- 0:00do you want a wardrobe that works for
- 0:01you and not against you start by
- 0:04avoiding these mistakes save your money
- 0:06make better purchases and make getting
- 0:09dressed easier in the long run stop
- 0:11buying the same things in different
- 0:14fonts so let me show you what I mean I
- 0:16have four iterations of a blue and white
- 0:20striped shirt yes they're all slightly
- 0:23different in their own ways but
- 0:25essentially they're all blue and white
- 0:27stripe shirts how different are they
- 0:30really so let's try and break this down
- 0:31I think it all started off with the max
- 0:35shirt from suzan I bought it in white
- 0:38first and I love it it is just the
- 0:41perfect like oversized shirt the cotton
- 0:44is really thick and sturdy it's not
- 0:46see-through at all and so I also bought
- 0:48it in a blue and white stripe cuz I
- 0:50thought it would be really nice for
- 0:51Springtime and then over time I've
- 0:54slowly accumulated another three very
- 0:56similar shirts I think in theory it
- 0:59sounds great you know if you like this
- 1:01one item why not buy variations of it
- 1:04but are you ever really wearing the
- 1:07variations from the original I think
- 1:10that this can often cause decision
- 1:12fatigue when we look at our wardrobes
- 1:14and we just see so many things there but
- 1:17it actually turns out that quite a few
- 1:19of them are really similar and it can
- 1:21also lead to our outfits feeling really
- 1:23similar even though we're wearing
- 1:25different pieces so I think you need to
- 1:28ask yourself what it is about the
- 1:30original that you really liked for me I
- 1:33love that it's a button- down like I
- 1:34know I like button- down shirts I love
- 1:37the oversized fit I love the thick
- 1:39material and I love the way it looks
- 1:41tucked into jeans but it's not
- 1:43necessarily the blue and white stripe
- 1:46that I love even though I really like it
- 1:47on the original and once I realized that
- 1:50I branched out a little bit more I got
- 1:52an oversized brown shirt I got an
- 1:55oversized green and white stripe shirt
- 1:58and so now I have have more variations
- 2:02in my looks made up of elements that I
- 2:04really like so if you ask yourself and
- 2:07analiz what you like about the item that
- 2:10you want to buy multiples of it might
- 2:12save you in the long run and you'll be
- 2:15able to make better purchases in the
- 2:17future stop buying items that you don't
- 2:21love when you open your wardrobe and you
- 2:23look at all your clothes can you safely
- 2:26say that you love everything in there
- 2:29because I can't if I'm being totally
- 2:31honest I used to buy a lot of crap I've
- 2:35had my fast fashion era my Asos my H&M
- 2:39buying things every single week era and
- 2:42then I slowly improved and I moved
- 2:44towards a more capsule wardrobe approach
- 2:47to what I bought but I still didn't have
- 2:50the knowledge that I have now back then
- 2:53about how to really look for high
- 2:56quality clothes which is a video I'm
- 2:58working on by the way so subscribe if
- 3:01you haven't so that you don't miss it
- 3:03I'm slly replacing my old pieces with
- 3:06new ones well not always new I'm trying
- 3:08to shop free loved as well but just
- 3:11better quality pieces basically anyway
- 3:13all that's to say I have enough clothes
- 3:17I have more than enough clothes and so
- 3:19when I introduce something new into my
- 3:22wardrobe I have to absolutely love it I
- 3:26have to love the composition I have to
- 3:28love the quality I have to love the
- 3:30color I have to love the cut if one of
- 3:32these things is not right then it's out
- 3:36I'm not keeping it so let me show you
- 3:38this sweater that I got recently this is
- 3:41from Rise and Fall which was in my
- 3:44knitwear Brands better than the High
- 3:46Street video this is 30% cashmere and
- 3:4970% Marino wool it's really soft I think
- 3:54the quality is so good it's really thick
- 3:56I love the color I know burgundy is very
- 3:59try right now but I think it's a
- 4:02seasonal like autumnal Autumn winter
- 4:04color I love this thick v-neck ribbing
- 4:08here I love everything about this jumper
- 4:12except I think it's a smidgen too long
- 4:15for me I would love it if it was
- 4:18slightly shorter and so for that reason
- 4:21even though I love everything else about
- 4:24it I know that the length is going to
- 4:28like I could keep it you know I could
- 4:29could keep it I could easily just tuck
- 4:31it in and it and it would be fine but I
- 4:34know that I I would just always think I
- 4:37wish this was a little bit shorter I've
- 4:39got so many items like this that I've
- 4:43kept in the past you know I've loved
- 4:45everything except for something and now
- 4:48I'm trying to you know either sell or
- 4:50replace those things for ones that I
- 4:53truly truly love and I just don't need
- 4:55to keep more of these things you know so
- 4:58stop buying things that you don't
- 5:00absolutely truly love because in all
- 5:02honesty none of us need more things be
- 5:06really picky about the things that you
- 5:08choose to keep and in the long run it
- 5:11will make getting dressed so much easier
- 5:14and so much more fun stop buying only
- 5:17Trends or only Basics do you often find
- 5:19yourself staring at your wardrobe unable
- 5:22to find anything to wear even though
- 5:24your wardrobe is full of clothes that
- 5:26might be because you're only buying
- 5:28trendy statement pieces now I'm not
- 5:31saying never buy Trends I think Trends
- 5:33can be a really fun way to refresh what
- 5:36you wear but the key is to only buy the
- 5:38ones that suit your personal style and
- 5:41to be really picky about it as well if
- 5:44you have a wardrobe of pieces that are
- 5:45only trendy you might find that you
- 5:48don't have a very cohesive wardrobe you
- 5:51might be missing key wardrobe Essentials
- 5:54that are the foundations of being able
- 5:56to wear these statement pieces however
- 5:59on the on the flip side of that buying
- 6:01only Basics and wardrobe Essentials is
- 6:04not great either yes you'll be able to
- 6:06create outfits but they might not be the
- 6:09most interesting outfits that can
- 6:11showcase your personality for me
- 6:14personally and you know this is just
- 6:15coming from my own experience and
- 6:17personal style because I do love Basics
- 6:20and wardrobe Essentials I think a really
- 6:21good like percentage for me would be to
- 6:25have
- 6:2670% you know wardrobe Essentials and
- 6:29basics
- 6:30and then 30% statement or trendy pieces
- 6:33when I first started my YouTube channel
- 6:36almost 4 years ago now I was very into
- 6:39my Basics and don't get me wrong I still
- 6:41love my Basics and my neutrals and I
- 6:43wear them all the time I used to wear
- 6:45some really like fun and maybe a little
- 6:47bit edgy pieces as well and I think I
- 6:50sort of lost that because I thought that
- 6:52having a Wardrobe full of Basics was the
- 6:55best thing ever so this year I've been
- 6:57trying to incorporate some color and
- 6:59some fun pieces into my wardrobe but
- 7:02because I have quite a strong
- 7:04foundational wardrobe of Basics it's
- 7:07been quite easy to incorporate these
- 7:09more statement pieces back into my
- 7:11wardrobe so the takeaway here is to stop
- 7:13buying only Trends or stop buying only
- 7:16Basics but have a good mix of both that
- 7:19you can mix and match to create more
- 7:22interesting outfits stop buying
- 7:24something just because your favorite
- 7:25content creator has it I also get a lot
- 7:27of my recommendations from from social
- 7:30media I'll see something on someone and
- 7:31I'm like ooh that could be quite nice on
- 7:33me but you have to make sure that you're
- 7:36buying it because you actually like it
- 7:39it will go you know really well with
- 7:42whatever you have in your wardrobes and
- 7:43it's something that you would buy anyway
- 7:47not just because this person has it and
- 7:49this is where the trick of cutting off
- 7:51the head of your inspiration picture can
- 7:54really help we as humans have a natural
- 7:56bias towards good-look people or people
- 8:00that we just really like and admire and
- 8:02so cutting off the head can help to
- 8:05eliminate that person from the equation
- 8:09and then you can take a minute to
- 8:11analyze the photo and question is it the
- 8:15item that I want or is it this person's
- 8:18vibe that I just really love a lot of
- 8:21the times I will do this I will cut off
- 8:22the head of the image that I'm looking
- 8:25at and I'll ask myself is it these pair
- 8:28of jeans
- 8:30or is it just because her legs are
- 8:32really long and skinny and you also want
- 8:34really long and skinny legs I'm 5'2 so I
- 8:36always want long and skinny legs but
- 8:38that's just not the case that is not how
- 8:41jeans work these jeans are going to look
- 8:43different on me than they do on this
- 8:45person and for some reason cutting off
- 8:48the head makes me process that a lot
- 8:51better so it's always worth taking that
- 8:53extra step and figuring out if it's the
- 8:57actual piece you want or is it just this
- 8:59this person's Aura and vibe that you
- 9:02love stop buying uncomfortable shoes I
- 9:05don't even think I need to say anything
- 9:07more about this tip I think we all know
- 9:09this but here are a few things to look
- 9:12for to indicate if a shoe might be more
- 9:16comfortable or not of course this is not
- 9:17completely foolproof and everyone's
- 9:19Feet's different but here are a few
- 9:21things to think about when shopping for
- 9:23shoes the fit can you move your toes
- 9:25around is there enough space to wiggle
- 9:27them around if there isn't then they're
- 9:29probably too tight if you have wide feet
- 9:32look for shoes with a wider toe box
- 9:34don't try and stuff your foot into a
- 9:37shoe you know is too narrow for you or
- 9:39if the brand does it some brands do have
- 9:42wider fit Styles then look for those as
- 9:44well is the heel rubbing on the back of
- 9:46your foot I think a little bit of
- 9:48friction is fine because that's what
- 9:50keeps your foot inside the shoe but if
- 9:52the back of the shoe is really hard and
- 9:55stiff then you will probably get
- 9:57blisters is there any padding on the
- 9:59sole of the shoe the more padding there
- 10:01is and the more comfortable the shoe
- 10:03will be in the long run generally
- 10:05speaking of course flat shoes are more
- 10:07comfortable than heels personally I'm
- 10:09quite comfortable in a boot with a heel
- 10:12but I do tend to gravitate towards block
- 10:14heels as opposed to a stiletto heel that
- 10:17way the weight is more distributed and
- 10:19is a little bit more comfortable a block
- 10:21heel is also more stable than a stiletto
- 10:24so you're less likely to kind of roll
- 10:26your ankle or hurt your feet and then
- 10:28the outsole is really important as well
- 10:30so that's the sole that touches the
- 10:32ground it needs to have some friction on
- 10:34it otherwise you're going to be slipping
- 10:35and sliding so if it doesn't have any
- 10:38friction then you may want to get soles
- 10:40put on it also needs to be a little bit
- 10:42flexible so that it can move with your
- 10:43feet you know we don't walk like this
- 10:47our foot bends and the shoe needs to
- 10:50bend with the foot if it's too hard or
- 10:52stiff it's not going to be comfortable
- 10:55to walk on for long periods of time so
- 10:57those are my tips to avoid buying
- 11:00uncomfortable shoes stop buying items
- 11:02that are not on your wish list AKA
- 11:05impulse shopping I feel like this tip is
- 11:08especially relevant right now because we
- 11:10are kneee in Black Friday and then we're
- 11:14going to enter into Christmas and Boxing
- 11:16Day sales it can be really hard to avoid
- 11:19marketing tactics that make you want to
- 11:21buy things that you don't necessarily
- 11:23need and this is exactly what they are
- 11:25they are marketing tactics to make you
- 11:27feel that urgency to get that adrenaline
- 11:31going and make you feel like oh my God I
- 11:33need to buy this now and if you've
- 11:35listened to any of my videos before then
- 11:37you'll know that I'm all about a wish
- 11:39list if you just take that time to look
- 11:42through your wardrobe see if there's
- 11:44anything you need if there's anything
- 11:46that's missing or anything that you need
- 11:49to replace you'll feel so much less
- 11:52overwhelmed once sales roll around
- 11:54because let me tell you for the past 2
- 11:56weeks I have been feeling very
- 11:58overwhelmed
- 12:00with emails and Instagrams and Tik toks
- 12:03telling me that sales have started so I
- 12:05just drowned out all the noise by
- 12:08focusing on my wish list I just stuck to
- 12:11my guns stuck to my list and had a much
- 12:15Karma time navigating sales because then
- 12:18I knew I could avoid emails telling me
- 12:20things were on sale because I knew
- 12:22that's not what I'm looking for I really
- 12:24think that all good purchasing habits
- 12:27lead back to
- 12:29continuously editing and curating a well
- 12:34thought out wish list so if you want me
- 12:36to show you how I use mine let me know
- 12:39in the comments and I will put it in a
- 12:41future video stop buying items just
- 12:44because it's pre-loved or vintage it can
- 12:47be really tempting to buy something when
- 12:49you are secondhand shopping due to the
- 12:51nature of secondhand shopping you might
- 12:54have that feeling of like I might never
- 12:56see this item again or sometimes it can
- 12:59feel like fate that you did come across
- 13:01this item and sometimes it can even feel
- 13:03like you're doing a good thing by
- 13:05purchasing something secondhand and all
- 13:08of these feelings can be very powerful
- 13:10at the time but you still have to apply
- 13:13some self-restraint when you're
- 13:15purchasing secondhand let me show you a
- 13:17t-shirt that I bought when I was in
- 13:20Tokyo and I was thrift shopping I got
- 13:23this In-N-Out t-shirt which don't get me
- 13:25wrong I think it's really cute I think
- 13:27it's really fun but have you you ever
- 13:29seen me wear a graphic t-shirt like no
- 13:33neither have I I haven't worn it yet I
- 13:35think because I don't normally wear
- 13:37things like this it's like a little bit
- 13:40harder for me to style and so I just I
- 13:42just haven't I think I just bought it
- 13:44because you know I was thrift shopping I
- 13:47was looking through hundreds of t-shirts
- 13:49and I finally saw one that I was like oh
- 13:51this is kind of fun kind of cute and you
- 13:53know it wasn't that expensive so I just
- 13:56bought it I think it can be really easy
- 13:59to get caught up in this feeling of like
- 14:02scarcity or fate or oh it's cheap so
- 14:06like I can just get it like it's
- 14:07secondhand I'm doing something good for
- 14:09the planet ultimately are you actually
- 14:11going to wear it are you actually going
- 14:13to use it I hope you got something out
- 14:15this video especially as we are going
- 14:17into sale season if you enjoyed this and
- 14:20you want to stick around you can watch
- 14:21this video on screen it's about how to
- 14:23build an authentic personal style as
- 14:26always thank you so much for watching
- 14:27and I will see you in the next video bye
