning for gold. Then the FK8 from 2017
  193. 8:00to 2021 with the wing that could land a
  194. 8:03small plane. That wing has its own zip
  195. 8:05code. The internet hated it at launch.
  196. 8:07Now they're going up in value. Funny how
  197. 8:10that works. The current FL has been
  198. 8:12getting $5,000 to $10,000 dealer markup
  199. 8:15since launch. There's a website called
  200. 8:17the FL5 markup map where Type R buyers
  201. 8:20track which dealers are honest. That's
  202. 8:22not a car community. That's a citizen
  203. 8:24surveillance network. And the news that
  204. 8:26should be a bigger deal. The Type R is
  205. 8:28being killed in Europe in 2026. 40
  206. 8:31Ultimate Editions total. America gets
  207. 8:34one more year, then it goes hybrid. The
  208. 8:36FL5 on a dealer lot right now is the
  209. 8:39last manual non-hybrid Honda hot hatch
  210. 8:41ever made, so no pressure or anything.
  211. 8:44Side note on VTEC, Honda invented
  212. 8:46variable valve timing in 1989. The cam
  213. 8:49profile changes at higher RPM. Cam swap
  214. 8:52engages around 5,500 RPM. Engine wakes
  215. 8:55up. That's VTEC just kicked in. Yo, Tik
  216. 8:58Tok turned decades of engineering
  217. 9:00brilliance into a sound effect in a
  218. 9:02kid's edit. Apologies to the engineers.
  219. 9:04Level six, the handbuilt legends.
  220. 9:07Integra Type R S2000. The two Hondas
  221. 9:10whose prices broke. Okay, we have to
  222. 9:12address something first. The Integra
  223. 9:14Type R was sold in America with an Acura
  224. 9:16badge. Acura is Honda's luxury and
  225. 9:19performance division in the US, same way
  226. 9:21Lexus is to Toyota. In Japan and the
  227. 9:24rest of the world, it's a Honda. Same
  228. 9:26factory, same engines, same engineers.
  229. 9:28Globally, it's a Honda. Anyone in the
  230. 9:31comments who tries to well actually me
  231. 9:33on this, I'm not reading it. Moving on.
  232. 9:35Integra Type R DC2 1995 to 2001.
  233. 9:40Laturally aspirated, 195 horsepower at
  234. 9:448,000 RPM. Handbuilt engines,
  235. 9:47handbalanced pistons, 2,600 lb,
  236. 9:50frontwheel drive. It's been called the
  237. 9:52greatest front-wheel drive car ever
  238. 9:54made. Not by one magazine, by all of
  239. 9:57them. Top Gear, Evo, Car and Driver,
  240. 10:00every car journalist on the planet who
  241. 10:03agrees on absolutely nothing, all
  242. 10:05collectively pointed at this car and
  243. 10:07said, "Yeah, that one. A clean DC2 used
  244. 10:10to be a $15,000 car. Today, they sell
  245. 10:13for $80,000 to $150,000.
  246. 10:17Pristine examples cross $200,000 at
  247. 10:20auction. $200,000
  248. 10:22for an Integra. That's Civic money taken
  249. 10:24to the casino and bet on black. Then the
  250. 10:27S2000 1999 to 2009. 2.0 L naturally
  251. 10:32aspirated 4-cylinder. 240 horsepower.
  252. 10:36Red line at 9,000 RPM. 9,000. Not a
  253. 10:40typo. A Honda 4 cylinder that revs
  254. 10:42higher than a Ferrari 458. The same
  255. 10:45company that made your aunt's CRV built
  256. 10:47an engine that outscreens a Ferrari.
  257. 10:49Honda was casually doing minivans on a
  258. 10:51Monday and breaking world records on a
  259. 10:53Tuesday. Honda killed it in 2009.
  260. 10:56Roadsters were dying. The Miata was
  261. 10:58cheaper. Didn't even say goodbye. Then
  262. 11:01car YouTube grew up. A clean AP1 used to
  263. 11:03be $15,000.
  264. 11:05Now it's $35,000.
  265. 11:07A clean AP2 Club racer goes over
  266. 11:09$100,000. The same people who passed on
  267. 11:12it in 2012 are currently writing essays
  268. 11:15about how they always knew. The S2000
  269. 11:17owner doesn't drive it to the grocery
  270. 11:19store. He drives it to Canyon Roads on
  271. 11:21Sunday mornings. He wears a watch. He
  272. 11:23takes photos of the TAC at 8,500.
  273. 11:26He has a YouTube channel with 47
  274. 11:28subscribers. Level 7. The Apex NSX both
  275. 11:33generations first gen NSX 1990 to 2005
  276. 11:383.0 0 L naturally aspirated V6 mid
  277. 11:42engine all aluminum body 270 horsepower
  278. 11:46sold as Acura in the US as Honda
  279. 11:48everywhere else. The lore Honda flew and
  280. 11:51Senna out to test the chassis before
  281. 11:53launch. Senna told them the rear was too
  282. 11:55soft. The greatest driver of all time
  283. 11:57hopped in the car, frowned a little, and
  284. 11:59Honda was like, "Say less." And rebuilt
  285. 12:02the entire back end. When the production
  286. 12:04NSX came out, Ferrari panicked. Not in a
  287. 12:07meme way, literally. The 348 was
  288. 12:10supposed to be Ferrari's mid-engine
  289. 12:11king, and a Honda walked in with the
  290. 12:14same performance, daily driver
  291. 12:16reliability, air conditioning that
  292. 12:18worked, and Senna's name on the chassis.
  293. 12:20Ferrari quietly reworked the F355 partly
  294. 12:23in response. A Honda forced Ferrari to
  295. 12:26take notes. That's not a car. That's a
  296. 12:28war crime. A clean one is now $130,000.
  297. 12:32The patient guys who bought them used in
  298. 12:342010 for $40,000 are very calmly winning
  299. 12:38right now. Second gen NSX 2016 to 2022.
  300. 12:43Twin turbo V6, three electric motors,
  301. 12:46573 horsepower, 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.
  302. 12:50Built in Mary'sville, Ohio, not Japan,
  303. 12:53Ohio. Nobody in America could get over
  304. 12:56driving a six-f figureure car with the
  305. 12:57same logo as their dentist's RDX. They'd
  306. 13:00rather have the prancing horse than the
  307. 13:02actual better car. Honda killed it in
  308. 13:042022. The Apex mid engine Senotuned
  309. 13:08built by the same company that makes
  310. 13:10your dad's lawn mower. That is the most
  311. 13:12insane sentence in this entire video.
  312. 13:14And I'm not even exaggerating what I
  313. 13:16left off. The prelude is coming back
  314. 13:18this year. Hybrid, 200 horsepower, no
  315. 13:22manual. Honda built a sports coupe with
  316. 13:24no real transmission. They put a thing
  317. 13:26called S+ shift in it that simulates a
  318. 13:29quick shifting automatic. A gearbox
  319. 13:32cosplaying as a gearbox. The Prelude
  320. 13:35forums have not recovered. The Honda Fit
  321. 13:37killed in 2020. People still ask for it
  322. 13:40back every week on Reddit. The Civic
  323. 13:42Coupe killed in 2020. There's an actual
  324. 13:44change.org petition for a Civic Coupe.
  325. 13:47That is the most car enthusiast thing
  326. 13:49ever. The manual Accord killed in 2019.
  327. 13:53Poor one out. The Honda Prologue EV
  328. 13:56co-developed with GM shares its bones
  329. 13:59with the Chevrolet Blazer EV. The car
  330. 14:01community will not let Honda forget
  331. 14:03this. The JDM Type R generations that
  332. 14:05never came to America. The Honda Jet,
  333. 14:08which you can buy for $5 million. The F1
  334. 14:11power unit that just took Max for
  335. 14:12Stappen to four straight world
  336. 14:14championships. None of it fits in seven
  337. 14:16levels. That's its own video. Drop.
  338. 14:19Honda does everything in the comments
  339. 14:20and we'll make it. Seven levels. From a
  340. 14:23$25,000 sedan you'll forget you bought
  341. 14:26to a Senna tuned supercar Ferrari was
  342. 14:28scared of. No other brand on Earth has
  343. 14:30this range. You've got $40,000 in hand,
  344. 14:33FL Type R, or a clean DC2 Integra Type R
  345. 14:37that says Acura on the front. Drop it in
  346. 14:40the comments. And if you say a CRV, you
  347. 14:43are wrong. But I want to hear your
  348. 14:44reasoning. If you're about to buy any
  349. 14:46car on this list, the war room is in the
  350. 14:49description. Hit like, subscribe if you
  351. 14:51haven't already.
