- 26:58fallen creation.
- 27:00As he powerfully directs all things for
- 27:04his own glory and creations good.
- 27:08For in him all the fullness of God was
- 27:11pleased to dwell
- 27:13and through him to reconcile to himself
- 27:17all things whether on earth or in heaven
- 27:21making peace by the blood of his cross.
- 27:25Amen, you may be seated.
- 27:32Well, welcome again. My name is Brian

- 27:43would just commend you the Friday
- 27:45e-letter or the website are great

- 27:50>> [snorts]
- 27:51>> Um
- 27:52With that, I'd like to move to corporate
- 27:54prayer if that's okay and uh if you'd be

- 27:59Father God, thanks that 1 Thessalonians
- 28:015 talks about rejoice always, pray
- 28:04continually, give thanks in all

- 28:11now. We lift up all matters to you.
- 28:14Thanks Lord that you created this um
- 28:17incredible place called earth, a place
- 28:19that is way too incredible to say that
- 28:22it's randomly thrown together. Thanks
- 28:24that you are our loving creator. Help us
- 28:26to have a relationship with you. Thanks
- 28:28that you didn't just give up on humanity
- 28:30and it's perpetual sin but made a path
- 28:33back to you through the atoning death of
- 28:35our son Jesus Christ, your son Jesus
- 28:37Christ. Thanks that we don't have to
- 28:39rely on our good works and thoughts
- 28:41since even one bad thought or deed would
- 28:43keep us out of a perfect heaven.
- 28:45Thanks that you don't just provide
- 28:47salvation in the next lifetime through
- 28:49Christ, but peace, purpose, and meaning
- 28:51in this lifetime.
- 28:53Thanks that you provide your word,
- 28:55scripture as a guide book to get through
- 28:57this life and the ability to communicate
- 28:59to you at any time through prayer.
- 29:02Thanks that you provide the Holy Spirit
- 29:04as a guide and power source to get us to

- 29:08well down here.
- 29:11We are sorry, Lord, at times we don't
- 29:13follow you well. We apologize for the
- 29:15times we commit sin by not only by our
- 29:18actions, not only by our actions, but
- 29:20our thoughts. We are also sorry for
- 29:22whatever sins we commit by omission or
- 29:25not doing what we should. Help us to
- 29:27have a short account and come to you
- 29:29daily for confession so that we can be
- 29:31better and better disciples for you each
- 29:33and every day.

- 29:57Thanks for when we've been able to love
- 29:59on others inside the four walls of this
- 30:01church or outside of it. Thanks for when
- 30:03we've been able to shine out the light
- 30:05of Christ well. Help us to do more of
- 30:07that.
- 30:09Father God, we lift up those that might
- 30:10have barely made it in today because of
- 30:12physical, mental, emotional, or
- 30:14spiritual challenges. May they receive
- 30:16healing words from you today and
- 30:18encouragement about how much you love
- 30:20them.
- 30:21We also lift up churches and ministries
- 30:23here in the states that proclaim your

- 39:47according to the measure of faith that
- 39:49God has assigned.
- 39:51For as in one body we have many members
- 39:53and the members do not all have the same
- 39:56function.
- 39:57So we, though many, are one body in
- 40:00Christ
- 40:01and individually members of one another
- 40:04having gifts that differ according to
- 40:06the grace given to us,
- 40:08let us use them.
- 40:09If prophecy, in proportion to our faith.
- 40:12If service, in our serving.
- 40:14The one who teaches, in his teaching.
- 40:17The one who exhorts, in his exhortation.
- 40:19The one who contributes, in generosity.
- 40:22The one who leads, with zeal.
- 40:25The one who does acts of mercy,
- 40:27with cheerfulness.
- 40:29Amen. You may be seated.
- 40:33Well, if you are following along, I
- 40:35think it's a great idea to
- 40:37pull up in your Bible, turn to
- 40:41Romans chapter 12 verses 3 through 8. If
- 40:45you are thinking
- 40:47or haven't necessarily been here through
- 40:50the series or I'll just zoom us out just
- 40:53for a bit
- 40:54in the sense that um
- 40:56we're dropping into this but not like a
- 40:58parachute but we're moving on through
- 41:00the next part of Romans here. If you
- 41:02think about
- 41:04Romans in the sense of where we've been
- 41:07really I I think
- 41:10really one through chapter one through
- 41:11eleven up to about verse thirty-two
- 41:14really is an explanation of salvation
- 41:16not only the way God accomplished it but
- 41:18then really the application of it in
- 41:21terms of people from a Jewish background
- 41:23and then a non-Jewish background. So if
- 41:25you if you think about this in terms of
- 41:27just looking at it like a map you know
- 41:29you start to zoom out to the whole
- 41:32and you know you think you're when
- 41:33you're looking at a map on your phone
- 41:34you
- 41:35pull it out you know that's really what
- 41:37we're doing here in in the sense of
- 41:39thinking about chapter one through
- 41:40eleven okay that's salvation. But then
- 41:43it really after that there's
- 41:45responsiveness to it. It's like okay if
- 41:48you've come to believe
- 41:50how does that marker change your life?
- 41:52And this is what Paul starts to get into
- 41:53with the Romans as they're trying to
- 41:55figure out how to get along together.
- 41:57There's going to be behavioral things
- 41:59characteristics that should mark the
- 42:00person who's a believer.
- 42:02And I think through the end of chapter
- 42:04eleven up through the entirety of
- 42:05chapter twelve there's really four
- 42:07marks.
- 42:08We looked at this a couple weeks ago and
- 42:11the first mark really being worship.
- 42:13If you think about what Paul talked
- 42:15about in in salvation and one of the
- 42:17things that he says is you know all the
- 42:19riches and the just the glory of God as
- 42:21he contemplated God's wisdom and how he
- 42:23accomplished salvation.
- 42:26Doxology and praise is is the the first
- 42:29and best response I think to
- 42:32theology and our reflection upon how God
- 42:35has saved us. And so he does that right
- 42:37at the end of the chapter he's just
- 42:38contemplating all of this in terms of
- 42:39God's wisdom and his his mind is blown
- 42:42but theology really really coming
- 42:45praise coming after theology I think
- 42:47makes the complete sense as he's
- 42:49unfolded it here. The second little mark
- 42:51then is I sacrifice, which we looked at
- 42:53last week. The sacrifice of ourselves in
- 42:55the sense of a being a living sacrifice,
- 42:58we basically say, "Okay, Lord, I've come
- 43:00to believe and now your my life belongs
- 43:03to you."
- 43:04And he starts to help us understand what
- 43:05that means. Don't be conformed to the
- 43:07pattern of this world,
- 43:09but be transformed by the renewing of
- 43:10your mind. And the idea of how our
- 43:12thought process is going to become part
- 43:16of that renewal, transformative thing
- 43:19that God is doing in our lives as we
- 43:21become Christians. So, the second piece
- 43:23then, if you think about sacrifice, the
- 43:24third piece then is is what's here this
- 43:27morning and humility. The way you think
- 43:29about yourself as you're getting along
- 43:31within a group of people. There was a
- 43:33problem happening in the church of Rome
- 43:35between these two
- 43:37rival groups, if I could put it that
- 43:39way, between
- 43:40non-Jewish people and Jewish people who
- 43:42had come together in a church and they
- 43:44were trying to figure out how to get
- 43:46along as a church being one in Christ
- 43:49yet having their differences.
- 43:51And there was a lot of tension that
- 43:52there that was born up in that. Paul's
- 43:55saying, "You are believers now.
- 43:57You are worshipers. You are giving your
- 43:59body as a living sacrifice. And now the
- 44:01way you think of yourself is going to
- 44:03have a a massive effect on how you get
- 44:06along." The last piece is love. We're
- 44:08going to look at that in a little bit a
- 44:09little bit later next couple weeks, but
- 44:11humility is where we're where we're
- 44:13going to start here and I think really
- 44:15the the passage explains his thought
- 44:18process
- 44:20power of the Holy Spirit of what
- 44:21humility means in both a negatively and
- 44:23a positive way. So, if you think about
- 44:25humility in the negative way, do not
- 44:26think more highly of yourself than you
- 44:28ought.
- 44:29Okay, so do not. Do not. Don't think of
- 44:31yourself this way. Don't think of
- 44:33yourself more highly. Okay, negative
- 44:35way.
- 44:36Positive way,
- 44:38exercise sober judgment as you think of
- 44:41yourself. Exercise sober judgment in the
- 44:43way you think of yourself.
- 44:45So, if you're thinking about, "Okay, how
- 44:47how is it that I am supposed to get
- 44:50along as a humble person inside of a
- 44:52church, inside of where I live, with the
- 44:53people that I move among.
- 44:56Well, thinking of yourself with sober
- 44:58judgment really accordingly in two ways.
- 45:01First of all, through through grace
- 45:04and secondly through your gifts.
- 45:06First through grace, then your gifts.
- 45:07And you see that in the passage. If you
- 45:09think soberly about yourself, think
- 45:11along the tracks of both grace and
- 45:13gifts.
- 45:14This is the way toward humility, a way
- 45:16toward the exercise of it within a group
- 45:19of people. And if a group of people
- 45:21coming together are humbled by what God
- 45:24has done in their lives,
- 45:26humbled around each other
- 45:28by the power of the Holy Spirit, they
- 45:29have a fighting chance of getting along.
- 45:32And we're all humans.
- 45:33And we all fight these temptations as it
- 45:35relates to pride.
- 45:37And I think Paul knows how pride can rip
- 45:39uh a fellowship apart. I think we all
- 45:41know it, frankly.
- 45:43If you've been around an organization
- 45:44long enough, a church in your life long
- 45:46enough,
- 45:48in a family,
- 45:49whatever it might be,
- 45:51you can see how uh pride can act like a
- 45:53spiritual cancer
- 45:54and can completely destroy things, just
- 45:56rip things apart.
- 45:58Same thing happens in a church.
- 46:00And so Paul's helping them to understand
- 46:02that humility is going to be one of the
- 46:04key marks
- 46:05as it relates to the way the people get
- 46:06along together, the way you think about
- 46:08yourself.
- 46:10Think is is mentioned four different
- 46:11times here in the span of one verse.
- 46:15So, if you think about if you think
- 46:16about think,
- 46:18if you think about thinking,
- 46:19the way you thinking about yourself has
- 46:21a lot to do with your humble approach.
- 46:23And so again, grace and and gifts are
- 46:26the tracks that he's going to move along
- 46:29today.
- 46:30The way you think about yourself in
- 46:31sober judgment. So, first of all,
- 46:32humility is really thinking about
- 46:33yourself
- 46:35as it relates to putting on
- 46:36grace-colored lenses. That's the way I'm
- 46:38thinking about it here. Grace-colored
- 46:40lenses.
- 46:42And so,
- 46:43the starting point of self-evaluation
- 46:45every day is God's grace.
- 46:48The humble people I have hung around,
- 46:50couple of them I think of specifically,
- 46:52as I was thinking about it this week,
- 46:54they have a way of peppering their
- 46:55speech with grace.
- 46:58They say they say things, "Well, by
- 46:59God's grace I was able to do that." And
- 47:02then and it's
- 47:03I could tell it's not put on. It's not
- 47:04preachy. You know, "Oh, by God's grace."
- 47:08No, it's not that.
- 47:10They just say, you know, "By God's grace
- 47:12I was able to do that."
- 47:14And it's it's like a normal part of
- 47:15their the way they evaluate themselves.
- 47:19That the the the favor they receive from
- 47:21God
- 47:23came through in a situation they knew
- 47:25they could have not ever orchestrated.
- 47:28Grace.
- 47:30Grace just it just it comes out of their
- 47:32mouth.
- 47:33And again, it doesn't feel put on. It It
- 47:35feels It feels very normal.
- 47:37Because there's been, I think, a
- 47:38rehearsal of grace in their private
- 47:41life.
- 47:43Because they realize that every every
- 47:44good and perfect gift has come from a
- 47:46gracious God.
- 47:48So, grace here is is the lens by which
- 47:51we start to work through our day.
- 47:54I I think of it like a
- 47:57I called it a grace complex.
- 47:59Not an inferiority complex.
- 48:02Some people might think, "Oh, here
- 48:03humility. That means you have to be down
- 48:06on yourself.
- 48:07You've got to think less of yourself.
- 48:09You know, you've got to tell people all
- 48:11your faults right away." No.
- 48:14He says, "Don't think more highly than
- 48:16you ought of yourself."
- 48:19But that that doesn't That doesn't mean
- 48:20you don't think of yourself ever.
- 48:23Of course you do.
- 48:25Look at how lovely you all look today,
- 48:27right?
- 48:28You got up. You put some nice clothes
- 48:31on, you know.
- 48:32Most people's hair is done right and
- 48:34well.
- 48:35You know, I'm looking out here. Say 90%
- 48:38No, I'm just kidding. Uh
- 48:40I don't you know, you think of yourself.
- 48:42Of course you do. We all do.
- 48:45You know, so
- 48:46humility isn't developing a kind of
- 48:48inferiority complex where you you just
- 48:50be down on yourself all the time.
- 48:52He says, "Think of yourself, just not
- 48:54too highly than you ought."
- 48:56The constant issue that we have
- 48:59is pride creeping in.
- 49:02Now, one writer put it this way,
- 49:03"Humility is not thinking less of
- 49:04yourself, but thinking of yourself
- 49:06less."
- 49:08Humility isn't thinking less of
- 49:09yourself, but thinking of yourself less.
- 49:12Now, that
- 49:14that starts to help me understand, you
- 49:15know, the thought process can be all
- 49:18about me.
- 49:20And that's where the problem comes.
- 49:23And so, in humility here, not thinking
- 49:25more highly than you ought,
- 49:28a more of an increase of him and a
- 49:30decrease of us,
- 49:32while standing in front of the mirror,
- 49:34of course.
- 49:36And I I've heard someone long time ago
- 49:39in a
- 49:41preaching seminar, but I think this is
- 49:43universal.
- 49:45But in this preaching seminar, there was
- 49:46advice that was given to young preachers
- 49:48to be yourself, but forget yourself.
- 49:52Be yourself, but forget yourself. I
- 49:53thought, "Well, that works beyond
- 49:54preaching."
- 49:56Be yourself, but forget yourself. It
- 49:58works in where you work. It works around
- 50:00your home.
- 50:02There's There's a sense in which you've
- 50:03been created in God's image with a
- 50:05personality, likes, dislikes,
- 50:08the way you operate.
- 50:11It's all perfectly legitimate.
- 50:13But it's not all of who you are.
- 50:16Even primarily who you are.
- 50:20Since you're one in Christ,
- 50:24he must increase, I must decrease.
- 50:27But I'm still standing in front of a
- 50:28mirror every day.
- 50:30Success, I don't think is the enemy of
- 50:32humility, and neither is hard work or
- 50:35even material blessings.
- 50:38I think the enemy of humility
- 50:40is that overriding sense sense of
- 50:42competition in everything that fuels
- 50:44pride. I
- 50:45like to think of it I I call it like
- 50:47pride is living in the ER,
- 50:49not in the sense of the hospital ER,
- 50:52but putting ER at the end of things.
- 50:55It's not about being smart, but being
- 50:57smarter.
- 50:59It's not about wealth, it's being
- 51:01wealthier.
- 51:04It's not about how you look, it's being
- 51:06better
- 51:08looking
- 51:09than the next person. It's this constant
- 51:11sense
- 51:12of competition
- 51:14that fuels pride
- 51:16and gets you looking side by side
- 51:19in comparison evaluating your life
- 51:23amongst everybody else.
- 51:25And the sense in which you think you're
- 51:27doing better really comes as a result
- 51:31of the way you're looking at other
- 51:32people and and and
- 51:35the the standard that you think exists
- 51:38that you must be superior to.
- 51:41It's a sense of competition
- 51:43in everything.
- 51:46And I think it invades all of us,
- 51:48infects all of us to a certain point. I
- 51:51think what Paul's helping us do here is
- 51:52to think it through and root it out. We
- 51:55all have different struggles in these
- 51:57areas. It's not that we don't.
- 52:00And he says faith is the standard. Faith
- 52:02is the standard in verse three here.
- 52:05He says
- 52:06um again toward the end, but to think
- 52:09with sober judgment each according to
- 52:11the measure of faith that God has
- 52:14assigned.
- 52:16So, faith is the measure.
- 52:18The standard by which I evaluate myself
- 52:22each day.
- 52:24And again, if you think about it even
- 52:25with the definite article in front of
- 52:26it, the faith. That is the body of
- 52:29received revelation God has given.
- 52:32As I understand I'm made in God's image,
- 52:34that Christ has rescued me.
- 52:36That I'm a product of grace.
- 52:39I can be a vessel of grace.
- 52:41And my faith responsiveness is something
- 52:43that um I am responsible for each day.
- 52:46My faith, that is the standard.
- 52:49Now, some people read, you know, a verse
- 52:50like this and they say, "Oh, according
- 52:52to the measure of faith apportioned."
- 52:55Well, I guess that must mean maybe cuz
- 52:57I'm struggling I I only got a little.
- 53:00And someone over there got a lot. And I
- 53:02started to think about this this week,
- 53:04you know, some people think about it
- 53:05like this.
- 53:07You know, poor me, I just got this
- 53:09little glass.
- 53:10I I I must not be doing very well in my
- 53:12faith, but I see the person over there
- 53:14and and they got a big gulp.
- 53:16And but that's the way God must be
- 53:18moving.
- 53:20You know,
- 53:21Darren got a big gulp.
- 53:23And poor me, I just
- 53:25I got a modified shot glass.
- 53:28And that that must be it for my life.
- 53:31I guess I'm not going anywhere.
- 53:33And I I don't read that verse that way
- 53:35at all.
- 53:36I think God has given us gifts in terms
- 53:38of grace. He's given us gifts that we're
- 53:40going to look at in just a minute in
- 53:41terms of our skill and talent.
- 53:43And he's also apportioned to us a a body
- 53:46of
- 53:47truth,
- 53:48a faith, the faith,
- 53:51as it relates to how we receive it,
- 53:54and then how we put it into action.
- 53:57And we all have these opportunities
- 53:58every day to exercise it, to get better
- 54:00at it, to grow in it.
- 54:02It's not going to be perfect.
- 54:05But there are these um moments that we
- 54:07have where we start to think of
- 54:08ourselves.
- 54:10And it's it's very tempting to use the
- 54:12world's standards as standard as the
- 54:14measurement of who we are in our
- 54:17identity.
- 54:19You know, he just said, "Don't be
- 54:20conformed to the pattern of this world."
- 54:22And it's very tempting to look at the
- 54:23world standard and evaluate ourselves.
- 54:27People do this all the time and it's
- 54:28it's it's tempting for all of us, you
- 54:30know.
- 54:31I consider myself a good person. Well,
- 54:34why do you consider yourself a good
- 54:35person? I didn't kill anybody, right?
- 54:38I avoided homicide today.
- 54:40I must be a good person.
- 54:43Well, Jesus has something to say about
- 54:45anger, doesn't he?
- 54:47If you really are evaluating yourself to
- 54:49the to the standard, if you think the
- 54:51measure of the faith,
- 54:53God's word revealed, received truth,
- 54:57Jesus speaks about what happens inside
- 54:59of our own heart as it relates to anger.
- 55:02I might not have picked up the knife or
- 55:04gun to murder somebody today,
- 55:07but I might have thought about it.
- 55:09And it is interesting, isn't it? Because
- 55:11that's really then the standard by which
- 55:13we recognize
- 55:15the the anger in my own heart has been
- 55:18taken to the cross and Christ died for
- 55:20it.
- 55:21And Christ now gives me the power to
- 55:23overcome it.
- 55:24Because when I look at his life,
- 55:27he took on that perfectly. But, now
- 55:30gives me the power to be able to take it
- 55:32on in my own life. The standard of the
- 55:34faith
- 55:35is how I'm evaluating myself.
- 55:38Other people say, you know, well, I
- 55:39consider myself a good person. I'm
- 55:40pretty patriotic.
- 55:42I'm going to go vote this week. Okay.
- 55:45Well, Jesus said, "Keep seek the kingdom
- 55:47first."
- 55:49Faith recognizes that we're members of
- 55:51two kingdoms,
- 55:53an earthly one and a heavenly one.
- 55:55He puts the priority on the heavenly
- 55:57kingdom.
- 55:58So, again, this the standard is
- 56:00different. As I'm renewing my mind and
- 56:03thinking about my humble approach, the
- 56:05grace that God has given, and the faith
- 56:07the the received
- 56:09truth and revelation now I'm I'm living
- 56:12according to.
- 56:14I was just laughing in my own mind
- 56:16yesterday doing my doing the leaves in
- 56:19my yard.
- 56:21You know, leaves come blowing over.
- 56:24And I think to myself, well, I guess
- 56:26I'll I guess I'll rake my neighbor's
- 56:28leaves.
- 56:30Okay.
- 56:31Well, I could start to feel pretty good
- 56:32about myself.
- 56:33I raked my neighbor's leaves today.
- 56:36Why did I do that? Well, because they
- 56:38were in my yard.
- 56:40And I don't want my yard to look like
- 56:41it's all leafy.
- 56:44Now, well, I did a good thing today. I
- 56:46raked my neighbor's leaves. Well,
- 56:47actually, you raked your own.
- 56:50And you did it for yourself.
- 56:53But, it's easy to claim a lot of credit
- 56:54when you do things like that.
- 56:57You know, the mind is a funny thing that
- 56:58way.
- 57:00But, the standard, if you think about
- 57:01it, is looking to Christ.
- 57:04Okay, he's coming, and he understands
- 57:06the deceitfulness inside of our own
- 57:08hearts.
- 57:09How much we decide to take credit for
- 57:11things that we frankly have no business
- 57:13taking credit in.
- 57:15Or that we want to look better in front
- 57:16of other people. And grace helps us
- 57:18understand
- 57:19that every day we are on the receiving
- 57:21end of this unbelievable
- 57:24um undeserved favor that comes from God.
- 57:28It's a thought process
- 57:29that should humble us.
- 57:31And this I think is what Paul is getting
- 57:33at. Now, I've been again really helped
- 57:35by Mere Christianity and and in the
- 57:37little section that C.S. Lewis has on
- 57:39the great sin uh called pride, he says
- 57:42uh this and this is where we'll just
- 57:43finish this little section, but he says,
- 57:45"Don't imagine that if you meet a really
- 57:47humble person
- 57:49that he will be what most people call
- 57:50humble nowadays.
- 57:52He will not be the smarmy man telling
- 57:54you he is a nobody.
- 57:57The humble person is that cheerful
- 57:58intelligent chap
- 58:00who took a real interest in what you
- 58:02said to him or her.
- 58:05He will not be thinking about humility.
- 58:08He will not be thinking of himself at
- 58:10all."
- 58:12Well, I really like that. I was really
- 58:13helped by that.
- 58:15Because if you think about it then you
- 58:16you you you ask yourself, you know, what
- 58:18really is humility as it relates to the
- 58:20way life works itself out?
- 58:23And it's not necessarily just about this
- 58:25humble approach as much it is as it is
- 58:29praying for the sincere desire that
- 58:32comes from Christ and his power
- 58:35to be about other people in the moment.
- 58:39The cheerful intelligent chap isn't
- 58:42thinking about humility.
- 58:44The cheerful intelligent chap
- 58:46isn't thinking of himself or herself at
- 58:49all.
- 58:51They're thinking about the other person.
- 58:54They're asking sincere questions about
- 58:56what's happening with the other person.
- 58:59They're listening.
- 59:01I've often said this, but and I and I I
- 59:03really believe it to be true and I'm
- 59:04trying to work it out although
- 59:06imperfectly in my own life, but I think
- 59:07the best evangelistic approach you could
- 59:10ever take
- 59:12is just having a sincere
- 59:15and curious approach
- 59:19to someone else's life.
- 59:22Just sincere ability to listen and be in
- 59:25the moment when someone else is
- 59:26speaking.
- 59:28For no other reason
- 59:30than you basically say
- 59:32you're increasing and I'm decreasing.
- 59:35And I want to hear what you have to say.
- 59:38Now, that could go in a lot of different
- 59:40directions.
- 59:41And certainly I'm not talking about it
- 59:43getting creepy.
- 59:45But simply to say
- 59:46there is something about the person who
- 59:49just stands in front of you and asks you
- 59:52sincere questions and cares about the
- 59:55answer.
- 59:56There's something very humble about
- 59:58that.
- 59:59And I think that's what C.S. Lewis is
- 1:00:00getting at here.
- 1:00:02But I also think it's something that
- 1:00:03Paul is getting at here in the book of
- 1:00:05Romans as it relates to humility.
- 1:00:08So, if humility is about thinking about
- 1:00:10Christ more and me less each day, his
- 1:00:12grace
- 1:00:13my reception
- 1:00:15a grace track on which I rehearse and
- 1:00:17think about my life
- 1:00:19a standard that's been given to me by
- 1:00:22his teaching and his word
- 1:00:24then yes, I think the more I'm thinking
- 1:00:27about him less and or him more and me
- 1:00:29less, I think I have a fighting chance
- 1:00:31toward this humility.
- 1:00:32Lewis talks about then these gifts, the
- 1:00:34other the other G here.
- 1:00:37So, you got G and G, the GGs.
- 1:00:40We had a We had a friend who used to
- 1:00:41call the
- 1:00:42uh
- 1:00:43the cool kids GGs.
- 1:00:45Called them the groovy girls.
- 1:00:47It was really funny, you know. And we
- 1:00:49used to we used to laugh. I said I I
- 1:00:50when I wrote GG, that's what I thought
- 1:00:51of.
- 1:00:52Groovy girls, groovy grooves.
- 1:00:54Well, if you think about humility here
- 1:00:57in the second G here, the the gifts.
- 1:00:59Humility is thinking soberly then, I
- 1:01:01think about how oneness flourishes among
- 1:01:04different gifts, different people.
- 1:01:07Humility flourishes oneness through the
- 1:01:10oneness
- 1:01:12of a group of different people coming
- 1:01:13together
- 1:01:15and exercising their gifts all
- 1:01:17differently but all toward uh the glory
- 1:01:19of Christ.
- 1:01:21I- If if I put it another way, you know,
- 1:01:23I I would say, you know, God's
- 1:01:25God's gift is more than you.
- 1:01:28God's gift is more than you.
- 1:01:31It's lots of people with lots of
- 1:01:33abilities.
- 1:01:34Everyone coming together to use them
- 1:01:38in such a way where God is glorified.
- 1:01:41So, oneness by all these different
- 1:01:44gifts. That's
- 1:01:45humility recognizes that that it's not
- 1:01:47just all about you.
- 1:01:49And the illustration that Paul uses here
- 1:01:51is of the human body. Okay, verses four
- 1:01:53and five, he starts to talk about this
- 1:01:55but he illustrates it.
- 1:01:57For as in one body we have many members
- 1:01:59and members do not have all the
- 1:02:01um
- 1:02:02Let me get there.
- 1:02:03And we have many members and and the
- 1:02:05members do not have all the same
- 1:02:06function. So, we though many are one
- 1:02:09body in Christ and individually members
- 1:02:12of one another.
- 1:02:13So, he makes this point that if you look
- 1:02:16at the human body, there's an
- 1:02:18interdependence about the human body.
- 1:02:20You can't separate one part out and say,
- 1:02:22"Okay, well, that now exists on its own.
- 1:02:25It's it's going to be fine." No, you
- 1:02:27have to have it all in order for it to
- 1:02:29function properly.
- 1:02:32And so, he's saying in the same way a
- 1:02:34local church, that's how it must get
- 1:02:36along.
- 1:02:37Humility is recognizes the diff-
- 1:02:40recognizing the differentiation
- 1:02:42that leads to the oneness, the unity,
- 1:02:46the proper flourishing, functioning of a
- 1:02:49church. You have to have people of all
- 1:02:51kinds doing different things in order
- 1:02:53for the thing to go the way it should be
- 1:02:55going.
- 1:02:57I think I recognized this when we
- 1:02:58started this church.
- 1:03:00I really started to think about all the
- 1:03:02things I realized
- 1:03:04I could never do.
- 1:03:06And how much I really needed
- 1:03:09other people in order for this thing to
- 1:03:10go.
- 1:03:12And I Yeah, there was a sense I think
- 1:03:14when I was on staff at Parkside at that
- 1:03:16made some sense to me.
- 1:03:18But once we got out and we had
- 1:03:22for lack of a better way of putting it,
- 1:03:23we had a pull off a church service
- 1:03:26and take care of kids.
- 1:03:29Take care of kids
- 1:03:31in this day and age?
- 1:03:34We need a lot of prayer for God's grace.
- 1:03:36But we needed people who were good at
- 1:03:38things
- 1:03:39to come together and make it happen.
- 1:03:42And I I've thought of this over the
- 1:03:43years and it's it's just brought me a
- 1:03:46tremendous amount of joy
- 1:03:48thinking about how people came together
- 1:03:51to do this and how in many ways how
- 1:03:54little I had to do with it.
- 1:03:56I I will still always remember
- 1:03:59when we went from people pushing carts
- 1:04:04like overloading these small carts that
- 1:04:06we got from Parkside
- 1:04:08to a group of guys that got together and
- 1:04:11built these giant blue boxes
- 1:04:13uh that rolled.
- 1:04:15And it was something, you know, all of a
- 1:04:18sudden it's a it's like the church took
- 1:04:20it was like another chapter in the
- 1:04:22history of Parkside Church Lake County.
- 1:04:24The blue box era.
- 1:04:27Where everything got into these boxes,
- 1:04:29you know, these
- 1:04:30you just come down the hall
- 1:04:31>> [groaning]
- 1:04:32>> here they [snorts] come.
- 1:04:33But it was like a group of people got
- 1:04:35together and decided, you know, like
- 1:04:37let's build a better system of
- 1:04:40organization
- 1:04:42and distribution.
- 1:04:44I could have never thought of that.
- 1:04:46I would still be pushing things around
- 1:04:48on that tiny little cart, you know.
- 1:04:50I Oh, I could get that in the back of my
- 1:04:52car.
- 1:04:53There's a better way to do this.
- 1:04:56There's a better way to do this.
- 1:04:58And it just takes people who are good at
- 1:04:59things to figure it out and they're
- 1:05:01unleashed and they're and they're going.
- 1:05:04And Paul's saying, you know, this is the
- 1:05:05way the body of Christ works. We're all
- 1:05:07one yet we're different.
- 1:05:10You know, that's the way salvation was
- 1:05:12worked out.
- 1:05:13The oneness in the plan of God but the
- 1:05:15differentiation of uh the persons of God
- 1:05:18Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to
- 1:05:20accomplish that. It's very Trinitarian,
- 1:05:22isn't it?
- 1:05:23Oneness and differentiation.
- 1:05:26The same thing is true with a with a
- 1:05:28local church body that functions as one,
- 1:05:31but is differentiated. It's a reflection
- 1:05:33of the Trinity.
- 1:05:34If you think about even that
- 1:05:36interdependence then in John 5:19, the
- 1:05:39son Jesus gets to this when he says,
- 1:05:41"The son can do nothing of himself, but
- 1:05:43uh only what he sees his father doing."
- 1:05:46There is differentiation, but there is a
- 1:05:48total dependence.
- 1:05:51There's an interdependence.
- 1:05:53And that's the way salvation was
- 1:05:55accomplished. It's the way things get
- 1:05:56accomplished in the church. When people
- 1:05:59realize, you know, I'm not good at that.
- 1:06:01Somebody else is. And I'm going to need
- 1:06:03their help if we're going to we're going
- 1:06:04to be able to pull this off.
- 1:06:07Salvation was accomplished this way
- 1:06:08through interdependent unity.
- 1:06:11Philippians 2, "But he made himself of
- 1:06:13no reputation and took upon the form of
- 1:06:15a servant and was made in the likeness
- 1:06:18of men."
- 1:06:19"And being found in the form of a man,
- 1:06:21humbled himself and became obedient to
- 1:06:23death, even death on a cross."
- 1:06:26Now, if you think about salvation being
- 1:06:27accomplished by interdependent unity,
- 1:06:30so true then is that our salvation as
- 1:06:33accomplished the one of the way it works
- 1:06:35itself out, it exercises itself, is in
- 1:06:39that interdependent unity that exists
- 1:06:41within this church.
- 1:06:43And so, there's different gifts,
- 1:06:44differentiation.
- 1:06:47They are all belonging to God and
- 1:06:49they're used for different purposes.
- 1:06:52Some are more public, some are more
- 1:06:53private. And you start to get into the
- 1:06:55list here, okay?
- 1:06:57"Having gifts that differ according to
- 1:06:59the grace given to us. They differ."
- 1:07:01"Let us use them."
- 1:07:04So, when you come to a church,
- 1:07:06you have skill or talent,
- 1:07:08there's a two-way street here in the
- 1:07:10church being able to figure out what
- 1:07:11that is and a person raising their hand
- 1:07:13saying, "I'm I think I'm a I think I'm
- 1:07:15good at this."
- 1:07:17Now, there's times where people say, "I
- 1:07:19think I'm good at this." And they might
- 1:07:20not be, okay?
- 1:07:23Well, especially when we started the
- 1:07:24church and people say, "I think I can
- 1:07:25sing."
- 1:07:27And then we listen to them sing.
- 1:07:30I don't know if that's a gift.
- 1:07:32That
- 1:07:33That's I'm trying to I'm trying to be
- 1:07:34mean.
- 1:07:36But it just that may not be it.
- 1:07:39But for another person, they can.
- 1:07:41Okay?
- 1:07:43And sometimes it was even like, well,
- 1:07:46could we could we go back and and help
- 1:07:48out in a place that really needs help?
- 1:07:51Oh, my I don't know if that's I don't
- 1:07:53know if that's really where I don't I
- 1:07:55don't think that's my children's not my
- 1:07:56gift. Well, that's actually not on the
- 1:07:58list here, children.
- 1:08:00But service is.
- 1:08:03Well, service isn't my gift. Well,
- 1:08:05we just need help.
- 1:08:07We're We're just We're not necessarily
- 1:08:08asking for your giftedness in this area.
- 1:08:12We need people.
- 1:08:13We We need just people trying to just do
- 1:08:16their best and be responsible, show up
- 1:08:17on time.
- 1:08:19And we've tried to keep the bar as low
- 1:08:21as possible as it relates to how we put
- 1:08:24people in those places. And but there's
- 1:08:25certainly there's people who have
- 1:08:26certain gifts.
- 1:08:28How they use them and how the church
- 1:08:30evaluates how a person evaluates
- 1:08:32themselves, how that comes together.
- 1:08:34But it's our hope that we keep helping
- 1:08:36people unleash their gifts.
- 1:08:39Some are more public, some are more
- 1:08:40private. Okay? So, the first one here in
- 1:08:44prophecy.
- 1:08:45I think that's that's interesting.
- 1:08:48People
- 1:08:49might get confused. Okay? Well,
- 1:08:51are you talking about there's modern day
- 1:08:53prophets now? I'm not saying that.
- 1:08:55Because there's a difference. There was
- 1:08:57foretelling prophecy.
- 1:08:59Really prophets in the Old Testament.
- 1:09:02You think about the
- 1:09:03the gifts that existed in the first
- 1:09:04century in the foundation of the church.
- 1:09:06It's a foretelling nature to that.
- 1:09:09And there's part of prophecy. I would
- 1:09:10call that capital P prophecy.
- 1:09:13I think what he's getting at here isn't
- 1:09:15necessarily that. I think he's talking
- 1:09:17about foretelling.
- 1:09:19There is a way to speak prophetically
- 1:09:23in front of people
- 1:09:25in proportion to analogous to the faith
- 1:09:28that's been given. In other words, there
- 1:09:30is a body of received truth.
- 1:09:33You got it. Some people have it and they
- 1:09:36are able to speak in a clarifying and
- 1:09:40passionate way about the truth received.
- 1:09:44They're good at that.
- 1:09:45They speak very smaller case P
- 1:09:48prophetically.
- 1:09:50And And yes, I think there's probably a
- 1:09:52more public aspect to that,
- 1:09:55but it need not only be public. There
- 1:09:58is, I think, a private sense in that,
- 1:10:00too, and that's mentioned later on in
- 1:10:02the list with exhortation.
- 1:10:05There is a way that people can speak in
- 1:10:07in an in an ex-
- 1:10:09ex- I don't even know what the word is.
- 1:10:11Just an exhortative way
- 1:10:14where they're able to clarify things.
- 1:10:16And I would say these are These are
- 1:10:18counselors.
- 1:10:20These are people able to dis- discern
- 1:10:22the human condition.
- 1:10:24They know God's word.
- 1:10:27They recognize what's available in
- 1:10:29society
- 1:10:31as it relates to regulating.
- 1:10:34And they're able to put those pieces
- 1:10:36together in a sensitive and yet
- 1:10:39clarifying way
- 1:10:41to where a person might walk out and
- 1:10:43say, "You know,
- 1:10:44I wasn't doing so well before this,
- 1:10:47but as a result of what I've been
- 1:10:49hearing, I'm doing much better."
- 1:10:52So, exhortation can be a public thing,
- 1:10:55but it also can be a private thing.
- 1:10:58And there are people who have gifts in
- 1:11:00that area.
- 1:11:01And you would hope that they are
- 1:11:03deployed within a local church that way.
- 1:11:06There's other gifts that I think are
- 1:11:08more public as it relates to teaching
- 1:11:10and and leading.
- 1:11:12Okay, yeah. People who might be
- 1:11:15teaching might be out in front, or they
- 1:11:18might be in private. They might be in a
- 1:11:20classroom right back here.
- 1:11:23People exercising a gift with children
- 1:11:25where they're able to take complex ideas
- 1:11:27and boil them down.
- 1:11:30I like that. I've I've been helped by
- 1:11:32that.
- 1:11:33I've been helped by people
- 1:11:35who taught who I sat
- 1:11:38under if I put it that way
- 1:11:40who were able to illustrate things
- 1:11:43really well.
- 1:11:45And
- 1:11:46that has always helped me the
- 1:11:47imagination.
- 1:11:50And there's there's something in the
- 1:11:51gifting of that when you do that with
- 1:11:53children or you volunteer during a week
- 1:11:55of the summer
- 1:11:57helping out with children or you figure
- 1:11:59out a better process and or just a a way
- 1:12:02to help them understand things. Leading
- 1:12:05is another
- 1:12:06is another gift here that I think is
- 1:12:08really interesting because
- 1:12:10the leading is a compound word here in
- 1:12:12the original.
- 1:12:14In front of and to stand. Okay, in front
- 1:12:17of and to stand.
- 1:12:19But if you think about it within the
- 1:12:20context of the first century a person
- 1:12:22leading within the church standing out
- 1:12:25in front was leading a church that was
- 1:12:27constantly under attack and being
- 1:12:29persecuted.
- 1:12:31So they were the ones in a sense taking
- 1:12:34the arrows
- 1:12:35in terms of protection.
- 1:12:38That's what leadership was.
- 1:12:40Leadership was saying, "I'll stand up in
- 1:12:43front and stand for Christ in a way
- 1:12:45where I will model
- 1:12:48to some degree
- 1:12:50what it means to stand for him knowing
- 1:12:52that the sacrifice of even my own
- 1:12:55physical body is a present reality."
- 1:12:59So leadership really was the
- 1:13:01responsibility to taking the arrows in
- 1:13:05protection.
- 1:13:07Now we've we've kind of made leadership
- 1:13:09more into stand out in front
- 1:13:12for its own sake.
- 1:13:15The leader is out front. The leader is
- 1:13:17charismatic. The leader is the leader.
- 1:13:20But in this sense here at least from the
- 1:13:22original language, the leader is the one
- 1:13:24who is pointing people to Christ and
- 1:13:26saying "I'm willing to lay down my life
- 1:13:29for Christ
- 1:13:30in the protecting sense.
- 1:13:32That's what it means to lead.
- 1:13:35And it's it's not about me, it's more
- 1:13:37about him.
- 1:13:39And leadership is uh
- 1:13:42you know
- 1:13:43it's born of that. It's born of that.
- 1:13:47But we've we've um
- 1:13:49we've kind of turned it around, we've
- 1:13:50turned it inside out.
- 1:13:52Made it more about the the leaders
- 1:13:54themselves.
- 1:13:56Some gifts I think are a little more
- 1:13:57private.
- 1:13:58As he gets into the list here, we talked
- 1:14:00about exhortation, that's one-on-one.
- 1:14:01There's also mercy.
- 1:14:04Mercy done with cheerfulness.
- 1:14:06Mercy wasn't meant to be done with um
- 1:14:09a public sort of sense of look what I
- 1:14:11just did.
- 1:14:13Let me let me announce my gift.
- 1:14:16But mercy was really meant to be
- 1:14:17extended to people in a side-by-side
- 1:14:20way.
- 1:14:21Where you recognize as you rehearse the
- 1:14:23grace of God, you say, you know, the the
- 1:14:25grace of God has been so evident in my
- 1:14:27life
- 1:14:29that I recognized I I was spiritually
- 1:14:31bankrupt when I came into this world. I
- 1:14:33lived spiritually bankrupt and frankly
- 1:14:34God protected me from making so many
- 1:14:36decisions that would have took my life
- 1:14:37right down the drain.
- 1:14:40He In so many ways he did that
- 1:14:43when I did not know him
- 1:14:45and created an opportunity for me to
- 1:14:46know him
- 1:14:48by mercy.
- 1:14:50And now I realize the people that I'm
- 1:14:52talking to in the difficult situation
- 1:14:54they be and I'm not looking down at
- 1:14:56them. In fact, I'm just looking
- 1:14:57side-by-side with them.
- 1:14:58Cuz I recognize in many ways physically
- 1:15:00is where I was spiritually.
- 1:15:02And I've been given everything in Jesus
- 1:15:04and and I can certainly sacrifice a
- 1:15:06portion of what I have cheerfully
- 1:15:08because I recognize what's been given to
- 1:15:10me. That's it.
- 1:15:12You do so cheerfully because you realize
- 1:15:13you're just doing it for an audience of
- 1:15:15one and nobody else.
- 1:15:17So it's not necessarily pity and
- 1:15:19certainly not something that you will
- 1:15:20wait for people to applaud you.
- 1:15:23You're just doing it because you
- 1:15:24recognize that you were on the receiving
- 1:15:25end of it.
- 1:15:26Cheerfully.
- 1:15:28And and and I think I'm going to finish
- 1:15:30here
- 1:15:31and use a personal illustration as it
- 1:15:32relates to generosity.
- 1:15:35Because I think generosity
- 1:15:37really when you think about generosity,
- 1:15:39it's it's just it I think it's a little
- 1:15:41more of a private thing than a public
- 1:15:42thing.
- 1:15:44Contribution, when you make your
- 1:15:46contribution, you can do so generously.
- 1:15:47There's
- 1:15:48plenty more gifts that are talked about
- 1:15:50in Corinthians and in Ephesians
- 1:15:52that we could get into, but I'm just
- 1:15:53looking at this list today.
- 1:15:56But I'll finish with generosity because
- 1:15:58we just had a funeral for Teresa
- 1:16:00Jacobson this past week.
- 1:16:03And
- 1:16:04I when Teresa Jacobson, when she was
- 1:16:07here inside our fellowship,
- 1:16:09I would have never
- 1:16:11known to go up to her and say, "I think
- 1:16:12you have
- 1:16:14the the gift of generosity."
- 1:16:16But the more I heard from people
- 1:16:19around the funeral, the more I realized
- 1:16:21she did.
- 1:16:22And now I can praise her cuz she's not
- 1:16:24here anymore. She's in glory.
- 1:16:27But I I learned that, you know, I
- 1:16:30I I had a sense of it
- 1:16:32when
- 1:16:33uh on one occasion, she she came to me
- 1:16:35and she handed me a roll of quarters.
- 1:16:38And she wanted me to give that to my
- 1:16:40son.
- 1:16:42A roll of quarters.
- 1:16:42[cough and clears throat]
- 1:16:44You know,
- 1:16:45the kids these days, what do you do with
- 1:16:47quarters? You know,
- 1:16:50put them in a video, you know, play
- 1:16:52video. What are you talking about?
- 1:16:54You know, okay, all right.
- 1:16:56But there was something sweet about
- 1:17:00just generously giving
- 1:17:02out of what you have.
- 1:17:04She did that.
- 1:17:05And there was something sweet about the
- 1:17:08stories that I heard that it wasn't just
- 1:17:10money that she was generous with, but it
- 1:17:12but it was words.
- 1:17:14She was a letter writer.
- 1:17:16She wrote people notes.
- 1:17:18She did it all the time.
- 1:17:20And people talked about that.
- 1:17:22How she was just very uh faithful in
- 1:17:24helping
- 1:17:26and encouraging people through through
- 1:17:28writing, through her words.
- 1:17:30And this goes back years.
- 1:17:33I I met a couple from
- 1:17:36Los Angeles that flew in for
- 1:17:39her funeral.
- 1:17:41Because
- 1:17:43when they interacted at Sunday evening
- 1:17:46service for a long time
- 1:17:48there was a generosity of spirit.
- 1:17:51Words and time.
- 1:17:54Presence.
- 1:17:56There was a self-giving that took place
- 1:18:00that had a tremendous impact and
- 1:18:03um
- 1:18:04the woman who was telling me the story
- 1:18:06about her interaction with Teresa
- 1:18:09said, you know, that's what she's trying
- 1:18:11now to model and do with other people.
- 1:18:14So, there's very much a discipleship
- 1:18:16element that happens
- 1:18:18that that that this these gifts
- 1:18:21there there there there's a multifaceted
- 1:18:23nature to them.
- 1:18:25And God has a way of using them in ways
- 1:18:27you could never you just it would me it
- 1:18:30would just blow your mind.
- 1:18:32And I think that's, you know, when you
- 1:18:33think about gifts in the church and the
- 1:18:36differentiation of them
- 1:18:39you don't have them all
- 1:18:40and you're not meant to.
- 1:18:43And but that's the beauty of it.
- 1:18:45There's different people doing different
- 1:18:46things to help this thing go.
- 1:18:49And when you realize that it all comes
- 1:18:50by God's grace then all the better.
- 1:18:53Because we're all on the receiving end
- 1:18:54of these kinds of talents and God's
- 1:18:56using them and I see it here.
- 1:18:58And I pray that as God brings people in
- 1:19:01they'll be more and more useful
- 1:19:03according to the way God's put them
- 1:19:05together.
- 1:19:06But I think that's what he's getting at
- 1:19:07here when he's talking about humility
- 1:19:09being this mark thinking soberly about
- 1:19:12yourself. There's other people with
- 1:19:13other gifts
- 1:19:15God's blessing the church with
- 1:19:17and there's a grace that's been given to
- 1:19:18me
- 1:19:19that I can rehearse each and every day
- 1:19:21that humbles me.
- 1:19:23And it helps me be present to live in
- 1:19:25the moment with other people who are
- 1:19:27talking that I can recognize
- 1:19:29that part of the graciousness that I can
- 1:19:31extend is just simply by listening
- 1:19:34and being with them.
- 1:19:36And no matter what your age is or your
- 1:19:38stage in life, you can still be that
- 1:19:39way.
- 1:19:41Teresa lived a pretty long time.
- 1:19:44And she was still trying to be that even
- 1:19:45up until the end, which I think is
- 1:19:46pretty cool.
- 1:19:48Let's pray. Father,
- 1:19:50we thank you as we think about
- 1:19:53the nature of
- 1:19:55a received body of truth that you've
- 1:19:57given to us here.
- 1:20:00And how some of the same challenges that
- 1:20:02exist in the first century exist today.
- 1:20:05Not only corporately inside of a local
- 1:20:07church, but also privately in our own
- 1:20:09hearts. And we pray today, Lord, that
- 1:20:10you will help us
- 1:20:12um root out uh
- 1:20:14the the the spiritual
- 1:20:16cancerous nature of pride.
- 1:20:18Lord, that you will help us again
- 1:20:20rehearse each and every day the the gift
- 1:20:22of grace that you've given to us in the
- 1:20:24person of Christ.
- 1:20:25Help us, Lord, as we do that in
- 1:20:27appreciating the differentiation that
- 1:20:28exists
- 1:20:30and the fact that some people are just
- 1:20:31good at things that we are not.
- 1:20:34And we thank you, Lord, as we think of
- 1:20:36these things in your grace and goodness
- 1:20:38that you're still at work inside of each
- 1:20:39of your our hearts. And we pray, Lord,
- 1:20:41you will increase our faith and our
- 1:20:43trust in you.
- 1:20:45Help us again today to transfer it away
- 1:20:47from ourselves little by little
- 1:20:50more and more to you. More of you, less
- 1:20:52of us.
- 1:20:53We pray all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
- 1:20:56Amen. We're going to stand and sing a
- 1:20:57final song together. Stand and sing with
- 1:20:59us.
- 1:21:15>> We sing.
- 1:21:16>> As I rise, [music]
- 1:21:19strength of God
- 1:21:22go before
- 1:21:25>> [music]
- 1:21:25>> me and

- 1:21:47my defense, [singing]

- 1:21:50>> [music]
- 1:21:50>> my side,
- 1:21:53as I rest.
- 1:21:56Breath of [music] God,
- 1:21:59fall upon me,
- 1:22:02>> [music]
- 1:22:02>> bring
- 1:22:03me peace.
- 1:22:05Bring me peace.
- 1:22:09Above and below me,
- 1:22:12before
- 1:22:12>> [singing and music]
- 1:22:13>> and behind me,
- 1:22:15in
- 1:22:16every eye that sees me.
- 1:22:19Christ be

- 1:22:50and behind [singing and music] me,
- 1:22:52in
- 1:22:53every eye that sees me.
- 1:22:56Christ be
- 1:22:57all around
- 1:22:58>> [singing]
- 1:22:58>> me.
- 1:23:04>> Well,
- 1:23:05one of the families we often pray for
- 1:23:07are are Rally or the the Terzic's Rally
- 1:23:11and Dragana out in Serbia, and I'll be
- 1:23:13with them this week, Lord willing,
- 1:23:15to be able to see what God's doing in
- 1:23:17the ministry there in Serbia, and to
- 1:23:19worship with them. Next Sunday in the
- 1:23:22little villages that that
- 1:23:25Rally is a part of as it relates to
- 1:23:27leading and preaching God's word, and
- 1:23:29we're thankful for that. So,
- 1:23:31if you just pray for the Serbian church,
- 1:23:33pray for Rally, Dragana, pray for me,
- 1:23:35too.
- 1:23:36Just I'm thankful for the fact that God
- 1:23:39has continued a relationship with them
- 1:23:41through the years, starting back in 2018
- 1:23:44until now. And so, again, we're thankful
- 1:23:47for for that and we're thankful for
- 1:23:50God's doing here.
- 1:23:51Paul says at the end of Philippians,
- 1:23:53"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be
- 1:23:55with you all in your spirit." And
- 1:23:57together we say,
- 1:23:59"Amen." Amen. You're dismissed.
