Surviving 24 Hours On Snake Island With MrBeast — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00- We are now heading
- 0:01towards the most dangerous island on the planet,
- 0:03Snake Island!
- 0:04There are thousands of snakes on this island,
- 0:06some of which are the most venomous on the planet.
- 0:09- Why are we doing this?
- 0:09- I flew all the way here for this?
- 0:11Yep, that's me. And you might be wondering
- 0:13how I ended up traveling
- 0:14on Mr. Beast's boat to this insane place.
- 0:16Snake Island is off the coast of Brazil
- 0:18and home to thousands of Golden Lancehead vipers,
- 0:22one of the deadliest snakes in the world.
- 0:24- I hope we don't die. - I really hope we don't die.
- 0:26There are no hotels, no doctors,
- 0:28and no hospitals if we get bitten.
- 0:30The Brazilian navy patrols the island
- 0:32and for the past hundred years,
- 0:33civilians and tourists
- 0:34have been completely banned from coming here.
- 0:36Snake Island has always been on my bucket list,
- 0:38but I gave up long ago
- 0:40because it's literally impossible to access
- 0:42until I got a call from Mr. Beast.
- 0:45Yo, what's up Jimmy?
- 0:46- [Mr. Beast] Drew, can you fly to Brazil like tomorrow?
- 0:49- Yeah.
- 0:50- [Mr. Beast] Awesome. See you in Brazil.
- 0:51- All right, see you there.
- 0:53Mr. Beast is filming a video
- 0:54in the five deadliest places on earth
- 0:56and Snake Island is number one on his list.
- 0:59Jimmy needs a travel expert last minute
- 1:01and so I'm running to the airport
- 1:02to jump on a 12 hour flight to Sao Paulo.
- 1:04Upon arrival, I meet up with Jimmy's crew
- 1:06and a team of scientists.
- 1:08And together, we're heading straight
- 1:09into one of the most dangerous islands on earth.
- 1:12Beautiful seas out here.
- 1:14(bright upbeat music)
- 1:20How are we feeling?
- 1:21- I'm ready. - Hell yeah, bro.
- 1:23- I'm just hoping we don't get bit by a snake.
- 1:24- I'm worried about the spiders now.
- 1:26They're saying there are spiders.
- 1:27- I heard the spiders will square up with you.
- 1:30- [Team Member] What do you mean square up?
- 1:36- We gotta put these shin guards on
- 1:38to protect from snake bites.
- 1:40Are you really gonna wear those gloves?
- 1:42- Yeah.
- 1:44- Oh yeah. - There we go.
- 1:45Hey, you're safe. You're safe.
- 1:47- All right, we are now rolling out to Snake Island.
- 1:49It is very green.
- 1:51Crazy to think that literally nobody comes here.
- 1:53Like what a thought.
- 1:55Thank you sir. - All right.
- 1:57- [Drew] Do it, man.
- 1:58- I'm not taking these gloves off.
- 1:59- How're you guys feeling? - You know, nervous,
- 2:01I'm trying to fake it.
- 2:02- I think, literally, you're the most nervous of all of us.
- 2:04- Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 2:05I don't like snakes or spiders.
- 2:07Don't forget those two things.
- 2:09- Jimmy's on. - I texted you one.
- 2:10- All right, let's get it going.
- 2:11I wanna see some snakes!
- 2:13(suspenseful music)
- 2:19- Just entered the island.
- 2:21- To comfort you guys,
- 2:22if you do get bit by venomous snake-
- 2:24- Yeah. - We have a helicopter
- 2:25on standby.
- 2:26You'll only be within 90 minutes of dying
- 2:28if a venomous steak bites you.
- 2:29- Barely making it. - I'm actually freaking out.
- 2:31- It's illegal to visit this island
- 2:33unless for research purposes,
- 2:35which is why we have Fausto here.
- 2:36This is my first time stepping in the bushes.
- 2:38- Alright, let's see it. - Oh!
- 2:41- [Drew] We started our hike
- 2:42across the most forbidden island on earth.
- 2:44And did I mention yet
- 2:45that we are planning to sleep here tonight?
- 2:47Every rustle in the grass could be a venomous snake
- 2:49and I just found out their venom is incredibly valuable.
- 2:52It has the potential to create life-saving anti-venom
- 2:55that could help save thousands of people.
- 2:57I'm anxious to see
- 2:58how many snakes we can find in the wild.
- 3:00- How venomous is it? - Yeah.
- 3:01- Yeah? - Yeah.
- 3:02- Good answer.
- 3:03- All right, who's gonna spot the first snake?
- 3:05That's the game.
- 3:06- I'm gonna be honest.
- 3:07I feel like Drew's gonna find the Golden.
- 3:08- I'm a snake expert. - Depends on what
- 3:09you're looking for and I'm not looking for snakes,
- 3:11I'm just looking for safety. - I'm looking at Snake Island.
- 3:12- You fall right here, you're dead.
- 3:13- [Tareeq] Yes. I see that.
- 3:14- This entire island has no animals
- 3:17and just snakes.
- 3:18Humans left this island a hundred years ago
- 3:21and after they left,
- 3:22the snakes basically killed everything
- 3:23and laid claim to the island.
- 3:25- [Drew] Jimmy's right,
- 3:25but the history goes a little bit deeper.
- 3:27You see, Snake Island wasn't always forbidden.
- 3:30In the early 1900s,
- 3:31the Brazilian government built a fancy lighthouse
- 3:33to guide ships along the coast.
- 3:35For years, lighthouse keepers
- 3:36and their families lived on the island
- 3:38until one day a family was killed in their sleep
- 3:41after snakes slithered through the windows at night
- 3:43and bit them to death.
- 3:44Then came the scientists.
- 3:45Attracted by the Golden Lancehead's venom,
- 3:47which helps treat heart disease and cure snake bites.
- 3:50But this species is now critically endangered
- 3:52due to habitat loss and wildlife trafficking.
- 3:54Each snake is worth upwards of $30,000 US dollars.
- 3:58And while poachers risk their lives
- 3:59smuggling them off the island,
- 4:01most know better than to try
- 4:02because in 1985, the Brazilian government
- 4:05completely sealed off the island
- 4:06and to this day, nobody gets access
- 4:08unless you are a scientist.
- 4:10- You know, for an island full of killing machines,
- 4:13this is actually very pretty.
- 4:14- Yeah. - A butterfly.
- 4:14- Very green, near the blue water.
- 4:16How're you feeling?
- 4:17- Dude, this is beautiful.
- 4:19- Now we go into the jungle,
- 4:20- Oh, man.
- 4:22- We are officially entering the jungle.
- 4:24At any point now,
- 4:25a snake could jump from the tree and bite us.
- 4:28- I feel like there's snakes all over these trees.
- 4:30- [Mr. Beast] Even the sticks on this island
- 4:31look like snakes.
- 4:33- We are climbing an elevation.
- 4:34Second guessing the gloves?
- 4:35- Yes. Second guessing this whole trip.
- 4:38- [Mr. Beast] He was like, "I do this every day."
- 4:40- [Tareeq] Something like that.
- 4:40- I usually find people and culture
- 4:42and there's no people and culture here.
- 4:43But now I got Jimmy.
- 4:44He's the people and culture. - I'm your culture.
- 4:46The only deadly thing about this place is the heat.
- 4:48- The fact that nobody gets access to this island
- 4:50is so exciting to me. It's so off limits.
- 4:52- And you would think of how impossible it is to visit.
- 4:55I mean, I don't know why I did that.
- 4:56It literally is impossible. - It's impossible, yeah.
- 4:57- Even honestly,
- 4:58we struggled to get it. - Right.
- 4:59- You would think it'd be more snakes.
- 5:01- Right. We just can't see them.
- 5:03Maybe there are more.
- 5:04We might have to sleep here two nights.
- 5:05And then we come across our first clue.
- 5:08- Is this snake skin or am I tripping?
- 5:09- [Mr. Beast] Dude, that's snake skin.
- 5:10That means there's a snake nearby, guys.
- 5:11- They had shed here. - Hey, don't worry,
- 5:13we're just going through the thickest bushes now.
- 5:15- Yeah, lead the way.
- 5:17(suspenseful music)
- 5:23- I'm looking up man.
- 5:24You all right? - Yeah. I'm just tryna...
- 5:25I'm trying to see when the end is happening.
- 5:27Are we there yet?
- 5:30- [Drew] Out of nowhere, there it is,
- 5:32the legendary lighthouse.
- 5:34I wasn't expecting to find it this fast.
- 5:36- Whoa! Human settlement. Is that a lighthouse?
- 5:40I thought this place was abandoned.
- 5:41- The people from Brazil, it's the Navy.
- 5:44- Oh this is a Navy outpost? - Yeah.
- 5:46- Good news, no one's bit.
- 5:48Bad news is, we've yet to see a snake so.
- 5:50- Good news, we still have like 22 more hours
- 5:52so we will see one.
- 5:53- I hate that you remind me that
- 5:54'cause I'm ready to get off the snake.
- 5:56I'm so ready to get off. - The heat is tough man.
- 6:02Are they scared of our feet? Like the sound?
- 6:04- Yeah.
- 6:05When we have many people in the the same trail,
- 6:08they are scared, you know?
- 6:10- Hey guys, just walk as quietly as you can.
- 6:12- Quietly.
- 6:13(Drew shushing)
- 6:15(suspenseful music)
- 6:18- Bro, bro, bro, bro, bro.
- 6:20Huge ant hill.
- 6:22Ah! Right in my hand, dude.
- 6:24- [Mr. Beast] Careful guys, careful.
- 6:26- Shit. That's the most intense thing we've seen so far.
- 6:30So what actually happens if we don't find snakes?
- 6:33Like do we scrap this idea?
- 6:34- I'd probably put it at the end of the video
- 6:35and just say- - Yeah.
- 6:36- Yeah, the Internet's a lie.
- 6:38I hope we at least find 'em one
- 6:39or my audience is gonna be low key kind of pissed.
- 6:41- I feel them all around me, man.
- 6:42I feel snakes all around me.
- 6:44- Hey, we found a tiny snake.
- 6:45So far we've been attacked by more caterpillars than snakes
- 6:51we still haven't come across any snakes.
- 6:54Honestly, I thought we'd be dodging snakes left and right
- 6:56like what we've seen on the internet.
- 6:58Is the danger on the island over hyped?
- 7:00Or are the snakes just that good at hiding.
- 7:02And then, bam!
- 7:03- Oh, there's one right here!
- 7:04There's one right here, right next to my face!
- 7:05- Where? Where? - Holy!
- 7:07- Where? - Right there, right there.
- 7:09Right there, right there, right there!
- 7:10- Let's go, let's go. Go check it out!
- 7:12Holy (beep)
- 7:13It's literally right...
- 7:14It was right by your head, dude.
- 7:15- Is this a Golden Lancehead? - Yeah.
- 7:17- Nolan! - I walked right by it.
- 7:18- Nolan, we found it.
- 7:20Wait, that's venomous. - Yeah.
- 7:21- So if that bit me, I would die
- 7:24if the helicopter didn't get me
- 7:25to the hospital quick enough.
- 7:26- Yeah.
- 7:27- There's over a hundred different species
- 7:28of these Lanceheads.
- 7:2990% of all snake bites in Brazil
- 7:31are this Lancehead species,
- 7:32which is why the antivenom from this snake alone
- 7:34could potentially save over a thousand lives.
- 7:37- Jimmy's attempting to grab the snake right now.
- 7:39Please be careful man.
- 7:40- [Tareeq] Dude, he's looking right at you.
- 7:41- Where do I grab it? Oh, I see how I lost it.
- 7:44Oh, all right, get that box.
- 7:48- Put me in a box.
- 7:50- Boom. - That's it.
- 7:51- Couple of hundred more lives saved!
- 7:52I'm not gonna lie, this is actually
- 7:53kind of an awesome job.
- 7:54- Hey Jimmy, there's another snake up there.
- 7:56- We're finding 'em all now. They're coming out.
- 7:58I've been to every country in the world,
- 7:59but I've never attempted to catch
- 8:01a venomous snake until now.
- 8:02- He's not lying,
- 8:03he's literally visited 186 countries.
- 8:05- 197. But thank you for making me look less cool.
- 8:07- Drew, are you sure you wanna do this 'cause-
- 8:09- Yeah. - If you mess up,
- 8:10it will fall on you.
- 8:11- You're like a foot taller than me,
- 8:12so you should probably do it but like I would try.
- 8:14Tareeq, Tareeq, gimme your gloves. Gimme your gloves.
- 8:16- You want my gloves? - Yes.
- 8:17- [Tareeq] What am I gonna do without my gloves?
- 8:18- Well, I'm catching the snake,
- 8:19you're not catching the snake.
- 8:20Gimme the gloves. - All right, here you go.
- 8:21You can gimme 'em back, right?
- 8:23- Yeah. - Okay, cool.
- 8:23- I got it, I got it. I got it.
- 8:25It's in my clip. Help, help, help, help, help.
- 8:27- Oh, no! Oh, no!
- 8:28- I got it.
- 8:30- Oh, you got it.
- 8:30- It's literally right there.
- 8:31Hold on. You see it? It's right in front of us.
- 8:36Got the middle of it. Oh!
- 8:37Well, I failed but it was still fun.
- 8:40- Well, if it makes you feel better, Drew,
- 8:41you couldn't have done any worse.
- 8:42- While I'm clearly not the best at grabbing snakes,
- 8:44the scientists were able to help get the job done.
- 8:46They're taking us to microchip each snake
- 8:48to study how they live
- 8:49and track their movements over time.
- 8:51I'm really impressed how capturing their venom
- 8:53can save so many lives.
- 8:54- Unlike the other two snakes in here,
- 8:56we're not using this one for anti-venom,
- 8:58we're actually using it to collect scientific data.
- 9:00Oh my gosh! Wait, you're just holding it?
- 9:01Yeah, he just grabbed it. - Oh bro, be careful please.
- 9:04- Now, we bust out this bad boy to microchip it.
- 9:06All right, what do we do? Does it feel pain?
- 9:10- A little.
- 9:11- Now, if you take this microchip reader,
- 9:13you do this, it'll identify this snake
- 9:16and give you data on it.
- 9:17So we're gonna release this snake
- 9:19and then in 10 years, they're gonna come back,
- 9:20see how it's changed,
- 9:22learn all sorts of things about the snake
- 9:23and use it for science.
- 9:25- How're you feeling man? You enjoying it?
- 9:26- Yeah, I'm having a great time.
- 9:28I'll be honest, I thought there'd be more snakes.
- 9:29We've just seen three, which is good.
- 9:31- Yeah. - Things are heating up.
- 9:32Looks like the boys found another one over there.
- 9:34- [Drew] To really understand
- 9:35what makes this island so unique,
- 9:37I'm about to chat
- 9:38with one of the lead scientists on the island.
- 9:39Feeling good? - Yeah. Here is always good.
- 9:42- Why can nobody come here? Why? Like no tourists here?
- 9:45- Because...
- 9:47You know, here has a legend
- 9:50about the snakes since for that,
- 9:53this place is forbidden.
- 9:55- [Drew] What is your job here on Snake Island?
- 9:56- I'm a scientist, biology scientist.
- 9:59- [Drew] How many years have you been working with snakes?
- 10:01- Mm, 20 years.
- 10:02- Really? - Yes.
- 10:04- [Drew] How many times have you been to the island?
- 10:05- More than 15.
- 10:06- [Drew] When you come to Snake Island,
- 10:08how do you feel?
- 10:09- Happy. Safe. More safe than Sao Paulo.
- 10:12- [Drew] Mm-hmm. Me too.
- 10:14(both laughing)
- 10:15- Yeah, I really love this place.
- 10:18(suspenseful music)
- 10:21- [Drew] Have you ever had snake bite?
- 10:23- No.
- 10:24- Never? - No, never.
- 10:25- What do you look for?
- 10:26Like a little circle on the tree?
- 10:28- Yes. And the tree and the top of the tree.
- 10:30- I can't tell you guys
- 10:31the feeling of being on an island
- 10:33that is impossible to visit. Nobody comes here.
- 10:36I'm really plugged in with all the travelers,
- 10:37people who have been to every country in the world.
- 10:39And the next step is to visit unrecognized countries
- 10:41and places that are off limits.
- 10:42And this is one that nobody can get in.
- 10:45Like, I don't know a single human
- 10:46that has been on this island.
- 10:47So grateful that Mr. Beast invited me out here.
- 10:49The sun's going down and I am feeling exhausted.
- 10:52I haven't slept since I got the last minute call
- 10:54from Jimmy to come out here.
- 10:55And to tell you the truth, I'm a little worried
- 10:57about spending the night on this deserted
- 10:58snake infested island.
- 11:00It's pitch black outside
- 11:01and we are all setting up tents right now
- 11:02to get some rest.
- 11:03- I hate these. I honestly,
- 11:04it's my least favorite part of these videos.
- 11:06- I think this is the floor. I think.
- 11:08- Drew, you know how to build a tent.
- 11:09- I've done it before. - Or is this a hammock?
- 11:12No! - Dude.
- 11:13- [Mr. Beast] That's the tent.
- 11:14- [Tareeq] I'd rather sleep in a tent than a-
- 11:16- You've been traveling for the last like month
- 11:18without stopping. How do you like-
- 11:20- Well, and I'm about to go to Peru after this.
- 11:21And then after Peru,
- 11:23I'm flying to Europe, London, Dubai.
- 11:25- And do you enjoy that? - No, I hate traveling.
- 11:27I was actually just talking to the team.
- 11:28I was like,
- 11:29"Hey, we really need to do less flying
- 11:30'cause it's killing me."
- 11:32Like I'm not working out, my sleep schedule's a mess.
- 11:34Like it's really stressing me out.
- 11:36But I mean, the content's good.
- 11:38- You're doing it for a reason, man so.
- 11:39- Yeah. - You're getting some bangers.
- 11:40- Thank you. - I'm happy to be here, dude.
- 11:42Thanks a lot.
- 11:43- Camp is now set up. Full disclosure,
- 11:45I have no idea if these tents are snake proof.
- 11:47- Oh, thanks Jimmy.
- 11:47- Are you sleeping with these on or off?
- 11:49- I'm keeping these on, bro.
- 11:50I'm putting the gloves on too, bro.
- 11:52- All right, I'm Drew and I'm gonna sleep on an island
- 11:56full of snakes tonight with Mr. Beast.
- 11:58- All right. - Did I do good?
- 11:59- What he said is exactly right. Let's do it.
- 12:01- We're eating dinner.
- 12:02We brought some meals to Snake Island.
- 12:04I'm eating ravioli,
- 12:06actually eating better on this island
- 12:07than sometimes I do at my house.
- 12:09- I dunno where you're getting this appetite, brother.
- 12:11I'm terrified. - It's so good,
- 12:13- [Drew] Bro, this is crazy.
- 12:14You never know where the snakes are in the trees.
- 12:16- See any snakes, Drew?
- 12:18- [Drew] No, but they all hide, bro.
- 12:20- I know. They're impossible to find.
- 12:21- [Tareeq] Dude, can you take it off?
- 12:23- It's gone now. - Oh, what the-
- 12:24- What do you mean it's gone?
- 12:25- Cockroach. - Stop!
- 12:25- I don't- - Stop! It's real.
- 12:28I thought it was a bit, I thought it was a bit.
- 12:29- Stop. Stop! - Please take it off!
- 12:31- [Mr. Beast] Hold on, I'm gonna take it off.
- 12:32That's right here. - Stop!
- 12:34- [Tareeq] Wait a minute! Get it off of me!
- 12:36Get it off.
- 12:37(Tareeq screaming)
- 12:41- Tareeq, when you're sleeping,
- 12:42I hope a snake goes into your tent.
- 12:44- I got this toy snake
- 12:46and I'm gonna throw it at Nolan
- 12:47at some point tomorrow.
- 12:50Little does Nolan know.
- 12:51- I'm gonna be sleeping among the snakes.
- 12:54Little bit scary,
- 12:55but we are the only ones sleeping on this island.
- 12:58Such a cool thought.
- 12:59This is our sleeping situation here in a tent.
- 13:03Cannot open the zipper.
- 13:04Otherwise, we're risking snake bites
- 13:06and the helicopter can't get here at night,
- 13:08so we would literally die.
- 13:13Oh, it's hot.
- 13:17The night passes without any snake bites
- 13:19and by morning we're feeling somewhat rested.
- 13:27(Tareeq grunting)
- 13:29- [Drew] Wait, you slept with those on? Whoa!
- 13:32- Did not take these off. Snake!
- 13:34(Nolan screaming)
- 13:37- Oh my God! - Where did that come from?
- 13:38- It was in my bag the whole time.
- 13:41- Wait, did you think that was real?
- 13:42- I thought that was real. - I thought it was...
- 13:43I saw it on the ground and I thought it was real.
- 13:45- Okay, well,
- 13:46we're not gonna get a better outro than that.
- 13:48- I really wanna make this trip worthwhile for Jimmy,
- 13:50since we didn't find as many snakes as we hoped for.
- 13:52So when we get back to the city,
