- 0:05Hey English learners, welcome back to
- 0:08the English Leap Podcast, your cozy
- 0:10place to learn easy English through real
- 0:12life conversations. I'm Anna
- 0:15>> and I'm Jake. Maybe your day has been
- 0:17loud and busy, but right now it's just
- 0:20you, your headphones, and our voices.
- 0:23However you're listening, we're really
- 0:25glad you chose to spend this small piece
- 0:27of time on yourself. Okay, before we
- 0:30start, how are you today, Jake? Not the
- 0:33podcast answer, the real answer.
- 0:36>> Ah, the real answer. H I think I'm a
- 0:40good mix of grateful and tired. Grateful
- 0:43because I love doing this. Tired because
- 0:46my week has been a little bit too full.
- 0:50>> Too many things in your schedule.
- 0:52>> Yeah. work, calls, messages, and somehow
- 0:56I still feel like I didn't do enough. My
- 0:59body is like, "Please slow down." And my
- 1:02brain is like, "No, keep going."
- 1:04>> M, that feeling is so familiar. It's
- 1:07like your body and your mind are not on
- 1:09the same team.
- 1:11>> Exactly. And you, how are you doing
- 1:13today? Really,
- 1:14>> honestly, I feel a bit heavy. Not sad,
- 1:18just heavy. My eyes feel tired. of my
- 1:22shoulders feel tight and there's this
- 1:24little voice saying, "You should have
- 1:26slept earlier, Anna."
- 1:28>> Yeah, that should voice. It's very good
- 1:30at giving comments after everything is
- 1:33finished.
- 1:34>> True. It never comes before. It always
- 1:37comes after with a long report.
- 1:40>> Very critical report.
- 1:42>> And if you're listening and you feel
- 1:44something like this too, tired body,
- 1:46busy mind, a lot of should in your head,
- 1:50you're not alone. We're right there with
- 1:52you.
- 1:52>> And that's actually why we chose today's
- 1:54topic, not to talk about perfect diets
- 1:57or gym routines, but to talk about this
- 2:00quiet fight we have with our own body
- 2:02and how we can make that relationship
- 2:04softer. And we'll talk about it in B1
- 2:07level English. calm, simple sentences.
- 2:10No heavy medical terms, no big
- 2:13psychology words, just things you can
- 2:15really feel and use in your own life
- 2:17when you wake up tired or when you feel
- 2:19guilty for resting,
- 2:21>> right? If you don't understand every
- 2:23single word, that's okay. Really, just
- 2:26relax, listen, and let the ideas sit in
- 2:29your mind. You can always listen again
- 2:31later, maybe on a walk or before you go
- 2:34to sleep.
- 2:34>> And near the end, we'll do a small word
- 2:37tour. We'll take a few useful words from
- 2:39today and explain them slowly with
- 2:41examples so they can stay with you and
- 2:43you can use them in your own sentences.
- 2:46>> And if you enjoy learning English like
- 2:48this, calm, real, a little bit personal,
- 2:52don't forget to like this episode and
- 2:54subscribe to the English Leap podcast.
- 2:57It really helps more learners find us
- 2:58and feel less alone with their tired
- 3:01minds and tired bodies. And later, we'd
- 3:04love to hear from you in the comments.
- 3:06When you feel really, really tired in
- 3:08life, what do you usually do first? Keep
- 3:11pushing, lie down, scroll on your phone,
- 3:14or try to ignore it? And what is one
- 3:16small kind thing you wish you could do
- 3:19for your body?
- 3:20>> All right, take a deep breath,
- 3:22>> let your shoulders drop just a little,
- 3:25>> and let's jump in. So Anna, you said
- 3:28something before we started recording
- 3:30and it really stayed in my mind.
- 3:33>> What did I say? I say many strange
- 3:35things.
- 3:37>> Yeah, that's true. But this one you
- 3:39said, I don't feel ugly. I just feel
- 3:42tired.
- 3:43>> Oh, that one. Yeah.
- 3:45>> Can you tell that story slowly? I think
- 3:48a lot of people will feel it.
- 3:50>> Okay. So, a few months ago, I had one of
- 3:54those mornings. You know the type. Yeah,
- 3:57those mornings
- 3:58>> I slept late again. My phone and I had a
- 4:02very long and very unnecessary
- 4:05relationship until 2 a.m.
- 4:08>> The toxic relationship,
- 4:10>> right? So, I woke up already late,
- 4:13already annoyed at myself. I went to the
- 4:16mirror and I was ready.
- 4:18>> Ready for what?
- 4:19>> Ready to attack myself. You look bad.
- 4:22You look so tired. Why did you eat that
- 4:24last night? You should be more
- 4:26disciplined.
- 4:27>> Yeah, that script.
- 4:29>> But this time, something strange
- 4:31happened. I looked at my face and I
- 4:33didn't feel ugly. I just felt tired.
- 4:38Deep tired. Not I need coffee tired,
- 4:41more like my whole life is heavy tired.
- 4:44>> Like tired in your bones.
- 4:47>> Yeah. And in my mind, the word that came
- 4:49was frazzled.
- 4:51>> Frazzled. Frazzled means tired and
- 4:55stressed and messy altogether. Like your
- 4:57thoughts are little pieces of hair going
- 5:00in every direction.
- 5:01>> Yeah. Like when you wake up and your
- 5:03hair is doing its own experiment.
- 5:06>> Exactly. My brain felt like that. And
- 5:09for a second I stopped blaming my face.
- 5:12>> Oh.
- 5:13>> I looked closer and I thought my body is
- 5:16not the problem. My body is just showing
- 5:19me the story of how I am living. Hm.
- 5:23>> It felt like my body was a small friend
- 5:25standing in front of me saying, "Hey, I
- 5:28am not okay. I am doing my best, but I
- 5:32am tired. Can you please slow down?"
- 5:35>> Right. So, it wasn't an attack. It was a
- 5:39message.
- 5:40>> Yeah. It was like a wakeup call.
- 5:42>> H a wakeup call is a moment that shakes
- 5:45you and says, "Hey, something needs to
- 5:48change."
- 5:49>> Yeah. I realized for years I was angry
- 5:52at the mirror, but the mirror was
- 5:54innocent. It was just reflecting the way
- 5:56I treated myself.
- 5:58>> That's big.
- 6:00>> And maybe if you're listening, you've
- 6:02had that moment, too. You look at your
- 6:04face and think, "I don't hate how I
- 6:07look. I hate how I feel." And you can't
- 6:10even find the right words. You just know
- 6:12this is not how you want to live.
- 6:15>> If that's you, we see you really. And
- 6:18you know what makes it worse?
- 6:20>> What?
- 6:21>> The good girl or good boy mode.
- 6:24>> Oh, that mode.
- 6:26>> Yeah. When your body is screaming,
- 6:28"Please, no more." But your mouth is
- 6:30still saying, "Yes, of course. No
- 6:33problem.
- 6:34>> Sure, I can help. Sure, I can finish
- 6:36that. Sure, I can join that meeting.
- 6:38Sure, I can come to that dinner."
- 6:39>> And inside your body is like a tired
- 6:42employee going, "Excuse me, boss. Can we
- 6:45sit down?"
- 6:46And the brain answers, "No, we have
- 6:49standards.
- 6:50>> We do not sit. We only excel."
- 6:55>> Yeah. And then at night, you lie down
- 6:56and think, "Why am I so tired? I didn't
- 6:59do that much."
- 7:00>> But actually, you did a lot. Not just in
- 7:03your schedule, but in your heart. You
- 7:05carried everyone.
- 7:07>> There's this idiom, carry the weight of
- 7:09the world on your shoulders.
- 7:11>> Carry the weight of the world on your
- 7:14shoulders. It means you feel like you
- 7:16have all the problems, all the
- 7:18responsibilities, everything is on you.
- 7:21>> Yeah. And when you live like that,
- 7:23little by little, you become depleted.
- 7:26>> Depleted. So, not a little tired, but
- 7:29more like empty.
- 7:31>> Exactly. Like your phone on 1% battery
- 7:34and there's no charger near you. That's
- 7:36depleted. When your energy tank is
- 7:39almost zero. And if you're always being
- 7:41the good girl or good boy, saying yes to
- 7:44everything, you don't even notice. You
- 7:46just keep adding.
- 7:48>> Yeah. You pile on more work, more
- 7:51promises, more plans, even when you're
- 7:54already tired.
- 7:55>> Pile on means keep adding more and more
- 7:58on top. Like putting extra bags on
- 8:00someone who is already full. And maybe
- 8:02your body has been trying to talk to you
- 8:04for a long time with headaches or tight
- 8:07shoulders or that heavy feeling in your
- 8:09chest when you wake up,
- 8:11>> but we push it aside.
- 8:13>> Push it aside.
- 8:14>> That means we ignore it. We say, "Not
- 8:17now. I'm busy."
- 8:18>> Right? But your body is actually your
- 8:20first friend. It has been with you from
- 8:23day one and it will be with you to the
- 8:25last day.
- 8:27>> Maybe it doesn't need a stricter boss.
- 8:30It needs a kinder friend.
- 8:32>> So, what do we usually do when we
- 8:34finally see, "Okay, I'm tired. Something
- 8:38is wrong."
- 8:39>> Uh, we make the plan.
- 8:42>> Yes. Big capital letters. The plan
- 8:46>> from Monday. New me. From Monday, I wake
- 8:49up at 5:00 a.m., run 10 kilometers, eat
- 8:52only perfect food, answer every email,
- 8:55meditate, learn three languages, and
- 8:58never feel tired again.
- 9:00>> Also, clear skin, no sugar, no snacks,
- 9:03no fun.
- 9:05>> Exactly. And on paper, it looks amazing.
- 9:09>> But it's not a plan. It's a fantasy.
- 9:13>> Yeah. It's like asking a tired person to
- 9:16suddenly become a superhero in one
- 9:18night.
- 9:19>> And then what happens? Monday morning,
- 9:22real life arrives.
- 9:23>> Work, kids, boss, emails, traffic, mood,
- 9:28hormones, bad Wi-Fi, everything.
- 9:32>> And you oversleep or you eat something
- 9:34outside your perfect planned or you're
- 9:37too tired to exercise
- 9:38>> and suddenly your brain says, "Ah, see,
- 9:41you failed." Same story. You will never
- 9:44change.
- 9:45>> And then you give up until the next
- 9:47Monday.
- 9:48>> It's like you are stuck in a loop.
- 9:51>> Stuck in a loop.
- 9:52>> That idiom means you are repeating the
- 9:55same pattern again and again. Like a
- 9:57song that never moves to the next part.
- 10:00>> Strict plan. One small mistake. Shame.
- 10:03Give up. New strict plan. Repeat.
- 10:06>> And every time you do this, you feel a
- 10:09little more disappointed in yourself.
- 10:12Yeah. You don't just feel tired, you
- 10:14start to feel broken.
- 10:16>> But actually, you're not broken. The
- 10:18plan is broken.
- 10:20>> Yes, the plan is too heavy.
- 10:23>> It's like putting on five big winter
- 10:25coats and then asking, "Why am I so
- 10:27hot?" If you're listening and thinking,
- 10:31"Yep, that's me." Please hear this. You
- 10:34don't need a bigger plan. You probably
- 10:36need a lighter one. Yeah, maybe this is
- 10:39the year you don't push harder, you
- 10:42scale back a little.
- 10:43>> Scale back.
- 10:45>> That means make things smaller, easier,
- 10:47lighter. Not give up, just carry less.
- 10:51>> So you can actually walk, not run
- 10:53yourself into the ground.
- 10:55>> You know what really changed things for
- 10:57me?
- 10:58>> What?
- 10:58>> I realized I was treating my health like
- 11:02a 30-day challenge. But my body is not a
- 11:06challenge. It's a relationship.
- 11:08>> A relationship.
- 11:10>> Think about a good friend. You don't
- 11:12say, "Okay, for 30 days I will be nice
- 11:15to you and after that back to normal."
- 11:18>> 30-day good friend challenge,
- 11:21>> right? You show up again and again. Some
- 11:24days you're full of energy. Some days
- 11:26you're quiet. But you don't disappear
- 11:28just because one day was not perfect.
- 11:31>> That's what a resilient friendship is
- 11:33like.
- 11:34>> Resilient. Resilient means it can have
- 11:38problems but it doesn't break. It can
- 11:40come back.
- 11:41>> And I thought I want that kind of
- 11:43relationship with my body. Resilient,
- 11:46not perfect, not dramatic, just steady
- 11:50and kind.
- 11:51>> But for many of us, our relationship
- 11:53with our body is very lopsided.
- 11:57>> Lopsided.
- 11:58>> Lopsided means not balanced. One side is
- 12:01too much. For example, all work, no
- 12:04rest. All criticism, no kindness.
- 12:07>> Yeah. We expect our body to sit, work,
- 12:11answer, smile, carry, and then we are
- 12:14surprised when it feels weak.
- 12:16>> It's like expecting your phone to work
- 12:18for 3 days with no charger. And when it
- 12:21dies, you say, "Wow, what a lazy phone.
- 12:26>> Poor phone.
- 12:27>> Poor body."
- 12:28>> Maybe health is not, "How can I fix this
- 12:32body?" Maybe it's how can I be more
- 12:35nurturing to this body?
- 12:37>> Nurturing.
- 12:38>> Nurturing means caring in a warm way
- 12:41like watering a plant or hugging a child
- 12:44or making soup for a sick friend.
- 12:47>> And imagine if you used that same energy
- 12:50for yourself.
- 12:51>> Yeah. If you talk to your body like a
- 12:54tired friend, not like a lazy employee.
- 12:57>> You don't have to turn your life into a
- 12:59boot camp. You can turn it into
- 13:01something softer. but still strong.
- 13:04>> And that's what we want to do next. We
- 13:07want to share three small, gentle habits
- 13:10that feel like care, not like
- 13:12punishment.
- 13:13>> Soft rules, not prison rules.
- 13:16>> Yeah, soft rules.
- 13:18>> So, let's walk slowly through those
- 13:20three habits one by one.
- 13:23>> Okay. Habit number one, we call it the
- 13:26plate peace rule.
- 13:29>> Yeah. Because your plate doesn't need a
- 13:31war, it needs peace.
- 13:34>> Right? For many years, my health plan
- 13:38was just attacking my plate. No bread,
- 13:42no rice, no sugar, no fun.
- 13:45>> No joy, just lettuce.
- 13:48>> Yes. And of course, I could do it for
- 13:50maybe two days.
- 13:53>> Mhm. And then pizza.
- 13:56>> Yeah. And then pizza. And then guilt.
- 13:58And then I am the worst.
- 14:00>> So what's different with plate piece?
- 14:03>> With plate piece, we don't start by
- 14:05removing. We start by adding one good
- 14:09thing. Just one.
- 14:11>> Add. Don't attack.
- 14:13>> For example, you have your normal lunch,
- 14:16your normal dinner, and you add a
- 14:19handful of salad or some vegetables or
- 14:22some protein or simply a glass of water.
- 14:25So the question is not what can I cut.
- 14:28The question is what small thing can I
- 14:31add that future me will be happy about.
- 14:34>> Yeah. Future Anna loves when I add
- 14:36something green or something real not
- 14:39from a packet.
- 14:40>> Yeah. Future Jake is very grateful when
- 14:42present Jake doesn't eat chips for
- 14:44dinner.
- 14:46>> And this way it becomes more
- 14:48sustainable.
- 14:49>> Sustainable.
- 14:50>> Sustainable means you can continue it
- 14:53for a long time. It doesn't feel crazy
- 14:56or extreme. It feels normal.
- 14:58>> And that's the goal. Not a perfect week,
- 15:01but a gentler life.
- 15:03>> So maybe tonight you don't change
- 15:05everything. You just ask, "What is one
- 15:08small kind thing I can add to this
- 15:11plate?"
- 15:12>> That's it. That's plate piece. Habit
- 15:15number two is very simple. We call it
- 15:18the water plus walk rule.
- 15:21>> It already sounds friendly. Yeah. It's
- 15:24like a tiny spell. First, drink one
- 15:27glass of water. Then walk for 8 to 10
- 15:31minutes.
- 15:32>> That's it.
- 15:33>> That's it. No 1 hour in the gym. No
- 15:3610,000 steps or you were a failure. Just
- 15:39water and walk.
- 15:41>> I love that. You can walk in your house,
- 15:43in your hallway, in front of your
- 15:45building, or maybe just around your
- 15:47office parking.
- 15:48>> Yeah, the office parking walk of peace.
- 15:52And the interesting thing is it doesn't
- 15:54only help your body, it also helps your
- 15:56mind when it feels messy.
- 15:59>> Yeah. When I feel overloaded,
- 16:01>> overloaded
- 16:02>> overloaded means there is too much in
- 16:05your head, too many tasks, too many
- 16:08thoughts. Like your brain has 27 tabs
- 16:11open.
- 16:13>> Yes. All playing music at the same time.
- 16:16>> Exactly. When I feel like that, a small
- 16:19walk is very soothing for me.
- 16:22>> Soothing.
- 16:23>> Soothing means calming in a soft way,
- 16:26like gentle music, a warm bath, or
- 16:29someone saying, "It's okay. I'm here."
- 16:33>> M I think many listeners need soothing,
- 16:35not more go energy.
- 16:38>> Yeah. So, here's how you can try it.
- 16:41After a meal or after a long work block,
- 16:44tell yourself, "Okay, water plus walk.
- 16:47One glass, 10 minutes."
- 16:49>> You don't need expensive clothes or a
- 16:51perfect route. You can walk slowly. You
- 16:54can even listen to us while you walk.
- 16:56>> Yeah, we can be your walking friends.
- 16:58>> And step by step, your body starts to
- 17:01feel less like a machine and more like a
- 17:03friend you spend time with.
- 17:04>> Not to punish it, but to help it feel
- 17:07alive again.
- 17:09>> Habit number three. This one is very
- 17:12tender for me. We call it the sleep
- 17:14respect rule.
- 17:16>> Yeah, we really need this one
- 17:18>> because sleep is not just nice. It's the
- 17:21time when your body repairs you. Like a
- 17:24secret night team doing quiet work.
- 17:27>> The night repair team,
- 17:29>> right? But we often treat sleep like
- 17:31it's extra, like it's a bonus if we have
- 17:33time.
- 17:33>> Yeah. We act like sleep is a gift, not a
- 17:36basic need.
- 17:37>> So our rule is small. very small. Put
- 17:41your phone away 15 minutes earlier than
- 17:43usual.
- 17:44>> Just 15 minutes.
- 17:46>> Not 1 hour, not a perfect night routine
- 17:49from some influencer. Just 15 minutes.
- 17:52>> And in that 15 minutes, you can do
- 17:55something that helps you feel more
- 17:57anchored.
- 17:58>> Anchored.
- 17:58>> Anchored means feeling steady and safe,
- 18:01like a boat that doesn't move away
- 18:03because there is an anchor holding it.
- 18:05>> Yeah. For me, being anchored before
- 18:07sleep is washing my face slowly, maybe
- 18:10putting cream and breathing like 10 deep
- 18:13breaths.
- 18:14>> For me, it's my grandpa mode.
- 18:17>> Grandpa mode.
- 18:19>> Yeah. Soft t-shirt, dim light, maybe a
- 18:22simple book, no drama, no late night
- 18:24news.
- 18:25>> I love that.
- 18:27>> And when I don't do this, my day just
- 18:29drags on.
- 18:31>> Drags on.
- 18:32>> Drags on means something continues for
- 18:34too long. and feels slow and heavy.
- 18:37>> Yeah, your day doesn't end. It just
- 18:40stretches into the night with Tik Tok
- 18:42and emails.
- 18:43>> So, if you're listening, maybe tonight
- 18:45you can try this. Choose a time and 15
- 18:48minutes before that time your phone goes
- 18:51away. Another room, another side of the
- 18:53room, whatever.
- 18:54>> Then just ask yourself, how can I be a
- 18:57little kind to my body before I sleep?
- 19:00Stretch, breathe, soft music, quiet
- 19:03prayer, anything. That's the sleep
- 19:05respect rule. Not sleep perfectly, just
- 19:08show respect.
- 19:10>> Now, we need to talk about something a
- 19:13little heavier.
- 19:15>> Yeah, the guilt part.
- 19:17>> There were so many nights when I lay in
- 19:19bed completely tired and my mind was
- 19:23still talking. You didn't do enough
- 19:26today. You were lazy. You don't deserve
- 19:30rest.
- 19:30>> M I know that feeling. My body was
- 19:35almost at breaking point.
- 19:37>> Breaking point.
- 19:38>> That means you are very very close to
- 19:41not being able to continue. Like a thin
- 19:44line that is almost breaking.
- 19:47>> Yeah. And instead of giving yourself a
- 19:49hug at that moment, you give yourself a
- 19:52report card.
- 19:53>> Yes. A bad one.
- 19:55>> But here is something we really want you
- 19:57to remember from this episode. Rest is
- 20:00not a reward. Rest is a need.
- 20:04>> Rest is not a reward. Rest is a need.
- 20:08>> You don't have to finish all tasks to
- 20:10deserve to sit down. You don't have to
- 20:13be perfect today to deserve sleep.
- 20:17>> You are not lazy for needing rest. You
- 20:20are alive.
- 20:21>> And sometimes you need to cut yourself
- 20:24some slack.
- 20:25>> Cut yourself some slack.
- 20:27>> That idiom means stop being so hard on
- 20:30yourself. be a little more forgiving.
- 20:32>> Talk to yourself the way you would talk
- 20:34to a friend. You would never say to your
- 20:36friend, "You don't deserve to rest."
- 20:39>> Right? You would say, "Hey, you look
- 20:41tired. Go lie down. I'm proud of you."
- 20:44>> And maybe you need to hear that today.
- 20:47So, let us say it softly for you. You
- 20:51did enough. You can rest. You're allowed
- 20:55to be tired.
- 20:56>> Yeah. You're allowed to be human. Okay,
- 21:00before we go to our little word tour, we
- 21:02want to end this part with one small
- 21:05promise.
- 21:06>> Not a big challenge, just a small soft
- 21:09promise.
- 21:10>> If you can say this with us, today I
- 21:15will do one kind thing for my body.
- 21:19>> Today I will do one kind thing for my
- 21:23body.
- 21:24>> That one kind thing can be very small. a
- 21:28glass of water,
- 21:29>> a 10-minute walk,
- 21:31>> leaving your phone a little earlier,
- 21:34>> eating a simple real meal instead of
- 21:37just snacks,
- 21:38>> or even lying down for 10 minutes
- 21:41without feeling guilty.
- 21:43>> And if tomorrow you forget or you eat
- 21:45junk or you scroll late again,
- 21:48>> you don't need a new punishment.
- 21:50>> Yeah, you just need another small
- 21:53promise.
- 21:54>> You don't need a perfect body. You need
- 21:57a life that feels good
- 21:59>> and a relationship with your body that
- 22:02feels softer.
- 22:03>> All right, let's take a small word tour
- 22:06before we finish. Just a few important
- 22:09words from today.
- 22:10>> Yeah. Walk with us through these words.
- 22:13You don't have to remember everything
- 22:15perfectly. Just feel them. So, the first
- 22:18word is frazzled.
- 22:20>> Yeah. Frazzled means you feel very
- 22:22tired, very stressed, and your mind is a
- 22:25bit messy. It's like your thoughts are
- 22:27sticking out in every direction like
- 22:29crazy morning hair.
- 22:30>> For example, after a long day of
- 22:33meetings and messages, I felt completely
- 22:35frazzled.
- 22:36>> Or when I don't sleep well, my brain
- 22:39feels frazzled and I can't think
- 22:41clearly. Next word, depleted.
- 22:44>> Depleted means your energy is empty.
- 22:47Your battery is not 20% or 10%, it's
- 22:51almost zero. There is nothing left to
- 22:53give.
- 22:54>> For example, by Friday evening, my
- 22:56energy was depleted and I just wanted to
- 22:59lie down.
- 23:00>> Or if you never rest, your body becomes
- 23:03depleted and even small tasks feel very
- 23:05heavy. Another word is nurturing. Yeah,
- 23:09nurturing describes a warm, gentle kind
- 23:11of care that helps someone grow, like
- 23:14watering a plant, making soup for a sick
- 23:17friend, or talking kindly to a child.
- 23:20>> For example, I want to have a more
- 23:22nurturing relationship with my body
- 23:24instead of always criticizing it.
- 23:27>> Or a nurturing teacher makes students
- 23:30feel safe and confident, not scared.
- 23:33>> The next word is lopsided. Yeah,
- 23:36lopsided means not balanced. One side is
- 23:39too big and the other side is too small.
- 23:42Like a seessaw in the park where one
- 23:44person is very heavy and the other
- 23:46person is very light.
- 23:48>> For example, my life felt lopsided. I
- 23:51was working all the time and never
- 23:53resting.
- 23:54>> Or if you only give to others and never
- 23:57take care of yourself, your life becomes
- 23:59lopsided.
- 24:00>> Another word we used is anchored.
- 24:03Anchored means steady and safe, like a
- 24:06boat that doesn't move away because it
- 24:08has an anchor in the ground. You feel
- 24:10stable, not lost.
- 24:12>> For example, a small night routine makes
- 24:15me feel anchored before I sleep.
- 24:18>> Or when I write my plan for the day, I
- 24:20feel more anchored and less confused.
- 24:23>> Another word is autopilot. Autopilot is
- 24:27when you do things without really
- 24:29thinking, just by habit, like a plane
- 24:32that flies by itself. You are moving but
- 24:35not really choosing.
- 24:36>> For example, I was saying yes to
- 24:39everything on autopilot and didn't
- 24:40notice how tired I was.
- 24:42>> Or sometimes we eat on autopilot, not
- 24:46because we are hungry, but because we
- 24:48feel stressed.
- 24:49>> Now, an idiom, carry the weight of the
- 24:53world on your shoulders. This means you
- 24:56feel like you have all the problems and
- 24:58all the responsibility like everything
- 25:01is your job.
- 25:03>> For example, she felt like she was
- 25:05carrying the weight of the world on her
- 25:07shoulders. Work, family, money,
- 25:10everything.
- 25:11>> Or you don't have to carry the weight of
- 25:13the world on your shoulders. It's okay
- 25:15to ask for help.
- 25:17>> Another idiom is run yourself into the
- 25:20ground. Run yourself into the ground
- 25:23means you push yourself so hard that you
- 25:26become extremely tired or even sick. You
- 25:29keep going until your body can't do it
- 25:31anymore.
- 25:33>> For example, he ran himself into the
- 25:35ground by working late every night for
- 25:37months.
- 25:38>> Or if you never rest, you will run
- 25:41yourself into the ground and your body
- 25:43will stop you.
- 25:44>> The next phrase is stuck in a loop. Just
- 25:47stuck in a loop means you repeat the
- 25:50same pattern again and again. Like a
- 25:52song that never moves to the next part.
- 25:55>> For example, I felt stuck in a loop.
- 25:58Strict plan, one mistake, shame, give
- 26:01up, start again.
- 26:03>> Or if every Monday is new start day,
- 26:06maybe you're stuck in a loop, not really
- 26:08changing.
- 26:09>> Another useful phrase is cut yourself
- 26:12some slack. Cut yourself some slack
- 26:14means stop being so hard on yourself.
- 26:17Give yourself more kindness and more
- 26:19space.
- 26:20>> For example, you had a difficult week.
- 26:22You can cut yourself some slack and rest
- 26:24tonight.
- 26:25>> Or instead of calling yourself lazy, cut
- 26:28yourself some slack and remember you're
- 26:30doing your best.
- 26:31>> Now, a phrasal verb, pile on.
- 26:34>> Pile on means keep adding more and more
- 26:37things on top. More work, more tasks,
- 26:40more pressure. For example, even when I
- 26:43was tired, I kept piling on extra
- 26:45projects.
- 26:46>> Or don't pile on more promises when your
- 26:49energy is already low.
- 26:51>> The next phrasal verb is scale back.
- 26:54>> Scale back means make something smaller,
- 26:57lighter, or less. You reduce your plan
- 27:00so it is easier to do.
- 27:02>> For example, I decided to scale back my
- 27:04goals and focus on just three important
- 27:07tasks. or if your routine feels too
- 27:10heavy, you can scale back and keep only
- 27:12the basics.
- 27:14>> Another phrasal verb is push aside.
- 27:17>> Push aside means ignore something or try
- 27:20not to think or feel it. You don't deal
- 27:23with it. You just move it away in your
- 27:25mind.
- 27:26>> For example, I kept pushing aside my
- 27:29tiredness and telling myself to work
- 27:31more. or instead of pushing your
- 27:33feelings aside, you can stop and listen
- 27:36to them for a moment.
- 27:37>> The next one is tune back into.
- 27:41>> Tune back into means start paying
- 27:43attention again to something like your
- 27:45body or your emotions. It's like turning
- 27:48the radio to the right station.
- 27:50>> For example, this year I want to tune
- 27:53back into what my body is trying to tell
- 27:55me. or when you slow down, it's easier
- 27:59to tune back into your real needs.
- 28:01>> And our last phrasal verb is drag on.
- 28:05>> Drag on means something continues for
- 28:08too long and feels slow and heavy. Time
- 28:12feels like it is moving very slowly.
- 28:15>> For example, my day dragged on because I
- 28:18was exhausted and couldn't focus. or
- 28:21when I stay on my phone at night, the
- 28:23evening drags on and I don't sleep
- 28:25enough.
- 28:26>> So, these were some of the words from
- 28:29today. Not just for your English, but
- 28:31also for your life.
- 28:32>> Yeah. And remember, you don't need a
- 28:35perfect body, you just need a softer way
- 28:38to live in the body you already have.
- 28:40>> In the comments, tell us when you feel
- 28:43really, really tired, what do you
- 28:45usually do first? And what is one small
- 28:48kind thing you want to start doing for
- 28:50your body?
