The 3-2-1 Speaking Trick That Forces You To Stop Rambling! — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00How do you train your brain to be able
- 0:02to think faster when you're being put on
- 0:04the spot? You see, when someone asks you
- 0:06a question and you're not prepared, what
- 0:08happens? Your brain hits the panic
- 0:10button. You open a dozen browser tabs in
- 0:12your head trying to scramble for what to
- 0:14say. And as you start verbalizing your
- 0:17thoughts, it causes you to ramble
- 0:19instead of speaking clear points. This
- 0:21can be extremely frustrating and
- 0:23sometimes even embarrassing. How do I
- 0:25know? Because I used to do this. It
- 0:27makes you feel awful. It makes you feel
- 0:29incompetent and it makes you look like
- 0:31you're not confident. My name is Vin
- 0:32Jang and I'm a communication skills
- 0:34teacher and I want to share with you the
- 0:36exact solution to this common problem
- 0:39which I shared on stage at my recent
- 0:41public speaking workshop in Sydney. So
- 0:43make sure you listen closely. With
- 0:45prepared content, I'm much more
- 0:47confident. If I have to speak off the
- 0:49cuff, a lot less confident. Okay, so
- 0:51this is really important to dissect here
- 0:53because if someone asks you a question
- 0:56and you're not prepared, then what do
- 0:57you fall back on? Generally rambling.
- 1:00This is where frameworks are important.
- 1:02So when you got a framework, you fall
- 1:03back on the framework instead. How many
- 1:05of you use frameworks when you
- 1:07communicate? You got frameworks you use.
- 1:08Okay, fantastic. So small part of the
- 1:09room. I'd say less than 10% of you. I'm
- 1:11going to share with you a very simple
- 1:12framework. This is one I still use and
- 1:14I'm using it in this Q&A right now. 3 2
- 1:171. I love this framework. It's
- 1:19fantastic. The most brilliant thing. I
- 1:21use this for social media content. I use
- 1:23this to do Q&A. I use this when I have
- 1:24very little time to prep. 321 means
- 1:26what? It means three steps, two types,
- 1:30and the one thing. 3 2 1. Three steps,
- 1:33two types, one thing. So, I'm going to
- 1:35put you on the spot, and I'm going to
- 1:37teach you how to use it. So, could uh
- 1:39could the audience members could you
- 1:40could you give me a random topic?
- 1:43Sorry. Avocados.
- 1:46Avocados. Thank you. Right.
- 1:49Good. So, avocado. The one thing about
- 1:52avocados is it's incredible on a keto
- 1:54diet, right? It's just fantastic. I love
- 1:57eating avocados and it's such a high
- 1:59protein source. It's fantastic. Right?
- 2:01So, that's the one thing. That's me
- 2:02using the one thing. So, I immediately
- 2:04can give my brain something to lean on
- 2:05as opposed to, oh my god, what do I talk
- 2:07about? Do I talk about it's green? Do I
- 2:08talk about when you eat avocados? Do you
- 2:09talk about when it's ripe? Do you talk
- 2:10about if you leave it in your fridge too
- 2:11long it goes black and you can't eat it
- 2:12or can you still eat? I'm not sure. I
- 2:13don't know what I'm talking about.
- 2:14Should I put all this tomato in it?
- 2:15Should I have it the way the Mexicans do
- 2:17it? That's what your brain does. And
- 2:19your when your brain does that, you go
- 2:21blank. You go blank and then you don't
- 2:24say anything and you get tongue twisted.
- 2:26Whereas this just gives me a framework.
- 2:27I picked the one thing because it was
- 2:29easy. The one thing is I love it when
- 2:31I'm on a keto diet, right? And then you
- 2:33can go, well, there are two ways, two
- 2:35types. I'll just switch this up a little
- 2:37bit and say two ways. Two ways to have
- 2:38an avocado, right? You can smash it on
- 2:41toast or you can eat it like a fruit.
- 2:45And those who do that animals, right?
- 2:48But there are two ways, right? So
- 2:50immediately my brain I give it a
- 2:52framework to immediately go to or I I
- 2:54can give you three steps on how to
- 2:55prepare avocado. First step, obviously
- 2:57cut it in half, whichever way you like,
- 2:59but get the get the skin off the
- 3:00avocado. Step two, mash it. Step three,
- 3:03salt and pepper and lemon. Unreal. So my
- 3:06brain immediately is able to do that. So
- 3:08you're watching this, you're thinking,
- 3:09"Yeah, yeah, cool. Cool story, bro. But
- 3:11can I do it?" You can because you're
- 3:14going to do it. So stand there.
- 3:17All right. So you you get to pick
- 3:18whichever one you you don't have to do
- 3:19all three. You just pick one. All right.
- 3:21Okay. So ready for the random topic. No.
- 3:24And it's okay. You're never ready. No
- 3:27one's ever ready. It's fine. No one's
- 3:28ever ready. You see, I'm going to give
- 3:30you the random topic and I want you to
- 3:32formulate your answer in 3 seconds. I
- 3:35know it's crazy. I'm going to simulate
- 3:36pressure here for you. Okay. So the
- 3:38topic is and pause. Before I play the
- 3:41rest of the clip of my student
- 3:43absolutely crushing the 3:1 framework, I
- 3:46just want to remind you that this is
- 3:47just one of many communication
- 3:49frameworks that you can learn. I
- 3:50recorded a free 2hour training diving
- 3:53deeper into the 3:1 framework and two
- 3:55other powerful communication frameworks
- 3:57that will help you avoid going blank
- 3:59while under pressure. It's going to stop
- 4:01you rambling and increase your
- 4:03confidence in everyday conversations. If
- 4:04you want access to that training, it's
- 4:06super easy. Just click the first link
- 4:07you see in the description below or
- 4:09check out the pin comment. I've put a
- 4:11link there as well. All right. Now,
- 4:13please watch the rest of the video. It's
- 4:15amazing how she handles this. So, the
- 4:18topic is travel. Three. Two. The one
- 4:23thing about travel is it's magnificent.
- 4:25Boom. You can go anywhere you want.
- 4:27Perfect. Love it. Round of applause,
- 4:28please. Thank you. Next. Next. Straight
- 4:31away into the mic. Next one. Two types.
- 4:33Two types of travel is uh you can travel
- 4:35regionally and you can travel
- 4:36internationally via a plane. Round of
- 4:38applause again. That was fantastic. Um
- 4:40again, three steps to travel. Three
- 4:43steps to travel is plan it, book it, go.
- 4:45Big round of applause. You She did it
- 4:48right. It's It's so easy. Yet, when we
- 4:51don't have frameworks, our brains just
- 4:53go to, "Oh my god, what do you mean
- 4:56trouble? I hate travel. I don't want my
- 4:57kids to watch." And then your brain goes
- 4:58crazy. You did that. You did that before
- 5:00I finished counting down to three. Yeah,
- 5:02that was so arrogant.
- 5:04I was didn't even let me finish. I was
- 5:06still going and you I got this man. And
- 5:08you see that that that's the difference
- 5:09between being prepared with a framework
- 5:11because now you're excited to
- 5:13communicate. When you're not prepared,
- 5:15you're not excited. You're scared. You
- 5:17don't want to communicate. Whereas you
- 5:19leaned into it, if you noticed your body
- 5:21language, you came into the mic. You
- 5:22walked towards me because you felt
- 5:24ready. So when you fall back on a
- 5:26framework, it just makes things simpler.
