Stop the Addiction Impulse in 60 Seconds (Here’s How) — Transcript

- 0:00Why you can't stop addictions. If you
- 0:03have an addiction, whether it's smoking,
- 0:05alcohol, porn addiction, sugar, social
- 0:08media, gambling, whatever, and you try
- 0:11to fight it, or you try to resist it,
- 0:14that addiction will become 10 times
- 0:17stronger. And this is what a lot of
- 0:18people don't realize. An addiction is
- 0:21not low willpower. It's not a lack of
- 0:24discipline at all. It's not that the
- 0:26person's crazy or weak or any of that.
- 0:29I'm going to show you exactly what an
- 0:30addiction is in the body. Then I'm going
- 0:33to show you a technique to weaken this
- 0:36addiction within a minute and put you
- 0:39back in the driver's seat. Everything is
- 0:40based on survival. If you're thirsty,
- 0:44the body will go after water.
- 0:46When you're hungry, your body will go
- 0:49after food. With addictions, it's a
- 0:51little different. You drink some
- 0:53alcohol,
- 0:54you feel less stressed, you feel better,
- 0:57you'll feel happier. What happens next
- 0:59is this chemical dopamine is going to
- 1:01tag alcohol as something that increases
- 1:05survival. Let's say you took a drug and
- 1:07you felt high and you felt less
- 1:09stressed, or you felt more energetic,
- 1:12this chemical is going to tag that as
- 1:15something to help you survive. And if we
- 1:16take gambling, you're increasing your
- 1:19odds to get more resources with less
- 1:22effort, right? People are scrolling all
- 1:25these potential mates to pick from in a
- 1:28very short period of time, and it's an
- 1:30abundance because pornography mimics
- 1:33reproduction, which is a internal
- 1:36survival drive. Let's take
- 1:38ultra-processed foods, right? You eat a
- 1:40donut, you get pleasure immediately from
- 1:42that. This chemical will tag it as
- 1:45survival. So, as you repeat it, it
- 1:47becomes stronger and stronger and
- 1:49stronger
- 1:50in two different chemicals.
- 1:53This chemical right here, it's the gas
- 1:55pedal that gets you activated, and then
- 1:57dopamine is kind of like the fine-tuner.
- 2:00It tunes in to specifically what is
- 2:03considered important, whether it's
- 2:05alcohol, drug, water, food, etc.
- 2:08Dopamine does not have anything to do
- 2:10with giving you pleasure. It's another
- 2:12chemical called opioids that gives you
- 2:14the pleasure, at least initially.
- 2:17But if you keep doing it,
- 2:20the pleasure goes away.
- 2:21Okay? And all you get now is relief. But
- 2:25our brains have not differentiated
- 2:27cocaine from comfort, alcohol from
- 2:31stress relief. And then the more you do
- 2:33it, the more these chemicals go higher
- 2:35and higher and higher. And then we get
- 2:38massive glutamate spikes. When this
- 2:40chemical goes this high, you start
- 2:43having abnormal body sensations that are
- 2:46no longer just an urge towards
- 2:48something, it's basically agitation, you
- 2:52feel pressure in your body, you go from
- 2:55I want it to I need it or I have to have
- 2:58it. Now, we have this compulsion or this
- 3:01obsession with certain things. And of
- 3:04course, if you ignore it, you fight it,
- 3:06you resist it, guess what happens? Your
- 3:09body turns up the dial, the flight or
- 3:11fight system kicks in there, you have
- 3:14more cortisol, more stress, more body
- 3:17sensation, like your chest gets tight,
- 3:20or you have more anxiety, more pressure
- 3:22to get you to give in. And so
- 3:24eventually, addictions have nothing to
- 3:26do with pleasure, it's all to do with
- 3:29relieving the withdrawals. So now let's
- 3:32show you what you can do about this. How
- 3:34can we quickly reduce the body urge or
- 3:38sensation that is driving you towards
- 3:40this thing? So let's just say for
- 3:41example, you are addicted to alcohol,
- 3:44right? And you start getting these body
- 3:46urges or compulsions to go after that
- 3:49thing. What can you do
- 3:52to reduce that urge?
- 3:55First thing you have to realize is that
- 3:57urge is coming from either too much
- 4:01glutamate
- 4:03or dopamine. It's coming up, but it will
- 4:06come down. The question is, how do we
- 4:09bring it down? The first thing you're
- 4:11going to do, number one, is you're going
- 4:12to rate on a scale from 0 to 10 the
- 4:16intensity of this compulsion or impulse.
- 4:20Number two,
- 4:22you're going to locate it or point to
- 4:24where it is in your body.
- 4:26Is it coming from your chest, or your
- 4:28head, or another part of your body?
- 4:31You're locating where this sensation is,
- 4:36because it is a body sensation, okay?
- 4:40Number three,
- 4:41you're going to describe it
- 4:43to yourself.
- 4:44Is it pressure? Is it a pulling feeling?
- 4:48Is it a tight chest? Is it like anxiety
- 4:51or a restlessness in your muscles?
- 4:54Whatever it is, just describe it. And
- 4:58then, number four,
- 5:00you're going to go back to number one.
- 5:02Re-rate
- 5:04that sensation, okay, from 0 to 10.
- 5:07You're going to notice the intensity is
- 5:09going to be significantly lower. And
- 5:12then you're going to go to number two.
- 5:13Locate it and point to it. Where is it
- 5:15now? Did it shift? Did it move? Is it in
- 5:18the same location? And then number
- 5:20three, describe it. Did it change in
- 5:22character? And then number four, go back
- 5:24to number one. Re-rate it. What you're
- 5:26actually doing is you're taking
- 5:28something that's very vague and kind of
- 5:31all over your body, and you're making it
- 5:34very specific. You're differentiating
- 5:37you from it. You're putting it over
- 5:41here, okay, away from you. So you can
- 5:43kind of see it, and you can identify it,
- 5:46and you can also realize it's not you,
- 5:49it's this other thing. And what's really
- 5:51magical about this is the more you
- 5:53define it and you look at it, and you
- 5:56put it over there, the less it's going
- 5:59to affect you, the less intense it's
- 6:01going to be. And a lot of times these
- 6:03sensations can go away in under a
- 6:05minute. Just follow step 1 2 3 4 and
- 6:09repeat until that sensation is gone.
- 6:13Remember, it's on a wave and you're just
- 6:15speeding the thing up to bring it down
- 6:17to zero intensity. Go ahead and do this
- 6:21and then comment down below and then
- 6:23read all of the success stories. This
- 6:25really works. It's an amazing technique.
- 6:28Is it going to cure you? No, this is
- 6:30only temporary. It's a quick technique
- 6:33just to allow you to cope with it. Next
- 6:36thing, NAC, it stands for
- 6:38N-acetylcysteine.
- 6:40This is a natural remedy that they use
- 6:43for a lot of things, Tylenol poisoning,
- 6:46to break up thick mucus,
- 6:48but it also greatly helps reduce these
- 6:53glutamate spikes that I talked about.
- 6:56Glutamate is an excitotoxin for the
- 6:58brain. NAC helps you regulate the
- 7:03spikes, so it has more of a normal
- 7:06amount. Some people take 600 mg if they
- 7:10have maybe a minor problem, 1200 mg, but
- 7:14if they really have this major
- 7:17addiction, they might take 2400
- 7:20mg per day. Because high glutamate is
- 7:23causing things to be urgent, having
- 7:26compulsions, and more pressure. In the
- 7:29brain, you have the gas pedal, which is
- 7:31glutamate, and then you have the brakes.
- 7:34What are the brakes? GABA. What's a good
- 7:36way to increase GABA? Glycine, which I
- 7:39like to combine it with magnesium as
- 7:41magnesium glycinate because you get the
- 7:44glycinate which actually increase the
- 7:46GABA, the brakes, plus you have
- 7:48magnesium that actually can help reduce
- 7:51cortisol
- 7:52and the fight or flight mechanism.
- 7:55Because in addictions, when you resist,
- 7:57the body starts
- 7:58massively increasing stress hormones to
- 8:01force you to do certain things.
- 8:02Magnesium glycinate is another antidote
- 8:05for this impulse. As a side note, if
- 8:09you're a smoker, okay, and you're
- 8:11addicted to nicotine, it's a little
- 8:13different. Nicotine is one of those
- 8:15really strong addictive things in your
- 8:18body. And then if you smoke a pack a
- 8:19day, you're talking hundreds of
- 8:22trainings, okay, for that dopamine. So,
- 8:25if you're a smoker and you're trying to
- 8:26get rid of that,
- 8:28you're going to have to add a couple
- 8:30additional things to help you. More
- 8:32vitamin B1 and also potassium. Both of
- 8:36these can greatly help in the
- 8:39biochemical pathways for smokers. And
- 8:42then the other thing about a smoker is
- 8:44that
- 8:45the withdrawals can last 1 to 2 weeks
- 8:48hardcore. So, as long as you can go into
- 8:51this and hang in there for 2 weeks, it's
- 8:54going to get a lot easier. And you have
- 8:56to retrain your body. And that brings up
- 9:00another very, very important thing. And
- 9:03this is your environment. Changing the
- 9:06people that you hang out with if they're
- 9:08part of the trigger. Let's just take
- 9:11ultra-processed foods and even sugar.
- 9:13And you go home and you have these
- 9:15little bowls of candy all around you or
- 9:18you have junk food in your refrigerator,
- 9:19your pantry. You have to change your
- 9:22environment so it's not in your face.
- 9:24For bad habits, you have to add barriers
- 9:28to get them. Now, obviously, if you're a
- 9:30smoker, you would absolutely, positively
- 9:33not have any cigarettes around the
- 9:36house. Maybe you'd want to have
- 9:38substitute things like toothpicks in
- 9:41your mouth. And with pornography, you'd
- 9:44obviously want to put filters on your
- 9:46cell phone, and you'd want to not bring
- 9:48your cell phone in your bedroom. If you
- 9:50have a very strong addiction to alcohol
- 9:54or drugs,
- 9:55one of the best rehab programs out there
- 9:59is called Narconon. And if you've never
- 10:01heard about it, you should check it out.
- 10:03I put a link down below. Narconon is not
- 10:05about giving you a drug to get off a
- 10:07drug. It's about putting you in a
- 10:09different environment, safe environment,
- 10:11so these things don't trigger you
- 10:12anymore. And also they emphasize
- 10:14nutrition to plug the holes in some of
- 10:17these deficiencies. A lot of addictions
- 10:19start when there's already deficiencies
- 10:23of exercise,
- 10:24sleep, blood sugar issues.
- 10:27It makes the person more vulnerable to
- 10:30developing an addiction. If your body is
- 10:32agitated, if your body has an impulse
- 10:35towards something,
- 10:36and you start exercising, you are going
- 10:38to naturally add movement to reduce that
- 10:42body sensation. Because you actually get
- 10:44the relief from exercise. So this is a
- 10:46really good substitute for addictions.
- 10:50Having enough sleep is probably one of
- 10:53the best ways to restore those two brain
- 10:56chemicals, glutamate and dopamine,
- 10:59because they're dysfunctional. And then
- 11:01especially to get your blood sugar
- 11:03balanced out by not eating carbohydrates
- 11:06and by not snacking, going on a low-carb
- 11:09healthy diet with high-quality animal
- 11:11protein. Super important because if your
- 11:14blood sugar is off, you're going to have
- 11:16more problems with dopamine. It's almost
- 11:18impossible to fix it on top of a blood
- 11:21sugar issue.
- 11:22One last thing, oxytocin. Oxytocin is a
- 11:27bonding hormone. It's a social hormone.
- 11:30When someone has an addiction, if they
- 11:32don't get whatever their body urges
- 11:34telling them to get, that puts your body
- 11:36in danger.
- 11:37Well, oxytocin is the safety hormone
- 11:40that you can actually activate to help
- 11:44substitute these messages, okay?
- 11:47There's several ways to get oxytocin.
- 11:50Hugs, hugging people, pets, bonding with
- 11:54other people, friendships and things
- 11:56like that, spending more time with your
- 11:57family, L. reuteri, okay? I did a whole
- 12:01video on this. This is a microbe
- 12:03[clears throat]
- 12:03that you can actually turn into a yogurt
- 12:06that has super high amounts. When I
- 12:09started taking this, within probably a
- 12:11few days, my wife said, "What has gotten
- 12:13into you?" I said, "What do you mean?"
- 12:14She "You want to like hug me several
- 12:16times a day. You never want to hug me."
- 12:18I said,
- 12:19"It must be the yogurt." She goes, "Keep
- 12:21eating the yogurt." And also just having
- 12:23a purpose can actually increase
- 12:24oxytocin.
- 12:26But, my viewpoint, I think everyone has
- 12:30the same purpose.
- 12:32And that is to help someone or
- 12:34something. That's at the foundation of
- 12:36most people's purposes. And it just so
- 12:38happens that when you help, you can also
- 12:41increase oxytocin. Now, since this is
- 12:44the last thing I'm talking about, if you
- 12:46have not seen this video I did on L.
- 12:48reuteri, it's fascinating.
- 12:50You'll love it. And I put it up right
- 12:52here. Check it out.
