  1. 0:01not
  2. 0:03>> how to fail.
  3. 0:06>> So, this will be
  4. 0:09um
  5. 0:11a way to pass the SWP.
  6. 0:15Not my way. It's the way according to
  7. 0:17the um assessment guide and the teachers
  8. 0:21notes.
  9. 0:24So, first off, going to walk into the
  10. 0:26room. He's going to give you the
  11. 0:28scenario of the appliance you're working
  12. 0:31on
  13. 0:33in association with the switchboard, its
  14. 0:35location. So the switchboard will be
  15. 0:38located another part of the residence in
  16. 0:41front of the house. The appliance will
  17. 0:44be at the back of the house. All right?
  18. 0:47You may have a couple of kids running
  19. 0:49around.
  20. 0:51>> So you have to be safe. All right. First
  21. 0:54thing to do
  22. 0:56JSA.
  23. 0:59>> So, is the workplace safe? Will it
  24. 1:01remain safe? Do glasses need to be worn?
  25. 1:05Completely up to you. You check yes.
  26. 1:08Don't take them off.
  27. 1:10>> Name, date, signature. Job's done.
  28. 1:18>> And then on
  29. 1:22>> I get my danger tags.
  30. 1:27Five.
  31. 1:29>> Come down at the appliance.
  32. 1:35>> Gloves.
  33. 1:44>> I need
  34. 1:47put down there.
  35. 2:02Don't drop them.
  36. 2:06>> I don't like it.
  37. 2:20We will teach you how to do this with
  38. 2:24two padlocks.
  39. 2:26>> According to the assessment rules, you
  40. 2:28only need one. All right. BSV stipulated
  41. 2:32they wanted a lockable isolator,
  42. 2:35>> so why not lock it?
  43. 2:37>> All right. Do your assessment elsewhere.
  44. 2:40They won't have a padlock for the second
  45. 2:43for the
  46. 2:50>> pen screw and stick. I think that should
  47. 2:52be it.
  48. 3:01>> This is the voltmeter you'll use during
  49. 3:03the assessment.
  50. 3:06>> Right. So,
  51. 3:10visual and audio.
  52. 3:14>> So you can hear it buzzing.
  53. 3:16>> I can't
  54. 3:18>> but it is you can hear it in the
  55. 3:21assessment room.
  56. 3:23Probe also comes off the
  57. 3:28banana leads uh for the known source or
  58. 3:33the banana outlets and you plug into
  59. 3:35that and it'll reach the appliance. No
  60. 3:37drama. All right.
  61. 3:39>> And
  62. 3:41when you're testing at the appliance
  63. 3:42terminals,
  64. 3:44both probes,
  65. 3:48>> it'll read as 240 volts.
  66. 3:53>> So, first thing to do is to make sure
  67. 3:56that
  68. 3:57the earth on the known supply is
  69. 4:00actually connected to the earthing
  70. 4:01system. We tell you it's a known supply
  71. 4:03or it's marked as a known supply, but
  72. 4:06how do you know?
  73. 4:11Can you get your gloves
  74. 4:21bit of a test
  75. 4:28roll,
  76. 4:30>> hang on to them, make sure there's no
  77. 4:32air leaking. A lot of people stick them
  78. 4:34up to their ears and what
  79. 4:38as long as there's no air leaking,
  80. 4:40they're fine.
  81. 4:47>> They seem to hold air better if you roll
  82. 4:49them on the side.
  83. 5:00>> Make sure you look at your leather
  84. 5:02gloves.
  85. 5:03Make sure there's no visible rips,
  86. 5:05tears.
  87. 5:11>> Check in between the webbing. Make sure
  88. 5:14there's no orange showing from your
  89. 5:16internal blobs.
  90. 5:30>> Okay. So the gloves are right.
  91. 5:33Ask the assessor, is this a switchboard
  92. 5:36associated with the appliance?
  93. 5:38>> Yes, it is. Is there any essential
  94. 5:41services I need to be aware of or any
  95. 5:44circuits I can't turn off?
  96. 5:47>> No. Okay, fine. Danger tag. It's at the
  97. 5:51front of the residence.
  98. 5:55>> All my danger tags have three things on
  99. 5:58it. name, date, contact number. You want
  100. 6:02to put any more on it, that's fine. As
  101. 6:04long as you got those three.
  102. 6:07>> Next thing to do is to ensure that this
  103. 6:10is connected
  104. 6:12trailing.
  105. 6:32have a work.
  106. 6:42Battery's fine. 3 ohm scale
  107. 6:50I lead.
  108. 7:02I'm reading zero ohms. So I know that's
  109. 7:05connected to the earthing system.
  110. 7:09Make sure
  111. 7:11working fine. It is
  112. 7:16turn it off
  113. 7:18and I've finished with the trailing
  114. 7:21lead. side. Put that away.
  115. 7:34>> Next, you want to make sure that
  116. 7:36>> the appliance frame is not live.
  117. 7:44>> My voltmeter.
  118. 7:52All right, now we're good. And
  119. 7:55>> make sure my meter's working,
  120. 7:58>> which it is
  121. 8:01to the frame.
  122. 8:16Recheck your meter because you got zero
  123. 8:18volts.
  124. 8:23>> I'm reading 24 volts.
  125. 8:27I know my meter's working.
  126. 8:32>> Just going to make sure that the earth
  127. 8:34is actually connected to the appliance
  128. 8:36frame.
  129. 8:46Battery's okay. 3 ohm scale 30 more on
  130. 8:50leads.
  131. 9:00>> No frame.
  132. 9:12There.
  133. 9:18It's below five. Not real good. It's
  134. 9:21below five.
  135. 9:34danger tag on the appliance.
  136. 9:38Been called here because something's
  137. 9:40wrong with the appliance. We don't know
  138. 9:41what
  139. 9:43just working. So now I'm going to check
  140. 9:46make sure that it's got some high
  141. 9:47voltage.
  142. 10:03Check my meter
  143. 10:1224 vol
  144. 10:17active. I've got 24 volts. So, I've got
  145. 10:20supply voltage. If you wanted to, you
  146. 10:23can go to all the others. Make sure that
  147. 10:25you got voltage there.
  148. 10:27>> I'm not going to bother.
  149. 10:30All you have to do is make sure you got
  150. 10:31supply voltage. Don't need to recheck
  151. 10:34your meter cuz you know it's working.
  152. 10:57cover the appliance.
  153. 11:03Tell the assessor that you're about to
  154. 11:06start disconnecting. There may be
  155. 11:08disruption to power supply. Um, will you
  156. 11:12be okay to do so?
  157. 11:22There'll be four
  158. 11:24>> circuits for each point in the
  159. 11:26assessment room.
  160. 11:41>> Okay. Not on the workbench.
  161. 11:45in your bag, your pocket,
  162. 11:48>> bungee cord,
  163. 11:50>> lanyard, anywhere. All right, except
  164. 11:53flying around.
  165. 12:23meter
  166. 12:26>> 24 voling
  167. 12:35two
  168. 12:39>> zero
  169. 12:41neutral
  170. 12:43zero volts.
  171. 12:45Earth
  172. 12:480 volts.
  173. 12:50The earth's considered a a live terminal
  174. 12:53can carry voltage.
  175. 12:57And now we go from the earth
  176. 13:00to the neutral
  177. 13:03>> to active two
  178. 13:08>> to active one.
  179. 13:11>> Active one to active
  180. 13:14two
  181. 13:16active one to neutral
  182. 13:20>> and neutral to active two.
  183. 13:23That's all combinations.
  184. 13:27meter.
  185. 13:30>> My meter's working.
  186. 13:33>> I'm confident that
  187. 13:35>> I've disconnected the right circuit and
  188. 13:37I've got no voltage there.
  189. 13:40Turn off the isolator.
  190. 14:06Lock it off.
  191. 14:12>> My gloves.
  192. 14:21piece of paper. Write down the appliance
  193. 14:23details.
  194. 14:40Boring diagram.
  195. 14:57and
  196. 14:59>> switchboard details.
  197. 15:10So, I've got dual hot water, 3600 watt,
  198. 15:13240 volts. Uh, from the front I got
  199. 15:17black, white, then red, and switchboard
  200. 15:21number one, row two, number four. It's
  201. 15:25all you need.
  202. 15:30>> So, I'll begin to disconnect.
  203. 15:44It's very
  204. 16:11good
  205. 16:42Yeah, I have to do the lock nut up as
  206. 16:46hard as you as you can or anything like
  207. 16:48that. It's just got to be so
  208. 16:50there's no single insulated
  209. 16:54>> cables coming out. And why is that the
  210. 16:56same
  211. 16:57spade loss
  212. 17:11in
  213. 17:26There's a string
  214. 17:45Secure a danger tag to the junction box.
  215. 17:52The junction box out of harm's way.
  216. 18:31Thank you. Stop up.
  217. 18:34appliance
  218. 18:44is going away to be repaired or
  219. 18:46replaced. So
  220. 18:49tag off.
  221. 18:52>> All right.
  222. 18:54>> So tell the assessor that the appliance
  223. 18:56been disconnected and um you can not
  224. 19:00back by the end of the day. fill out a
  225. 19:03uh coe non prescribed
  226. 19:07my details his details
  227. 19:10>> the details of the work that we've done
  228. 19:13today dated sign job's done
  229. 19:18questions
  230. 19:25>> so he will say all right um
  231. 19:29the pl's just been
  232. 19:32with the uh new hottie enclosed filled
  233. 19:36up with water um right to reconnect.
  234. 19:41>> Okay. So asking if anybody's been at the
  235. 19:44switchboard that he knows of
  236. 19:47um and you'll just check your danger
  237. 19:51tags, make sure your your lock still in
  238. 19:54place,
  239. 19:55>> no one's been at the isolator.
  240. 20:00So first thing to do is to ensure that
  241. 20:03the appliance is okay to reinstate to
  242. 20:08supply.
  243. 20:10So
  244. 20:11you're going to check
  245. 20:14insulation resistance
  246. 20:17and earth continuity of the appliance.
  247. 20:56Battery Check battery is fine.
  248. 20:593 ohm scale
  249. 21:02meter
  250. 21:05is good from the earth lug.
  251. 21:08Going to go to a few spots on the
  252. 21:11appliance frame.
  253. 21:14Zero ohms.
  254. 21:18>> Zero ohms. I'm happy that the frame's
  255. 21:21connected to the earth.
  256. 21:261,00
  257. 21:28500 vol
  258. 21:33the earth like I'm going to go to the
  259. 21:36active
  260. 21:37greater than 200 megga ohm active two
  261. 21:41greater than 200 megga ohm neutral
  262. 21:45greater than 200 megga ohm check my
  263. 21:48meter
  264. 21:50meter's working fine so I'm happy that
  265. 21:54The earth continuity is is fine and also
  266. 21:58insulation resistance minimum
  267. 22:00requirement for this appliance is 001
  268. 22:04megga ohm. I'm well above that. So um I
  269. 22:08can continue with the reconnection of
  270. 22:10the appliance.
  271. 22:15Next to do is to ensure that
  272. 22:20>> the
  273. 22:22cables in the junction box haven't been
  274. 22:25tampered with in any way.
  275. 22:29They haven't become live.
  276. 22:32Check your gloves.
  277. 22:59You may not
  278. 23:10When you're checking your gloves, don't
  279. 23:12check them and then put them back on the
  280. 23:14ground.
  281. 23:16>> Soon as you check them, put them on.
  282. 23:43I'm going to get my note out while I'm
  283. 23:45here. I'm going to check the appliance
  284. 23:47details. Make sure it's light for light,
  285. 23:49which it is.
  286. 23:51>> Put it down there so I can see the
  287. 23:53wiring diagram.
  288. 24:0824 vol working from the known earth
  289. 24:14to active one.
  290. 24:17Nothing
  291. 24:19active two.
  292. 24:23Nothing.
  293. 24:24Neutral.
  294. 24:26Nothing
  295. 24:28earth
  296. 24:31>> zero volts. So from the earth
  297. 24:38we go to active two.
  298. 24:42Nothing neutral.
  299. 24:47Nothing. Active one.
  300. 24:50Nothing. Active one to neutral.
  301. 24:54Nothing. Active one to active two.
  302. 24:59vol and active two to neutral
  303. 25:06>> zero vol
  304. 25:1224 voltage
  305. 25:17at the appliance uh cables
  306. 25:23>> so I can rehook them Sorry.
  307. 26:06What?
  308. 26:30Again,
  309. 26:56you don't have to do it up like there's
  310. 26:59no tomorrow.
  311. 27:07Look up your earth
  312. 27:10and you're active as your wiring
  313. 27:12diagram.
  314. 27:44Next thing to do is make sure that your
  315. 27:46earth's actually connected.
  316. 27:52Check your battery.
  317. 27:56in meter
  318. 27:583 ohm scale
  319. 28:05earth
  320. 28:07points on the frame
  321. 28:09about 22
  322. 28:16check
  323. 28:19zero I know the earth's connected
  324. 28:23need that anymore Oh,
  325. 28:42top of the appliance terminals.
  326. 28:58So to the assessor, you're about to
  327. 29:01reconnect supply. They make you
  328. 29:02disruption. I'm asking if it's okay for
  329. 29:05you to do so.
  330. 29:12Remove
  331. 29:20your danger tags, your blocks.
  332. 29:37So
  333. 29:40>> last thing to do
  334. 29:42>> is to ensure that you have supply
  335. 29:46voltage at the appliance terminals.
  336. 29:50So if you've got your gloves off or a
  337. 29:52glove,
  338. 29:54you need to recheck it.
  339. 30:27That's crazy. Check
  340. 30:38your motor.
  341. 30:44>> M's working. So known Earth
  342. 30:52>> to the active got 24 volts. So that's
  343. 30:55okay. So, what I'm going to do now is
  344. 30:57just go from the known from the active,
  345. 31:00sorry, to the neutral.
  346. 31:04>> I got the same voltage
  347. 31:07um returning from my neutral. So, I know
  348. 31:09the neutral is okay.
  349. 31:13Don't need that anymore. Don't need to
  350. 31:15do any more tests.
  351. 31:41The appliance has done.
  352. 31:55Right. So, your
  353. 31:58>> appliance been tested and reconnected.
  354. 32:03>> Um,
  355. 32:05I'll be filling out a
  356. 32:08certificate of electrical safety for the
  357. 32:11works that I've done today.
  358. 32:15That be nonprescribed.
  359. 32:17I'll have my name, your details,
  360. 32:21details of all the work that I've done
  361. 32:23today, signed and dated, and you'll
  362. 32:27receive that within four business days.
  363. 32:32Any questions?
