- 0:13Hello everyone. Welcome back to English
- 0:17Learners Podcast where we learn slow
- 0:21English the easy way. My name is Lily
- 0:26and welcome to this brand new series on
- 0:29shadowing English speaking practice for
- 0:33beginners A1 and A2 level. We are so
- 0:38excited to start this journey with you.
- 0:42I speak slowly and clearly so you can
- 0:46follow along naturally and learn
- 0:50effortlessly.
- 0:52And if you don't know me yet, I'm from
- 0:55New York, but now I live in London with
- 0:58my family. I love teaching English and
- 1:02helping people speak with confidence.
- 1:05So, let me tell you a little bit about
- 1:09me and my life here in beautiful
- 1:12Britain. H, where do I begin? Oh, wait.
- 1:17Before I start, tell me in the comments
- 1:20where are you listening from? Colombia,
- 1:23Brazil, Peru, Germany, Thailand. This is
- 1:29our friendly global community of English
- 1:32listeners.
- 1:34All right, back to our discussion. So,
- 1:38you might wonder, what is life in London
- 1:42really like? Well, it's busy. It's
- 1:47beautiful and oh my goodness, it's full
- 1:51of amazing food. [laughter]
- 1:55Every morning I start my day with a cup
- 1:58of tea. Yes, tea, not coffee anymore.
- 2:03It's kind of the British thing to do.
- 2:06Sometimes I grab a warm croissant from
- 2:09the little bakery near my house. Ooh, it
- 2:13smells like heaven. Sweet, buttery,
- 2:16delicious.
- 2:18You might ask, Lily, don't you miss New
- 2:21York bagels? Well, maybe a little, but I
- 2:26think British cakes make up for it.
- 2:29[laughter]
- 2:30On weekends, my family and I like to
- 2:34visit local markets. We walk through
- 2:37tiny streets, try new foods, and
- 2:41sometimes stop by the park for a picnic.
- 2:44It's cozy, calm, and full of charm. And
- 2:49you know what I love most? The people
- 2:52here. Wow, they're so polite. Always
- 2:56saying sorry and lovely. Even the
- 3:00weather is polite. Soft rain, quiet
- 3:04clouds, gentle sunshine.
- 3:08Sometimes I walk by the river temps. The
- 3:11water is calm. The city lights sparkle
- 3:15and I think, "Wow, life really can
- 3:19change in the best ways." Now, you might
- 3:23be wondering, "Wait, Lily, why do you
- 3:26have an American accent if you live in
- 3:28Britain?" Well, because I'm American.
- 3:31That's my natural accent. But I love the
- 3:34British accent, too. It's so elegant and
- 3:37musical. Musical. Which one do you
- 3:40prefer, American or British? There's no
- 3:44right answer. All accents are beautiful.
- 3:47It's just a matter of personal
- 3:49preference. And speaking of accents,
- 3:51let's bring in someone very special.
- 3:54She's calm, kind, and has the sweetest
- 3:57British voice ever. Please welcome my
- 4:00lovely friend, Tara. Thank you, Lily.
- 4:04Wow. I didn't know you love British
- 4:07cakes so much. You talked about them in
- 4:09our previous episode, too. Yes, we do
- 4:12love our cakes and the sweets and the
- 4:16biscuits and oh dear, the list goes on.
- 4:20But oh, sorry, I almost forgot. We're
- 4:24here on our English learners podcast.
- 4:27Hello. Hello everyone. I'm Tara and yes,
- 4:31I'm the British accent in the room. Lily
- 4:34and I created this series because we
- 4:36wanted to help you speak English with
- 4:38confidence, without fear, and without
- 4:41worrying about being perfect. We both
- 4:44know how hard it can feel to speak out
- 4:46loud in another language. But here's the
- 4:48secret. The more you shadow, the more
- 4:51natural your English will sound.
- 4:53Shadowing means listening and repeating.
- 4:56Just like singing along to your favorite
- 4:58song, you learn the rhythm, the sound,
- 5:01and the feeling of English. That's why
- 5:04we're here to guide you step by step in
- 5:07a calm, relaxed, and friendly way. So,
- 5:11are you ready? Because Lily's about to
- 5:13start the fun part, your speaking
- 5:15practice. Over to you, Lily. Wow, Terra,
- 5:19you always bring that beautiful balance
- 5:22back to everything. I love how you make
- 5:24difficult things sound so simple and in
- 5:27such kind, gentle words. Thank you,
- 5:30Tara. All right, everyone. Now you're
- 5:33back with me and guess what? It's your
- 5:36turn to speak. We'll begin with short,
- 5:38easy sentences, nice and slow, so you
- 5:41can follow along naturally. Then as we
- 5:44pick up momentum, we'll move to slightly
- 5:46more challenging sentences. Just a tiny
- 5:48notch up, okay? Don't worry, I'm right
- 5:51here with you. Don't be shy to speak.
- 5:53And yes, definitely don't be afraid to
- 5:56make mistakes. Remember, this is your
- 5:58safe space to learn and grow. Just
- 6:01listen first, then repeat after me.
- 6:04[snorts] Take a deep breath. Inhale
- 6:08and let go. [sighs and gasps]
- 6:12Beautiful. That feels good. Now, let's
- 6:16begin our shadowing practice together.
