- 0:00No, no, no, this is crazy,
- 0:01I mean the car is taking me away.
- 0:03We don't know what happened!
- 0:04You may be wondering,
- 0:05how did I get here?
- 0:07Well, let's take a look.
- 0:10In this video we are going to be looking for one of the most incredible natural phenomena
- 0:12in the world.
- 0:14But this task is going to be much more difficult than we think.
- 0:17All the roads are blocked, and now I don't know what we are going to do.
- 0:22Since I fell in love with photography when I was very young,
- 0:25there was a kind of image that seemed unreal to me.
- 0:28A kind of line on the night canvas
- 0:31that amazed anyone who saw it.
- 0:33The famous call...
- 0:34Aurora Borealis
- 0:36But there was a specific image
- 0:38that caught my attention.
- 0:40I had to see it with my own eyes.
- 0:42For that we look for a no less impressive country,
- 0:45Iceland,
- 0:47home of contrasts,
- 0:48of ice and fire.
- 0:52The time has come to make it a reality,
- 0:54work hard
- 0:55and travel to fulfill that dream.
- 1:00At our first stop we went to meet Jimmy,
- 1:03a local who knows every part of the island.
- 1:06He recommended that we start the adventure in the north of the country
- 1:09since there was going to be a strong storm
- 1:10that was going to impact the southern area.
- 1:12The idea is to complete a perfect circle
- 1:14to have a better chance of capturing our image.
- 1:18But our adventure was missing only one thing
- 1:21: our four-wheeled house.
- 1:24Prepared with special tires in case of snow,
- 1:26inside a living room
- 1:28with a refrigerator, cooking utensils
- 1:31and a table to transform the space into an office.
- 1:34Plugs to connect our cameras
- 1:36and even heating to spend the night very cozy.
- 1:40Oh, and all of this is also powered by solar panels.
- 1:43An armchair that becomes a bed with extreme ease
- 1:46and last but not least,
- 1:48a navigation system
- 1:49to keep an eye on the weather and the auroras.
- 1:52The truth is that we can't complain
- 1:54- Not bad, eh?
- 1:55- It's good.
- 1:57And so we began our trip around the island,
- 1:59heading north
- 2:00in search of fulfilling that dream.
- 2:07But now we are faced with the challenging task
- 2:09of finding the auroras.
- 2:12There are certain things that have to happen
- 2:14for this phenomenon to occur.
- 2:15There are two types of Aurora,
- 2:17there is the Aurora Borealis
- 2:18like the one we have here in the north in Iceland
- 2:20and there is also the Aurora Austral, which is represented in the south.
- 2:24In Argentina we have it, but it is in Antarctica
- 2:26and it is very difficult to get to.
- 2:27But how is this effect generated, these colors?
- 2:30Well basically when the solar wind comes
- 2:32it comes with electrons and protons
- 2:34and penetrates the magnetic field
- 2:35making these colors shine and
- 2:38dance in an absolutely incredible way.
- 2:40But for Viking culture
- 2:42that means a manifestation of the gods.
- 2:44And yes, personally I think I believe that theory more
- 2:46because it is incredible. Imagine at that time
- 2:49seeing those Wah! colored rays in the sky,
- 2:51it must be crazy.
- 2:52So let's hope we get lucky this trip,
- 2:55which I'm sure will happen,
- 2:56I'm sure.
- 2:57But there are other factors that must also be taken into account.
- 2:59First, there has to be a place without lighting
- 3:01and another thing is that there have to be no clouds.
- 3:03And here we have an application
- 3:04of how the weather changes hour by hour,
- 3:06where it will be,
- 3:07what parts of the island will be clear,
- 3:09which are very covered in clouds,
- 3:11it is very difficult to see them.
- 3:12So in the end
- 3:13it basically becomes a hunt,
- 3:14you have to go see where there is a clear spot
- 3:17and drive there
- 3:18to get a chance to see it.
- 3:21So it's not completely safe,
- 3:23but hey, anything can happen.
- 3:31Iceland is also called
- 3:32"Land of Volcanoes"
- 3:34since it is located between two tectonic plates
- 3:36that separate America from Eurasia.
- 3:39And as it is constantly moving,
- 3:41it becomes a point with the most volcanic activity
- 3:44in the world.
- 3:46Today our chances of seeing auroras are very few
- 3:48due to the completely cloudy sky.
- 3:50Let's hope things improve tomorrow.
- 3:57Well, we just woke up
- 3:58and we were greeted with this incredible surprise
- 4:01that everything is covered in snow.
- 4:03Us trying to escape the southern storm.
- 4:05So well, these are things that happen.
- 4:07It's still beautiful outside,
- 4:08but there is a wind that you can't even get out of.
- 4:10I was checking the weather and the conditions of the route
- 4:14and it seems that the northern route is closed.
- 4:17Everything that is red there says that there is a lot of ice
- 4:19and that you cannot pass through.
- 4:21So well, we are left here half stranded.
- 4:23It wasn't the idea.
- 4:24So in a little while we're going to wash our things,
- 4:26prepare breakfast and continue on our trip.
- 4:29The wind is quite strong,
- 4:31but we made the decision to continue forward.
- 4:34Well, we have already started the route
- 4:35but as you can see,
- 4:36there is snow in front,
- 4:38there is a lot of wind,
- 4:39we are going to go very calmly,
- 4:40because it is quite slippery.
- 4:42You have to have a lot of respect for nature here,
- 4:44let's hope we get there now.
- 4:47Oh Lord!
- 4:48I mean, there is so much wind that I can't even open
- 4:52the door.
- 4:53I'm afraid it will blow me away.
- 4:55Oh, no!
- 4:56And the truth is that things didn't look any better.
- 4:59There are more than 70 kilometers of wind.
- 5:02Oops!
- 5:10Well, we had to stop here about in the middle of the road,
- 5:13a car just passed and took another one
- 5:15that was ahead with a tow truck,
- 5:17we don't know what happened.
- 5:18I mean, there are some snowflakes
- 5:20that the truth is, I don't know if they are snowflakes
- 5:22or if they are completely like ice.
- 5:24Imagine that now it is between 70 and 100 km per hour of wind,
- 5:29which is why it is very dangerous.
- 5:31I mean, there really are many things
- 5:32that can be turned around.
- 5:33We just met two Spaniards
- 5:34who told us that they saw a container
- 5:36passing in front of them,
- 5:37so it's quite dangerous,
- 5:38which is why the weather is taken quite seriously here.
- 5:41It all depends on the weather.
- 5:42We check hour by hour to see how it's going,
- 5:44that's why we made the decision to continue, but...
- 5:46I mean, we didn't know, we didn't think
- 5:48that this was going to happen, really.
- 5:50- Untrue?
- 5:50- Yeah.
- 5:52Although the wind and snow did not stop,
- 5:54we could not stop enjoying
- 5:55the white landscape
- 5:56that we had in this northern part of Iceland.
- 6:00Crazy!
- 6:19Well people, we have good news and bad news.
- 6:22The good news is that there is no more wind,
- 6:24there is not so much storm,
- 6:26it has cleared up a bit and there is a good forecast for today.
- 6:29The bad news is that it's still snowing,
- 6:31so I don't think we'll have any aurora.
- 6:34So we're going to have to continue east
- 6:36to see what we find.
- 6:38It's snowing heavily.
- 6:39But don't get me wrong,
- 6:40I mean, I love snow,
- 6:41but right now
- 6:43when we have to drive
- 6:45and everything is frozen,
- 6:46it makes things much more complicated.
- 6:48But we have faith that this evening
- 6:50it will clear completely
- 6:53and we will be able to see the auroras.
- 6:56Well,
- 6:56we have just arrived at the famous Goðafoss
- 6:59but it has to do with the fact that it is covered in snow,
- 7:01I never thought I would see it like this.
- 7:05Goðafoss is one of the
- 7:07most culturally significant waterfalls in Iceland.
- 7:10Its meaning
- 7:11"Waterfall of the Gods"
- 7:14Well, we got back into the car.
- 7:16It's snowing a lot.
- 7:18I mean, there's a tremendous storm.
- 7:20Which is quite annoying
- 7:21because nothing can be done
- 7:22everywhere we go.
- 7:24It's snowing a lot.
- 7:25We don't know what to do, the truth
- 7:26is...
- 7:29Let's see what happens,
- 7:30the roads are still blocked.
- 7:32You can't move forward.
- 7:33So you have to be patient.
- 7:35At these times you have to be patient.
- 7:46The storm didn't let us see anything.
- 7:48So we decided to go into this service station
- 7:50to get some shelter from the wind
- 7:52and reassess the situation.
- 7:56With these conditions
- 7:57it was very difficult to continue with our trip.
- 7:59There were cars completely covered in snow
- 8:01and we had to make a decision.
- 8:05Well, change of plans.
- 8:06As you saw,
- 8:07this is what it looks like outside.
- 8:08There is no time when you can go outside,
- 8:11do something.
- 8:12We had a lot of things to do.
- 8:13Places to visit and more here in the north.
- 8:15But it seems like it's not going to happen.
- 8:17So let's head south,
- 8:19southeast.
- 8:20Let's see what the weather is like there
- 8:21and try to look for the aurora tonight.
- 8:23I hope it improves,
- 8:24because there are many, many clouds.
- 8:27All the landscape we see is white.
- 8:29We drove about four hours
- 8:31east of the country so we could recharge
- 8:33and look for some food.
- 8:34However, we continued a little further
- 8:36thinking it was going to be clear.
- 8:38But the route did not reveal anything.
- 8:40It was completely dangerous.
- 8:42- It's crazy how much snow there is,
- 8:44you can't see anything at all.
- 8:51Well,
- 8:51we moved about half an hour
- 8:54to a new place
- 8:55to find a clear sky.
- 8:57According to the forecast, it was going to be clear
- 9:00and it's not getting very foggy either.
- 9:02It's going to be a long night,
- 9:03we're going to stay here
- 9:04and we hope that
- 9:05they will show up today.
- 9:07We're cooking something
- 9:08and we're going to see what happens.
- 9:09There is quite a bit of wind.
- 9:10It's a little scary,
- 9:11but everything will be fine.
- 9:13I hope so.
- 9:14Oh no, because I'm already sad.
- 9:16I'm sad to see nothing.
- 9:19But that's nature,
- 9:20that's mother earth.
- 9:22So you have to understand.
- 9:27Well yesterday we were ringing bells
- 9:29until four in the morning
- 9:31and nothing happened.
- 9:31So as a reward we have this breakfast.
- 9:34We have granola with protein here.
- 9:36Greek yogurt, strawberry, blueberries.
- 9:39Let's make coffee with milk.
- 9:41- That's lovely.
- 9:41- Yes, very delicious
- 9:42- Colombian coffee.
- 9:45This day gave us hope,
- 9:47to see and enjoy a different Iceland.
- 9:50Well,
- 9:51we are passing through the East Fjords
- 9:53and I can't stop thinking about Walter Mitty's little towns,
- 9:56which are just like these.
- 9:58Wow!
- 9:59what tranquility.
- 10:02Oh, how nice a little coffee would be this time.
- 10:05While we delight
- 10:06in this landscape,
- 10:07we were looking for the music for this video
- 10:09with today's sponsor,
- 10:10which is "Arlist."
- 10:11Arlist seems to me to be a perfect platform
- 10:13for all creators who are looking for
- 10:15different types of tools.
- 10:17The music I use in my videos
- 10:18is licensed so I can use it for my projects,
- 10:20on networks or for clients.
- 10:22Likewise,
- 10:23if I have to use stock images
- 10:24that I couldn't record on this trip,
- 10:26Arlist has it all.
- 10:27And something I prioritize a lot
- 10:29as a creator is optimization.
- 10:30And finding all this kind of stuff in one place is
- 10:33really priceless
- 10:34and makes me spend more time filming
- 10:36and less time editing.
- 10:38Likewise,
- 10:38the sound effects that I use to give life to my videos
- 10:41come from the same platform.
- 10:46The truth is that it is a package
- 10:47that every creator needs in their arsenal.
- 10:50Arlist
- 10:51has all kinds of subscriptions
- 10:52for people who want to make videos for social media,
- 10:55as well as for clients, whatever.
- 10:57Subscribe with the link
- 10:58I leave below and you have two extra months free.
- 11:01So thank you very much Arlist for sponsoring this video
- 11:04and we continue with the trip,
- 11:06now we are cooking.
- 11:07Following the eastern route
- 11:08we find one of the most famous beaches
- 11:11that you see on Instagram and so on.
- 11:12It is a black sand beach.
- 11:14Look what this is, we are walking here.
- 11:17One thing must be said is that Nati is having a very bad time because of the cold.
- 11:21It was cold, yes,
- 11:22but she is suffering especially.
- 11:24I mean, it was cold
- 11:25and we mean minus 11 degrees.
- 11:27Yeah, it's not like it looks dramatic, no.
- 11:29Something that caught my attention
- 11:31is that at 1:30 p.m.
- 11:34it looks like it's sunset.
- 11:35In other words, it's not that you go out and have less hours of light,
- 11:38but that the hours of light you have
- 11:40are like a kind of golden hour,
- 11:41like in the morning or in the evening.
- 11:43Which makes it quite special.
- 11:44Look at the joy we have.
- 11:46Who do we come across?
- 11:47Expensive!
- 11:48What a thrill!
- 11:51How do you say, záparo?
- 11:52- Set sail
- 11:53- Ah set sail, haha.
- 11:54Welcome to Stokksnes, in the south of Iceland.
- 11:57Wow!
- 12:02We have southern time all to ourselves in this place.
- 12:06How beautiful Iceland is.
- 12:07Now it is showing us another side,
- 12:08perhaps without so much storm, more calm.
- 12:13What beautiful days are coming!
- 12:38Today's morning is going to be very special.
- 12:40We are about to enter
- 12:42the largest glacier in Europe.
- 12:45Imagine how similar this place is to the moon
- 12:48; on the first expedition to the moon,
- 12:50the United States came to train here for 3 months.
- 12:53And all the training about the equipment,
- 12:55everything was done in this same place.
- 12:57This place in the past was an oasis,
- 12:59which was quite good
- 13:01for agriculture.
- 13:02A lot of corn was harvested.
- 13:04But what the residents who were here did not know
- 13:07is that there was a very large volcano next door.
- 13:10And at one point it exploded, it was something similar to Pompeii.
- 13:13And he left this sea of stones and ice.
- 13:17There the icebergs formed,
- 13:19the glaciers formed and they left us all this.
- 13:23I am putting on the crampons
- 13:25that are necessary to be able to walk on the ice.
- 13:28It was blowing all the volcanic ash
- 13:30onto the ice,
- 13:31that's why it has that dark appearance,
- 13:34it will wash away with the rain.
- 13:36There are certain parts that are very transparent
- 13:38and I can see all the ice below.
- 13:40My mouth is already freezing.
- 13:42Look what this cave is.
- 13:44You have to go down step by step
- 13:45because it is very slippery.
- 13:48-What is your name?
- 13:49-Natalia
- 13:50-Natalia, be careful eh
- 13:51-Yes
- 13:51-Don't run.
- 13:53We are in the "Blue Diamond"
- 13:55a glacial cavern cave
- 13:56here in Vatnajökull,
- 13:57Europe's largest glacier.
- 13:59Wow, there are some kind of waterfalls inside the glacier.
- 14:03But this is a completely different landscape,
- 14:05it's like out of this world.
- 14:08That thing above that you can see is blue, that
- 14:10is, it is not the color of the ice,
- 14:11but rather it is the reflection of the sky
- 14:13because basically this is
- 14:1596% water 4% oxygen , so that is why that color that is
- 14:19so characteristic of the glacier
- 14:21is generated. It's blue,
- 14:23but it looks incredible from down here,
- 14:25crazy.
- 14:29And for people who like the movies
- 14:31here where they film the "Interstellar" scene
- 14:33when the spaceship arrives
- 14:34and the whole place is as if it were ice,
- 14:37it is exactly in this same place.
- 14:39The experience was
- 14:40very very good.
- 14:41I mean, I think it's something you have to do once in your life.
- 14:44If you can and if you have the opportunity,
- 14:46choose to go at a time very early in the morning
- 14:49where there are not so many tourists,
- 14:50because the truth is that personally
- 14:52it becomes less special,
- 14:53but that cave is incredible.
- 14:58Our trip is coming to an end and the weather didn't let us do anything.
- 15:01Also the cloud forecast for the south of the island
- 15:03It is not favorable.
- 15:04So being locked up there
- 15:06is frustrating.
- 15:14Well, now we are on the famous black sand beach,
- 15:17as some call it:
- 15:18"The beach that swallows people."
- 15:20Because it is quite violent
- 15:21, that is, there are people who come close to watch when it arrives
- 15:24and the tide rises and sometimes carries them away.
- 15:27It's good to stay there watching people being eaten
- 15:29but be careful because it's dangerous.
- 15:30That is, if they come here.
- 15:32All you see here are basalt stones
- 15:35that a long time ago, as I had told you before,
- 15:36were volcanoes.
- 15:38In other words, when there was this explosion,
- 15:39all these stones were generated in the shape of arrows,
- 15:42which makes it very interesting, which is why this beach is so famous.
- 15:45-Are you going to take a tourist photo?
- 15:47-Yes even in the basalt.
- 15:52And so came our last day of the trip.
- 15:55The hopes and chances were very low.
- 15:58However,
- 15:59the landscapes overwhelmed us with so much beauty.
- 16:02But the truth is we are returning home
- 16:04with a bitter taste as if something was missing.
- 16:08Well I have to be completely honest.
- 16:10I can't believe it.
- 16:11In other words, we came from the north
- 16:13with all that storm,
- 16:14that snow and now the south is storming too.
- 16:17Of rain.
- 16:18Rain!
- 16:19Well maybe Gastón had already told me
- 16:21that the plans depend on what nature wants.
- 16:24And here we are confirming it
- 16:26so we have to adapt to what is happening.
- 16:29You have to adapt to the climates,
- 16:30to the rain, to the snow.
- 16:31Looking for auroras to see if one day we can see them,
- 16:34but there are too many clouds.
- 16:35Last night I received a notification
- 16:38from an application to search for auroras
- 16:40that said that "if the sky has cleared"
- 16:42we could see them within the next hour.
- 16:45We played our last card
- 16:46with a minute point
- 16:48that could be seen through the clouds.
- 16:54There is something forming in the sky
- 16:56and it is not a cloud.
- 16:57What is that?
- 16:59What is that?
- 17:02And although that seemed like an illusion,
- 17:04I could call it a miracle.
- 17:13Here they are, here we are seeing it.
- 17:15The Northern Lights are dancing live.
- 17:19Wow!
- 17:29I will never erase
- 17:31that image of the Auroras,
- 17:32dancing above me
- 17:33in my life.
- 17:38Life is sometimes like a river
- 17:40that flows through the landscape
- 17:41of our experiences.
- 17:43Sometimes we struggle to control every curve
- 17:46and turn of our lives.
- 17:47And the flow of life, like water,
- 17:49we cannot try to cover it with our hands.
- 17:52It is an effort that is beyond our control.
- 17:55Letting go
- 17:56doesn't mean completely giving up control.
- 17:59If the best thing is to adapt
- 18:00and learn to flow with the challenges
- 18:02and changes that life presents to us.
- 18:06Although the trip was not perfect,
- 18:08nature taught me another lesson
- 18:10and showed me a different but also beautiful side of Iceland.
- 18:14The good thing is that I plan to return
- 18:16but with you.
- 18:17I'm planning a group trip
- 18:18to film together and teach you what I know about filmmaking.
- 18:22Fill out the form in the description
- 18:23and see you on the next adventure.
- 18:26Thank you so much!
