Stop Quercetin Supplements (New Study) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00about one week ago i made a video
- 0:02explaining why i'd stopped taking
- 0:03quercetin and physicism supplements it
- 0:06was on the back of some disappointing
- 0:08data that came out from the
- 0:09interventions testing program they
- 0:11trialled physician and there was no
- 0:13health span or lifespan benefits scene
- 0:16there was also no synalytic activity
- 0:18generally people could understand why it
- 0:20stopped taking physician but there was a
- 0:22lot of confusion as to why it stopped
- 0:24taking quercetin as well and i want to
- 0:27address all of the main questions that
- 0:29came up in the comments section
- 0:30let's get into it i used to take both
- 0:33quercetin and physician five days in a
- 0:35row each month and this was for the
- 0:37synalytic effect essentially what i was
- 0:40trying to do is clear away my old
- 0:42senescent cells cells that are no longer
- 0:44dividing and potentially could be
- 0:46damaging my surrounding tissues both
- 0:48quercetin and physin they're molecules
- 0:51called flavonoids and flavonoids are
- 0:53found in fruits and vegetables and out
- 0:55of all of the flavonoids that have been
- 0:57tested it's physician that's the most
- 0:59potent synalytic and that's why the
- 1:01interventions testing program trialled
- 1:03physcetin and not quercetin and
- 1:05unfortunately there was no benefit seen
- 1:08with physician supplementation so if
- 1:10there's no benefit with physician and
- 1:11even worse than that there's no
- 1:13synalytic activity seen as in there was
- 1:15no evidence of clearance of the
- 1:17senescent cells why would i use a less
- 1:20potent synalytic in quercetin if
- 1:22physician doesn't work so i hope that
- 1:24makes sense if the most potent synalytic
- 1:27as in physatin doesn't appear to give
- 1:29any benefits why would i take a less
- 1:31potent synalytic as inquisitive it
- 1:33doesn't make sense and that's why i
- 1:35stopped both of them the next question
- 1:37that came up was around absorption was
- 1:40physician actually absorbed by these
- 1:42mice because of course if the physician
- 1:44isn't being absorbed we're not going to
- 1:45see a benefit well before the
- 1:47interventions testing program trials any
- 1:49molecule they do make sure that it can
- 1:52actually be absorbed so listen to what
- 1:54dr richard miller the head of the
- 1:56interventions testing program says about
- 1:57spermadine and why they haven't tested
- 2:00spermadine the other drug you mentioned
- 2:02was spermatine
- 2:04a very fine
- 2:06scientist frank padeo
- 2:08recommended that we try this
- 2:10told us how much to use and whenever
- 2:12before we start a lifespan experiment we
- 2:13always give the mice the drug for eight
- 2:15weeks just to see if it gets in
- 2:18and we put them on spermadine and eight
- 2:20weeks later we found no increase in
- 2:22spermidine in the blood or the liver or
- 2:25any of the other tissues so we were not
- 2:27willing to test
- 2:28a drug in mice unless we could prove
- 2:32that it was
- 2:33changing their intrinsic level of
- 2:35spermity in at least one tissue so there
- 2:37you go the interventions testing program
- 2:39they do make sure that the molecules
- 2:41that they're testing can actually be
- 2:43absorbed by the mice and gives the
- 2:44molecules a chance to work and in this
- 2:47case then flycotin it was being absorbed
- 2:49but there was no benefit seen and no
- 2:51synalytic activity seen then in the
- 2:54comments section people were mentioning
- 2:55all sorts of other reasons for taking
- 2:57quercetin so for example some people
- 2:59were taking quercetin to lower their
- 3:01uric acid levels and this idea of
- 3:03lowering uric acid it really took off
- 3:06after dr david perlmutter published his
- 3:08book called acid drop now i have done a
- 3:11separate in-depth video around the
- 3:13research on lowering uric acid levels
- 3:15and i'll link to it in the pinned
- 3:17comment below but essentially lowering
- 3:19uric acid levels for non-gout patients
- 3:22it goes completely against the latest
- 3:24clinical guidelines dr perlmutter talks
- 3:27about how lowering uric acid levels may
- 3:29prevent the chances of developing
- 3:30dementia but actually the research
- 3:33suggests the complete opposite two
- 3:35separate meta-analyses which combined
- 3:37all of the available data together both
- 3:39concluded that uric acid might actually
- 3:41protect against dementia and that lower
- 3:44levels of uric acid is a potential risk
- 3:46factor for developing dementia so using
- 3:49quercetin to lower uric acid levels
- 3:51makes no sense at all then other people
- 3:54in the comments were mentioning about
- 3:55how they were using quercetin for its
- 3:57anti-inflammatory effect but arguably
- 3:59the most famous anti-inflammatory
- 4:01flavonoid is curcumin and that's found
- 4:04in turmeric curcumin was trialled by the
- 4:06interventions testing program in 2012
- 4:09and no lifespan effects were seen so if
- 4:11the most potent anti-inflammatory
- 4:13flavonoid curcumin doesn't provide any
- 4:16benefits why would i take a less potent
- 4:18flavonoid as in quercetin it doesn't
- 4:20make sense so i hope that by addressing
- 4:23those points i've cleared up any
- 4:24confusion as to why i've made the
- 4:26decision to stop taking quercetin to
- 4:28recap physatin is the most potent
- 4:31flavonoid synalytic but there was no
- 4:33synalytic activity seen with the
- 4:35interventions testing program there was
- 4:37also no other benefits or lifespan
- 4:39extension seen so it doesn't make sense
- 4:41to continue the less potent synalytic as
- 4:43in quercetin that's why i stopped both
- 4:45physician and quercetin the next
- 4:48question was whether physician was
- 4:49actually absorbed by the mice and we can
- 4:51see quite clearly that during the
- 4:53process of selecting molecules that the
- 4:55interventions testing program trials
- 4:57they first make sure that the molecules
- 4:59are absorbed so the physician it was
- 5:01absorbed but no benefit was seen the
- 5:04research also doesn't support the idea
- 5:06of using quercetin to lower uric acid
- 5:08levels for non-gout patients and finally
- 5:11the most potent flavonoid for
- 5:13anti-inflammatory effects is curcumin
- 5:15and that didn't produce any benefits
- 5:17when it was tested in 2012 so why would
- 5:20i take a less potent anti-inflammatory
- 5:22as in quercetin so please let me know in
- 5:25the comments section if i've missed any
- 5:26of your queries or if there's any
- 5:28remaining confusion because i do want to
- 5:29try and clear things up a massive thank
- 5:31you to all of the patrons who support
- 5:33the channel and if you haven't already
- 5:35please check out my clinical trial
- 5:36fundraiser for rapamycin until next time
- 5:39thanks very much
