- 0:00Welcome back to new video guys. Today
- 0:02we're going to be trying food at a
- 0:03Chinese convenience store in Beijing.
- 0:07We're going to try to find some of the
- 0:08weirdest snacks, chips, drinks, and any
- 0:12other weird item we can find. The first
- 0:14thing we see when we come in here are
- 0:15very minimalistic. You see birch sap.
- 0:19Wait. But it is vacuum [music] sealed,
- 0:21so it obviously is fine to eat in terms
- 0:23of variety.
- 0:24>> Same app that I used to rent this, I can
- 0:27use to rent the bike. I find sap better
- 0:28whenever I try it. Okay.
- 0:29>> You guys be the judge. Look at the
- 0:31packaging.
- 0:32>> Obviously the tuna mayo is the go-to.
- 0:34>> These chips, nothing special. These
- 0:36chips, I probably wouldn't. So let's go
- 0:38in and find some stuff. Okay, so the
- 0:40first thing we see when we come in here
- 0:42is the hot food section here. And I
- 0:45don't think I've seen a hot food section
- 0:47this big. What about you?
- 0:48>> It's fully loaded. I'm going to be
- 0:50honest.
- 0:50>> They got like three different [music]
- 0:51types of chicken thighs, and then
- 0:54chicken cutlets, fish cutlets.
- 0:56>> What's this up here? It's like a taco.
- 0:58>> This one?
- 0:58>> Yeah.
- 0:59>> Dude, what is this one? Dude, you see
- 1:01that? Like
- 1:01>> Yeah, I don't even know if I could
- 1:02translate it cuz it's handwritten.
- 1:04>> Dude, what? They have a lot of stuff. I
- 1:05kind of want to try that. Let me
- 1:06translate that. See what it says. Okay,
- 1:09shrimp balls and chicken balls with
- 1:11eggplant.
- 1:13That does not sound good at all.
- 1:14>> Dude, let's go further into this store.
- 1:16This will be the last stuff we buy. They
- 1:18also have slushies.
- 1:20And here they have more hot food. This
- 1:22is like more like Japanese food.
- 1:25>> Yeah.
- 1:25>> I guess 7-Eleven is Japanese. Anyway,
- 1:27let's keep going. What gummies here look
- 1:30>> just Chinese. I've never seen these.
- 1:32Like the peeling ones. These honestly
- 1:33kind of look good.
- 1:35>> Which gummies should we get? [music]
- 1:37I've already had these uh sour ones.
- 1:39They're not that good.
- 1:40>> These look kind of crazy.
- 1:42>> Dude, these look good. Like you have to
- 1:44peel [music] these gummies, and I guess
- 1:45it's mango flavor or the shape of a
- 1:47mango.
- 1:47>> you should get these ones to get your
- 1:49reaction.
- 1:50>> Sour? Dude, I love sour. And it's from
- 1:52the same one. Actually, you know what? I
- 1:54will get the sour ones cuz I've tried
- 1:56these sour ones from the same brand, not
- 1:59sour at all. So, you know what? I'll try
- 2:01these. I'm pretty sure these are all
- 2:02Japanese. Oh.
- 2:05Oh no, this is Korean. Maybe this is
- 2:07Chinese. Ooh, these grape ones look
- 2:09[music] really good. Okay, I think we'll
- 2:10get these grape ones and these sour
- 2:13ones.
- 2:143,000. That is the amount of words you
- 2:17need to understand up to 95%
- 2:21of spoken English. But if you want to
- 2:24keep improving after that, I've now

- 3:18in the description or at
- 3:19vocaenglish.com.
- 3:21Here we are inside a convenience store
- 3:24standing in front of a shelf filled with
- 3:27brightly colored products.
- 3:30The display is packed from top to bottom
- 3:33and every row catches the eye. There are
- 3:35pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, and
- 3:39red packages all arranged closely
- 3:43together. The store feels bright, busy,
- 3:47and full of choices.
- 3:49Convenience stores are designed to
- 3:51attract attention quickly, So, many of
- 3:53the products come in bold, colorful
- 3:56packaging.
- 3:57We can see candy, gummy sweets,
- 4:00chocolate, chewing gum, chips, crackers,
- 4:04cookies, and small snack packs. Some
- 4:07packages look playful and fun, while
- 4:10others look cute or unusual. The colors
- 4:13help customers notice products
- 4:15immediately, especially when they are
- 4:18choosing something quickly. In stores
- 4:21like this, we can also find bottled
- 4:23drinks, juice, tea, water, yogurt
- 4:27drinks, and sometimes small desserts.
- 4:30Near the snacks, there are often mints,
- 4:33jelly cups, and flavored sweets with
- 4:35fruity pictures on the front. Even if we
- 4:38do not recognize a brand, the display
- 4:41still feels interesting because
- 4:43everything looks so vivid and different.
- 4:46A convenience store is a simple place,
- 4:49but it can also be surprisingly
- 4:51exciting. When the shelves are full of
- 4:53colorful snacks and drinks, even a quick
- 4:56stop can feel like a small adventure.
- 5:00>> One thing I like is that these ice
- 5:01creams are very minimalistic. You see
- 5:03banana flavor, chocolate, matcha, milk.
- 5:07Oh my gosh, mangosteen ice cream.
- 5:10That's crazy. I would try that.
- 5:12>> Dude, I would try it, too. I'll take it
- 5:14before we leave. Okay, I'm I'm not going
- 5:16to lie, this is the best tuna mayo
- 5:20onigiri I've ever had, and I'm going to
- 5:22get this one so I can show you guys.
- 5:25What else do they got here? They have
- 5:27cake. Ooh, these egg tarts are super
- 5:29good. Here they have a bunch of
- 5:30different packaged goods that I don't
- 5:32even think you need to cook or anything.
- 5:34You can just open up the package and eat
- 5:36it. I've never had a chicken thigh
- 5:38before from a package or anything like
- 5:40this. Let me know in the comments if you
- 5:42guys have. I personally have never. I
- 5:44feel like think get a soy milk. Which
- 5:46one do you think is good?
- 5:48>> I think you should get these chicken
- 5:50hearts. Is it like like chicken
- 5:51gizzards?
- 5:52>> Uh, I'm good on that one. This is soy
- 5:55milk, right?
- 5:56>> Yeah.
- 5:56>> I wonder which one is good. This one
- 5:58they got the guy riz you, so I might get
- 6:00this one. They got the riz the riz layer
- 6:02on this. So, let me get this one. I have
- 6:04been marketed to. Jasmine coconut water,
- 6:08that looks amazing. This Pepsi bottle
- 6:10looks very weird. The Pepsi zero sugar.
- 6:13This Coke bottle looks weird, too. Oh,
- 6:15yeah. They have a small bottle of Coke,
- 6:17but I wonder what other flavor they have
- 6:19here we should try. Dude, look at the
- 6:21size of this beer. These beers are huge,
- 6:24man.
- 6:25>> Oh, no.
- 6:25>> Like that's for like a family.
- 6:27>> You have to try this. Birch sap.
- 6:29>> Birch sap?
- 6:31Wait.
- 6:32>> You have to get that.
- 6:33>> What?
- 6:34Birch sap? Jasmine birch sap? Wouldn't
- 6:37that be very bitter?
- 6:38>> It's No, it's going to be like maple
- 6:40syrup water. That's basically going to
- 6:41be it.
- 6:42>> I'm going to get it cuz I've had sap
- 6:44before from trees, and it's just very
- 6:45bitter. But, I'll get that one and we'll
- 6:47see we'll see how it tastes. Okay, let's
- 6:49get some chips. Dude, they sell I don't
- 6:51even know what this is.
- 6:52>> Lunch and meat. That's uh
- 6:54>> Spam?
- 6:55>> Yeah, that's literally spam.
- 6:56>> What What is this? Macro? They also have
- 6:58some oyster sauce and chili sauce. Ooh,
- 7:01this is so convenient. This is so
- 7:03convenient. Oh, not the peanut butter.
- 7:05>> This is what I was telling you about Lao
- 7:06Gan Ma. It's like one of the most famous
- 7:09toppings. It's chili crisp.
- 7:10>> most famous. No one comes close to that
- 7:12one. Okay, I think let's grab a couple
- 7:14bottles of wine, some vodka, some other
- 7:18Chinese alcohol, and let's get lit in
- 7:20the park.
- 7:22>> I'm good. What about peaches?
- 7:24>> What the fudge? What is this? Are these
- 7:28just grapes?
- 7:29>> It's peach something. Like a peach
- 7:30candy, probably.
- 7:31>> Dude, this is like sleep paralysis demon
- 7:34food. Look at that. Hell, no. Dude, the
- 7:37fact that they sell eggs like this, I
- 7:40don't know. To me, it's very odd, but it
- 7:42is vacuum sealed, so it obviously is
- 7:44fine to eat. We'll leave that there.
- 7:46Bro, out of all the stuff you're going
- 7:47to get a wrap?
- 7:48>> Yeah, but look at this. Look at this
- 7:49interior.
- 7:50>> You sure you don't want to try this?
- 7:52>> I already ate that.
- 7:53>> This? This?
- 7:54>> I wouldn't eat that.
- 7:55>> This? Uh you don't want to try chicken
- 7:56feet? You don't want to have these
- 7:58chicken gizzards or heart or whatever
- 8:00that is?
- 8:01>> but you got to warm them up first before
- 8:02I do.
- 8:03>> You can warm it up here before we go to
- 8:05the park.
- 8:05>> breads?
- 8:06>> Bro, you don't want to try tiny
- 8:08crawfish?
- 8:09>> You don't want to try this.
- 8:10>> Nah, it looks it looks too mushy for me,
- 8:12you know? It doesn't look good. Okay, so
- 8:14right now I'm walking through the
- 8:17doorway.
- 8:18And now I'm going to close the door.
- 8:23If one of your biggest problems with
- 8:24English is that you understand a lot,
- 8:27but when it comes time to speak, you
- 8:29start translating everything in your
- 8:31head, then let me show you what I've
- 8:33been doing about this. So, this is an
- 8:36image. No question, no prompt, nobody
- 8:40telling me what to talk about. I just
- 8:42look at it and start describing what I
- 8:44see out loud.
- 8:46>> Describe this in English.
- 8:48>> It looks like a girl just graduated from
- 8:52university. Her parents are both hugging
- 8:55her, and she has her parchment paper in
- 8:57her left hand.
- 8:59>> Exactly. They all look so happy. Have
- 9:01you ever been to a graduation ceremony?
- 9:04>> This is Big Brain, and my favorite
- 9:06feature is their visual AI tutor. The AI
- 9:10can actually see the image, so it
- 9:12responds to what I said, corrects my
- 9:13grammar and pronunciation, asks me
- 9:16questions about the picture, and keeps
- 9:18the conversation going. I really like
- 9:20the idea behind this because you're
- 9:22connecting what you see directly to
- 9:24English instead of seeing a word,
- 9:26translating it into your first language,
- 9:28and then trying to remember the English
- 9:29again. And if you want to learn new
- 9:31vocabulary, there's also this visual
- 9:33feed. You scroll through different
- 9:35words, but every word has its own image
- 9:38or video and an example sentence. So,
- 9:40you're learning the word in context
- 9:42instead of just memorizing a definition.
- 9:44You can also tap a word, say it out
- 9:46loud, and Big Bean will analyze your
- 9:48pronunciation and give you a score out
- 9:51of 100. So, you can actually practice
- 9:53saying the vocabulary you're learning
- 9:55instead of only recognizing it. If you
- 9:57want to try Big Bean for yourself, use
- 9:59my link in the description or pinned
- 10:01comment to check it out. Thank you, Big
- 10:02Bean, for sponsoring today's video.
- 10:04Here, you see the chips and also the
- 10:06chocolate bars. The thing is there's not
- 10:08many chocolate bars. I always see this
- 10:11brand everywhere, Dove, Dove. I've never
- 10:13tried it. We'll see if it's good. I like
- 10:15white chocolate, so we'll get a Dove
- 10:17chocolate. Is this one filled with
- 10:19caramel?
- 10:20>> No, I think that's just milk chocolate.
- 10:22Yeah, this is just plain. This one's
- 10:23filled with
- 10:24>> Okay, I just got this one to see how
- 10:26[music] it is. What else?
- 10:28>> This looks kind of interesting.
- 10:29>> This one? I've never seen this, so let's
- 10:31just get one of those. Kinder chocolate,
- 10:33those are the best. Okay, what else?
- 10:35What kind of chips [music] should we
- 10:36get?
- 10:36>> Oh, this is where it gets interesting.
- 10:38>> Yeah, we low-key have to try cucumber
- 10:39flavor. I literally see it all the time
- 10:42everywhere.
- 10:43>> bag.
- 10:43>> Yeah, cuz it probably just tastes like
- 10:45[music] water.
- 10:47Ooh, these look good.
- 10:49I love curry.
- 10:50>> I've never seen those. You should get
- 10:51one of those.
- 10:52>> I've never seen those either, but let's
- 10:54see if there's a more like authentic
- 10:55flavor.
- 10:56>> What about this? It's like a noodle, but
- 10:58like they have it in chip form. Are
- 11:00these like bricks here? Or get this one
- 11:02that's just like a big chili.
- 11:03>> That one looks too spicy, but this I
- 11:05like the packaging and it looks
- 11:07flavorful. So, let's get it. Add that to
- 11:09the basket. What else are we missing?
- 11:10[music]
- 11:11>> Bread.
- 11:11>> No, we should get a hot food, some hot
- 11:13foods there.
- 11:14>> true. But we should get like a legit bev
- 11:16cuz birch sap and soy milk
- 11:19>> Like what What do you mean?
- 11:20>> Something carbonated, maybe a tea cuz
- 11:22you can't be in China and not have tea,
- 11:25right?
- 11:26>> I got water.
- 11:27>> Oh.
- 11:27>> Right here.
- 11:28>> What about the meat sticks?
- 11:29>> So, So is just a bunch of packaged dry
- 11:31[music] meats. I don't know, I think I'm
- 11:33good on bev. Those two bevs kind of good
- 11:35for me.
- 11:36>> You're going to drink that?
- 11:37>> Well, that's the point of it is to try
- 11:39it. Ooh.
- 11:40>> Is that just like a bunch of eggs?
- 11:42>> Yeah, soy sauce eggs.
- 11:43>> I know these are super popular, all
- 11:45these like uh chewy foods.
- 11:47>> Dude, these are just like literal
- 11:48skewers.
- 11:49>> Oh, this is that famous snack that you
- 11:51always see in those [music] videos, like
- 11:53the gluten fried sticks with spicy
- 11:55sticks.
- 11:57>> Should we get some?
- 11:58>> Yeah, they're just spicy gluten.
- 12:01>> Okay, let's get some hot food. And here
- 12:03they have even like a buffet. This is
- 12:05one of the nicest 7-Elevens I've been to
- 12:08in terms of variety. What should we get
- 12:10here now? Okay, so
- 12:12I got this chicken cutlet to compare to
- 12:15Japan's.
- 12:16>> I got this
- 12:16>> did you get?
- 12:17>> On the very end.
- 12:18>> saucy one. But they have so much to
- 12:20choose from, dude. You could have lunch
- 12:21here [music] every day for like a week
- 12:23and still not try everything. These are
- 12:24all the choices if you guys want to
- 12:26screenshot.
- 12:30I think we're going to skip the coffee
- 12:31and all this stuff and this slushy.
- 12:35>> Oh.
- 12:36>> Bro.
- 12:38Forgot one.
- 12:38>> Yeah, small chocolate.
- 12:41I don't even need to bring my wallet
- 12:42anywhere. I just bring my phone and when
- 12:44my phone is dying, I could rent a power
- 12:46bank for like 10 cents. Like not even 10
- 12:48cents. It's like 5 cents
- 12:51a minute or something. I don't know,
- 12:52until it's charged and it charges really
- 12:54fast. Like just in that time we went in
- 12:56there, it's charged from less than 50%
- 12:58to almost 80%. Anyway, we got all the
- 13:00goods here. Now let's go to the park and
- 13:02try everything. But let's rent some
- 13:04bikes. So now I'm going to take my bag
- 13:06of food and put it in the basket here
- 13:09and then I'm going to open up the same
- 13:11app, Alipay, scan and rent this bike. So
- 13:14the same app that I used to rent this, I
- 13:16can use to rent the bike and I can pay
- 13:18for everything everywhere. And now it's
- 13:19unlocked. So we're going to get on the
- 13:21bike, cycle to
- 13:23park, right?
- 13:24>> Yep.
- 13:25>> We're going to cycle to a park and then
- 13:26try all the snacks. Hopefully not sweat
- 13:28to death. We forgot the ice cream. We'll
- 13:30do that in another video or I'll make a
- 13:33short form video out of it, but let's
- 13:34head over there and let's go try the
- 13:36food before it gets cold. Although it's
- 13:38hot as heck today, so I don't think it's
- 13:40going to be getting cold. Let's bounce
- 13:41though. Got to put on the glasses so I'm
- 13:43legal. I'm blind.
- 13:51Okay, you guys. So we found a spot here
- 13:53in a park. So now my brother and I are
- 13:56sitting in a park here. These are
- 13:57snacks. The chips, these things, spicy
- 14:00sticks, spicy sticks, cucumber chips,
- 14:03>> Damn.
- 14:04>> gummies,
- 14:05onigiri.
- 14:07We got two onigiri, one pork knuckle and
- 14:09one tuna mayo.
- 14:10This is the best tuna mayo onigiri I've
- 14:13ever had.
- 14:14We also got super sour food. We got two
- 14:17chocolates. One is a white chocolate
- 14:19bar, the other one is this small cube.
- 14:21We have jasmine birch sap.
- 14:24>> [clears throat]
- 14:24>> Jasmine birch sap.
- 14:26>> We went craziest on the bevs.
- 14:27>> And then we have two hot foods.
- 14:31>> Brutal.
- 14:32>> So that's that's what we got. I feel
- 14:34like what should we eat first? Are you
- 14:36thirsty?
- 14:36>> I'm thirsty. You can tell.
- 14:38>> So we're thirsty.
- 14:39>> Kind of had a detour there, so
- 14:40>> We went one way cuz we thought there was
- 14:42a park. No park. We were riding for 20
- 14:44minutes on the bicycles, but
- 14:45>> Yeah. Should I try first if you want to?
- 14:47Oh, maybe you shake it up a little bit
- 14:49like spin it upside down. Get it nice
- 14:51and I don't even see anything in there.
- 14:53>> Yeah. Anyway, let's try.
- 14:55>> I'm guessing it's going to taste like
- 14:57like raw maple syrup that comes straight
- 14:59out of the tree. It's like slightly
- 15:01sweet sugar water.
- 15:02>> Okay, why Okay, you tell me when you try
- 15:05it. First you try it.
- 15:06>> Well, that's my prediction. That's what
- 15:08I think it's going to taste like.
- 15:09>> First try it and then I'll tell you what
- 15:11I think it tastes like.
- 15:13>> Yeah, so super slightly sweet and then
- 15:16just jasmine tea. So that's basically
- 15:18what this is.
- 15:18>> I'mma be honest, to me this tastes like
- 15:21if you put a bottle of this size with
- 15:23like a shot or less of soju,
- 15:25non-flavored soju. You put a little bit
- 15:27of soju and you mix it with a bunch of
- 15:28water. This is what that is.
- 15:29>> That's what that tastes like?
- 15:30>> Doesn't it? Like think about it. Try it
- 15:32again.
- 15:32>> tastes like jasmine tea with like a tiny
- 15:34bit of sweetness.
- 15:35>> Try it again and think about it. It
- 15:36tastes like the most watered-down soju
- 15:39ever, like the fresh one.
- 15:41>> Not to me.
- 15:41>> it? Can you kind of like
- 15:42>> Like a maybe a tiny bit, but
- 15:45>> I'm right.
- 15:45>> To me it tastes like just a tiny bit of
- 15:47jasmine tea with sugar water. That's
- 15:49basically what it is cuz sap is normally
- 15:52just sweet water, right? Like it's the
- 15:54it's the water that the tree sucks up
- 15:56and brings up its trunk.
- 15:58>> I don't know. I find sap better whenever
- 16:00I try it. Okay, that was kind of mid.
- 16:02I'm still thirsty.
- 16:03>> a little refreshing though.
- 16:04>> So let's try let's try this. I hope this
- 16:06is good.
- 16:07>> Shake it up.
- 16:08>> It's very white, like it's very white
- 16:10and clear. It's kind of giving like
- 16:12bleach.
- 16:17It's like flavorless milk.
- 16:21It's soy milk, right? Yeah.
- 16:23>> That tastes just like milk.
- 16:24>> It's like It's like milk but without the
- 16:25milk flavor.
- 16:26>> it is regular milk. I think you should
- 16:28translate it.
- 16:29I don't speak
- 16:29>> I've never been a
- 16:30>> Chinese, what does this say?
- 16:31>> I've never been a fan of soy milk.
- 16:33>> It's not not anything crazy. Cucumber
- 16:35chips.
- 16:36>> Actually I think we should try the hot
- 16:38stuff first.
- 16:38>> Oh hell no. All my stomach is not
- 16:41>> Before it gets cold.
- 16:42>> not eaten anything all day and this
- 16:44guy's over here. We should try the
- 16:46hot stuff. We're going light.
- 16:49Cucumber.
- 16:50Let's try this at the same time.
- 16:52>> Okay, I'm going to predict what it's
- 16:53going to taste like. I think it's just
- 16:55going to be a sweet regular Lay's chip.
- 16:57There's not going to be like any
- 16:59cucumber flavor.
- 17:00>> Based on smell, I'm going to say it kind
- 17:02of tastes a little fishy, like seaweed.
- 17:07>> A sweet chip. It it kind of tastes like
- 17:09a not sweet plantain chip, you know?
- 17:11Like a plantain chip but not
- 17:13>> Like toothpaste.
- 17:14>> Yeah, a green plantain chip.
- 17:15>> It's just like sweet and kind of like
- 17:17slightly like a seaweed flavor.
- 17:19>> It does smell like cucumber, though.
- 17:21>> We're not going to get to this one yet.
- 17:22>> I think you should try the hot food.
- 17:24>> Bro, you try the hot food and you let me
- 17:25know how that goes.
- 17:26>> it right now.
- 17:27>> Okay. Purple gummies. They look very
- 17:29good. The package says 4D, but under it
- 17:32says 3D delicious.
- 17:34>> Wow.
- 17:37>> Okay, wow.
- 17:38>> Oh, wow.
- 17:39>> So, I'm going to predict what these are
- 17:40going to taste
- 17:41>> You don't need to predict everyone.
- 17:42>> I will because there's like a It looks
- 17:44like there's something in the middle
- 17:45there. Maybe like a jelly filling or
- 17:47something.
- 17:47>> extremely chewy. No filling.
- 17:50>> There's filling in it.
- 17:51>> No. It's so chewy. There's no filling.
- 17:54>> 4D or is it 4D delicious?
- 17:59>> Okay, there is filling, but you don't
- 18:01even notice it.
- 18:01>> That's something you wouldn't eat.
- 18:03I'm not much of a gummy gummy guy.
- 18:05>> Very chewy.
- 18:06I think we should try the sour one.
- 18:07>> Yeah. Those look good.
- 18:09>> Oh, I hope they're sour. I love sour uh
- 18:12sour foods. Ooh, my gosh.
- 18:15I'll give you two.
- 18:16>> Damn. They smell like grape. I like that
- 18:19smell.
- 18:19>> Let's try them. Bon appetit.
- 18:26>> Holy, they're chewy.
- 18:27>> Very, very chewy. It's like chewing
- 18:29rubber.
- 18:30>> This is less sour than like a sour gummy
- 18:32worm.
- 18:32>> They are not sour.
- 18:34This packaging is a lie. These things
- 18:36are not sour at all, but they are pretty
- 18:38good.
- 18:39>> Yeah, they're good. I always like
- 18:41sugar-coated gummies more than like
- 18:42regular plain gummies.
- 18:45They are really good, though.
- 18:46>> They're not sour like the slightest bit,
- 18:48but not really.
- 18:49>> Spicy chips, the first spicy thing.
- 18:51>> Oh.
- 18:53Ooh. I think we should try the hot food
- 18:54first.
- 18:56>> It's like a paper package.
- 18:57>> That's actually a really nice bag.
- 18:59>> Well, I like this bag a lot. I do like
- 19:01this bag.
- 19:02>> Reminds me of like artisanal chips or
- 19:03something.
- 19:04>> You guys be the judge. Does the
- 19:05packaging look like the product?
- 19:09>> Yeah, pretty similar.
- 19:09>> No, not at all, bro. You blind?
- 19:12>> Well, maybe it Oh, wow.
- 19:14>> I thought that was going to be really
- 19:15fluffy. It's so crunchy. It's so so
- 19:17crunchy.
- 19:18>> Ooh, some nice chili flavor.
- 19:20>> It kind of was looking like it was going
- 19:21to be puffy and like, you know, puffy,
- 19:23but it's very very crunchy.
- 19:27>> It's a rice chip.
- 19:28>> It's very crunchy. These are like
- 19:29probably the crunchiest chips I've ever
- 19:31had. These are crunchier than Miss
- 19:33Vickie's.
- 19:34>> Ooh, a little spicy though.
- 19:36>> A little bit. 1 to 10 spice, probably
- 19:38like a 0.5.
- 19:40>> Yeah.
- 19:41>> Barely any. Soy milk, you want water or
- 19:43milk?
- 19:44>> Water. That's the birch sap.
- 19:46>> Oh, wait, we're smart as hell. We got
- 19:47the milk for the spicy food. Let's keep
- 19:49that.
- 19:49>> There you go, birch sap.
- 19:50>> low-key good. Why is this the best drink
- 19:52they have?
- 19:53>> Chocolate, then onigiri, then the hot
- 19:56food.
- 19:56>> Oh, the hot Oh my god, dude. You meant
- 19:59like the food that's warm.
- 20:00>> Yeah.
- 20:01>> Actually, I think we should try the hot
- 20:02stuff first. I think we should try the
- 20:03hot food.
- 20:03>> I think we should try the hot food
- 20:05first.
- 20:05>> What in the hell, bro?
- 20:07>> You thought I was saying spicy food.
- 20:08>> was saying hot food as in spicy food. He
- 20:11was saying hot food as in
- 20:12>> trying to piece together why you said,
- 20:14"Oh, I don't want to eat that cuz I
- 20:15haven't eaten anything yet."
- 20:16>> He was saying hot food as in the hot
- 20:17food behind me.
- 20:18>> Wouldn't that be this best to eat first?
- 20:20>> Oh,
- 20:21>> Oh, it's still pretty hot though.
- 20:23>> No, it's really warm still.
- 20:25Hot food. I was like, "Why do you want
- 20:27to eat spicy food?" Okay.
- 20:29This is just a regular uh chicken
- 20:31cutlet.
- 20:33>> Dude, this is the sauce pro max. Look at
- 20:35this thing.
- 20:38>> Damn.
- 20:40>> What was this called? Something fried
- 20:42chicken?
- 20:42>> Yeah, something fried chicken.
- 20:44>> Fried teriyaki.
- 20:46>> Let me get some sauce.
- 20:47>> Oh my gosh.
- 20:50That's really good.
- 20:51>> This thing is not crispy at all.
- 20:53>> But the sauce is pretty good. Let me try
- 20:54it.
- 20:59>> Not a fan.
- 21:00>> Yeah, this one's
- 21:01>> Not a fan of that one.
- 21:02>> That's all yours, big dog.
- 21:03>> The one my brother had?
- 21:05Not a fan because I feel like it's a lot
- 21:07of dough.
- 21:07>> I think you just ate bread and
- 21:09>> Yeah, maybe.
- 21:14>> Save that one for later. What do you
- 21:15want to try?
- 21:16>> Spicy sticks. Oh, hell. Actually, the
- 21:18onigiri.
- 21:19>> Oh, you didn't get the pork knuckle. You
- 21:20got whatever this one was.
- 21:22>> It's ribs.
- 21:23>> Ribs. I thought you got pork knuckle. I
- 21:25was wrong.
- 21:26>> No, I don't think fatty meat should go
- 21:27into the onigiris.
- 21:29>> This is tuna mayo. This is the best
- 21:31onigiri I've ever had. Let me try it
- 21:33again.
- 21:34>> Don't just watch this lesson and forget
- 21:36it. Get the workbook for this video on

- 22:15>> Oh, wow. Okay, let's try this one. Oh,
- 22:18wait, they didn't warm it up, did they?
- 22:20>> No.
- 22:23>> Obviously, the tuna mayo is the go-to,
- 22:25but I wanted to try something different.
- 22:27Barbecue ribs.
- 22:34>> Okay.
- 22:35>> Let me get a bite of that one.
- 22:36>> Get the hell out of here.
- 22:37>> This would be better with mayonnaise.
- 22:38[clears throat]
- 22:39It's got a lot of garlic flavor, too. I
- 22:40don't know if I like that. Oh. Oh,
- 22:43really garlicky.
- 22:44>> Really?
- 22:44>> Yeah.
- 22:45>> You want a bite of this?
- 22:46>> No, you should have gone for the pork
- 22:47knuckle.
- 22:48>> No, that one would have been worse.
- 22:49>> How do you know?
- 22:50>> I can tell.
- 22:51>> Mhm.
- 22:51>> I don't think I can eat this.
- 22:53>> Really?
- 22:54That bad?
- 22:55>> So garlicky. Just try it.
- 22:59>> You didn't tell me.
- 23:00>> I did.
- 23:01>> You didn't I've been eating it.
- 23:05>> Well, garlic is good.
- 23:06>> It's not that bad. Maybe I just had a
- 23:08big piece of garlic. Here, try this
- 23:09piece.
- 23:09>> Oh.
- 23:10>> He's trying to get me. He's not going to
- 23:12get me.
- 23:12>> Just try a piece.
- 23:13>> All yours, big dog.
- 23:14>> It's like freaking garlic has been
- 23:16sitting out on a counter for a long
- 23:18time, and you just get that taste.
- 23:19>> Correction, you just get that taste.
- 23:22>> I can't eat this.
- 23:23>> Chocolate. Dude, this looks good.
- 23:25>> Need to wash it down with the birch sap.
- 23:27>> White chocolate. Dove. I see this brand
- 23:29all over China. Is this Chinese?
- 23:31>> Oh, it's like Dove soap.
- 23:32>> Ooh. Is that rice inside?
- 23:34>> I didn't get any texture.
- 23:36>> Maybe that was the sugar I was chewing.
- 23:37Really good.
- 23:41Next chocolate, milk. So, I just open
- 23:44the package. It's like a rocket ship.
- 23:50Oh, wow. The inside is like white
- 23:52chocolate.
- 23:52>> Is it?
- 23:53>> Look at that.
- 23:54>> Mosquito.
- 23:58It kind of reminds me of Kinder.
- 24:00>> Kinder chocolate.
- 24:00>> Mhm.
- 24:01>> Pretty good, eh?
- 24:01>> That is pretty good.
- 24:03>> Slightly bitter.
- 24:03>> But for three yuan, I think that's a
- 24:05little expensive. You can get that
- 24:06full-size Snickers for six.
- 24:08>> Was it three?
- 24:09>> Yeah.
- 24:09>> Oh, it must be a higher quality
- 24:11chocolate, then. What's the last thing?
- 24:13>> Spicy stuff.
- 24:14>> this is the last thing.
- 24:15>> Yeah, I've seen this in like so many
- 24:17TikToks.
- 24:18>> I've never seen this.
- 24:19I don't know how I feel about this.
- 24:21>> Pretty sure it's just like spicy coated
- 24:24gluten fried sticks.
- 24:26>> Like a rice cake thing?
- 24:27>> Like pure gluten.
- 24:29>> Is it chewy?
- 24:29>> Probably. Let me take a bite.
- 24:36>> I'll take a stick.
- 24:40Oh, yeah. Ooh.
- 24:41>> That's spicy. Okay, that's the spiciest
- 24:43thing we've had.
- 24:44>> In the videos, they always make it look
- 24:45spicy. They go
- 24:47>> It's not that spicy, but it's like a
- 24:49I'll say three out of 10. Probably a
- 24:50three out of 10 spice.
- 24:52>> Wow.
- 24:53>> The noodles we had the other day,
- 24:55six, seven
- 24:56out of 10.
- 24:58>> Yeah, those are way spicier. Those
- 24:59noodles were very very spicy. Okay, out
- 25:02of everything here, everything we've
- 25:04tried, what is your favorite thing? Are
- 25:07you talking to me?
- 25:09Probably these spicy sticks. Bro, stop
- 25:11the cap. Who you trying to LARP for?
- 25:16Nah, probably these spicy sticks. You
- 25:18got to ask. Yeah, they got a really good
- 25:20flavor. They're They're not just spicy.
- 25:22They're like chewy, fragrant, but
- 25:24compared to everything else, like I
- 25:26could say white chocolate, but I don't
- 25:27really like white chocolate that much.
- 25:29I'd rather have milk chocolate instead
- 25:30of pure white chocolate. I guess I'd say
- 25:32my favorite salty thing was these salty
- 25:34snack, these spicy sticks, and my
- 25:36favorite sweet thing was the small piece
- 25:38of chocolate with the white chocolate
- 25:41inside. My turn. My favorite
- 25:44I don't know. I just like white
- 25:45chocolate. I don't even like it. I love
- 25:47it, but I feel like it's That was just
- 25:49the same white chocolate as anywhere
- 25:50else in the world. These chips, nothing
- 25:52special. These chips, I probably
- 25:53wouldn't get again. Nothing special.
- 25:55These gummies made and chewy. Spicy
- 25:57sticks, not really my thing. I I
- 25:58>> [clears throat]
- 25:58>> it's kind of weird. Like not not my
- 26:00thing.
- 26:01The soy milk, not a crazy flavor. So, I
- 26:03would have to give it to the sour
- 26:04gummies. They're not like that sour.
- 26:07Onigiri is too basic. It's not like
- 26:08something Chinese, but that's the best
- 26:10onigiri I've ever had. But, it's too
- 26:11basic. I'd have to give it to this.
- 26:13They're both nice and sour. They're not
- 26:14crazy sour, but the flavor is very nice.
- 26:16It has a very nice grape flavor, and you
- 26:18can see they're like these long sticks,
- 26:20this rectangular shape, and they are
- 26:22coated with like sugar and also like I
- 26:24guess the stuff that makes it sour.
- 26:26That's all the food we had today to show
- 26:28you guys. This was the studio. Camera on
- 26:30there. Backpack as a table. And these
- 26:33were the snacks. Chips, milk, chocolate,
- 26:36gummies, hot foods. Leon drank that
- 26:38whole drink and those. Chinese LARPer
- 26:41right here. I love Chinese food. Chinese
- 26:43LARPer. And this is the park we were
- 26:44filming in. And there were just like
- 26:46people going about their day. And if it
- 26:48was loud, you can blame those
- 26:49construction guys. My bad. We couldn't
- 26:51find another park.
- 26:53We have now finished trying all the
- 26:55snacks we bought from a Chinese
- 26:57convenience store. Some were familiar,
- 27:00while others had flavors and textures
- 27:02that surprised us. Trying local snacks
- 27:05is an enjoyable way to learn about a
- 27:07country because even an ordinary bag of
- 27:10chips or candy can taste completely
- 27:13different from what we are used to. When
- 27:15describing snacks, we can talk about
- 27:18flavor and texture.
- 27:20A snack might taste sweet, salty, sour,
- 27:23spicy, savory, or slightly bitter. Its
- 27:28flavor may be mild at first and then
- 27:30become stronger, or it may leave an
- 27:33unusual aftertaste. Some snacks combine
- 27:37several flavors, such as sweet and sour,
- 27:39or salty and spicy. Texture describes
- 27:43how food feels when we bite and chew it.
- 27:46Chips may be thin, light, crispy, and
- 27:50crunchy. Candy may be soft, sticky,
- 27:54chewy, or firm. Crackers may feel dry
- 27:58and crumbly, while a drink can be
- 28:00smooth, creamy, or refreshing. Not every
- 28:04snack became a favorite, but that was
- 28:07part of the fun. Some were delicious,
- 28:11some were unusual, and a few were
- 28:14difficult to describe. By the end, we
- 28:16felt full, entertained, and glad that we
- 28:20had tried something new.
