- 1:26as a global standard of fundamental
- 1:28human rights for Universal recognition
- 1:31and protection the udhr begins whereas
- 1:35recognition of the inherent dignity end
- 1:37of the equal and inalienable rights of
- 1:40all members of the Human family is a
- 1:42foundation of freedom justice and peace
- 1:45in the world
- 1:47as implied everyone has absolute moral
- 1:50worth by virtue of being human human
- 1:53dignity is an ultimate core value of our
- 1:56existence when you fully recognize and
- 1:59appreciate this truth in ourselves and
- 2:01in all the persons around us regardless
- 2:04of your status in life then we pave the
- 2:07way for a just and Progressive Society
- 2:10it is in this kind of society that we
- 2:13are able to become fully human more free

- 2:21empowered to make choices for our
- 2:23flourishing we become more rational when
- 2:26we are able to value and apply the
- 2:28principles of logic and Science in our
- 2:30lives we become more loving when we
- 2:33ensure that human dignity lies at the
- 2:36foundation of our antiverse whether
- 2:38scientific or not it entails knowing
- 2:42one's fundamental human rights that must
- 2:44always be protected in the face of
- 2:46changing conditions
- 2:48the udhr or Universal Declaration of
- 2:51Human Rights explicates the fundamental
- 2:54human rights in 30 articles it outlines
- 2:58inalienable human rights that are vital
- 3:00and necessary in the pursuit of the good
- 3:03life these are the freedoms everyone is
- 3:06entitled to and guaranteed by virtue of
- 3:09Being Human the first article States the
- 3:12essential principle of Being Human in a
- 3:15just free and rational Society
- 3:18everyone is Born Free and equal in
- 3:21dignity and rights the common experience
- 3:24however does not always manifest such
- 3:27truth more often than not those who have
- 3:30more to offer are given special
- 3:32treatment
- 3:34The Good Life nevertheless as a life of
- 3:37Justice demands not just equal treatment
- 3:40of human beings but also preferential
- 3:42treatment to those who have less or are
- 3:45disadvantage
- 3:50the first seven articles of the udhr
- 3:53encapsulate the spirit of this so-called
- 3:56Milestone document in the history of
- 3:58Human Rights they are as follows
- 4:02Article 1 all the human beings are born
- 4:05free and equal in dignity and rights

- 5:39the law all are entitled to equal
- 5:42protection against any discrimination in
- 5:44violation of this declaration against
- 5:47any incitement to such discrimination
- 5:50the universal Declaration of Human
- 5:52Rights has a long bloody history crafted
- 5:56in 1948 after World War II the udhr now
- 6:00serves as a common understanding of what
- 6:03each person's fundamental rights are
- 6:06this rights apply to everyone everywhere
- 6:09it is imperative that we all know and
- 6:12live the strides to prevent Injustice
- 6:14and oppression moving forward we will
- 6:17now be talking about humans versus
- 6:20robots
- 6:21the rise of the Machines accompanying
- 6:23the progress in science and technology
- 6:25May render humans useless manual labor
- 6:29is gradually being replaced by machinery
- 6:32computers become more and more
- 6:34sophisticated
- 6:35robots usually design like human beings
- 6:38are created to perform complex
- 6:41repetitive or dangerous tasks with the
- 6:44development of artificial intelligence
- 6:46or AI robots may also eventually act and
- 6:50decide like humans in the possibility
- 6:53that machines adopt the nature of humans
- 6:55there is a need to reflect on the
- 6:57ethical problems posed by such
- 6:59development
- 7:01though the Philippines has not yet
- 7:03reached the point of reducing robots on
- 7:05a commercial scale for household use it
- 7:09still behooves us to ponder the
- 7:11ramifications of replacing persons with
- 7:13machinery
- 7:15much as the BBC News has reported that
- 7:17experts in South Korea are crafting
- 7:19ethical guidelines to prevent humans
- 7:22from exploiting robots and vice versa
- 7:24and that roboticists in Europe's are
- 7:27lobbying for government legislation such
- 7:30reality is generally unheard of in the
- 7:32Philippines
- 7:33for us Filipinos artificial intelligence
- 7:37or AI seems like the stuff of science
- 7:39fiction movies be that as it may its use
- 7:43in the country is surely gaining ground
- 7:45especially in the business process
- 7:48Outsourcing or BPO industry technology
- 7:52enables the growth of the BPO industry
- 7:54but it seems that it is also technology
- 7:56that will kill the industry as we know
- 7:59it investors and business people find us
- 8:02a short return of investment the use of
- 8:04business analytics provided by
- 8:07artificial intelligence
- 8:10business analytics is a means by which
- 8:13consumer and Industry data are used to
- 8:15come up with better decision making
- 8:18with the help of AI the sessions now
- 8:21arise from sophisticated statistical
- 8:24analysis made for massive data
- 8:27and as of August 2017 it is estimated
- 8:30that a million Filipino BPO workers may
- 8:33be affected and lose their jobs with
- 8:35adoption of artificial intelligence
- 8:39unemployment is only one of the many
- 8:41ethical considerations in the widespread
- 8:43use of AI what does this mean for human
- 8:46beings who can be replaced by machines
- 8:48is the value of the person inversely
- 8:51proportional to that of a machine
- 8:52exhibiting artificial intelligence
- 8:55proud big guard against mistakes
- 8:57committed by machines
- 8:59these points are but a sample of the
- 9:01questions that should be resolved with
- 9:03faced with technology that may become a
- 9:05threat to human dignity and security
- 9:08in the future when machines and robots
- 9:11become more human-like with all the
- 9:13attendant feelings and thoughts people
- 9:15may also have to consider the ethical
- 9:17treatment for AI
- 9:19it is also interesting to note that as
- 9:22machines or robots approach having a
- 9:24human-like nature humans Mayors also
- 9:27have the tendency to become machine like
- 9:28since many of the things people need
- 9:31from conveniences to information are
- 9:33available with just the touch and Swine
- 9:35open fingertips humans begin to function
- 9:38more like automatons the internet has
- 9:41become an instant go-to tool for answers
- 9:43to questions more often than not people
- 9:47accept what the search engine like
- 9:49Google spoons out invite sizes and
- 9:52forget how to process read think further
- 9:55purple things in context as the internet
- 9:58gets more intelligent we are in the
- 10:00danger of becoming less so
- 10:02in the article is Google making us
- 10:05stupid Nicholas Carr in 2008 asserted
- 10:09that as we come to rely on computers to
- 10:12mitigate our understanding of the world
- 10:13it is our own intelligence that flattens
- 10:16into artificial intelligence
- 10:18the development of society along with
- 10:21science and technology gives rise to
- 10:23more and more complex issues
- 10:27what is vital is that at the very least
- 10:30we are able to protect and exercise
- 10:32human rights for everyone in our pursuit
- 10:35of the good life it is important that
- 10:37admit this developments human beings
- 10:39become more free more rational and more
- 10:42loving in our practice of science and
- 10:44technology
- 10:45and as we examine contemporary issues in
- 10:48science and technology such as
- 10:51information genetically modified
- 10:53organisms nanotechnology and climate
- 10:56change we keep in mind that the building
- 10:58of address and Progressive Society
- 11:00entails a constant practice of the good
- 11:02it may be exhibited an exceptional
- 11:05scientific methodologies personal virtue
- 11:08social responsibility and Global concern
- 11:11that's it for our lesson in ss36 science
- 11:15technology and Society about when
- 11:17technology and Humanity cross thank you
- 11:20very much for listening and have a great
- 11:22day ahead
