SPONGEBOB CONSPIRACY #8: The Time Traveling Ghost Pirate Theory — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00All right, so this time instead of
- 0:02ending with the big twist, I'm just
- 0:03going to open with it. The Flying
- 0:05Dutchman is the ghost of Patchy the
- 0:08Pirate. This is a claim that makes
- 0:10absolutely no sense. They look
- 0:11different. They act different. And most
- 0:13importantly, Patchy the Pirate is alive
- 0:15at the same time we see the Flying
- 0:17Dutchman. It would be impossible to
- 0:19prove that they're the same person,
- 0:21right? Well, you know, I like a
- 0:24challenge. This is the timetraveling
- 0:26ghost pirate theory.
- 0:28[Music]
- 0:32You mean the big tentacle monster in my
- 0:35basement?
- 0:36Yeah.
- 0:37How do you know about that?
- 0:39I have one, too.
- 0:41What?
- 0:42[Music]
- 0:45So, when you say you have a muse, you
- 0:48mean you also have a creepy monster
- 0:50thing in your basement giving you
- 0:52Spongebob theories?
- 0:53Well, no. It didn't give me Spongebob
- 0:55theories. It got me my commercial jobs.
- 0:57I didn't even know there was more than
- 0:59one. I have like a thousand questions
- 1:00right now. Like, what exactly are they?
- 1:02Where do they come from? What do they
- 1:03want?
- 1:04Oh. Um, I probably don't know that much
- 1:06more than you. Mine just showed up in my
- 1:08house one day and eventually it left.
- 1:11Wait, yours left? As in you don't have a
- 1:14muse?
- 1:15No, I just kept giving mine meat, got me
- 1:18a permanent job, and then it left.
- 1:21Listen, I know they seem really weird
- 1:24and creepy at first, but honestly,
- 1:27they're just here to help.
- 1:28But didn't you have to feed yours like
- 1:30more than just meat?
- 1:32No. What have you been feeding yours?
- 1:35Mine ate a cat.
- 1:37Hang on. You gave your muse a cat?
- 1:38I didn't feed it the cat. Okay. It was
- 1:40in my home and then it took it. Okay. It
- 1:42wasn't my fault.
- 1:43Okay. Well, obviously you don't have a
- 1:45cat in your home when you have a muse.
- 1:47Listen,
- 1:49just keep giving it meat and eventually
- 1:51it'll leave you with enough Spongebob
- 1:53theories to last you for years.
- 1:56[Music]
- 2:10Hey, so I've been thinking about things
- 2:14and um I'm willing to continue our
- 2:18relationship, but things have to be very
- 2:22different this time. No more eating
- 2:24living animals. Let's just stick to the
- 2:26storebought meat. Okay.
- 2:34Oh, okay. Uh great. Glad we're on the
- 2:38same page. You know, I'm I'm sorry about
- 2:41all the shouting and the craziness. You
- 2:44know, I won't have anything against you
- 2:45personally. I think if we just
- 2:47communicated better, we could have, you
- 2:49know, avoided a lot of the issues that
- 2:50we were having. But I'm glad we finally
- 2:53have an understanding.
- 2:56[Music]
- 3:09All right, the timetraveling ghost
- 3:11pirate theory. That's the uh that's the
- 3:14real title we're going with. Uh, sure.
- 3:16Fine, whatever. Now, before we begin, I
- 3:18just want to say how thankful I am for
- 3:19all the support on these Spongebob
- 3:21theories. These videos have uh
- 3:23definitely changed my life. So, to give
- 3:25a little bit back to the community
- 3:27today, I'd like to support a small
- 3:28independent company out there that
- 3:29you've probably never even heard of.
- 3:31That's why today's video is sponsored by
- 3:33a tiny little indie game called
- 3:35Rage Shadow Legends. Raid Shadow Legends
- 3:38is the most intense epic game in the
- 3:41entire world. Look at these games. All
- 3:43these games compared to Raid Shadow
- 3:44Legends, they're a bunch of stupid baby
- 3:47games. That's what they are. Raid has
- 3:48hundreds of unique characters, bosses,
- 3:50and clans. And it's all completely free
- 3:52to play on mobile and PC. What? and they
- 3:55are constantly adding new content like
- 3:57the Shadowkin faction, the Doom Tower
- 3:59game mode, and of course, the new boss
- 4:01battle, the Hydra. Now, me personally,
- 4:04my guy is Barth the Blood Soaked. He's
- 4:07got the cool axes. He's covered in
- 4:08blood. You know, he may not be the
- 4:10flashiest guy, but just look at him go.
- 4:12He's got heart. And to celebrate Raid's
- 4:143-year anniversary, they've added tons
- 4:16of new events and free gifts all this
- 4:18month. By using the promo code 3 years
- 4:20rage, you'll get over $25 worth of free
- 4:23gifts. And if you use the link in the
- 4:24description or scan my QR code, new
- 4:27players will get a starter pack worth
- 4:28almost $40 full of free champions and
- 4:31experience bruise. That is a deal you
- 4:33cannot miss.
- 4:36So scan the QR code.
- 4:40Do it.
- 4:42I can wait.
- 4:44Video doesn't start till you scan it.
- 4:48Do it.
- 4:50I don't get paid until you scan the QR
- 4:52code. So, we're not starting the video
- 4:54until you scan the QR code.
- 4:59Did you do it?
- 5:01Okay, I'm trusting you. Um, I guess we
- 5:04can start the video now.
- 5:10[Music]
- 5:14Before I get into how these characters
- 5:15connect, I have to explain the tragic
- 5:17backstory of Patchy the Pirate.
- 5:20I'm Patchy the Pirate, the president of
- 5:22the Spongebob Squarepants fan club.
- 5:24Patchy the Pirate is the president of
- 5:26the Spongebob Fan Club, and they often
- 5:27cut to him during special episodes to
- 5:29host the show and talk to the audience.
- 5:31He fits in perfectly with my television
- 5:33theory and clearly works for the in
- 5:35universe Spongebob Squarepants
- 5:36showrunners as some kind of mascot for
- 5:38the show.
- 5:39Boring. Well, if it isn't my less than
- 5:42amusing sidekick, Potty the Parrot.
- 5:44Patchy is this weird lonely guy whose
- 5:46only friend is a talking parrot who's
- 5:48constantly harassing him. And I'm also
- 5:50pretty sure Patchy wants to eat him.
- 5:52Shiver me timbers. It's party.
- 5:56I wonder what parrot tastes like.
- 5:58But that's not what this theory is
- 5:59about. If you rewatch all the episodes
- 6:01with Patchy, you start to notice a bit
- 6:03of a disturbing development with his
- 6:05character. Patchy has devoted his entire
- 6:07life to Spongebob. But that devotion is
- 6:10very one-sided. And the more time that
- 6:12goes on, the more resentful Patchy
- 6:14becomes of Spongebob. In the season 3
- 6:17episode Party Pooperpants, Patchy throws
- 6:19a house party and tries to invite
- 6:20Spongebob, but he doesn't show up.
- 6:22Say, you didn't bring Spongebob with
- 6:24you, did you? Gee, I sure hope he got
- 6:27his invitation. I'd sure like to go to
- 6:29this party, but I can't read the
- 6:31invitation.
- 6:32But Patchy doesn't really seem to be
- 6:34that upset about it.
- 6:35I will.
- 6:36But then things start to take a turn in
- 6:38the episode The Sponge Who Could Fly.
- 6:40Patchy follows a map and goes on a crazy
- 6:42adventure to find the legendary lost
- 6:44Spongebob episode. And after finally
- 6:46getting it, this is what plays.
- 6:54That's it. That's the last episode. That
- 6:58was just a bunch of cheap walk cycles.
- 7:01What a rip.
- 7:02So, Patchy got let down by Spongebob
- 7:04again, but I'm sure he'll get over it
- 7:06just like last time.
- 7:09Spongebob betrayed us.
- 7:12I'm sorry I ever started this stupid fan
- 7:15club in the first place.
- 7:17Patchy has a fullon mental breakdown.
- 7:20Now, eventually he does find the real
- 7:22lost episode and goes back to normal.
- 7:24But this is just the start of Patchy's
- 7:26transformation into a much darker
- 7:28character. In the season 6 episode,
- 7:30Truth or Square, Patchy throws a massive
- 7:32television extravaganza to celebrate 10
- 7:34years of Spongebob. There is a ton of
- 7:36production value in celebrities that
- 7:38Patchy managed to get. There is no way
- 7:40Spongebob wouldn't show up for it.
- 7:42Spongebob
- 7:44Squarepants.
- 7:47What do you mean he's not coming? 10
- 7:50years I've been president fan club.
- 7:53Patchy has dedicated 10 years of his
- 7:55life to Spongebob and he can't even be
- 7:57bothered to show up once. And this never
- 7:59even gets resolved in the episode
- 8:01either. Patchy tries to find Spongebob.
- 8:03Thinks he's about to meet him. But then
- 8:04it turns out it was all just a dream.
- 8:06Mister, are you okay?
- 8:08Spongebob?
- 8:10No, it's just me, the guy and the penny.
- 8:13Patchy's one-sided obsession with
- 8:14Spongebob is making him delusional. And
- 8:17this is by no means the last time Patchy
- 8:19will hallucinate meeting Spongebob. In
- 8:21Atlantis Square Pantis, Patchy gets lost
- 8:23in the desert and once again
- 8:25hallucinates Spongebob. Uh-oh, here come
- 8:28the hallucinations.
- 8:32It's me, Spongebob Squarepants.
- 8:38But then in Spongebob's big birthday
- 8:40blowout, it seems like he finally really
- 8:42does meet Spongebob
- 8:43from your biggest fan. I have a fan.
- 8:47Surprise!
- 8:49It's Patchy the Pirate. Happy birthday,
- 8:52Spongebob.
- 8:53Thank you, Patchy. But even if they
- 8:55don't explicitly say it, this is
- 8:57definitely another hallucination. It's
- 8:59right after he crashed into an island
- 9:01and he's just a severed head for some
- 9:03reason and he can breathe underwater.
- 9:05Yeah, I'm going to say that this is a
- 9:06hallucination. They have another alleged
- 9:08meeting in Spongebob's Road to Christmas
- 9:10special, but this time Patchy's fully
- 9:12animated for some reason. So, I'm pretty
- 9:15skeptical about this one, too. In fact,
- 9:17I'm going to come back to this one. Keep
- 9:18it in mind because it's going to be very
- 9:20important later on. So, as much as
- 9:22Patchy worships Spongebob and wants to
- 9:24meet him, he never will. And you don't
- 9:26have to take my word for it either. In a
- 9:282009 Wondercom panel with some of the
- 9:30actors and creators of Spongebob, they
- 9:32talk about the rules they have for
- 9:33writing the show, including the fact
- 9:35that Patchy can never meet Spongebob.
- 9:37His character is has evolved into this
- 9:40pirate that's obsessed with Spongebob.
- 9:43Well, they can never meet, right?
- 9:44Well, yeah, they can never meet. There's
- 9:46there's a lot of rules in Spongebob
- 9:47which are there for a reason. It's part
- 9:49of the success in a way.
- 9:51From the very start of his creation,
- 9:53they doomed Patchy to be an obsessed fan
- 9:55who would never meet his idol. He will
- 9:57spend the rest of his life devoted to
- 9:59Spongebob. But no matter how hard he
- 10:01tries, he will never reach Bikini Bottom
- 10:04and he will never meet Spongebob. And
- 10:06unfortunately, that is the tragic story
- 10:09of Patchy the Pirate.
- 10:11But if all of that's true, then I just
- 10:14have one lingering question. How come
- 10:17the dumpster behind the Krusty Krab has
- 10:19a message that reads Patchy was here?
- 10:23Don't go anywhere because the time
- 10:25traveling ghost pirate theory is about
- 10:27to get crazy.
- 10:51[Music]
- 11:01[Music]
- 11:18[Music]
- 11:32[Music]
- 12:27I'll come back to this message later,
- 12:29but first we have to talk about the
- 12:31mysterious origins of the Flying
- 12:33Dutchman. The Flying Dutchman is the
- 12:35legendary ghost pirate that haunts
- 12:36Bikini Bottom.
- 12:37In a pirate ship, the Flying Dutchman
- 12:40descends on Bikini Bottom.
- 12:42The first time we hear about the Flying
- 12:43Dutchman is in the episode Squidward the
- 12:45Unfriendly Ghost when Spongebob finds a
- 12:47comic book about his origins.
- 12:49It's the origin of the Flying Dutchman.
- 12:51It says when he died, they used his body
- 12:54as a window display. Now he haunts the
- 12:56seven seas because he was never put to
- 12:59rest.
- 12:59Now, I've always been a little skeptical
- 13:02about this origin. Not just because it's
- 13:04claiming they put an actual human corpse
- 13:05up as display in a kid store, but
- 13:07because the Flying Dutchman himself
- 13:09contradicts it.
- 13:10It's a little torn. Of course, it was
- 13:13the shirt I was buried in.
- 13:14He was never put to rest.
- 13:16If he was buried, then this origin can't
- 13:18be true. So, who is the Flying Dutchman
- 13:21actually? Well, when I rewatched all the
- 13:23episodes with the Flying Dutchman, I
- 13:25kept noticing that he seems to have some
- 13:27kind of fixation with Spongebob in
- 13:29particular. In the episode Shanghide, he
- 13:31drops his anchor on Spongebob's home,
- 13:33which leads to him having to briefly
- 13:34join the Dutchman's crew. Then, in Born
- 13:36Again Krabs, he's about to take Mr.
- 13:38Krab's soul, but then immediately
- 13:40changes his mind when Spongebob offers
- 13:42his soul instead. And even in the Camp
- 13:44Coral prequel show, he haunts Spongebob
- 13:46as a kid. But strangest of all, in Ghost
- 13:49Host, the Dutchman's ship gets
- 13:51destroyed. And out of all the places in
- 13:52Bikini Bottom he could stay, he decides
- 13:54to stay with Spongebob. my location
- 13:58where I'll be staying. Business or
- 14:00residence?
- 14:02Residence.
- 14:04And look at the way he mischievously
- 14:06smiles when he sees Spongebob. It feels
- 14:08like this is personal for him. But why?
- 14:11The episode Ghost Host is actually the
- 14:12first time we get a bit more depth for
- 14:14the Flying Dutchman's character. At
- 14:15first, he spends all of his time
- 14:17torturing Spongebob, but eventually he
- 14:19just wants to stay and hang out with
- 14:21him. Maybe stay with a friend for a
- 14:23while. Just for a little while longer.
- 14:26Even though his ship's already been
- 14:28repaired for 3 months.
- 14:29Actually, I have a confession.
- 14:31Spongebob, my ship's been done for 3
- 14:33months now.
- 14:34It feels like the Dutchman has some kind
- 14:36of vendetta against Spongebob
- 14:38specifically, but also deep down, he's
- 14:40just lonely and wants to be Spongebob's
- 14:42friend. And does that remind you of
- 14:44anyone? Someone who's desperate to be
- 14:47Spongebob's friend, but also has a deep
- 14:49resentment towards him. Okay, but
- 14:51there's like a bunch of reasons why the
- 14:53Flying Dutchman couldn't be the ghost of
- 14:55Patchy the Pirate. I mean, for starters,
- 14:57they look totally different, right?
- 14:59Different shirt, different hat, and most
- 15:01importantly, the Dutchman doesn't have
- 15:02the iconic hook and eye patch that
- 15:04Patchy does. This is the point where I
- 15:06was about to give up and scrap this
- 15:08theory. But then I decided to rewatch
- 15:10the season 1 episode, Arg, where
- 15:12Spongebob plays a board game called The
- 15:13Flying Dutchman's Treasure that's
- 15:15actually based on the Flying Dutchman's
- 15:17real map. The Flying Dutchman's Treasure
- 15:19Hunt
- 15:20based on a real treasure map.
- 15:22And then I noticed something. One of the
- 15:24game cards actually shows a picture of
- 15:26the Flying Dutchman. I mean, look, he
- 15:28clearly has the same nose and face as
- 15:30him. But this looks like a picture of
- 15:32when he was still alive and had a darker
- 15:34black beard. But the hat he's wearing is
- 15:36not the usual Flying Dutchman hat. It is
- 15:39the exact same hat Patchy the Pirate
- 15:41wears. Okay, but he still doesn't have
- 15:44the eye patch in the hook hand, right?
- 15:46Well, yeah, but here's the thing.
- 15:48Neither does Patchy. Patchy's hook is
- 15:51always switching hands, and he
- 15:52constantly takes off his eye patch
- 15:54because Patchy isn't a real pirate. He's
- 15:57just pretending to be one.
- 15:58The great thing about Patchy is that he
- 15:59lives in Inino, California,
- 16:03but he's a pirate.
- 16:05But the only thing that makes him a
- 16:06pirate is that he says he's one and
- 16:08dresses like one.
- 16:09Okay, fine. But but the shirt the shirt
- 16:11is still very different. You know, the
- 16:13the Dutchman's is all open and it's got
- 16:15those stripey things. Patches is more
- 16:17fancy with the big white puffy collar
- 16:19and cuffs. Well, in the curse of Bikini
- 16:21Bottom, we see the Flying Dutchman's
- 16:23closet and he pulls out the exact same
- 16:25shirt that Patchy wears. Same fancy
- 16:28puffy collar, same cuffs. Fine. Okay,
- 16:31maybe Patchy the Pirate and the Dutchman
- 16:33look the same, but that doesn't mean
- 16:35they're the same person. It's time we
- 16:37address the elephant in the room. The
- 16:39Flying Dutchman can't be Patchy's ghost
- 16:41because Patchy is alive at the same time
- 16:44we see the Flying Dutchman. Like, in
- 16:46order for this theory to be true, Patchy
- 16:48would have to die and then the
- 16:49Dutchman's ghost would show up. But
- 16:50they're simultaneously existing at the
- 16:53same time. Patchy even shows up during
- 16:55an episode all about the Flying
- 16:56Dutchman. And he even calls it his
- 16:58favorite episode. We're going to see me
- 17:01favorite show, Shanghai. Tada. It is
- 17:04physically impossible for Patchy and the
- 17:06Dutchman to be the same person. Or is
- 17:08it? Things are about to get stranger.
- 17:14Thank you once again for supporting us
- 17:16at Happy Meat Farms. Together, we're
- 17:19building a better future.
- 17:22Cut. Um, let's move on.
- 17:32Hey, Victoria. Uh, I tried to work
- 17:34things out with the muse like you said
- 17:35and then I'm pretty sure it like bit me
- 17:37or something and now I'm like feeling
- 17:38really weird and craving raw meat. Uh,
- 17:40could you just call me back please? I'm
- 17:42starting to freak out a little bit.
- 17:53[Music]
- 17:59Victoria, where have you been? I've been
- 18:01trying to call you all day.
- 18:03Hey, sorry I'm at work.
- 18:05Okay, so like the muse like bit me, I
- 18:07think, and now I'm like craving raw meat
- 18:09and
- 18:10Yeah, I know. I got your messages. Just
- 18:12calm down. This is a good thing.
- 18:13How is this a good thing?
- 18:15Means it's almost over.
- 18:17Okay, here's what I need you to do.
- 18:21[Music]
- 18:36When I rewatched all the episodes with
- 18:38the Flying Dutchman, I noticed something
- 18:40strange. In the season 7 episode, The
- 18:42Curse of Bikini Bottom, the Dutchman
- 18:44gets a girlfriend, but starts to freak
- 18:45out when she wants to get married.
- 18:47She wants to marry me. I ain't the
- 18:49Marian type.
- 18:51But the Dutchman not being the Marian
- 18:53type isn't entirely true. Back in season
- 18:553 during Ghost Host, we see that the
- 18:57Dutchman was once married. Is that a
- 19:00wedding ring?
- 19:02Oh, this holds nothing.
- 19:03All right, but so what? You know, this
- 19:05just seems like a small continuity error
- 19:07between seasons. No surprise for
- 19:09Spongebob. But in the season 6 special,
- 19:12Spongebob versus the Big One, there's an
- 19:13even stranger moment like this. The
- 19:15Flying Dutchman bumps into Mr. Krabs and
- 19:18says this to him.
- 19:20It's a flying Dutchman.
- 19:22It's some guy I've never seen before.
- 19:24He says he's never met Mr. crabs before,
- 19:26but there are two whole episodes from
- 19:28previous seasons dedicated to the
- 19:30Dutchman trying to steal Mr. Krab's soul
- 19:32for being too greedy. They're even on a
- 19:33first-name basis.
- 19:35Eugene Krabs, some guy I've never seen
- 19:38before.
- 19:39All right, so another weird
- 19:40inconsistency with the Dutchman, but I'm
- 19:42still not convinced that it's not just
- 19:44lazy writing, but back in the Curse of
- 19:45Bikini Bottom, there's a moment that
- 19:47cannot be written off as another
- 19:49continuity error. Spongebob and Patrick
- 19:51accidentally shave off the Dutchman's
- 19:53beard, and the Dutchman claims their
- 19:54beard won't grow back for another
- 19:55thousand years.
- 19:57Your beard will just grow back.
- 19:59You know nothing of my facial hair.
- 20:01It'll take a thousand years for my beard
- 20:03to grow back.
- 20:04But by the end of the episode, we cut to
- 20:06several months later and his beard is
- 20:08back.
- 20:09The curse will wear off when my beard
- 20:11grows back.
- 20:12Several months later,
- 20:14she wants to marry me.
- 20:16It's not like this is just some plot
- 20:17point they forgot about between
- 20:18episodes. This several months later is
- 20:21in the same episode where the Dutchman
- 20:22says the beard takes a thousand years to
- 20:24grow back.
- 20:25It'll take 1,000 years for my beard to
- 20:27grow back.
- 20:28Several months later.
- 20:30Why the [ __ ] would they include this
- 20:32line if they were just going to
- 20:34contradict it a few minutes later in the
- 20:35same goddamn episode. They even
- 20:37blatantly mention that it's several
- 20:39months later twice as if they're trying
- 20:41to make you realize how inconsistent it
- 20:43is.
- 20:43Several months later.
- 20:45Well, here we are several months later.
- 20:46So, what does any of this mean? Why are
- 20:48the writers of Spongebob intentionally
- 20:50making the Flying Dutchman as
- 20:51inconsistent as possible? Well, the only
- 20:54way that this makes sense to me is if
- 20:56we're saying the Flying Dutchman
- 20:58non-chronologically. And by that, I mean
- 21:00the Flying Dutchman is timetraveling.
- 21:04Just Just bear with me for a second. For
- 21:06Spongebob, only several months have
- 21:08passed. But for the Dutchman, it
- 21:09actually was a thousand years later. The
- 21:12Dutchman didn't recognize Mr. Krabs in
- 21:14season 6 because for him, this is the
- 21:16first time they've met. And from his
- 21:17perspective, the episodes where he tries
- 21:19to take Mr. Krab's soul haven't happened
- 21:21yet. The Dutchman's not the marrying
- 21:23type in season 7, but he probably
- 21:25actually does end up getting married to
- 21:27the giant monster, and that's why we see
- 21:29him with a ring in season 4, because the
- 21:31past is the future for the Flying
- 21:33Dutchman. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 21:35Okay, okay, let's uh let's calm down for
- 21:37a second there, Alex. This time travel
- 21:39idea does fix a lot of problems with the
- 21:41Dutchman's continuity, but claiming a
- 21:43character has time travel powers is a
- 21:46major leap. I mean, don't get me wrong,
- 21:48the Flying Dutchman is a very powerful
- 21:50ghost. He can teleport. He can
- 21:52shapeshift. He can grant wishes, but
- 21:54we've never seen him manipulate time.
- 21:56You get three wishes.
- 21:58Wishes? I wish we had known that
- 22:01earlier.
- 22:03Okay, you got two wishes left.
- 22:05Huh. Okay, so the Dutchman's time
- 22:07traveling and you know what this means?
- 22:09The Flying Dutchman could absolutely be
- 22:12the ghost of Patchy the Pirate. And I'm
- 22:15going to prove it.
- 22:41Oh, hey, Alex. What's up?
- 22:43Hey, Wes. Uh, sorry for just barging in
- 22:45on you like this. Um, was actually
- 22:47wondering maybe if you'd want to watch
- 22:49my new Spongebob Theory. Maybe give me
- 22:51some feedback,
- 22:52dude. Yeah, absolutely. I love those
- 22:54videos. Come on in, man.
- 22:58How's the uh film thing going?
- 23:00Oh, you know, uh, funding's a nightmare.
- 23:04Trying to figure it out. Um, so just,
- 23:06uh, give it a watch. Tell me what you
- 23:08think. And, uh, is it cool if I use your
- 23:11bathroom?
- 23:11Yeah, no problem. It's, it's just right
- 23:12through there. So,
- 23:13cool. Uh, I guess enjoy.
- 23:16All right. So, this time,
- 23:19I'm just going to
- 23:23patch the pirate. This is the claim that
- 23:25makes absolute
- 23:27different
- 23:46Heat. Heat.
- 23:58[Music]
- 24:17So, if Patchy the Pirate eventually
- 24:19becomes the Flying Dutchman, that means
- 24:21at some point in the future, Patchy is
- 24:23going to die. Except here's the thing. I
- 24:26think Patchy is already dead in present
- 24:28day, and we have already seen his death
- 24:31on screen. Remember that Christmas
- 24:33special I told you would be important
- 24:34later on? It's the season 13 episode,
- 24:36Spongebob's Road to Christmas, and as of
- 24:38recording this, it's the latest episode
- 24:40in the Spongebob timeline. Spongebob
- 24:42does meet Patchy in this episode, but
- 24:44for some reason, he's fully animated
- 24:46instead of using the usual liveaction
- 24:48style.
- 24:49Ohoy, Spongebob and Patrick. It's me,
- 24:52Patchy the Pirate.
- 24:53It honestly feels kind of creepy for
- 24:56some reason, especially since the
- 24:57creators themselves said that Patchy
- 24:59could never meet Spongebob.
- 25:00Well, they can never meet, right? They
- 25:03can never meet.
- 25:03Is it possible that this isn't the real
- 25:06Patchy? Well, the last time we saw live
- 25:08action Patchy was in Spongebob's Big
- 25:10Birthday Blowout, and that episode ended
- 25:12with him being fired out of a cannon and
- 25:14crashing into an island.
- 25:20[Music]
- 25:22Immediately after that, Patchy's severed
- 25:24head shows up and meets Spongebob. But I
- 25:26already explained how this is clearly
- 25:28just another hallucination, and he's
- 25:29probably just going to wake up on the
- 25:31island disappointed that he didn't
- 25:32actually meet Spongebob like every other
- 25:34time. But what if this is something more
- 25:37than just a simple dream that he can
- 25:39wake up from? I mean, the last shot we
- 25:41saw of the real Patchy was him and Potty
- 25:44face down in the sand struggling to get
- 25:46out. What if they didn't? And this is
- 25:49what Patchy is hallucinating as he dies.
- 25:52During this hallucination, he begins
- 25:53singing the show's theme song with
- 25:55Spongebob to wrap up the episode.
- 25:57Oh, who's having a birthday under the
- 25:59sea? me.
- 26:02But as they're singing, we briefly cut
- 26:04to this horrifying shot of Pachy's body
- 26:07with Potty's head lying on the island,
- 26:08violently convulsing in pain.
- 26:15It happens so quick that I didn't even
- 26:17process it the first time. But godamn,
- 26:19that is some terrifying imagery for a
- 26:21kid show. Why the [ __ ] did they show
- 26:23this? Is this some kind of PG symbolic
- 26:26way to show Patchy and Potty suffocating
- 26:28to death in the sand? Holy [ __ ]
- 26:33Okay, so let's say Patchy and Potty, the
- 26:36hosts of the Spongebob Squarepants
- 26:38television show, are dead. What happens
- 26:41now? Well, the show must go on. The
- 26:44Spongebob Squarepants television show
- 26:46has to continue without him. But they
- 26:47need a new host to replace Patchy.
- 26:49Except, are they really going to tell
- 26:51their young audience that their beloved
- 26:53Patchy the Pirate and Potty the Parrot
- 26:55are dead? No, they're going to replace
- 26:58them with animated actors.
- 26:59And they're using actors.
- 27:03Hey, that's Showbiz for you. But what
- 27:05happened to the real Patchy after he
- 27:07died? Well, he became a ghost and could
- 27:09finally meet his idol, Spongebob. Except
- 27:11when he goes to Bikini Bottom, what
- 27:13would he see? Spongebob and all of his
- 27:16friends partying without him. Patchy
- 27:18dedicated his entire life to Spongebob.
- 27:21He even died for him. And Spongebob
- 27:23never even knew Patchy existed. And that
- 27:26resentment that's been building up
- 27:28inside of Patchy for all of these years
- 27:30finally explodes. And this is how Patchy
- 27:33the pirate becomes the Flying Dutchman.
- 27:36Patchy is done pretending to be a pirate
- 27:38and dressing up in his fake costumes. He
- 27:41gets a new look, a new identity, and now
- 27:43he can finally live out the fantasy of
- 27:45being a real pirate. Remember that board
- 27:47game that they said was based on a real
- 27:48map from The Flying Dutchman?
- 27:50Based on a real treasure map?
- 27:52We never really did see the map that it
- 27:53was based on. Or did we remember when
- 27:56Patchy was looking for the Lost
- 27:57Spongebob episode? He used this map to
- 28:00find it. Now, at first I thought these
- 28:02two maps didn't look all that similar,
- 28:04but the more I looked at it, the more my
- 28:06mind was blown. Same red X in the
- 28:08middle. You got the compass, the palm
- 28:10trees, a turtle, a fish, but most
- 28:12importantly, they both have the forked
- 28:15tree.
- 28:15Half a lead to the forked tree.
- 28:18Look for the deacon's goose through the
- 28:20fork in the old tree.
- 28:21That is a very specific detail. You
- 28:23would not just see that on any random
- 28:24map. The Flying Dutchman based his map
- 28:27off of the one from his past. So, he's
- 28:29become the Flying Dutchman now. And his
- 28:31main target for haunting is, of course,
- 28:33the one who ignored him his entire life,
- 28:36Spongebob Squarepants. But how did
- 28:38Patchy become such a powerful ghost who
- 28:40can even manipulate time itself? Well,
- 28:43there's actually an episode in season 12
- 28:45called The Ghost of Plankton that gives
- 28:46us a pretty clear understanding of how
- 28:48ghost powers work. It basically just
- 28:50takes time and effort to grow your
- 28:51powers. Patchy's already given Spongebob
- 28:5320 years of dedication. Might as well go
- 28:55a little further with it as the
- 28:56Dutchman. Patchy travels back in time to
- 28:58visit all of his favorite, most
- 29:00cherished Spongebob episodes, including
- 29:02his favorite episode, Shanghide. We're
- 29:04going to see me favorite show, Shangh.
- 29:11And he's going to make Spongebob pay for
- 29:13everything he's done. And he's going to
- 29:15make him pay over and over and over
- 29:18again. But then we get to the episode
- 29:22Ghost Host. Patchy initially moves in
- 29:24with Spongebob to torture him. But as
- 29:26much as he tries to deny it, deep down
- 29:28he's still that devoted fanboy who just
- 29:30wants Spongebob to be his friend. As
- 29:33much as he wants to pretend to be the
- 29:34Dutchman, deep down Patchy is still
- 29:37here. And that is why if you go to the
- 29:39Krusty Krab after closing and you go out
- 29:41the back to the dumpster, you can still
- 29:43read the words, "Patchy was here." Yes,
- 29:47he certainly was. And that, ladies and
- 29:49gentlemen, is the timetraveling ghost
- 29:52pirate theory. Thank you very much. Oh
- 29:55[ __ ] what about Potty? He died with
- 29:57Patchy 2, right? What What the hell
- 29:58happened to him? Uh uh I I can figure
- 30:01this out. Just give me a second. Let me
- 30:03just quickly rewatch every single
- 30:04episode of Spongebob.
- 30:07Got to watch the spin-offs, too. Okay,
- 30:09let me see.
- 30:10The [ __ ] ate him. I wonder what
- 30:12parrot tastes like.
- 30:13That is the time traveling ghost pirate
- 30:15theory, baby. I am done. Woo! See youa.
- 30:20Thank you again so much for watching.
- 30:22This was an especially tough one to
- 30:23figure out, but I think it all came
- 30:25together in the end. If you haven't
- 30:26already, make sure to like, comment, and
- 30:28subscribe and hit the bell icon for
- 30:30notifications. I have been your host,
- 30:31the Spongebob guy, and I will see you
- 30:33next time.
- 30:43Hey, Alex, I finished the theory. Pretty
- 30:46good stuff, man.
- 30:49You doing okay in there?
- 30:56[Music]
- 31:03Alex.
- 31:06Alex.
- 31:13Alex.
- 31:17Oh, hi Wesley.
- 31:20What are you doing down here?
- 31:31Sorry,
- 31:32I must have got lost.
- 31:35That That's okay. I I finished the
- 31:38video.
- 31:41What' you think?
- 31:43It was good.
- 31:46Hey, is is everything okay?
- 31:50Is everything okay?
- 31:52Why wouldn't everything be okay?
- 31:55I mean, come on, dude. You're You're
- 31:58acting weird.
- 32:00You know, you're right. I have been
- 32:02feeling weird lately,
- 32:06Wesley. I have a confession to make. I
- 32:09didn't come here to show you a video.
- 32:15Why are you here?
- 32:18To help you.
- 32:23[Music]
- 32:30Oh,
- 32:32you
- 32:33I'm I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 32:43Hey. Um, sorry about all of that. Uh, I
- 32:48think I'm coming down with something.
- 32:51Sorry, man. Uh, I'll clean it up.
- 32:55Uh, but you should probably go, though.
- 32:58Yeah. Yeah, I'll go. Um, sorry again.
- 33:08[Music]
- 33:17How are you feeling?
- 33:18Like my stomach just got pumped.
- 33:22You'll feel better soon.
- 33:28I don't know how to feel about what I
- 33:30did.
- 33:31I get it. But you did the right thing.
- 33:36And soon you won't have to worry about
- 33:37your muse at all.
- 34:12I like the uh your haircut, by the way.
- 34:15Thanks. Yeah, long hair just didn't
- 34:16really feel like me.
- 34:18Thanks again for, you know, talking me
- 34:21through all this. Um glad I don't have
- 34:23to deal with it on my own anymore. Yeah.
- 34:25I mean, I get how weird it all is.
- 34:30See, you
- 34:38must have given someone else a muse,
- 34:39too, right?
- 34:43Did you give me my muse?
- 34:51You needed help. It worked, didn't it?
- 35:00Good night, Victoria.
- 35:14Well done.
