  2. 0:02would not resign from office to which
  3. 0:04you were elected uh but what if in the
  4. 0:07next few months it became evident that
  5. 0:09your party was going to suffer a uh
  6. 0:11disastrous defeat in this year's
  7. 0:12elections would you then reconsider your
  8. 0:15uh resolve on
  9. 0:17this no uh I want my party to succeed
  10. 0:22but more important I want the presidency
  11. 0:24to
  12. 0:25survive and it is vitally important in
  13. 0:29this nation
  14. 0:30that the presidency of the United
  15. 0:33States uh not
  16. 0:36be Hostage to what happens to the
  17. 0:40popularity of a president at one time or
  18. 0:43another the stability of this office the
  19. 0:47ability of the president to continue to
  20. 0:49govern the ability for example of this
  21. 0:52president to continue the great
  22. 0:54initiatives which have led to a more
  23. 0:57peaceful world than we have had for a
  24. 0:59generation
  25. 1:00and to move on the domestic front in the
  26. 1:02many areas that I have described all of
  27. 1:05these things these
  28. 1:07goals are yet before us we have a lot of
  29. 1:10work left to do more than three years
  30. 1:13left to do and I'm going to stay here
  31. 1:15till I get it
  32. 1:17done
