Sean Spicer: Most Reporters Just Want To Be 'YouTube Stars' — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:01White House press secretary Sean Spicer
- 0:02says that most of the fake news
- 0:04journalists just want to be YouTube
- 0:07stars. Here he is talking with Laura
- 0:09Ingram about how the liberal media are
- 0:10furious that he sometimes holds what are
- 0:13called press gaggles which are just
- 0:15press conferences in his office instead
- 0:17of the traditional version in the White
- 0:19House press briefing room where the
- 0:21reporters then can't grandstand in front
- 0:23of the cameras. Well, first of all, it's
- 0:26not fewer briefings. And again, this is
- 0:27this is part of the problem, I think,
- 0:28for people who don't take the time to
- 0:30listen to your show or others uh that
- 0:32inform them entirely, they they get this
- 0:34false impression. Uh the reality is is
- 0:36that we follow the same practice as u as
- 0:39past administrations. Uh despite some of
- 0:42the bias that a a press a free press is
- 0:45part of a healthy democracy, uh but that
- 0:48we would be doing it in in in some ways
- 0:50that were different and better. uh we've
- 0:52allowed more access to a lot of folks
- 0:54who haven't had it. The bottom line is I
- 0:55think that the mainstream media that had
- 0:57a strangle hold on deciding what
- 0:59information the American people got to
- 1:00see uh in some ways are upset that more
- 1:03people more voices are getting an
- 1:06opportunity uh to get involved in in
- 1:09having their questions answered to
- 1:10participate in our democracy. Um but the
- 1:13fact is is that they've had we are here
- 1:15as I mentioned yesterday at the
- 1:16briefing. I get in just usually around
- 1:186:00 a.m. We leave fairly late at night.
- 1:20Um, and so we are we have an entire
- 1:22press staff that is totally accessible
- 1:24um during those hours and on the
- 1:26weekends to the press. I think there's a
- 1:28big difference. What what you see a lot
- 1:29of the sniping is there's a lot of them
- 1:30that want to become YouTube stars and
- 1:32ask some snarky question that's been
- 1:33asked eight times. Uh and that's that's
- 1:36right. That's their that's their right
- 1:38to do it. But our job is to make sure
- 1:39that we're providing updates and
- 1:41readouts of what the president's doing
- 1:42and the advances that he's making on his
- 1:43agenda. Here's CNN's White House press
- 1:45correspondent Jim Acasta complaining
- 1:46about how President Trump just doesn't
- 1:48want to talk to him anymore. And he
- 1:50actually admits that the mainstream
- 1:52media is the liberal media. I don't know
- 1:55why everybody is going along with this.
- 1:57It just doesn't make any sense to me.
- 1:59And it just feels like we're we're sort
- 2:01of slowly but surely being dragged into
- 2:04what is a new normal in this country
- 2:05where the president of the United States
- 2:07is allowed to insulate himself from
- 2:09answering hard questions. He hasn't had
- 2:11had a full-blown press conference since
- 2:13February. He has these two plus two
- 2:16press conferences with a foreign head of
- 2:18state where, you know, maybe he'll take
- 2:19a question from a conservative news
- 2:20media reporter and then somebody from
- 2:22the mainstream media. It just this isn't
- 2:25how we do things in this country, but
- 2:26for whatever reason, we're all going
- 2:28along with it. Well, that's probably the
- 2:30first truthful thing to come out of Jim
- 2:31Costa's mouth all year, that the
- 2:33mainstream media is the liberal media.
- 2:35Of course, the mainstream media just
- 2:37can't stand the fact that the
- 2:38independent and alternative press is
- 2:40gaining popularity by the day. And while
- 2:43they claim that the president is cutting
- 2:45off press access, he's actually
- 2:48expanding it by giving out more press
- 2:50passes to smaller and independent media
- 2:53outlets, even
- 2:55infowars.com, which Jimmy Kimmel now has
- 2:57a problem with. White House press
- 2:59secretary Sean Spicer is u might soon be
- 3:03moving to another job in the
- 3:04administration. He's reportedly in the
- 3:06process of interviewing his own
- 3:08replacements. They're looking for
- 3:10someone who's cool under pressure, well
- 3:12briefed on policy, and can keep a
- 3:14straight face when saying yes, the
- 3:16gentleman from
- 3:18Infowars. The corporate media are in
- 3:20panic mode because of the rise of
- 3:22popularity of well, people like me who
- 3:24has over a million subscribers now.
- 3:26Thank you very much everybody for
- 3:27watching my back. And look at this
- 3:29garbage from BuzzFeed. Far-right
- 3:31activists are stealing tricks from
- 3:33YouTubers and it's going to get people
- 3:35hurt. A small group of far-right
- 3:37activists have figured out how to
- 3:39manipulate the media with new viral
- 3:42stunts and it's getting more and more
- 3:44dangerous. Oh no, YouTubers are becoming
- 3:47more popular. Like this beautiful blonde
- 3:49Lauren Southern. We got to shut her
- 3:51down. Here's another article from
- 3:52BuzzFeed. how YouTube serves as the
- 3:55content engine of the internet's dark
- 3:57side. Everyone knows that Twitter and
- 3:59Facebook spread bad information and hate
- 4:01speech, but YouTube, which pays for
- 4:04conspiracy theories seen by millions,
- 4:07may be even worse. Here's a conspiracy
- 4:10theory for you. Why am I never mentioned
- 4:12in any of these articles attacking
- 4:14conservative YouTubers? I'm the biggest
- 4:17one. Instead, most articles that I've
- 4:19seen attacking conservatives on social
- 4:20media, they just focus on people who
- 4:22have Twitter accounts or smaller YouTube
- 4:25channels, they're never mentioning me at
- 4:27all. I really think they're just trying
- 4:28to ignore me, hoping that I'll somehow
- 4:30go away. But sorry, it's not going to
- 4:31work. This channel's growing by about
- 4:33800 subscribers a day. Even Vice News,
- 4:36which was just given
- 4:37$450 million in venture capital to try
- 4:41to build up their media company, admits
- 4:43that there is a battle between YouTube
- 4:45and the mainstream media. They really
- 4:47don't know what to do with us, which is
- 4:48why they've basically just demonetized
- 4:50the entire platform or anyone who has
- 4:52objectionable or sensitive content,
- 4:55which translates to anybody that has a
- 4:58news channel, as you probably have heard
- 4:59about the YouTube ad apocalypse, which
- 5:01started in April. So, I really
- 5:03appreciate everybody's support of the
- 5:04last few months as I've had to become
- 5:06fanfunded through Patreon and through
- 5:08PayPal. So, thanks again for watching my
- 5:09back, you guys. Couldn't do this without
- 5:11you. I'm Mark Dice. Thanks for watching.
- 5:12Subscribe to my channel if you're new
- 5:14here. Check back every day for new
- 5:15reports. And we're just going to keep on
- 5:17going and I'll see you soon.
