Survival Guide to the Biblical Apocalypse — Transcript

4. 0:10gloomy subject that many world religions
5. 0:12have approached
6. 0:13in christianity the last book of the
7. 0:15bible the book of revelation
8. 0:17contains a frightening vision of
9. 0:18cataclysmic events
10. 0:20demonic horsemen and even a few
11. 0:22multi-eyed bible accurate angels for
12. 0:24good measure
13. 0:26this book is without doubt the strangest
14. 0:28and most disturbing book in the whole
15. 0:30bible
16. 0:30so naturally it's a topic i had to cover
17. 0:32on this channel
18. 0:34you may have heard of the book of
19. 0:35revelation but may not be so familiar
20. 0:37with what actually happens in the book
21. 0:38for example where does the number 666
22. 0:41fit into all of it
23. 0:42if you're looking to learn more about
24. 0:44the biblical apocalypse well
25. 0:46you're in the right place i've crafted
26. 0:48together this handy introductory video
27. 0:50you never know when you might need it
28. 0:52before we start it's worth noting that
29. 0:54i'm going to examine the book of
30. 0:55revelation from a secular
31. 0:57non-religious perspective the book is
32. 0:59highly symbolic
33. 1:00and probably not meant to be taken
34. 1:01literally so at occasional moments
35. 1:03throughout the video i'll explain what
36. 1:05some of the symbolism may mean
37. 1:06using the interpretations of biblical
38. 1:08scholars disclaimer out the way
39. 1:10bring on the apocalypse the word
40. 1:14apocalypse itself
41. 1:15comes from the greek and it literally
42. 1:17means to uncover something
43. 1:19that's actually why it's called the book
44. 1:20of revelation it's all to do with
45. 1:22something being revealed
46. 1:24in this case the end of the world
47. 1:26there's a rich history of these
48. 1:27apocalypses in the old testament
49. 1:29but they don't necessarily have anything
50. 1:30to do with the end times sometimes
51. 1:32they're just these
52. 1:33startling visions of the otherworldly
53. 1:35like a glimpse of god's throne in the
54. 1:37book of ezekiel
55. 1:38or a dream featuring four strange beasts
56. 1:40in the book of daniel
57. 1:41the book of revelation is from the
58. 1:43perspective of a guy called john
59. 1:45we don't know much about this character
60. 1:47it's not the same john who baptized
61. 1:48people in the jordan
62. 1:49nor is it the same person who wrote the
63. 1:51fourth gospel no
64. 1:52this is an entirely different john it
65. 1:55turns out that there's a lot of people
66. 1:56called john in the bible
67. 1:58in fact some scholars believe that this
68. 2:00particular john might not have existed
69. 2:02at all
70. 2:03like most books in the bible the book of
71. 2:05revelation was written
72. 2:06and edited by anonymous authors and so
73. 2:08john may have been a pseudonym
74. 2:10scholars say that the oldest part of the
75. 2:12book was probably written around 65 ce
76. 2:15during the reign of emperor nero and may
77. 2:17have reached its final form
78. 2:18at around 95 ce during the reign of
79. 2:21emperor domitian
80. 2:22both of these emperors particularly the
81. 2:24first one emprenero were known for their
82. 2:26brutal persecutions of early christians
83. 2:28a significant detail in order to
84. 2:29understand the worldview behind the book
85. 2:31of revelation
86. 2:32it was written in a frightening time for
87. 2:33these first christians and their
88. 2:35anxieties were captured on the pages
89. 2:37containing a frightening collection of
90. 2:38visions about the end of the world
91. 2:40let's turn to the contents of the vision
92. 2:42itself
93. 2:46we start off in the idyllic greek island
94. 2:48of patmos where our main character jon
95. 2:51has been exiled
96. 2:52behind him he suddenly hears a booming
97. 2:54voice calling his name
98. 2:56he turns around only to see a spectral
99. 2:58figure bathed in bright light
100. 3:00surrounded by seven golden lamp stands
101. 3:03this unnamed person
102. 3:04who some believe to be jesus himself has
103. 3:06a very strange appearance
104. 3:08he is enrobed in white with eyes like
105. 3:10fire and protruding from his mouth is a
106. 3:13sharp
107. 3:14two-edged sword yes this description is
108. 3:17in the text and trust me
109. 3:18it's not the strangest we've yet to see
110. 3:20this strange figure tells jon to write
111. 3:22to the seven churches
112. 3:24dotted across the mediterranean to give
113. 3:26them a heads up about what's about to go
114. 3:27down
115. 3:28once he does so jon is immediately
116. 3:30whisked up into heaven
117. 3:31from there john gives a spectacular
118. 3:33account of everything he sees
119. 3:36in front of him is a giant throne with
120. 3:3824 smaller thrones surrounding it
121. 3:40the central throne is so bright
122. 3:42glistening like many precious stones
123. 3:44that he can't actually make out the
124. 3:45figure sitting on it but we can safely
125. 3:47assume that it's meant to be god himself
126. 3:50but his attention is quickly drawn to
127. 3:52four strange
128. 3:53multi-eyed beasts that are floating
129. 3:55around near the throne
130. 3:56although the bible calls them simply
131. 3:58living creatures you may already be
132. 4:00familiar with them as
133. 4:01bible accurate angels good friends of
134. 4:03the channel at this point
135. 4:05here's a description he gives of them
136. 4:07around the throne
137. 4:08and on each side of the throne are four
138. 4:10living creatures
139. 4:12full of eyes in front and behind the
140. 4:15first living creature is like a lion
141. 4:17the second living creature is like an ox
142. 4:20the third living creature
143. 4:21with a face like a human face and the
144. 4:24fourth living creature
145. 4:25like a flying eagle all four living
146. 4:28creatures
147. 4:28each of them with six wings are full of
148. 4:30eyes all around
149. 4:32and inside day and night without ceasing
150. 4:35they sing
151. 4:42a very strange description indeed a
152. 4:44winged lion
153. 4:46ox humanoid and eagle covered in eyes
154. 4:48from head to toe
155. 4:50and singing praises to god eternally but
156. 4:52this point you may have already watched
157. 4:54my video on bible accurate angels and
158. 4:56you may be familiar with these creatures
159. 4:57in the book of ezekiel in the old
160. 4:59testament
161. 5:00they feature in a magnificent vision the
162. 5:02hebrew prophet gives of god's heavenly
163. 5:04throne
164. 5:05in that video i suggested that they
165. 5:06likely developed from the mesopotamian
166. 5:08cherubim
167. 5:09known as lamasu sadly however there are
168. 5:12none of those wheels with eyes
169. 5:14known as ophenim to be found in this
170. 5:16account
171. 5:17not much else is said about these four
172. 5:19eldritch hybrids other than this
173. 5:21although some have interpreted their
174. 5:23multi eyes as a symbol of god's
175. 5:25all-seeing nature
176. 5:27others see it to be deliberately creepy
177. 5:29now i don't know about you
178. 5:31but i certainly see why they think this
179. 5:34after his description of the four living
180. 5:36creatures
181. 5:36next before jon comes another strange
182. 5:39beast it is described as looking like a
183. 5:41lamb
184. 5:42although it has seven horns and seven
185. 5:44eyes
186. 5:45because of course it does it also looks
187. 5:47like it's been slain
188. 5:48because of this many associate this
189. 5:51being with jesus
190. 5:52who is sometimes called the lamb of god
191. 5:54whatever it is
192. 5:55the lamb creature holds in its hooves a
193. 5:57large scroll with seven wax seals
194. 6:00with this the apocalypse is truly
195. 6:03underway
196. 6:04when the first seal is broken out comes
197. 6:06a man on a white horse
198. 6:07wielding a bow and wearing a crown this
199. 6:10is the embodiment of conquest the first
200. 6:13of the four horsemen of the apocalypse
201. 6:16seal two is broken and out comes a
202. 6:18horseman a strider red horse
203. 6:20holding a large sword this is the
204. 6:22horseman of war
205. 6:24kinda similar to conquest in my opinion
206. 6:26but whatever
207. 6:27cl3 is broken and out comes a rider on a
208. 6:30black horse
209. 6:30holding weighing scales this is the
210. 6:33horseman of
211. 6:34famine finally the fourth seal is broken
212. 6:36and out comes a rider on a pale horse
213. 6:39the embodiment of death itself with four
214. 6:42of the seven seals broken
215. 6:43the lamb creature hands the four
216. 6:45horsemen a quarter of the earth's
217. 6:47population to destroy
218. 6:49either through violence famine
219. 6:51pestilence or death
220. 6:52okay so there are three seals left and
221. 6:55three unpleasant events
222. 6:57left to transpire luckily seal five is a
223. 6:59bit of a dud
224. 7:00nothing really happens other than the
225. 7:02souls of the martyrs are given nice
226. 7:04white robes
227. 7:05and told to wait around a bit for the
228. 7:06final judgment but when seal six is open
229. 7:09things get really nasty for people on
230. 7:11earth no sooner than the seal is broken
231. 7:13and there is a giant earthquake an
232. 7:15earthquake so large that
233. 7:17quote every mountain and island was
234. 7:19removed from its place
235. 7:20if we take this literally this kind of
236. 7:22earthquake would far surpass the
237. 7:24magnitudes of the biggest recorded
238. 7:26earthquakes
239. 7:26like the 1960 valladiva earthquake in
240. 7:28chile that measured
241. 7:309.5 on the richter scale such a large
242. 7:32earthquake would be particularly bad
243. 7:34news for anyone living on tectonic fault
244. 7:36lines
245. 7:37as well as a cataclysmic earthquake the
246. 7:39sixth seal would also make the sky turn
247. 7:41black
248. 7:42were it to happen perpetual darkness
249. 7:44would be devastating for earth
250. 7:46especially for plant life which requires
251. 7:48sunlight to perform photosynthesis
252. 7:50interestingly such events have actually
253. 7:52happened before and are often caused by
254. 7:54major volcanic eruptions
255. 7:56in 536 ce during a period of european
256. 7:59history
257. 7:59aptly known as the dark ages a giant
258. 8:01volcanic eruption believed to be from
259. 8:03indonesia
260. 8:04triggered what is known as a volcanic
261. 8:06winter this is when vast quantities of
262. 8:08volcanic ash
263. 8:09enter the atmosphere dimming the
264. 8:11sunlight and causing rapid cooling
265. 8:13writing from constantinople in 536
266. 8:16byzantine historian procopius wrote that
267. 8:18quote during this year a most dreaded
268. 8:20portent took place
269. 8:22for the sun gave forth its light without
270. 8:24brightness
271. 8:25and it seemed exceedingly like the sun
272. 8:27in eclipse
273. 8:28for the beams it shed were not clear
274. 8:30other contemporary writers as far away
275. 8:32as ireland have attested to the same
276. 8:34extreme weather indicating that this
277. 8:36phenomenon may have been widespread at
278. 8:38the time
279. 8:38and that the earth was indeed in a
280. 8:40volcanic winter if giant earthquakes and
281. 8:42volcanic winters were not enough
282. 8:44the sixth seal also describes how quote
283. 8:47the stars of the sky fell to earth
284. 8:50now if an actual star collided with the
285. 8:53earth then that really began over as
286. 8:55earth would be engulfed into a much
287. 8:56larger ball
288. 8:57of flame and plasma it is more likely
289. 9:00therefore that the author is referring
290. 9:01to a meteor shower
291. 9:03often these are quite harmless earth
292. 9:05orbits through many space rocks every
293. 9:06day
294. 9:07resulting in beautiful shooting stars
295. 9:09things get dangerous however when these
296. 9:11rocks are big enough to not fully burn
297. 9:13up in the atmosphere
298. 9:14one such occasion was the tunguska event
299. 9:16in 1908 where a meteoroid of an
300. 9:18estimated 100 meters
301. 9:20landed in eastern siberia flattening the
302. 9:23surrounding forest of up to 2
303. 9:25100 square kilometers that's 830 square
304. 9:27miles
305. 9:28being in siberia the land was sparsely
306. 9:30populated so only three people were
307. 9:32believed to have been killed had this
308. 9:34landed on a city in 1908
309. 9:36then it would have been truly
310. 9:37catastrophic seal six is pretty brutal
311. 9:40mega earthquakes perpetual darkness and
312. 9:43meteorite impacts
313. 9:44but there is one more seal left the
314. 9:46seventh seal
315. 9:47fortunately just like seal five seal
316. 9:49seven doesn't bring too much calamity
317. 9:51the book simply says
318. 9:52quote there was a silence in heaven for
319. 9:54about half an hour
320. 9:56perhaps the multi-eyed living creatures
321. 9:58from earlier can finally get a break
322. 9:59from singing god's praises
323. 10:05you would have thought that the seven
324. 10:06seals were enough to end earth
325. 10:08more bad things are on the way almost as
326. 10:11soon as the seventh seal is opened
327. 10:13out come seven angels holding seven
328. 10:15trumpets
329. 10:16now you've probably noticed that the
330. 10:17number seven appears quite a bit
331. 10:19in the book of revelation seven golden
332. 10:21lamp stands seven seals
333. 10:23now seven trumpets the number seven is a
334. 10:25significant one throughout the bible
335. 10:27for example in the book of genesis it
336. 10:29reportedly took seven days to create the
337. 10:31universe
338. 10:32in the ancient world this number seven
339. 10:33was often regarded as the number of
340. 10:36completion the idea that the number
341. 10:38seven was a special number
342. 10:39carried on into later christian
343. 10:41tradition where you also get the seven
344. 10:43deadly sins
345. 10:44which by the way is another topic i've
346. 10:46covered on the channel
347. 10:47forget what you've seen about cute
348. 10:49angels with sweet little trumpets
349. 10:51these seven trumpets are about to
350. 10:52destroy the earth
351. 10:54it's about to get dark and in the case
352. 10:55of trumpet fall quite literally
353. 10:57let's quickly rattle off what each
354. 10:58trumpet does trumpet one causes fire and
355. 11:01hail to rain down on the earth
356. 11:03wildfires soon rage on the planet and a
357. 11:06third of earth's vegetation gets burnt
358. 11:08up
359. 11:08trumpet two sounds and a great
360. 11:10mountain-sized object falls into the sea
361. 11:13turning a third of the oceans into blood
362. 11:15it also kills a third of the innocent
363. 11:17sea creatures
364. 11:18which is pretty sad trumpet three plays
365. 11:20and a star
366. 11:21falls from heaven and lands onto the
367. 11:23earth's rivers the star is even given a
368. 11:25name
369. 11:26wormwood this is actually a type of
370. 11:28semi-poisonous herb
371. 11:29also known as mugwort which makes sense
372. 11:31in the book of revelation
373. 11:32because wormwood contaminates all the
374. 11:34world's fresh water supplies
375. 11:36making it bitter and toxic trumpet four
376. 11:39toots and the third of the sun goes out
377. 11:42shrouding the planet in darkness we seem
378. 11:44to have already had this one already
379. 11:46back in the sixth seal this discrepancy
380. 11:48has led some scholars to suggest that a
381. 11:50different author is writing here
382. 11:52perhaps unaware of the previous
383. 11:53destruction wrought by the seven seals
384. 11:56trumpet five in my opinion is the
385. 11:58strangest of them all
386. 12:00an angel descends to earth with a big
387. 12:01key the key opens a large trap tall to a
388. 12:04bottomless pit
389. 12:05and out of the pit comes a thick black
390. 12:07smoke that eclipses whatever sunlight
391. 12:09was left
392. 12:10then out of the dense fumes emerged
393. 12:12giant locusts that swarm and cause
394. 12:14plagues all over the earth
395. 12:16now these aren't just any giant locusts
396. 12:18they are book of revelation giant
397. 12:20locusts
398. 12:20and so they're given a very disturbing
399. 12:22description here goes
400. 12:24they have human faces and long flowing
401. 12:26hair they wear armor and have little
402. 12:28crowns on their head
403. 12:29oh also they have lions teeth and giant
404. 12:31scorpion stingers
405. 12:32because again why not these creatures
406. 12:35are given the instruction to sting
407. 12:37people
408. 12:37but not enough to kill them in fact it
409. 12:40says that people will be unable to die
410. 12:42during this time
411. 12:43no matter how much they might wish to
412. 12:45this is absolute
413. 12:46nightmare fuel but there are still two
414. 12:48trumpets to go trumpet six is sounded
415. 12:50and four angels are released to kill a
416. 12:52third of humankind
417. 12:54all of whom helped to exterminate a
418. 12:56third of human's population
419. 12:58the final trumpet trumpet seven doesn't
420. 13:00cause any destruction
421. 13:02instead there's a little hymn for those
422. 13:04in heaven and a few flashes of lightning
423. 13:06here and there but no major destruction
424. 13:08on earth
425. 13:09at this point i'd imagine that the world
426. 13:11is practically unlivable
427. 13:12i'm starting to think that calling this
428. 13:14video a survival guide
429. 13:15might seem a bit pointless the water has
430. 13:18turned into blood
431. 13:19things are on fire there's no sunlight
432. 13:21anymore and there are giant manticore
433. 13:22looking locusts
434. 13:23stinging people the book of revelation
435. 13:26has really gone to town in painting the
436. 13:28most disastrous picture possible
437. 13:30believe it or not there are still yet
438. 13:31more troubles to come but in the form of
439. 13:34three giant monsters
440. 13:39up first is a giant red dragon with
441. 13:42seven heads
442. 13:43and ten horns so two of the seven heads
443. 13:46have two horns each the ten of the
444. 13:48dragon
445. 13:49is so large that when it sweeps it
446. 13:51apparently casts a third of the stars
447. 13:53down
448. 13:54we find out that the red dragon is satan
449. 13:57himself
450. 13:57who is suddenly attacked and defeated by
451. 13:59the archangel michael
452. 14:01dragon satan gets booted out of heaven
453. 14:03and throws down to earth
454. 14:05and the land swallows him up after this
455. 14:07strange little episode
456. 14:08comes the main attraction the two
457. 14:10so-called beasts
458. 14:13the first beast comes out from the sea
459. 14:15this first beast has the shape of a
460. 14:17leopard
461. 14:17it's got feet like a bear and a mouth
462. 14:19like a lime it's got multiple heads
463. 14:21and no surprises that there are seven of
464. 14:23them like the dragon
465. 14:25it's got 10 horns with a diadem on each
466. 14:27of those horns
467. 14:28one of the heads however looks to be
468. 14:29wounded once coming up from the sea
469. 14:32this beast goes around bad-mouthing god
470. 14:34and saying all kinds of blasphemies the
471. 14:36survivors on earth
472. 14:37and yes apparently there are survivors
473. 14:39all start to worship this monster
474. 14:41then suddenly the earth opens up and
475. 14:44another strange beast
476. 14:45comes out from the ground compared with
477. 14:47the first beast the description is
478. 14:49lacking a bit all we get is that it has
479. 14:51two horns like a lamb but speaks like a
480. 14:53dragon
481. 14:53and that's really it this beast goes
482. 14:55around telling the inhabitants of earth
483. 14:57how great beast number one is and
484. 14:59performs a bunch of magic tricks to
485. 15:01prove it's legit
486. 15:02the character is later known as the
487. 15:04false prophet although you may be
488. 15:06familiar with the name used for it in
489. 15:07other christian texts
490. 15:08the antichrist literally meaning the
491. 15:11anti-messiah
492. 15:12so should you choose to believe in this
493. 15:14monster it's bad news for you
494. 15:16this beast goes around and writes a
495. 15:18specific number on the four heads of
496. 15:20idolatrous
497. 15:21the famous mark of the beast the number
498. 15:24666
499. 15:26what is significant about this number
500. 15:28666
501. 15:29well many biblical scholars have
502. 15:31suggested that it's a code
503. 15:32for the tyrannical emperor nero you see
504. 15:35in the classical world there was this
505. 15:37practice of assigning letters to numbers
506. 15:39it's known as gematria hebrew letters
507. 15:41had this system
508. 15:42too and if you spell out emprenero in
509. 15:44hebrew they add up to the number
510. 15:47six six six some of the oldest versions
511. 15:50of the book of revelation
512. 15:51like this papyrus manuscript found at
513. 15:53oxyrinkus in egypt
514. 15:55have the number 616 gemitrius still
515. 15:58works here just for a different spelling
516. 15:59of nero's name
517. 16:01interestingly the book of revelation
518. 16:03says that in order to buy and sell
519. 16:04things
520. 16:05you need to show the mark of the beast
521. 16:07as with today's currencies
522. 16:09roman coins often featured the head of
523. 16:11the head of state
524. 16:12in this case the emperor so in order to
525. 16:14barter and trade
526. 16:15you need to show the mark of the beast
527. 16:17i.e the emperor nero's face
528. 16:19on coinage this interpretation is
529. 16:21further supported by the greek word for
530. 16:23mark
531. 16:24as in mark of the beast which is haragma
532. 16:27and it's most commonly used to refer to
533. 16:29the imprinting of coins
534. 16:31what's the emperor nero got to do with
535. 16:32the beast well empreniero who ruled from
536. 16:3554
537. 16:36to 68 ce was responsible for a number of
538. 16:39infamous christian persecutions early
539. 16:41christians refused to worship the
540. 16:43emperor
541. 16:43who in the imperial cult was a divine
542. 16:46figure instead they held that their
543. 16:48exclusive belief was in god the god of
544. 16:50israel
545. 16:51this enraged many a roman emperor
546. 16:53especially nero
547. 16:54who attempted to persecute them out of
548. 16:56existence he even blamed the great fire
549. 16:59of rome
550. 16:59on the christians and contemporary
551. 17:01writers wrote harrowing accounts of all
552. 17:03the suffering this emperor inflicted
553. 17:05such as throwing christians to lions as
554. 17:06a result nera especially became a symbol
555. 17:09of evil
556. 17:10so when the book of revelation is
557. 17:12talking about people worshiping the
558. 17:14beast
559. 17:14it refers to the practice of worshiping
560. 17:16the emperor all this is done in code
561. 17:18those who bear the mark 666 in other
562. 17:21words nero will be condemned to suffer
563. 17:23for all eternity
564. 17:28whilst the earth is under the dominion
565. 17:30of these strange beasts slash roman
566. 17:32emperors
567. 17:33up in heaven the angels are preparing
568. 17:35the final phase of destruction
569. 17:37we've had seven seals seven trumpets and
570. 17:40now we've got
571. 17:41seven bowls these bowls are said to be
572. 17:43full of god's wrath
573. 17:45whatever that entails either way the
574. 17:47bowls work in a similar way to the seals
575. 17:50and trumpets
576. 17:50when they're poured onto the earth bad
577. 17:52things happen here we go again
578. 17:54final one this time bowl one is poured
579. 17:56onto the earth and painful swords and
580. 17:58boils form on all the people who wear
581. 18:00the mark of the beast on their forehead
582. 18:02bowl two causes the whole sea now to
583. 18:04turn into blood
584. 18:05no longer just a third of it bowl three
585. 18:08causes all the fresh water
586. 18:09the lakes and the rivers to turn to
587. 18:11blood yep lots of blood in this passage
588. 18:13balfour
589. 18:14causes the sun's heat to intensify
590. 18:16scorching people on earth badly
591. 18:18bowl 5 causes the kingdom of the beast
592. 18:21to go dark
593. 18:22and political instability ensues some
594. 18:25have seen this as a reference to the
595. 18:26fall of the roman empire
596. 18:28bowl six causes the river euphrates
597. 18:30that's in modern day iraq
598. 18:32to dry up later the world's armies all
599. 18:34assemble
600. 18:35and do battle at a place known as
601. 18:36armageddon fun fact
602. 18:38the hebrew word for armageddon is ha
603. 18:40megiddo referring to mount megiddo in
604. 18:43northern israel
605. 18:44over time ha megiddo shifted to
606. 18:46armageddon and because of the book of
607. 18:48revelation
608. 18:48it became another name for the
609. 18:50apocalypse bowl 7 is your classic book
610. 18:53of revelation business
611. 18:54lightning hailstones and a massive
612. 18:56earthquake which destroys the city of
613. 18:58babylon
614. 18:58however where babylon was the great city
615. 19:00of evil in the old testament
616. 19:02by the time of the new testament being
617. 19:04written the city of babylon had long
618. 19:06been deserted
619. 19:06having been conquered by the persians
620. 19:08some 500 years before
621. 19:10so instead many believe that babylon is
622. 19:12a reference to the capital city of the
623. 19:14empire
624. 19:15rome again it's another example of the
625. 19:18book of revelation speaking in code
626. 19:24after a third and final round of
627. 19:26devastation which
628. 19:27seems to me a tad excessive the vision
629. 19:30in the book of revelations begins to
630. 19:31near its end
631. 19:32in fact the whole thing wraps up pretty
632. 19:34quickly without much of a struggle
633. 19:36the first and second beast are captured
634. 19:38by the armies of god
635. 19:40and are kicked into quote a lake of fire

643. 19:56until things pick up again well time
644. 19:58flies
645. 19:591 000 years pass and satan is released
646. 20:02it's now time for the epic final
647. 20:04showdown or biblical proportions
648. 20:06however the serious finale of the bible
649. 20:08is a bit anti-climactic
650. 20:10all that happens is a shoot of fire zips
651. 20:12down from heaven and engulfs the evil
652. 20:14army
653. 20:14satan and all his monsters are cast into
654. 20:17the lake of fire and sulfur to join the
655. 20:18beasts
656. 20:19and his evil influence finally comes to
657. 20:21an end
658. 20:23the book of revelation draws to a close
659. 20:25and we get the bible's happy ending
660. 20:27a vision of something called the new
661. 20:29jerusalem it's a description of a
662. 20:31wondrous new city
663. 20:32made of solid gold our protagonist john
664. 20:35goes to great lengths to describe its
665. 20:37dimensions
666. 20:37and it turns out that the new jerusalem
667. 20:40is one giant
668. 20:41cube its length width and height are 12
669. 20:44000 stadia which is 2 220 kilometers
670. 20:47that's 1
671. 20:48380 miles in this city god jesus
672. 20:52all the do-gooders and all the
673. 20:53multi-eyed creatures live in perpetual
674. 20:55harmony
675. 20:56it is this vision of a strange sci-fi
676. 20:58construction
677. 20:59that the book of revelation closes with
678. 21:02and with it
679. 21:02the entire bible comes to an end
680. 21:07so without a doubt the book of
681. 21:08revelation is the strangest book in the
682. 21:10bible
683. 21:11finishing it off in a maelstrom of fire
684. 21:13earthquakes
685. 21:14eldritch creatures chaos and calamity if
686. 21:17such an event were to take place
687. 21:19it looks to be a pretty unpleasant
688. 21:21affair in such a complex and intricate
689. 21:23book of the bible i haven't managed to
690. 21:25explore everything this strange book has
691. 21:27to offer
692. 21:27just the main story beats if you'd like

709. 21:55attempted to figure out when the
710. 21:56apocalypse will happen
711. 21:58and whether there'll be any warning
712. 21:59signs that hint that is on its way
713. 22:01often as in always they get it
714. 22:04spectacularly wrong
715. 22:05and occasionally embarrass themselves in
716. 22:06the process just like pope sylvester
717. 22:08feared that the year 1000 would mark the
718. 22:10end of the world some worried that the
719. 22:12year 2000 would too
720. 22:14in fear of the y2k where computers would
721. 22:17cease to function
722. 22:18causing a global technological meltdown
723. 22:20more recently
724. 22:212012 was seen as a good year for the
725. 22:23apocalypse misplaced fears about the
726. 22:25mayan calendar
727. 22:26led some to believe that the earth was
728. 22:28on a collision course with the
729. 22:29fictitious planet nibiru
730. 22:31just as the mayan calendar continued the
731. 22:33gregorian calendar continued
732. 22:35and we're still here today to my mind i
733. 22:38doubt that anyone can ever predict when
734. 22:39the end of the world is going to happen
735. 22:41so for now we can relax people have got
736. 22:44it wrong in the past
737. 22:45so let's hope they'll continue to get it
738. 22:46wrong in the future
