4. 0:15you're doing well this is the sixth and
5. 0:17final installment of my Steven McDaniels
6. 0:22commentary man it's been a slog we are
7. 0:27deep in the troll vortex of insanity I
8. 0:30don't think anyone's gone this far it's
9. 0:33like cave diving but a lot more
10. 0:35dangerous it's funny there's a lot we're
11. 0:39not a lot but there's definitely some
12. 0:43people that are coming in and watching
13. 0:45these videos out of order and just being
14. 0:47like why is he calling him Steven it's
15. 0:51really annoying okay I could only watch
16. 0:56five seconds of this video because I
17. 1:00don't know if he's trying to do a
18. 1:01southern accent but he's just calling
19. 1:04him Steven I love that these videos are
20. 1:08just gonna be on YouTube just going into
21. 1:11the future and there's gonna be people
22. 1:12there like why does he call him Steven
23. 1:16all right so let's just get into this I
24. 1:21think we're picking up about 40 minutes
25. 1:24in to this and at an hour 37 they leave
26. 1:30him in the room and just leave him in
27. 1:33there like a little troll just sitting
28. 1:36there motionless and we pick up as red
29. 1:41shirt is in there and red shirt is just
30. 1:47trying to do everything he can to battle
31. 1:51the vortex and at one point he goes
32. 1:53staven were real people and I think that
33. 2:00line right there the stave and we're
34. 2:02real people if you you could boil this
35. 2:05whole interrogation down to just that
36. 2:09one line to describe what the troll
37. 2:11vortex of insanity
38. 2:13is that line were real people would be
39. 2:16crazy in any other interrogation they're
40. 2:19not talking about evidence they're not
41. 2:21talking about the murder he's trying to
42. 2:26convince Stephen that he's real that's
43. 2:29how far it's devolved were real people
44. 2:32Stephen Stephen then he's like deed it's
45. 2:38going nowhere Stephen really settles in
46. 2:41and does pretty well on this last push
47. 2:45he almost gets stronger with time it's
48. 2:47crazy he really gets ditch the yes no i
49. 2:50don't know going hard and it doesn't
50. 2:52look like he's feeling the pressure then
51. 2:58red shirts like do you use acid he's
52. 3:01trying to figure out why he's just
53. 3:04sitting there you use acid and then he
54. 3:09and then he goes with I know you're not
55. 3:11a monster technique which we've seen I
56. 3:14think in every interrogation that I've
57. 3:17analyzed it's a common technique of I
58. 3:22know you're not a monster
59. 3:25Stephen Stephen I know you're not a
60. 3:28monster you don't want everyone to think
61. 3:32you're a monster it's kind of a legacy
62. 3:34strategy it's saying do you want your
63. 3:36legacy to be that you are just this cold
64. 3:40troll headed freak or do you want your
65. 3:44legacy to be something got out of hand
66. 3:51you made a horrific mistake and they
67. 3:54were using that against Chris Watts and
68. 3:56old underwear Russ just you're not a
69. 3:58monster I know you're not a monster
70. 4:00let's get this out let's just get this
71. 4:05out Stephen and what I thought what it
72. 4:14sort of seemed like red shirt was doing
73. 4:16when he started going into the legacy
74. 4:18strategy of I don't think you're a
75. 4:19monster are you is I thought he was just
76. 4:23gonna kind of abandon trying to talk
77. 4:27to Steven and just sort of talk Adam and
78. 4:30it's a strategy or I don't even know if
79. 4:33it's a strategy but it's a it's a it's
80. 4:37used just just kind of abandon the
81. 4:40interrogation and just talk at them it's
82. 4:43you'll see it with people that it's
83. 4:46obvious they're not going to crack so
84. 4:50one that comes to mind is the Jim Smith
85. 4:53Michael what's it called
86. 4:57Rafferty I think Michael Rafferty Jim
87. 4:59Smith look that one up and if it's not
88. 5:01Michael Rafferty someone in the comments
89. 5:03will know the real name but these
90. 5:07interrogators go after this Michael
91. 5:09Rafferty guy for a long time Jim Smith
92. 5:12has taken turns and it's just obviously
93. 5:15Michael Rafferty is such a piece of [ __ ]
94. 5:18that he just doesn't care you know all
95. 5:21this none of the strategies work they're
96. 5:23saying they're doing what they did with
97. 5:25Russ or they're saying if you want if
98. 5:28you don't want your loved ones to have
99. 5:30their houses turned upside down with
100. 5:32searching you got to tell us you know
101. 5:34michael radford he's just sitting there
102. 5:35you can tell he's not going to crack so
103. 5:37at one point jim smith instead of just
104. 5:41keeping kind of the insanity vortex
105. 5:44going jim smith changes gears and just
106. 5:49goes listen i don't care if you talk I'm
107. 5:53just gonna talk at you you know we know
108. 5:56you killed this person you're gonna
109. 5:58spend the rest of your life in little
110. 6:00rooms like this you know it's like if
111. 6:03you can't get them to confess you might
112. 6:05as well just lay it out lay it on the
113. 6:07line how it is like you we know you
114. 6:10killed them you're going to jail forever
115. 6:12I don't even care if you talk right now
116. 6:15I'm just gonna sit here and talk at you
117. 6:17it's over buddy and I thought that
118. 6:22that's what red shirt was gonna it
119. 6:23sounded like the tone of voice he was
120. 6:25using is he was going to do this in this
121. 6:28interrogation that's what I would have
122. 6:30done I would said Steven I don't even
123. 6:33care if you talk or say I don't know you
124. 6:34can just sit there like a little troll
125. 6:37but you did this
126. 6:40you killed that girl and you're going
127. 6:43down and you're gonna spend the rest of
128. 6:45you there's not gonna be any you're not
129. 6:47gonna be a lawyer all that work you did
130. 6:49was for nothing
131. 6:50it's over you know and just see him
132. 6:54react to that because you could really
133. 6:56kind of just drive it home I thought
134. 6:58that's what they were doing I was like
135. 7:00finally just do it and and then they
136. 7:03brought back into the vortex so strap in
137. 7:10all right white shirt comes back in and
138. 7:15I think white shirt I think he's just a
139. 7:18little bit tired this night and he seems
140. 7:23a lot more susceptible to just fall deep
141. 7:25into the vortex even than red shirt so
142. 7:27he comes in to take his turn and he's
143. 7:32talking about Stephens family saying do
144. 7:35you love your nieces and nephews and
145. 7:38Steve yes and it's like well if
146. 7:40something happened to them would you be
147. 7:41sad it seems like yes and this whole
148. 7:45time red shirt is just Stan and it was
149. 7:47just staying right up in Stephens face I
150. 7:49even think still holding his shoulder so
151. 7:52a Stephen is looking at white shirt red
152. 7:55shirts face is just right here and that
153. 7:59goes on for a little bit and then red
154. 8:00shirt just leaves the room we find out
155. 8:05that Stephen is living off student loans
156. 8:07and he's I don't think he's ever really
157. 8:09worked or had a job and they asked him
158. 8:15what his plans are after he graduates
159. 8:20and his plans are in two weeks from you
160. 8:25know where they are in the interrogation
161. 8:27two weeks he's going to move home with
162. 8:30his parents which I think really support
163. 8:32what I said where he just freaked out at
164. 8:35the thought of not being just a college
165. 8:39kid without a job living on student
166. 8:41loans gets to sit on his computer all
167. 8:43day you know probably has to put a
168. 8:46couple hours into studying but just sits
169. 8:49on his computer all day he's got his
170. 8:50little prepper fantasy with the toilet
171. 8:53paper
172. 8:53rolls gets to indulge in his violent
173. 8:57porn you know the girl that he's
174. 9:01stalking and infatuated with happens to
175. 9:03live right next to him so he kind of can
176. 9:05just perv out to that thought and I
177. 9:08think he really kind of likes his life
178. 9:11he gets to live just that I sit on my
179. 9:13computer all day once he moves home I
180. 9:16mean maybe his parents are bizarre too
181. 9:19I've seen a couple comments that say
182. 9:21that his parents are just the sort of
183. 9:24the same troll vibe as he is but once
184. 9:27you go and live with your parents
185. 9:28they're gonna be like we don't need all
186. 9:30these SpaghettiOs stave and the toilet
187. 9:37paper rolls - can we put those in the
188. 9:38garage why are they in here
189. 9:45it's a white shirts just get getting
190. 9:47it's going nowhere he's asking him
191. 9:51questions a lot of just I don't know I
192. 9:53didn't want at one point white shirt
193. 9:54goes do you know anything and Steven
194. 9:59just sits there just trolls right
195. 10:03through and then this just shows how
196. 10:09susceptible that white shirt is to the
197. 10:13vortex this is the the difference
198. 10:15between the troll vortex verse reality
199. 10:18so white shirt is trying to get the
200. 10:24information of when was the last time
201. 10:27Steven cleaned his car right and so in
202. 10:30an or and a lot of interrogations it
203. 10:32would be like when was the last time you
204. 10:33cleaned your car and then the the person
205. 10:37would be like well I haven't cleaned it
206. 10:38since I got it back from my mom she
207. 10:41borrowed it when her car was in a wreck
208. 10:43but with Steven it goes when was last
209. 10:47time you clean your car I haven't since
210. 10:50I got it back who did you get it back
211. 10:53from from my mom when did your mom drive
212. 10:57it she got into a wreck you went down
213. 11:00and picked her up no she got in a wreck
214. 11:02and make them so she got in a wreck and
215. 11:05make them why was she up in May
216. 11:07come to see you she was getting the
217. 11:09brakes checked she was getting the
218. 11:11brakes checked in Maycomb she was
219. 11:13getting there's a good break place in
220. 11:16Macon
221. 11:18sorry Macon was I kind of make them in
222. 11:24it I mean it's just like all this time
223. 11:26goes by and then all of a sudden all
224. 11:30he's found out is that his mom drove his
225. 11:33car for a few days while hers got fixed
226. 11:35and it's just like all the time white
227. 11:39shirt is still continuing to test the
228. 11:42limits of the office chair all right and
229. 11:48then white shirt after the whole like
230. 11:50mom car drove brakes in Macon
231. 11:54nothingness why sure it goes lift up
232. 11:57that shirt let me see those scratches
233. 11:59and I'm watching it I was like yes let's
234. 12:02talk about the scratches that is the
235. 12:04best evidence so far that they have and
236. 12:09Steven lifts up his shirt and shows him
237. 12:11the scratches and he doesn't he just
238. 12:13goes on all right he doesn't stick on it
239. 12:18he spends five minutes talking about how
240. 12:21his mom got her car fixed in Macon and
241. 12:27he doesn't press him on the scratches I
242. 12:29just don't get that all right then our
243. 12:3417 redshirt comes back in and while he
244. 12:40was gone apparently he talked to a bunch
245. 12:42of people that Steven had worked with
246. 12:43Steven had worked with at the clerk's
247. 12:48office and asked him like what Steven's
248. 12:51personality was during that whole
249. 12:55internship or that he worked with them
250. 12:57and everybody had said oh he's so nice
251. 12:59he's got a you know a person he's got a
252. 13:01bunch of personality and he's always
253. 13:03socializing so he comes back in the
254. 13:06white shirt leaves the chair is very
255. 13:11happy sigh of relief from the chair and
256. 13:19it's like you were so nice to everyone
257. 13:22at the clerk's office why just the yes
258. 13:23no I don't know and see you in just goes
259. 13:26I don't know and read her shirts head
260. 13:31falls I really like how red shirt
261. 13:33doesn't try to hide his frustration like
262. 13:36most interrogators wouldn't want the
263. 13:39person to see that they're so frustrated
264. 13:41that they're slamming their head on the
265. 13:43table or just going why Steve and also
266. 13:46in the back half of this red shirts
267. 13:49cracking me up because he'll he starts
268. 13:52saying Stevens name as if it's just
269. 13:55offensive when he lies so he'll be like
270. 13:57Steven did you hurt that girl and Steven
271. 14:00will be like no I didn't do it and red
272. 14:03shirt will be like Steven staven like
273. 14:07he's just offended that he's lying I
274. 14:09don't know I end up really kind of being
275. 14:12fond for red shirt as this goes Steven
276. 14:18someone that finds this video in four
277. 14:21years is getting really mad that I'm
278. 14:23calling him Steven that's all right hang
279. 14:26in there buddy all right
280. 14:33so an hour and twenty two red shirt
281. 14:36really just turns up the pressure for
282. 14:38the final push and it's the funny like
283. 14:43when was the last time you did laundry
284. 14:44and Stevens like not for weeks
285. 14:47and red shirt it's like you got enough
286. 14:51underwear to go three weeks and Stevens
287. 14:55like yes and he's like you wear
288. 14:57underwear more than one day yes why and
289. 15:04Stevens like because it's still clean
290. 15:06enough to where it's diving little T
291. 15:09everybody ladies and gentlemen little T
292. 15:14so people were saying that she gets a
293. 15:19drink out of my water this is actually
294. 15:20her water we bought her a hundred and
295. 15:23fifty dollar like cat fountain has a
296. 15:26waterfall
297. 15:28and that and she won't drink out of it
298. 15:30the only place she'll drink in the whole
299. 15:32apartment is out of this cup up on the
300. 15:35desk so I'm sitting on the piano bench
301. 15:37so we have to put the piano bench right
302. 15:39here and she jumps up that's why she
303. 15:43jumps up on the desk because I'm sitting
304. 15:45in her seat and she drinks right there
305. 15:48so little tea everybody little tea is 11
306. 15:53she's a tuxedo cat she's cool all right
307. 15:57so the final push let's see you get
308. 16:07enough underwear somewhere and deep in
309. 16:13the Canadian jail system
310. 16:16Russell Williams is thinking about
311. 16:18underwear and going why Jim Smith why
312. 16:28okay so to this point there's not real
313. 16:30think they have any evidence which is
314. 16:34just such an uphill battle for
315. 16:36interrogation someone had a comment that
316. 16:38it's like really whether an interrogator
317. 16:40looks like a genius or just looks like
318. 16:46they're not very good comes down to the
319. 16:47evidence they have behind them and I
320. 16:49agree with that if you have all this
321. 16:52evidence and stuff it's probably easy to
322. 16:54go in there and confident and be like
323. 16:56Russ what are we gonna do Russ but I
324. 16:59don't think these guys have anything
325. 17:01which is just weird because at this
326. 17:05point in the interrogation they've been
327. 17:08searching Stephens apartment for hours
328. 17:12and you would think they would have
329. 17:15found something but have the scratches
330. 17:21they're not bringing those up I don't
331. 17:22know I don't know if I'll ever quite
332. 17:24understand how this one played out all
333. 17:30right so after all this time red shirts
334. 17:34doing the final pressure push gets up
335. 17:36right in his face and we are there after
336. 17:39all this build-up we are finally at
337. 17:41the hair is there Steven staven and he's
338. 17:46going your hair fell out staving when
339. 17:49you were moving the body and he keeps he
340. 17:51keeps taking a pad and scratching his
341. 17:54hair and going looks diving look how
342. 17:58easy your hair falls out
343. 18:00looks diving diving he's like look at
344. 18:05all that hair up there you don't think
345. 18:06any fell out it did staving your hair is
346. 18:11there your hair is there Steven you
347. 18:19don't think he he goes you don't think
348. 18:21none fell out it did just right in his
349. 18:25face your hair is there and then he kind
350. 18:30of gets somber and he's just like why
351. 18:32man what happened and I feel like he
352. 18:36should have stayed on that I think that
353. 18:38he should have just started talking out
354. 18:40I'm like what happened why did you do it
355. 18:44why are you sitting there like a troll
356. 18:46just say it and with with no evidence
357. 18:55it's they still kind of know what
358. 18:56happens cuz redshire basically stands up
359. 18:59and says stay even you went into her
360. 19:02apartment and you hurt her and Steven
361. 19:10doesn't crack he's just sitting there
362. 19:11motionless hasn't moved in hours defies
363. 19:14human defies human nature and then
364. 19:19finally red shirt just goes well you sit
365. 19:22here and leaves the room and for the
366. 19:25rest of the recording that we have
367. 19:27Steven doesn't move and then apparently
368. 19:30and this is just where it gets just
369. 19:34confusing so apparently in the tape that
370. 19:38we don't see after Steven has not even
371. 19:40budged for two hours just put her in
372. 19:46four-wheel troll low and just rolled
373. 19:49right through every single strategy
374. 19:52just with mud tires apparently sometime
375. 20:00later in a in the footage that we don't
376. 20:02see which is just sketchy they get
377. 20:04Steven to admit that he has gone into
378. 20:07other apartments burglarized other
379. 20:10apartments for one condom I don't know
380. 20:14how they got Steven to admit that it
381. 20:19just seems weird to me that he would but
382. 20:22that's enough to arrest him on the
383. 20:24burglary charges and then 20 days later
384. 20:31or no yeah 20 days after that they so
385. 20:35they're holding him for the burglary
386. 20:36charge is 20 days after that in a search
387. 20:39they find the keys and the underwear
388. 20:41underwear Russ and and then like two
389. 20:48weeks after that they charged him with
390. 20:50murder and then for two years they offer
391. 20:54him plea deals which to me says he
392. 20:58doesn't want to go to trial and for two
393. 21:03years he turns down all those plea deals
394. 21:05and I think he really uses his knowledge
395. 21:12of the law to kind of not get pushed
396. 21:16around by the plea deal so for two years
397. 21:18he doesn't take these plea deals and
398. 21:21they don't want to go to trial that to
399. 21:22me says the state has very little
400. 21:24evidence and it's a little weird that
401. 21:29there's no DNA evidence and then two
402. 21:33years later the FBI or somebody is able
403. 21:38to pull finally pull off some footage
404. 21:41that he had on a camera that he had
405. 21:44deleted was finally able to pull off the
406. 21:46deleted footage of him inside Lauren's
407. 21:52apartment
408. 21:54the night of the murder so we had gone
409. 21:57in there before she had gotten home and
410. 21:58just like recorded the door and recorded
411. 22:01like what her bedroom was like kind of
412. 22:05just planning and then once they finally
413. 22:08had that piece of evidence they
414. 22:09presented that to him then he took the
415. 22:13plea deal and part of the plea deal is
416. 22:16he had to write an allocution which i
417. 22:20had never heard before until this and so
418. 22:23part of the plea deal was like here's
419. 22:25the plea deal you get this this in this
420. 22:27I assume it's they took the death
421. 22:28penalty off the table but in return you
422. 22:32have to write a detailed allocution
423. 22:35which is just a detailed confession of
424. 22:38exactly what happened so we don't have
425. 22:40to barrel into the future not knowing
426. 22:42and I love that I wish they would do
427. 22:45that why not do that for Chris why not
428. 22:47always do that if you're gonna do a plea
429. 22:49deal and take the death penalty off the
430. 22:50table it's like tell us what happened we
431. 22:53need to know and so if you google
432. 22:56Stephen McDaniel allocution it's like
433. 23:00one pay single spaced page and I'm not
434. 23:04gonna read it but it just says how he
435. 23:06went in at 4 a.m. and strangled her and
436. 23:10then was kind of in just like a
437. 23:13delusional state afterwards where he
438. 23:16didn't really sleep and he sorta and I
439. 23:19don't know if I believe it but he said
440. 23:20he didn't even really know if he even
441. 23:22killed her like when he was helping her
442. 23:24friends search he was just in this such
443. 23:26a bizarre weird state and that he
444. 23:29doesn't know why he did it it's I think
445. 23:32he said it's beyond his reach to figure
446. 23:35out why but he just thinks it's
447. 23:36something with his the way he's wired
448. 23:40and he says that he's very sorry and he
449. 23:44wishes he would have taken it back and
450. 23:46Baba I think we got a true just weirdo
451. 23:50troll on our hands and I am very excited
452. 23:54to be done with him so I think that's
453. 23:57about it with Stephen McDaniel what a
454. 24:01guy what a vortex but we did it people
455. 24:05what a slog I'll
