Full transcript
- 0:00Kicking off this fierce spec battle between the Tesla Model Y and the XPENG L03, the Tesla
- 0:05clearly commands more road presence by being longer, wider, and taller than its new rival.
- 0:12Stepping inside both 5-seat cabins,
- 0:14they take wildly different approaches to digital ergonomics and passenger comfort.
- 0:20When it comes to mass, the Tesla steps onto the scales a bit lighter at 1,981 kg,
- 0:26giving it a natural edge for efficiency and handling agility.
- 0:31The Model Y absolutely dominates in rear cargo practicality,
- 0:35offering a cavernous 835 L of standard trunk space that completely dwarfs the XPENG.
- 0:42Up front, both EVs feature a handy frunk, but Tesla extends its storage lead with
- 0:47an extra 105 L of hidden underfloor space that the L03 simply doesn't have.
- 0:54For those planning to haul gear, the Tesla secures a slight towing victory
- 0:58by supporting up to 1,600 kg of braked capacity.
- 1:04Fortunately, both SUVs can safely handle a
- 1:0775-kilogram roof load for your bikes or cargo boxes.
- 1:12Inside the digital ecosystem, the XPENG L03 secures a 9.2 out of 10
- 1:17and the overall win by offering highly requested Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,
- 1:21whereas the Model Y scores a 9.0 relying entirely on its snappy native software.
- 1:28Sending power exclusively to the rear wheels,
- 1:30the Model Y packs a significantly stronger punch with 309 PS on tap.
- 1:37That rear-wheel-drive advantage carries over to twisting force,
- 1:40where the Tesla delivers 350 Newton-meters of torque for much stronger pulling power.
- 1:47Despite its lower power figures, the XPENG actually launches from 0-100 km/h faster,
- 1:53completing the sprint in just 6.6 s.
- 1:58However, if you find yourself on the open highway,
- 2:00the Tesla can keep pulling all the way to a higher top speed of 201 km/h.
- 2:07While neither vehicle offers true hands-free autonomous driving,
- 2:10the XPENG L03 takes the win with an 8.2 out of 10 for its robust Bosch advanced
- 2:15driver assistance hardware, narrowly beating out Tesla's vision-only system
- 2:19which requires a subscription for its Level 2 Plus features.
- 2:24While they are neck and neck on paper with the Tesla claiming 525 km of WLTP range,
- 2:30the L03 actually pulls ahead with a much better estimated 420 km of mixed real-world driving.
- 2:39The Tesla ultimately proves to be the more efficient machine,
- 2:42utilizing its heat pump to deliver an excellent official consumption rate of just 13.4 kWh/100 km.
- 2:51XPENG manages that longer real-world range by packing a larger 69.5 kilowatt-hour LFP battery,
- 2:57bringing the added versatility of Vehicle-to-Load bidirectional
- 3:00charging to power external appliances, which the Model Y completely lacks.
- 3:06Both SUVs include 11-kilowatt AC standard charging out of the box, but the XPENG can
- 3:11pull significantly higher DC fast charging speeds up to 236 kW at a rapid public stall.
- 3:19Thanks to that higher peak power, the L03 completes its 10 to 80 percent fast
- 3:24charge in just 20 min, shaving precious time off the Tesla's stop.
- 3:30Safety is a major priority for family haulers, and the Tesla boasts a flawless 5.0 stars out of
- 3:355 from Euro NCAP, while official rating data is not available for the XPENG.
- 3:41Both manufacturers protect your investment with an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer battery warranty,
- 3:47but XPENG offers better peace of mind with a longer 7-year
- 3:50or 160,000-kilometer general vehicle warranty.
- 3:56Looking at the financial damage, the XPENG L03 undercuts its rival with a starting price of
- 4:0138,600 € in DE, whereas the Tesla Model Y demands a slightly heavier 40,970 € in DE,
- 4:0941,990 lbs in the UK, and 44,990 $ in the US.
- 4:18It is an incredibly tight finish, but the XPENG L03 takes the crown with a
- 4:229.1 out of 10, barely edging out the Tesla Model Y's 8.9 out of 10,
