Soul Ties - You Must Know This! — Transcript

1. 0:00-One of the things that I've dealt in ministry and being as a pastor is
2. 0:04helping people sometimes to recognize certain things that hold them back
3. 0:08from moving forward in their relationships,
4. 0:10or moving forward in their life with God.
5. 0:13A lot of times there are these invisible chains that hold us back
6. 0:16to a particular event or a particular person.
7. 0:19And they are not actually like demonic spirits but they are soul ties.
8. 0:23Now I understand so many people say,
9. 0:25"Well, this is just a charismatic invention of people who do deliverance,
10. 0:28this is totally not true,"
11. 0:30We are going to dive into the Scripture
12. 0:31and look at what Bible says about soul ties,
13. 0:34and most importantly how for us to break ungodly soul ties.
14. 0:40Let's start with the first verse.
15. 0:42Genesis 44:30 it says,
16. 0:45"Now therefore, when I come to your servant my father,
17. 0:48"and the lad is not with us,
18. 0:51"since his life is bound up in the lad’s life,
19. 0:55it will happen, when he sees that the lad is not with us, he will die."
20. 1:00So one of the sons of Jacob is saying to Joseph in Egypt,
21. 1:05he says that Jacob's life is tied
22. 1:08his life- his soul is tied, bound up,
23. 1:12meaning together, bound up to the life of Benjamin.
24. 1:16So that means that Jacob had this soul tie to his son Benjamin.
25. 1:22Partially it was because Joseph was gone,
26. 1:24and then the mother of Joseph and Benjamin
27. 1:28she died at childbirth of Benjamin.
28. 1:31And there was this very strong tie that Jacob had to Benjamin.
29. 1:35Now let's look another example.
30. 1:37It's the example that most people hear about David and Jonathan.
31. 1:40In Samuel 18:1 it says the following,
32. 1:43"Now when he had finished speaking to Saul,
33. 1:46"the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David,
34. 1:51and Jonathan loved him as his own soul."
35. 1:53So I want you to see, one soul is knit to the soul.
36. 1:58It's pretty much like bound up.
37. 2:00It is connected.
38. 2:01So where we get the idea of soul ties it's when your soul
39. 2:05becomes knit together with another person's soul.
40. 2:09David's soul, David's emotions, David's inner being
41. 2:13not his spirit but his soul was tied up,
42. 2:16like chained, bound, knit together with the soul of Jonathan.
43. 2:21Now let's look at the people of Judah, the tribe of Judah in 2 Samuel 20:2
44. 2:27"So every man of Israel went up from after David,
45. 2:35"and followed Sheba the son of Bichri.
46. 2:39"but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan to Jerusalem.
47. 2:46in King James Version.
48. 2:48Claved- meaning they got attached,
49. 2:51they got knit together,
50. 2:53they closely follow.
51. 2:56They got pretty much infused with David.
52. 3:00The rest of Israelites, they walked away from David.
53. 3:03But the men of Judah had this close connection to this leader of theirs
54. 3:08their king.
55. 3:10So as we are seeing already, parents can have very close ties to their children.
56. 3:17Friends can have very close emotional and soulish ties to their friends.
57. 3:23People can have these ties to their leaders-
58. 3:27people in authority, teachers, pastors
59. 3:31or somebody that they look up to as a person of authority.
60. 3:34Let's look at one more.
61. 3:35Shechem was strongly attached to the daughter of Jacob, Dinah.
62. 3:42I want to listen to this verse, Genesis 34:3
63. 3:47"His soul," talks about Shechem,
64. 3:49"His soul was strongly attached to Dinah the daughter of Jacob,
65. 3:55and he loved the young woman and spoke kindly to the young woman."
66. 3:59It's interesting that it followed on the footsteps of him raping her.
67. 4:05They had a physical connection and then something happened;
68. 4:09she becomes connected to him, and he becomes strongly attached.
69. 4:15He becomes connected, knit to her soul.
70. 4:19And a lot of times that's what happens.
71. 4:20When people have sex, they develop soul ties.
72. 4:26Sometimes these soul ties can develop not through sex,
73. 4:29they can develop through an obsession that you have with a person
74. 4:32or some kind of a thing that you go with a person that can really anchor you in
75. 4:37that's not even physical.
76. 4:38Like for example David and Jonathan, this wasn't a physical relationship.
77. 4:42It was very emotional relationship that they had.
78. 4:45Same thing with Jacob and Benjamin,
79. 4:47he had a very close almost like unhealthy dependence upon his son
80. 4:53because the other children of Jacob noticed that if Benjamin is gone,
81. 4:58Jacob is going to die and that is not healthy.
82. 5:01Now, the Bible talks about husband and wife have this relationship.
83. 5:06In Genesis 2:24 it says that a man shall leave his father and his mother
84. 5:09be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.
85. 5:14They are knit together.
86. 5:15There is this knitting together between husband and wife.
87. 5:19And then we are going to look at one more verse
88. 5:21and then I want to talk about how to begin to break those unhealthy soul ties.
89. 5:26So as you are noticing there is healthy soul ties
90. 5:29and there are unhealthy soul ties.
91. 5:30So soul ties in themselves are not bad.
92. 5:33The problem begins to happen when we have unhealthy soul ties
93. 5:36by which we are controlled, dominated and manipulated
94. 5:39or we are dragged on by our past,
95. 5:41or we are still connected to some kind of previous relationship of our past
96. 5:46that we need to move on from.
97. 5:49Colossians 2:2 it says, "that their hearts may be encouraged,
98. 5:53"being knit together in love,
99. 5:56and attaining to all the riches of the full assurance of understanding,
100. 6:00to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ."
101. 6:05So we as believers, we are knit together to other believers in love.
102. 6:10Not in control,
103. 6:11not in guilt,
104. 6:13not in domination,
105. 6:14not in some kind of you know, where somebody exercises domination over you,
106. 6:20but in love.
107. 6:21We are knit together as different parts of our bodies are knit together
108. 6:25so is we, the members of Jesus Christ.
109. 6:27We are knit together not just to the Lord, but to each other.
110. 6:31We are knit together in love.
111. 6:33God is in the business of restoring your soul.
112. 6:37If certain parts of your soul are stuck somewhere else
113. 6:41in the previous relationships, in the previous episodes of your life,
114. 6:45in the previous seasons of your life,
115. 6:46maybe through certain activities that you were involved in
116. 6:50that some portions of your soul are stuck somewhere else,
117. 6:53the Lord wants to restore your soul.
118. 6:56In fact, the Bible wants us to worship God with all of our soul.
119. 7:02That means He doesn't want us to give fragments of our soul
120. 7:06to an abusive relationship.
121. 7:08He doesn't want us to leave fragments of our soul, portions of our soul
122. 7:12in these particular things, in some kind of a previous relationship.
123. 7:16He doesn't want people to have hooks to our soul
124. 7:20and for them to hold us back.
125. 7:22He wants us to worship Him with all of our soul - 100% of your soul.
126. 7:27Not just with your spirit but with your soul, with your mind, with your emotions.
127. 7:33And the Bible even says that in Psalm,
128. 7:36in Psalms 23: 3 it says, "He restores my soul;"
129. 7:40So maybe your soul got broken down as you went through relationships,
130. 7:43as you went through maybe abusive relationships.
131. 7:47Perhaps you went through relationships where you were manipulated, controlled
132. 7:51you were taken advantage of,
133. 7:53God forbid, raped, molested.
134. 7:55Maybe you had a very unhealthy dominant parent authority
135. 8:00that just dominated your life and destroyed and broke your soul down.
136. 8:05Perhaps you had somebody in authority in the spiritual place who destroyed
137. 8:10or took certain portions of your soul and just crushed them,
138. 8:13the Lord wants you to worship Him with all of your soul.
139. 8:16He wants to remove all the hooks from your soul
140. 8:18and He wants to restore your soul
141. 8:21so you can become a healthy being in your soul.
142. 8:26The devil wants to tear your soul to pieces.
143. 8:29And this is where the main verse about soul ties comes from
144. 8:33in Psalms 7:2
145. 8:37It says, "Lest they tear your soul like a lion,
146. 8:40Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver."
147. 8:45So the devil like a lion wants to tear your soul to fragments,
148. 8:49to pieces, to portions, so you are no longer a whole person.
149. 8:54You are a person with holes, you are a person with hooks,
150. 8:57you are person with fragments, you are broken down.
151. 9:00That's what the devil wants.
152. 9:02But God wants to restore your soul.
153. 9:04God wants to bring your soul back
154. 9:08so that with your soul, you can praise Him and worship Him fully.
155. 9:14So, in the conclusion of this message,
156. 9:16what do we want to do if you found yourself today with soul ties?
157. 9:20If you found yourself with hooks, broken pieces in your soul.
158. 9:23I'm going to give you just 4 R's to consider.
159. 9:26Number one is to repent of ungodly soul ties.
160. 9:30Repent of any sexual sins.
161. 9:33Repent of depending on someone
162. 9:36even if it's your parent.
163. 9:38Even if it's your ex-boyfriend.
164. 9:40Even if it's your spiritual authority,
165. 9:41where you lost your individuality,
166. 9:45where you lost your person-hood.
167. 9:47You got so obsessed with this person.
168. 9:49You admired this person so much or perhaps you were so fascinated,
169. 9:54or perhaps you were so weak and this person took advantage of that,
170. 9:57and you let that happen.
171. 9:59Repent of any known sins where you've opened the door
172. 10:02for your heart, for your soul,
173. 10:06become a prisoner, broken and tore to pieces by the enemy
174. 10:12because of willfully going into relationships
175. 10:16that God didn't want you to be in.
176. 10:17Or allowing yourself to go so deep in depending on the other person
177. 10:21that you lost who you are,
178. 10:22you lost the freedom to think, to make decisions
179. 10:26and the freedom to be who you are and who God made you to be.
180. 10:29Number two is renounce ungodly soul ties.
181. 10:33Renounce ungodly soul ties of co-dependence
182. 10:37maybe on your parents
183. 10:38where you can't function today and you are over 30 years of age,
184. 10:41and you can't be you.
185. 10:42You can't make decisions because you're so dependent in an unhealthy way.
186. 10:47Renounce any soul tie you may have to your ex-boyfriend or your ex-girlfriend.
187. 10:52Perhaps to someone who victimized you, renounce these soul ties.
188. 10:56Perhaps somebody that you had a one night stand, renounce those things.
189. 11:01Repent of them and then renounce them.
190. 11:03Maybe you had a situation that this guy had with the daughter of Jacob,
191. 11:06renounce those things because these are spiritual.
192. 11:10These are like little hooks connected to your soul dragging you
193. 11:13and keeping you from going forward where God wants you to be.
194. 11:17Number three,
195. 11:18remove any objects that connects you to that person or that event;
196. 11:24especially if it's relationships that ended- romantic relationships.
197. 11:29Or relationships that were very toxic and unhealthy.
198. 11:31Gifts, objects,
199. 11:34sometimes people have different scarfs,
200. 11:37different little necklaces, earrings, perfume, cologne,
201. 11:43they have different notes, photos;
202. 11:48anything that gets you connected to those things.
203. 11:52Just let the Lord lead you to that.
204. 11:54This is not some kind of a law or legalism where--
205. 11:57if something connects you to that, just remove that from your possession.
206. 12:01Remove that from your life
207. 12:03because that thing is over
208. 12:05and whatever that it was over with, it needs to die together with it.
209. 12:08That does not need to drag into your future.
210. 12:12Remove those objects that connect you to those soul ties.
211. 12:16I know people who sometimes hear messages like this
212. 12:19and as a pastor I deal with people who are trying to get married
213. 12:23and sometimes they had a previous relationship where things didn't work out
214. 12:26and they feel this drawn to other person.
215. 12:28They know they shouldn't be with that person.
216. 12:30The other person already got married
217. 12:32and they still feel like, "man,but this is it for me," and they feel stuck.
218. 12:37And the moment they take the objects, the pictures, the notes
219. 12:40even the, I remember one person, scarf that was holding her back,
220. 12:44remove it.
221. 12:45God just opens a door and they are able to move forward
222. 12:48into the next thing that God has for them.
223. 12:50And number four is receive restoration from the Spirit of God.
224. 12:56This is the work of the Holy Spirit.
225. 12:58Now, you might need counseling, you might need professional help,
226. 13:02but Holy Spirit is honestly the best helper.
227. 13:05I'm not in anyway discrediting or belittling or minimizing
228. 13:08the importance of counseling or therapy or professional help
229. 13:12but the Spirit of God is your helper as well.
230. 13:15He wants to repair your soul.
231. 13:17He wants to bring your soul back.
232. 13:19He wants to renew your soul.
233. 13:21He wants to put you back together.
234. 13:24He wants you to be whole again.
235. 13:27Not the person with hook and holes but for your soul to be whole again.
