  3. 0:08[music] at the beach with me completely
  4. 0:13in English. I'm going to take you with
  5. 0:16me while [music]
  6. 0:18I pack my things.
  7. 0:23While I walk around. [music] while I go
  8. 0:28to the beach and hopefully while we
  9. 0:32watch the sun
  10. 0:35set and the entire [music] time we're
  11. 0:40going to be speaking
  12. 0:42English
  13. 0:44my [music] beach bag because of
  14. 0:47something else looks really calm. We
  15. 0:50should have I'm going to get in the
  16. 0:54water. Don't worry about understanding
  17. 0:57[music]
  18. 0:58every single word and try to understand
  19. 1:02me through context. Okay, let's get
  20. 1:07ready. [music] We are in Laas by the
  21. 1:10way. It's in Baja California in the
  22. 1:14north of Mexico. Okay, first let me show
  23. 1:20you what I have in my bag.
  24. 1:26My beach bag.
  25. 1:28It's not really a beach bag. It's more
  26. 1:32of just a normal backpack,
  27. 1:37but it's my beach bag for today. So,
  28. 1:40let's see what I have inside. But first,
  29. 1:44what do you pack for the beach?
  30. 1:49What do you put inside your beach bag?
  31. 1:54So, let's see what I have. So, first of
  32. 1:56all, I have my camera, the one I'm
  33. 1:59recording with right now, cuz I was
  34. 2:02recording for today.
  35. 2:04Then I have
  36. 2:07some sunglasses.
  37. 2:11These are new sunglasses.
  38. 2:14My new favorite sunglasses
  39. 2:17because they're pink.
  40. 2:21And you guys know I've been loving the
  41. 2:23color pink lately. Do you like these?
  42. 2:27Tell me in the comments.
  43. 2:30Then we have my microphone.
  44. 2:35This is the microphone
  45. 2:38I used.
  46. 2:39to record my videos. It's really good. I
  47. 2:44have
  48. 2:46a towel,
  49. 2:49a beach towel. Next, we have
  50. 2:53my shirt. Let me show you guys
  51. 2:57a shirt I brought um just kind of to
  52. 3:00wear after I swim because it's a little
  53. 3:05bit uncomfortable to wear a shirt like
  54. 3:08this um after swimming cuz it's so
  55. 3:12tight. A loose loose shirts are really
  56. 3:16nice for after swimming especially when
  57. 3:18you're all sticky from the salt water in
  58. 3:22the ocean. Then what else? Oh, then we
  59. 3:26have in the front pockets. So, these are
  60. 3:30the front pockets. My wallet
  61. 3:34and my headphones.
  62. 3:37I have a hat
  63. 3:41to protect my skin from
  64. 3:46the sun rays.
  65. 3:48And I have sunscreen on my face. So, I
  66. 3:52didn't bring my sunscreen with me. Even
  67. 3:56though I probably should have. Next time
  68. 4:01I will bring my sunscreen.
  69. 4:04I'll learn from my mistake. So, remember
  70. 4:09should have we use when we didn't do
  71. 4:14something but we think that we should
  72. 4:18have. We think that next time we will we
  73. 4:25should have. We use it when we didn't do
  74. 4:28something. We didn't do it. Now would
  75. 4:31have is a little different. If I say I
  76. 4:35would have brought my sunscreen, but I
  77. 4:40didn't because I already put it on.
  78. 4:43Would have means I intentionally didn't
  79. 4:47because of something else.
  80. 4:50I would have brought my sunscreen, but I
  81. 4:53didn't because I didn't need it. It
  82. 4:57wasn't necessary. I would have if I
  83. 5:00needed to, but I didn't. If I hadn't put
  84. 5:04on sunscreen
  85. 5:06and I forgot to pack sunscreen,
  86. 5:11then I would have gotten sunburnt.
  87. 5:16If your skin turns red
  88. 5:21after being in the sun for a long time,
  89. 5:25then that's called
  90. 5:28sunburn.
  91. 5:30That's getting sunburnt.
  92. 5:34Have you ever gotten sunburnt?
  93. 5:38Maybe on your shoulders, your chest,
  94. 5:41maybe your forehead got sunburnt.
  95. 5:45Tell me in the comments. I have my
  96. 5:48swimsuit on underneath
  97. 5:52so that I can just take off my shirt and
  98. 5:56get in the ocean. I also am wearing
  99. 6:00flip-flops.
  100. 6:03So, these are called sandals or flip
  101. 6:07flops.
  102. 6:09And normally you wear these at the
  103. 6:11beach. Flip flops. Okay. I'll put on my
  104. 6:15sunglasses,
  105. 6:18put on my hat,
  106. 6:20and let's go head to the beach.
  107. 6:28Now, we're walking to
  108. 6:32the beach.
  109. 6:34So, let me show you guys the view. So,
  110. 6:38just then I was at the kiosk.
  111. 6:41So, that's the kiosk over there.
  112. 6:44And
  113. 6:46here is the pier. Now we're walking to
  114. 6:51the beach. So I want to sit on the sand.
  115. 6:57And while we're on the sand, I'll tell
  116. 7:00you guys a little more. Wait about this
  117. 7:04beach that I'm on. Now look at that. We
  118. 7:08made it. There aren't very many people
  119. 7:12here today. The beach is very empty. The
  120. 7:16water looks really calm. Like the waves,
  121. 7:21they're super calm. The sky is a little
  122. 7:24bit cloudy.
  123. 7:26It's not super clear at the moment, but
  124. 7:30it's still keeps it fresh. It's not too
  125. 7:35insanely hot. Now, it's not just warm. I
  126. 7:40would say it's hot. So to be hot is
  127. 7:45almost to be scorching.
  128. 7:47So if I say it's scorching hot, that
  129. 7:51means it's really hot, not just warm.
  130. 7:55And right now it's not scorching hot
  131. 7:59because the sun isn't super intense,
  132. 8:04but it is hot. Don't get me wrong, it's
  133. 8:08very hot. So actually before I describe
  134. 8:12everything to you, before I tell you
  135. 8:15what this is, what that is, I want you
  136. 8:19to tell me what you see. So what can you
  137. 8:24see? You don't need to know tons of
  138. 8:29English vocabulary to tell me or any
  139. 8:32complicated words.
  140. 8:35You could say the water is blue, the
  141. 8:39beach is quiet, or that the sun is
  142. 8:43shining.
  143. 8:45Maybe that there are people swimming.
  144. 8:49Simple English is still English. Okay,
  145. 8:54here's how I would describe it.
  146. 8:57The water is calm.
  147. 9:01The waves are small.
  148. 9:05The sky is cloudy
  149. 9:09and the sand
  150. 9:12feels
  151. 9:14rough.
  152. 9:16There's a nice breeze
  153. 9:19coming from the ocean.
  154. 9:22Now, something I really want you to
  155. 9:24practice in English is describing your
  156. 9:28surroundings.
  157. 9:29You can do this anywhere. When you're
  158. 9:32walking, the street is busy. When you're
  159. 9:37having a coffee,
  160. 9:39this brew is hot. When you're at home, I
  161. 9:45need to clean my kitchen. And you don't
  162. 9:48need an English-speaking person next to
  163. 9:50you to start using it. Okay. Now, I
  164. 9:55think I'm going to get in the water.
  165. 9:59Notice how I didn't say I'm going to
  166. 10:03enter the ocean. I just said I'm going
  167. 10:07to get in now. Okay. We've been
  168. 10:10practicing a lot of English. But now I
  169. 10:14just want to talk to you because this is
  170. 10:18something I want you to start doing more
  171. 10:23when you're practicing English. Stop
  172. 10:25treating English like a school subject
  173. 10:29that you study for and memorize. English
  174. 10:33isn't just grammar.
  175. 10:36It isn't a test. It isn't something you
  176. 10:40need to finish learning before starting
  177. 10:44to use it. It's a language. It's
  178. 10:48something you can experience life
  179. 10:51through. I think about what we did
  180. 10:55today.
  181. 10:56We walked. We went swimming.
  182. 11:00We looked at the ocean.
  183. 11:03We talked. And you experienced all of
  184. 11:08that in English. And maybe there were
  185. 11:12words that you didn't understand
  186. 11:15completely, but that's okay. You don't
  187. 11:19need to understand every word to have a
  188. 11:23conversation,
  189. 11:25a meaningful conversation. I think
  190. 11:28sometimes English learners wait for the
  191. 11:31moment when they're ready to speak. When
  192. 11:36my grammar gets better, then I'll be
  193. 11:40ready. When I know more vocabulary,
  194. 11:44when my pronunciation improves, then
  195. 11:48I'll speak. But speaking is part of how
  196. 11:53those things improve, not when. You
  197. 11:56don't become confident and then start
  198. 11:59speaking. You become confident because
  199. 12:03you started speaking. And that's exactly
  200. 12:06what we do in my English community, the
  201. 12:11slow English community.
  202. 12:14And we're opening in
  203. 12:16October, at the beginning of October.
  204. 12:19So, be sure to join the wait list to
  205. 12:21start speaking English with other
  206. 12:23English learners from around the world.
  207. 12:26No judgment, no pressure to speak. Now
  208. 12:29imagine
  209. 12:31what you would do if you weren't afraid
  210. 12:35of making mistakes. Would you travel?
  211. 12:38Would you make new friends?
  212. 12:41Would you apply for a new job? Think
  213. 12:44about your answer. Now you have to talk.
  214. 12:48I'm going to ask you five questions and
  215. 12:51you have to answer out loud, not in your
  216. 12:55head. Okay? Ready? What is the weather
  217. 13:00like where you are right now?
  218. 13:04Pause. [clears throat] Number two. Do
  219. 13:08you prefer the beach or the mountains?
  220. 13:14Pause. Number three.
  221. 13:16What's something you always bring to the
  222. 13:20beach?
  223. 13:22Pause. Number four.
  224. 13:25When was the last time you went
  225. 13:29swimming?
  226. 13:31Pause. And number five.
  227. 13:34If you could travel to anywhere in the
  228. 13:37world right now,
  229. 13:40where would you go?
  230. 13:43Pause. Oh, and why? Tell me. Pause. And
  231. 13:47if answering those questions felt
  232. 13:50difficult, that means that you actually
  233. 13:54practiced.
  234. 13:55Congratulations. I'm proud of you. I'm
  235. 13:58proud that you're not giving up on your
  236. 14:01dreams. Whether that's English or
  237. 14:03whether that's learning English for
  238. 14:06something else, you're still pursuing
  239. 14:08your dreams. You're not letting them be
  240. 14:10forgotten. Now, before we leave, let's
  241. 14:14do one last thing.
  242. 14:16I'm going to say a sentence and you'll
  243. 14:21listen then repeat. Ready? I spent the
  244. 14:27day at the beach.
  245. 14:33The water was crystal clear.
  246. 14:43I walked barefoot
  247. 14:46along the shore.
  248. 14:54The sand was scorching
  249. 14:57hot.
  250. 15:03I watched the sun set over the ocean.
  251. 15:13I don't need perfect English to start
  252. 15:18speaking
  253. 15:25a little faster.
  254. 15:27I don't need perfect English to start
  255. 15:29speaking.
  256. 15:32[snorts]
  257. 15:32You don't. How much of this video did
  258. 15:36you understand? And also tell me where
  259. 15:40should we spend our next day together?
  260. 15:44Maybe at the coffee shop, maybe at a
  261. 15:48restaurant. I think we should make this
  262. 15:50a series. What do you think? If you
  263. 15:53enjoyed this video, I'm sure you'll
  264. 15:56enjoy the next one I have for you here.
  265. 15:59I'll see you guys next time.
  266. 16:02Remember, never stop learning.
  267. 16:06Bye.
