- 3:28Nation.
- 3:28Nation.
- 3:30After the dissolution of the promise, on April 29,
- 3:351945, the BPUPKI was formed, which was acknowledged by Dr. Radjiman
- 3:42Widyodiningrat and his deputies, Ichi Bangase and Suroso.
- 3:46On May 29th, the first session was held
- 3:50at the suggestion of Dr. Radjiman Widyodiningrat to
- 3:53discuss the foundation of the state.
- 3:56Peace be upon you and
- 3:59Allah SWT. May Allah bless you and grant you peace.
- 4:02First of all, let us praise and give thanks
- 4:05for the presence of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala because
- 4:08we can gather here.
- 4:10In good health and safety.
- 4:13Fellow countrymen and women.
- 4:16The Indonesian nation will face a new nation.
- 4:20A nation that will shake the world, therefore in
- 4:24this session we will discuss the foundation of the state, Indonesia as the foundation of the
- 4:28future Indonesian nation.
- 4:31I, Dr. Radjiman, hereby declare the session
- 4:36open.
- 4:43You are asked to participate in giving your opinions or
- 4:48having good suggestions to welcome the independence
- 4:52of this country by submitting proposals regarding
- 4:55the foundation of the state.
- 4:56Please, my brothers and sisters, I invite you.
- 5:01I have a suggestion, Indonesia is a country
- 5:04rich in traditions and culture.
- 5:06The history of Indonesia shows that Indonesia is a very large country.
- 5:11Therefore, if we are united, we need a state foundation
- 5:14that accommodates all parties and the entire nation.
- 5:17Thank you.
- 5:18I agree with Bung Soebarjo's opinion.
- 5:22We, the Indonesian nation, will need an ideology that
- 5:27can unite all parties.
- 5:29Thank you.
- 5:31On the first day, May 29, 1945, Mohammad
- 5:37Yamin issued his opinion regarding the state foundation.
- 5:40Alright, ladies and gentlemen.
- 5:43I have heard the proposals that have been put forward
- 5:46and I have summarized them.
- 5:48In my opinion, the state foundation is formulated in the form of five
- 5:52points which I call the foundation and principles of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)
- 5:55. These include:
- 5:56First, nationality.
- 5:59Second, humanity.
- 6:00Third, divinity.
- 6:02Fourth, democracy.
- 6:05Fifth, the welfare of the people.
- 6:07Bung Yamin, I acknowledge.
- 6:10I appreciate your words.
- 6:11Extraordinary.
- 6:12But remember, Indonesia is a country with a Muslim majority.
- 6:16Therefore, Indonesia must be based on Islam.
- 6:20Didn't you hear what we just said?
- 6:22We need a national foundation.
- 6:25It's not just your interests that are needed.
- 6:27I agree with Bung Yamin's proposal.
- 6:30In my opinion, his idea is clear because it contains
- 6:35elements of divinity that Indonesia can accept.
- 6:39Because Indonesia is so diverse.
- 6:41How is this?
- 6:44Calm down, ladies and gentlemen.
- 6:45If the session continues like this, we won't find
- 6:49the foundation of the state.
- 6:50So, I'm adjourning today's session and will
- 6:54continue tomorrow.
- 6:57On the second day, May 31, 1945, Prof.
- 7:03Dr. Soepomo formulated the draft.
- 7:18Good morning, meeting participants.
- 7:22Here, we will discuss the foundation
- 7:25of the state again.
- 7:26Because we couldn't get the results yesterday
- 7:29, the report on yesterday's results will be delivered
- 7:33by Panji Suroso.
- 7:35Ladies and gentlemen, at the meeting the other day, we
- 7:39obtained the foundation of the state as proposed by Bung Yamin.
- 7:44However, we still haven't agreed to discuss
- 7:48the points based on divinity
- 7:52. Okay, have you all found a
- 7:57good foundation for the state?
- 7:59I think there's no point
- 8:03in arguing about religion any longer.
- 8:05All religions and beliefs point to one
- 8:09God, the Almighty.
- 8:12Therefore, there are still many important and
- 8:16urgent issues we need to discuss.
- 8:18But, you know, Indonesia has a Muslim majority.
- 8:22I disagree.
- 8:24If you still think like that, why
- 8:26don't you hold your own meeting?
- 8:28To create a nation, we won't prioritize
- 8:33our egos.
- 8:34It's better for you to leave.
- 8:35Relax, folks, I will present my opinion regarding
- 8:39the foundation of the state as follows:
- 8:41first, unity; second, family; third, balance between the physical
- 8:47and spiritual; fourth, deliberation; and fifth, social justice.
- 8:52Thank you for your suggestions, everyone.
- 8:57Are there any other opinions?
- 9:01If not, today's session is closed and will
- 9:05continue on the third day.
- 9:18The BPUPKI session continued on the third day
- 9:22, June 1, 1945.
- 9:26Sukarno issued a statement.
- 9:28Brothers and sisters, we have all gathered for three days,
- 9:33discussing what we should discuss.
- 9:36We have not yet produced a foundation for the Indonesian state. Each group
- 9:41is stuck in its own group and interests.
- 9:45I will propose a formulation for the foundation of the state, which I
- 9:49have named Pancasila, which contains:
- 9:53One, Indonesian nationality.
- 9:56Two, internationalism, or humanity.
- 9:59Three, consensus or democracy.
- 10:02Fourth, social welfare.
- 10:06Five, belief in the one and only God.
- 10:08To summarize all of this, we must have humanity.
- 10:12That is, God, but not a God based only
- 10:17on one religion.
- 10:20It is universal and acceptable to all groups.
- 10:26Society, all people who believe in each other.
- 10:33I have named that religion, Pancasila, and
- 10:37we can all overcome challenges as an independent nation.
- 10:43Independence!
- 10:45Independence!
- 10:49Wait a minute, what was our discussion yesterday about the
- 10:53foundation of the state, must be based on Islam.
- 10:55How may I express my opinion, please, Bung Karno.
- 11:00How about if we use this break to
- 11:04form a body to produce a state foundation?
- 11:08Let's put it this way, since we haven't been able to get a
- 11:11state foundation, how about we form a small committee to resolve
- 11:16this issue?
- 11:17The small committee that was formed was the
- 11:21Constitution Drafting Committee with Ir. Sukarno as chairman.
- 11:24The Economic and Financial Committee with Drs.
- 11:28Mohammad Hatta and Abikusno Tjokrosujoso as chairmen.
- 11:32At this session, the Jakarta Charter was also read out from
- 11:35the work of the nine committees.
- 11:37The BUBKI II session was held from July 10 to 14,
- 11:431945.
- 11:45What about the results of yesterday's meeting?
- 11:49Please feel free to convey Soepomo.
- 11:51Thank you.
- 11:53I will convey the results of the session that we have
- 11:55held.
- 11:57That in fact, independence is the right of all nations.
- 12:01And therefore, colonialism in
- 12:04the world must be abolished.
- 12:06Because it is not in accordance with humanity and justice.
- 12:10And the struggle for Indonesian independence has reached
- 12:15a happy moment.
- 12:17With peace and prosperity, the Indonesian people proclaim their future in
- 12:21the name of the nation of Indonesia.
- 12:23Free, united, sovereign, just, and prosperous.
- 12:28By the grace of Almighty God, and
- 12:31driven by the noble desire to live a free national life
- 12:35, the Indonesian people hereby declare their independence.
- 12:41Therefore, to form a government of the
- 12:45Indonesian state that protects the entire Indonesian nation and all of
- 12:51Indonesia's territory, to advance the general welfare.
- 12:56To educate the nation's life, to participate in establishing world order based on
- 13:01freedom, eternal peace, and social justice.
- 13:05Therefore, the independence of the Indonesian nation is formulated in
- 13:10the structure of a sovereign Republic of Indonesia
- 13:16based on one Godhead with the obligation to implement Islamic law
- 13:22for its adherents.
- 13:25Two, the foundation of just and civilized humanity.
- 13:30Three, the unity of Indonesia.
- 13:33Four, Democracy guided by the wisdom of
- 13:38deliberation and representation.
- 13:41Five, social justice for all the people of Indonesia.
- 13:46With the unanimous vote of the other members, we approve
- 13:50the contents of the preamble to the Constitution.
- 13:52As a small committee, we will further refine the draft
- 13:56constitution.
- 13:58I, as the committee chair,
- 14:00will report on the committee's work.
- 14:02Namely, one, the Declaration of Indonesian Independence.
- 14:06Two, the preamble to the constitution.
- 14:08Three, the body of the constitution.
- 14:12The formulation that has been ratified will later be known as the
- 14:151945 Constitution
- 14:17. The contents of the 1945 Constitution are as
- 14:21follows:
- 14:22One, the territory of the Republic of Indonesia and the Dutch East Indies, formerly
- 14:28added to Malaya, North Borneo, East Papua, Portugal, and
- 14:35the surrounding islands.
- 14:36Two, the form of our state, a unitary state.
- 14:39Three, the form of our union, a republic.
- 14:42Four, our national flag, the red and white flag.
- 14:45Five, our national language, Indonesian.
- 14:49So, the conclusion of our session this time is the form of
- 14:52the Indonesian state.
- 14:54Namely, a republic and the territory of Indonesia, namely, the entire island of
- 14:58Indonesia.
- 15:01With the success of the constitution drafting committee in
- 15:05drafting the constitution, the task of the BPUPKI
- 15:08is declared complete and disbanded.
