1:18people are listening and if we go to my
1:20side everybody's always wondering what
1:21everybody else is doing okay but uh like
1:24we're talking about being busy and stuff
1:26we've been assigned a case that we've
1:27been looking at okay it's a new case and
1:30revealing the case there's some notes at
1:32to see as far as your name being
1:35mentioned okay do you know John

2:02we're very close friends I mean I mean
2:04what's this all about well it's
2:05regarding it's a case we're working on
2:07it evolves John and in there some of the
2:10statements we we reviewed uh you know
2:12there's notes and stuff that that he
2:14knew you and stuff oh yeah I mean we
2:16good friends um lived in the dorms for I
2:20lived in the dorms for 2 years um you
2:22guys lived in the same dorm yeah okay
2:25yeah D okay were you guys just friends
2:27or anything else or yeah we were we were
2:30good friends yeah was there any
2:32relationship or anything to develop
2:34between you guys yeah I mean we dated uh
2:37uhhuh you know um I mean is what is this
2:41all about well it's relating to uh his
2:45wife okay okay did you know her not
2:49really I mean I knew that he got married
2:51years ago uh-uh did you ever meet
2:53her God I don't know um do you know who
2:57she was or anything well I let me think
3:01God this been a long time ago
3:03um um I you know I may have met her um
3:09geez you know yeah uh well let me see
3:13let me ask you you said you you dated
3:15John how long did you guys
3:17dat I mean what are you guys is this
3:21something I mean you said I was going to
3:23interview somebody about art and how you
3:25guys are here's I mean Stephanie here's
3:28the situation is basically we you know
3:31we knew that this when we saw this in
3:33the in in this Chrono that maybe you
3:35know there was some relationship there
3:36that's what the Chrono seemed to
3:37indicate and we didn't want to come up
3:39to you at your desk and ask those kinds
3:41of questions or do anything you know how
3:43up there people can see what's going on
3:45if you go into an interview room or
3:46people are in there getting supplies so
3:48we we wanted to afford you some privacy
3:50some confidentiality to talk about this
3:52because we thought it might be you know
3:53something you know you're married to
3:54someone else obviously and so forth and
3:56that you may not want to you know talk
3:58about these things in that setting where
3:59someone you know we don't want the rumor
4:00mill or gossip or any of that kind of
4:02stuff to start that's fine I mean so we
4:04we did this just as as a means to try
4:05and speak to you just a confidential
4:07place where you you know where where
4:09your business isn't out there for other
4:11people you know your division you know
4:13God that's been a million years ago I
4:15mean you know
4:18um what year is it now 2009 I mean I
4:21graduated in 82 82 yeah
4:25um you know we dated um I dated other
4:29guys I'm sure he dated other girls
4:32um well let me ask you roughly how long
4:35would you would you say you guys dated
4:37oh jeez
4:39um I couldn't even say I mean I started
4:43school there in 78 I started UCL
4:471978 I graduated in '
4:4982 um I don't even remember what year he
4:53graduated if it was a year or two before
4:55me okay um I think he was a little bit
4:57older than I was I mean you know I can't
5:00remember if he was born let's say I born
5:01in 60 1960 I don't know if he was born
5:04in 58 or 59 I mean I you know um I mean
5:07I knew his parents I knew his sister his
5:09brother went to
5:11Northridge
5:12um um you know Sister spent the night at
5:16my house before obviously I spent the
5:18night at his house before he probably
5:20spent the night at my house before um
5:22you know I yeah I don't well correct me
5:26if I'm wrong cuz from what you're
5:28telling me is you guys dated while you
5:30were in college together right yeah and
5:32probably after college
5:34um I can't jeez um trying to think when
5:38I met my husband I met my husband in
5:41when did I meet Scott
5:43um let's see was teaching dare cuz I met
5:47Scott when I was teaching dare up in
5:48Oregon but we had long stopped you know
5:52dating before that so you haven't talked
5:55to him for a long time oh I I think I
5:57haven't talked to him in a long time um
5:59I could even tell you when the last time
6:00I talked to him um I met Scott I'm
6:03thinking in '92 maybe um April of '92 it
6:09was Scott being your husband yeah I'm
6:11trying to think I was teaching dare
6:14let's see what year is this this is will
6:16be married I got married in 1996 I think
6:19I met Scott 92 prior to that I couldn't
6:22tell you how long I had talked you know
6:24talked to John prior to that but since
6:27you since you met your husband Scott you
6:29talked to him I mean he may have called
6:32me uh once or twice before we got
6:36married right um you know gez I I lived
6:40I moved to SEI in 1994 because I lost my
6:44house in the earthquake oh um uh quite
6:47honestly I probably keep in contact with
6:50a few people from the dorms we we all we
6:53all lived on the 10th floor um and
6:58um there's
7:02about three or four people I keep in
7:04contact with there's probably like six
7:06or eight of us that were all really
7:07close and who are those people oh jeez
7:11um Diana
7:13Basta um people I still keep I I haven't
7:17been in contact with her in a long time
7:20um I mean you know what's what's I mean
7:23what's this all about I mean well let me
7:25ask you what ended the relationship
7:27between you and John
7:30you know I don't it was kind of a weird
7:32relationship I mean we we we dated um I
7:36can't say that he was my boyfriend I
7:38don't know that he would have considered
7:39me his girlfriend um we just we dated we
7:43did things I played Sports in college he
7:44played basketball his brother played
7:47basketball um we just you know it
7:52just didn't work out I mean I don't know
7:55what to tell you it was like I went out
7:56with other guys um saw other guys they
7:59went on lots of
8:00vacations um you know and and once you
8:04guys split were you guys still friends
8:06or kind of you know problems is it
8:10friendly not friendly no I don't think
8:12it was not friendly I mean we were
8:13friendly um uh I know that we went to
8:18Hawaii um at one point um another friend
8:22of mine who's actually dying right now
8:25uh was went to Hawaii with us um at some
8:28point um remember roughly when that was
8:31oh jeez
8:33um let me
8:35think H I'd have to check my pictures um
8:39or I'd say I'd ask Greg but my friend
8:41Greg is like dying of liver cancer right
8:43now um yeah I mean I you know and you
8:48were saying that um it's 2009 now had
8:51you ever met his
8:52wife I may have do you know do you
8:55remember her name or anything
8:57or um
9:02um or what she did for a living or where
9:05she worked or anything about her well I
9:08think she I I'm going to say I think she
9:09was a
9:10nurse
9:13um man I can't even remember how he he
9:15said he met her uh you I mean I I yeah I
9:18mean it's been so long ago well let me
9:20ask you did you go to their wedding you
9:22know no I didn't go to their wedding um
9:25no I don't did not go to their wedding
9:28um I couldn't even tell you what year he
9:30got married I mean you know it's it's
9:32been a million years ago you ever
9:33remember if you ever talked to her
9:34because it seems like a lot of you who
9:36were at at the school at UCLA you guys
9:38kind of were friends during and after
9:40school so I don't know if you guys still
9:42Associated afterwards once he was
9:44married or anything with him yeah no I
9:47don't think so I
9:50mean I would say you know the the people
9:54that were on the dorm floor we'd have
9:55we' have get
9:57togethers um there's probably like four
9:59or five I don't think he ever came um
10:03yeah I don't think no it was there was
10:05like it was mostly girls you know um
10:08girl named SMA Diane um there's there's
10:13two Dianes but the one Diane I don't
10:15think she ever came I kind of lost
10:17contact with her we were good friends on
10:19the floor um yeah I mean I don't you
10:22know again I I mean what you know I
10:26don't understand why you're talking
10:27about some guy dated a million years ago
10:29do you know what happened to his wife
10:31yeah I know she got
10:32killed what did you what did you hear
10:34about that I I saw a poster at work um
10:38I'm sure I spoke to him about it um I
10:42think I spoke to another friend of his
10:44about it um and how did how did you
10:47first learn about
10:48that
10:51jeez someone could have called me I
10:53could H it at work um I think at one
10:57point there may have been a flyer or
10:58something I know a good friend of his um
11:01were you on the job back then when that
11:02happened yeah I think so yeah I'm sure I
11:05was on the job that's why I would have
11:06heard about it with the flyer um he had
11:09a good friend Mike Mike boldrick

11:17um anyways a he may have lived in the
11:20dorms I don't remember if that's how I
11:22met him um I I may have talked to him I
11:25mean you know I don't remember how I
11:27heard I mean I don't even remember what
11:28year was and you think you you thought
11:31you said you thought his wife was a
11:32nurse do you have any idea where she was
11:33working at the time or did he ever
11:35mention that to you was it a hospital or
11:37a doctor's office I'm sure you must have
11:39mentioned it now now that you're
11:40bringing that up I think she worked at a
11:43hospital somewhere and yeah I may have
11:45met her at a hospital um I may have
11:48talked to her once or twice
11:50um at at a hospital or more um you know
11:54but being that you were kind of used to
11:57see uh John you know was it everything
12:00okay between you guys I mean there was
12:02never anything uncomfortable or anything
12:04between you and her
12:06um you know I don't know I mean it's God
12:09it's been so many years I
12:11mean uncomfortable I
12:15mean I can't even I can't even remember
12:18if we had a conversation I mean we may
12:20have I may have I may have seen her at
12:23his aart you know jezz how many years
12:26ago is that I don't even know what year
12:28she you know got killed where was his
12:30apartment on Rosco okay yeah Rosco and
12:34um
12:36um east or west of do uh either east or
12:40west of doodo do you know where he moved
12:43after did he move after he got married
12:44or do you know
12:49or I'm sure he did did you know where he
12:52was living
12:53or somewhere in the valley did you ever
12:57visit him and his wife no no never went
13:00out to you know get together dinners
13:03anything of that nature no no like I
13:06said his sister used to come over his
13:08sister had come to my place I knew I
13:11knew his brother cuz his brother played
13:13basketball at Northridge um in fact I
13:15was just coming across some pictures
13:17that I just
13:18scan uh scann from
13:21um I take a lot of photos um like 10,000
13:25and I just did a service where I scanned
13:28everything
13:29um and I'd seen some pictures of his
13:30brother playing basketball you put them
13:32all on your computer so you could have
13:33them accessible and do things with him
13:35well my partner is a big photo thing and
13:37he had a deal to scan so I spent a ton
13:41of time just scanning photos I mean I
13:43paid a company to do it mhm um so I've
13:46got photos of I mean his brother his
13:48sister you know 10,000 pictures oh yeah
13:51how long did that take him
13:54months now what do they do they put that
13:57on a I'm just curious myself they put on
13:59they get get all on one DVD they don't
14:01need like a hard drive or anything no no
14:02there's like I think 11 DVDs yeah I
14:06haven't even I don't even have time they
14:07it's it's a series of DVDs that they put
14:09them on oh yeah oh okay yeah I mean I
14:11got I'm not that familiar with computer
14:12stuff so that's why I was asking it's
14:13like 11 DVDs oh okay so you know um I
14:17haven't had a chance to go through them
14:19I I you could go through and pick which
14:21ones you don't want I don't have time to
14:23do that right you know so so like you
14:25said did I you know I I don't think we
14:27ever socialized um you know uh he'd
14:31still call me um I can't say that I
14:33would I mean if he's married I don't
14:35know that I would have called him I mean
14:36maybe who knows I you know I I don't
14:38know it's been a million years ago how
14:40long was John Mary before his wife died
14:43I couldn't I have no idea you have no
14:46idea and uh after his wife died did did
14:50you talk to him again or anything yeah I
14:53mean I did talk to him mhm I talked to
14:55him probably his parents um probably
14:59some other friends um you
15:02know I'm sure I talked to him yeah um
15:06but you you don't you're not sure where
15:08he moved to after he got married no idea
15:11I mean never went over to to visit him
15:13or I don't think I mean I don't think so
15:15I mean um I don't know I don't I mean I
15:19don't think I did um I mean I know he
15:22lived on Rosco for a long long time um
15:30I mean he I may know I mean he may have
15:31told me where they lived somewhere in
15:33the valley I mean he may have said he I
15:35lived over such and such but I I
15:37couldn't tell you specifically where but
15:39you don't remember specifically ever
15:41going over to visit him or visit them
15:43and where wherever he moved when he left
15:45Rosco I I I honestly I don't know I
15:47don't think so but okay you know I don't
15:50want to say no I don't think so and then
15:52he says oh yeah she came over for
15:54something drop something off you know
15:57I'm I don't know so if you did go over
15:59there just be like a a quick thing like
16:01like you're were saying drop something
16:03off or maybe um but you don't remember
16:06as far as like going there to have
16:08dinner or like a social anything at the
16:10house
16:11party well if you guys know something I
16:14I just I can't I don't know I don't
16:16think so I mean but after uh John's wife
16:21died and you said you may have been
16:23talking to him did uh your relationship
16:26start up again I would say no um again
16:32can you give me a year I mean this is
16:34like 2009 she died in 1986 yeah I think
16:38it's ' 86 1986 okay um like I said I'm
16:43I'm faintly remembering
16:46that um I went to
16:48Hawaii with my friend Greg Greg and I
16:50got certified for scuba
16:53diving um and I'm thinking that John met
16:56us there meaning Greg and I
17:00um that could have been I got
17:05certified toward the end of 88 or I mean
17:0920 yeah 88
17:1089
17:13um cuz I got recertified again and it
17:16had been like
17:17over 10 10 years so I got recertified my
17:21husband and I got
17:22recertified
17:24um and I'm pretty sure that John met us
17:28there
17:29um again I'd have to tell you what year
17:32it was I'd have to look at my pictures
17:34um you
17:36know um and other than that I can't even
17:39say he may have called me you know at my
17:42home um I may have called him um I don't
17:46think he got together with our group um
17:50I don't think after his wife's Des uh or
17:53even before I don't you know we went to
17:57weddings together you know
17:59did you I got pictures I like I said I
18:01couldn't tell you years it's been a
18:03million years ago after he after he got
18:07uh married or whatever were were you
18:08dating
18:09anybody in
18:12particular what year 1986 you said I
18:14think he got married in around 85 86
18:17something like that were you seeing
18:18anyone seriously or God I couldn't say
18:24um geez I'm trying to think I mean um
18:28you know I dated a fireman um what was
18:31his name Mike AR um and I'm trying to
18:35think was lfd or he was
18:37lfd um I'm trying to think when I went I
18:41probably met Mike I went to
18:44devire let's say I left Hollywood in 80
18:47I I worked Hollywood
18:4984 to 85 I think and then I went to
18:53devire and that's when I met Mike
18:56um and some other firemen
19:00and what the station next door no
19:02actually cuz I used to work Hollywood so
19:04I just wonder if it's the station no it
19:05was in when I worked devire I met Mike
19:08oh okay all right and I'm trying to
19:10think I went to devire in ' 85 and I'm
19:13thinking
19:15that I would have met him probably
19:17sometime shortly after I went to devire
19:20cuz I met him in his I actually met his
19:22buddies at a
19:24five um and then Mike and I dated
19:29you know just really kind of casually
19:33um and we remained very you mean we
19:36remain good friends um you still in
19:38touch with him or unfortunately he
19:40passed away oh really he died in a um he
19:43had a car crash um he did uh race cars
19:47and um he went heading into a
19:50wall I couldn't tell you what year that
19:53was um but he passed away he was in a
19:56coma and they pulled the the plug right
19:58seems like
19:59uh anyway um so you know I couldn't even
20:04tell you what what year I'm thinking I
20:07went to De 85 and I know I met the guys
20:09cuz I it was kind of a funny incident of
20:10how I met them and that's how I remember
20:13it was sometime probably 85 right um you
20:17know if specifically I don't even know
20:19if they'd remember the other two are now
20:21married to somebody else cuz I kind
20:23of all three I mean did you kind of
20:25socialize like when you were out with
20:27Mike did those guys come out with you
20:28too was it kind of like did you do stuff
20:30with his friends or well um there were
20:32three there was two firemen Eric and
20:34Gary um I met them first then they
20:37introduced me to Mike so that's how I
20:39met Mike and Mike dated M Mike and I
20:41dated MH so um and and not I wouldn't
20:45even say I couldn't even tell you for
20:46how long because then it say we decided
20:49you know wasn't working out and we'd be
20:51better friends and you know he
20:53introduced me I think to some other guy
20:56on that who now is on LAPD
20:59um uh Randy
21:04cordobas um I don't think he a detective
21:07he's got a twin brother who's on the
21:08fire department that's how I met
21:10Randy um because he had a twin brother
21:14identical twin on the fire department
21:16okay um and you I dated him when I
21:21couldn't tell you it was before he came
21:23on the job oh before Randy came on the
21:26job yeah oh okay and that was
21:29um I I'm God I'm trying to remember if
21:33Mike Mike may
21:36have I'm trying to remember Mike may
21:40have dated
21:41um a girl that he
21:44dated God it sounds too weird um Randy
21:49may have dated a gal that Mike was
21:52dating and that and then Mike Randy
21:55broke up with that gal I couldn't even
21:57tell you the gal's name
21:59if I'm even thinking of the story right
22:00and then I started dating Randy
22:03yeah I you know so again I mean not like
22:08I was a huge Floy or anything but no but
22:10you know I mean a lot of times right at
22:13least from my female partners that I've
22:15had you know it's hard dating guys that
22:17aren't involved in kind of our Circle
22:19right because some a lot some guys are
22:20intimidated by you know women police off
22:23yeah Randy was like an engineer at the
22:25time uh he was like a some kind of an
22:27engineer on a trck on a rig on a fire
22:29truck no no um an engineer um oh
22:31professional engineer and I think he
22:33lost a job and then came on on the
22:35department I see so um the getting back
22:38on and stuff as far as you recall after
22:41John's wife
22:43I did you start a relationship again
22:46with with John or dating casually or
22:49anything like that like I
22:52said he met Greg and I in Hawaii okay um
22:59that was something you guys kind of
23:00plann together like go as a group or you
23:03ran into him or no I I think that
23:06obviously I must have talked to him and
23:08I said hey I'm going to Hawaii with my
23:11buddy Greg we we're SC we're sco we just
23:14got certified scuba diving um uh we're
23:17going to be in Hawaii hey if you want to
23:19come and join us come join us right and
23:21I I think that's what it was um I I may
23:25have asked some other people to as well
23:27um you know uh what island did we go
23:32to I think the big island in Kawai he
23:36either met us on the big island or Kawai
23:37I'm thinking of SC Greg and I might have
23:41scuba dived a lot in on the big island
23:44as well as Kawai I'm I I don't remember
23:46which island again I'd have to look at
23:48my pictures um I traveled a lot um on my
23:52vacations I mean I was always gone for
23:54at least a month um and I would go
23:57places and I would either run into
23:59people or you know you know meet people
24:03um and Greg this Greg were talking about
24:07he
24:08was like someone you were dating or just
24:11a buddy or no you know what I would I
24:13would say we started out um probably
24:17just buddies um and either I was with
24:21somebody or he was with somebody but was
24:23all we it was kind of like we ended up
24:25just kind of being like brother and
24:26sister um
24:28and maybe he wanted something more but
24:30um you know it just it never you know
24:34worked out but we we we did things
24:36together um you know I consider them
24:39I've probably known
24:41them let's see I've been on the job
24:43almost 26 years I've probably known GRE
24:4623 24 years um he still talk to him oh
24:50yeah he's dying of liver cancer right
24:52now yeah sorry yeah so um so you know I
24:57I consider him a good friend and um you
25:00know
25:03um you know I don't know what to tell
25:05you on that um I mean when when you
25:07heard about uh John's wife being killed
25:10I mean what was your what was your
25:12reaction I mean you thought you heard
25:14about it what through a friend or in a
25:16bulletin or something either a friend or
25:17a bulletin um I obviously I mean I
25:19called I called the family um I called
25:23maybe some of his friends that that that
25:24I knew and I mean obviously it shocked
25:26you if you're if I heard it at work you
25:28know um which I may have I I faintly
25:30remember a bulletin going around um
25:34either that or somebody called me I I I
25:36also don't remember um uh and then I
25:39called probably called his family um
25:42called uh I don't initially I can't say
25:47if I initially spoke to him or not I
25:49honestly don't remember I may have said
25:51to somebody hey have him call me if he
25:53wants to talk and then he may have done
25:56that uhuh um you know
26:00um do you know what the circumstances
26:02were regarding her
26:06death geez let me think back um gez I
26:13don't know if it was you know if it was
26:15a burglary or something uh yeah it's I
26:18mean it's been so many years I I mean I
26:20can faintly think that I may have saw a
26:22flyer yeah uh may have had her picture
26:24on it you know um I may that's why say
26:28if somebody had called me I may not have
26:31known what her last name was I may have
26:34I mean maybe if you told me I would
26:35remember it um do you remember the first
26:38name Shelly um
26:42Sherry I don't know something maybe you
26:45know um like I said it's been so many
26:47years and um from all the years as far
26:50as you can remember you don't do you
26:53remember ever talking to her just well
26:55she I said earlier you know I I mean
26:59I may have you know I may have talked to
27:01her um I it sound I you know you
27:05mentioned a hospital maybe you may have
27:07talked her at a
27:08hospital yeah um yeah I may have you
27:12know I'm thinking back now you guys are
27:14bringing up all these whole memories no
27:16it kind of dust off the c i me jeez
27:21um I'm thinking
27:24that because I mean we would date he
27:26would date other people I would date
27:28other people and I think you
27:32know at one point I mean he may have
27:35been dating her or I don't know maybe he
27:38was married I don't even remember and
27:40I'm like you know what why are you
27:42calling me if you're either dating her
27:45or living with her or married to her I
27:46CU I honestly don't remember the time
27:47frame um and I'm like come on knock it
27:49off and I'm and now I'm thinking I I may
27:52have gone to her and say hey you know
27:53what you know what is he dating you he's
27:56he's bothering me um and so I'm thinking
27:59that we had a conversation about that um
28:02one or two maybe I you know it could
28:06have been three I don't want to say I
28:07had three conversations with her like
28:09like at her work or at their at their
28:11house or no I'm thinking that I you know
28:14he obviously must have told me where she
28:16worked I'm thinking it was a hospital
28:18somewhere in LA and I just I mean I
28:22could have been again what year was that
28:24where was I working um
28:33you know I don't I don't I'm trying to
28:34think of
28:35where when did you say they got
28:37married I don't know I think it was like
28:40in ' 85 or ' 86 or something like that I
28:44you know we we we we just kind of picked
28:46this up we don't you know we don't know
28:47a lot about
28:55it4 I mean I could have been working in
28:57Hollywood it sounds sounds like if if
28:58that's where I was
29:00working um so I could have said okay
29:02well you know and I went and talk to her
29:05um and just said hey you know what you
29:07know if he's dating you he's he's keeps
29:10calling me why don't you tell him to
29:12knock it off or whatever and you know
29:14because I probably would have told him
29:15to knock it off you would have told John
29:17oh yeah I mean I would have said hey you
29:19know and again but you wanted to tell
29:22her too you wanted them both to know
29:24yeah I mean you know if you get you're
29:26getting her called and I'm try I'm
29:28faintly remembering uh when Scott moved
29:32in with me in
29:341993 sometime in '93 cuz I met Scott in
29:39in in April of '92 I was teaching dare
29:41up in Oregon M um
29:46and um he moved down in fact he may have
29:51moved down in ' 92 ' 92 or '93 there was
29:54the big earthquake no when was the big
29:56earthquake no '94 94
30:00yeah I think Scott might moved into '93
30:04sometime in
30:05'93 excuse me um I haven't had my
30:09breakfast yet um and
30:12so um excuse me um and so I faintly
30:18recall that John may have called a few
30:20times and I'm like hey you know I've got
30:23he goes can you I like you can you talk
30:25or something I'm like you know no I
30:26can't talk I've got you know I'm living
30:28with somebody right you know and then
30:30that could have been a few times it
30:31could have been once could have been
30:32twice could have been three times I
30:34don't know you know um that's During the
30:36period of time of the earthquake that
30:38you're no probably probably after Scott
30:40moved in I think I met Scott in April of
30:4292 oh okay right before April of 92
30:46because I was I I stopped teaching
30:53dare I think I stopped teaching deer
30:55sometime in ' 92 mhm um
30:59um and when you and when you say that
31:01you may have um you know that you talked
31:04to his wife said hey or you know I don't
31:07know if it was I guess it wasn't his
31:08wife at that time girlfriend or whatever
31:09and yeah I don't know if it was his wife
31:10or his I I I mean quite honestly I don't
31:12even remember when you said like hey you
31:14know he's calling me he needs to knock
31:15it off or what have you I mean was that
31:17was that civil was there I mean oh yeah
31:18no there was not I don't think there was
31:20anything it was if the conversation
31:22lasted a few minutes so I can't even
31:24remember and what is it like you know we
31:25went out to lunch or anything right but
31:26there was no like argument or fight
31:29didn't get heated or anything like that
31:31not that I recall no I mean I would
31:33think that would stand out I would think
31:35now again that's not standing out in my
31:37mind
31:38um you
31:41know so you didn't have any problems
31:43with her then you didn't have any issues
31:45with her no I mean but let me let me ask
31:47you seems like you didn't have any issue
31:50now did she have an issue with you as
31:52far as because now you're telling her
31:54hey you know hel to stop calling now you
31:56know she's like hey you know you figur
31:58she'd be threatened by you you know I I
32:02don't know I mean from what you remember
32:04as far as when you talked to her maybe
32:06you didn't take it as serious but maybe
32:08you know did she she was Bugg mean like
32:10was she throwing things at me or
32:11something or well no just you know as
32:13far as you're trying to explain like hey
32:15hav't stop calling me you know stop
32:17playing games you know I I tell
32:19you if the conversation I couldn't even
32:21tell you how long the conversation if
32:23you said did it last a half an hour did
32:24it last 3 minutes did it last 20 minutes
32:27I can't even remember it's been so long
32:29ago you know um you just remember
32:31talking to her telling her and that's
32:33why you said how many times you talk to
32:34her I don't know how many times I talked
32:35to her maybe it was once maybe it was
32:37twice maybe it was three times you know
32:39I I honestly don't know um I I don't
32:41know what year it was um if you if he
32:45said I met her in such and such year I'd
32:47go okay well I don't even know what year
32:49you met her um I graduated from you in
32:531982 okay I graduated in ' 82 like I
32:57said I don't know if he graduated I know
32:59he was a little older than I was so I
33:02don't know if he graduated a year before
33:03or two years before because people are
33:05on different um either on the four-year
33:08program or the 5year program um what
33:10year did you come on the job
33:1383 oh so almost pretty much immediately
33:15after you got out of
33:17school yeah I worked at a law firm for a
33:20year um and then came on the job but
33:24anyway in regards to seeing him not
33:26seeing him we went to friends weddings
33:29that were you know uh from
33:32UCLA um I may have gone to some of his
33:34friends weddings from where he worked um
33:37he may have gone to things with me you
33:40know
33:42um you know I mean I I don't know how
33:45many times we went to do things you know
33:47or didn't do things right like I said
33:50his
33:51sister um um I know his sister uh his
33:56brother his sister I know at my
33:59townhouse a number of times I couldn't
34:01tell you how many times right um I would
34:04watch his brother you know shoot uh take
34:07pictures at a basketball game or two
34:09where was your townhouse at in Granada
34:12Hills um below the Odyssey I don't know
34:16oh I'm sorry the 405 and the five um the
34:19405 the the 405 turns into the five to
34:22118 um they they came down in the
34:24earthquake okay so okay and you're
34:28saying when you went to see her do you
34:32would you remember if it was at her
34:33house or at the place she worked
34:37at no I'm thinking that I'm thinking
34:39that it was
34:41probably for some reason I want to say
34:43that the hospital seemed that you know
34:46if you say he got married in 85 or
34:49something I'm thinking that you know
34:51maybe the hospital was on my way to work
34:53in Hollywood I mean that's kind of
34:56sounding familiar
34:58um would you have gone on duty oh no I'm
35:02I'm sure I wouldn't have I no I'm I'm
35:04pretty good about not doing stuff you
35:06know I mean I'm not saying that you know
35:08you haven't done stuff on duty but I I I
35:11would have I mean I would have been
35:12working with somebody oh yeah you know
35:15so I wouldn't I wouldn't think I mean I
35:17try to avoid doing stuff on duty so so
35:20you would have gone it was in route to
35:23work you more than likely you would have
35:24gone to her work and had this discussion
35:26with her I mean sounding familiar I mean
35:29that's now that you guys are bringing
35:30the stuff up um I mean it sound that
35:33sounds familiar um but again I mean you
35:37know what's I mean what's this got to do
35:39with me dating him and you know her
35:41getting killed I mean I I don't you know
35:44I don't have anything to do with it and
35:46you got something that's somebody said
35:48you know whatever I mean well like we
35:50said we we just literally got this the
35:52other day and and you're going through
35:54it yeah and you see you saw me say
35:56Nick's Next Door right and and so you
35:58know I mean obviously it's like we
35:59recognize the name we know you know you
36:01work next door to us and so we're trying
36:03to get some background we're trying to
36:04figure this out I mean this is from a
36:05long time ago I know you know and things
36:08have been kind of slow for us and so you
36:10know Chief Beck has said hey you know I
36:11want you guys working I don't want you
36:13just sitting around reading the paper
36:14yeah so he's kind of pushing some older
36:16cases out even to the guys that work
36:17Active cases because you know and so we
36:19see this and we're just like oh you know
36:21we want to talk to you about it but of
36:22course the only reason we did it here is
36:24because we're getting into some pretty
36:25personal stuff in your relationship
36:27on the job we don't want to take the
36:30risk we don't want to take the risk we
36:31in one of those interview rooms and even
36:32when the door closed someone's going to
36:33get supplies and see us on a monitor
36:35hears or whatever I appreciate it I mean
36:37I appreciate like I said that's where
36:38people go when there's orals you know
36:39when they're doing orals guys will go in
36:40there and try and watch like what are
36:41the answers to the questions you know I
36:43didn't know that yeah so so we just we
36:44just want to afford you the most privacy
36:46and confidentiality we could no I
36:48appreciate like I said I mean this goes
36:50way back and I mean it was very sad you
36:53know obviously
36:55um I I haven't I you know I when we were
36:59in college some of us would go down to
37:01his house in San Diego I went down to
37:03his house with him you know um with with
37:06him I know I I'm trying to think of some
37:08other people that may have gone down is
37:10that where he grew up is down there yeah
37:11down in San Diego oh okay um I know his
37:13dad's was a professor at San Diego State
37:16I don't know if he still is um I don't
37:19know what happened to his sister don't
37:21know what happened to his brother um you
37:24know I'm sure his dad's probably retired
37:26by now he was I think older um even back
37:31then right um and I I can't even tell
37:35you the last time I had any contact with
37:37any of them it's been so long did he
37:39tell you what happened like what he
37:40heard from the detectives or the police
37:43or you know what he may have
37:47um for some reason I'm thinking that I
37:51mean again this is like
37:58drugs or something I mean I think I
38:00faintly remember him mentioning
38:03something maybe about
38:05cocaine um that she was involved with
38:08that you know I don't know that he said
38:10she was involved or they thought she you
38:12know again it's been so long I you know
38:15he could have mentioned he could have
38:17told me the whole story of what happened
38:19and I mean like I said I'm faintly
38:21remember even between him or the flyer
38:24um that there was some kind of a
38:26burglary
38:29um you know let me ask you did the
38:32detectives ever reach out to you ever no
38:35no one's ever talked to me I don't think
38:36anybody ever talked to me about about
38:38him um it seems like back then well I I
38:43take I'm thinking that I did talk to a
38:47detective um
38:50god well what division was it in Van
38:54eyes H and and where was I
38:59working um
39:011986 I would have been working in
39:05devire you know I'm thinking that I did
39:08speak to somebody oh really I couldn't
39:10tell you who it was cuz it doesn't it
39:13doesn't probably on the phone um would
39:17have been somebody in regards to this or
39:19just yeah uhhuh yeah
39:22um I don't even know if you said a name
39:24if I would remember it because I worked
39:26van I for a while oh you did yeah I
39:29worked um detectives Patrol no I worked
39:31detectives um when did I go to Van
39:36eyes I worked devire till 88 then I went
39:40to D till
39:42'92 I worked twice at Van eyes um both
39:46as detective
39:51yeah sometime in the '90s um
39:58yeah I I know before I busted my leg up
40:01I was there in '98 cuz that year sticks
40:04out because I had a really bad leg
40:06injury
40:07um and I was there prior to that but I
40:10couldn't tell you what year it was just
40:12a few years I made detective I think in
40:1693
40:1893 so um I was at Van eyes and then I
40:23went back and then I had a leg injury
40:24and then they transferred me to deire
40:26cuz I couldn't drive mhm I couldn't
40:28drive very far with the my bad leg
40:30injury so um but yeah I I I think I
40:34talked to somebody um remember would you
40:38remember any of the conversation as far
40:40as what they were looking
40:42for couldn't say I mean they may have
40:45told me I said hey you know I went to
40:47school with him um I either they either
40:50somebody called me or I saw the fly I
40:52may have seen the flyer at that point
40:55and I called up if if someone's name was
40:56on the I may have call to speak to them
40:59I said hey if there's anything I can do
41:01you know um call me this is where I work
41:04you know I went to uh you know uh school
41:07with them
41:10um couldn't say I couldn't tell you who
41:12it
41:13was but you do remember that that
41:15someone you think reached out to
41:17you you mean a detective yeah called you
41:20up and talk to you or I called them one
41:23of the two yeah I you know I I remember
41:26talking somebody
41:28but I'm thinking it was a
41:31man I'm sure there's probably more men
41:33back
41:35then um so again that's I mean that's
41:40really all I can remember about that
41:43yeah let me get back uh to as far as
41:47when you said that uh John was calling
41:50you to to see you and during that time
41:53you felt that he was was felt he was
41:55either seeing her or was he engaged AED
41:57or married did you know could say
42:00remember you know I don't know uhuh um
42:04you ever well let's see my husband did
42:06it ever appear no no that would have
42:07been Scott moved in
42:10'93 so that would have been you said '
42:1286 or 85 or something Scott your only
42:14husband you've never been married no
42:16never been marri I got married in I
42:18think 96 well I know I got married in
42:20'96 but he moved in in 93 mhm but uh
42:25during that time that you were seeing on
42:28uh you know was he acting kind of you
42:30know kind of squirrly or kind of
42:31sneaking around when he'd hook up with
42:33you or anything like that to make you
42:36think hey you yeah this guy it probably
42:37was I
42:38mean I mean cuz from the impression I
42:40get is you've known him a long time well
42:43let's see from what early I met him in
42:4578 no I I met him in school I started
42:47UCLA in 78 um so you know him
42:51well during that period of time yeah I
42:54mean was he acting sruly
42:58you know I don't even remember where he
43:00was living then you know I well after I
43:04don't know well let me ask you after he
43:06hooked up with uh mean if he was living
43:08on Rosco or wherever else he was living
43:10right well after he hooked up with uh
43:13with Sherry do you know uh where they
43:16were living no you asked me that already
43:19uhhuh and I said well obviously they
43:20were living in Van eyes division
43:22yeah
43:24um I may have known I mean I you know
43:27again I you know did he ever give me the
43:30address maybe you know I don't remember
43:34I mean I don't
43:35know yeah cuz the reason I'm asking you
43:37again is because as we've been talking I
43:39know some stuff has come to you because
43:40you're like oh see you know so that's
43:44why I'm asking if you ever been to the
43:45house and when you said van eyes
43:48division you know I'm
43:54just I'm sure he could have told me I
43:56mean he could have told me he could have
43:57told me where he lived
44:01um did you ever gone there I don't think
44:05I've ever gone there that's what I'm
44:06saying I don't I don't want to say no
44:08I've never gone there and then you say
44:10oh I was at a party cuz I I I don't you
44:13know I don't think so yeah um like I
44:16said we've got these friends we have
44:18different we have
44:19parties um my house their house I I just
44:24don't think John ever came to
44:27again you know at one point because we
44:30we knew people from school together I
44:33knew different people he knew different
44:34people I knew people that he knew from
44:36his work um you know that lived in the
44:40valley
44:41um you
44:43know so as far as for social events or
44:46anything I mean
44:48it's I mean you're not sure if you ever
44:50been to the house
44:55cuz but it's sa to say that would have
44:57been the only time like for something
45:00social yeah if I went there for
45:02something social yeah I mean because I
45:04know you you went to talk to her at at
45:07the hospital uh regarding this issue
45:10with John to you know kind of like hey
45:13you know what's going to happen here
45:14with this thing but would this ever have
45:16followed up to her house when you went
45:18to talk to her to say hey you know what
45:20I I don't even know that I knew where
45:22they lived I you know that's what I'm
45:24saying I don't if I knew where they
45:26lived and I been there if it was for
45:28something social I I would I'm I'm and I
45:31can't see how many times I I saw her
45:33face to face you know he lived on Rosco
45:35did I ever see her there I don't know I
45:38mean I may have seen her this apartment
45:40on Rosco mhm I may have met her
45:44there you know I I mean but you didn't
45:48have any issues with her right no I mean
45:51you know obviously if he was dating me
45:53and dating her I probably said hey pick
45:55or something you know
45:57you know back then
45:59um I can't say that we ever screamed or
46:03yeah you know it's I mean he was a
46:05pretty mellow guy you know um I think I
46:09was pretty mellow I I don't I don't
46:11think we had some big huge blow up to
46:13say you know why we stop dating or you
46:16know and I even think that when I was
46:18dating him I was probably like I said I
46:20was probably going out with other guys
46:22and he was probably going out with other
46:24girls you know I don't know I mean would
46:26you you remember if she snapped on you
46:29and just like hey man it's my man you
46:30know you get leave him alone you know
46:32blah blah blah that kind of stuff you
46:35know and would you remember an incident
46:37like that I mean cuz that would be like
46:39what well you know and maybe that
46:41happened I
46:43mean gosh I you know it's been so long
46:47ago I you know I just I mean that's not
46:50ringing a bell MH um because the times
46:53I've seen you around in our office I'm
46:55crazy you know but you're always kind of
46:57like
46:58real I mean you seem kind of bubbly oh
47:00I'm people think I'm really hyper um but
47:04I can I mean I can get I can get upset
47:07you know and and and then I forget 5
47:09seconds later you know you know how guys
47:11rash you and you go ah you know um I
47:15mean I've done that in the office you
47:16know but it's like and then I'm you know
47:19and then I'm you know you know I mean
47:22people under the bridge yeah I mean it's
47:24like people think I'm crazy and then
47:25they think I'm crazy home and I'm you
47:27know more I'm I'm a hyper person at work
47:30I'm you know I I enjoy my job I get
47:32excited I you know um I I enjoy the job
47:37I've always enjoyed the job um well you
47:39got a good gig so you know um so you
47:43know I you know I don't know it's like
47:46like I said this stuff's been so long
47:48ago um you know I'm sure as soon as I
47:51walk out here I'll go oh shoot I did 25
47:53things I'll remember um you know but
47:56she'll call it or I mean you'll just
47:57come over our desk and tell us I mean I
47:59don't know what else you need to know
48:00like I said you know we we knew friends
48:03together a lot of the friends that you
48:05know that we socialized in the dorms I
48:08would say I mean there was a group of us
48:11that um we were all really close I mean
48:14even this one guy I was thinking of you
48:15know um Diana Basta we were all really
48:18close I haven't talked to her in a
48:20million years um di Basta being a friend
48:23of you and John's or yeah we all lived
48:25on the dorms on the dorms together I
48:28don't know if she lived on the same we
48:29I'm trying to think I think I know John
48:31lived on our Flor because his roommate
48:33was Dave Newman Dave Newman now is a big
48:36huge big shot whatever movie producer
48:40director something I don't know um and I
48:42was John's roommate yeah and then the
48:44guys that lived across from me um Jim
48:47jasal and
48:49Roy sakao sakao something like that um
48:53they lived across from me um Diana Bass
48:58I don't know if she lived on our floor
49:00maybe she was the
49:02ra um Diane
49:05shman um because I still remain friends
49:07with Diane
49:08Sherman um not that I'm not friends with
49:10the other people I just don't see them
49:12um a g named
49:15Smita um
49:19Sally Kathleen you know so we we were
49:22all on the floor I mean some of them
49:24were athletes some of them weren't you
49:26you know I said John played basketball
49:28his brother played basketball I played
49:29basketball at UCLA for 2 years um one of
49:32the girls swam on the team one was on
49:34the crew team so we all did stuff
49:35together um and then I'd say after we
49:38all graduated um we went to weddings you
49:40know I went to weddings um um but Sher
49:45wasn't part of this circle no I don't
49:48even know how he how he met her I don't
49:50even know where I mean I don't know
49:51where he met her from I don't even know
49:53he told me where he met her from I mean
49:54he may have told me I know that's not
49:57ringing a bell um and there was lots I
50:01mean you know there's
50:02just there was other people that knew
50:04other people um you know that were
50:07friends of
50:08everybody's
50:10um you
50:12know um I mean I don't know what else to
50:14tell you well one of the concerns I had
50:16is looking at some of the notes is uh
50:19some of sher's friends said that you and
50:22her were having a
50:23problem because of the John situation
50:30well number one I don't know who her
50:32friends are um cuz again I don't I don't
50:36recall if he did tell me where he met
50:38her I don't know even who these friends
50:41are a problem like iess said if I spoke
50:44to her I mean I'll go on as far in as a
50:47limb and I don't even want to say I
50:48spoke to her five times CU that's
50:50probably not even true I I I can't even
50:53remember um again did I meet him at play
50:57when he you know he lived on Rosco for I
50:58think quite a while but I couldn't tell
51:01you how long he lived on Rosco and the
51:02only reason I remember the place now is
51:04because it's like a huge dope dope place
51:06now where they you know it may have been
51:08back then but you know maybe we have
51:11know back then um I could have met her
51:14there I could have you
51:16know you know I don't even know that I
51:19met any of their friends I you I don't I
51:24I I can't say that I don't know that
51:25that's a true statement
51:27well that's what I'm reading is that you
51:29guys had problems with each other and
51:30words are being exchanged and it's all
51:32relating to
51:35John you know what I I I I I just I
51:39can't say you can't say no I that
51:41doesn't even ring a bell I mean I mean
51:43it seemed like yeah you would recall
51:45something if somebody's going off on you
51:47right I would think I mean I would think
51:50I would think yeah because it's but
51:53that's I you know cuz it seems like your
51:55relationship with John
51:57was kind
51:58of I mean you've known each other for a
52:01lot of years yeah it was just kind of it
52:03was
52:05like but it doesn't seem to me from what
52:07you're telling me I mean we were never
52:08engaged I mean it wasn't like we were
52:10planning to get married um you know it
52:13was like it it
52:15was I don't know how to describe it I
52:18mean would you say there wasn't a lot of
52:20drama in this relationship oh no I don't
52:22think there was drama okay yeah I mean
52:25that's why I'm asking as far as what the
52:26friend friends are saying in regards to
52:29this you know the problems they're
52:30saying you were having with with
52:32Sher I mean it seems like the
52:34relationship is just going on an even
52:36plain that just I I that I don't have
52:39the recollection of that at all no no
52:41and cuz from what you're telling me is
52:43when you guys met at the
52:45hospital uh I mean you guys talked but
52:47it wasn't from what you recall
52:49confrontational so from either side no I
52:53I mean I'm trying to you know turn my
52:55memory back you know and I'm trying I
52:58can't even I can't even picture the you
53:01know picture the the conversation I mean
53:03I can't even picture the conversation
53:05well let me ask you I mean at the
53:05hospital it never got to the point where
53:07people are going hey hey you know go to
53:09everybody go to your own Corner type of
53:11thing I don't think so nothing like that
53:13I don't think so I mean I really don't I
53:15mean if you you know if you say people
53:17said that that's not ringing a bell to
53:19me at all I mean it's not I mean that
53:21that's not ringing a bell was there was
53:23there ever a time when you and Sher were
53:25talking and have to maybe like get you
53:27guys relax you know or anything like
53:30that think
53:32so about you know ever going to her
53:35house and having a dispute like
53:37that you know I'm
53:40just if I met her ever at his apartment
53:44maybe I mean we could have met I could
53:46have met at her apartment I'm thinking
53:48that the hospital thing that sounds
53:51familiar that I I met her
53:55there I just can't say that I've ever
53:58again was I there with other people I
54:01don't I I I don't know um I don't think
54:04I ever met her there or him there um
54:08meaning one or the other I don't think
54:11so I I just I can't I don't think so CU
54:16I mean I know the way my wife is at our
54:18house she wouldn't want my own
54:19girlfriend's there you know so I don't
54:21know if maybe she had the same mentality
54:23towards you if as far as you ever there
54:27being welcome there you know cuz it's
54:29you know what if somebody said I was
54:31there when they were there then that's
54:32possible but I just I I don't recall I
54:36mean I don't think so I don't I it's not
54:38sounding familiar yeah cuz I guess
54:41basically what I'm asking is you know
54:42where you ever welcome to the house like
54:43you know hey oh come over yeah come on
54:45over having a barbecue you
54:48know a dinner party Christmas party or
54:51whatever I don't know I'm just trying to
54:54think
54:57you know like I said because there was
54:59so many of us that the two Dian U Jim
55:03jasal Roy um SM this scal SMA another
55:07friend of ours Beth I she pass it seems
55:11like everybody I know pass is passing
55:12away um she passed away she was a child
55:15diabetic and and got very ill um we
55:19would all socialize um like I said I
55:21don't think John ever it's hard I don't
55:24want to say he never socialized with us
55:28um you know it it's been I I'd have to
55:31go almost go back and look at pictures
55:32because I take pictures I mean I usually
55:35when I have I go to functions I have
55:3710,000 pictures okay I'm a picture

55:46his car you go in her you know your car
55:49things of that nature when you guys
55:50would go
55:52out well yeah I mean do you remember
55:54what he what he drove
55:58well I know at one time he drove either

56:02260Z any other cars that stand out in
56:04your

56:21reason I say that is cuz I
56:23think I may have a picture of it um
56:26with him in it
56:29um what kind of car did you have back
56:32then let's see what year or are you like
56:36one of those young cops that like oh I
56:37got a paycheck and bought a new car no
56:39no no I've only had like a few cars in
56:41my whole life so what' you have when you
56:42came on the job
56:46M okay well my first car was a 68
56:51chel 68
56:54chel and then I had
56:58a
57:03Toyota some kind of a Toyota mhm
57:07um hatchback but I forget what the name
57:09of it was um like a Corolla or Tel or
57:14Tel something like that Tel and then I
57:17had my truck do you ever have any
57:19problems with your
57:22cars like what just anything in general
57:26car wrecks anything stolen no my car has
57:29never been stolen oh no crashed hit and
57:33run
57:37um um hit I mean my tcel was hit and run
57:41again I got I got pictures of the hit
57:43and runs um and I don't think any of my
57:45cars had ever been stolen no my cars
57:48haven't been
57:50stolen broken
57:53into um none of that huh oh yeah yeah
57:56they my cars have been broken
57:58into
58:00um you know but no cars have ever been
58:03stolen
58:07mhm how long well when tell me about
58:09this uh car getting broken into well my
58:12car has been broken into several times
58:14oh
58:15really did you ever lose anything
58:18or yeah now did you mention it let's
58:23see I had a gun that was stolen mhm um I
58:27had other stuff that was stolen not your
58:30Duty gun was it no oh that's good um is
58:34it ever recovered I don't know no I
58:37don't think so not that I know of never
58:39been notified no car has been broken
58:42into yeah several times where did that
58:45happen when your gun was
58:51taken trying to
58:54remember I'm sure you guys must
58:57know
58:59um cuz my car was broken into in
59:05Ventura I think in Santa Monica I have
59:08relatives that live in Santa Monica and
59:10Venice um who lives there my uncle well
59:13I I had several uncles
59:18um yeah could have been Santa Monica um
59:22Venice my my car has been broken into
59:25inventur before
59:27so is your mom still around or mhm yeah
59:31your dad yeah but I don't really have
59:34much of a relationship with my
59:37dad so I couldn't tell you where he
59:39lives if you're you want to know oh
59:42really no yeah couldn't tell
59:45you well like I said we were looking at
59:49the case and you know we had read the
59:51notes as far as from U sher's friend
59:55saying
59:56you you guys had problems or words they
59:59got
59:59heated you know the reason we're asking

1:00:23I that's just not I again if someone
1:00:27says that I was at her house and I had
1:00:29an incident with
1:00:30her you know I that just doesn't sound I
1:00:33I you know was John there did John say
1:00:36this happened because and other people
1:00:38were there I just I don't recall I mean
1:00:41it just doesn't sound you know familiar
1:00:44and this is an incident where you showed
1:00:46up you weren't supposed to show up and
1:00:51things got heated at his house yeah
1:00:56that I you know I that just doesn't
1:00:59sound familiar I mean no I you know it's
1:01:02not sounding familiar so not at all now
1:01:05you're saying not familiar cuz it's just
1:01:07something you remember or it's just well
1:01:09you know what I would have then I'd have
1:01:10to say I don't remember cuz I don't
1:01:12remember I it that doesn't sound

1:01:56have killed her I mean come on I mean

1:02:18because it's I don't know if any other
1:02:20intense incidents in your life that have
1:02:22occurred I mean you'd recall those right
1:02:24I mean well like a use of force at work
1:02:27or car crash something you're involved
1:02:29in you'd be like yeah I remember you
1:02:30would think I would remember I mean I
1:02:32would think if it was something that
1:02:33crazy I mean I I can't say you say how
1:02:36many fights have you gotten into you
1:02:38know in your
1:02:40life you know I mean a few at work well
1:02:43fights at work are kind of different cuz
1:02:44we've all had uses of force or whatever
1:02:46but I me I haven't even have even a lot
1:02:47of those I me right but if you're if
1:02:49you're actually you know I mean i'
1:02:51played like if if Dan and I got mad at
1:02:52each other and we threw blows in the
1:02:54squad room I mean 20 years later I would
1:02:56remember it I mean I would think I
1:02:58remember it but that's that's why I'm
1:02:59saying that's not sounding familiar to
1:03:01me at all I mean let me ask you I mean
1:03:05throughout your
1:03:07life you know would you remember the
1:03:09number of fights you've been involved in
1:03:12and I don't mean kind of like a bump or
1:03:13something just a a physical fight where
1:03:16you everybody's hitting each other
1:03:18scratching pulling you know whatever
1:03:20maybe I mean I can't say I've been in a
1:03:23lot you know I've played Sports yeah you
1:03:26know you get into scuffles there and um
1:03:29and you recall some of those right I
1:03:31mean just yeah I can recall some of them
1:03:34yeah games get intense but like I said
1:03:36this you saying this this is just not
1:03:38ringing a bell I mean but you know I
1:03:41don't know what to tell you it's it's
1:03:42just that's just not ringing a bell to
1:03:44me it'd be something I would think I
1:03:47would remember I mean I'm if you're in
1:03:50this I would think so too if you're in
1:03:51this other girl's house and words are
1:03:53exchanged I mean You' figure you'd
1:03:55recall
1:03:56I would think especially if it got
1:03:58physical right well I would think and
1:04:01it's relating to you know a guy that you
1:04:04were dating and but she's dating now you
1:04:06know and it's just kind like a whole
1:04:08love triangle type of thing I mean you
1:04:09figur you'd remember that right well I
1:04:11would
1:04:14think
1:04:16so I mean I want to still tell you yeah
1:04:20no cuz I'm I mean I'm trying to I'm
1:04:22looking at the notes and these people
1:04:23are kind
1:04:24of they're pointing the finger at you
1:04:27well and I mean that's not ringing a
1:04:31bell to me so you know I don't you know
1:04:37it's I don't know what to tell you I
1:04:39mean that just sounds crazy to me yeah
1:04:41so you off hand you don't recall ever
1:04:42going into her house and having words
1:04:45and
1:04:46physically you know no attacking her her
1:04:49attacking you no nothing like that no I

1:05:03you know this is occurred in ' 86 right
1:05:08uh detectives processed the scene things
1:05:10of that nature uh they did fingerprints
1:05:13and all that stuff you know well you
1:05:14know the standard stuff you been doing
1:05:16this longer than I have uh well about
1:05:19that I got 26 years on going on 26 19
1:05:24so but
1:05:26you know as they processed everything uh
1:05:28they did the best they could at that
1:05:30time and they looked at a lot of a lot
1:05:31of people and different things in this
1:05:33case and you're right I mean if you guys
1:05:35are claiming that I'm a suspect then you
1:05:37know I I got a problem with you know
1:05:39with that okay okay so you know if
1:05:43you're if you're doing this as an
1:05:44interrogation you're saying hey I'm a
1:05:46suspect well now I got a problem with
1:05:48you know now you're accusing me of this
1:05:51is that what you're is that what you're
1:05:52saying we're trying to figure out what
1:05:54happened Steph
1:05:57well I'm I was you know I'm just
1:05:59saying you know would I need to get a
1:06:02lawyer if you're accusing me I you know
1:06:04you don't have to I mean you know you're
1:06:06here of your own free will I mean I know
1:06:08but you know you're not you're not under
1:06:10arrest you can walk out when you can
1:06:11leave whenever you like well you know
1:06:14I'm trying to give you some background
1:06:15of you know how I knew him and now
1:06:17you're telling me that some somebody's
1:06:20saying that we had this big old fight
1:06:21and I don't even know what you're
1:06:22talking about um you know and I don't
1:06:24want to you know get in trouble for
1:06:26something that I didn't even do or
1:06:28you're saying I did something okay we
1:06:31understand I mean how would you guys
1:06:33like it if the tables were turned on you
1:06:35I understand no um oh that's what we're
1:06:37telling you I mean you're free to go
1:06:38whenever you want if if this makes you
1:06:40uncomfortable and you want to you want
1:06:41now you're starting to make me
1:06:43uncomfortable the thing is I mean
1:06:45detectives did what they could at that
1:06:46time on the crime scene okay and the
1:06:48burglary thing you're talking about that
1:06:50is an angle that they looked at I go but
1:06:52now we're looking at everything else on
1:06:53the case cuz nobody was ever rest on the
1:06:55case I I don't know that or not okay now
1:07:01what we'd like to do is obviously you
1:07:03know about all the DNA stuff and things
1:07:05of the nature that you know gets done on
1:07:07cases nowadays you know if we asked you
1:07:09for a a DNA swab would you be willing to
1:07:11give us one
1:07:13maybe cuz now now now because now I'm
1:07:18thinking I probably need to talk to a
1:07:20lawyer okay I mean well I cuz I know how
1:07:24this stuff works okay don't get me wrong
1:07:25you're right I have been doing this a
1:07:26long time and and I wish I had been
1:07:28recording this because because now it
1:07:30sounds like you know there's you know
1:07:33you're selling these people say I'm a
1:07:34fighting with her and now it sounds like
1:07:37you're trying to you know I've been
1:07:39doing this a long time yeah we know okay
1:07:41and and now it almost sounds like you're
1:07:42trying to pin something on me now I got
1:07:44that sense well what it gets to on these
1:07:46on these cases and you know it as well
1:07:48as I do our job is to identify and
1:07:50eliminate subst I can't believe this so
1:07:52if we ask you to the point to give us a
1:07:54DNA sample a bual swab so we can
1:07:58identify or eliminate you would you be
1:08:00willing to do that
1:08:02maybe because I know this I I I I that's
1:08:05where we're at to I mean because right
1:08:08now from looking at the evidence it's
1:08:10you know it's possible we may have some
1:08:12DNA at the location that's great and
1:08:16we're going to do what we can to try to
1:08:18put this thing together and your name's
1:08:21in the book these people are pointing at
1:08:23you for whatever reason I don't know why
1:08:25that's just crazy I mean that's just
1:08:27that's absolutely crazy and it would be
1:08:30irresponsible on our part not to look at
1:08:32it I know you guys have to do your job
1:08:34and I guess I'm going to have to contact
1:08:35somebody so that's fair I mean cuz I
1:08:39know how this stuff works I mean I I I I
1:08:43I just can't believe it that's I mean we
1:08:45we understand that I mean if we were in
1:08:46your position I mean we would feel the
1:08:48same way I just can't even believe it I
1:08:51mean it's just I mean I'm shocked I'm
1:08:54really shocked that somebody would be
1:08:56blame saying that I did this I mean we
1:08:58had a fight and so I went and killed her
