4:48dean of the College of Education it is
4:50my honor to be with you today at the
4:532024 commencement ceremony we will begin
4:57with the national anthem performed by
4:59the college of arts and architecture
5:00student Anna Ferris accompanied by
5:02Center

5:28light what so so
5:30proudly we
5:32held at the
5:35Twilight last gleaming who's brought
5:38stripes and bright stars through the
5:44parous f are the red parts we
5:50watched were so
5:53gently
5:54streaming and the rocket red GL the

6:03in gave proof through the
6:08night that her flag was still
6:12there oh s do that star

6:41Brave thank you please be
6:47seated it is wonderful to be here with
6:50you all on this joyous occasion in
6:52person and on our live stream as we
6:55celebrate the accomplishments of those
6:57individuals who have completed their
6:59academic programs at Penn State
7:02commencement is always a special event
7:05but this year it's even more special
7:08this year marks the 100th anniversary of
7:10the College of Education at Penn
7:18State for a century we have stood as a
7:22beacon of academic distinction a Bastion
7:24of innovation and a champion for
7:27excellence in and through education
7:30over the past 100 years our mission as a
7:32college has always centered on one thing
7:36our
7:37students we have worked to equip you
7:39with the knowledge skills and
7:41dispositions you will need to navigate
7:43an increasingly complex and
7:45interconnected world and to advocate for
7:48a more just and Equitable Society we've
7:51empowered you to challenge the status
7:53quo to question assumptions and to lead
7:57with empathy and compassion
7:59it has been a privilege to get to know
8:01you all and an honor that you entrusted
8:04us to prepare you to be agents of change
8:06in your respective communities and
8:08Beyond and now it's your turn
8:12opportunities abound and your career
8:14paths will lead you to new and exciting
8:17places as you journey through these
8:19opportunities never forget your Penn
8:21State routes take with you those skills
8:24and dispositions that you have learned
8:27through your program and know that with
8:29them them you are poised to make a
8:31difference in our world through
8:33education continue to push the
8:35boundaries of knowledge to Champion
8:37equity and inclusion and to change
8:39education by educating for change we are
8:42so incredibly proud of everything you
8:45have already accomplished and all that
8:47is yet to come it is wonderful to
8:50celebrate with you all here
8:51today now it is my pleasure to introduce
8:54tra Tracy lenilda interim Executive Vice
8:57President and Provost of Penn State
9:07thank you Dean lws I am honored to join
9:10you in the celebration of the class of
9:142024 today's ceremony is especially
9:17meaningful in addition to your 100th
9:20birthday I know many of you were part of
9:22your high school's class of 2020 and
9:25were unable to participate in your
9:27graduation ceremonies
9:29today is your
9:31day this is your
9:45ceremony the commencement ceremony is of
9:47great
9:49importance it is patented after a ritual
9:52which has been repeated through the long
9:55history of higher education and
9:57duplicated throughout the world where
9:59ever there were universities and
10:01colleges the academic dress and ritual
10:03have their origins in the first English
10:05universities of the Middle
10:08Ages the mace is a symbol of the
10:12university and was carved from the First
10:14new Post in Old
10:17Maine the robes you wear reflect our
10:20medieval past and the caps and tassels
10:23are ancient system uh
10:26symbols commencement is steeped in
10:29history
10:31history but the spirit of
10:34commencement is modern and always
10:39changing most importantly commencement
10:41is a symbol of the outstanding
10:43achievements that you have brought to
10:45this
10:48day today is your moment and make no
10:52mistakes those tears in the eyes of your
10:53loved ones are not because they thought
10:55you would never leave this place it's
10:58genuine Pride in all your
11:00accomplishments and
11:01sacrifices you have made to get to this
11:05day you are entering a world unlike any
11:08before in our
11:10history one that is defined both by
11:12great challenges and opportunities to
11:14continue making our society safer more
11:17secure more inclusive and more Equitable
11:20than ever before I hope you will
11:22consider how your degree equips you to
11:25contribute to the shared Collective
11:27effort of building a better world
11:30now I'll turn it back to Dean
11:35Lis thank you Dr
11:38lenilda and now it is my privilege to
11:41introduce today's commencement speaker
11:43Dr khed and mumin Secretary of the
11:47Pennsylvania Department of Education for
11:50over 25 years secretary mumin has served
11:53various capacities as a teacher dean of
11:56students principal and Central
11:58administrator
12:00most recently secretary mumin served as
12:02the superintendent of schools in lower
12:04Maran School
12:05District prior to lower Maran Dr mumin
12:09was the superintendent of reading school
12:12district for seven years beginning as a
12:15secondary English teacher in Scotland
12:17Pennsylvania in 1997 secretary mumin
12:20Rose through the leadership ranks of the
12:22education system in
12:24Pennsylvania secretary mumin is
12:26committed to promoting and sustaining
12:28student achievement
12:29equity and access to educational
12:31programming for all students as well as
12:34creating plans that are fiscally
12:37responsible he has been recognized
12:39nationally as a Schoolboard Savvy
12:42superintendent and is the author of a
12:44book entitled Problem Child leading
12:47students living in poverty toward
12:49infinite possibilities of
12:51success secretary mumin earned his
12:54Doctorate in Education and educational
12:56leadership from the University of
12:58Pennsylvania a master's of Education in
13:00teaching and curriculum from the
13:02Pennsylvania State University a Bachelor
13:05of Arts in secondary English education
13:08from Shippensburg University and an
13:10associate degree of Arts in English from
13:13Northeastern Christian Junior
13:16College secretary

13:45yes as stated earlier I am Secretary of
13:49Education uh Dr Khaled mumin and I'm
13:52honored to congratulate you on this
13:55momentous
13:57occasion I need you to do a favor in
14:00take a deep breath take a deep breath
14:03you've made it all that you've been
14:06working toward has finally come to
14:09fruition as you reflect on this
14:13Milestone I hope you feel a sense of
14:16pride and joy in what you have
14:18accomplished because your cause for
14:21celebration is certainly earned and well
14:26deserved the days the week weeks and
14:29years you spent working toward this very
14:32moment has paid off you've studied hard
14:36set goals worked diligently and stayed
14:41focused the assignments the papers the
14:45projects and time spent in class those
14:49times are over for now and you now join
14:53a network of alumni representing the
14:57incredible Legacy and impact of the
15:01Pennsylvania State
15:03University serving as a role model for
15:06both current and future
15:09students as all of us gathered here
15:12today know education is the key to
15:16unlocking your full potential it
15:18provides you with the necessary skills
15:21knowledge and opportunities to succeed
15:24in life it opens doors to new
15:28experiences
15:29broadens your perspective and helps you
15:32develop critical thinking skills it is
15:36one of the best investments you can make
15:39in yourself and in your
15:43future each and every one of you had a
15:47unique journey to arrive at this very
15:50moment even when faced with challenges
15:53and setbacks your perseverance and
15:57determination help you to
15:59overcome obstacles it can be difficult
16:03to balance your work school and personal
16:07commitments but you stayed focused on
16:09your goals and responsibilities and have
16:12done something truly
16:14amazing please please take some time to
16:18appreciate your journey this is this is
16:21a big deal learning is a powerful a
16:25powerful tool one that can change the
16:28world it provides us with the Knowledge
16:30and Skills to solve problems innovate
16:33and make a positive impact on society
16:36and now as our future Educators you'll
16:40be able to pass that gift On to the Next
16:44Generation as this chapter of your
16:46journey draws to a close remember again
16:48to celebrate celebrate your
16:50accomplishments big and small and use
16:53those accomplishments as
16:56motivation because Success is Not a
16:59one-time
17:00event but a continuous process of
17:03development and
17:04growth today's commencement represents
17:07the beginning of the next steps in your
17:09journey and this journey will require
17:11another level of ferocity goal setting
17:15planning and having the ability to
17:17complete and succeed in our global
17:21economy but with every Pathway to
17:23success while there may be challenges
17:26there are also
17:27opportunities circumstances that will
17:30lead you to adapt to Pivot to adjust
17:34your attitude as you align yourself
17:37again to reach your goals this next
17:41phase is going to take grit patience
17:45perseverance confidence and most
17:49importantly step back and take time for
17:52selflove
17:54self-love you have proven the ability to
17:56deal with complexities and pursuit of
17:58achievement a m you have walked The Road
18:00Less Traveled and find yourself now
18:02looking toward your destination maybe
18:05the destination is already clear on the
18:08horizon or maybe your path will take a
18:11few twists and a few turns either way my
18:15advice to you is to continue filling
18:18your toolkit with things that inspire
18:21you positive images quotes and people
18:25who encourage you and help keep your
18:27eyes focused on the
18:29rise now no matter no matter where
18:32you're going where you are
18:35now has led you to
18:38success don't be fooled by becoming
18:41complacent there's still much work to be
18:44done so make sure to have a plan and
18:47make sure that plan is a personal plan
18:50for you make sure to thank your people
18:54who have and will continue to support
18:56you on your journey take time to
19:00appreciate all of this support that you
19:02have around
19:04you and I think it's due to give them a
19:06round of applause cuz they hung in there
19:08with
19:09you give it up for the parents give it
19:11up for the siblings the relatives and
19:14[Applause]
19:17friends and one of the most important
19:19pieces especially as an educator
19:22remember as you continue on your
19:25journey take the time to pay it forward
19:28reach back and give a hand to those who
19:31are coming up behind you today we
19:34celebrate you and congratulate you I
19:37encourage you to continue to reach for
19:39greatness and keep learning and keep
19:41growing and keep challenging yourselves
19:44I have no doubt that what comes next for
19:47you is going to be a dynamic and
19:50exciting
19:51Journey may your path be filled with joy
19:55success and fulfillment your future is
19:58full full of possibilities and I have no
20:02doubt you will achieve great things so
20:05class of
20:062024 let's make some noise and celebrate
20:09this moment because we
20:12are we
20:13are we

20:31mumin now I welcome provos lenilda back
20:34to the
20:39podium and now class of 2024 we turn to
20:43the Board of Trustees the legal
20:46corporate body of the Pennsylvania State
20:48University this is the body that by our
20:51Charter is given the final
20:53responsibility for the governance
20:55welfare and all other interests
20:57pertaining to the university
20:59at this time I call upon trustee
21:02secretary khed mamin to authorize the
21:05conferring of degrees at this
21:07ceremony after being nominated by the
21:09student trustee selection committee
21:12secretary khed mine was elected to the
21:14Board of Trustees effective January 17th
21:182023 we are very pleased that he is with
21:21us today truste my
21:32thank you so
21:34much I offer my congratulations to the
21:37class of
21:382024 their families and their friends as
21:43Penn State Alumni you have a say in the
21:46future direction of the university all
21:49Penn State Alumni May participate in the
21:51nomination and election process for
21:53alumni alumni elected members of our
21:56Board of Trustees this is one of the
21:59many opportunities you will have
22:00throughout your lives to remain active
22:03of this Penn State Community that we all
22:06love please stay engaged now I turn to
22:11my official
22:14duty this is
22:17exciting by virtue of the authority
22:20vested in me and as approved by the
22:24Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania
22:27State University
22:29you are authorized on behalf of the
22:31board to confer on each of these
22:35candidates the degree earned as
22:37certified by the appropriate College
22:40faculty and
22:45[Applause]
22:52Dean thank you truste mine for the
22:55authorization to confer degrees for
22:57these candidates
22:59assembled before we proceed with the
23:01conferral of degrees please note that
23:03Penn State is recognizing our graduates
23:05who are actively serving veterans and
23:08graduates of our Roc programs with
23:11special red white and blue honor cords
23:13for their service and
23:15sacrifices at this time I would like to
23:17ask all graduates who are embarking on
23:20military service and Veteran students
23:22who have served our country to please
23:24stand if you are able and remain
23:26standing

24:07contributions to our nation you may be
24:10seated I also want to take a moment to
24:12recognize another group of students with
24:14us today our first generation college
24:17students who are on the cusp of becoming
24:20first generation pennate
24:23alumni our first generation students are
24:26pioneers within their families and Trail
24:28blazers at our University they face
24:31unique challenges not shared by many of
24:33their peers and their tenacity in the
24:35pursuit of Education academic excellence
24:38and personal and professional
24:40achievement is a model to which we can
24:42all Aspire please join me in
24:45congratulating their students on their
24:47momentous accomplishment today

1:01:4911,000 course offerings these graduates

1:01:54contributions to our nation
1:01:56and to the world in countless ways will
1:01:59all undergraduate degree candidates in

1:03:24introduce you to Dr Jonathan klingerman
1:03:26who is representing the Penn State
1:03:28Alumni
1:03:29Association and the College of Education
1:03:32alumni Society to induct these new
1:03:34graduates into the
1:03:36association Dr klingaman is the current
1:03:38president of the College of Education
1:03:40alumni Society board of directors he
1:03:43earned his bachelor's degree in
1:03:45secondary education and journalism from
1:03:47Penn State a master's degree in Science
1:03:50Education from Duane University and a
1:03:53master's degree in education and
1:03:54educational leadership from California
1:03:56University of Pennsylvania he most
1:03:59recently finished his doctoral degree in
1:04:01educational leadership and
1:04:02administration at Point Park
1:04:04University Jonathan is the director of
1:04:07federal programs and gifted services at
1:04:10the co State College Area School
1:04:12District previously he was an ele uh an
1:04:15English teacher A Gifted support teacher
1:04:18and an elementary principal Dr klingaman
1:04:21is a lifetime member of the Penn State
1:04:23Alumni Association

1:04:43celebrates your successes and welcomes
1:04:45you into this very proud network of Penn

1:04:50174,000 in alumni and friends like you
1:04:53keep their connection to our world class
1:04:55University strong through membership in
1:04:58the Penn State Alumni Association with
1:05:00your graduation the Alumni Association
1:05:03is pleased to present you all with a
1:05:04free one-year
1:05:06membership your membership will keep you
1:05:09in touch with the Penn State and
