Testing the NEW CAJO Outpost 128 PDL… Here’s What I Found — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00The Kaku Outpost 128 PDL has been
- 0:02getting a lot of attention lately and I
- 0:04totally get why. But today we're going
- 0:05to actually put it to the test on the
- 0:07water and see if it's as practical as
- 0:09they say. We're going to test out the
- 0:10features, the pedal drive, and even do
- 0:12some fishing out of it. But first, dad
- 0:13joke of the day. What kind of shoes do
- 0:15ninjas wear?
- 0:17Sneakers.
- 0:29All right, so here's the Kaku Outpost
- 0:31128. Shout out to Eco Fishing. If you
- 0:33need to buy a kayak, they'll ship it
- 0:35directly to your house. Super protected
- 0:37as well. One really, really cool feature
- 0:40is this strap right here, which can
- 0:42function as a paddle park, but also
- 0:45holds down your rods while you're in
- 0:47transport. So I got four of my rods
- 0:49there. They're tucked in under the chair
- 0:51and then they're strapped right there
- 0:52with a really strong Velcro, so they're
- 0:54not going anywhere. I really like that
- 0:56feature. So let's get it out on the
- 0:57water and see how this kayak performs.
- 1:01>> [music]
- 1:07>> I got a really minimalist setup today.
- 1:09If you need a place to store your soft
- 1:10plastics and you don't want to take a
- 1:11lot of stuff with you, these North Shore
- 1:13fishing bags are awesome for your
- 1:15plastics. So I got all my plastics in
- 1:17there and I just have a couple tackle
- 1:19boxes with some hard baits and my
- 1:22terminal tackle.
- 1:32It's the perfect kayak if you want to
- 1:34cart it around. It's really not that
- 1:36heavy and I got it I mean I got it
- 1:38loaded up with most of what I'm going to
- 1:39bring.
- 1:40You know, if you got to maybe put a
- 1:41motor or battery, you'll have a little
- 1:43bit more weight, but overall, still
- 1:46really not that heavy to be
- 1:48dragging around. Can't forget to set it
- 1:50down the phone. Last thing you want to
- 1:51do is
- 1:52drop my iPhone in the water.
- 1:55Cuz this baby's been kicking for about 4
- 1:56years. so going to make it last a little
- 1:58bit longer if we can.
- 1:59There we go.
- 2:01Not going nowhere.
- 2:13Oh, can't forget to unhook
- 2:17the rudder.
- 2:18All right, paddling this bad boy. This
- 2:21seat is pretty high up. I mean, it's
- 2:22it's higher up than some of my other
- 2:24kayaks, my Old Town, either of my Old
- 2:27Towns. I don't know if it's as high up
- 2:29as the Hammer. I mean, you you feel like
- 2:32you're sitting high up right away. But,
- 2:35even with it sitting high, I mean,
- 2:37obviously we're not in rough waters.
- 2:38First impression on stability, seated
- 2:41down, high up seat is not that it's
- 2:44unstable or wobbly. I mean, my knees are
- 2:47almost at a 90° angle, as you can see,
- 2:49and I mean, there's plenty of space, and
- 2:51it doesn't feel unstable or tippy with
- 2:54this high up seating right off the rip.
- 2:56Now, let's
- 2:57put the paddle back right here. I do
- 2:59like the little paddle
- 3:01compartments that they have
- 3:03on either side. Now, let's get this
- 3:06pedal drive situated. Excuse me if my
- 3:09beard gets in the way.
- 3:11All right, so to deploy this,
- 3:14we got to
- 3:16first of all,
- 3:17all right, so got to make sure it's all
- 3:19the way up. All right, so to deploy
- 3:21this,
- 3:22you got to pinch these this little these
- 3:24two little clasps right here, and then
- 3:26drop it down.
- 3:28Then when it's down, you twist this
- 3:30knob, and it's locked in place, okay?
- 3:33So, that's two steps. Pinch the clasps,
- 3:36bring it down, twist these knobs, so
- 3:38three steps. And then you got to
- 3:41loosen up this lever right here, drop it
- 3:43down,
- 3:44loosen it up, I mean, tighten it up
- 3:46again. So,
- 3:48five steps
- 3:50to just drop down the pedal drive.
- 3:55Oh, I lied. Six steps. So, I forgot the
- 3:57little indexer right here. All right.
- 3:59So, just pull, twist.
- 4:01Now,
- 4:03you're good to go.
- 4:05I got to adjust my seat here momentarily
- 4:08so I get a little bit closer to the
- 4:09drive. It's not too loud. I mean, I hear
- 4:12I hear the drive. It's a little bit
- 4:13louder than the drive on my
- 4:17on my other kayaks.
- 4:19But, it's not it's not incredibly loud.
- 4:21I mean, it's definitely something you
- 4:22can get used to. The resistance is is
- 4:25good. It's not very You you don't feel a
- 4:27lot of resistance. I do I mean, again,
- 4:29one of the highlights of this pedal
- 4:30drive is how freaking light it is.
- 4:32Noticeably lighter than any of my other
- 4:36pedal drives. We have the steering on
- 4:38the left-hand side like I showed you
- 4:40guys during the overview. I have the
- 4:42steering right here. I really like it uh
- 4:45that it's on the chair. I don't have to
- 4:46bend down to access it. It's just right
- 4:49here close to me within arm's reach, but
- 4:52also within
- 4:54whatever seating position I'm in,
- 4:56whether I'm more reclined or less
- 4:57reclined or front, back,
- 5:00up, down, it doesn't matter. It's always
- 5:02going to be right here. One of the great
- 5:04things about prop drives, of course, is
- 5:06the instant reverse. Once you stop, you
- 5:09just kick it in reverse. It is a little
- 5:11bit louder in uh in reverse. I'm
- 5:13noticing that. Seems like it's a little
- 5:15bit louder
- 5:16when I'm kicking it in reverse. And it's
- 5:18also a lot slower in reverse than in
- 5:21forward. So, maybe the reverse gears are
- 5:23a little bit smaller. I'm not a
- 5:25mechanical guy. I'm just
- 5:27That's what I'm guessing. So, it's
- 5:28moving moving obviously a little bit
- 5:30slower in reverse
- 5:32versus forward. In forward, it's a 10:1
- 5:35gear ratio. Yeah, you're you're moving
- 5:36and cruising
- 5:38in the forward. And then when you kick
- 5:39it into backwards,
- 5:41and I'm even going against the wind when
- 5:42I'm going forward,
- 5:44it's a lot slower, noticeably
- 5:48noticeably slower when you kick it into
- 5:50reverse. So, I mean, is that a deal
- 5:52breaker? No. How often are you going to
- 5:54reverse besides to get out of obstacles?
- 5:57You know, so maybe when you're trying to
- 5:58get out of the way of some obstacles or
- 6:00maneuver might be a little bit of a
- 6:01pain.
- 6:02Uh
- 6:03but it is it is what it is. I mean, you
- 6:05still have your paddle here so you can
- 6:06make quicker cuts,
- 6:08sharper cuts. All right, so we're going
- 6:09to get to the middle of the lake here
- 6:11and then we're going to try to retract
- 6:13the drive and deploy it again. Cuz one
- 6:15of my favorite things about the Old Town
- 6:18drives, the Native Hammer uh X Range
- 6:21Propel Drive is how easy it is to deploy
- 6:24and retract. I mean, you're just talking
- 6:25about one swing of your arm.
- 6:27This one seems to have a couple more
- 6:28steps in between. Okay, not seems to, it
- 6:31does. So, I want to see how much of a
- 6:33pain in the butt it it is cuz it's going
- 6:35to depend. Like if you're floating some
- 6:36rivers and you're going to you're going
- 6:38to hit some obstacles quick, you need to
- 6:39be able to get that drive up quick. Uh
- 6:42if you're going to use this drive in
- 6:43that situation. All right. So, we stop
- 6:46the drive. First thing we got to do is
- 6:47index
- 6:49the prop. So, you twist it right here
- 6:52and what you do is you wait for it to
- 6:54hit. It'll index
- 6:56right there. So, that's how you know the
- 6:58prop is up and down
- 7:00and uh it's going to come right up. All
- 7:02right, so you
- 7:03you loosen the lever,
- 7:05bring it up.
- 7:07You tighten down the lever. Oh.
- 7:10All right, so apparently doesn't stay up
- 7:12when it's wet.
- 7:14So, let's see. Yeah, it slides a little
- 7:16bit.
- 7:21Might have to find that sweet spot, but
- 7:23yeah, when this when the shaft is wet,
- 7:25it doesn't want to lock all the way.
- 7:27All right, looks like we're locked now.
- 7:29Then you you untwist
- 7:32the uh the the drive lock. You push up
- 7:35and you're up. Now, as far as deploying
- 7:38again,
- 7:40you
- 7:41squeeze these clamps.
- 7:44You drop the drive.
- 7:46You twist the handle.
- 7:49You hit the lever.
- 7:51You re-hit the lever.
- 7:53And then you move the indexer.
- 7:56Now you're good to go. And again,
- 7:59right here you hit the indexer.
- 8:02You hit the lever.
- 8:04It It looks like it doesn't want to
- 8:06stick when the shaft is wet. So, I might
- 8:09have to figure that out.
- 8:11That's user error or not. So,
- 8:14All right. So, it's there. Twist.
- 8:18Up.
- 8:19There you go. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 8:21definitely something that is going to
- 8:22take a little bit more muscle memory and
- 8:25repetition so that you can do it
- 8:26quickly. So, if you plan to use this
- 8:28drive in rivers or somewhere where you
- 8:31fish a lot of shallows and you want to
- 8:33go up and down
- 8:34um quickly and retract and deploy
- 8:36quickly, you're going to have to get
- 8:38used to how this drive works.
- 8:41Again, pros of the drive, incredibly
- 8:43light compared to other drives.
- 8:46And it it does move. I mean, it does
- 8:48move. It goes quickly. It's a little bit
- 8:50louder than than my other drives,
- 8:52but it does move quickly. The reverse is
- 8:54slow. So, there are some pros and cons
- 8:56with it, but I don't I don't hate the
- 8:58drive right off the bat. So, let's drop
- 9:00the drive again and then we're going to
- 9:01test some of the other features of this
- 9:03kayak. All right. Next thing we're going
- 9:04to look at is the rudder. So, I already
- 9:06showed you guys the placement of the
- 9:08rudder. Let's see how wide these turns
- 9:11are with the rudder. So,
- 9:14we're moving. As this is on the side and
- 9:16it's not flat, up is going to be right.
- 9:19Left is going to be
- 9:21down. And I'm not sure if it's different
- 9:23if you put it on your right-hand side,
- 9:25but it is a cool thing. It's
- 9:26ambidextrous. So, if you don't want it
- 9:28on your left-hand side, you want it on
- 9:29your right-hand side, you can do it cuz
- 9:30you got a rail here, too. You know, on
- 9:32this rail you can even put a couple
- 9:33other if you want. Anyways, not to get
- 9:34distracted. All right. So, let's see
- 9:37Let's see
- 9:39we're moving
- 9:40slow pace. We're probably like at 2 mph.
- 9:43I mean,
- 9:45it's a regular turning radius. I
- 9:46wouldn't say it's like ultra tight, and
- 9:48I wouldn't say it's ultra wide.
- 9:51Now, let's
- 9:53bust to the right.
- 9:55Yeah, I mean, they're
- 9:58it's regular. I wouldn't I wouldn't say
- 10:00it's it's one way or another. It's It's
- 10:02a turning radius. It's not good. It's
- 10:04not bad. It just is.
- 10:06You know, it is it is responsive. I
- 10:07mean, as soon as I turn, that's a It's a
- 10:09big rudder. That's a good thing. I think
- 10:11that rudder is going to really play
- 10:13uh when you're in choppy water or in
- 10:15some strong current. I think that
- 10:16rudder, because it's so big and it is
- 10:18very rigid, I think it's going to play a
- 10:20little bit
- 10:22uh better
- 10:23in that scenario.
- 10:25Uh cuz you're not going to get a lot of
- 10:26flex to it. All right, so enough about
- 10:28the rudder. I think I think we got it.
- 10:31The rudder The rudder's pretty good.
- 10:32It's responsive.
- 10:34I like that it's removable easily if you
- 10:36want to add your motor on there. So,
- 10:38we're going to throw a Newport uh NK180
- 10:41Pro back there
- 10:42uh at some point. And I like that I
- 10:44could just take it and take off the
- 10:46rudder, take off the steering cable, and
- 10:49the rudder control, and then hook up the
- 10:50foot steering that's already included to
- 10:53the Newport. So, we're going to do that
- 10:54at some point. Not today,
- 10:56but I like that option. So, just quick
- 10:58and easy. Pop pop pop if you want to
- 11:00change things up. All right, so let's
- 11:02test one of the most important and
- 11:03critical things for a kayak, and that's
- 11:05the stability. But, before we do that,
- 11:06if you guys are looking to get away for
- 11:08a couple days and fish with your
- 11:09buddies, you need to check out the Kayak
- 11:11Fishing Dads Retreat this November on
- 11:13Santee Cooper. It's a guys trip, meant
- 11:15to connect men with other anglers, with
- 11:17nature, and just have a good time
- 11:19fishing low pressure. It's not a
- 11:20tournament. We're going to have
- 11:22giveaways, raffles, seminars, creators,
- 11:25tournament anglers, all sorts of fun
- 11:27things to do. I'll put the link down
- 11:29below to kfdretreat.com.
- 11:31It's this November, and the price
- 11:33includes your lodging and your dinners
- 11:36and all the fun and the giveaways and
- 11:37the raffles and all that stuff. All
- 11:39right, so let's talk about stability. I
- 11:41already told you guys as soon as I
- 11:42launched, as far as sitting goes, this
- 11:44feels super stable. Again, you're
- 11:46sitting high up and anytime you're
- 11:47sitting high up, your center of gravity
- 11:49is higher and there's a potential to
- 11:51feel a little bit more tippy, to
- 11:52actually be a little bit less on the
- 11:54primary stability. But, I'm telling you
- 11:56right now, this is a 35-in wide kayak,
- 11:58more narrow than any of my other current
- 12:01kayaks. It does feel really stable when
- 12:04I'm sitting. I don't feel
- 12:06like like I'm wobbly
- 12:08um or anything like that. Again, this is
- 12:09not rough waters at all, but it feels
- 12:12really stable when you're sitting, when
- 12:14you're adjusting yourself, when you're
- 12:16moving. I don't feel like I'm going to
- 12:17tip over or anything like that. If you
- 12:19are just starting out kayak fishing, of
- 12:20course, it might feel a little bit
- 12:22different. Uh but also something to
- 12:23consider, too, is that you have to keep
- 12:25your center of gravity all aligned cuz
- 12:27if you throw your shoulders off balance,
- 12:29you can easily when you go to grab
- 12:30something like this,
- 12:32uh you can easily tip over when you turn
- 12:34around and it's probably going to be Oh.
- 12:37All right, these little buckles are
- 12:40maybe not holding up.
- 12:42It's all part of the test, baby. We're
- 12:43testing it all out. We're not We're not
- 12:45hiding anything. All right, so we'll
- 12:46look at those buckles in just a bit when
- 12:48we talk about the seat. But, again, you
- 12:50don't want to tip in and it's probably
- 12:52not going to be you tipping the kayak.
- 12:54It might be more so you falling out of
- 12:56the kayak, which is what happens a lot
- 12:58of times. All right, so the sitting
- 12:59stability is good to go. Now, let's
- 13:01stand up and see how it feels on the
- 13:04stand up.
- 13:05I mean, it
- 13:07it feels really stable, guys. I'm not
- 13:10I'm not here lying or selling a false
- 13:12bill of goods. It feels really stable.
- 13:15Again, 35-in platform,
- 13:17you know, you got I mean, the primary
- 13:20and the secondary stability
- 13:22is is really good
- 13:25on this kayak. I mean, when I tip it all
- 13:26the way to one side, you see it even the
- 13:29water level doesn't even really come
- 13:30over the top. Of course, if you step on
- 13:32the gunnels, you can make that water
- 13:33come in, but I mean, really really
- 13:36stable kayak, man. Kaku did a fantastic
- 13:39job with the stability of this thing,
- 13:40man. And being narrower again at 35 in,
- 13:43that makes a big difference and it still
- 13:45does not feel tippy. High up seat, more
- 13:48narrow kayak, and it still feels plenty
- 13:51stable
- 13:52from a standard position. I love to
- 13:54stand and fish, do it quite often. Uh
- 13:57most of the time I'm standing up. I just
- 13:59find it to be more comfortable. So, that
- 14:00is very very important for me. Another
- 14:02factor that's going to change how stable
- 14:04a kayak feels is how much it's loaded
- 14:06up. I have a minimalist setup. Again, I
- 14:08have my North Shore fishing bag, got my
- 14:10lunch bag, some tackle crates. I don't
- 14:12have that much stuff with me. I don't
- 14:13have batteries, I don't have motors, I
- 14:15don't have a big tackle box filled with
- 14:17a bunch of stuff. Once you load up a
- 14:18kayak, it might feel a little bit less
- 14:20stable. It's going to sit a little bit
- 14:21lower in the water. And then those those
- 14:23little turns there might feel a little
- 14:25bit more extreme when you're moving
- 14:27around. So, just keep that in mind, too.
- 14:29That's why there's weight capacities to
- 14:30these kayaks. Now, a next super
- 14:32important factor when it comes to
- 14:33fishing kayaks is storage. Storage is
- 14:36crazy important. Especially fishermen,
- 14:38we tend to bring a lot of stuff with us
- 14:40that we don't need. All right, so
- 14:42storage is cool, but is your storage
- 14:44accessible from the seated position or
- 14:46can you maneuver a little bit to grab
- 14:48it? A big tank well is great, but if you
- 14:50can't reach it from the deck of your
- 14:52kayak, then it doesn't do you a whole
- 14:54lot of good on the water, okay? So, this
- 14:56kayak does have a lot of storage. I
- 14:58mean, you have on the sides, you have
- 15:00your tackle box storage on either side,
- 15:02which I love that cuz right now with
- 15:04this setup, I got two tackle boxes on
- 15:06either side, and then I got to have
- 15:07another tackle box
- 15:09uh in the junk drawer under the seat,
- 15:11okay? So, you have those obviously easy
- 15:14to reach, your cup holder. I bring my
- 15:17own cup holders cuz typically I have the
- 15:18bigger Yeti bottles, uh but you have a
- 15:20cup holder on either side for storage as
- 15:24well. Now, behind you, can you reach
- 15:26that storage behind you? You have a big
- 15:27tank well. All right, I am seated a
- 15:30little bit more closer to the pedal
- 15:32drive. I'm 6-ft tall. All right, so most
- 15:35people are probably in that range or
- 15:37shorter. There's some guys that are a
- 15:38little taller, but if you're under 6-ft
- 15:40tall, you're probably not going to reach
- 15:42the back of your tank well. I mean, I
- 15:44can't even reach it without sliding my
- 15:46seat back or pushing the seat down and
- 15:49being able to reach back there. So, I'm
- 15:51not going to be reaching for stuff back
- 15:53there very often, okay? I can obviously
- 15:55reach my Northshore bag right here. I
- 15:57can reach my lunch box, which is right
- 15:59behind me. So, that's another thing.
- 16:00When you move your seat up, you have
- 16:02this other spot that would be otherwise
- 16:04taken up by your seat for tackle, for
- 16:07battery, for a lunch bag, whatever it
- 16:10is, uh, right back here. So, that's
- 16:13almost like a secondary tank well. I
- 16:15mean, there's a lot of space here to
- 16:17store fishing gear, tackle boxes. You
- 16:20know, I I you see me have my rods right
- 16:22here. I don't even need my crate because
- 16:25I have plenty of rod storage. You have
- 16:27four flush mounted rod holders right
- 16:28here. You also have the rod holders that
- 16:31are horizontal, so you can strap down
- 16:34with the rubber
- 16:37strap right here. Hold them down. Now,
- 16:40because I have this cup holder here,
- 16:42that actually gets in the way of where
- 16:44my rods would lay. So, I probably can't
- 16:48use accessories here if I'm going to be
- 16:50laying down my rods. So, that's
- 16:52something to take into consideration as
- 16:54well. So, I don't have anything here, so
- 16:56I can lay
- 16:57my my rods horizontally here. You have
- 17:00those plastic straps to keep the rod
- 17:01tips down and protected. So, if you want
- 17:04to bring four rods behind you, you can
- 17:06put two rods on either side. That's a
- 17:08total of eight. But again, if you have
- 17:10these accessories here, that might
- 17:12That's probably going to get in your
- 17:13way, and you're not going to be able to
- 17:14lay two rods down easily. Now, as far as
- 17:16the storage up front, you have your
- 17:19sonar pod here. Now, we're not using it
- 17:21for that case, we're using it for
- 17:23storage. I got my keys, my wallet, my
- 17:25Newport uh throttle control for when I
- 17:27throw the Newport on there. I got my
- 17:28fishing bag, some tackle,
- 17:31lippers, things like that. So, this is
- 17:34clearly very easy to reach,
- 17:37easy to buckle down with one hand. I do
- 17:40love the idea of throwing a fish finder
- 17:42on here. So, I think I'm going to be
- 17:43buying the Garmin Striker 4 CV, which is
- 17:45a great little unit, very affordable,
- 17:48plopping it on here, running the
- 17:49batteries and wires in here. And that
- 17:51way, when I get into the truck, I just
- 17:53lift the whole pod out with everything,
- 17:56and I don't have a mess of wires laying
- 17:58around. Now, you do have your front
- 17:59hatch ahead of that. So, reaching this,
- 18:01let's see if we can reach this easily.
- 18:04Open up the latches.
- 18:06Yeah, I mean, you can open this.
- 18:08Uh as far as reaching what's in there,
- 18:10you're probably going to have to get on
- 18:11your knees and push up a little bit um
- 18:13to get in there. So, it's it's
- 18:14accessible. I wouldn't say it's
- 18:16something I want to be grabbing all the
- 18:17time. Maybe that's a good spot to put
- 18:19your drinks or your food that, you know,
- 18:21you might get to one or two times while
- 18:23you're out on the water. Now, if you
- 18:24have your drive in the up position,
- 18:26which I don't right now, you're going to
- 18:28have a little bit of trouble opening
- 18:30this. You're going to have to move it
- 18:31back down to be able to get into this
- 18:33sonar pod. So, just something to keep in
- 18:35mind as well, whenever you have that
- 18:37drive of retracted, then you're not
- 18:39going to as easily get into that pod up
- 18:43front. And of course, you got your
- 18:44storage under your seat. That's very
- 18:46easy to access. I got stuff in here. I
- 18:48got my script for this video. I got uh
- 18:51my terminal tackle, but it's a pretty
- 18:53big junk drawer. You could accommodate a
- 18:55lot of good stuff. All right, and the
- 18:57final thing we're going to be looking at
- 18:58on this kayak is also a really critical
- 19:01important part of any fishing kayak, and
- 19:03that's the seat. All right, I've talked
- 19:04about the seat a little bit. You've seen
- 19:06some things for it. It Like I said, it
- 19:08sits high up. If you want a seat that
- 19:09sits high, makes it a little bit easier
- 19:11to stand up, a little bit more
- 19:13comfortable to stretch out your legs,
- 19:14and this is a seat you want to look at.
- 19:16Originally, I had some concerns about
- 19:18these armrests, okay? Cuz for bigger
- 19:21guys, if you got bigger hips, uh these
- 19:23armrests might be digging into your
- 19:24hips, digging into your thighs, and you
- 19:26don't want that, especially when you're
- 19:27trying to paddle. Uh it's just not very
- 19:29comfortable when you're out there and
- 19:30you got these things these things
- 19:32digging into your into your hips and
- 19:34your thighs. I have not had that issue.
- 19:36I'm a I'm a little bit of a bigger guy,
- 19:38you know, 230 235 lb depending on the
- 19:41day of the week you catch me, but I
- 19:42mean, I have plenty of space. I mean,
- 19:44even even the way I'm sitting right now,
- 19:46I have a couple inches between my thigh
- 19:49and the armrest. Same thing over here.
- 19:52So, again, it all depends on
- 19:54on your size and your comfort level.
- 19:58Um I don't see that as an issue for for
- 20:01myself or for someone that's even a
- 20:03little larger than me. You just have to
- 20:04take that into consideration. You know
- 20:06your limits, but it's not a concern of
- 20:07mine anymore with this armrest digging
- 20:09into your hips and thighs. Something
- 20:11that is a little bit of a concern are
- 20:13these yellow clips. So, again, from the
- 20:15beginning, I thought it looked a little
- 20:17bit cheap. I don't necessarily see them
- 20:21breaking. They don't seem brittle, but
- 20:23you saw earlier, they do they do slide a
- 20:25little bit. So, I'm just going to put a
- 20:26little bit of force back.
- 20:30And this one's moving back a little bit.
- 20:32This one not so much, but here, let me
- 20:33move these let me tighten these up. I am
- 20:35a little bit more reclined than I
- 20:36normally would be
- 20:38cuz you're pedaling, you need to have
- 20:40good force held up on your back cuz
- 20:42you're going to be pushing on it, but
- 20:43right? So, I I tighten them up a little
- 20:44bit.
- 20:45You see,
- 20:47they lean back, and I mean, that's just
- 20:48a couple pushes. I'm not I'm not out
- 20:50here pushing super hard. Uh so, that
- 20:54might be something you want to change.
- 20:56Yeah, you know, they don't they don't
- 20:58hold on great. So, luckily, I mean,
- 21:01these things are cheap to replace. You
- 21:02can find some good ones on Amazon and
- 21:04just probably thread them on there
- 21:06pretty easily. Um that's something that
- 21:09I'll probably have to change out because
- 21:11again, when you're paddling, you don't
- 21:13you don't want this and then eventually
- 21:14you're paddling in this reclined
- 21:16position. That's not very comfortable
- 21:19for anybody. As far as the seat comfort
- 21:20though, I am cheating a little bit. I
- 21:22have my kayak cushion
- 21:24right back here. As you can see, one of
- 21:26the most comfortable cushions around for
- 21:29kayak anglers.
- 21:30Um I did get out with this on the water
- 21:33just to test it out the very first time
- 21:36and I didn't use that. It was It was
- 21:39comfortable without that. However, I'm
- 21:42at the point where no matter how
- 21:44comfortable a kayak seat is, on all my
- 21:46kayaks, I put a kayak cushion down
- 21:48because it just exemplifies and
- 21:51increases the comfort level of any seat.
- 21:54So, if you get one, they're expensive,
- 21:56but they're comfortable, they're weather
- 21:57resistant, they're water resistant, they
- 21:59don't hold on the water like a sponge.
- 22:01Um some people put them on the bottom,
- 22:03some people put them on the bottom and
- 22:04the back. Gives you lumbar support. Uh
- 22:06so, again, without that, I still say the
- 22:09seat is really comfortable. It's
- 22:11breathable. It has like it has the mesh
- 22:13and some of it is actually like kind of
- 22:14sheer where you can see through it, but
- 22:17it is very comfortable as far as the
- 22:19seat and the cushioning itself goes. You
- 22:22probably don't need a cushion if you
- 22:23don't want one. Again, that's something
- 22:25I add by default regardless. And one of
- 22:27my favorite features, I haven't seen
- 22:29this on other kayaks, is just having
- 22:31these rails right here. So, when I get
- 22:33the Newport on here, I already started
- 22:35kind of getting ready for it. I'm going
- 22:36to have the throttle control right here.
- 22:39So, that way I can easily have the
- 22:41throttle real close to me and you can
- 22:43put it up and down. So, if you want it
- 22:44higher, lower, you can put a cup holder
- 22:47there, you can put a rod holder if you
- 22:48want a front facing rod holder, which
- 22:49doesn't come with this kayak. You can
- 22:51place it right there, that way you can
- 22:53put your rod down while you're you know,
- 22:55boarding a fish or changing out your
- 22:57lures or whatever. And then, of course,
- 23:00on the other side, you have your rudder
- 23:01control steering right here. You can
- 23:03also easily change the angle of the
- 23:05seat. Obviously, you got to get up to do
- 23:07it, but you have these four positions
- 23:10right here. So, you really want the seat
- 23:11high up and reclined, almost in a laying
- 23:14down position, you can do that easily. I
- 23:17find that the second from the bottom is
- 23:19the most natural position for me. When
- 23:21I've been pedaling, it doesn't hurt my
- 23:23lower back. It doesn't feel like I have
- 23:25to move it around. So, this this bottom
- 23:27one is almost a little bit too uh low of
- 23:30an angle. So, that that second to that
- 23:32second to last one is more of a 90°.
- 23:35Uh and then I guess a 180°, and then the
- 23:38other ones are a little bit higher than
- 23:40I would like. So, I haven't even tried
- 23:41them, and I probably won't, but you can
- 23:43easily change them when you're on the
- 23:45water. You just got to get up and pop it
- 23:47out and move it real quick. Some other
- 23:48questions that I've had from from
- 23:50viewers and buddies that have seen this
- 23:52kayak, and they wanted to see
- 23:54how the kayak does in certain situations
- 23:57was one, what happens when this pedal
- 23:59drive was to hit an obstacle. Again, if
- 24:01you're fishing in in shallow waters or
- 24:04rivers and things like that, if this
- 24:06were to hit an obstacle,
- 24:08it's probably not the best pedal drive
- 24:09for that. I mean, it's not going to
- 24:10swing up because it's down. Now,
- 24:13obviously, if you have the drive a
- 24:14little bit higher up, um it could swing
- 24:16up. So, from this position, if I were to
- 24:18hit an obstacle, it'll swing up to a
- 24:20degree, but then that prop on the
- 24:22bottom's just going to bump against my
- 24:23hull just like that. So, it'll give it a
- 24:26little bit of leeway, but at the end of
- 24:28it, the hull the hull in the drive is
- 24:30going to take a pretty good uh brunt of
- 24:32the hit
- 24:34with that. Another question was how fast
- 24:36water drains in this kayak. Now, I have
- 24:39the scuppers in here, and I don't have
- 24:41no water coming in to let you guys know
- 24:43how fast it's going to drain, but all
- 24:45the scuppers come
- 24:47uh with this kayak. And I mean, you see
- 24:49right now where that water level is. You
- 24:51have about an inch uh from the water to
- 24:54the top of the kayak. I typically don't
- 24:56have scupper plugs on in my kayak, but
- 24:58since it came already with the kayak,
- 25:00I've just left them in there. But, yeah,
- 25:02so I couldn't tell you for sure how
- 25:04quickly it it drains [snorts] or doesn't
- 25:06drain. I don't have the appropriate
- 25:09weather conditions to do that. But,
- 25:11uh you know, you can always get the
- 25:12one-way plugs, too, if that's something
- 25:14you want to keep the plugs in there. Um
- 25:16but also have it uh bail and drain out,
- 25:18then get those uh one-way plugs. Now,
- 25:21another question I got was on the rails
- 25:22itself, um how the rails are with space,
- 25:25and how they accommodate. Now, I have
- 25:27only a couple things on here. Uh I have
- 25:29my cleat for when I get my Newport on
- 25:31here. I have the ring on here so that I
- 25:34can run the um the the deployment rope
- 25:37for the Newport, and I have my cup
- 25:39holder. One thing I did notice is that
- 25:42the rails are larger than uh the rails
- 25:46on my other kayaks. So, the T-bolts have
- 25:49to sit sideways. So, you can actually
- 25:51drop in uh a T-bolt on its side, and
- 25:54then pop it in. You don't have to run it
- 25:56to the to the opening and all that. But,
- 25:59they have to be sideways in order for
- 26:00them to sit properly. So, you see it's a
- 26:03little bit more of a diagonal versus uh
- 26:06straight on. So, I don't know if I love
- 26:07that or not. I mean, when you tighten
- 26:09it, it's going to go sideways, and it
- 26:11still
- 26:12holds on pretty good. Like, I don't feel
- 26:14like it's going to come off really
- 26:16easily. But, plenty of rail space in the
- 26:18front, plenty of rail space on the back
- 26:21for whatever you guys want to add. But,
- 26:23to answer the question, you don't need a
- 26:24adapters uh to put accessories on these
- 26:27rails. So, let me know what questions
- 26:29you guys have about this kayak, the
- 26:31Outpost PDL 128. We're going to be
- 26:33playing with it all season long, getting
- 26:35it on the water, getting it on the
- 26:36river, and seeing how it does on the
- 26:38river, as well. Let me know what your
- 26:39questions are down below. And if you
- 26:41thought this video was helpful,
- 26:43subscribe to the channel and check out
- 26:44this video right here. So, till next
- 26:46time, guys. Peace and God bless.
- 26:56>> Oh, pickerel.
- 27:08Ah, got a snot rocket, guys. It's not
- 27:10our uh It's not our target species, but
- 27:13we're catching fish, so I'd say the Kajo
- 27:15has passed the fishing test, too.
- 27:18All right, snot rocket.
- 27:21All right, guys. Fish number four?
- 27:24Five? Plus with the pickerel. Listen,
- 27:27the Kajo passes the uh fish test. Even
- 27:29if they're dinks.
- 27:31Dinks need a love, too. And the Kajo
- 27:33catches fish.
- 27:35Bloop.
