Start a YouTube Channel & Change Your Life in 6 Months — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00So, when you start a YouTube channel,
- 0:02you probably have a pretty good idea of
- 0:04where you want to end up. Maybe you want
- 0:06a big audience, or a channel you're
- 0:08proud of, or maybe eventually a
- 0:10completely new life. But, the problem is
- 0:12you have no idea how to get there. And
- 0:15if I've learned one thing over the past
- 0:17few years of doing this whole [music]
- 0:18YouTube thing, is that sometimes the
- 0:20only way to figure out the right path is
- 0:22to just start [music]
- 0:24walking.
- 0:28>> [music]
- 0:31>> So, I want to start this video by
- 0:32telling you a story I never actually
- 0:33thought I'd share with anyone. So, back
- 0:36in 2022, way before I started this
- 0:38channel, I actually made a little
- 0:40self-improvement channel. And the videos
- 0:42I was making back then were genuinely
- 0:44[music]
- 0:45horrendous. And I think I posted maybe
- 0:47five or six videos before I just got way
- 0:49too embarrassed and just deleted the
- 0:51entire channel. But then, something kind
- 0:54of interesting happened. Because even
- 0:56though that channel failed miserably, I
- 0:58didn't stop making videos. I started
- 1:00experimenting with completely different
- 1:02styles and different niches. And some of
- 1:04those videos actually ended up getting
- 1:06millions of views. And eventually all of
- 1:08those weird little experiments led me to
- 1:11the channel you're watching now. And
- 1:12that's why I think the best thing you
- 1:13can do at the beginning of your journey
- 1:15as a creator [music] is literally just
- 1:18start. You don't need the perfect niche,
- 1:20the perfect idea, or some perfectly
- 1:22mapped out plan. You just need to start
- 1:25moving. Because once you actually get
- 1:27going, you can change [music] direction,
- 1:29you can try something else. You can
- 1:30figure things out as you go, but none of
- 1:33that happens if you never [music] take
- 1:35that first step. Now, once you actually
- 1:38start making videos, this is where
- 1:39things start to get interesting. Because
- 1:41I think one of the hardest things at the
- 1:43beginning is figuring out what kind of
- 1:45creator do you want to become? And
- 1:47funnily enough, the answer to that
- 1:48question becomes so obvious once you
- 1:50stop overthinking it and instead just
- 1:53figure it out as you create more videos.
- 1:55So, for example, you might make one
- 1:57video and realize, "Oh, I actually
- 1:58really love storytelling." So, you go a
- 2:01little bit more in that direction. And
- 2:03then you might make another video and
- 2:04realize, "Oh, this filming style feels
- 2:06really authentic to me." So, I'm going
- 2:08to lean into that a little bit more as
- 2:10well. And the more you do this, the more
- 2:12you create, the easier it becomes to
- 2:13discover [music] what kind of creator
- 2:15you eventually want to become. And a
- 2:17really good example of this is actually
- 2:19this channel you're watching right now.
- 2:21So, if you go back and watch my very
- 2:22first videos, they are wildly different
- 2:25from the video you're watching right
- 2:27now. And I can tell you there is
- 2:28absolutely no way that I could have
- 2:31planned this version of the channel from
- 2:33the beginning. And looking back, I am so
- 2:35glad that instead of trying to plan
- 2:37everything and overthink everything, I
- 2:39just started experimenting [music]
- 2:41and just trusted the process. But
- 2:43eventually, there's a part of this
- 2:45journey where things can start to get
- 2:46difficult. This is the part where you've
- 2:48been putting in the work for months, and
- 2:50you still feel like you're miles away
- 2:52from where you want to be. Because
- 2:54here's the thing, starting your journey
- 2:56is exciting. Reaching your goals is
- 2:58obviously exciting as well. But nobody
- 3:00really prepares you for this huge
- 3:02stretch in the middle where you're
- 3:04pouring your heart and soul into your
- 3:05videos
- 3:06>> [music]
- 3:06>> and nothing is happening. And honestly,
- 3:09this is the part where I just need to be
- 3:10completely real with you. YouTube is
- 3:13hard, like really, really hard. Making
- 3:16videos consistently that thousands of
- 3:18people want to watch is a very difficult
- 3:20skill to master, and that's just the
- 3:23truth. But I think the important thing
- 3:25to remember is just because the journey
- 3:26is difficult [music] doesn't mean that
- 3:28you're on the wrong path. Okay, so I've
- 3:31been walking for quite a while now and
- 3:32there's a lake that I'm trying to get
- 3:34to, which I think is somewhere just over
- 3:37here.
- 3:41It's funny, right? Whenever we start
- 3:43something new in life, it's very easy to
- 3:45become obsessed with
- 3:46>> [music]
- 3:46>> a destination, you know, wherever you're
- 3:48trying to get to. Like Like have some
- 3:50huge goal in your head and you spend
- 3:52[music] so much time focusing on that
- 3:54goal that you barely notice what's
- 3:56happening around you. And I do think
- 3:58this is especially true [music] when
- 4:00you're trying to become a creator
- 4:01because you can spend years chasing the
- 4:04views and the money and these big
- 4:06milestones. [music] But almost every
- 4:08single day of your journey is just going
- 4:10to be you sitting down and making
- 4:12videos. And I know [music] how cliche
- 4:14this is, but if you don't appreciate
- 4:16that part of the journey, then you're
- 4:17missing the whole point. Because then
- 4:20you could spend years building [music] a
- 4:21life that you want in the future and
- 4:23forget to enjoy the life that you
- 4:25already have.
- 4:28Okay, so if you've been watching this
- 4:29channel for a while, you've probably
- 4:31noticed that the videos I'm making now
- 4:33>> [music]
- 4:33>> are becoming very different to the
- 4:35videos I was making even a couple of
- 4:37months ago. And I want to explain why.
- 4:40So in the last few months, I've just
- 4:41reached a point where I'm kind of done
- 4:43with the whole YouTube guru, YouTube
- 4:45education stuff. You know, just sitting
- 4:47down in front of a camera every week and
- 4:49talking about how to get more views or
- 4:51how to blow up on YouTube and all this
- 4:53stuff, right? And obviously there's
- 4:54nothing wrong with those types of
- 4:55videos. It's just for me creatively, I'm
- 4:58just completely bored of it. And you
- 5:00know, recently I've been asking myself
- 5:01this question of like, what is more
- 5:03important to me? Do I care more about
- 5:05what interests me creatively and the
- 5:07things I'm passionate about or am I
- 5:09going to keep doing the same thing
- 5:10because I'm scared of failure or because
- 5:13I'm scared of what people will think.
- 5:15And I think I've made my decision on
- 5:17that now. I think I'd rather take the
- 5:19risk. I want to make more stuff like the
- 5:21video you just watched. I want to get
- 5:23better at things like storytelling
- 5:24[music]
- 5:24and filmmaking. I want to try weird
- 5:27experimental ideas that might completely
- 5:29fail. Because I've realized that the
- 5:31most important thing to me is creating
- 5:33things that feel meaningful and creating
- 5:36things that I'm genuinely proud of. So
- 5:38yeah, I guess I just want to say thank
- 5:39you to you guys who are sticking around
- 5:41[music] while I figure all of this out
- 5:42and hopefully you'll stick around for
- 5:44wherever this next version ends up going
- 5:47as well.
- 5:49>> I know sometimes life [singing] can be
- 5:52tough.
- 5:53>> [music]
- 5:57>> And you [singing] feel like
