- 0:08>> Spider-Man Brand New Day is directed by
- 0:10Destin Daniel Cretton, the man behind
- 0:12Short Term 12, The Glass Castle,
- 0:14Shang-Chi, and Just Mercy. This is the
- 0:16first film in Tom Holland's franchise
- 0:18that isn't directed by Jon Watts. Four
- 0:20years have passed since the events of No
- 0:22Way Home and Peter is now an adult
- 0:24living entirely alone having voluntarily
- 0:27erased himself from the lives and
- 0:28memories of those he loves. But, as the
- 0:31demands on him intensified, the pressure
- 0:33sparks a surprising physical evolution
- 0:35that threatens his existence even as a
- 0:37strange new pattern of crimes gives rise
- 0:40to one of the most powerful threats he
- 0:42has ever faced. I've liked all of Tom
- 0:44Holland's Spider-Man movies. Homecoming
- 0:46and Far From Home were completely
- 0:48enjoyable, but No Way Home was on a
- 0:49whole 'nother level. That movie really
- 0:52took the character of Spider-Man as
- 0:53played by Tom Holland into places I
- 0:55hadn't seen that iteration go before.
- 0:57But, it also felt very final in a lot of
- 0:59ways. Not just because of how good it
- 1:01was, not just because it seemed to wrap
- 1:03up storylines from previous Spider-Man
- 1:06as well as his own, but it also left him
- 1:08in a place where all of his
- 1:09relationships were destroyed and he was
- 1:11very much so on his own. So, for the
- 1:12vast majority of Brand New Day,
- 1:14Spider-Man is a solo adventurer. He's
- 1:17out there on his own. He's feeling very
- 1:20lonely and he's doing things mostly
- 1:22alone. Occasionally, he does receive
- 1:24help from people like Frank Castle, aka
- 1:26The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal.
- 1:28And there's other heroes in this movie
- 1:30that you may have seen on the poster or
- 1:32in some of the trailers like Mark
- 1:33Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. And there's
- 1:35moments where these characters are
- 1:37interacting with him and there's the
- 1:38acknowledgement of the larger world at
- 1:40play, but for the most part, Peter
- 1:41Parker is alone here in a big city where
- 1:45everyone admires him, but nobody knows
- 1:47who he is.
- 1:48Basically, he's Spider-Man. Spider-Man,
- 1:52not Spider-Boy, not Peter Stark. This is
- 1:55Peter Parker as Spider-Man as we know
- 1:57and love him. He just isn't working for
- 1:58J. Jonah Jameson and taking pictures
- 2:00necessarily, but besides that, this
- 2:02feels so much like Spider-Man to me.
- 2:05Like the first act feels like a series
- 2:06of Spider-Man comics where he's just
- 2:08going up against various villains. It
- 2:09didn't feel messy to me. It didn't feel
- 2:11like they were trying to go for a
- 2:12nostalgia bait. It felt very much so
- 2:14like it belonged in the narrative, but I
- 2:16love the idea of picking up with Peter
- 2:18Parker now, all these years later, to
- 2:21see what his life is like as Spider-Man
- 2:23and feeling like I was in a series of
- 2:25really fun Spider-Man comics. And the
- 2:27thing that I was most worried about was
- 2:28that they were going to take something
- 2:30that had a really nice, complete ending,
- 2:33bittersweet, but complete, and ruin it,
- 2:36and just act like it didn't exist or it
- 2:38never happened. And I'll avoid all plot
- 2:40specifics cuz I am going to do a spoiler
- 2:42review in a few days, but this movie
- 2:44really appreciates the ending of the
- 2:46last film. It doesn't try to just
- 2:48dismantle it or or or pretend like it
- 2:50didn't happen. And the value really is
- 2:53in Peter's evolution as a person,
- 2:55allowing him to mature, and putting him
- 2:57up against things, not just physically,
- 2:59but emotionally, that he's never dealt
- 3:01with before. This is the best looking of
- 3:03Tom Holland's Spider-Man films. The
- 3:05cinematography is very, very good, and
- 3:07there has been a lot of discussion
- 3:08lately about the MCU films and how they
- 3:11all kind of have a similar color
- 3:13palette, and they all feel a certain
- 3:15way. There's been a lot of discussion in
- 3:17general about movies, period, today just
- 3:20not looking as good as they used to. The
- 3:22shadows in this movie are great. in the
- 3:25film is vibrant and beautiful, and the
- 3:27swinging scenes are wonderful. They're
- 3:30probably some of the best I've seen
- 3:32since Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is not
- 3:34the best Spider-Man movie, but does have
- 3:36some of the best swinging scenes. I
- 3:38really want to talk about his suit. He
- 3:40is described, I mean Tom Holland, as
- 3:42sort of the best of the things that he
- 3:44saw from Toby and the things he saw from
- 3:46Andrew, because he just met these guys.
- 3:48And it really is. It looks like it has
- 3:50that red reflective sheen of Toby
- 3:53Maguire's suit and it looks like the
- 3:55blue has that sort of shiny feel that
- 3:57Andrew's suit had and he's got his
- 4:00expressive eye pieces and it really is
- 4:02the best of all three of them but you
- 4:04can tell that it's a fabric suit. You
- 4:05can see it moving when he's swinging.
- 4:07You can even see behind his eye pieces
- 4:09sometimes. It is easily up there in the
- 4:12top two Spider-Man suits. I feel like
- 4:15Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit is perfect. Of
- 4:18course Toby's suit is goated forever.
- 4:20The black Spidey suit is one of the best
- 4:22I've ever seen and this is easily the
- 4:24best thing that Tom Holland has ever
- 4:26been dressed in for a Spider-Man movie.
- 4:27I love his look in this movie and he's
- 4:29in the suit like all the time. He's
- 4:32constantly talking to authority figures
- 4:35while fully suited and I was very
- 4:37pleased with how good he looks in this
- 4:38movie. Creton has proved himself as a
- 4:40very very good director of fight
- 4:42sequences. The stuff in Shang-Chi which
- 4:44was lens by Bill Pope of course
- 4:47brilliant cinematographer in his own
- 4:48right who also lens the Spider-Man
- 4:51movie, probably the best Spider-Man
- 4:52movie, Spider-Man 2. This director is
- 4:54good at fight scenes is what I'm saying
- 4:56and they are very very good here. They
- 4:58are excellent. There's a fantastic one
- 5:00with the hand where he does some stuff
- 5:03that is straight out of that PS4 game
- 5:05and what I loved about the evolution of
- 5:07what he's going through in this movie
- 5:09which again I will avoid too many plot
- 5:11specifics but the trailers do show that
- 5:13he's spinning organic webs and he's
- 5:15waking up covered in webbing and he
- 5:17doesn't know what's going on and it's
- 5:18affecting him.
- 5:20There's a scene where it's affecting him
- 5:22and he's supposed to be doing things
- 5:24slightly out of control and he straight
- 5:26up does a move from one of the PS4 games
- 5:28and I'm like, yeah, I always kind of
- 5:30thought that Spider-Man was
- 5:31unnecessarily violent but being such a
- 5:33fan of the PS4 and the PS5 game like I
- 5:36love those games and this movie does
- 5:38feel like it exists in that space, has
- 5:41some of the stuff I love from Garfield's
- 5:43movies and some of the stuff I love from
- 5:44Maguire's movies in regards to tone. It
- 5:47really understands what works best about
- 5:49other Spider iterations we've had
- 5:51already.
- 5:52Throwing all of that out of the window,
- 5:53like avoiding like oh, it's this and
- 5:56this and this and comparisons.
- 5:58This is a very strong dramatic piece of
- 6:00work. Holland is fantastic in his scenes
- 6:03with Zendaya and she's great, too.
- 6:06The fact that there is this history that
- 6:08we know about and he knows about, but
- 6:10she doesn't know about creates all of
- 6:11this tension in these scenes that is
- 6:13handled really, really well. I loved his
- 6:16back and forth with Punisher. Bernthal
- 6:18is fantastic. And we'll talk about the
- 6:21villain later, but not now.
- 6:24Really enjoyed it.
- 6:26Uh yeah, I'm not going to say anything
- 6:28else.
- 6:29You guys know that Bruce Banner's in
- 6:30this movie. He's on one of the posters.
- 6:33Leads to
- 6:34really, really good, satisfying scene.
- 6:36Very fandom scene. Liked it lot as fan.
- 6:40Fan liked scene good. Can't talk about
- 6:43it. We'll mention it later. Good things
- 6:46happened. I enjoyed it. I was skeptical
- 6:48going in because the last one ended well
- 6:49and it felt complete, but this is a
- 6:51really good continuation of what Tom
- 6:53Holland has brought to this character
- 6:55and the story really respects that. And
- 6:57you can tell that they did not just make
- 6:59another Spider-Man movie. This is one of
- 7:00my favorite MCU films in recent years.
- 7:03The MCU has been on a bit of a downslide
- 7:05lately, so that's not saying a lot, but
- 7:08this is one of their better movies. I
- 7:10really appreciated this film, had a
- 7:12great time with it. I can't wait to see
- 7:13it again and I will talk about a lot of
- 7:15other things in a spoiler review in a
- 7:17few days. But if you're a Spider-Man
- 7:19fan, I think you can rest assured this
- 7:20is a good time at the movies. Guys,
- 7:22thank you so much as always for
- 7:23watching. Look forward to more videos
