0:02welcome back to true crime loser how's
0:05it going or good evening if that's what
0:08you're into either one okay so I'm not
0:13going to waste any time upfront I hope
0:15everyone's doing well thanks for being
0:17here today is the second video of my
0:20Steven McDaniels coverage the first
0:23video I kind of established a timeline
0:28and went over his behavior leading up to
0:32the murder this video is going to pick
0:35up right after the murder I'm kind of
0:38his behavior his attempts to get away
0:40with it and continuing the timeline if
0:45you need to be brought up to speed
0:47he has troll hair he enjoys long dark
0:54sessions on the internet talking to
0:57lonely guys and he likes violent rape
1:05porn he's into that and something I left
1:07out of yesterday's video that I forgot
1:09so if you are on the fence about him
1:11after yesterday's video
1:12they also found a bunch of child
1:15pornography on his computer and his
1:18lawyer in a video I think that came out
1:23this August said that in it was his 32
1:27years of being a lawyer and it was the
1:30worst child pornography collection did
1:34like anyone's ever seen or something so
1:37cool Steven just when you thought Steven
1:41couldn't get any cooler all right so
1:44let's just get into this so the murder I
1:49don't know something doesn't add up to
1:51me with this the timeline is weird the
1:56mistakes or just the lack of effort that
2:00Steven showed to hide evidence I don't
2:05know if Steven really was trying to get
2:07away with it it's crazy as that sounds
2:11alright but let's just get into it
2:13here are the things that Stephen had
2:17going for him if he wanted to have a
2:19chance to get away with this murder one
2:26there's no forced entry into the
2:28apartment as we all know he had a master
2:31key to the entire apartment building and
2:34a lot of people were asking how did he
2:36get that I have no idea but I would say
2:40that could have been something like the
2:44building maintenance man lent it to him
2:48for whatever reason if you live in an
2:50apartment complex for years the chances
2:54that you're gonna have to work with the
2:55maintenance people on a few projects are
2:58pretty high so maybe you know maybe
3:01something happened and they said here
3:04you know use this key to get into the
3:07maintenance closet you know while we're
3:09doing this or here you borrow this key
3:11while we're using this key and he ran
3:14and made a copy of it or maybe he stole
3:16it he saw like a chain of keys hanging
3:20up somewhere and he quickly stole it and
3:22when it made a copy and brought it back
3:24or something I think someone that thinks
3:27like Stephen you know it's got the troll
3:29hair I think this you know he's he's
3:34kind of into that type of stuff like
3:35being prepared or being ready and you
3:40know I could just see him figuring out a
3:42way to get that key that wasn't even
3:45that that wasn't even that crazy like I
3:49doubt that he like had to steal it from
3:52someone I bet somebody I actually ended
3:55up having a master key to my high school
3:57I kind of thought it would be cool to
4:00have one and the janitor
4:02we were like setting up for something
4:04with some club and he loaned it to me
4:06and we were like cool it's a master key
4:08let's go get it copied so we went and
4:10copied it real quick I never used it for
4:12anything other than being like I got a
4:14key baby whoa so my guess is it's just
4:19something like that all right so but no
4:21forced entry is huge and they didn't
4:27find the key they didn't find his key
4:31until six days after the murder so he
4:36had plenty of time to hide he took the
4:40key he didn't and this wasn't five days
4:43where he was they were being watched by
4:46police this was five full days where no
4:49one really knew she was missing for days
4:51I could at least where no one even knew
4:54she was missing that he could have
4:55gotten rid of a lot of this stuff which
4:58makes me believe that he either didn't
5:03want to get rid of it because he's no
5:05dummy you know he has his law degree
5:10pretty much he worked for prosecution so
5:14he's his mind is at least used to kinda
5:17used to thinking like that and to keep
5:21the key and to keep her key in his
5:24apartment doesn't make sense to me okay
5:28second thing he had going for him as far
5:31as to get away with this
5:32is when her friends came on June 29th so
5:36the murder happened on the 25th and then
5:39there was 26 27 28 where nothing really
5:42happened and then the 29th her friends
5:45came over I think around like 10:00 p.m.
5:49at night to look for she had a key in a
5:53flowerpot and so Stephen comes out and
5:56it's like hey what's going on and they
5:58were like you know Lauren's missing we
6:01gotta find her and so Stephen went into
6:04they had the key from the the planners
6:07box they went into her apartment to look
6:09for and Stephen went in with them like I
6:11said yesterday this is huge for Stephen
6:14because this puts him in the apartment
6:17in not on a legal way on the 29th
6:23so any hair any you know skin cells or
6:30whatever type of DNA they can just fall
6:32off your body that is now accounted for
6:35they can't say well your hair is there
6:39they can't really say that because
6:41it's like yeah I was in there and then
6:42they went down to the laundry room and
6:44to look for and they went all these
6:45places around to look for so you can't
6:47really say Steven why were you in the
6:50laundry room there's a bloody sheet in
6:52there he's like well I was looking for
6:53Lauren mm-hmm
6:55pretty good right third thing is the
6:59pulling on everything I watched the
7:01police seem to think they were lucky
7:04that the pub that the trash company
7:07didn't haul off the body
7:11Stephen wrapped all the parts of the
7:13body tightly in a bunch of trash bags
7:15and then just dumped them in the trash
7:18at the apartment complex which seems
7:21very sloppy to me and I think that's
7:24backed up with the point that the body
7:26was found so it didn't work but
7:29according to the police they were very
7:32close to not finding the body and if the
7:34trash picked it up it just would have
7:36been gone which it would have been a
7:37whole different ballgame for the trawl
7:40head if that would have been the case
7:43okay next just uh his law degree I put
7:48in the list of things going for him you
7:51know he quickly refused the polygraph
7:58just boom just refused it which like
8:02going back to a Chris Watts case why why
8:06would he agree to take that six-hour
8:08brutal nightmare and just get beat up by
8:14Tammy knowing that he lied like you just
8:17you might as well just say no no no I
8:19just I can't bear to do something like
8:21that so he refuses the polygraph and so
8:25now there's no forced entry
8:27there's he you know no saying even
8:33though they did it's funny is I don't
8:35think they had hair ever around the body
8:37turns out ironically enough the hair is
8:41not there Stephen I don't think he's
8:43just bluffing in the interrogation I
8:45don't think they had any really like DNA
8:48evidence so anyway there's no they can't
8:51can't pick up a piece of hair on her bed
8:54and say see
8:54even this is your hair cuz he was in
8:56there looking for they have the body but
8:59there doesn't seem to be any evidence
9:00connecting him to that he refuses the
9:06polygraph and there doesn't seem from
9:09everything that I've watched there
9:11doesn't seem to be any DNA evidence
9:13there doesn't seem to be any hair the
9:16hairs not there
9:17turns out there doesn't seem to be any
9:19other DNA at all which as we get into
9:23the court proceedings later on probably
9:26not in this video you'll see the state
9:29really does not want to go to trial they
9:33for two years they just offer him plea
9:36bargains which he turns down and then
9:38finally they find the video that was on
9:42a camera of inside heard of him snooping
9:45around in her apartment the night of the
9:50murder before it happened and then after
9:51that he took a plea deal which now he's
9:54trying to reverse and say his lawyers
9:57didn't represent him correctly but yeah
10:02I mean anyway so you could tell the
10:04state even though they had like all this
10:07stuff they had a key they into her
10:09apartment they had they still really
10:11didn't have the tightest case they
10:13didn't have a confession you know I
10:16don't know how many people met made it
10:18through the interrogation but his
10:23strategy in the Tara Gatien he wasn't
10:25really winning the exchanges where he
10:26sounds innocent to the point where
10:28they're like alright we got to leave
10:29this guy alone but he wasn't really
10:30losing them either his interrogation
10:34strategy just sort of nullified the
10:37interrogation it's like how showing that
10:41to a jury they're just like what are we
10:44watching he has troll hair that's all I
10:47can really gather which is pretty smart
10:51in a way I've never seen anyone take an
10:53interrogation that long and just turn it
10:56into absolutely nothing while still
11:00answering answering questions okay so
11:04those are the list of things that I
11:05think that Stephen
11:08had going for him I really think that
11:10Steven could have probably gotten off or
11:14not been charged with this if you would
11:16have just taken those five days and just
11:18got rid of everything in his apartment
11:21but he didn't which makes not that much
11:25sense to me okay so let's go over now
11:28the insanely bad mistakes or just the
11:32insanely strong reasons that against
11:39Steven sorry
11:42all right so he didn't get rid of the
11:44master key or the key to her apartment
11:47so they found that so his no forced
11:50entry just goes right out the window how
11:54do you not go and hide those keys I mean
11:59as little as just chucking them out the
12:03window as hard as you can but go on a
12:05walk and bury him right it seems like
12:08keys would be a hard easy thing to get
12:10rid of and all right second he had
12:17computers in his apartment that had
12:22records of him on weird dark websites
12:26talking about how he would kill his
12:29pretty neighbor so there's all of these
12:32like fantasy stuff that he's talked
12:34about on all these websites that they
12:35can pull up which is pretty damning
12:37evidence and also he had thumb drives
12:40with hundreds of pictures of Lauren on
12:44it that he had stolen from Lauren so
12:45that's in there that just looks like
12:47it's like in the movies when they go
12:49into the stalkers apartment and there's
12:52just pictures everywhere and like
12:54candles and they're like oh the modern
12:58version of that is all the pictures are
13:01on a thumb drive you know and you plug
13:03it in and it's like oh my god so we had
13:09a bunch of pictures of her and then
13:11here's where it just gets wonky in my
13:16opinion so they had the thumb drive and
13:17then they had him which we never get to
13:21see
13:22we had they have hint they say that he
13:24admitted to going into other apartments
13:28and burglarizing one condom from each
13:33apartment someone commented that he had
13:37like a bunch of different brands of
13:39condoms in his apartment and they
13:41pressed him on that and finally he came
13:43but how do you stand strong he sat there
13:47like this and didn't move for like four
13:50days all the pressure of going down for
13:57murder didn't get him to crack or to say
14:01anything and then he admits to stealing
14:06condoms and then that's enough for them
14:08to like take his DNA and to arrest them
14:11and hold them and and then they don't
14:15put that out we don't get to see that
14:16that to me it's like what what do you
14:21mean he just admitted to burglarizing
14:24condoms he sat there stone-cold and then
14:29as soon as we don't get to see he like
14:31spills the beans about burglary
14:33it just is weird to me and and so while
14:41he's arrested for like burglaring
14:43condoms they're desperately trying to
14:46put this case together and i think it
14:51gets a little weird too so they find the
14:54packaging for the saw that he used to
14:58dismember her in his bathroom but it's
15:03like they had searched his house so
15:05there they had searched his apartment so
15:07many times before this and he's the only
15:09suspect so you know they're going to you
15:16know they're gonna just tear his
15:17apartment apart and so to not find that
15:19they didn't find the saw packaging and
15:22her underwear until July 20th so to me
15:30and I don't know for sure but to me this
15:33is looking a little bit like
15:36the state didn't have enough evidence
15:38it's like they knew it was him they're
15:41positive it was him but they just didn't
15:44have enough evidence to go to trial so
15:46they're getting him to try to take a
15:47plea bargain you know and he's just
15:49holding tough because I think there's a
15:53possibility that Stephen just wanted
15:56just didn't want to live the adult life
15:57and was gonna be like a serial killer or
16:02a murderer like a stocking murderous
16:05weirdo and just sort of wanted to start
16:10that life and part of that I think he
16:12wanted to you know like being a court
16:17case and represent himself what I'm
16:20trying to say is I either think that the
16:23cops needed evidence and just put the
16:26saw packing in his bathroom and maybe
16:29like planted underwear in his apartment
16:32or they were just trying to give enough
16:34evidence to go to trial either there was
16:37a little bit of sketchy police work or
16:41Stephen just wanted to experience maybe
16:45he was so in love with Lauren that he
16:47wanted this to be a story you know he
16:50wanted to be caught murdering her and
16:52this was kind of like his creation as
16:55you could you could study this murder
16:57and you could study you know his court
17:00case and he's gonna probably represent
17:02himself it's kind of like a Ted Bundy
17:04type but the only thing that I can
17:08rationalize is he either wanted to sort
17:12of get caught because why not get in
17:14those four days why not get rid of your
17:16computer why not get rid of the keys why
17:19not get rid of the under underwear why
17:21not get rid of all that stuff it would
17:22take three hours of just putting it all
17:24in a backpack and then taking a long
17:27walk around town and just throwing it
17:29away with the timeline of like how they
17:35found the stuff a month later it's weird
17:38to me I mean let me know what you guys
17:40think it's it's a strange time to find
17:46that stuff almost a month later
17:50it's like you didn't find a pair of her
17:52underwear and the packaging for the saw
17:55that he used to cut her up the first
17:59mini searches it just seems crazy to me
18:06yeah okay so we're we're that's kind of
18:13gonna wrap up this video and so right
18:17before he goes in for the questioning
18:20where that we're gonna talk about where
18:22he sits like this and just has very
18:24short like robotic answers right before
18:31that he does a like I said yesterday
18:36just an unbelievable TV interview and
18:40I'm gonna talk about that tomorrow
18:42just when killers do TV interviews
18:46because I think there's different
18:48motives and different goals for kind of
18:52these different interviews and I think
18:55that Stephen like I said either just
18:57wanted this to be a part of his story
18:59this sort of made Lauren and Stephen
19:04attached forever in a way so I think he
19:08was so excited I guess that this all was
19:14happening and that he was kind of at the
19:15center of attention that he couldn't
19:17bear not go down there and talk to and
19:20talk to the the news and I think these
19:26days like if you're an experienced if
19:29you run a new station and your
19:31experience and you've been around for
19:33long enough I think you know that when
19:36you go down for a missing person or a
19:38murder if there's some little weirdo
19:40troll hair or some dad that doesn't seem
19:44like he's sad it's very smart to be like
19:48get that dude on get an interview with
19:51that dude with that guy with the troll
19:54hair what's he doing down here why is he
19:56roaming around the parking lot or why
19:57isn't his dad crying you know why does
19:59he kind of look happy like a chris watt
20:01situation
20:02and so it's smart to be like getting an
20:05interview of that because if it turns
20:06out to be the killer you have the
20:08footage that's gonna get all of those
20:10views you know for the rest of time as
20:13people like us are fascinated by it
20:15but yeah we'll start that tomorrow
20:21yeah like ice too every time thank you

20:33confusions with this part of it because
20:35like I said I can someone is smart is
20:39Steven with a prosecution type thinking
20:42mind it just really doesn't make sense
20:44that he left all of that evidence what
20:46do you guys think of finding almost the
20:49most damning evidence which wasn't
20:52hidden well like a month later and what
20:55do you guys think of him just bizarrely
20:57admitting to burglaring burglarizing
21:00other apartments for one continent white
21:02if he kept his mouth shut on burglaring
21:07the condoms I mean what would they have
21:10done I guess they would have found all
21:12that evidence at some point but I think
21:14they would have let have to let him go
21:15that night and then you know it turns
21:19out the hairs not there I don't know
21:23it's bizarre but okay so like I said
21:27tomorrow killers that do TV interviews
21:30we're gonna dive into the interviews and
21:32then the rest of the week will actually
21:36be analyzing the actual interrogation
21:39then we'll wrap it up so everyone thank
