5. 0:08kidnapping at age 11 held captive for 18
6. 0:11years while running away was never an
7. 0:14option and how she hopes to move
8. 0:17forward did you think about taking those
9. 0:20two girls and
10. 0:21running I'm sure I
11. 0:24did but it wasn't something I felt I
12. 0:28could do because the situation felt
13. 0:33like wasn't an
14. 0:37option I don't know how else to explain
15. 0:40it there was no leaving what would it
16. 0:44have
17. 0:45taken for you to believe you could leave
18. 0:48I've asked myself that question many
19. 0:50times the Mind
20. 0:54manipulation plus the physical abuse I
21. 0:57suffered in the
22. 0:58beginning there was no leaving maybe if
23. 1:02one of the girls were being hurt and
24. 1:05everyone who thinks that that maternal
25. 1:08impulse would just scoop them up to run
26. 1:10doesn't they were safe I was being told
27. 1:13that the outside world was
28. 1:16dangerous ironically enough filled with
29. 1:18rapists and pedopiles pedophiles I
30. 1:20couldn't protect them out there I it's
31. 1:23like what I knew was safe the unknown
32. 1:28that was out there was
33. 1:31terrifying especially when thinking
34. 1:34about the girls do you think he'll ever
35. 1:36understand it why you didn't leave I
36. 1:39don't think so it wasn't until two
37. 1:42suspicious campus police officers
38. 1:44uncovered the truth that JC was reunited
39. 1:47with her mother after 18 torturous years
40. 1:51they're like you can see your mom and
41. 1:52I'm like I can I can see my
42. 1:56mom it was like a question to them you
43. 1:59know I can you're at the office the
44. 2:02phone rings unbelievable absolutely
45. 2:05unbelievable and then it was disbelief I
46. 2:08said no you're joking don't don't do
47. 2:10this to me this is not funny and I
48. 2:12remember I remember you
49. 2:16shouting my
50. 2:18daughter and I was crying you know when
51. 2:21you're crying and you can't
52. 2:23speak I just said come quick I remember
53. 2:26saying come come quick and I remember
54. 2:28telling you I'm coming baby I'm

56. 2:32coming and then I said I said something
57. 2:34about having babies I didn't mean I had
58. 2:37babies I mean I had had babies and it
59. 2:39was I didn't know what to say it was
60. 2:42like unbelievable and when you heard she
61. 2:44had daughters babies oh I'm thinking
62. 2:47babies okay I can deal with this those
63. 2:51babies were by now 15 and 11 the first
64. 2:56night the police officer let them stay
65. 2:58in a motel Jason wants her mother and
66. 3:01sister so much she can't sleep I woke
67. 3:04the girls up and I just said I'm so
68. 3:06happy I'm so happy I'm like I can't wait
69. 3:09anymore I don't care if they're sleeping
70. 3:11and so I ran down the hall I forgot the
71. 3:13motel key I walked in I'm so happy I'm
72. 3:15so
73. 3:17happy so happy and stunningly even now 2
74. 3:21years later with all that time lost she
75. 3:24insists life is too short for a moment
76. 3:26of bitterness or rage I don't feel like
77. 3:29I have this rage inside of me that's
78. 3:32building why
79. 3:34not how can you not I refuse to let him
80. 3:38have that he can't have me meanwhile now
81. 3:42free JC told Diane every day is an
82. 3:45amazing new chapter so tell me about
83. 3:48learning to drive you drive God I do

86. 3:57like oh God I did really good and my
87. 3:59mom's like
88. 4:00but look where you parked and I was like
89. 4:01taking two spaces she even makes a Ry
90. 4:04joke about her impossibly young skin
91. 4:07saying how about years of no son yeah
92. 4:11yeah it's how to preserve
93. 4:14yourself that's the kind of humor I use
94. 4:16to you know get by and as remarkable as
95. 4:21her recovery seems to be so far she's
96. 4:23still learning to adapt part of the
97. 4:25therapy led by Rebecca Bailey riding and
98. 4:28caring for hes
99. 4:30I mean maybe I believe in a higher power
100. 4:33but I believe in nature and what we see
101. 4:37around us as healing you know and and
102. 4:40yes she is remarkable I'm not I I will I
103. 4:42will give that I'm confident that the
104. 4:46community and the support that she has
105. 4:49put around her since she has come out
106. 4:52will carry her through whatever bumps in
107. 4:57the road she hits and I think she has a
108. 4:59lot to teach all of us I want to find
109. 5:02love one day the kind of love I read
110. 5:05about still want that I don't know I
111. 5:08don't really think about it I'm happy
112. 5:10the way my life is now I mean if it
113. 5:12happens it happens if it doesn't I'll
114. 5:15still be happy but it doesn't seem
115. 5:19impossible after what you've been
116. 5:20through no it doesn't seem
117. 5:23impossible really loved when ji and her
118. 5:25mother were on the porch with Diane the
119. 5:27way that they looked at each other and
120. 5:29JC said when she had her first daughter
121. 5:31at age 14 in captivity that she didn't
122. 5:34feel alone anymore when she had her baby
123. 5:36and I and I and I also just that phrase
124. 5:38that simple phrase he can't have me so
125. 5:42much strength in that phrase yeah it's
