- 0:01the Siberian
- 0:05tiger it stretches nearly 10 ft
- 0:08long and weighs up to 700
- 0:12lb making it the largest cat on the
- 0:17planet less than 500 Siberian tigers
- 0:21live in the
- 0:22wild approximately 400 of these stalk
- 0:26Russia's Birch
- 0:27forests the rest are dispers first
- 0:30throughout Eastern China and North
- 0:35Korea the Siberian inhabits a domain
- 0:39much colder than other tiger
- 0:43habitats here temperatures can plunge to
- 0:45minus 40°
- 0:49F but the Siberian has developed
- 0:52remarkable adaptations for survival year
- 0:57round large paws prevent the cat from
- 1:00sinking in the
- 1:05snow in warmer months widely spaced
- 1:08Stripes camouflage the Tiger in its

- 1:27and chest help keep the tiger out of
- 1:29sight
- 1:30night and keep it
- 1:33warm it's longer and thicker than fur of
- 1:36warmer weathered Tigers such as the
- 1:38Sumatran and the
- 1:41bangle all these assets prove invaluable
- 1:45for a cat that spends almost 8 months in
- 1:48the
- 1:52snow coat adaptations conceal the tiger
- 1:56as it stalks prey
- 2:01it moves in silently from the side or
- 2:07rear strong hind legs launch the cat up
- 2:11to 20 ft in one Leap directly on top of
- 2:14its
- 2:17prey Siberians hunt day and
- 2:22night although not truly nocturnal this
- 2:25cat is more alert and active at
- 2:28night it's equipped with a special
- 2:31reflecting layer in its eye called the
- 2:33tapam
- 2:35lucum located behind the retina this
- 2:38film increases incoming light making
- 2:41objects appear
- 2:42brighter giving Tiger's night vision six
- 2:46times better than the humans and
- 2:48allowing it to Ambush
- 2:50prey even at

- 4:41risk when we move deeper into this great
- 4:43predator's domain we increase our
- 4:46chances for a deadly encounter
