- 0:10I haven't had time to actually think
- 0:11about what it is to be free, what it
- 0:13means to be free, what it is to have
- 0:15this life back.
- 0:17[Applause]
- 0:22I get out and it's such a different
- 0:24world. There's so much more going on.
- 0:26I'm ready for anything really. I kind of
- 0:28want some Dairy Queen.
- 0:34All right, please.
- 0:40I'm Erin Morardi. I've been following
- 0:43the case of Ryan Ferguson since 2005
- 0:47when he went on trial for the murder of
- 0:49newspaper sports editor Kent Heightold.
- 0:52From the beginning, there was just
- 0:54something not right about this case.
- 1:01There is no physical evidence whatsoever
- 1:03to connect Ryan to the crime scene.
- 1:06[Music]
- 1:08Recording this will be Detective
- 1:10Strower.
- 1:13A lot of it's kind of foggy, kind of
- 1:15fuzzy to you as to what you remember.
- 1:19Your honor, the state calls Charles
- 1:22Ericson. I looked up
- 1:25and Ryan was over the victim. He had his
- 1:29foot on his back and he was pulling up
- 1:30on the belt.
- 1:33The reality is that he chose to lie
- 1:36about me.
- 1:38Asked to count one guilty of murder in
- 1:40the second degree.
- 1:44It just sucked the air right out of us.
- 1:48We were absolutely devastated.
- 1:54Love you.
- 1:56Ryan Ferguson never should have been
- 1:58tried for this murder.
- 2:00[Music]
- 2:02This case is full of holes. It's just
- 2:05full of holes. Ryan Ferguson is actually
- 2:09innocent.
- 2:11I think I saw Ryan. It is. Oh my god. I
- 2:14It's there. Oh my gosh. Look at
- 2:18You cannot get better than that.
- 2:22Oh my god.
- 2:25[Applause]
- 2:31I think I've proven my innocence. I
- 2:32think most people in the world in the
- 2:34whole world can see that.
- 2:39End of story. Not yet. Not for Ryan
- 2:43Ferguson. It's very daunting. You don't
- 2:45know what you're doing in this world and
- 2:47you don't know how to navigate it and
- 2:48operate in it. and not for his accuser.
- 2:52It was really easy for the police and
- 2:55the prosecutors to manipulate me. I'm
- 2:58angry. I'm angry at myself. I feel like
- 3:02I've been played for a fool and I feel
- 3:04like I should be released from prison. I
- 3:06know that Charles Ericson is absolutely
- 3:09innocent. When you've got innocent
- 3:11people locked up, you've got the
- 3:13murderer still on the street.
- 3:15They need to find the real killer.
