0:26International attention three weeks
0:28later Thanksgiving morning she was found
0:31on a highway seen here Bound in Chains
0:33her breathless cries for help captured
0:36in 9-1-1 call incredibly long road
0:39but some stuff's come up so over
0:43we've always had the DNA out there in
0:46the world sorry to come before you too
0:48far obviously just like always

1:02want is truthful statements because it's
1:04a crime to lie to Federal officers oh

1:12um so there's always been DNA out there
1:14and we've we've done testing after
1:17testing we've gone out to like the
1:20parabon which is a private company who
1:22does all my cool the genetics and we've
1:25just hit wall after wall after wall but
1:28recently we found some a familiar DNA
1:31hit so what that does it just tells us
1:34it came from a certain person so like
1:37the mother or the father or a son or an
1:40uncle or however that is it just hits
1:42that like somewhere in this family tree
1:44is where the DNA comes from okay so with
1:47that we open up the investigation we go
1:50into who could it be
1:53within the family
1:55um so once we started opening up those
1:58doors and looking through those the
2:00family members and just trying to see
2:01Facebook stocking them criminal
2:04histories just that normal investigation
2:07how we do once we start looking into
2:09things we started finding some
2:11interesting things okay so one of the
2:14things that came out to us
2:16go on if you is there anything in there
2:18that looks of Interest or notable
2:21interest or
2:25and that's an awkward photo
2:28now
2:35so the table the picture's a little
2:37drained out so there's I mean
2:40to me I see a
2:42table there that somewhat looks like
2:44something you described to be in the
2:45past and then I said wood paneling
2:48I'm talking about the room
2:50yeah we know that both of those things
2:51back in August in 2017 is when we spoke
2:55with you about and you showed us this
2:57picture of the table do you remember
2:59that Sherry yes do and so when we were
3:03trolling through this you know Facebook
3:04page we saw just the edge of that table
3:07Yeah Denise card in fact oh cool hey
3:10Peter look at this look at this table I
3:13was like oh wait you're right yeah and
3:15it has the wood paneling so like well
3:18where was that photo taken right and so
3:20we're trying to figure that out
3:22so oh okay uh so let's let us obviously
3:25now bound to the obviously this Facebook
3:29page has a person that's got like people
3:31tagged into it so it has uh the theater
3:34has a but that's still like that's still
3:37a valid memory right but this was the
3:39table Yeah a table like this was the
3:42table you were on when you were branded
3:43and we've been talking about that a lot
3:45because so many memories are so creative
3:48now it's been a long time it's been a
3:50really long time so like
3:52details and things like that we did the
3:55best that we could to take notes on it
3:57and all of that but a lot of it's really
4:00hard it's hard to think about
4:04it yeah now I see both those from what
4:08she told me okay
4:11that was an interesting with that we
4:12started looking at different people and
4:14who might be involved and just trying to
4:16figure it out
4:17and I wanted to show you this picture
4:20and obviously
4:23um
4:24people can change their weight people
4:26can change the color of their hair don't
4:30just because the photo might be a little
4:33bit different as you know women like to
4:34change their hair and
4:37their makeup their their weight can
4:39change so that that might be a little
4:40bit different but we wanted to take a
4:42look at this uh six pack and see if you
4:43recognize anybody see these six photos
4:46you don't feel like you have to provide
4:48an answer there's no right or wrong
4:49answer just let us know if you see
4:51anybody in this photo that you do
4:52recognize and if you do we'll talk about
4:54help okay

9:03she's similar to the younger female that
9:05we've always described in everything
9:08this part right here
9:11remembering the hairline doesn't match
9:13smaller one older one and just because
9:16it's been a long time

9:21the younger one did like the main parts
9:23of it compared to the older one just for
9:25the last like Clarity of stuff
9:28so for the record so the younger ones
9:31the one that let me go and was the nicer
9:34of the two okay the older one was really
9:37abusive and
9:40is the one that did all the really
9:42terrible things
9:45and that that's my memory too just
9:47trying to reference it for our notes so
9:51we don't have to say oh she was

11:51down the road that were eventually
11:54happen where we are so were you able to
11:57find like where that house is yes
12:09and may I ask how did we even get to
12:12that point how did we get that
12:14familiar DNA so they said they came back
12:17and said oh here's some people related
12:18in this family there's about 40 people
12:21total that's a good thing I guess what
12:23food is better than we just started
12:24going through whatever phone numbers so
12:28we started looking at everything that we
12:29could phones online presence internal
12:32history Facebook photos DMV photo
12:38Denise obviously you guys are aware
12:39Denise is in a different location now
12:41she's the one that found that picture so
12:44we cast a white net to start finding
12:47certain houses is she still working on
12:49the case even though she's in not
12:50officially but I always call her and say
12:52hey what do you think about this what do
12:54you think about that but yeah she's
12:56still working on it
13:01so if you look at this
13:12you know there's stuff in there now
13:15I'm not looking stuff
13:20I literally was cleaning papers out
13:22yesterday and found that you didn't
13:27I haven't even looked at the picture yet
13:28but I've seen in that word can I look at
13:30it
13:33somewhere
13:47you remember this time yes I just found
13:51the original one of that and I was
13:52trying to explain it's a little bit
13:54different but
13:56it's pretty excuse my language it's

14:29the last question is this from the same
14:31house is that okay what what you see in
14:36this photo sharing like what
14:39so it looks very similar I mean this is
14:42what I'm remembering that feeling you
14:45know grabbing it and feeling that
14:47feeling but this part is different this
14:50part is different that doesn't
14:51definitely I'm saying this middle part
14:53it looks the same as what you remember
14:57but this piece right here this part
14:59doesn't look the same right and what was
15:02the difference in it that there was a
15:04lot more there was a lot more yeah

15:24this is like a piece of plywood almost

15:29that thick but it's about like three

21:05it's not a memory test if you don't
21:07remember that's fine but we we
21:09remembered that detail when we took some
21:11of these poses and we just wanted to
21:13bump it up against what you might want

23:50really quick though I remember when you
23:52were talking about
23:54being changed in the closet
23:57and trying to figure out a way to get
23:58loose
24:00you talked about working on a screw
24:03right and what happened to that screw
24:05when you were done with it I dug a hole
24:08in the wall and poked it into the wall

24:14an interesting photo as well

24:21closet no it was it was drywall it was
24:24into the driver it wasn't too drywall

24:43because ultimately this is the house
24:46that that you ever asked we talked to
24:50the people who live there

24:56we've we've found the house we found who
24:58was involved and we talked to who was
25:01involved we talked to family who who
25:05knows that you were there and talked to
25:09a couple people that or talked to one
25:11guy who did see you
25:14during this event unfortunately
25:19there's a lot of truth there's a lot of
25:21things that were that were said that we
25:24have always conferred that we've always
25:26said
25:27there's there's a lot of Truth and then
25:29there's some unknowns like one of the
25:31simple ones like well this description
25:32of the bathroom is just weird
25:34like that was like an argument in all of
25:36our offices where we were sitting there
25:38like this this part's weird but then we
25:41find a house with them then the the all
25:44thread through the thing that's just and
25:46that's just weird
25:47it's Unique to this place like that's a
25:51pretty custom you can't just go out to
25:53Ikea and buy a closet that looks like
25:55this yeah exactly right so once once we
25:58have all those things and we start
26:00talking to the person who lives here who
26:02had lived there who still lives there
26:05started talking to his family and
26:07starting that whole investigation
26:08peeling one thing back after another
26:10after another doing the same thing we've
26:12done for the last four years
26:15it led us to a specific person
26:18but not a female
26:20it led us to the car that picked you up
26:23but not an SUV
26:25so there's lots of different aspects
26:28that are truths and falses
26:31and we're to the point now that nobody
26:35would have ever imagined that this would
26:38have blown up the way that it did
26:40so I've been a cop 15 years I've never
26:44seen the media scale that that this
26:46garnered pretty quickly
26:49how long have you been law enforcement
26:51now 12 years in the bureau so like of
26:55the minds Brian who'd been around 20
26:57plus years people have been in my office
26:59like 25 30 plus years
27:02the media attention that this got out
27:04was
27:05was insane
27:07so I think with that being said some
27:11choices and some decisions
27:13ultimately ultimately changed the
27:15original path of of what happened
27:20I don't think anybody would have
27:23wished the media frenzy that occurred
27:26like for this event no matter what the
27:28situation if it was a kid because the
27:31media is huge so many facts it it
27:33brought so many people in from the
27:35woodwork that if we didn't have the
27:36woodwork we wouldn't have the noise and
27:38that brings a lot of pressure
27:43so we we'd like to talk to you more
27:45about those things and we can do it with
27:47Keith here we're being asking to leave
27:50to whatever you're comfortable with so
27:52we can
27:53break down some of the problems if you
27:56want Keith here all we want is to to
28:00have the truth all we want is be able to
28:02tell the truth
28:03all of that's all we've ever wanted from
28:06day one

28:12different things waiting for something

28:17complete something to hear because the
28:20DNA came back like I said to a specific
28:22person
28:23that specific person told us very
28:26specific things
28:28his family then told us specific things
28:32so if we can talk with Keith or without

28:53and like I've always said I wanted you
28:56to have a voice I wanted you to make
28:59decisions I wanted you to control
29:00certain aspects I think I told you that
29:02on the first interview we ever had I
29:05never want to bully you I never want you
29:07to believe I'm bullying you I want you
29:09to take back control
29:11that's one of those things this is that
29:13take back control of the interview which
29:16I promised you to do the first time we
29:18talk if you remember that actually we
29:20were in Mount Shasta so the second time
29:22we talked
29:23it's been a long road trip but we just
29:26want to talk to you we can have some
29:28kids step out that's going to make you
29:29more comfortable
29:31it's up to you

32:18um because I could tell you the puzzle
32:20that makes it all come together or I can
32:22tell the puzzle that crashes everything
32:24apart I don't know what that piece is
32:26honestly all I know is facts all I know
32:29is certain specific items that will
32:31either tear the castle down or is going
32:33to build the castle up and I don't want
32:35to I don't want to build tear the castle
32:37down and not give you
32:40the ability to then fix your own castle
32:42even if it's just a small thing here or
32:45it's the whole castle I want you to be
32:47able to to choose that so we can step
32:51out of the room let you guys talk
32:52because I don't know what information
32:54I'm gonna do if it's life-changing news
32:57or if it's oh yeah everything's fine I

33:04everybody's invested in this picture

33:30going to bring the whole world down I

33:33and then we need to talk talk alone or I
33:38would suggest we talk alone but that's
33:40completely up to you guys because I

35:47it's over whatever happened

1:24:43images of the severe beating she
1:24:45inflicted on herself and a shocking
1:24:48video in which police finally confront
1:24:51her with the truth
1:24:53Sherry papini the California mom who
1:24:55lied to authorities about being
1:24:57kidnapped and tortured was sentenced to
1:24:5918 months in prison Monday and this
1:25:02morning we're learning how her hoax
1:25:03slammed to a grinding halt
