  51. 2:09knew you and stuff.
  52. 2:09Oh, yeah, I mean we were good friends um
  53. 2:12lived in the dorms for
  54. 2:14I lived in the dorms for 2 years. Um You
  55. 2:17guys lived in the same dorm?
  56. 2:18Yeah. Okay.
  57. 2:19Yeah, Dykstra. Okay. Were you guys just
  58. 2:21friends or anything else or Yeah, we
  59. 2:23were we were
  60. 2:25good friends. Yeah. Was there ever any
  61. 2:27relationship or anything that developed
  62. 2:28between you guys?
  63. 2:30Yeah, I mean we we dated uh Uh-huh. you
  64. 2:32know, um
  65. 2:33I mean is it what what's this all about?
  66. 2:36Well, it's relating to uh
  67. 2:39his wife.
  68. 2:40Okay. Okay. Did you know her?
  69. 2:43Not really. I mean, I knew that he got
  70. 2:45married years ago. Uh-huh. Did you ever
  71. 2:47meet her?
  72. 2:49God, I don't know. Um
  73. 2:51Do you know who she was or anything?
  74. 2:53Well, I
  75. 2:54Let me think. God, it's been a long time
  76. 2:56ago. Um
  77. 2:59Um
  78. 3:00I you know, I may have met her.
  79. 3:02Um
  80. 3:03Jeez.
  81. 3:05You know.
  82. 3:06Yeah.
  83. 3:07Uh well, let me see. Let me ask you. You
  84. 3:08said you you dated John. How long did
  85. 3:10you guys date?
  86. 3:13I mean I well, I are you guys is this
  87. 3:15something
  88. 3:17I mean you said that I was going to
  89. 3:18interview somebody about art and how you
  90. 3:20guys are here's here's
  91. 3:21I mean
  92. 3:22Stephanie, here's the situation. It's
  93. 3:23basically
  94. 3:24we you know, we knew that this when we
  95. 3:27saw this in the in in this chrono that
  96. 3:29maybe you know, there was some
  97. 3:30relationship there. That's what the
  98. 3:31chrono seemed to indicate and we didn't
  99. 3:33want to come up to you at your desk and
  100. 3:35ask those kinds of questions or do
  101. 3:37anything. You know how up there people
  102. 3:39can see what's going on if you go into
  103. 3:40an interview room or people are in there
  104. 3:41getting supplies. So we we wanted to
  105. 3:43afford you some privacy, some
  106. 3:45confidentiality to talk about this cuz
  107. 3:47we thought it might be you know,
  108. 3:48something you know, your marriage to
  109. 3:49someone else obviously and so forth and
  110. 3:51that you may not want to you know, talk
  111. 3:53about these things in that setting where
  112. 3:54someone you know, we don't want the
  113. 3:55rumor mill or gossip or any of that kind
  114. 3:56of stuff to start.
  115. 3:57fine. I mean So what we we did this just
  116. 3:59as as a means to try and speak to you in
  117. 4:01just a confidential place where you you
  118. 4:03know, where where your business isn't
  119. 4:04out there for other people and you know,
  120. 4:06your division to know about.
  121. 4:07you know, God that's been a million
  122. 4:09years ago. I mean
  123. 4:10you know, um
  124. 4:13What year is it now? 2009? I mean, I
  125. 4:15graduated in 82. 82, yeah.
  126. 4:19Um
  127. 4:21you know, we dated um I dated other
  128. 4:23guys. I'm sure he dated other girls. Um
  129. 4:28Well, let me ask you uh
  130. 4:29roughly how long would you would you say
  131. 4:31you guys dated? Oh, jeez. Um
  132. 4:35I couldn't even say. I mean
  133. 4:37I started school there in 78. I started
  134. 4:40UCLA in 1978.
  135. 4:43I graduated in 82.
  136. 4:45Um I don't even remember what year he
  137. 4:47graduated if it was a year or two before
  138. 4:50me. Okay. Um I think he was a little bit
  139. 4:52older than I was. I mean, you know, I
  140. 4:54can't remember if he was born let's say
  141. 4:56I'm born in 60, 1960. I don't know if he
  142. 4:59was born in 58 or 59. I mean, I you
  143. 5:01know, I mean I knew his parents. I knew
  144. 5:03his sister. His brother went to
  145. 5:05Northridge.
  146. 5:08Um
  147. 5:09you know, sister spent the night at my
  148. 5:11house before. Obviously, I spent the
  149. 5:13night at his house before. He probably
  150. 5:14spent the night at my house before. Um
  151. 5:17you know, I
  152. 5:19I you know, I don't
  153. 5:20What
  154. 5:21correct me if I'm wrong cuz from what
  155. 5:23you're telling me is you you guys dated
  156. 5:24while you were in college together,
  157. 5:26right?
  158. 5:26Yeah, and probably after college. Um
  159. 5:29I can't
  160. 5:31Jeez, um trying to think when I met my
  161. 5:33husband. I met my husband
  162. 5:35in when I met Scott. Um
  163. 5:39Let's see.
  164. 5:40I was teaching DARE cuz I met Scott when
  165. 5:42I was teaching DARE up in Oregon. But
  166. 5:45we had long stopped you know,
  167. 5:47dating before that.
  168. 5:49haven't talked to him for a long time?
  169. 5:51Oh, I I think I haven't talked to him in
  170. 5:53a long time. Um I couldn't even tell you
  171. 5:54when the last time I talked to him.
  172. 5:56Um
  173. 5:57I met Scott I'm thinking in
  174. 6:0092 maybe um April of 92. It was Scott
  175. 6:04being your husband. Yeah, I'm trying to
  176. 6:06think. I was teaching DARE.
  177. 6:09Let's see. What year is this? This is
  178. 6:11we'll be married.
  179. 6:12Like I'm married in 1996. Think I met
  180. 6:14Scott in 92. Prior to that, I couldn't
  181. 6:17tell you how long I had talked you know,
  182. 6:19talked to John
  183. 6:21prior to that. But since you since you
  184. 6:23met your husband Scott, you haven't
  185. 6:24talked to him?
  186. 6:26I mean, he may have called me
  187. 6:28uh once or twice before we got married.
  188. 6:32Um you know,
  189. 6:34Jeez, I I lived I moved to Simi
  190. 6:37in 1994 because I lost my house in the
  191. 6:39earthquake. Oh, yeah. Um
  192. 6:41uh quite honestly, I probably keep in
  193. 6:43contact with
  194. 6:45a few people from the dorms. We we all
  195. 6:47we all lived on the 10th floor.
  196. 6:49Um and um
  197. 6:54there's
  198. 6:57about three or four people I keep in
  199. 6:59contact with. There's probably like six
  200. 7:01or eight of us that were all really
  201. 7:02close.
  202. 7:03Mhm. And who are those people?
  203. 7:05Oh, jeez. Um
  204. 7:07Diana Basta.
  205. 7:09Um
  206. 7:10The people I still keep I I haven't been
  207. 7:12in contact with her in a long time.
  208. 7:14Um I mean, what what you know, what's
  209. 7:17the what's I mean, what's this all
  210. 7:19about? I mean Well, let me ask you uh
  211. 7:21What ended the relationship between you
  212. 7:23and John?
  213. 7:25You know, I don't
  214. 7:26It was kind of a weird relationship. I
  215. 7:28mean, we we we dated. Um I can't say
  216. 7:32that he was my boyfriend. I don't know
  217. 7:33that he would consider me his
  218. 7:35girlfriend. Um we just we dated. We did
  219. 7:38things. I played sports in college. He
  220. 7:39played basketball.
  221. 7:41His brother played basketball. Um
  222. 7:44it it we just you know, it just
  223. 7:48didn't work out. I mean, I don't know
  224. 7:50what to tell you. It was like I went out
  225. 7:51with other guys. Um
  226. 7:53saw other guys. I went on lots of
  227. 7:55vacations.
  228. 7:56Um you know,
  229. 7:58And and once you guys split, were you
  230. 8:00guys still friends or kind of uh
  231. 8:03you know, problems?
  232. 8:05uh friendly, not friendly? No, I don't
  233. 8:07think it was not friendly. I mean, we
  234. 8:08were friendly. Um
  235. 8:10I know that
  236. 8:12we went to Hawaii
  237. 8:14um at one point.
  238. 8:16Um another friend of mine who's actually
  239. 8:18dying right now uh was went to Hawaii
  240. 8:22with us um at some point. Um Remember
  241. 8:25roughly when that was? Jeez, um
  242. 8:29Let me think.
  243. 8:31Hm.
  244. 8:32I'd have to check my pictures um or I'd
  245. 8:34I'd say I'd ask Greg, but my friend Greg
  246. 8:36is like dying of liver cancer right now.
  247. 8:38Um
  248. 8:40Yeah, I mean I you know,
  249. 8:42And you were saying that um It's 2009
  250. 8:45now.
  251. 8:46Had you ever met his wife?
  252. 8:48I may have. Do you know do you remember
  253. 8:50her name or anything or
  254. 8:53Um
  255. 8:56Um
  256. 8:58Or what she did for a living or where
  257. 9:00she worked or anything about her?
  258. 9:03Well, I think she I think I'm going to
  259. 9:04say that I think she was a nurse.
  260. 9:06Um
  261. 9:09And I can't remember how he he said he
  262. 9:10met her.
  263. 9:11Uh yeah, I mean I I yeah, I mean it's
  264. 9:14been so long ago. Well, let me ask you.
  265. 9:15Did you go to their wedding, you know,
  266. 9:17No, I didn't go to their wedding.
  267. 9:19Um no, I don't did not go to their
  268. 9:21wedding.
  269. 9:23Um
  270. 9:24I couldn't even tell you what year he
  271. 9:25got married. I mean, you know, it's it's
  272. 9:27been a million years ago. Do you
  273. 9:28remember if you ever talked to him cuz
  274. 9:30it seems like a lot of you who were
  275. 9:32at at the school UCLA, you guys kind of
  276. 9:34were friends during and after school. So
  277. 9:36I don't know if you guys still
  278. 9:37associated afterwards when once he was
  279. 9:39married or anything.
  280. 9:40With him? Yeah.
  281. 9:42No, I don't think so. I mean
  282. 9:46I would say
  283. 9:47you know,
  284. 9:48the the people that were on the dorm
  285. 9:49floor, we'd have we'd get togethers.
  286. 9:53Um there's probably like four or five I
  287. 9:55don't think he ever came.
  288. 9:57Um
  289. 9:58Yeah, I don't think no. It was There was
  290. 10:00like It was mostly girls,
  291. 10:02you know,
  292. 10:03um a girl named Smita, Diane,
  293. 10:06um
  294. 10:08There's another There's two Dianes, but
  295. 10:09the one Diane, I don't think she ever
  296. 10:11came. I kind of lost contact with her.
  297. 10:13We were good friends on the floor. Um
  298. 10:16Yeah, I mean, I don't you know, again, I
  299. 10:18I mean, what
  300. 10:20you know, I I don't understand why
  301. 10:22you're talking about some guy I dated a
  302. 10:23million years ago.
  303. 10:24you know what happened to his wife?
  304. 10:26Yeah, I know. She got killed.
  305. 10:28What did you What did you hear about
  306. 10:29that?
  307. 10:31I I saw a poster at work. Um I'm sure I
  308. 10:34spoke to him about it.
  309. 10:36Um
  310. 10:37I think I spoke to another friend of his
  311. 10:39about it.
  312. 10:40Um And how did How did you first learn
  313. 10:43about that?
  314. 10:44Jeez.
  315. 10:47Someone could have called me. I could
  316. 10:48have heard it at work.
  317. 10:50Um
  318. 10:51I think at one point there may have been
  319. 10:53a flyer or something. I know a good
  320. 10:55friend of his um
  321. 10:56Were you on the job back then when that
  322. 10:57happened?
  323. 10:58Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I'm sure I was
  324. 11:00on the job. That's why I would have
  325. 11:01heard about it with a flyer. Um
  326. 11:04He had a good friend, Mike
  327. 11:06Mike
  328. 11:07Boldrick, Mike
  329. 11:09Um
  330. 11:10Um
  331. 11:13Anyways, a
  332. 11:14I He may have lived in the dorms. I
  333. 11:16don't remember if that's how I met him.
  334. 11:18Um I I may have talked to him. I mean,
  335. 11:21you know, I don't remember how I heard.
  336. 11:22I mean, I don't even remember what year
  337. 11:24it was. And you think you you thought
  338. 11:26you said you thought his wife was a
  339. 11:27nurse. You have any idea where she was
  340. 11:28working at the time or
  341. 11:30Did he ever mention that to you?
  342. 11:32Was it a hospital or a doctor's office
  343. 11:34or
  344. 11:34he must have mentioned it. Now now that
  345. 11:35you're bringing that up, I think she
  346. 11:37worked at a hospital somewhere. And
  347. 11:39yeah, I may have met her at a hospital.
  348. 11:42Um
  349. 11:42I may have talked to her once or twice.
  350. 11:45Um

  360. 12:00Um
  361. 12:03You know, I don't know. I mean, it's got
  362. 12:05It's been so many years. I mean,
  363. 12:07the uncomfortable, I mean,

  392. 13:13scanned
  393. 13:14uh scanned from um
  394. 13:17I take a lot of photos. Um like 10,000.
  395. 13:21And I just did a service where I scanned
  396. 13:23everything.
  397. 13:25Um and I'd seen some pictures of his
  398. 13:26brother playing basketball.
  399. 13:27put them all on your computer so you can
  400. 13:28have them accessible and do things with
  401. 13:29them?
  402. 13:30Well, my partner is a big photo thing
  403. 13:32and he had a deal to scan. So, I spent a
  404. 13:36ton of time just scanning photos. I
  405. 13:38mean, I paid a company to do it. Mhm. Um
  406. 13:41So, I've got photos up I mean, his
  407. 13:43brother, his sister, you know, 10,000
  408. 13:45pictures? Oh, yeah. How long did that
  409. 13:47take them?
  410. 13:49Months.
  411. 13:51Now, what What do they Do they put that
  412. 13:52on a I'm just curious myself. Do they
  413. 13:54put it on a Do they put it get them all
  414. 13:55on one DVD? They don't need like a hard
  415. 13:57drive or anything?
  416. 13:57no. No, there's like I think 11 DVDs.
  417. 14:01Yeah, I haven't even I don't even have
  418. 14:02time to
  419. 14:02It's It's a series of DVDs that they put
  420. 14:04them on? Oh, yeah.
  421. 14:06I'm not that familiar with computer
  422. 14:07stuff, so that's why I was asking.
  423. 14:09like 11 DVDs.
  424. 14:10So, you know,
  425. 14:13I haven't had a chance to go through
  426. 14:14them. I I
  427. 14:15You could go through and pick which ones
  428. 14:17you don't want. I don't have time to do
  429. 14:18that. Right.
  430. 14:19You know, so I So, as you said, did I
  431. 14:21you know,
  432. 14:22I don't think we ever socialized. Um
  433. 14:25you know, uh he'd still call me. Um I
  434. 14:28can't say that I would I mean, if he's
  435. 14:30married, I don't know that I would have
  436. 14:31called him. I mean, maybe. Who knows? I
  437. 14:33I you know, I I don't know. It's been a
  438. 14:34million years ago. How long was John
  439. 14:36married before his wife died? I couldn't
  440. 14:39I have no idea.
  441. 14:40Yeah, I have no idea.
  442. 14:42And uh
  443. 14:44after his wife died, did Did you talk to
  444. 14:46him again or anything? Yeah, I mean, I
  445. 14:49did talk to him. Mhm. I talked to him,
  446. 14:51probably his parents, um
  447. 14:54probably some other friends, um
  448. 14:57you know,
  449. 14:59I'm sure I talked to him. Yeah. Um
  450. 15:02But you don't you don't You're not sure
  451. 15:03where he moved to after he got married?
  452. 15:05No idea. I mean,
  453. 15:07Never went over to to visit him or
  454. 15:09think I mean, I don't think so. I mean,
  455. 15:12um
  456. 15:13I don't know. I don't I mean, I don't
  457. 15:14think I did. Um
  458. 15:17I know he lived on Roscoe for a long,
  459. 15:19long time.
  460. 15:21Um
  461. 15:25I mean, he I may know. I mean, he may
  462. 15:27have told me where they lived. Somewhere
  463. 15:29in the valley. I mean, he may have said
  464. 15:30he I lived over such and such, but I I
  465. 15:32couldn't tell you specifically where.
  466. 15:35But you don't remember specifically ever
  467. 15:36going over to visit him or visit them
  468. 15:38and where wherever he moved when he left
  469. 15:40Roscoe.
  470. 15:41I I I honestly I don't know. I don't
  471. 15:43think so, but Okay. I you know, I don't
  472. 15:46want to say no, I don't think so and
  473. 15:47then he says, "Oh, yeah, she came over
  474. 15:49for something, dropped something off."
  475. 15:51You know,
  476. 15:53I'm I don't know. So, if you did go over
  477. 15:55there, it'd just be like a a quick thing
  478. 15:57like like you were saying, drop
  479. 15:58something off or Maybe. Um
  480. 16:01But you don't remember as far as like
  481. 16:02going there to have dinner or like a
  482. 16:04social anything at the house, party?
  483. 16:08Well, if you guys know something, I I
  484. 16:09just I can't I don't know. I don't think
  485. 16:12so.
  486. 16:13I mean, but
  487. 16:14After uh
  488. 16:16John's wife died, I You said you may
  489. 16:18have been talking to him. Did uh your
  490. 16:20relationship
  491. 16:22start up again?
  492. 16:23I would say no.
  493. 16:25Um
  494. 16:27Again, can you give me a year? I mean,
  495. 16:29this is like 2009.
  496. 16:31She died in 1986. Yeah, I think it was
  497. 16:34'86.
  498. 16:341986. Okay. Um
  499. 16:38Like I said, I'm I'm faintly remembering
  500. 16:40that
  501. 16:42um I went to Hawaii
  502. 16:45with my friend Greg. Greg and I got
  503. 16:46certified for scuba diving.
  504. 16:49Um and I'm thinking that John met us
  505. 16:52there, meaning Greg and I.
  506. 16:54Um
  507. 16:57That could have been
  508. 16:58I got certified
  509. 17:01toward the end of
  510. 17:03'88 or I mean, 20 Yeah, '88, '89.
  511. 17:07Um
  512. 17:09cuz I got recertified again and it had
  513. 17:11been like over
  514. 17:1410 10 years, so I got recertified. My
  515. 17:17husband and I got recertified. Um
  516. 17:21And I'm pretty sure that John met us
  517. 17:24there.
  518. 17:25Um Again, I'd have to tell you what year
  519. 17:27it was. I'd have to look at my pictures.
  520. 17:29Um
  521. 17:31you know,
  522. 17:32um and other than that, I can't even
  523. 17:34say. He may have called me,
  524. 17:37you know, at my home. Um I may have
  525. 17:39called him.
  526. 17:40Um I don't think
  527. 17:43he got together with our group. Um I
  528. 17:46don't think after his wife's death. Uh
  529. 17:48even before, I don't
  530. 17:51You know, I
  531. 17:52We went to weddings together. I you
  532. 17:54know, Did you
  533. 17:55pictures. I Like I said, I couldn't tell
  534. 17:57you years. It's been a million years
  535. 17:59ago. After he After he got
  536. 18:03uh married or whatever, were you Were
  537. 18:04you dating anybody?
  538. 18:06In particular or let alone with someone
  539. 18:08named
  540. 18:081986, you said?
  541. 18:10he got married yeah, in around '85, '86,
  542. 18:12something like that.
  543. 18:14Were you seeing anyone seriously or
  544. 18:18I couldn't say.
  545. 18:19Um
  546. 18:21Jeez, I'm trying to think. I mean,
  547. 18:23you know, I dated a fireman. Um
  548. 18:27What was his name? Mike Arndt. Um and
  549. 18:30I'm trying to think
  550. 18:31Was he an LFD or He was LFD. Mhm. Um
  551. 18:35Trying to think when I went I probably
  552. 18:37met Mike. I went to Devonshire.
  553. 18:40Let's see, I left Hollywood in '80 I I
  554. 18:43worked Hollywood '84
  555. 18:46to '85, I think.
  556. 18:48And then I went to Devonshire and that's
  557. 18:49when I met Mike.
  558. 18:51Um
  559. 18:52and some other firemen.
  560. 18:55And
  561. 18:56What at the station next door? No,
  562. 18:57actually no. Cuz I used to work
  563. 18:59Hollywood, so I just wondered if it was
  564. 19:00the station
  565. 19:00No, no, no. It was in When I worked
  566. 19:02Devonshire, I met Mike.
  567. 19:03Oh, okay. All right.
  568. 19:05And I'm trying to think. I went to
  569. 19:07Devonshire in '85. And I'm thinking that
  570. 19:11I would have met him probably sometime
  571. 19:14shortly after I went to Devonshire cuz I
  572. 19:16met him and his
  573. 19:17I actually met his buddies at a fire.
  574. 19:20Um and then
  575. 19:22Mike and I dated
  576. 19:25you know, just really kind of casually.
  577. 19:27Uh-huh. Um
  578. 19:30And we remained very I mean, we remained
  579. 19:32good friends. Um You still in touch with
  580. 19:34him or Unfortunately, he passed away.
  581. 19:36Oh, really?
  582. 19:37He died in a um He had a car crash. Um
  583. 19:41He did race cars and he went heading
  584. 19:45into a wall. Mhm.
  585. 19:47I couldn't tell you what year that was.
  586. 19:49Um but he passed away. He was in a coma
  587. 19:52when they pulled the uh the plug.
  588. 19:53Right. Seems like mhm uh anyway
  589. 19:56um
  590. 19:57So,
  591. 19:58you know,
  592. 20:00I couldn't even tell you what what year.
  593. 20:02I'm thinking I went to Devlin in '85 and
  594. 20:03I know I met the guys cuz I it was kind
  595. 20:05of a funny incident of how I met them.
  596. 20:07And that's how I remember. It was
  597. 20:09sometime probably '85. Right. Um you
  598. 20:12know, if you specifically I don't even
  599. 20:14know if they'd remember. The other two
  600. 20:16are now
  601. 20:17married to somebody else cuz I kind of
  602. 20:20all three I mean
  603. 20:21Did you guys socialize like when you
  604. 20:22were out with Mike, did those guys come
  605. 20:24out with you, too? Was it kind of like
  606. 20:25did you do stuff with his friends or
  607. 20:27um there were three there was two
  608. 20:29firemen, Eric and Gary.
  609. 20:31Um I met them first.
  610. 20:33Then they introduced me to Mike.
  611. 20:35So, that's how I met Mike and Mike dated
  612. 20:37Mike and I dated.
  613. 20:38Mhm. So,
  614. 20:39um
  615. 20:40And not I wouldn't even say I couldn't
  616. 20:42even tell you for how long because then
  617. 20:43it was so we decided yeah, it wasn't
  618. 20:45working out and we'd be better friends
  619. 20:47and
  620. 20:49you know, he introduced me I think
  621. 20:51to some other guy on that who now is on
  622. 20:53LAPD.
  623. 20:55Um
  624. 20:56uh
  625. 20:58Randy Cordobas.
  626. 21:00Um
  627. 21:01I don't think I know him.
  628. 21:03He's got a twin brother who's on the
  629. 21:04fire department. That's how I met Randy
  630. 21:07um because he had a twin brother
  631. 21:09identical twin on the fire department.
  632. 21:11Okay. Um
  633. 21:13And And what you you were already
  634. 21:15I dated him
  635. 21:17when I couldn't tell you. It was before
  636. 21:18he came on the job.
  637. 21:20Oh, before Randy came on the job? Yeah.
  638. 21:22Oh, okay.
  639. 21:23And that was
  640. 21:25um
  641. 21:26I Oh, God, I'm trying to remember.
  642. 21:29If Mike Mike may have
  643. 21:33I'm trying to remember.
  644. 21:35Mike may have dated um
  645. 21:38a girl that he dated
  646. 21:40I don't that sounds too weird. Um
  647. 21:44Randy may have dated a gal that Mike was
  648. 21:47dating.
  649. 21:48And that and then Mike
  650. 21:50Randy broke up with that gal.
  651. 21:53I couldn't even tell you the gal's name
  652. 21:54if I'm even thinking of the story right.
  653. 21:56And then I started dating Randy. Yeah.
  654. 21:59Oh.
  655. 22:00I you know, so again, I mean
  656. 22:03not like I was a huge floozy or
  657. 22:05anything, but
  658. 22:06No, but you know, I mean a lot of times,
  659. 22:08right? At least from my female partners
  660. 22:10that I've had, you know, it's hard
  661. 22:11dating guys that aren't involved in kind
  662. 22:14of our circle, right? Because some a lot
  663. 22:15some guys are intimidated by, you know,
  664. 22:17women police officers and
  665. 22:19Yeah, Randy was like an engineer at the
  666. 22:20time. Uh he was like a some kind of an
  667. 22:22engineer. On a truck on a rig on a fire
  668. 22:25truck?
  669. 22:25No, no, um an engineer um Oh,
  670. 22:27professional engineer. All right, okay.
  671. 22:29lost a job and then came on on the
  672. 22:31department.
  673. 22:32I see. So,
  674. 22:33um
  675. 22:34But getting back to some of this stuff,
  676. 22:36as far as you recall after John's wife
  677. 22:37died,
  678. 22:40did you start a relationship again with
  679. 22:42with John or
  680. 22:44dating casually or anything like that?
  681. 22:47Like I said,
  682. 22:49he met Greg and I in Hawaii, okay?
  683. 22:53Um
  684. 22:55That was something you guys kind of
  685. 22:56planned together like go as a group or
  686. 22:58you you got ran into him or
  687. 23:00No, I I think that
  688. 23:02obviously I must have talked to him and
  689. 23:04I said, "Hey, I'm going to Hawaii with
  690. 23:07my buddy Greg. We're
  691. 23:09we're scuba we just got certified scuba
  692. 23:11diving. Um
  693. 23:13uh we're going to be in Hawaii. Hey, if
  694. 23:15you want to come and join us, come join
  695. 23:16us." And I I think that's what it was.
  696. 23:19Um
  697. 23:20I met I may have asked some other people
  698. 23:22to as well. Um
  699. 23:24You know,
  700. 23:25uh what island did we go to?
  701. 23:29I think the Big Island and Kauai. He
  702. 23:32either met us on the Big Island or
  703. 23:33Kauai. I'm thinking of
  704. 23:35Sc- uh Greg and I might have scuba dived
  705. 23:37a lot in on the Big Island
  706. 23:40as well as Kauai. I'm I I don't remember
  707. 23:42which island again. I'd have to look at
  708. 23:43my pictures.
  709. 23:45Um I traveled a lot Mhm. um on my
  710. 23:48vacations. I mean, I was always gone for
  711. 23:50at least a month.
  712. 23:51Um
  713. 23:53And I'd go places and I would either run
  714. 23:55into people or you know,
  715. 23:57you know, meet people.
  716. 23:59Um
  717. 24:00And Greg this Greg we're talking about
  718. 24:03he was
  719. 24:05like a someone you were dating or just a
  720. 24:07buddy or
  721. 24:08No, you know what? I would I would say
  722. 24:10we started out um
  723. 24:13probably just buddies
  724. 24:15um
  725. 24:15and either I was with somebody or he was
  726. 24:18with somebody, but it was all we all It
  727. 24:20was kind of like we ended up just kind
  728. 24:21of being like brother and sister. Um
  729. 24:24And maybe he wanted something more, but
  730. 24:27um
  731. 24:27you know, it just it never, you know,
  732. 24:30worked out, but we we we did things
  733. 24:31together. Um you know, I would consider
  734. 24:34him I've probably known him
  735. 24:38Let's see, I've been on the job almost
  736. 24:3926 years.
  737. 24:41I've probably known Greg 23 24 years.
  738. 24:44Um
  739. 24:44Do you still talk to him?
  740. 24:46Oh, yeah, he's dying of liver cancer
  741. 24:48right now. Yeah.
  742. 24:49I'm sorry. Yeah, so um so you know, I I
  743. 24:53consider him a good friend um
  744. 24:55you know, um
  745. 25:00you know, I don't know what to tell you
  746. 25:01on that. Um I mean, when when you heard
  747. 25:03about uh
  748. 25:05John's wife being killed, I mean, what
  749. 25:07was your what was your reaction? I mean,
  750. 25:08what did you you thought you heard about
  751. 25:10it what through a friend or in a
  752. 25:12bulletin or something?
  753. 25:13a friend or a bulletin. Um I obviously I
  754. 25:15mean, I called I called the family.
  755. 25:17Um I called maybe some of his friends
  756. 25:20that that that I knew and I mean,
  757. 25:21obviously it shocked you. If you're if I
  758. 25:23heard it at work, you know, um which I
  759. 25:25may have I I faintly remember a bulletin
  760. 25:28going around. Um
  761. 25:31Either that or somebody called me. I I I
  762. 25:32honestly don't remember. Right. Um
  763. 25:35and then I called probably called his
  764. 25:36family.
  765. 25:38Um called uh
  766. 25:40I
  767. 25:41don't know initially
  768. 25:42I can't say if I initially spoke to him
  769. 25:44or not. I honestly don't remember.
  770. 25:46I may have said to somebody, "Hey, have
  771. 25:48him call me if he wants to talk."
  772. 25:51And then he may have done that.
  773. 25:52Uh-huh. Um
  774. 25:54you know, um
  775. 25:57Do you
  776. 25:57Do you know what the circumstances were
  777. 25:59regarding her death? Mhm.
  778. 26:03Geez, let me think back.
  779. 26:06Um
  780. 26:07Geez,
  781. 26:09I don't know if it was you know, if it
  782. 26:11was a burglary or something. I yeah,
  783. 26:13it's I mean, it's been so many years. I
  784. 26:15I mean, I can faintly
  785. 26:17think that I may have saw a flyer. Yeah.
  786. 26:19Uh may have had her picture on it, you
  787. 26:22know, um I mean
  788. 26:24That's why I say if somebody had called
  789. 26:26me,
  790. 26:27I may not have known what her last name
  791. 26:28was. I may have I mean, maybe if you
  792. 26:31told me I would remember it. Um Do you
  793. 26:33remember her first name?
  794. 26:35Uh
  795. 26:35Shelly um Sherry
  796. 26:39I don't know, something maybe a you
  797. 26:41know,
  798. 26:42um like I said, it's been so many years
  799. 26:44and
  800. 26:45um From all the years as far as you can
  801. 26:47remember, do you don't do you do you
  802. 26:49remember ever talking to her? Just
  803. 26:51Well, I
  804. 26:52I said earlier, you know, I I mean
  805. 26:55I may have, you know, I may have talked
  806. 26:57to her. Um it sound I you know,
  807. 27:01You mentioned a hospital maybe. You may
  808. 27:03have talked to her at a hospital.
  809. 27:05Yeah, um
  810. 27:07yeah, I may have
  811. 27:08you know, I'm I'm thinking back now you
  812. 27:10guys are bringing up all these old
  813. 27:11memories. No, it kind of dusts off the
  814. 27:13cobwebs, I understand.
  815. 27:15Um
  816. 27:19I'm thinking that
  817. 27:21because I mean, we would date he would
  818. 27:23date other people. I would date other
  819. 27:24people. Mhm. And I think, you know,
  820. 27:29at one point I mean, he may have been
  821. 27:31dating her or I don't know. Maybe he was
  822. 27:34married. I don't even remember.
  823. 27:36And I'm like, you know what? Why are you
  824. 27:38calling me if you're either dating her
  825. 27:41or living with her or married to her. I
  826. 27:42I cuz I honestly don't remember the time
  827. 27:43frame. Um and I'm like, come on, knock
  828. 27:45it off. And I'm And now I'm thinking I
  829. 27:47put may I may have gone to her and said,
  830. 27:49"Hey, you know what?
  831. 27:50You know what? Is he dating you? He's
  832. 27:52he's bothering me."
  833. 27:54Um and so I'm thinking that we had a
  834. 27:55conversation about that.
  835. 27:57Um
  836. 27:58One or two maybe. I
  837. 28:01you know, I It could have been three. I
  838. 28:02don't want to say I had three
  839. 28:04conversations with her. Like at like at
  840. 28:05her work or at their at their house or
  841. 28:09No, I'm thinking that I
  842. 28:10you know, he obviously must have told me
  843. 28:12where she worked. I'm thinking it was a
  844. 28:14hospital somewhere
  845. 28:16in LA and I just I mean, I could have
  846. 28:18been
  847. 28:19Again, what year was that? Where was I
  848. 28:21working?
  849. 28:22Um
  850. 28:29You know, I don't I don't I'm trying to
  851. 28:30think of where
  852. 28:32You When did you say they got married?
  853. 28:35I don't know. I think it was like
  854. 28:36in '85 or '86 or something like that.
  855. 28:40Yeah, we we we we just kind of picked
  856. 28:42this up. We don't you know, we don't
  857. 28:43know a lot about it.
  858. 28:52I mean, I could have been working in
  859. 28:53Hollywood it sounds like if if that's
  860. 28:55where I was working.
  861. 28:57Um So, I could have said, "Okay, well,
  862. 28:59you know," and I went and talked to her.
  863. 29:01Um and just said, "Hey, you know what?
  864. 29:03You know, if he's dating you, he's he's
  865. 29:05keeps calling me. Why don't you tell him
  866. 29:08to knock it off or whatever." And you
  867. 29:10know, because I probably would have told
  868. 29:11him to knock it off. You would have
  869. 29:12called John? Oh, yeah. I mean, I would
  870. 29:14have said, "Hey, you know,
  871. 29:16And again, But you wanted to tell her,
  872. 29:19too? You wanted them both to know? Yeah,
  873. 29:21I mean, you know, if you get you're
  874. 29:22getting her
  875. 29:23called and I'm try I'm faintly
  876. 29:25remembering
  877. 29:26uh
  878. 29:27when Scott moved in with me in 1993.
  879. 29:30Uh
  880. 29:31sometime in '93 cuz I met Scott in in
  881. 29:36in April of '92. I was teaching DARE up
  882. 29:38in Oregon. Mhm.
  883. 29:40And
  884. 29:43um
  885. 29:45He moved down. In fact, he may have
  886. 29:47moved down in '92.
  887. 29:49'92 or '93, there was a big earthquake.
  888. 29:51No, when was the big earthquake?
  889. 29:53No, '94.
  890. 29:55yeah. So, he
  891. 29:57I think Scott might have might moved in
  892. 29:59in '93, sometime in '93.
  893. 30:03Excuse me. Um
  894. 30:05I haven't had my breakfast yet. Um and
  895. 30:07so
  896. 30:09um
  897. 30:10Um excuse me.
  898. 30:12Um
  899. 30:13and so I faintly recall that John may
  900. 30:16have called a few times and I'm like,
  901. 30:18"Hey, you know, I've got He goes, "Well,
  902. 30:20can you I was like, "You know, can you
  903. 30:21talk or something?" I'm like, "You know,
  904. 30:22no, I can't talk. I've got you know, I'm
  905. 30:24living with somebody." Right.
  906. 30:26You know, and and that could have been a
  907. 30:27few times. It could have been once,
  908. 30:28could have been twice, could have been
  909. 30:29three times. Yeah, I don't know, you
  910. 30:31know. And that's during the period of
  911. 30:33time of the earthquake that you're in.
  912. 30:35Well, no, probably probably after Scott
  913. 30:37moved in. I think I met Scott in April
  914. 30:39of '92.
  915. 30:40Okay, right before.
  916. 30:41April of '92 cuz I was I stopped
  917. 30:44teaching D.A.R.E.
  918. 30:51I think I stopped teaching D.A.R.E.
  919. 30:52sometime in '92. Mhm. Um
  920. 30:56And when you And when you say that you
  921. 30:58may have
  922. 30:59um you know that you talked to his wife
  923. 31:01said, "Hey, you know, or you know, I
  924. 31:03don't know if it was I guess it wasn't
  925. 31:04his wife at that time, girlfriend or
  926. 31:05whatever." And
  927. 31:06Yeah, I don't know if it was his wife or
  928. 31:07his girl I I I mean,
  929. 31:08quite honestly, I don't even remember.
  930. 31:09When you said like, "Hey, you know, he's
  931. 31:11calling me. He needs to knock it off or
  932. 31:12what have you." I mean, was that was
  933. 31:13that civil? Was there I mean
  934. 31:14Oh, yeah, no, there was not I don't
  935. 31:15think there was anything It was if the
  936. 31:17conversation lasted a a a a few minutes.
  937. 31:20I can't even remember. It wasn't like,
  938. 31:21you know, we went out to lunch or
  939. 31:22anything.
  940. 31:23Right, but there was no like arguments
  941. 31:24or fights or it didn't get heated or
  942. 31:26anything like that.
  943. 31:27I recall, no. I mean I would think that
  944. 31:30would stand out, I would think. Now,
  945. 31:31again, that's not standing out in my
  946. 31:33mind.
  947. 31:34Um
  948. 31:36you know
  949. 31:38So, you didn't have any problems with
  950. 31:39her then? No.
  951. 31:41have any issues with her?
  952. 31:42No, I mean Well, let me let me ask you.
  953. 31:45Seems like you didn't have any issue.
  954. 31:46Now, did she have an issue with you as
  955. 31:48far as because now you you're telling
  956. 31:50her, "Hey, you know, tell him to stop
  957. 31:52calling us." You know, she's like,
  958. 31:53"Yeah."
  959. 31:54You know, you figure she'd be threatened
  960. 31:56by you. You know, I
  961. 31:58I don't know. I mean From what you
  962. 32:00remember as far as when you talked to
  963. 32:01her, maybe you didn't take it as
  964. 32:03serious, but maybe you know, did she?
  965. 32:06Maybe she was bothered.
  966. 32:06was she throwing things at me or
  967. 32:08something or
  968. 32:08Well, no, not just you know as far as
  969. 32:10you're trying to explain like, "Hey,
  970. 32:12have him stop calling me, you know, stop
  971. 32:13playing games."
  972. 32:14I You know, you tell her
  973. 32:16If the conversation I couldn't even tell
  974. 32:18you how long the conversation I If you
  975. 32:19said, "Did it last a half an hour? Did
  976. 32:21it last 3 minutes? Did it last 20
  977. 32:23minutes?" I can't even remember. It's
  978. 32:24been so long ago, you know. Um You just
  979. 32:27remember talking to her telling her
  980. 32:29about this.
  981. 32:29why you said, "How many times did you
  982. 32:30talk to her?" I don't know how many
  983. 32:31times I talked to her. Maybe it was
  984. 32:32once, maybe it was twice, maybe it was
  985. 32:34three times. You know, I I I honestly
  986. 32:36don't know. Um I I don't know what year
  987. 32:38it was. Um
  988. 32:41if you if he said, "I met her in such
  989. 32:43and such year." I'd go, "Okay, well, I
  990. 32:44don't even know what year year he met
  991. 32:46her." Um
  992. 32:47I graduated from UCLA in 1982, okay?
  993. 32:52I graduated in '82.
  994. 32:53Like I said, I don't know if he
  995. 32:54graduated I know he was
  996. 32:57a little older than I was. So, I don't
  997. 32:59know if he graduated a year before or 2
  998. 33:00years before because people are on
  999. 33:02different
  1000. 33:03um you're on the 4-year program or the
  1001. 33:045-year program.
1002. 33:05Mhm. Um What year did you come on the
  1003. 33:08job?
  1004. 33:09'83.
1005. 33:10Oh, so almost pretty much immediately
1006. 33:12after you got out of school?
  1007. 33:14Yeah, I worked at a law firm for a year.
  1008. 33:17Um
1009. 33:18and then came on the job.
1010. 33:20But in anyway, in regards to seeing him,
  1011. 33:23not seeing him
1012. 33:24we went to friends' weddings that were,
  1013. 33:27you know,
  1014. 33:28from UCLA.
1015. 33:30Um I may have gone to some of his
1016. 33:31friends' weddings from where he worked.
1017. 33:34Um he may have gone to things with me,
  1018. 33:36you know. Um
  1019. 33:39You know, I mean I I I
1020. 33:41don't know how many times we went to do
1021. 33:43things, you know. Or didn't do things.
  1022. 33:45Right. Like I said, his sister
1023. 33:48um um I know his sister uh
1024. 33:52his brother, his sister I know stayed at
  1025. 33:54my townhouse
  1026. 33:56a number of times. I couldn't tell you
  1027. 33:58how many times.
  1028. 33:59Right. Um
1029. 34:00I would watch his brother, you know, I
1030. 34:02shoot take pictures at a basketball game
  1031. 34:05or or two.
1032. 34:06Where was your townhouse at? In Granada
  1033. 34:07Hills.
1034. 34:09Um uh below the Odyssey.
1035. 34:11I don't know where the Odyssey is.
  1036. 34:12Oh, I'm sorry. The 405 and the 5 um the
  1037. 34:15405 and
  1038. 34:16the the 405 turns into 5, the 118. Um
1039. 34:20they they came down in the earthquake.
  1040. 34:22Okay. So. Okay.
  1041. 34:24And you're saying
1042. 34:25when you went to see her
1043. 34:28do you would you remember if it was at
  1044. 34:29her house or at
1045. 34:32at the place she worked at?
  1046. 34:34No, I'm thinking that I'm thinking it
  1047. 34:36was probably
1048. 34:38For some reason I want to say that the
1049. 34:40hospital seemed that you know, if you
1050. 34:43say he got married in
1051. 34:45'85 or something, I'm thinking that you
1052. 34:48know, maybe the hospital was on my way
  1053. 34:50to work in Hollywood. I mean, that's
1054. 34:52kind of sounding familiar. Um
1055. 34:55Would you have gone on duty?
  1056. 34:57Oh, no, I'm sure I wouldn't. If I No,
1057. 35:00I'm I'm pretty good about not doing
  1058. 35:01stuff.
1059. 35:02You know, I mean No, I'm not saying that
1060. 35:04you know, you haven't done stuff on
  1061. 35:06duty, but I I I would have I mean, I
1062. 35:09would have been working with somebody.
  1063. 35:10Okay. You know, so
  1064. 35:12I wouldn't I wouldn't think. I mean, I
1065. 35:13try to avoid doing stuff on duty. Okay.
  1066. 35:16So.
1067. 35:17So, you would have gone if it was in
1068. 35:19route to work, you more than likely
1069. 35:20would have gone to her work and had this
  1070. 35:23discussion with her. I mean, that's
  1071. 35:24sounding familiar. I mean, that's now
1072. 35:26that you guys are bringing this stuff
  1073. 35:27up,
  1074. 35:28um
1075. 35:29I mean, it sound that sounds familiar.
1076. 35:31Um but again, I mean, you know,
  1077. 35:34what's I mean, what's this got to do
1078. 35:36with me dating him and you know, her
  1079. 35:38getting killed? I mean, I I I don't you
  1080. 35:40know, I don't have anything to do with
1081. 35:42it and you got something that's somebody
1082. 35:44said, you know, whatever. I mean Well,
1083. 35:47like we said, we we just literally got
1084. 35:48this the other day and and you're going
  1085. 35:50through it. Yeah.
  1086. 35:52you're
1087. 35:52next next door. Right. And so, you know,
1088. 35:55I mean, obviously it's like we recognize
1089. 35:57the name. We know that you know, you
1090. 35:58work next door to us and so we're trying
1091. 36:00to get some background. We're trying to
1092. 36:01figure this out. I mean, this is from a
1093. 36:02long time ago. You know, and and things
1094. 36:04have been kind of slow for us and so,
1095. 36:06you know, Chief Beck has said, "Hey, you
  1096. 36:08know, I want you guys working. I don't
1097. 36:09want you to sit around reading the
  1098. 36:10paper."
1099. 36:11Yeah. So, he's kind of pushing some
1100. 36:12older cases out even to the guys that
1101. 36:14work active cases because, you know, and
1102. 36:15so we see this and we're just like, "Oh,
  1103. 36:17well,
1104. 36:17you know, we want to talk to you about
1105. 36:18it." But of course, the only reason we
1106. 36:20did it here is because we're getting
1107. 36:21into some pretty personal stuff in your
  1108. 36:22relationship.
  1109. 36:23my husband's on the job and we've been
  1110. 36:25married a long
1111. 36:26to take the risk. We don't want to take
1112. 36:27the risk when one of those interview
1113. 36:28rooms and even when the door closed,
1114. 36:29someone's going to get supplies and see
1115. 36:31us on a monitor or hears or whatever.
  1116. 36:32I appreciate it. I mean, I appreciate
  1117. 36:34like I said.
  1118. 36:34That's where people go when there's
1119. 36:35oral, you know, when they're doing oral,
1120. 36:36guys will go in there and try and watch
1121. 36:38and go, "What are the answers to the
  1122. 36:39questions?" you know.
1123. 36:39know that. Yeah, so so we just we just
1124. 36:41want to afford you the most privacy and
  1125. 36:43confidentiality we could. I appreciate
1126. 36:45it. Like I said, I mean, this goes way
1127. 36:47back and I mean, it was very sad, you
  1128. 36:49know, obviously
  1129. 36:51um
  1130. 36:53I I haven't you know, I
1131. 36:55When we were in college
1132. 36:57some of us would go down to his house in
1133. 36:59San Diego. I went down to his house with
  1134. 37:01him.
  1135. 37:02You know,
  1136. 37:03with with him. I know I'm trying to
1137. 37:05think of some other people that may have
  1138. 37:06gone down there.
1139. 37:07where he grew up? Is down there?
1140. 37:08Yeah, down in San Diego.
  1141. 37:09Oh, okay.
1142. 37:09Um I know his dad was a professor at San
  1143. 37:12Diego State. I don't know if he still
  1144. 37:14is. Mhm. Um
1145. 37:16I don't know what happened to his
1146. 37:17sister, don't know what happened to his
  1147. 37:18brother. Um
  1148. 37:21You know, I'm sure his dad's probably
  1149. 37:22retired by now.
1150. 37:24He was I think older um even back then.
  1151. 37:28Right.
  1152. 37:28Um
  1153. 37:30and I I can't even tell you the last
1154. 37:32time I had any contact with any of them.
  1155. 37:34It's been so long.
1156. 37:35Did he tell you what happened? Like what
1157. 37:37he heard from the detectives or the
  1158. 37:38police or
1159. 37:41You know what? He may have
  1160. 37:43um
  1161. 37:45For some reason I'm thinking that
1162. 37:48I mean, again, this is like
  1163. 37:55drugs or something. I mean, I think I
  1164. 37:57faintly remember him
  1165. 37:59mentioning something maybe about
  1166. 38:01cocaine.
  1167. 38:02Um
1168. 38:04that she was involved with that? You
1169. 38:05know, I don't know that he said she was
1170. 38:07involved or they thought she was I you
  1171. 38:09know, again, it's been so long. I you
1172. 38:11know, he could have mentioned He could
1173. 38:13have told me the whole story of what
  1174. 38:15happened. And I mean, like I said, I'm
1175. 38:17faintly remembering even between him or
  1176. 38:19the flyer um
1177. 38:22that there was some kind of a burglary.
  1178. 38:25Um
  1179. 38:27you know
1180. 38:28Let me ask if the the detectives ever
1181. 38:29reach out to you? Ever No, no one's ever
  1182. 38:32talked to me. I don't think anybody ever
1183. 38:33talked to me about about him. Um It
1184. 38:36seems like back in the year of '86
  1185. 38:37well, I I take
  1186. 38:41I'm thinking that I did talk to a
  1187. 38:43detective.
  1188. 38:45Um
  1189. 38:46God.
1190. 38:48Well, what division was it?
  1191. 38:50In Van Nuys?
  1192. 38:52Mhm.
  1193. 38:54And where was I working?
  1194. 38:56Um
  1195. 38:571986?
1196. 38:59I would have been working Devonshire.
  1197. 39:03You know, I'm thinking that I did speak
1198. 39:05to somebody. Oh, really? Okay.
1199. 39:07I couldn't tell you who it was.
  1200. 39:09Cuz it doesn't it doesn't say anything
  1201. 39:11the phone. Okay.
  1202. 39:12Um
1203. 39:13Would it been somebody in regards to
  1204. 39:15this or just
  1205. 39:16Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah. Um
  1206. 39:20I don't even know if he said a name if I
  1207. 39:21would have remembered it. Because I
1208. 39:22worked Van Nuys for a while. Oh, you
  1209. 39:24did?
  1210. 39:25Yeah, I worked um Detectives patrol?
  1211. 39:27No, we're detectives.
  1212. 39:29Uh-huh. Um
1213. 39:31When did I go to Van Nuys?
  1214. 39:33I worked Devonshire till '88. Then I
  1215. 39:36went to D.A.R.E. till '92.
1216. 39:40I worked twice at Van
1217. 39:42Um Both as detective? Yeah.
  1218. 39:49Sometime in the '90s.
  1219. 39:51Um
  1220. 39:55Yeah, I
  1221. 39:56I I know before I busted my leg up, I
1222. 39:58was there in '98 cuz that year sticks
  1223. 40:01out because I had a really bad leg
  1224. 40:02injury. Um
1225. 40:05and I was there prior to that, but I
1226. 40:07couldn't tell you what year. It was just
  1227. 40:09a few years. I made detective, I think,
  1228. 40:10in
  1229. 40:11'93.
  1230. 40:14'93.
  1231. 40:15So, um
1232. 40:18I was at Van Nuys
  1233. 40:20and then I went back, and then I had a
1234. 40:21leg injury, and then they transferred me
  1235. 40:22to Devonshire cuz I couldn't drive. Mhm.
1236. 40:25I couldn't drive very far with the my
  1237. 40:26bad leg injury.
  1238. 40:28So, um
  1239. 40:30But, yeah, I I I think I talked to
  1240. 40:32somebody.
1241. 40:33Um Do you remember any Would you
1242. 40:35remember any of the conversation as far
1243. 40:37as what they were looking for or
  1244. 40:40I couldn't say. I mean, they may have
1245. 40:42told me I said, "Hey, you know, I went
  1246. 40:44to school with him."
1247. 40:46Um I either either somebody called me or
1248. 40:48I saw the fly. I may have seen the flyer
1249. 40:51at that point, and I called up if if
1250. 40:53someone's name was on the flyer, I may
1251. 40:54have called to speak to them. I said,
  1252. 40:56"Hey, if there's anything I can do, you
1253. 40:58know, um call me. This is where I work.
1254. 41:01You know, I went to uh you know, uh
1255. 41:04school with him. Mhm. Um
  1256. 41:08Couldn't say. I couldn't tell you who it
  1257. 41:10was.
1258. 41:11But, you do remember that that someone
1259. 41:13you think reached out to you.
  1260. 41:15You mean a detective?
1261. 41:16Yeah. Called you up and talked to you.
1262. 41:19Or I called them. One of the two. But,
  1263. 41:21yeah, I
  1264. 41:22you know, I I remember talking to
  1265. 41:24somebody, but
  1266. 41:26I'm thinking it was a man.
  1267. 41:29Um I'm sure there's probably more men
1268. 41:30back then. Yeah, probably more men.
  1269. 41:33Um
  1270. 41:34Uh
  1271. 41:34So, again, that's
  1272. 41:36I mean, that's not really all I can
  1273. 41:38remember about that. Yeah.
1274. 41:41Let me get back uh to
1275. 41:44as far as when you said that uh
1276. 41:47John was calling you to to see you, and
1277. 41:49during that time you felt that he was
  1278. 41:51was
1279. 41:52felt he was either seeing her or was
1280. 41:53engaged or married. Did Did you know?
  1281. 41:56Couldn't say. You don't remember? I you
  1282. 41:58know, I don't know. Uh-huh. Um I
  1283. 42:01Did he ever appear
1284. 42:01see. My husband Did it ever appear
1285. 42:03Well, no. No, that would have been
  1286. 42:05Scott moved in in '93.
1287. 42:08So, that would have been You said '80 86
  1288. 42:10or '85 or something. Scott's your only
  1289. 42:11husband? You've never been married
  1290. 42:13before?
1291. 42:13Yeah. No, never been married. I got
  1292. 42:14married in I think '96. Well, no, I I
1293. 42:16know I got married in '96. But, he moved
  1294. 42:18in in '93. Mhm.
  1295. 42:21But, uh
1296. 42:22during that time that you were seeing
  1297. 42:24John, uh
1298. 42:25you know, was he acting kind of kind of
1299. 42:27kind of squirrely or kind of sneaking
1300. 42:29around when he'd hook up with you or
  1301. 42:30anything like that
1302. 42:32to make you think, "Hey, you may Yeah,
  1303. 42:33this
  1304. 42:34He probably was. I mean,
1305. 42:36I mean, cuz I from the impression I get
  1306. 42:38is you've known him a long time.
  1307. 42:40Well, let's see. From what early
  1308. 42:41him in '78. No, I I met him in school I
  1309. 42:44started UCLA in '78.
1310. 42:46Um So, you know him well.
1311. 42:49During that period of time. Yeah, I
1312. 42:51mean, was he acting squirrely?
  1313. 42:55You know,
1314. 42:56I don't even remember where he was
  1315. 42:57living then. You know, I
  1316. 43:00Well, after
1317. 43:02Well, let me ask you after he hooked up
1318. 43:03with uh I mean, if he was living on
1319. 43:05Roscoe or wherever else he was living.
1320. 43:07Right. Well, after he hooked up with uh
  1321. 43:10with Sherry,
  1322. 43:11do you know
  1323. 43:12where they were living?
1324. 43:14No, you asked me that already. Uh-huh.
1325. 43:16And I said, "Well, obviously they were
1326. 43:17living in Van Nuys division." Yeah.
  1327. 43:20Um
1328. 43:22I may have known. Mhm. I mean, I you
1329. 43:24know, again, I you know, did he ever
  1330. 43:26give me the address?
  1331. 43:28I I maybe.
  1332. 43:29You know, I don't remember. I mean, I
  1333. 43:31don't know
1334. 43:33Cuz the only reason I'm asking you again
  1335. 43:35is cuz we've been talking, I know some
1336. 43:37stuff has come to you cuz you're like,
1337. 43:38"Oh, she did this You know,
  1338. 43:41That's why I'm asking if you've ever
  1339. 43:42been to the house.
1340. 43:42And when you said Van Nuys division,
  1341. 43:46you know, I'm just
1342. 43:52I'm sure he could have told me. I mean,
1343. 43:53he could have told me. He could have
1344. 43:54told me where he lived. Um
1345. 43:59Did you ever have gone there?
  1346. 44:01I don't think I've ever gone there. I
  1347. 44:03just want to say I don't
1348. 44:05I don't want to say no, I've never gone
1349. 44:06there, and then you say, "Oh, I was at a
  1350. 44:07party."
  1351. 44:08Cuz I I I don't you know, I don't think
  1352. 44:11so. Yeah. Um like I said, we've got
1353. 44:14these friends. We have different We have
  1354. 44:15parties.
  1355. 44:17Um
  1356. 44:18My house, their house.
1357. 44:21I I just don't think John ever came to
  1358. 44:23any
1359. 44:24Again, you know, at what point because
1360. 44:27we we knew people from school together.
1361. 44:30I knew different people. He knew
1362. 44:31different people. I knew people that he
1363. 44:33knew from his work um
1364. 44:36you know, that lived in the Valley.
  1365. 44:38Um
  1366. 44:40You know,
1367. 44:42So, as far as for social events or
  1368. 44:43anything, I mean, it's
  1369. 44:46I mean, you're not sure if you've ever
1370. 44:47been to the house cuz
1371. 44:53But, it's safe to say that would have
1372. 44:54been the only time like for something
  1373. 44:56social.
1374. 44:58Yeah, if I went there for something
  1375. 44:59social, yeah. I mean,
1376. 45:01Because I know you you went to talk to
  1377. 45:02her
  1378. 45:04at at the hospital
1379. 45:06uh regarding this issue with John.
1380. 45:09So, you know, kind of like they you
1381. 45:10know, what's going to happen here with
  1382. 45:11this thing.
1383. 45:13But, would this ever have followed up to
1384. 45:14her house when you went to talk to her
1385. 45:16to say, "Hey, you know what?"
1386. 45:18I don't even know that I knew where they
  1387. 45:19lived. I You know, that's what I'm
  1388. 45:21saying. I don't If I knew where they
1389. 45:23lived and I'd been there if it was for
  1390. 45:25something social,
  1391. 45:27I I would I'm
  1392. 45:28And I can't say how many times I I saw
  1393. 45:30her face-to-face.
1394. 45:31You know, he lived on Roscoe. Did I ever
  1395. 45:33see her there? I don't know. I mean, I
1396. 45:36may have seen her at his apartment on
  1397. 45:38Roscoe. Mhm.
1398. 45:40I may have met her there.
  1399. 45:42Um
  1400. 45:42You know, I I mean,
1401. 45:44But, you didn't have any issues with
  1402. 45:46her, right?
1403. 45:47No, I mean, you know, obviously if he
  1404. 45:50was dating me and dating her, I I
1405. 45:51probably said, "Hey, pick." or
1406. 45:53something, you know, you know, back
  1407. 45:55then. Um
1408. 45:57I can't say that we ever screamed or
  1409. 46:00yeah you know, it's I mean, he was a
  1410. 46:02pretty mellow guy.
  1411. 46:04You know, um I think I was pretty
  1412. 46:07mellow. I I don't I don't think we had
1413. 46:09some big huge blowup to say,
1414. 46:11"Well, you know, why we stopped dating?"
  1415. 46:13or you know,
1416. 46:14and I even think that when I was dating
  1417. 46:16him, I was probably Like I said, I was
1418. 46:18probably going out with other guys, and
1419. 46:19he was probably going out with other
  1420. 46:21girls. You know, I don't know.
1421. 46:23mean, would you remember if she snapped
1422. 46:26on you and just like, "Hey, man, it's my
1423. 46:27man, you know, you get leave him alone."
1424. 46:29you know, blah blah blah, that kind of
  1425. 46:31stuff? You know,
1426. 46:34You know, would you remember an incident
1427. 46:35like that? I mean, cuz that would be
1428. 46:36like what? Well, you know, and maybe
  1429. 46:38that happened. I mean,
  1430. 46:41gosh, I you know,
1431. 46:43it's been so long ago. I You know, I
  1432. 46:45just I mean, that's not ringing a bell.
1433. 46:49Mhm. Um I mean, cuz the times I've seen
1434. 46:51you around at our office, I'm crazy. You
1435. 46:53know, but you're always kind of like
  1436. 46:54real
1437. 46:56I mean, you seem kind of bubbly. Oh, I'm
  1438. 46:58pre- I'm You know, people think I'm
  1439. 46:59really hyper. Um but, I can I mean, I
  1440. 47:02can get
1441. 47:03I can get upset. You know, and and I'm
  1442. 47:05then I forget 5 seconds later. You know,
1443. 47:07you know how guys rag you, and you go,
  1444. 47:10"Ah, you know, um
1445. 47:12I mean, I've done that in the office,
1446. 47:13you know, but it's like and then I'm you
  1447. 47:16know, and then I'm
1448. 47:17you know, Yeah. Uh you know, I mean,
  1449. 47:19people think
  1450. 47:20the bridge. Yeah, I mean, it's like
1451. 47:21people think I'm crazy, and then they
  1452. 47:23think I'm crazy at home, and I'm you
  1453. 47:25know, more I'm I'm a hyper person at
  1454. 47:27work. I'm you know, I I
1455. 47:29enjoy my job. I get excited. I you know,
  1456. 47:32um
  1457. 47:33I I enjoy the job. I've always enjoyed
1458. 47:35the job. Um Well, you got a good gig,
  1459. 47:37so.
1460. 47:38You know, um So, you know, I
  1461. 47:42I you know, I don't know. It's like I
1462. 47:44said, this stuff's been so long ago. Um
1463. 47:47You know, I'm sure as soon as I walk out
  1464. 47:48of here, I'll go, "Oh, shoot. I It's 25
  1465. 47:51things I'll remember."
1466. 47:52Um you know, But, you'll call us or I
1467. 47:54mean, you'll just come over our desk and
  1468. 47:56tell us.
  1469. 47:56I
1470. 47:57I don't know what else you need to know.
1471. 47:58Like I said, you know, we we knew
  1472. 47:59friends together.
1473. 48:01A lot of the friends that, you know,
1474. 48:03that we socialized in the dorms, I would
1475. 48:05say I mean, there was a group of us that
1476. 48:09um We were all really close. I mean,
1477. 48:11even this one guy I was thinking of, you
1478. 48:13know, um Diana Basta. We were all really
  1479. 48:16close. I haven't talked to her in a
1480. 48:18million years. Um Diana Basta being a
  1481. 48:21friend of you and John's or
1482. 48:22Yeah, we all lived on the dorms on the
  1483. 48:24dorms together. I don't know if she
1484. 48:26lived on the same we I'm trying to
1485. 48:27think. I think I know John lived on Arfa
1486. 48:30because his roommate was Dave Newman.
1487. 48:32Dave Newman now is a big huge big shot.
  1488. 48:35Whatever.
  1489. 48:36Movie producer, director, something. I
1490. 48:38don't know. Um And that was John's
1491. 48:40roommate? Yeah. And then the guys that
  1492. 48:42lived across from me,
1493. 48:44um Jim Jaskol and Roy
1494. 48:48Sakabu, Sakabu, something like that. Um
1495. 48:51they lived across from me. Um Diana
  1496. 48:53Basta,
1497. 48:56I don't know if she lived on our floor.
1498. 48:57Maybe she was the RA.
  1499. 49:00Um
  1500. 49:01Diane Sherman.
1501. 49:03Um cuz I still remain friends with Diane
  1502. 49:05Sherman.
1503. 49:06Um not that I'm not friends with the
  1504. 49:08other people. I just don't see them. Um
  1505. 49:11A gal named Smita.
  1506. 49:13Um Sally.
1507. 49:17Kathleen. You know, so we we were all on
1508. 49:20the floor. I mean, some of them were
  1509. 49:22athletes, some of them weren't. You
1510. 49:24know, I said John played basketball, his
  1511. 49:25brother played basketball. I played
1512. 49:26basketball at UCLA for 2 years. Um
1513. 49:30One of the girls swam on the team, one
1514. 49:31was on the crew team. So, we all did
1515. 49:33stuff together. Um and then I'd say
1516. 49:35after we all graduated, we went to
1517. 49:37weddings, you know, I went to weddings.
  1518. 49:40Um
  1519. 49:41Uh
1520. 49:42But Sherry wasn't part of this circle.
1521. 49:45No, I don't even know how he how he met
  1522. 49:47her. I don't even know where I mean, I
1523. 49:48don't know where he met her from. I
1524. 49:50don't even know he told me where he met
1525. 49:51her from. I mean, he may have told me. I
  1526. 49:54You know, that's not ringing a bell. Um
1527. 49:58And there was lots of many others just
1528. 50:01There was other people that knew other
  1529. 50:02people,
  1530. 50:03um
1531. 50:04you know, that were friends of
  1532. 50:05everybody's. Um
  1533. 50:09You know.
  1534. 50:11Um I mean, I don't know what else to
1535. 50:12tell you. Well, one of the concerns I
1536. 50:14have is looking at some of the notes is
  1537. 50:15uh
  1538. 50:17Some of Sherry's friends said that
1539. 50:19you and her were having a problem
1540. 50:22because of the John situation.
  1541. 50:26That's
  1542. 50:26That's
  1543. 50:27Well,
  1544. 50:28I number one, I don't know who her
  1545. 50:29friends are.
  1546. 50:31Um cuz again, I don't I don't recall if
1547. 50:34he did tell me where he met her.
1548. 50:37I don't know even who these friends are.
  1549. 50:39A problem
  1550. 50:41Like I said, if I spoke to her
1551. 50:43I mean, I'll go out as far as a limb and
1552. 50:45I don't even want to say I spoke to her
1553. 50:46five times cuz that's probably not even
  1554. 50:49true. I I I can't even remember.
  1555. 50:51Um
1556. 50:53Again, did I meet him at her place when
1557. 50:54he you know, he lived on Roscoe for I
  1558. 50:56think
  1559. 50:57a quite a while, but I couldn't tell you
1560. 50:58how long he lived on Roscoe. And the
1561. 51:00only reason I remember the place now is
  1562. 51:02because it's like a huge dope dope place
1563. 51:04now where they you know, it it may have
1564. 51:06been back then, but you know, maybe we
  1565. 51:08didn't know back then.
  1566. 51:09Um
1567. 51:10I could have met her there. I could have
  1568. 51:12you know,
  1569. 51:13uh
  1570. 51:14But I think
  1571. 51:15You know, I don't even know that I met
  1572. 51:18any of their friends.
  1573. 51:20I I I You know, I don't I I I can't say
  1574. 51:22that. I don't know that that's a true
  1575. 51:23statement. Well, that's what I'm reading
  1576. 51:25is that
1577. 51:26you guys have problems with each other
1578. 51:28and words are being exchanged and it's
  1579. 51:29all relating to John.
  1580. 51:34You know what? I I I I I just I can't
  1581. 51:37say. You can't say?
  1582. 51:38No, I That doesn't even ring a bell. I
1583. 51:40mean, I mean, it seemed like yeah, you
  1584. 51:42would recall something if somebody's
1585. 51:43going off on you, right?
  1586. 51:46I mean, I would think.
  1587. 51:48I would think.
  1588. 51:48Yeah. Um Because it's But that I you
1589. 51:52know, It seems like your relationship
  1590. 51:53with John was
  1591. 51:55kind of
  1592. 51:57I mean, you've known each other for a
1593. 51:58lot of years. Yeah, it was just kind of
  1594. 52:00It was like
1595. 52:03But it doesn't seem to me what you tell
1596. 52:05me is I mean, we were never engaged. I
1597. 52:07mean, it wasn't like we were planning to
  1598. 52:08get married. Um
1599. 52:10you know, it was like It it was
1600. 52:14I don't know how to describe it. I mean,
  1601. 52:16Would you say there wasn't a lot of
  1602. 52:18drama in this relationship?
  1603. 52:20I don't think there was drama.
  1604. 52:21Yeah, I mean, That's why I'm asking as
1605. 52:23far as what the friends are saying in
  1606. 52:24regards to
  1607. 52:26this you know, the problems they're
1608. 52:28saying you were having with with Sherry.
1609. 52:31I mean, it seems like the relationship
1610. 52:32is just going on even plane.
  1611. 52:34That just I I That I That I don't have a
1612. 52:36recollection of that at all.
1613. 52:38No. No. And cuz from what you're telling
1614. 52:40me is when you guys met at the hospital
  1615. 52:43uh
1616. 52:44I mean, you guys talked, but it wasn't
1617. 52:46from what you recall confrontational
  1618. 52:48from either side.
  1619. 52:50I I mean,
1620. 52:52I'm trying to you know, turn my memory
  1621. 52:53back, you know,
  1622. 52:55and I'm trying I can't even can't even
  1623. 52:57picture the
1624. 52:58you know, picture the the conversation.
  1625. 53:01I mean, I can't even picture the
  1626. 53:01conversation.
1627. 53:02Well, let me ask you. I mean, at the
1628. 53:03hospital it never got to the point where
1629. 53:05people are going, "Hey, hey, you know,
1630. 53:07go to everybody go to your own corner
  1631. 53:08there type of thing?" I don't think so.
  1632. 53:10Nothing like that? I don't think so. I
  1633. 53:12mean, I really don't. I mean, if you You
1634. 53:14know, if you say people said that
1635. 53:16that's not ringing a bell to me at all.
  1636. 53:17I mean, it's not. I mean, that that's
1637. 53:19not ringing a bell Was there Was there
1638. 53:21ever a time when you and Sherry were
1639. 53:23talking and John had to maybe go, "Okay,
  1640. 53:25you guys
1641. 53:26relax, you know, or anything like that?"
  1642. 53:29I don't think so.
1643. 53:31About you know, ever going to her house
  1644. 53:33and having a dispute like that.
  1645. 53:36You know,
  1646. 53:37I'm just
1647. 53:39If I met her ever at his apartment,
1648. 53:41maybe. I mean, maybe we could have met
1649. 53:43at I could have met her apartment.
  1650. 53:45I'm thinking that
1651. 53:47the hospital thing, that sounds familiar
  1652. 53:50that I I met her there.
  1653. 53:54I just can't say that I've ever
1654. 53:55Again, was I there with other people?
  1655. 53:58You know, I don't I I it I don't know.
  1656. 54:01Um I don't think I ever met her there or
  1657. 54:04him there.
  1658. 54:06Um
1659. 54:06I mean, you one or the other.
  1660. 54:08I don't think so.
  1661. 54:10I I just I can't
  1662. 54:12I don't think so. Cuz I mean, I know the
  1663. 54:14way my wife is
1664. 54:15at our house she wouldn't want my old
  1665. 54:17girlfriends there, you know. So, I don't
1666. 54:19know if maybe she had the same mentality
1667. 54:21towards you if as far as you and her
  1668. 54:23being
1669. 54:24being welcome there, you know, cuz it's
  1670. 54:26You know what?
1671. 54:28If somebody said I was there when they
  1672. 54:29were there, then that's possible, but I
  1673. 54:31just I
  1674. 54:32I don't recall. I mean, I don't think
  1675. 54:34so. I don't I It's not sounding
  1676. 54:36familiar.
  1677. 54:38Yeah, cuz I guess basically I'm asking
1678. 54:39is you know, were you ever welcome to
1679. 54:40the house like you know, "Hey, Oh, come
1680. 54:42over?" Yeah, come on over. Having a
  1681. 54:44barbecue, you know,
1682. 54:47a dinner party, Christmas party,
  1683. 54:48whatever.
  1684. 54:50I don't know. You don't know? I'm just
  1685. 54:51trying to think.
1686. 54:55You know, like I said, because there was
1687. 54:57so many of us that
  1688. 54:59the the two Dianes,
1689. 55:01um Jim Jascul, Roy, um Smita, this girl
1690. 55:04Smita, another friend of ours Beth.
1691. 55:07She uh passed It seems like everybody I
  1692. 55:09know passed passing away.
1693. 55:11Um she passed away. She was a child
1694. 55:13diabetic and and got very ill. Um We
  1695. 55:17would all socialize. Um Like I said, I
  1696. 55:19don't think John ever s-
1697. 55:21It's hard I don't want to say he never
  1698. 55:22socialized with us.
  1699. 55:24Um
  1700. 55:27You know, it it's been I I'd have to go
1701. 55:29almost go back and look at pictures
  1702. 55:30because I take pictures. I mean, I
  1703. 55:32usually when I have I go to functions,
  1704. 55:35I've 10,000 pictures, okay? I'm a
  1705. 55:37picture nut.
1706. 55:40Let me ask when you were seeing John,
  1707. 55:41would you
1708. 55:43I I take it he would pick you up in his
1709. 55:44car or you go in her you know, your car,
  1710. 55:46things of that nature
1711. 55:48when you guys would go out?
  1712. 55:50Well, yeah, I mean,
1713. 55:51Do you remember what he what he drove?
1714. 55:55Well, I know at one time he drove either
  1715. 55:57a 240 or 260Z.
1716. 56:01Any other cars that stand out in your
  1717. 56:02mind?
  1718. 56:04Mm.
  1719. 56:12Mm.
  1720. 56:14I
1721. 56:15I don't know how long he drove that 240
1722. 56:16or 260Z for. Um and the only reason I
  1723. 56:19say that is cuz I think
1724. 56:22I may have a picture of it um
1725. 56:24with him in it. Um
1726. 56:27What kind of car did you have back then?
  1727. 56:31Let's see.
  1728. 56:32What year?
1729. 56:33Or are you like one of those young cops
  1730. 56:35that's like, "Oh, I got a paycheck and
  1731. 56:36bought a new car" or
1732. 56:37No, no, no. I've only had like a few
1733. 56:38cars in my whole life.
1734. 56:40So, what you have when you came on the
  1735. 56:41job?
  1736. 56:45You know, my first car was a '68
  1737. 56:47Chevelle.
  1738. 56:49Mm, '68 Chevelle.
  1739. 56:53And then I had
  1740. 56:56a Toyota.
  1741. 57:01Mm.
  1742. 57:02Some kind of a Toyota.
  1743. 57:04Um
1744. 57:06hatchback, but I forget what the name of
  1745. 57:07it was.
1746. 57:09Um Like a Corolla or Tercel or
  1747. 57:12Tercel. Something like that.
1748. 57:13Tercel. Yeah. And then I had my truck.
1749. 57:17Did you ever have any problems with your
  1750. 57:17cars?
  1751. 57:21Like what?
1752. 57:22Just anything in general, you know, car
  1753. 57:24wrecks, anything stolen.
1754. 57:26Yeah, no, my car's never been stolen.
  1755. 57:28Oh,
  1756. 57:29no, crashed,
  1757. 57:30hit and run.
  1758. 57:32Um
  1759. 57:35uh
1760. 57:37I mean, my Tercel was hit and run. Like
1761. 57:39again, I got I got pictures of the hit
  1762. 57:41and runs. Um
1763. 57:43Yeah, I don't think any of my cars had
  1764. 57:44ever been stolen. No.
  1765. 57:46My cars haven't been stolen.
  1766. 57:49Broken into.
  1767. 57:52Um
  1768. 57:52None of that, huh?
1769. 57:53Oh, yeah, they my cars have been broken
  1770. 57:55into.
  1771. 57:56Um
  1772. 57:59you know,
1773. 58:00but no cars have ever been stolen. Mhm.
1774. 58:06How long Well, when Tell me about this
1775. 58:07uh car getting broken into.
1776. 58:10Well, my car's been broken into several
  1777. 58:11times. Oh, really?
1778. 58:14Did you ever lose anything or
  1779. 58:16Yeah.
1780. 58:18Now that you mention it,
  1781. 58:20let's see.
1782. 58:22I had a gun that was stolen. Mhm.
1783. 58:25Um I had other stuff that was stolen.
1784. 58:27Not your duty gun, was it?
  1785. 58:29No. That's good.
1786. 58:31Um Was it ever recovered?
  1787. 58:34I don't know. No, I don't think so. Not
  1788. 58:36that I know of.
  1789. 58:37Never been notified? No. Car's been
  1790. 58:39broken into
1791. 58:41Yeah, several times. Where did that
1792. 58:43happen when your gun was taken?
  1793. 58:50Trying to remember.
1794. 58:53I'm sure you guys must know.
  1795. 58:56Um
1796. 58:58Cuz my car was broken into in Ventura.
  1797. 59:04Think it's Santa Monica. I have
1798. 59:06relatives that live in Santa Monica and
  1799. 59:07Venice.
  1800. 59:09Um Who lives there?
  1801. 59:10My uncle. Well, I had I had several
  1802. 59:12uncles.
  1803. 59:13Um
1804. 59:17Yeah. Could have been Santa Monica.
  1805. 59:19Um Venice.
1806. 59:21My My car's been broken into in Ventura
  1807. 59:23before.
  1808. 59:25So.
1809. 59:26Is your mom still around or Mhm. Yeah.
  1810. 59:29Your dad?
  1811. 59:30Yeah. Like I don't really have that much
1812. 59:33of a relationship with my dad. Oh.
  1813. 59:36So,
1814. 59:37I couldn't tell you where he lives if
1815. 59:38you're you want to know. Oh, really?
  1816. 59:40No. Mhm.
  1817. 59:42Yeah, I couldn't tell you.
  1818. 59:44Well,
1819. 59:46like I said, as we were looking at the
1820. 59:47case and you know, we had read the notes
  1821. 59:49as far as from
  1822. 59:52Sherry's friend saying
1823. 59:54you you guys had problems or words and
  1824. 59:57they got heated.
1825. 59:59You know, and the reason why I'm asking
  1826. 1:00:00you is
1827. 1:00:01they mentioned that an incident at her
  1828. 1:00:02work that occurred.
1829. 1:00:04And they've also told us that an
1830. 1:00:06incident at her house occurred.
1831. 1:00:10You know what? And this is at her house
1832. 1:00:12during the period of time that they're
  1833. 1:00:14married.
1834. 1:00:17That's just not sounding familiar at
  1835. 1:00:18all. I mean, I you know what? I
  1836. 1:00:22That's just not sound I I I
1837. 1:00:24again, if someone says that I was at her
1838. 1:00:26house and I had an incident with her,
  1839. 1:00:29I you know, I that just doesn't sound I
  1840. 1:00:31I I I I
1841. 1:00:33You know, was John there? Did John say
1842. 1:00:34this happened because and other people
  1843. 1:00:36were there? I I
  1844. 1:00:37I just I don't recall. I mean, it just
1845. 1:00:40doesn't sound, you know, familiar. And
1846. 1:00:42this is an incident where you showed up,
  1847. 1:00:46you weren't supposed to show up
  1848. 1:00:48and
  1849. 1:00:49things got heated.
  1850. 1:00:50At his house? Yes.
  1851. 1:00:54It that I you know, I that just doesn't
  1852. 1:00:57sound familiar. I mean,
  1853. 1:00:59I I you know, it's not sounding
  1854. 1:01:01familiar.
  1855. 1:01:02It's not at all. Now you're saying it's
1856. 1:01:04not familiar cuz it's just something you
  1857. 1:01:05remember or it's just
  1858. 1:01:07you know what? I would have then I'd
  1859. 1:01:08have to say I don't remember cuz I don't
  1860. 1:01:10remember. I need that doesn't sound
  1861. 1:01:12familiar. I
1862. 1:01:14I mean, would you remember something
1863. 1:01:15like that in your life if Well, I would
  1864. 1:01:17think but
  1865. 1:01:18drama involving, you know,
1866. 1:01:20the other woman type of thing. Did you
  1867. 1:01:22ever fight with her?
1868. 1:01:23You mean like we fought?
1869. 1:01:24Yeah, did you ever duke it out with her?
  1870. 1:01:27No, I don't think so. I mean, You'd
1871. 1:01:29remember that, right? That would be
  1872. 1:01:30pretty Yeah, I would think so. I mean,
  1873. 1:01:33pretty specific and Yeah, like I said, I
  1874. 1:01:34mean, obviously
  1875. 1:01:37I
  1876. 1:01:38You know, I mean,
  1877. 1:01:39it just doesn't sound familiar.
1878. 1:01:42I mean, I mean, what are they saying?
  1879. 1:01:44So, I I I fought with her. So, so now I
  1880. 1:01:46mean, I I I I I'm
1881. 1:01:47getting the jump of the leap.
  1882. 1:01:50Excuse me, I haven't eaten. Um
  1883. 1:01:52they're saying, "Okay, I fought with
1884. 1:01:53her, so I must have killed her."
  1885. 1:01:55I mean, come on. I mean, that's,
  1886. 1:01:58you know,
1887. 1:02:00I don't even know who these people are.
  1888. 1:02:01I I can't even say I met any of these
  1889. 1:02:03people. I mean, that's it's insane.
  1890. 1:02:05I I
  1891. 1:02:06If it happened, I honestly don't
  1892. 1:02:08remember it.
  1893. 1:02:10That's all I can tell you. I mean,
  1894. 1:02:12I mean, both
  1895. 1:02:13I don't know if you can
1896. 1:02:14would it be something you would
  1897. 1:02:15remember? I mean, cuz it's I don't know
  1898. 1:02:17if any other
1899. 1:02:19intense incidents in your life that have
  1900. 1:02:20occurred. I mean, you'd recall those,
  1901. 1:02:22right? I mean, Well,
1902. 1:02:24like a use of force at work or car
  1903. 1:02:26crash, something you're involved in,
1904. 1:02:27you'd be like, "Yeah, I remember this."
  1905. 1:02:29I would remember. I mean, I would think
1906. 1:02:30if it was something that crazy, I mean,
  1907. 1:02:33I I I I can't say I you say, "How many
1908. 1:02:35fights have you gotten into, you know,
  1909. 1:02:37in your life?"
  1910. 1:02:39You know, I mean, a few at work.
1911. 1:02:41Well, fights at work are kind of
1912. 1:02:42different cuz we've all had uses of
  1913. 1:02:43force or whatever, but I mean,
1914. 1:02:45even had even a lot of those. I mean,
  1915. 1:02:46Right, but if you're if you're actually,
  1916. 1:02:48you know, I mean, I played
1917. 1:02:49Like if if Dan and I got mad at each
1918. 1:02:51other and we threw blows in the squad
  1919. 1:02:52room, I mean, 20 years later, I I would
  1920. 1:02:54remember it. I mean, I would think I
  1921. 1:02:56would remember it, but that's that's
  1922. 1:02:57what I'm saying, that's not sounding
  1923. 1:02:59familiar to me. At all. I mean, I
1924. 1:03:02Let me ask you. I mean, throughout your
  1925. 1:03:04life,
1926. 1:03:06you know, would you remember the number
  1927. 1:03:08of fights you've been involved in?
  1928. 1:03:10And I don't mean kind of like a bump or
  1929. 1:03:11something, just a a physical fight where
  1930. 1:03:13you
  1931. 1:03:15everybody's hitting each other,
1932. 1:03:16scratching, pulling, you know, whatever.
  1933. 1:03:19Maybe. I mean, I can't say I've been in
1934. 1:03:21a lot. You know, I played sports. Yeah.
1935. 1:03:24You know, you get into scuffles there
  1936. 1:03:25and
  1937. 1:03:26Mhm.
  1938. 1:03:27um
1939. 1:03:28And you recall some of those, right? I
  1940. 1:03:29mean, just
1941. 1:03:30Yeah, I can recall some of them.
1942. 1:03:32Game get Yeah, games get intense, you
1943. 1:03:33know. But like I said, this you saying
1944. 1:03:35this this is just not ringing a bell. I
  1945. 1:03:37mean, but you know,
  1946. 1:03:39I don't know what to tell you. It's it's
  1947. 1:03:41just that's just not ringing a bell to
  1948. 1:03:42me.
  1949. 1:03:43It'd be something I would think I would
  1950. 1:03:46remember. I mean, I'm
  1951. 1:03:48If you're in this
  1952. 1:03:49other girl's house and
  1953. 1:03:51But
1954. 1:03:51words are exchanged, I mean, you figure
  1955. 1:03:53you recall. I would think.
1956. 1:03:55Especially if it got physical, right?
  1957. 1:03:57Well, I would think. And it's really
  1958. 1:04:00relating to
1959. 1:04:01you know, a guy that you were dating and
  1960. 1:04:03but she's dating now, you know, and it's
  1961. 1:04:04just like a whole
1962. 1:04:06love triangle type of thing. I mean, you
  1963. 1:04:08figure you'd remember that, right? Well,
  1964. 1:04:09I would think.
  1965. 1:04:13So,
1966. 1:04:16I mean, I don't know what to tell you.
  1967. 1:04:17Yeah.
  1968. 1:04:18No, cuz I'm I mean, I'm trying to I'm
1969. 1:04:20looking at the notes and these people
  1970. 1:04:22are kind of
1971. 1:04:24I mean, they're pointing the finger at
  1972. 1:04:25you. Well, and
  1973. 1:04:27I mean,
1974. 1:04:28that's not ringing a bell to me, so
  1975. 1:04:31you know, I don't know you know,
  1976. 1:04:34it's
1977. 1:04:36I don't know what to tell you. I mean,
1978. 1:04:37that just sounds crazy to me. Yeah, so
1979. 1:04:39you offhand, you don't recall ever going
  1980. 1:04:41into her house and
  1981. 1:04:43having words and physically,
  1982. 1:04:45you know, No, I mean,
1983. 1:04:47attacking her, her attacking you. No.
  1984. 1:04:49Nothing like that? No, I mean, that's
  1985. 1:04:51no.
  1986. 1:04:52Nothing?
  1987. 1:04:53No.
  1988. 1:04:54No.
  1989. 1:04:55Not at all. Okay.
1990. 1:04:58Well, on some of the
  1991. 1:05:00uh on this case,
  1992. 1:05:01you know,
  1993. 1:05:02this is occurring in like '86,
  1994. 1:05:05right? Uh
1995. 1:05:06detectives processed the scene, things
  1996. 1:05:08of that nature.
  1997. 1:05:09Uh
1998. 1:05:10they did fingerprints and all that
1999. 1:05:12stuff, you know, that you you know the
  2000. 1:05:13standard stuff. I mean, you've been been
  2001. 1:05:14doing this longer than I have.
2002. 1:05:16Uh well, not about that.
  2003. 1:05:18I got 25 years on
  2004. 1:05:20going on 26. 19, so.
  2005. 1:05:23But,
2006. 1:05:25you know, as they processed everything,
2007. 1:05:27uh they did the best they could at that
2008. 1:05:28time and they looked at a lot of a lot
2009. 1:05:29of people and different things in this
  2010. 1:05:31case.
  2011. 1:05:32And you're right.
  2012. 1:05:33you guys are claiming that I'm a
  2013. 1:05:34suspect, then you know, I I got a
2014. 1:05:36problem with you know, with that. Okay.
  2015. 1:05:39Okay? So,
  2016. 1:05:41you know, if you're if you're doing this
  2017. 1:05:43as an interrogation, you're saying,
  2018. 1:05:44"Hey, I'm a suspect." Well, I now I got
2019. 1:05:46a problem with you know, now you're
  2020. 1:05:48accusing me of this.
  2021. 1:05:49Is that what you're Is that what you're
  2022. 1:05:50saying?
2023. 1:05:52We're trying to figure out what
  2024. 1:05:53happened, Stephanie.
  2025. 1:05:55I Well, I'm I was, you know, I'm just
  2026. 1:05:57saying.
  2027. 1:05:58I you know,
  2028. 1:06:00do I need to get a lawyer if you're
  2029. 1:06:01accusing me of this?
  2030. 1:06:02I
2031. 1:06:02You know, You don't have to I mean, you
2032. 1:06:04know, you're here of your own free will.
  2033. 1:06:06I mean,
  2034. 1:06:06No, well, I know, but I
  2035. 1:06:07You know, you're not you're not under
2036. 1:06:08arrest. You can walk out whenever you
  2037. 1:06:09want.
  2038. 1:06:09whenever you like. Well,
  2039. 1:06:11you know, I
2040. 1:06:12I'm trying to give you some background
2041. 1:06:13of you know, how I knew him.
2042. 1:06:15And now you're telling me that some
2043. 1:06:17somebody's saying that we had this big
  2044. 1:06:19old fight and I don't even know what
2045. 1:06:21you're talking about. Um you know, and I
2046. 1:06:23don't want to you know, get in trouble
  2047. 1:06:25for something that I didn't even do or
  2048. 1:06:27you're saying I did something.
  2049. 1:06:29Okay. We understand.
2050. 1:06:31I mean, how would you guys like it if
2051. 1:06:32the tables were turned on you?
  2052. 1:06:34I understand. No,
  2053. 1:06:35No, that's what we're telling you. I
2054. 1:06:36mean, you're free to go whenever you
2055. 1:06:37want. If if this makes you uncomfortable
2056. 1:06:39and you want to you want to
2057. 1:06:40you're starting to make me
  2058. 1:06:41uncomfortable.
2059. 1:06:42The thing is, I mean, detectives did
2060. 1:06:44what they could at that time on the
2061. 1:06:45crime scene. Okay? And and the burglary
2062. 1:06:47thing you're talking about, that is an
2063. 1:06:48angle that they looked at.
2064. 1:06:50I know, but now we're looking at
2065. 1:06:51everything else on the case cuz nobody
2066. 1:06:53was ever arrested on the case.
  2067. 1:06:55I
2068. 1:06:55I don't know that or not. Okay.
2069. 1:06:59Now, what we'd like to do is
2070. 1:07:02obviously, you know about all the DNA
2071. 1:07:03stuff and things of the nature that, you
2072. 1:07:05know, gets done on cases nowadays.
2073. 1:07:07You know, if we asked you for a a DNA
2074. 1:07:09swab, would you be willing to give us
  2075. 1:07:10one? Maybe.
2076. 1:07:13Cuz now now now Yeah, because now
  2077. 1:07:16now I'm thinking I probably need to talk
  2078. 1:07:18to a lawyer.
  2079. 1:07:19Okay. I mean,
2080. 1:07:21What? I cuz I know how this stuff works,
  2081. 1:07:23okay? Don't get me wrong, you're right,
2082. 1:07:24I have been doing this a long time.
  2083. 1:07:25Yeah. And and I wish I had been
2084. 1:07:27recording this because cuz now it sounds
  2085. 1:07:29like you know, there's
  2086. 1:07:32you know, you're telling these people
2087. 1:07:33say I'm a fighting with her and now you
2088. 1:07:35sounds like you're trying to you know,
2089. 1:07:37I've been doing this a long time.
  2090. 1:07:38Yeah, we know.
2091. 1:07:39Okay? And then and now it almost sounds
2092. 1:07:41like you're trying to pin something on
2093. 1:07:42me. Now I got that sense. Well, what it
2094. 1:07:44gets to on these on these cases and you
2095. 1:07:46know it as well as I do. Our job is to
  2096. 1:07:48identify and eliminate suspects.
2097. 1:07:49I can't believe this. So, if we ask you
2098. 1:07:51to a point to give us a DNA sample,
2099. 1:07:54a buccal swab so we can
  2100. 1:07:57identify or eliminate you,
2101. 1:07:58would you be willing to do that? Maybe.
  2102. 1:08:01Cuz I know this I I I I That's where
  2103. 1:08:03we're at, too. I mean, because
2104. 1:08:06right now, from looking at the evidence,
2105. 1:08:08it's, you know, it's possible we may
2106. 1:08:10have some DNA at the location.
  2107. 1:08:12That's great. And
2108. 1:08:15we're going to do what we can to try to
  2109. 1:08:16put this thing together.
2110. 1:08:18And your name's in the book. These
2111. 1:08:20people are pointing at you for whatever
  2112. 1:08:22reason. I don't know why. That's just
  2113. 1:08:24crazy. I mean, that's just that's
  2114. 1:08:26absolutely crazy. And
2115. 1:08:28it would be irresponsible on our part
2116. 1:08:30not to look at it.
2117. 1:08:31I know. Are you guys have to do your job
2118. 1:08:33and I guess I'm going to have to contact
  2119. 1:08:34somebody. So, That's fair. I mean,
2120. 1:08:37cuz I know how this stuff works. I mean,
  2121. 1:08:39I I I I I just can't believe it. That's
2122. 1:08:43I mean, we we understand that. I mean,
2123. 1:08:44if we were in your position, I mean, we
2124. 1:08:46would feel the same way.
  2125. 1:08:48I just can't even believe it.
  2126. 1:08:50I mean, it's just
  2127. 1:08:51I mean, I'm shocked. I'm really shocked.
2128. 1:08:54That somebody would be blame saying that
2129. 1:08:55I did this. I mean, we had a fight and
2130. 1:08:57so I went and killed her. I mean, come
  2131. 1:08:59on. Well, that's
  2132. 1:09:01Okay.
2133. 1:09:03All right. Well, thanks for giving me
  2134. 1:09:04the courtesy. I wish I
2135. 1:09:06could have recorded this. Thanks for
2136. 1:09:07your time. Yeah, thank you. All right,
2137. 1:09:09Stephanie, take care. All right.
2138. 1:11:13This is absolutely crazy. Have a seat,
  2139. 1:11:15Stephanie.
  2140. 1:11:18This is insane.
  2141. 1:11:19Okay.
  2142. 1:11:27Give me 1 second.
  2143. 1:11:32Okay.
2144. 1:11:34Stephanie, you know you have the right
2145. 1:11:35to remain silent. Do you understand?
  2146. 1:11:36Yes.
2147. 1:11:37Anything you say may be used against you
2148. 1:11:39in court. Do you understand? Yes. You
2149. 1:11:41have the right to the presence of an
2150. 1:11:42attorney before and during any
2151. 1:11:43questioning. Do you understand? Yes.
2152. 1:11:45If you cannot afford an attorney, one
2153. 1:11:47will be appointed for you free of charge
2154. 1:11:48before any questioning if you want. Do
  2155. 1:11:50you understand? Yes.
2156. 1:11:52Do you want to talk to us right now? No.
  2157. 1:11:54Okay.
  2158. 1:11:55All right.
2159. 1:11:55Okay. This is crazy. This is absolutely
  2160. 1:11:58I'm like I'm like in shock. I'm totally
  2161. 1:12:00in shock.
