  1. 0:05How many of you believe it's wrong for a Christian tobe drunk with wine?
  2. 0:10All right. Logically it must be equally wrong for a Christian
  3. 0:14not to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  4. 0:16The same verse says both.
  5. 0:19I believe it's probably more serious
  6. 0:22not to be filled with the Holy Spirit
  7. 0:23than it is to be drunk with wine. I mean that.
  8. 0:28It doesn't fit in with some theology but I actually mean it.
  9. 0:31I think God can more easily help a person
  10. 0:33who got drunk once or twice
  11. 0:36than he can help a person who's never filled with the Holy Spirit.
  12. 0:40That's the way I view it on the basis of Scripture and experience.
  13. 0:46The third principle is live by the word of God.
  14. 0:51This cannot be emphasized too strongly.
  15. 0:53You do not live by your feelings.
  16. 0:58You're not right because you feel right.
  17. 1:01This is so true about the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
  18. 1:03How do you know you got the baptism in the Holy Spirit?
  19. 1:05'I know I got it, I feel wonderful.'
  20. 1:08Yeah, but tomorrow morning you'll feel awful
  21. 1:10and then you'll know you didn't get it.
  22. 1:13Never let feelings be decisive.
  23. 1:17How do I know I've got the Holy Spirit?
  24. 1:19Because I asked God for the Holy Spirit
  25. 1:22and he promised if I asked for bread I'd never get a stone.
  26. 1:26That's how I know. I know by Scripture.
  27. 1:30I have the scriptural testimony.
  28. 1:32I have the promise, Luke 11:13,
  29. 1:35I have the evidence, Acts 2:4.
  30. 1:37That's how I know. What I feel is secondary.
  31. 1:42In the Christian life there are three F's
  32. 1:44and they go in a certain order. Facts, faith, feelings.
  33. 1:50The basis is fact, that's the fact of the word of God.
  34. 1:54On that you add by faith and your feelings follow.
  35. 1:59But never let your feelings dictate to you
  36. 2:02because they'll mislead you.
  37. 2:05Matthew 4 tells us the temptation of Jesus.
  38. 2:09Notice this temptation came to him
  39. 2:11after the Holy Spirit had come upon him.
  40. 2:15Normally you will have temptations
  41. 2:18after you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit
  42. 2:20that you would have had before.
  43. 2:24If you study these temptations,
  44. 2:26none of them could have come to Jesus
  45. 2:29before he was moving in the supernatural realm.
  46. 2:31Every one of them involved the possession of supernatural power.
  47. 2:36The same is true after you are baptized in the Holy Spirit,
  48. 2:40it's the time you will really be tempted.
  49. 2:43I meet many Christians who are not quite sure
  50. 2:45whether there's a personal devil or not.
  51. 2:48I hardly ever meet a person baptized in the Holy Spirit
  52. 2:51who doesn't know the answer to that one!
  53. 2:53That's one of the things you find out quickly
  54. 2:56when you're baptized in the Holy Spirit.
  55. 2:58The Holy Spirit reveals the identity of the enemy.
  56. 3:01That's why a lot of lukewarm
  57. 3:04churchgoers don't like Holy Spirit religion
  58. 3:06because it brings too much out into the open.
  59. 3:09They'd rather have it all kept under cover.
  60. 3:12The Holy Spirit doesn't keep things under cover.
  61. 3:15He forces the enemy out into the open.
  62. 3:17Another thing I'll say about the baptism in the Holy Spirit is
  63. 3:20many people don't know they have demons
  64. 3:22'till they get baptized in the Holy Spirit.
  65. 3:25That sounds strange. I know some theology doesn't fit in with that
  66. 3:29but I've been in that theological position
  67. 3:30that some of you are in and it isn't relevant to experience.
  68. 3:35Furthermore, it has no support in Scripture.
  69. 3:38Demons get stirred up when the Holy Spirit comes in,
  70. 3:40they don't have it all their own way any longer.
  71. 3:43If they haven't been driven out prior to receiving the baptism,
  72. 3:47then they're going to kick up more trouble
  73. 3:50and make more fuss than you've ever experienced in your life before.
  74. 3:53I believe ideally the scriptural order is
  75. 3:58these signs that follow them that believe.
  76. 4:00Number one, in my name they shall cast out the demons.
  77. 4:04Number two, they shall speak with tongues.
  78. 4:07But lots of places, it ain't being done that way yet.
  79. 4:15Let's hope one day it will.
  80. 4:17At the moment it really isn't possible to do it that way
  81. 4:20because most professing Christians today
  82. 4:23until they're baptized in the Holy Spirit wouldn't believe in demons.
  83. 4:27See? So, though it's not the ideal we have to work
  84. 4:31on the level on which we find ourselves.
  85. 4:34When Jesus received the anointing of the Holy Spirit,
  86. 4:39then for the first time so far as we know,
  87. 4:42he was subjected to direct satanic confrontation and temptation.
  88. 4:49In dealing with Satan Jesus used only one weapon.
  89. 4:55What was that? The Scripture, the sword of the Spirit
  90. 5:00which is the word of God.
  91. 5:02Each temptation Jesus began his answer with the phrase
  92. 5:08'It is written, it is written, it is written.'
  93. 5:11And you must do the same.
  94. 5:14This means you must get acquainted with the word of God.
  95. 5:17Jesus didn't have a concordance out there in the desert.
  96. 5:20He probably didn't even have the Scriptures.
  97. 5:22But he had it inside him.
  98. 5:24David said, 'Thy word have I hidden,
  99. 5:26treasured up in my heart that I might not sin against thee.'
  100. 5:32If you're baptized in the Holy Spirit,
  101. 5:34the next most urgent need in your life
  102. 5:36is to get to know the Scriptures thoroughly
  103. 5:40and have them available.
  104. 5:44You'll have to live by the word.
  105. 5:47Not by church traditions, not by what people say,
  106. 5:51not by your feelings but by the written word of God.
  107. 5:58The next principle is found there in the fourth statement,
  108. 6:05put on the whole armor of God.
  109. 6:07Let's look at Ephesians 6:10-18.
  110. 6:21These words are written to every believer,
  111. 6:24not to a special group like missionaries
  112. 6:25or preachers or evangelists but to every believer.
  113. 6:29Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,
  114. 6:33and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God,
  115. 6:38that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
  116. 6:41You are going to be confronted with the wiles,
  117. 6:43the deceptions of the devil.
  118. 6:46For we wrestle [we're in a wrestling match]
  119. 6:49not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
  120. 6:51against powers, against the rulers
  121. 6:54of the darkness of this present world,
  122. 6:56against spirits of wickedness in the heavenlies.
  123. 6:59Our wrestling match is with spirits,
  124. 7:02not with flesh and blood. Wherefore.
  125. 7:05And you remember what Charles said about wherefore and therefore?
  126. 7:07When you find a therefore you find out what it's there for.
  127. 7:09Because of this, therefore, verse 13:
  128. 7:14Wherefore, take unto you the whole armor of God.
  129. 7:18Notice you have to take it. God doesn't drop it on you.
  130. 7:21You have to acquire it, you have to take it to yourself.
  131. 7:27that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
  132. 7:30and having done all, to stand.
  133. 7:32There's going to come the evil day.
  134. 7:34Don't be upset about that, it comes to every believer.
  135. 7:38There's the evil day, there's the day of pressure,
  136. 7:40the day of testing, the day of misunderstanding,
  137. 7:42the day of opposition, the day of loneliness.
  138. 7:46You're going to go through it, every child of God does.
  139. 7:48We must, the Scripture says,
  140. 7:50through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of heaven.
  141. 7:53I don't believe that just means get to heaven.
  142. 7:56I mean, it gets into living in the kingdom of heaven right now,
  143. 7:59it's through opposition.
  144. 8:02It's through trouble, it's through testing
  145. 8:04that we come into that kind of living.
  146. 8:09Stand therefore, and now Paul lists six pieces of equipment.
  147. 8:14We cannot really call them armor but equipment.
  148. 8:17I'll go through them quickly, they're taken from the pattern
  149. 8:20of the Roman soldier in Paul's day.
  150. 8:22I don't want to dwell on most of them
  151. 8:24but I suggest you make a study of them for yourself.
  152. 8:28Number one, having your loins gird about with truth,
  153. 8:30the girdle of truth. Now, the girdle in
  154. 8:33ancient clothing was something around your loins
  155. 8:36which enabled you to lift up your lower hanging garment
  156. 8:40to leave your lower legs clear
  157. 8:43so that you could act freely without tripping over your own garments.
  158. 8:47Many times the Bible speaks about girding up
  159. 8:49the loins of your mind and so on.
  160. 8:51If you've ever lived in Palestine or those countries
  161. 8:54you'll know if you ever see a woman
  162. 8:56that's got to sweep the floor or do anything,
  163. 8:58the first thing she does is gather up her skirt
  164. 9:00and tuck it into her girdle so that her legs are free to move.
  165. 9:05Until you've put on the girdle of truth,
  166. 9:07when you try to move around, and get active you're going to trip up.
  167. 9:11So the first thing to put on is truth.
  168. 9:14Truth, I believe, in two forms.
  169. 9:17The truth of God's word and the truth about ourselves.
  170. 9:21This is basic to deliverance.
  171. 9:23Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
  172. 9:27You've got to start being honest.
  173. 9:30Drop off all the religious phrases you've learned,
  174. 9:34what I call the religious cop-outs
  175. 9:37and start saying what you mean.
  176. 9:39There's never been a time when so many people
  177. 9:42say so many sloppy words about faith.
  178. 9:46Lots of people talk about faith
  179. 9:48but they're just misusing the word.
  180. 9:51I had a little kind of encounter with a lady the other day.
  181. 9:54I trust she's forgiven me but she got up, and left me in tears.
  182. 9:58We've got to be real. Be honest.
  183. 10:03Come to the moment of truth,
  184. 10:05face the facts about yourself, about your situation,
  185. 10:08about your wife and husband and children, about the church.
  186. 10:12It's awful but you'll get over the shock.
  187. 10:16Without truth you're never going to make any progress.
  188. 10:19The whole basis of it. What does God require?
  189. 10:22Truth in the inward parts. And then he said,
  190. 10:25'In the hidden part thou will make me to know wisdom.'
  191. 10:27Sincerity in the inner part will bring revelation from God,
  192. 10:32but not without. Alright.
  193. 10:35The next one, the breastplate of righteousness.
  194. 10:39The are of the heart covered with the righteousness
  195. 10:42which is by faith of Jesus Christ.
  196. 10:45For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness. All right?
  197. 10:53Not the righteousness of good works
  198. 10:55but the righteousness received by faith of Jesus Christ.
  199. 10:58On no other basis than that Jesus died,
  200. 11:02was made sin for us, rose again
  201. 11:05and his righteousness is now imputed to us by faith.
  202. 11:10The next one, your feet shod
  203. 11:12with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
  204. 11:14The shoes [or the boots] of preparation for the gospel of peace.
  205. 11:20You have to be prepared to be a witness or a minister of the gospel.
  206. 11:25You have to have your shoes on.
  207. 11:27When we were in action in the North African desert
  208. 11:29in the second world war, if the enemy were close
  209. 11:33we were never allowed to sleep with our boots off,
  210. 11:35we had to keep out boots on night and day.
  211. 11:38In an emergency, if you had to reach out in the dark
  212. 11:41and grope for your boots and put them on,
  213. 11:44the thing would have passed before you were able to do anything about it.
  214. 11:47This has always been so vivid to me.
  215. 11:49If you don't have on the boots of the preparation of the gospel,
  216. 11:52the opportunity to witness, to serve,
  217. 11:55to minister will come
  218. 11:57and you'll still be looking up your Scriptures.
  219. 12:00You have to be prepared, you have to know the word of God,
  220. 12:03you have to be prepared in prayer.
  221. 12:05You have to have the peace of God to minister
  222. 12:07so that when people come to you in distress you don't say,
  223. 12:10'Let me go away and pray for half an hour, and I'll give you an answer,'
  224. 12:13you have it out of you right there.
  225. 12:15The preparation of the gospel of peace which is the boots.
  226. 12:19Then above all, or over all, taking the shield of faith.
  227. 12:23There are two kinds of shield in the New Testament.
  228. 12:26One is a circular, small, round shield
  229. 12:29and the other is a great, big, oval shield.
  230. 12:32This is the oval, long shield which is spoken of here,
  231. 12:35something that can cover the whole man.
  232. 12:37You can hide completely behind this shield. That's faith.
  233. 12:42The total covering faith which covers every aspect of your life,
  234. 12:46your family, you business, your circumstances, your children;
  235. 12:50everything is covered by this great shield of faith.
  236. 12:55It can quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
  237. 12:59Verse 17, two more vital pieces of armor.
  238. 13:02The helmet of salvation
  239. 13:05and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
  240. 13:08We've dealt already with the sword of the Spirit,
  241. 13:11let me take a moment to deal with the helmet of salvation.
  242. 13:14What area of the body does the helmet protect? The head.
  243. 13:18What does the head represent in your spiritual experience?
  244. 13:24Yes, in the body, but in your inner spiritual experience?
  245. 13:28The mind, the thought life, whatever way you like to put it.
  246. 13:33I have discovered by experience many Christians
  247. 13:37have their minds unprotected,
  248. 13:40they do not have on the helmet.
  249. 13:42They get wounded in the head
  250. 13:45and then they can't use the rest of the armor
  251. 13:48because they don't have the strength.
  252. 13:49I've learned this the hard way by personal experience.
  253. 13:53When I got delivered from the spirit of depression
  254. 13:56years ago God showed me now you're delivered,
  255. 13:58now you've got to learn how to stay delivered.
  256. 14:01God showed me these two things which I'm sharing
  257. 14:03with you now, the helmet of salvation
  258. 14:05and the other garment I'll show you in a moment.
  259. 14:09I realized that my main problem was in my thought life.
  260. 14:13I didn't have control over it.
  261. 14:14All sorts of negative, upsetting, disturbing,
  262. 14:19frustrating thoughts, resentment, fear of failure, unbelief, doubt,
  263. 14:26indecision would come crowding into my mind.
  264. 14:30I was having a continual inner struggle.
  265. 14:33I think it's true to say that most people are like icebergs:
  266. 14:38that which shows above the surface
  267. 14:40is only a small part of the total personality.
  268. 14:44There's things going on inside most people
  269. 14:46which don't show above the surface unless you have discernment.
  270. 14:50This was certainly true in my case.
  271. 14:53My problem was in the realm of the mind.
  272. 14:55My mind was highly trained,
  273. 14:58it was the thing I'd relied on all my life.
  274. 15:01Actually, the more intellectual you are,
  275. 15:04the more liable you are to have problems with your mind
  276. 15:08because you're more prone to rely on it.
  277. 15:12The Bible says, 'Cursed is the man who trusteth in man
  278. 15:17and maketh flesh [the carnal mind]
  279. 15:19his arm and whose heart departeth from the Lord.'
  280. 15:23Very often the simple, unsophisticated person
  281. 15:26is not so prone to rely upon the mind
  282. 15:29and doesn't have the same problems with the mind.
  283. 15:31It's not that there's anything wrong with being educated or trained.
  284. 15:34An educated and trained mind is a wonderful thing
  285. 15:37but it's an instrument.
  286. 15:39You better make sure who's using the instrument.
  287. 15:44Well, God showed me that I needed protection
  288. 15:46and as I thought about this I thought,
  289. 15:48'Well, there's one piece that must be for the mind,
  290. 15:51it's the helmet.' I read in Ephesians 6:17
  291. 15:54where it said the 'helmet of salvation.'
  292. 15:57I said to myself, 'Do I have the helmet or don't I?
  293. 15:59I'm saved, does that mean I have the helmet of salvation?'
  294. 16:03I had a Bible with cross references
  295. 16:05and I saw there was a cross reference to 1 Thessalonians 5:8.
  296. 16:09I turned over there and read these words.
  297. 16:11But let us who are of the day be sober,
  298. 16:14putting on the breastplate of faith and love;
  299. 16:18and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
  300. 16:22When I read the word 'hope' I got a sudden complete sermon.
  301. 16:26I saw that there was one thing that had never been preached to me.
  302. 16:29Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:14:
  303. 16:32Now abideth faith, hope, love.
  304. 16:36These are the three abiding realities.
  305. 16:39I'd heard many sermons on faith, a lot of sermons on love
  306. 16:44and never one sermon on hope all my life.
  307. 16:46I had to preach myself the first one.
  308. 16:49I came to see that this was what was missing in me.
  309. 16:53Faith in the Scriptures is in the heart.
  310. 16:57Mental faith is not the faith the Scripture deals with.
  311. 17:00With the heart man believeth.
  312. 17:02Lots of people have got tremendous faith
  313. 17:04but it's in the mind and it doesn't do what
  314. 17:07heart faith does. That's why they're surprised
  315. 17:10when they say 'I believe' and nothing happens.
  316. 17:12They do believe but it's in the mind.
  317. 17:14Faith is in the heart.
  318. 17:17So it's not for the mind.
  319. 17:19But there is something for the mind, what's that?
  320. 17:22Hope. Here's the secret. What is hope?
  321. 17:26I define it as this. A confident, unwavering expectation of good.
  322. 17:32That's in the mind. You know what I was?
  323. 17:36By birth and upbringing I was a professional pessimist.
  324. 17:42I was born one to start with and brought up to be one.
  325. 17:45In my family, if you weren't worrying about something
  326. 17:47you'd have to be worrying about what you weren't worrying about.
  327. 17:51I look back, my mother's with the Lord now
  328. 17:54but my dear mother was like that.
  329. 17:56She was worried if I wasn't worrying.
  330. 18:00Well, this had a deep effect upon me.
  331. 18:04When I was delivered from the demon of depression
  332. 18:08then God showed me, 'Now you're free
  333. 18:11to cultivate different thought reactions and patterns.
  334. 18:15Before you weren't free. But now you are.'
  335. 18:18Deliverance doesn't do it all,
  336. 18:20deliverance sets you free and then you have to do it.
  337. 18:25I realized that when I was a pessimist
  338. 18:28I was denying my faith in Jesus Christ.
  339. 18:31Pessimism is a denial of your faith as a Christian.
  340. 18:34You say give me a Scripture. Only one is needed. Romans 8:28.
  341. 18:39We know that all things work together
  342. 18:41for good to them that love God.
  343. 18:44If you love God and are called,
  344. 18:46all things are working together for good.
  345. 18:48If all things are working together for good
  346. 18:50there can never be a logical reason for pessimism.
  347. 18:54Every time you're a pessimist you're denying the word of God
  348. 18:57and you're denying your faith in God and Jesus Christ.
  349. 19:00I had to deliberately replace pessimism by optimism.
  350. 19:05It didn't happen in a week, it didn't happen in a month,
  351. 19:08it didn't happen in a year;, but it has happened.
  352. 19:12Today I'm a trained optimist.
  353. 19:17I mean that! I trained myself to be an optimist.
  354. 19:20Every time I find that pessimistic reaction
  355. 19:23beginning to come back I say, 'Wait a minute.
  356. 19:26There's no room for that.' This is the helmet, it's hope.
  357. 19:31A confident, mental expectation of that which is good.
  358. 19:37It says faith is the substance of things hoped for.
  359. 19:44Faith is in the now, hope is in the future.
  360. 19:49Each has its place.
  361. 19:51Hope is based on faith, faith is the substance.
  362. 19:55Faith is in the heart.
  363. 19:57Faith is for now and never for the future.
  364. 20:00Hope is in the mind and it's for the future.
  365. 20:04There's some beautiful Scriptures,
  366. 20:06I wish I could preach you a sermon on hope.
  367. 20:08Let me give you the one in Hebrews 6:19-20:
  368. 20:12Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul,
  369. 20:17both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into the veil;
  370. 20:22whither the forerunner [Jesus] is for us entered.
  371. 20:27Hope is the anchor.
  372. 20:31Why do you need an anchor? Why does a ship need an anchor?
  373. 20:34Because, a ship is floating around in a basically
  374. 20:37unstable element which is water.
  375. 20:39No matter how much that ship may want to be stabilized,
  376. 20:43there's nothing in the water to make that ship stable, is there?
  377. 20:47What does the ship have to do? It has to pass its anchor
  378. 20:50out from itself through the water
  379. 20:53and into another element that is stable.
  380. 20:55What's that? I like to say the rock.
  381. 20:59One is hope, it's your anchor.
  382. 21:03You live in a realm that's impermanent, unstable, insecure.
  383. 21:08In your material situation
  384. 21:10and circumstances there is no basis for security.
  385. 21:15I smile when I see insurance companies advertise peace of mind.
  386. 21:19As if they had the ability to give peace of mind.
  387. 21:24They don't. You can have all the insurance in the world
  388. 21:27and be riddled with insecurity
  389. 21:30because it doesn't depend on those things.
  390. 21:32When you've passed your anchor out of time into eternity
  391. 21:38and fastened it in the rock,
  392. 21:40then you're little boat is secure.
  393. 21:44The anchor is hope.
  394. 21:47Praise the Lord. Put it on. Use it.
  395. 21:50Also, it speaks about hope. I didn't want to do this
  396. 21:53but in Hebrews 5 it says 'it's like the horns of the altar.
  397. 21:57We fled for refuge to the hope set before us.'
  398. 22:00You know, in desperation a man who is being pursued by his enemies
  399. 22:04would flee to the altar and grasp the altar by its horns
  400. 22:08and no one dared to pull a man away from the horns of the altar.
  401. 22:11When you're in absolute desperation
  402. 22:14and all the demons are on your tail, what do you do?
  403. 22:17Get to the altar and grab the horns and hold on.
  404. 22:20The horns are hope. Never give up your hope.
  405. 22:24The world may collapse around you
  406. 22:27but God is still on is throne.
  407. 22:30Now there's a garment of praise.
  408. 22:32I've got five more minutes and a lot to cover.
  409. 22:36It says in Isaiah 61. We will read it quickly.
  410. 22:44This is what Jesus proclaimed in the synagogue in Nazareth.
  411. 22:48It's quoted in Luke 4:18 and following when he said:
  412. 22:53The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.
  413. 22:55He quoted this Scripture, let's read it.
  414. 22:57John Wesley said when he quoted these words,
  415. 23:00'Is there ever been a preacher of the gospel
  416. 23:02of whom these words were not true?'
  417. 23:05That was his comment. In other words, every preacher of the gospel
  418. 23:08should be able to say these words.
  419. 23:11The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
  420. 23:13because the Lord hath anointed me
  421. 23:14to preach good tidings unto the meek;
  422. 23:17he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
  423. 23:19to proclaim liberty to the captives,
  424. 23:21and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
  425. 23:24to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
  426. 23:26And notice in the synagogue, he stopped there.
  427. 23:29He did not say 'the day of vengeance of our God'
  428. 23:32because he came to bring grace, not judgment.
  429. 23:35Judgment will be on the next visit.
  430. 23:39To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
  431. 23:42to give unto them beauty for ashes,
  432. 23:45the oil of joy in place of mourning,
  433. 23:48the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
  434. 23:53If you've had the spirit of heaviness,
  435. 23:55you don't want it back, put on the garment of praise.
  436. 24:00When you're wearing the garment of praise,
  437. 24:02the spirit of heaviness does not like to come near you.
  438. 24:06This is a true story and it illustrates this.
  439. 24:10I was in London years back as a pastor and a lady arrived
  440. 24:13who was a member of our congregation,
  441. 24:15dragging a rather reluctant husband by her hand.
  442. 24:17Without warning said, 'This is my husband.
  443. 24:20He's a backslider, he's just come out of prison,
  444. 24:22he's got an evil spirit. Will you pray for him?'
  445. 24:26In those days, praying for a person with an evil spirit
  446. 24:29was an embarrassment to me. I didn't know what to do
  447. 24:32but we had with us a couple of Russian Jewesses
  448. 24:36who'd been saved in the Baptist church in Russian
  449. 24:38and later received the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
  450. 24:41They said in Russia the Baptists
  451. 24:43are more Pentecostal than the Pentecostals are in Europe.
  452. 24:47When they started praying
  453. 24:49they didn't care about what the neighbors thought,
  454. 24:50they just let go and praised God.
  455. 24:53We started to pray in a sort of vague way
  456. 24:55that people do pray when they think they ought to be doing
  457. 24:57something but don't know what to do
  458. 24:59which is the normal way most Christians treat evil spirits.
  459. 25:03We were really praising the Lord
  460. 25:06and this poor man who'd just come out of prison
  461. 25:09came up to me privately and said, 'I think I'm going.'
  462. 25:12I said, 'Why?' He said, 'Too much noise.'
  463. 25:18I didn't have an answer ready but God gave me one.
  464. 25:22I said, 'I'll tell you who doesn't like the noise.
  465. 25:24It's the devil. He doesn't like the noise
  466. 25:27because we're praising Jesus and he never likes that.
  467. 25:30You've got two alternatives.
  468. 25:33You can go now and the devil will go with you
  469. 25:36or you can stay and the devil will go without you.'
  470. 25:39He said, 'I'll stay.'
  471. 25:42I made a promise without meditating.
  472. 25:44A few minutes later he came up to me and said,
  473. 25:46'It just left, it left my throat.'
  474. 25:48I didn't understand really what he was saying.
  475. 25:50But the devil left because he couldn't stand
  476. 25:52the atmosphere of praise any longer.
  477. 25:56If you put on the garment of praise,
  478. 25:58you embarrass the devil much more
  479. 26:00than he can ever embarrass you. Don't wait to feel like it.
  480. 26:04Praise is a sacrifice, Hebrews 13:15:
  481. 26:07By him [Jesus Christ] therefore
  482. 26:09let us offer the sacrifice of praise unto God continually.
  483. 26:17Just saying it in my heart. No. that is, the fruit of our lips.
  484. 26:22That's not in your heart, that's out loud, out of your mouth.
  485. 26:27That's what God requires.
  486. 26:29David said when he was in the court of a heathen king
  487. 26:33slobbering on his beard, and scribbling on the door,
  488. 26:36pretending to be mad in order to save his life,
  489. 26:38do you know what he said? He wrote Psalm 34.
  490. 26:41Remember, that's when it was written and the first verse says:
  491. 26:44I will bless the Lord at all times,
  492. 26:49his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
  493. 26:53There is never a time and there is never a place
  494. 26:57when you should not be praising the Lord.
  495. 27:02If you put on that garment you'll enjoy it.
  496. 27:07Alright. Now we've got a minute and a half
  497. 27:11to deal with the other three things
  498. 27:12Cultivate right relationships.
  499. 27:14I'm preaching on that the other time.
  500. 27:17Be careful about going back into resentment,
  501. 27:21bitterness and unforgiveness.
  502. 27:24Cultivate. The moment you feel resentment
  503. 27:27rising up against that husband of yours, check it.
  504. 27:32I say replace the negative by the positive.
  505. 27:35'Brother Prince, I just resent him.
  506. 27:37What am I to do?' Pray for him.
  507. 27:40I don't believe you can resent someone
  508. 27:42and pray for them at the same time.
  509. 27:44So replace the negative by the positive.
  510. 27:46You'll have to be on your guard
  511. 27:48because resentment is a habit with many of us.
  512. 27:50I'll tell you another habit that most of us have
  513. 27:52and I'm not innocent.
  514. 27:55I'll tell you truthfully, and I'll say this in front of my wife.
  515. 27:59There are some situations in our home when my wife and I
  516. 28:02start to discuss certain things I say to her,
  517. 28:04'We should just as well play a tape recording of this
  518. 28:06because we both know what we're going to say now
  519. 28:08for the next five minutes.'
  520. 28:13When I say that then I say,
  521. 28:15'Let's switch off the tape recorder, shall we?'
  522. 28:18Stop it now.
  523. 28:21The beginning of strife, the Bible says in a rather vulgar,
  524. 28:24plain way, is as when one letteth out water.
  525. 28:28So stop before you start.
  526. 28:30You know how difficult it is once you've started, to stop!
  527. 28:46We've got two more things. Number six,
  528. 28:49cultivate right fellowship.
  529. 28:50You've got a good Scripture there about light
  530. 28:54cannot have fellowship with darkness.
  531. 28:57I don't mean that you separate yourself from the world
  532. 29:00and go into a convent but do not
  533. 29:02go around with the negative people.
  534. 29:06Cultivate positive people,
  535. 29:08people that will build up your faith,
  536. 29:10strengthen you, encourage you.
  537. 29:12If you've taken a stand for healing don't go back
  538. 29:15to the people that believe healing ended with the apostles.
  539. 29:18I'll tell you two things that come by hearing.
  540. 29:20One of them you know. Romans 10:17:
  541. 29:23Faith cometh by hearing. Do you know the other one? Unbelief.
  542. 29:28Jesus said, 'Take heed what you hear and take heed how you hear.'
  543. 29:34The book of Proverbs says, 'Cease, my son,
  544. 29:38to hear the instruction which causeth thee
  545. 29:41to err from the words of truth.'
  546. 29:44I'll tell you, if I wanted to keep my faith up
  547. 29:47I'd never go listen to some of the sermons
  548. 29:49that you people go and listen to on Sunday morning.
  549. 29:52I just couldn't do it, that's all.
  550. 29:54I don't want to fill my mind with negative poison
  551. 29:58and then try to live a victorious life. I couldn't do it.
  552. 30:01Maybe you're better than I am, maybe you're stronger.
  553. 30:03But you cannot feed on faith destroying sermons,
  554. 30:07literature and conversation
  555. 30:09and then expect to be a victorious believing Christian.
  556. 30:12It just cannot be done.
  557. 30:16What comes in has to come out somewhere.
  558. 30:19If you admit it to your heart
  559. 30:21it's going to be expressed in your living.
  560. 30:23'Keep thy heart with all diligence,
  561. 30:26for out of it are the issues of life.'
  562. 30:29If it gets in here it's got to be expressed in what you do.
  563. 30:32It matters what you believe.
  564. 30:37This goes beyond just what church you attend,
  565. 30:40it goes to the whole question of whom you spend your time with.
  566. 30:43What kind of people you listen over the telephone to,
  567. 30:47because a lot of people have a lot of problems
  568. 30:49through listening to the wrong kind of telephone talk.
  569. 30:53Finally, and this is the last, make Jesus central.
  570. 30:59Don't go off on a tangent about demons.
  571. 31:03See, you can be one-sided about anything
  572. 31:05in the Christian life except Jesus.
  573. 31:08You can be one-sided about tongues,
  574. 31:10one- sided about healing, one-sided about divine order,
  575. 31:13one-sided about women not speaking in the church,
  576. 31:16one-sided about demons.
  577. 31:17You can be one-sided about anything except Jesus.
  578. 31:21He's the center, he's the author, he's the finisher,
  579. 31:23he's the foundation and he's the coping stone.
  580. 31:27Keep Jesus in the center. I realize for many of you
  581. 31:30being confronted with this type of message
  582. 31:32and deliverance service, it makes a powerful impact.
  583. 31:36I can believe that.
  584. 31:37For the next few weeks you're going to wander around,
  585. 31:40'Do I have a demon? Does he have a demon?
  586. 31:41Does my preacher have a demon?' And so on.
  587. 31:43Well, they may all have demons.
  588. 31:45But don't become demon preoccupied? All right.
  589. 31:49It will take a little while to fit in to your total Christian believing,
  590. 31:54you've got to find a new style for demons.
  591. 31:59But don't let it dominate you.
  592. 32:02I give you that beautiful Scripture and then we close.
  593. 32:05Jesus said when he went to the cross:
  594. 32:07Now is the judgment of this world
  595. 32:10[now at the cross through what Jesus did]
  596. 32:12is the prince of this world [Satan] cast out.
  597. 32:16He's cast out, there's a vacuum.
  598. 32:19Who's going to fill it? The next Scripture is:
  599. 32:21And I, if I be lifted up from the earth,
  600. 32:25will draw all men unto me.
  601. 32:27Make it your supreme aim
  602. 32:30always to uplift and glorify Jesus.
