- 0:49the case of Diane Downs
- 0:54okay I'm going to start talking a little
- 0:56bit about the person who's Central in
- 0:58this case who is Diane Downs she was
- 1:01born on August 7 of 1955 in Phoenix
- 1:05Arizona under the name of Elizabeth
- 1:07Diane Frederickson this is her maiden
- 1:10name I'm going to tell you more about
- 1:12this later when she gets her last name
- 1:14downs and that's how she's known until
- 1:16now her father was Wesley and then and
- 1:19her mother was Willie James Fred
- 1:21Erickson it is said that her childhood
- 1:23wasn't as normal as it thought on many
- 1:26occasions and not similar to most people
- 1:29it seemed that when she was 12 years old
- 1:32her father started to abuse her and
- 1:35everything happened behind the closed
- 1:37doors let's say that nobody talked about
- 1:39that but they presented the picture of a
- 1:41safe United and beautiful family when in
- 1:45reality all those things were happening
- 1:47inside their home she went to the Moon
- 1:49Valley High School it was her school her
- 1:52High School however she always felt
- 1:55attracted to feeling or seeming older
- 1:58than she was by that time in 1960 people
- 2:02say that she started to dress herself as
- 2:04she was older than she was and she also
- 2:07started to feel attracted to and seek
- 2:10older men in high school she also meets
- 2:14a man called sip downs and that's where
- 2:17her married last name come from he kind
- 2:19of became the love of her life
- 2:21nonetheless she decides or well her
- 2:24family decides to take her to a Baptist
- 2:26school called Pacific Coast Baptist
- 2:30Bible College which was like an
- 2:32University but handled by all that
- 2:35branch of a religious Baptist school all
- 2:38this happened in Orange California I
- 2:41mean she moved from Phoenix where she
- 2:42lived originally to go there to Orange
- 2:44that obviously kept her apart from her
- 2:47partner from Steve but let's say that
- 2:49they kept that love intact that's what
- 2:51they wanted however eventually the girl
- 2:54was expelled from this school for her
- 2:57bad behavior but that behavior wasn't
- 3:01like she was doing badly in classes that
- 3:03she didn't show up for them or she was
- 3:05being rude no not at all she had a
- 3:07promiscuous Behavior towards many people
- 3:10which was denounced by her classmates
- 3:12and professors and she ended up expelled
- 3:15which forced her to go back to Arizona
- 3:17with her parents at the same time her
- 3:20partner well Steve was also enlisting
- 3:23for the U.S Navy and he went to serve
- 3:26with them for a while by 1973 both of
- 3:30them were in a stage of life where they
- 3:32could be together so they decide to get
- 3:34married on the 3rd of November of that
- 3:37year and started life together as an
- 3:39independent couple he was back from the
- 3:41navi and she kept trying to find other
- 3:44ways of studying and go ahead after she
- 3:47was expelled from school but there's
- 3:49when things started to fail a little bit
- 3:51many people also think that they were
- 3:53too young and they start having problems
- 3:56and the biggest problems of this
- 3:58relationship were mainly two one of them
- 4:02was the financial aspect because of
- 4:04everything I've told you and the second
- 4:06one was the infidelities and you and I
- 4:09think this is a very common conception
- 4:11you may think it was the husband's
- 4:13faults because of many beliefs we have
- 4:15due to this Society but this wasn't the
- 4:17case actually all DM fidelities and all
- 4:21the problems were on Diane's side but
- 4:24let's say they kept going like that with
- 4:26that mute pain so to call it and that's
- 4:28when they start having their children
- 4:30and they had three kids after the first
- 4:33year they were married the first one
- 4:35called Christine Anne was born in 1974
- 4:38the second of them was Cheryl Lynn their
- 4:41second daughter born in 1976 and the
- 4:45last one was a song called Steven Daniel
- 4:47born in
- 4:491979. what happened Diane also became
- 4:53sort of at attached mother even in the
- 4:55year which her first daughter was born
- 4:57Christine Anne she decided to enlist in
- 5:00the Navy just as her husband had done
- 5:02and she abandoned them for some months
- 5:04she also tried to leave to distance
- 5:06herself from everything and the whole
- 5:08topic of infidelities so Steve took care
- 5:11of their daughter however only three
- 5:13weeks passed until Diane came back from
- 5:16the navi basically because she said she
- 5:19had many injuries that they didn't take
- 5:21care of and that she was feeling poorly
- 5:22which was in truth it simply seems like
- 5:24she got bored of that life and decided
- 5:27to go back to her reality what happened
- 5:29also before they had their last son
- 5:31during that time of so many fights
- 5:33things that happened and the opinions
- 5:35she had her husband Steve decided to
- 5:38have a vasectomy according to Diane's
- 5:40version the vasectomy didn't work and
- 5:43that's when they had their third son
- 5:44Stephen however the man knew it had
- 5:47worked that the procedure was done
- 5:49correctly and that there was no way that
- 5:51they could have had that last Sun so
- 5:53that's when when he started suspecting
- 5:55that his son Stephen Daniel was not
- 5:57really his but the product of some other
- 6:00infidelity she had with other men they
- 6:03keep fighting a lot Stephen was tired of
- 6:05the situation and the infidelities and
- 6:08also the fact that they often times she
- 6:10used those pregnancies to get what she
- 6:12wanted it was like she wanted to have
- 6:15children for that so people could see
- 6:17her differently so they respect her a
- 6:19little she wasn't really interested in
- 6:22taking care of her children keep them
- 6:23safe and calm incapable of fixing
- 6:26everything that was happening they
- 6:28decide to get a divorce in 1980.
- 6:31obviously many argued that it was a
- 6:33marriage done at a very young age
- 6:35without love that they had many problems
- 6:38and people even say that seep was also
- 6:40very irresponsible that he really liked
- 6:43gambling or going to casinos and stuff
- 6:45like that and he was very immature to
- 6:47take care of his children so I think the
- 6:49fathers on both sides but waiting more
- 6:51when taking that decision was Diane
- 6:53added to it and everything she did
- 6:55within the relationship after all this
- 6:58happened Diane became even more detached
- 7:00she became even more negligent to their
- 7:02kids sometimes she forgot to feed them
- 7:04give them studies well a bunch of things
- 7:07that they were Basics and obviously the
- 7:09husband didn't like well the ex-husband
- 7:11didn't have the kids custody so they
- 7:13didn't pay attention to them what
- 7:15happened for her it became more of a
- 7:17priority to flirt with men to go out
- 7:19with them than to take care of her own
- 7:21kids by this time she also tried to by
- 7:24this time she was like 25 years old but
- 7:27she tried to became a surrogate mother
- 7:29she wanted to rent her womb to have
- 7:31children because she had also heard
- 7:33about the money she could get in
- 7:35exchange for doing that so she tried
- 7:38that a couple of times but she failed
- 7:40because she didn't pass some
- 7:42psychological tests that I required for
- 7:44let's say it go through with this
- 7:46process even so at some point she was
- 7:49able to have a fourth child being a
- 7:51surrogate mother selling the child for
- 7:5310 ten thousand dollars they say the
- 7:56daughter was called Jennifer but after
- 7:58that it wasn't known which was her true
- 8:00identity by that time her daughter's
- 8:03grandparents said that she the oldest
- 8:06daughter she started telling them that
- 8:08she was afraid of her own mother maybe
- 8:11that kind of negligence that same
- 8:14attitude towards Sam made her own kid
- 8:16sister to say it without anyone knowing
- 8:19that they were afraid of her own mother
- 8:21the children constantly look
- 8:23malnourished very wrecked and even the
- 8:25grandparents tried to take care of them
- 8:28but it wasn't the same often the oldest
- 8:31daughter was left in charge of the other
- 8:34siblings when they were only five or six
- 8:36years old in 1981 one year after she
- 8:40officially ended her marriage because of
- 8:43work she meets a man called Robert
- 8:46people call him Nick
- 8:48Knickerbocker which was his last name
- 8:51I've never heard it before but he was
- 8:53based basically a man who helped her in
- 8:55work-related stuff she had in that
- 8:58moment so Beckham said she had found so
- 9:00he became kind of a co-worker for her
- 9:02but Diane started falling profoundly in
- 9:04love with him he was a knowledgeable man
- 9:07and he had everything he was like it was
- 9:10very handsome well a lot of things
- 9:12started attracting her however he was
- 9:16married but he also on some occasions
- 9:19had some affairs with Diane you can
- 9:21imagine but in one of these Affairs he
- 9:24said that for him Diane children were
- 9:26like an obstacle for he say to her look
- 9:28I don't want to have children in my life
- 9:30I don't have children we don't have
- 9:32children with my wife because precisely
- 9:34for me they're like an obstacle and I
- 9:36rather not have them so this caused um
- 9:39Diane to be very very sad for she was
- 9:42very obsessed and in love with this man
- 9:45people also say that by this time when
- 9:48she was really obsessed with him she
- 9:50wrote him Letters Daily explaining and
- 9:52telling him things they even say that
- 9:54she received some letters from him in
- 9:57which he promised her he will leave his
- 10:00wife for her but later on we will talk
- 10:02more about this topic because it's
- 10:04really important to do so and I wanted
- 10:06you to know a little bit about this
- 10:08girl's life background so we can dive
- 10:12deeply into what happens in this case it
- 10:15was April of 1983 and Diane got a new
- 10:18job in Springfield in Oregon it was a
- 10:22job as an employee for a post service
- 10:25office or well postal stuff she was
- 10:28comfortable there but not so happy for
- 10:31she had left the place where she was
- 10:33close to Robert who was like her great
- 10:35new Love and the person she was obsessed
- 10:37with it came a day which was May 19 of
- 10:421983. she thought she wanted to go back
- 10:45to the place where Robert was but she
- 10:48had to do something like some errands so
- 10:51to speak before she could arrange the
- 10:53paperwork to go back she was going to
- 10:56visit a friend of hers that live in that
- 10:59City to talk for a while she goes with
- 11:02her kids and around 9 30 PM she goes
- 11:05back using a road that's not very
- 11:07crowded called old Mohawk Road this is a
- 11:10brutal road which she could use to go
- 11:13home but there were many cars she
- 11:15decides to take that road at that hour
- 11:17because she thinks it's the fastest way
- 11:18to go home everything that I'm telling
- 11:20you it's like her version of what
- 11:22happened so we can discover step by step
- 11:25what happened she said her kids were
- 11:28asleep that everything was calm and in
- 11:31silence she was playing music and she
- 11:33even perfectly remembers the song that
- 11:35was playing in that moment called Hungry
- 11:38Like the Wolf or something like that
- 11:40which was supposedly a song that was
- 11:42very popular in that time she perfectly
- 11:44remembers how that song was playing on
- 11:45the radio suddenly she sees that there's
- 11:47a man standing in the road like asking
- 11:49for help in this road where he was
- 11:52standing there was like a river on one
- 11:54side and like a grass terrain without
- 11:56anything else on the other she tries to
- 11:59ask like she rolls down the window and
- 12:01says like well what do you need but then
- 12:04this man points a gun at her and tells
- 12:07her to surrender the car basically he's
- 12:09obviously trying to rob her she says
- 12:12that they begin to struggle and in that
- 12:15moment she apparently steps out of the
- 12:17car keeps struggling with him so he can
- 12:20take the car but the man shuts her in
- 12:23the left arm with quite a name what she
- 12:26does is try to throw the keys so he
- 12:28doesn't attack her anymore and so he can
- 12:31take the car and the kids while that's
- 12:33happening she says the man gets closer
- 12:35from outside the car to the window and
- 12:38shots every single one of the kids she
- 12:41says she doesn't know where she found
- 12:43the strained to pitch the man far away
- 12:45from the car then she opens the door a
- 12:48step in and accelerates like crazy so
- 12:50she can get fast into the hospital she
- 12:53obviously tell all this so that people
- 12:54understand what just happened why the
- 12:57kids are like that let's say that one of
- 12:59the saddest and most delicate things is
- 13:02that Cheryl the middle daughter arrives
- 13:05to the hospital and she's dead she's the
- 13:07only one that's dead and there's no way
- 13:10they can bring her back but her siblings
- 13:13her older sister has a gunshot very
- 13:16close to the skull which starts to limit
- 13:19her so they put her in an induced coma
- 13:21her son is obviously paralyzed from the
- 13:24legs down but anyway obviously everybody
- 13:27talks about it they say what a great
- 13:30tragedy imagine a man who is going to
- 13:32steal your cards and end up killing your
- 13:35children well some of your children
- 13:37leaving the rest Gravely endured and
- 13:40yourself where she had her arm
- 13:42completely injured that was the moment
- 13:45when the investigation obviously started
- 13:47interviews were done she talked again
- 13:49about all the facts to really understand
- 13:52the and started looking for the culprit
- 13:55of this because she said she hadn't as
- 13:57lightest idea of who could it be but
- 13:59what happened some particular things
- 14:02started happened and the people began
- 14:04doubting about what happened that night
- 14:07one of the first things that they start
- 14:10noticing is that the mother is not
- 14:12distraught I mean the mother is in a
- 14:14state she should be in complete shock
- 14:16crying not being able to process talk I
- 14:19don't know but she's completely normal
- 14:21there is even a moment in when she
- 14:24worries more about how the card ended up
- 14:26she say like this ruined my card instead
- 14:29of really think about her children she
- 14:31starts giving versions in different TV
- 14:33shows interviews begin being done to her
- 14:36because all of this were months and
- 14:38months of Investigations she goes to
- 14:39Oprah and says that they were like up 30
- 14:42witnesses that day which is not true
- 14:44because nobody saw that person there's a
- 14:48clip also for a TV show which I think
- 14:50it's one of the strangers I'm going to
- 14:53show it to you obviously and it is
- 14:55basically when they ask her to tell her
- 14:57to recreate after several weeks of the
- 14:59tragedy happening to recreate what
- 15:01happened that day here is like
- 15:03especially notorious and people notice
- 15:05that she's in a very particular attitude
- 15:07she's laughing like showing off herself
- 15:11there's even a moment in which she mocks
- 15:14herself for hitting her cast and in
- 15:16other moments she says like this is
- 15:18almost the same as that moment in which
- 15:20and many things she was going to finish
- 15:23that sentence saying shot myself this
- 15:26interview it's very particular because
- 15:28it's like friend you just lost your
- 15:31daughter and the other two are critical
- 15:34which is there like nothing happened
- 15:36recreating laughing everything is very
- 15:39odd there's another interview too I'm
- 15:41showing it to you here in which she even
- 15:43gets upset because people are doubting
- 15:45her I wouldn't walk in there and say
- 15:46this weird person came about an hour and
- 15:49shot us for no reason and just left I
- 15:51mean that's not a believable story I
- 15:53could have if I had done this I could
- 15:55have come up with a believable story it
- 15:57really happened after when they did an
- 15:59exhaustive investigation of the crime
- 16:01scene and everything there were some
- 16:03gunshots and like certain blood
- 16:05splatters that didn't match the version
- 16:07she was giving for the attackers
- 16:09supposedly shot her from outside so they
- 16:12shouldn't be certain blood splatter in
- 16:14some areas she supposedly chopped them
- 16:16from one side and not from the other so
- 16:19they were things that were matching at
- 16:21some point she according to the
- 16:23hospital's version entered her daughter
- 16:25room to see her and she obviously
- 16:28couldn't talk because there was an after
- 16:30effect from The Gunshot but they say
- 16:32that the daughter's heart rate started
- 16:34spiking like crazy also after several
- 16:37months and so much pressure they
- 16:39obviously interrogate her more they even
- 16:41submitted her to a 16-hour interrogation
- 16:43the kind ones that I used to discover
- 16:45the truth but she was unable to say
- 16:47anything she simply got really upset and
- 16:50say some things she hadn't said before
- 16:52there she he started to say that
- 16:54apparently she knew the person who shot
- 16:56her kids and obviously the cops said
- 16:59like well if you know who he was tell us
- 17:01tell us because that could be a key
- 17:03piece of information for this
- 17:04investigation and the only thing she did
- 17:06was get upset much more upset she even
- 17:08in that recording leaves the place you
- 17:10do know who did yes I do I damn sure do
- 17:13you know him by name
- 17:16yep it's pretty important and I saw him
- 17:19grab my arm and yank my arm out and
- 17:22shoot my arm and said now try to get
- 17:23away with it
- 17:25and I'm leaving because I know who did
- 17:27it bye
- 17:29it's now 17. 46
- 17:34band is just Departed the office we're
- 17:37concluding the paper during one
- 17:39investigation she also confessed she
- 17:41didn't have any gun that the culprit
- 17:43couldn't beat her for that reason but it
- 17:45was completely false for the police
- 17:47ended up finding inside her Comic-Con
- 17:49again that perfectly matched they want
- 17:52to use the night of that crime besides
- 17:55her ex-husband and her new love who she
- 17:58was obsessed with confirmed this
- 18:00information they also found the letters
- 18:02and the diary which were full of
- 18:04references and messages to Robert her
- 18:07new love about her complete Obsession
- 18:09she even talked about him not wanting
- 18:11kids and how she could make that not a
- 18:13problem between the both of them there
- 18:15was also a very important testimony from
- 18:18a man who said that he saw her driving
- 18:20towards to the hospital that night that
- 18:23her kids were supposedly shot but he say
- 18:26that contrary to what she had said that
- 18:28she had gone full speed he said that she
- 18:30was going painfully slow that he even
- 18:33was behind her and his speed matter
- 18:35almost didn't raise because of how slow
- 18:37they were going he even said that he
- 18:40hung and had to surpass her because she
- 18:43was going too slow after that Robert
- 18:46started talking as a witness to all of
- 18:48this and he said that indeed that woman
- 18:50was starting to get obsessed with him
- 18:52that even on some occasion she
- 18:54threatened him and his wife if she
- 18:56couldn't be with him he also said that
- 18:58he was very glad she had moved to Oregon
- 19:00so he could build his home again and
- 19:03stay away from that tragedy what
- 19:05happened there were many proven reasons
- 19:07to suspect the woman and there was how
- 19:10on February 28 of 1984 nine months after
- 19:14the tragedy she finally is a wrestler
- 19:17for being a prime suspect what happened
- 19:20let's say that the easiest way they
- 19:22found to prove this was the following
- 19:24her daughter started waking up from the
- 19:27comma evidently she wasn't able to speak
- 19:30and started a treatment with a
- 19:32psychiatrist and everything so she could
- 19:33get better her psychiatrists asked her
- 19:36for something very particular and told
- 19:38her to write the name of the person who
- 19:40attacked her that night and throw it
- 19:42into the fire he told her that only when
- 19:45she felt ready to please hand him the
- 19:46piece of paper they say this therapy
- 19:49lasted for some weeks or months and she
- 19:51always burned the paper until one day
- 19:53she finally gave it to the therapist and
- 19:56in the paper the girl had written my mom
- 19:59that's how everyone suspicious is
- 20:02confirmed basically Diane shot her kids
- 20:06that night and I know it's terrible
- 20:09friends and well basically let's say
- 20:11that this is a very tragic case and I'm
- 20:13going to tell you broadly about the
- 20:15conditions behind this case her daughter
- 20:18Christine received a gunshot that cost
- 20:20her a stroke and that's why she ended up
- 20:23not being able to speak among many other
- 20:26things her brother Danny who was three
- 20:28years old in that moment ended up
- 20:30completely paralyzed from the legs down
- 20:32later on Christine complete recollection
- 20:35of what happened is revealed from
- 20:37Christine who is the one who tells
- 20:39everything that happened that night what
- 20:42really happened was that her mom around
- 20:449 30 PM was driving down a very
- 20:46desolated Road there was absolutely
- 20:48nobody close by what I told you there
- 20:51was a river on one side in a Great
- 20:53Meadow like one of those big areas in
- 20:56which there is practically nothing
- 20:58around 10 she suddenly stops in the
- 21:01middle of the road everybody is a little
- 21:03sleepy like they don't know what's
- 21:04happening she steps out tells them she
- 21:06had to take something out from the car
- 21:08trunk and then she opens it that's when
- 21:11she takes their gun and aims at her
- 21:13daughter who was the one in the front
- 21:15seat the other two were obviously in a
- 21:18very nervous State and one of the girls
- 21:20tried to get out she's the one that gets
- 21:23shot twice and then shots her son I
- 21:26think that according to what I
- 21:28understand the order was the daughter in
- 21:31the front who was the one that died the
- 21:33ones in the back first the Sun and
- 21:35lastly the daughter who was the one that
- 21:37revealed what just happened and I know
- 21:39she remembers in that moment how she saw
- 21:41her mother shutting herself in the arm
- 21:44after she turned on the card again rub
- 21:47her arm in a towel and start going
- 21:49forward as I say the woman was indeed
- 21:51driving very slowly they discovered she
- 21:55did that because she basically wanted
- 21:57her kids to die from bloodlust on the
- 22:00way so there wasn't any absolute chance
- 22:03of save them let's say that they
- 22:05basically did some tests on the end and
- 22:08thanks to that they found that she had
- 22:10some early signs of psychosis and what
- 22:12led her to do it basically as I've told
- 22:15you in the moment he was completely
- 22:16obsessed with a man called Robert who
- 22:19had told her that she had kids and for
- 22:22that reason he didn't want to be
- 22:24involved because he never wanted kids
- 22:26this led the woman to a state of
- 22:28craziness in which to say like well
- 22:30what's the easiest thing if he doesn't
- 22:32want kids basically get rid of my own
- 22:34children and then is when she decided
- 22:36and she obviously planted this
- 22:38beforehand to murder them and removed
- 22:41them from her pet to this man obviously
- 22:44many other things proved her guilt how
- 22:47she was changed her versions the way in
- 22:49which she handled the situation there's
- 22:52a very particular interview in which she
- 22:54talks a lot about this in which she say
- 22:56she regret it or that she simply there's
- 22:59a very shocking part in which she says
- 23:01she remembers how the blood flowed from
- 23:03her daughter's mouth and after she says
- 23:05this she Simply Smiles I mean like she
- 23:08laughs and like what a psycho woman I
- 23:10mean it's an absolutely horrific
- 23:12attitude in which she remembers and to
- 23:14start imagining her kids but they're
- 23:16sending a trace of something that really
- 23:18affects her from this situation in this
- 23:21interview it is also very interesting
- 23:23that she talks about the case but she
- 23:25talks she started to talk about the
- 23:27situation or about what she lived in her
- 23:29childhood she begins telling how her
- 23:31father abuse her and everything is
- 23:32centered on her I saw like some analysis
- 23:35and very interesting things and it's
- 23:37like this woman ends up turning the
- 23:39interview in something that only has to
- 23:40do with her namely she doesn't give
- 23:42importance to the kids in that moment
- 23:44which is obviously speaks of a
- 23:47narcissistic and Psychopathic
- 23:48personality obviously after her daughter
- 23:51confess what happened she doesn't have
- 23:53any way of escaping so she's captured as
- 23:56I told you on June 17 of 1984 and her
- 24:00sentence begins thanks to everything
- 24:02that they had the proof besides the
- 24:05blood splatter that didn't match the
- 24:06version it was proven that she herself
- 24:09had fired and that she used her own gun
- 24:12among other things she is sentenced to
- 24:15serve life without the possibility of
- 24:17parole until after 25 years of her
- 24:20sentence among the studies that were
- 24:22done to the woman they discovered a
- 24:25histrionic and narcissist personality
- 24:28and his social disorder and psychopathy
- 24:31she was initially on the stage of Salem
- 24:35she was sentenced there and they gave
- 24:37her life imprisonment in jail called
- 24:39woman's Correctional Center from Oregon
- 24:42however on July 11 of 1987 three years
- 24:46after she's been in that jail she tries
- 24:49to escape by climbing a five matter tall
- 24:51Barber wire she wore special clothes so
- 24:54that didn't hurt her skin or didn't harm
- 24:56herself and the worst is that she'd
- 24:58succeed she indeed skips friction and at
- 25:01that time goes to the house of her
- 25:04salesmaid husband who was the man called
- 25:07Wayne safer she basically made him
- 25:09because of her self-made who told her
- 25:11everything about him and she knew he
- 25:14lived close by so she decided to go to
- 25:17his house and the man don't ask me why
- 25:20surprisingly received her too they say
- 25:22she even had it sexual intercourse with
- 25:24him during her stay in that man house
- 25:27obviously this was a man who in that
- 25:29moment didn't have a very good life he
- 25:31didn't have a job he also was addicted
- 25:34to different kinds of substances and
- 25:37basically live day by day by this time
- 25:39the investigators also began to think
- 25:41where she could be they started to go
- 25:43through the things she had to try to see
- 25:45how she escaped and they found a monk
- 25:47like that a map of the city she had they
- 25:49try to understand where she could have
- 25:51gone I don't know if you know but
- 25:52sometimes one writes on top of the other
- 25:54sheets of paper and leaves a mark on the
- 25:57bottom sheet of what was written on the
- 25:59one on the top so they discovered that
- 26:01was happening so they began scratching
- 26:04it with a pen the possible Clues inside
- 26:06the map and they discovered she had
- 26:09drawn a line to this man house so they
- 26:13say like well we don't know what's there
- 26:15but let's investigate and that's when
- 26:17they finally found Diane who was hiding
- 26:20in that place they say that when they
- 26:22arrived that day she tried to take like
- 26:24a compressed air gun something like that
- 26:26and start threatening them with their
- 26:29committing suicide however thanks to the
- 26:31good work of the police they were able
- 26:32to avoid the situation and make her
- 26:34surrender and they kept her hurt again
- 26:36the man ended up having five years of
- 26:39parole for this situation and she got
- 26:42five years added to her sentence for
- 26:45having escaped however with all this
- 26:47happened and because eventually they
- 26:50didn't trust much in her they decided to
- 26:52move her in 1994 10 years after being
- 26:55convicted to the California Department
- 26:57of Corrections and Rehabilitation in
- 27:002010 she was moved again to the Valley
- 27:03State Prison for a woman also in
- 27:07California they say that during her
- 27:09stayed in prison she obtained a degree
- 27:12in General Studies she supposedly had
- 27:16according to the law of the conditions
- 27:18of her conviction until 2009 to peel her
- 27:22Parole in 2008 she started presenting
- 27:25this appeal however the crazy things was
- 27:28that she continued with the same version
- 27:30all the time she said that she had been
- 27:32attacked that it was a man she never
- 27:34changed her version since then she keeps
- 27:37bleeding completely innocent and since
- 27:39then her parole has been denied they say
- 27:42she presented an appeal again in 2010
- 27:45which was denied and in 2020 she
- 27:47presented another one that was also
- 27:49denied which is great because this woman
- 27:52is really crazy what happened something
- 27:55really interesting happened during her
- 27:58conviction as soon as she is apprehended
- 28:00as you could see in the pictures I kind
- 28:02of escaped this part but I was going to
- 28:04mention it later well basically when she
- 28:06is apprehended and convicted as you
- 28:08could see she was pregnant yes indeed
- 28:11she was pregnant with her fifth child
- 28:13three of them were ones I told you about
- 28:15the ones she tried to murdered the other
- 28:18one was the wall she sold and this last
- 28:21one this baby whose father is unknown
- 28:24the father of this girl who ended up
- 28:26being a girl but almost everyone thought
- 28:28she got pregnant with the goal of making
- 28:30people see her with tenderness and make
- 28:33them be more patient efficient and
- 28:35clearly try to be less harsh with her
- 28:38she even says that on that interview I'm
- 28:41also going to show you that part which
- 28:43is awful and Shameless but she say that
- 28:46she basically misses her kid so much
- 28:48that she's hurting a lot but she says
- 28:50she likes getting pregnant because it's
- 28:51very easy to conceive a child and I
- 28:53think my God this is insane in the end
- 28:56she had The New Daughter however they I
- 28:59don't know how the department in charge
- 29:00of kids is called there however let's
- 29:03say it's Child Services [ __ ] the child
- 29:05away from her and gave her for adoption
- 29:08to a couple who call her Becky they say
- 29:11that Becky always knew she was adopted
- 29:13but her parents never told her who her
- 29:15mother was obviously she as she was
- 29:18growing up started having that interest
- 29:20for knowing who her mother was and I
- 29:22think I understand her it's normal to
- 29:24have curiosity they say that in that
- 29:26moment she tricked The Nanny she had to
- 29:28make her believe she knew who her mother
- 29:30was obtaining her name in that way given
- 29:33that The Nanny Fine finally told her the
- 29:35mother name without knowing she didn't
- 29:36know it when Becky decides to go to a
- 29:39library there found the book written
- 29:41about Diane Downs the book is called a
- 29:43small sacrifices and it was by an author
- 29:46who made her job to write absolutely
- 29:48everything about the case and she founds
- 29:51out who her mom was she says even that
- 29:53she saw a TV special about her mom and
- 29:56that hit her very very hard what
- 29:58happened finding out about this reality
- 30:00made her go to the dark hole of
- 30:02addictions she ended up consuming drugs
- 30:05during a long time and she also got
- 30:07pregnant when she was 17 years old
- 30:09sometime later she had her second son
- 30:12but this time she decided to start
- 30:14changing the perspective she had of her
- 30:16mom so to speak and begin contacting her
- 30:18but that time she also started to
- 30:21realize that Diane had some really
- 30:24serious problems she began talking about
- 30:26conspirences didn't accept what she had
- 30:29done to her brothers told her the most
- 30:32odd and irrational thing things and
- 30:34that's when Becky decided to cut
- 30:36completely the relationship she had with
- 30:38her and never contact her again for that
- 30:41she also decided to get better obviously
- 30:44leave her addictions behind and start
- 30:46talking more about the light about her
- 30:48story here I am showing you the images
- 30:50so you can see her and I'm really glad
- 30:52she really decided to take another path
- 30:55obviously you must be asking yourself
- 30:57like well what happened to the siblings
- 30:59well Christine and Danny who were the
- 31:02ones who survived I feel like this is
- 31:04very nice but they were adopted by the
- 31:06judge that led the case well actually is
- 31:09the persecutor of Diane's case they
- 31:12didn't give them to their father because
- 31:13you can say well they could have given
- 31:15them to him but as you know the father
- 31:17was quite immature he was very
- 31:19responsible and also had many problems
- 31:21so they decided not to give it to him
- 31:23and the prosecutor was the one who
- 31:25decided to adopt him as his children
- 31:27since then they say he has given them a
- 31:29calm and marvelous life in which they
- 31:31don't know anything else about their mom
- 31:33and they can keep working working on
- 31:34their aftermath they say that Dan is
- 31:36still paralyzed but he became an I.T
- 31:38genius that he's living a normal happy
- 31:41and calm life regarding Christine they
- 31:44say she's already married and had a baby
- 31:46she has also been able to regain the
- 31:48ability to talk both have had very
- 31:50private life we don't know how they look
- 31:53how they are what they are up to and I
- 31:55understand them I will also want to
- 31:57forget all the past and that people
- 31:59didn't recognize me because of that and
- 32:01regarding the pop culture there's what
- 32:03I've told you about the small sacrifices
- 32:05book written by Anne rule in 1987 that
- 32:09tells this complete story that even say
- 32:11that there's a movie with the same name
- 32:13sorted by pharah Fawcett which is also
- 32:16revolves around this case to tell you
- 32:18the truth this case is very interesting
- 32:20for me also very sad but I'm very
- 32:23grateful that the kids arrived because
- 32:25if not I don't think they would have
- 32:27caught her that easily but I find it
- 32:29very sad let's say that Destiny or what
- 32:32they had to pay for This Woman's
- 32:33decision a woman who was clearly crazy
- 32:36to ranged something was missing from her
- 32:39mind so she could rationalize better but
- 32:41anyway and and in the end at least there
- 32:44was actually Justice she's still in jail
- 32:46and it's looking very old she's already
- 32:49very age and I really don't think she's
- 32:51going to leave that place alive to be
- 32:53honest well let me know what you think
- 32:56about this case if you like it a lot
- 32:58remember to leave thumbs up comment what
- 33:00you think about the sentence if it was
- 33:02fair or not if I missed something please
