0:03and we start off with surah yasin and i
0:05will say the surah yasin isn't just my
0:07favorite surah it is everybody's
0:09favorite surah alhamdulillah and surah
0:11yah seen it goes back to the early
0:13makkan period and the primary theme of
0:16surah yasin throughout the entire surah
0:18beginning to end it is to prove the
0:20hereafter and that allah is indeed the
0:23one who will bring back our souls and
0:26resurrect us and there are a number of
0:27narrations found in our books of hadith
0:30that mentioned that the prophet
0:31sallallahu alaihi pray surah yahsein in
0:33some narrations he called it the kalbal
0:35quran the heart of the quran scholars
0:38differ about the authenticity of those
0:39narrations but there's no problem in
0:41narrating them and saying these are
0:43found in the books of hadith and it is
0:45authentically narrated for sure that our
0:48prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he
0:50instructed us he encouraged us to recite
0:53surah yasin over those who were on their
0:55last on the on the very last throws of
0:58life they're about to pass on from this
0:59world they're on their death beds we
1:01should ease that uh by reciting surah
1:04yasin and of course what a beautiful
1:05surah because the concept of surah yasin
1:08is to talk about the hereafter and the
1:10next life and so surah yahseen is giving
1:12them comfort that this is just the
1:14beginning of insha'allah a brighter life
1:17after this uh the story begins the surah
1:19yasim began story with the power of the
1:22quran and the
1:24the impact that the quran has on the
1:26people and allah subhanahu wa ta'ala uh
1:28mentions that they have put about that
1:31allah has placed a barrier in front of
1:33those who reject the quran and he has
1:35placed a barrier behind them and he has
1:37enshrined them so that they cannot even
1:39see and it is authentically narrated
1:41that our prophet sallallahu alaihi
1:42wasallam when he was surrounded on the
1:45night of the hijrah to medina he exited
1:48his house and there were over 40 50
1:50people wanting to kill him and all he
1:52did he recited surah yasin and he
1:54recited
1:56him said then woman
1:58said then
2:00we blinded them
2:02they will not be able to see he recited
2:05the surah yah sin and the first page of
2:07surah yasin and they were blinded they
2:10had no idea that the prophet sallallahu
2:12alaihi is walking from white under their
2:14midst and in the surah as well verse
2:16number 12 allah says
2:21we shall indeed bring back the dead we
2:23shall revive the dead
2:27and we will write down everything that
2:30they have forwarded and were even going
2:32to write down their footsteps and their
2:34legacies and everything we have tallied
2:36together in a clear book in an imam in a
2:39book that is prescribed and it is
2:41reported that the prophet sallallahu
2:43alaihi sallam used this verse when a
2:45tribe by the name of banu salemma wanted
2:48to sell everything and move to the
2:50center of madinah so that they could
2:52live next to the prophet salallahu salem
2:54they said ya rasulullah we want to pray
2:56every prayer with you and we walk all
2:58the way from our houses an hour away and
3:01we pray and we walk back we decided to
3:03sell everything and come close to you so
3:05that we can be with you short walks and
3:07our prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
3:09said ya bani salam that oh of
3:12the people of the cinema
3:16stay in your houses your footsteps are
3:19being recorded by allah and in one
3:21report he recited this verse or this
3:23verse was revealed basically as the
3:25second time that
3:29we're going to write down every footstep
3:31no matter how small it is that we do
3:33something for the sake of allah don't
3:35look at how insignificant it is whatever
3:38it is one footstep you do for the sake
3:40of allah allah will record it and allah
3:43will reward you for it suryasin then
3:45moves on to the story of the three
3:47people who were sent to a neighboring
3:49town first there were two they rejected
3:51them then allah added a third fa's
3:53and most likely this is a reference to
3:56the early followers of jesus christ of
3:58isa and they were preaching to the
4:00people who did not believe in allah and
4:02so the righteous christians three of
4:04them they went to the town of antioch
4:06and they were rejected and they were
4:07mocked and they were about to be killed
4:10when a local person came rushing and
4:15from the furthest part of the town
4:18and he said
4:21a man came from the furthest part of the
4:23town rushing and he said
4:26he said oh my people
4:28follow the these messengers by
4:30messengers he doesn't mean prophets of
4:32god he means messengers that have been
4:33sent by another prophet meaning isa has
4:36sent them whether alive or dead whether
4:38in the life of isa excuse me or whether
4:40isa was lifted up isa did not die that
4:41was the slip of the tongue but
4:46he sent his followers either in his
4:48lifetime or he told them after he was
4:50raised up to go and preach so isa went
4:53his followers went to the town of
4:54antioch and they're preaching to the
4:56town of antioch and one of the locals
4:59embraces the message and he says that
5:02you should follow these three people and
5:04the locals were about to kill the three
5:06people the three disciples of jesus or
5:08the three followers of christianity and
5:10one of their own seems to have sided
5:13with the followers of jesus so they then
5:16turn their anger on one of their own and
5:18they surround this other person whom
5:20they knew very well a nobleman from
5:21their own town and they say to him have
5:24you embraced this faith and he says
5:30why shouldn't i embrace this faith why
5:32shouldn't i worship the one who created
5:34me and you shall all be going back to
5:37him do you want me to worship false gods
5:39instead of him indeed if the man desires
5:42a harm for me all of these gods will not
5:45help me nor will they save me if i were
5:48to do this
5:51i would be completely lost and misguided
5:55i have believed in your lord your
5:57creator so listen to me obey me
6:02it was said enter jannah there is a
6:04missing scene here it is understood by
6:06the context and that missing incident is
6:08that they killed him they murdered him
6:10the people of antioch were these people
6:12of this town they ganged up on one of
6:14their own and they massacred they killed
6:17this person and they beat him to death
6:20and when they beat him to death
6:22allah says
6:25they will kill him in this world and
6:27because he's a shahid he is
6:28automatically in jannah it was said to
6:30him enter jannah and when he sees jannah
6:33what does he say
6:39how i wish my people could see this how
6:41i wish they could know that my lord has
6:44forgiven me and my lord has shown so
6:46much honor on me
6:48subhanallah this was a man whom the
6:51people killed they ganged upon they beat
6:54him to death according to one report
6:56they literally kicked him and they
6:58punched him until he died and as soon as
7:01he is killed he wakes up in jannah
7:03literally one second he is being killed
7:05the next second he sees jannah and what
7:08is on his mind he says oh how i wish my
7:10very people who killed me how i wish
7:13that i could show them this reality that
7:15i'm speaking the truth to them i'm
7:17telling them the truth and what this
7:19shows as some of the sahabah remarked
7:21that this was a person who truly cared
7:24about his people while alive and then in
7:27death as well that even when they killed
7:30him his heart was still full of
7:31compassion that i want my people to know
7:34the truth and what this shows us if you
7:36want to influence others if you want to
7:39guide others if you want to be a
7:41preacher or caller to islam and to walk
7:43on the footsteps of the prophets of
7:45allah then you must you must have a
7:48genuine compassion a genuine love for
7:52the people that you want to guide you
7:54will not guide people if you have a
7:56sense of arrogance and hatred in your
7:58heart against them and the story of this
8:00man clearly shows that allah then says
8:04he he mentions that even the creation
8:07and the angels they express their pity
8:10and their frustration at the
8:12stubbornness of men verse 30
8:16this is something that the angels and
8:18the creation is saying not allah the
8:20angels and the creation are saying out
8:22woe is it to these servants these
8:25creation this man alas for these
8:26servants these creations that are known
8:28as men no messenger comes to them but
8:31they ridicule him don't they understand
8:32what is their problem why are they so
8:35stubborn about accepting the truth and
8:38about submitting to allah
8:40so the creation is expressing its pity
8:43and its frustration that out of all of
8:46the species on earth it is only man who
8:49is so arrogant as to reject the truth
8:51and they are wondering what is wrong
8:53with us
8:56is a sense of both frustration and pity
8:58like quran what's your what's wrong with
9:00you you know accept the
9:02invitation of the prophets and
9:04messengers and then after this allah
9:12three miracles that shows not only that
9:15he is the rabb but also that he is
9:17capable of bringing the dead back to
9:20life the first of them
9:24a sign for them is in the dead land we
9:26give it life and we produce from it
9:28grains and corn and crops so that they
9:31can eat
9:34him
9:35and that they can eat of the fruits and
9:37they can also eat of what their hands
9:38have helped to produce won't they be
9:41appreciative
9:46glory be to allah who created everything
9:48in pairs the fruits are in pairs and
9:51they themselves are in pairs and even
9:53things that they do not know they're
9:54also in pairs so this is the first sign
9:57the one who can bring the dead land back
9:59to life and the one who can create life
10:01from seeds and the one who can produce
10:03crops and grains that one can also bring
10:05you back from the dead the second
10:10another miracle and sign for them is the
10:12night that we strip it away from the day
10:14the day and the night they go slowly but
10:16surely gradually they merge into one
10:19another
10:22and the sun it runs towards its
10:24destination it has an appointed point
10:27appointed a course that it is following
10:31such as the power and design of the one
10:34who is all-powerful the one who is
10:36almighty and the moon we have disposed
10:39of it in various places
10:42and the manazil is a phrase in arabic
10:44that means every single night the moon
10:47has a special manzil there are around 28
10:49they say
10:50of the moon then one night the moon is
10:52not seen and so 28 manazil are of their
10:54of the moon this is the astronomical
10:56calendar of the moon and allah is saying
10:58i am the one who has put the moon in
11:01these

11:04until when it comes back it returns like
11:06the old twig
11:09and if you've ever seen an old twig from
11:11the tree of the dates you will see that
11:14it looks like a crescent very fragile
11:16very yellowish very thin and so allah is
11:18comparing that when the moon comes back
11:20it looks like this old twig that then
11:23allah says
11:24that neither can the sun overtake the
11:26moon
11:28will the night outpace the day
11:32everyone is in its place in harmonious
11:35orbit this is the second sign the one
11:37who can control these massive celestial
11:40objects that entity can also bring you
11:42back from the dead and the third of his
11:45majestic signs that he asks us to think
11:47about is the fact that we have been
11:48given power over the creation we can do
11:51amazing feats we can ride the waves and
11:54the oceans who could have ever imagined
11:56that us creatures we're going to be able
11:58to conquer the oceans and in our times
11:59even more than this there is no problem
12:02it is a part of our tafsir genre and
12:04tafsir methodology to extrapolate from
12:06these verses the blessings of cars and
12:08airplanes that allah is saying i gave
12:10you this knowledge and i blessed you
12:12with this type of technology that you're
12:14able to benefit and so allah subhanahu
12:17wa is saying that the one who has given
12:19you so much knowledge that you can then
12:20do all of this surely that entity can
12:22also then bring the dead back to life
12:25now what is the response to all of these
12:27miracles allah says verses 44 onwards
12:30that allah says
12:31that no miracle comes to them no sign
12:34comes to them except that they are more
12:36erylene they turn their backs away and
12:38when they're reminded when the people
12:40come and try to advise them
12:42when it is said to them
12:45allah spend from what allah has given
12:47you those who reject they say to those
12:50who believe why should we feed those
12:53whom if allah wanted he could feed
12:55directly you are all lost and misguided
12:58you want us to take care of the poor
13:00people allah created them allah made
13:02them hungry let allah feed them directly
13:04and what a powerful uh
13:07analogy is being given here not a
13:09knowledge and a powerful uh if you like
13:11uh symbolic differences between the
13:13attitudes of those who believe and those
13:16who reject look at the completely
13:18contradictory mentalities the believer
13:21the mu'min the one who wants to worship
13:24allah he sees hungry people and
13:26immediately what comes to his mind allah
13:29has given me more than them let me help
13:32them i want allah to use me to do good i
13:36want to be servicing the creation of
13:38allah with the blessings that allah has
13:40given me i want to be an instrument in
13:43spreading allah's mercy so he looks at
13:45the scene and he says you know what i
13:47want to make a difference and i want to
13:48feed the hungry and he says come let's
13:51all donate let's come together let's
13:53feed the hungry now what do those who
13:55reject religiosity who reject allah
13:58subhanahu wa say they become sarcastic
14:00they become haughty and arrogant and
14:03they say why should i feed i mean your
14:05god is all-powerful your god is the one
14:08that did all of this anyway he can feed
14:10himself and this is the difference
14:12between iman and kufur between
14:15religiosity and atheism a religious
14:17person a person who believes in allah a
14:20person whose heart is full of compassion
14:22he looks and he sees what can i do to
14:24make a difference whereas the one who
14:25has no faith you will find him to be
14:27bitter angry arrogant always mocking oh
14:31well why doesn't your god do it why
14:33doesn't your god take care of it and
14:35this person doesn't understand that
14:36perhaps that hungry person is there so
14:39that allah can see what we do and allah
14:41will reward the hungry person allah will
14:43reward us there's a hereafter that we
14:45have to also take into account but look
14:47at the difference and this is the exact
14:49same difference by the way between adam
14:51and iblees adam and iblees adam said i
14:54made a mistake what can i do to make up
14:56for it iblee said it's all your fault oh
14:58allah you're the one who did all of this
14:59it's not my fault this
15:01difference in mentality it goes back all
15:04the way to the beginning of the creation
15:06dear muslim
15:07when you see something negative think
15:10about how you can make it into a
15:11positive think about what can i do to
15:13better the situation don't blame anyone
15:16else and what not i mean even if people
15:18are worthy of being blamed that has its
15:20place if somebody else is at fault but
15:21you also have a rule what can i do to
15:23make it better and this verse really
15:25shows us the attitude of the movement is
15:27always proactive it's always bringing
15:30benefit wherever the person goes whereas
15:32the person of no faith all they do is
15:34they sit back and criticize and worse
15:36than this
15:38the one who have no faith actually ends
15:40up blaming
15:41allah subhanahu wa
15:43allah azzawajal then reminds them
15:45of what will happen when the day of
15:47judgment uh occurs that
15:49is only just one uh one trumpet blow and
15:53lo and behold they will be brought
15:54before us they shall be resurrected all
15:56we are waiting at verse 52
16:00who has resurrected us from our resting
16:02place our graves we were here what's
16:04going on here then the believers will
16:06say to them
16:10this is the promise of
16:12and the
16:13prophets spoke the truth to us and this
16:16shows us on the day of judgment
16:19people will be cognizant enough aware
16:21enough to ask questions and to have
16:23conversations and so people will be
16:25wondering what is going on where are we
16:27why are we being resurrected what's
16:28going on and the righteous will say that
16:31this is now the time that all of you
16:33denied it is now happening over here and
16:35then in verses 55 onwards allah
16:38describes the people of jannah and the
16:40people of jahannam
16:45the inhabitants of jannah the people of
16:47jannah on that day they shall be
16:50busy in entertainment what an
16:52interesting way
16:55so
16:56is to be uh busy and
16:59is to be basically having a fun time so
17:02allah is saying that jannah there will
17:04be so much to do that you will be busy
17:08entertaining yourselves that you lived a
17:10difficult life you worshipped allah
17:12subhanahu wa
17:13now you will be spoiled for pleasures
17:16anything that you want
17:18them and their spouses
17:22they shall be in shades reclining on
17:24couches
17:26they will have in it all types of fruits
17:28all types to eat
17:30and they will have whatever they desire
17:33whatever you want dear muslims whatever
17:36you want you will get it in jannah a
17:38sahabi said o messenger of allah you
17:40know i like to plant i like to have a
17:43green thumb i like to plant
17:45and i like to have grow trees so will
17:47allah allow me to
17:50grow trees in jannah and the prophet
17:52sallallahu sallam gave a beautiful
17:53description yes indeed you will grow the
17:55tree it will grow this big and this and
17:57that at which one of the muhajiroun said
17:59a messenger of allah that person who
18:01asked you he must be from our own saudi
18:03brethren because us
18:05we do not like to work in the backyard
18:07we don't like to work in the fields at
18:09all so the point is that whatever you
18:11have as your mind some people say why
18:14does jannah describe only certain you
18:16know worldly pleasures and the response
18:18is this is but one example and it is an
18:20example by the way that all of mankind
18:22appreciates and likes the pleasures of
18:24the soul the pleasures of the body
18:26eating and drinking in the sensual
18:28pleasures of course this is a part and
18:29parcel of agenda but it's not all of
18:31jannah jannah is more than this this
18:34verse is very clear
18:37whatever you want shall be yours if you
18:40want to interact or have discussions or
18:43talk or you know whatever you want to do
18:45you will be able to do that in that
18:47place forever and ever without ever
18:49getting bored
18:52they will be busy entertaining
18:54themselves and then the best of all
18:56pleasures the highest of all pleasures
18:58verse 58
19:02they shall hear allah say salaam to them
19:04and then other verses describe the
19:06seeing of allah so hearing the speech of
19:08allah and seeing the face of allah this
19:11is the highest reward of jannah nothing
19:14is higher than that and then allah
19:17describes jahannam before moving on to
19:19the final concluding passages of the
19:21surah by reminding man of a number of
19:24obvious blessings of them verse 71
19:31don't they see that we have gifted them
19:33from what we ourselves have have
19:36brought about livestock that they own
19:39was
19:40that we have subdued it for them so some
19:43of them they write and some of them they
19:45eat
19:47and they have other benefits wamashadip
19:49and they drink from these animals will
19:51they not give thanks and this verse or
19:53this series of verses once again it goes
19:55back to a point i made a number of
19:57lectures ago this is one of the most
19:59explicit verses that not all species are
20:02the same the one who created the species
20:05has the right to provide a hierarchy of
20:08those species and in these series of
20:10verses you cannot get more clear allah
20:13is saying we created these animals and
20:16species these livestock and we
20:24and we subdued these species for them
20:27look these animals are bigger than us
20:30they are heavier than us they are more
20:31powerful than us and yet they are the
20:35unto us and the
20:36means that we have control over them
20:39they have submitted and subdued on
20:41themselves unto us and allah says we're
20:44allowed to ride them we're allowed to
20:46eat them we're allowed to take their
20:47milk their drink this is very clear and
20:50they have other benefits as well in some
20:52places and lands you need to use their
20:54leather to protect yourself from this
20:55and that so allah azzawajal is
20:57explicitly allowing us if again we treat
21:00them ethically and we do everything in
21:02accordance with the name of allah
21:03subhanahu wa'ta'ala then yes it is
21:05permissible to benefit and so allah says
21:09will they not give thanks this is one of
21:11the blessings at the end of the surah
21:13another another miracle another miracle
21:15that allah says
21:17doesn't mankind see that we created him
21:20from a nutfa from a a seed a mixture of
21:23fluids and yet
21:26lo and behold he comes from a despised
21:28fluid and yet he has the arrogance he
21:31has the audacity to challenge us
21:37and he starts arguing with us he
21:40produces his pseudo-evidences against us
21:43even as he forgets his own creation and
21:46he challenges who is going to bring the
21:49dead back after they have decayed this
21:51is a reference to abu jahl or perhaps
21:54umayya
21:55that
21:56a number of uh books mentioned that when
21:58uh once one of these leaders of the
22:01quraish came to the prophet sallallahu
22:02alaihi wasallam umayya bin khalifa for
22:05abu jahl or somebody else he picked up a
22:07bone that was decaying and he crumbled
22:09it in his hands and he wagged this
22:11morning he crumbled and in his hands and
22:13he said that do you think that o
22:15muhammad sasam do you think that your
22:17lord will bring my bones back after they
22:20have become rameen like this and so
22:22allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala revealed surah
22:24yahseen in which allah describes not
22:27just his state of mind but the state of
22:30mind of anyone who is so arrogant as to
22:34reject allah to deny a god this verse is
22:37so powerful
22:41there he is in his arrogant saying where
22:44is the proof show me the signs and he
22:46has forgotten ignored his own creation
22:50are you that blind that you're demanding
22:53proof when you yourself are the greatest
22:56proof of the existence of allah he who
22:58cannot even see his own existence as a
23:01proof of the existence of the creator
23:03what other proof is ever going to
23:05satisfy him or her look at how powerful
23:07this verse is
23:10what other proof do you need that
23:12there's a powerful creator out there
23:14look at your own body look at where you
23:15came from look at how you live look at
23:18each and every aspect of the creation
23:20and that's why allah is saying
23:22throughout the quran they're asking you
23:24for miracles the miracles around them
23:26are enough these other miracles are not
23:27going to make them believe and this is a
23:29reality that anybody who negates the
23:32existence of a god the fact of the
23:34matter is that they keep on demanding
23:35for proof the fact of the matter is
23:37there is no proof that would satisfy
23:39them nothing would satisfy them and what
23:41they claim is mere words if the creation
23:44around you is not enough to prove to you
23:47the existence of a creator what other
23:49evidences is there so these are the
23:51quranic
23:52arguments so simple so straightforward
23:55so incontrovertible they're water tight
23:57that's the beauty of the quranic
23:58arguments they're water tight they
24:00appeal to every single person and this
24:02is one of the strongest arguments that
24:04allah is uses not just for his existence
24:06but in fact for the uh for the bringing
24:09back of the dead and the the day of
24:11judgment and
24:13allah azzawajal also says in verse 80
24:15that he is the one who has produced for
24:17you fuel mine
24:19from the green trees
24:22which you kindle your fire with so the
24:24wood that you use all types of fuel that
24:26you use he is the one who gifted it for
24:28you can't the one who created this
24:31recreated all over again of course he
24:34can in
24:37fact
24:42his command when he will something is to
24:45merely say be and it is
24:48so all glory be to him in whose hands is
24:51the control and dominion of all things
24:53and to him we shall all return this is
25:01you
