Tampa's First Robotaxi Ride Along — Transcript

1. 0:00So, I'm here in Tampa in one of the
2. 0:01supercharging sites and I was actually
3. 0:03able to get one of the first robo taxis
4. 0:05to come probably 2-minute walk away from
5. 0:08here. So, it's going to arrive in about
6. 0:103 minutes. I'll bring you guys along and
7. 0:12let's check it out. I'm going to go for
8. 0:14I think it's about a 10-minute ride. So,
9. 0:16we'll see how it goes. I'll keep you
10. 0:17posted. So, here it is, guys. I believe
11. 0:20one of the first robo taxis coming in in
12. 0:22Tampa. Here it comes.

16. 0:44It's got the robo taxi decal on it.
17. 0:49We've got the new cameras
18. 0:56coming around. Parked outside of an
19. 0:58Ashley furniture and a floor store.

36. 2:01Looks like there's a there's several
37. 2:03Model Y's around here, but some of these
38. 2:05aren't um robo taxis. It's actually near
39. 2:08a supercharger.
40. 2:12Whoa. Oh. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. The car just
41. 2:15pulled out in front of us. So, I'm in
42. 2:16this uh dual capture mode. Let's see how
43. 2:18this goes. Um I ran out of storage on my
44. 2:22phone. So, we are 6 minutes away from
45. 2:24arriving. Um honestly, an extremely
46. 2:27smooth experience. Um I was not
47. 2:30expecting a decaled robo taxi to roll
48. 2:32out like this. Um which tells me that
49. 2:35Tesla's really kind of refined this
50. 2:37process and um decked this thing out. I
51. 2:41mean, some people think that there maybe
52. 2:42someone's sitting there in the car with
53. 2:44you. This one, there is nobody in this
54. 2:46car, and some of these roads I'm afraid
55. 2:48to drive by myself. So, um, this isn't
56. 2:52the easiest area to be driving in. Um,
57. 2:55just out of somebody that lives in the
58. 2:57area. Um, so I'm honestly impressed that
59. 2:59they started off here. Like I said, I
60. 3:01got picked up near the Superchargers. I
61. 3:03asked it to take me into Tampa, kind of
62. 3:05close to Tampa as it'll get me. um which
63. 3:08is kind of like a food court, food hall
64. 3:10type concept at called Armature Works.
65. 3:12Hopefully, if this is reliable enough,
66. 3:14we'll take a robo taxi back to my car
67. 3:17because um I really I really hope I
68. 3:18don't have to get an Uber cuz this was
69. 3:20only only $7. Um so, we'll keep going.
70. 3:25So, here obviously you can hit pull
71. 3:27over, we can call support, um adjust the
72. 3:30temperature, which I believe is the same
73. 3:33setting as what was in my car. You've
74. 3:35got your app tray.
75. 3:40See, there's like a privacy button.
76. 3:44C cabin camera and microphone not
77. 3:46captured until needed.
78. 3:49Um, climate, twitch, all of those
79. 3:51things. And then obviously music here.
80. 3:54So, but see what I'm saying, guys? Look
81. 3:56at the Look at this.
82. 4:00Like, you got a lot. We're We're going
83. 4:01over a bridge right here.
84. 4:06Um, and I don't know. I obviously I
85. 4:09drove here on FSD. I will say I feel
86. 4:13extremely comfortable on this ride.
87. 4:15Here's downtown Tampa.
88. 4:20But yeah, the road conditions are just
89. 4:22getting getting worse and worse and uh,
90. 4:24Robo Taxi seems to be holding up well.
91. 4:27Look at that turn. Nice. But just the
92. 4:30attention to detail. Obviously, I'm
93. 4:32probably one of the first riders. Um,
94. 4:36but extremely clean car.
95. 4:41So, it looks like we're waiting on a
96. 4:44truck that's backing in.
97. 4:48Can roll our window down. Looks like the
98. 4:51windows limited in the back, which is
99. 4:54interesting. I've never considered that.
100. 4:56Is that Wonder if that's all of the
101. 4:58windows.

103. 5:01at least that one.
104. 5:04I'll do my best to try to call this one
105. 5:06back and uh see if we can ride it again.
106. 5:09What a cool experience. This is This is
107. 5:11very awesome. I mean, I drive FSD almost
108. 5:14every day. Almost 11,000 mi of it, but
109. 5:18it's still a crazy experience to be in a
110. 5:21in a robo taxi here in Tampa. I was I
111. 5:24was expecting them to come, but I did
112. 5:26not expect them to come this quickly.
113. 5:28So, navigating some construction road
114. 5:31work area. Looks like we're going to try
115. 5:32to go go under the bridge here.
116. 5:40Let's see.
117. 5:42Yeah, I'm curious how this does,
118. 5:53but
119. 5:58Now, it does say road closed up here.
120. 6:02So, this is this is interesting. We'll
121. 6:03see. I assume this will be easy for Robo
122. 6:05Taxi, though. Going to take a quick
123. 6:07left.
124. 6:25And let's see exactly where we're going.
125. 6:28Arriving in 1 minute. So, looks like
126. 6:30we're going to land somewhere over here.

130. 6:52this called so I can get back home.

135. 7:04going to drop me off here soon. It's
136. 7:06trying I think it's trying to just find
137. 7:08a spot

139. 7:16Um, I will say like I would say the
140. 7:18difference if you you're used to taking
141. 7:19an Uber um and you're watching wondering
142. 7:22how this is going to work. I have no
143. 7:24idea where it's actually going to drop
144. 7:26me off at. I'm assuming it's going to
145. 7:28look for an easy place, which I would
146. 7:30say up here, these parking spots are
147. 7:32going to be pretty easy.

149. 7:37but I'm really hoping it's not going to
150. 7:39keep fighting itself to to get me in
151. 7:42here.
152. 7:45Oh, wait a second. I got a pull over
153. 7:47button. I I never even considered this.
154. 7:49I mean, it is like an Uber. You can I
155. 7:50can just say pull over. Watch this.

158. 8:00Instantly pulls over.

160. 8:05So, it says vehicle stopped. Exit
161. 8:08vehicle.

165. 8:19taxis in Tampa.
166. 8:27So, as you can see, I'm standing in
167. 8:29front of the robo taxi.
168. 8:34I think it's going to try to take off
169. 8:35right here as soon as I step away from
170. 8:37it. There it goes.
171. 8:40Very cautious though.
172. 8:43And there it goes, guys. One of the
173. 8:45first robo taxis in Tampa.
174. 8:56And kind of as I was expecting,
175. 8:58experiencing high service demand. I've
176. 8:59been here for about a minute. I take
177. 9:01that back, guys. I'm walking back. It
178. 9:04looks like the robo taxi that I don't
179. 9:06I'm going to have to check the check the
180. 9:07plate, but robo taxi is coming right
181. 9:09back to pick me up. It was It's 2
182. 9:11minutes away. I spoke for 30 seconds.
183. 9:14So, we waited a total of like 2 or 3
184. 9:16minutes for the next taxi back. So,
185. 9:19let's check this one out and see where
186. 9:21we make it. It's back for me. See if
187. 9:23it's going to overshoot.
188. 9:31Look at that. This is perfect.
189. 9:35Robo taxi with the Tampa Skyline in the
190. 9:37back.

200. 10:23So, I don't know. Again, I'm going to
201. 10:25have to go back and review the footage.
202. 10:26I don't know if I just keep getting the
203. 10:28same robo taxi, but um like I said, this
204. 10:31one was was quick. Um dropped me off
205. 10:35within 2 3 minutes, got the next one. Um
206. 10:39and honestly, no one has a clue that the
207. 10:42car is driving itself.
208. 10:47It's um super sunny day. I'm not going
209. 10:50to lie. When I drove over here, it was
210. 10:52actually um the weather was looking
211. 10:54pretty bad. And I'm curious on kind of
212. 10:56how Tesla's going to do this when when
213. 10:58it rains. But I guess we'll wait and
214. 11:00see. Off the bat, I think the most
215. 11:02interesting part is just being able to
216. 11:03sit up front. I mean, some Ubers won't
217. 11:05even let you sit up front. Um you can
218. 11:08touch the steering wheel. Obviously, I
219. 11:10don't want to grab it. Some guys are
220. 11:12pretty ballsy on stuff like that. It's
221. 11:14nothing I'm interested in testing out. I
222. 11:16assume it's just gonna not let me do
223. 11:18anything and kick me out of the ride.
224. 11:21So, we'll just leave it at that. But,
225. 11:24um, I mean, look, center console,
226. 11:28safety information for the Model Y,
227. 11:33cup holders, nothing else here. And
228. 11:36yeah, we're just zooming by. Um, I have
229. 11:40never heard anyone say this, but the
230. 11:41window does not go down further than
231. 11:43this. I assume that's to prevent any any
232. 11:46other issues, but yeah, that's kind of
233. 11:49my first initial impression. Got a
234. 11:52Hummer EV we're passing.
235. 11:56And this uh I thought it's interesting.
236. 11:57There's a drawbridge on this route.
237. 12:01Florida's not making it easy.
238. 12:04If any of you guys are in the area, I
239. 12:06highly encourage you to try to get a
240. 12:08ride. Very convenient for me. I started
241. 12:11at 11:45. Found a ride in about 10
242. 12:14minutes. Um I think a lot of it was my
243. 12:16fault cuz I kept moving from different
244. 12:18points. I left the app open. Says high
245. 12:20service demand. And then you wait a
246. 12:22second. You can even I swipe out of the
247. 12:24app, look back, and it's like you can
248. 12:26have a ride, it's like $7. The next ride
249. 12:28was $3. Um, I'll go back and kind of
250. 12:31check all these things, but no, just
251. 12:33super super interesting. Can't believe
252. 12:36it's in my backyard and look forward to
253. 12:39actually practically using this. And I'm
254. 12:41sure a lot of people in these areas use
255. 12:44them practically cuz to be honest with
256. 12:46you, I think an Uber, we'll check, but I
257. 12:49think an Uber would have easily been 20
258. 12:51$20 maybe if not more. So, what an
259. 12:55experience, guys. Tesla launch in Tampa,
260. 12:58in my opinion, from just someone that
261. 13:01drove to the service area and asked for
262. 13:03a ride. I don't have a big YouTube
263. 13:05channel, received almost immediate
264. 13:08service. Fantastic. So, I hate I hate to
265. 13:12brag on him, but guys, this is coming a
266. 13:15lot faster than even I expected. I'm
267. 13:18going to just leave you guys on for the
268. 13:19last bit of my drive. Let's see. Car
269. 13:21passing by. When's the Tesla going to do
270. 13:23it? We got to pass this dump truck. Oh,
271. 13:27easy, easy. Got it. Easy. It's got to
272. 13:30make a turn in 2 minutes, but no
273. 13:32problem.
274. 13:40Hyundai Ionic in front of us.
275. 13:54Yeah, guys, it's just it's super
276. 13:56interesting. The area I'm I've seen some
277. 13:59commentary on the area. The area is
278. 14:01interesting. Um, a lot of homes in the
279. 14:04area. Tampa, I don't find a lot of
280. 14:06people other than apartments live
281. 14:07downtown. There's not a lot of houses
282. 14:09downtown. So, I could see the appeal of
283. 14:12putting this in kind of like right at
284. 14:14the outskirts of Tampa. Um, and I I find
285. 14:18it to be a challenge. Like like if I
286. 14:21were Tesla and I wanted to take it to
287. 14:23the next level, I would definitely put
288. 14:24them in Florida. We're kind of coming up
289. 14:26on a rainy season. It's been raining
290. 14:28nonstop for the last 2 weeks and go into
291. 14:31a difficult area where I don't find the
292. 14:34road conditions to be the best. I don't
293. 14:35find the really the places in general to
294. 14:39be the best. Um, so I definitely find
295. 14:41this to be a good challenge for Tesla.
296. 14:43What's crazy to me is even with the robo
297. 14:46taxi logo, this is extremely discreet. I
298. 14:48had one of the first Model Y's and um
299. 14:51when they came out and I remember just
300. 14:54getting so many looks, but at this point
301. 14:56there's a Cybert truck right in front of
302. 14:57me. There's a Model Y over there. I
303. 14:59mean, like Teslas are so common now.
304. 15:02People look past it, they don't even
305. 15:03really acknowledge it. Kind of like a a
306. 15:06tougher corner.
307. 15:09Again, we got make sure to gather your
308. 15:11belongings.
309. 15:24It's hard to believe it, guys. Super
310. 15:26quick.
311. 15:28I've arrived at my destination. Exit the
312. 15:31vehicle safely
313. 15:35and we are done.
