- 0:09>> Gentlemen, welcome to the video. Sit
- 0:11back and relax. We got a good one. Today
- 0:13we're looking at a custom metal body AMT
- 0:17Toyota SCX24 with leaf springs. And
- 0:21right here is the guy that sent this
- 0:22truck in and built it. cg_crawls_401
- 0:31Let's see what we got.
- 0:33This isn't mine by the way. I did not
- 0:35buy this.
- 0:36I saw this on Instagram. I messaged him
- 0:38immediately whenever I realized it was a
- 0:41metal body and had leaf springs and he
- 0:43was down to send it.
- 0:45All right, what do we have here? Looks
- 0:47like this is the truck.
- 0:50There's juicy gummy clusters. First time
- 0:52seeing that. Thank you.
- 0:55Lemonhead ropes. Thank you.
- 0:57What do we have here? Oh, that's the
- 0:58metal panels that he used. Okay. And
- 1:00then oh, this is so cool. So, he cut the
- 1:03panels
- 1:05Gentlemen, I have just sat here
- 1:07unboxing, filming and talking about this
- 1:09thing for over an hour and the camera
- 1:11wasn't even on. So, bear with me.
- 1:14Everything's already been unboxed. I've
- 1:16already talked about this once. So,
- 1:17let's just quickly try this again.
- 1:19Getting right into it.
- 1:21Right here is the truck and this is
- 1:24awesome.
- 1:26So, fenders, door,
- 1:28bedside, all metal.
- 1:30And right here is the pieces that he
- 1:32used. You can see that they're modified.
- 1:36I think I did film a clip actually of me
- 1:38showing
- 1:39the actual build process. If that clip
- 1:41came out, go ahead and insert that right
- 1:42now. Reminder to myself.
- 1:44Had to step out of the sun for a minute.
- 1:46I just wanted to show some of the
- 1:48pictures here throughout the build
- 1:49process. So, here you can see like the
- 1:51original wheel wells, how tiny they are.
- 1:55Uh right there is opening
- 1:59opening the wheel well and like ex-
- 2:01extending that.
- 2:02Same for the back.
- 2:05>> [laughter]
- 2:06>> Right here is cutting the panels out.
- 2:10Here's cutting the entire front end
- 2:12apart.
- 2:25So, yeah, getting back into this right
- 2:26here is the
- 2:27the molds that he made and then right
- 2:29here is the metal sheets. This was like
- 2:31pressed over this stuff
- 2:33and it made this. And then he also has
- 2:35these little tape pieces here for like
- 2:37getting around the corners, the real
- 2:39tight corners.
- 2:40And if anyone wants instructions on how
- 2:42this was all done, I'm not going to read
- 2:44through all this, but I will go ahead
- 2:45and put it on camera.
- 2:47Uh, of course, feel free to go back and
- 2:48pause this like if you want to know
- 2:50information. So, dent body, right here
- 2:53is step one.
- 2:54Just going to go ahead and put that
- 2:55right there. 36 gauge
- 2:57metal.
- 2:58And then right here is the rest of the
- 3:00steps.
- 3:01I'll just go down through it slowly.
- 3:05Not meant to be read right now. Just
- 3:07pause it if you
- 3:08if you want to go back and check it out.
- 3:12And what else? Is there anything else I
- 3:14should
- 3:15Oh, and then some of the accessories
- 3:16here are really cool. The front winch
- 3:17plate and winch cable he made and then
- 3:20used a LEGO winch.
- 3:23Made the hook himself and then
- 3:25a piece from LEGO.
- 3:27The cooler he made from scratch from
- 3:28styrene and he has it like on a loose
- 3:30piece of Velcro. So, as it kind of bumps
- 3:32around the trail,
- 3:33uh, the cooler flops around, which is
- 3:35awesome.
- 3:36This piece here was like a life
- 3:37preserver buoy thing that comes with the
- 3:40Toyota model body and he repurposed it
- 3:42into a little fuel tank. And then these
- 3:45drive shafts, which I love this idea
- 3:47right here. These drive shafts are just
- 3:49a
- 3:50a piece that came with the model body.
- 3:52So, they're extremely lightweight, they
- 3:53don't do anything, and they look perfect
- 3:55in the bed.
- 3:58This is all over the place. Okay, and
- 4:00then just to quickly reread the first
- 4:02part here that he sent to me. Thank you
- 4:03so much for your interest in my dented
- 4:05panel AMT yard to build. My son Charlie
- 4:06and I are huge fans of your channel. He
- 4:08especially likes your Racing Rigs
- 4:09episode and is psyched that one of our
- 4:11rigs will be in your hands. This truck
- 4:12is technically my daughter Margaret's,
- 4:14and she is psyched that something of
- 4:15hers will be featured by a famous
- 4:17YouTube star.
- 4:19Margaret, this is one heck of a truck.
- 4:22Put lots of dents and scratches in it,
- 4:24that's what it's made for. Though, in my
- 4:25maiden run, I found it was harder to do
- 4:26than I thought, not because the material
- 4:27was too thick, but because it was hard
- 4:28to find scale terrain that would dent
- 4:30your body without going ham and rolling
- 4:31it off ledges and stuff. It's not a line
- 4:33slider, but a pretty capable trail rig
- 4:34crawl for fun. Would love to see it try
- 4:36the drunken frog, though I don't think
- 4:37it would make it. And I will gladly try
- 4:39that. And I Something I want to quickly
- 4:41mention about this, this is way sturdier
- 4:44than I thought it would be. Like, I I
- 4:46completely understand what he means
- 4:48about trying to find something that'll
- 4:49actually dent this without just like
- 4:51throwing it off the edge. This is It's
- 4:54not flimsy at all. This feels
- 4:56uh it feels really good. Oh, and then
- 4:59the leaf springs, I forgot about that.
- 5:00Uh leaf springs, let me just quickly
- 5:02show that in case anyone wants to copy
- 5:03it. I'm not going to read over
- 5:05everything, but if anyone wants to pause
- 5:08this part here
- 5:11and read through it.
- 5:135 mm wide recoil spring from a pull
- 5:15start motor like a weed whacker or
- 5:17chainsaw.
- 5:18And right here is like the leaf spring
- 5:21material that I used. Anyways, if anyone
- 5:23wants to pause this
- 5:24and kind of use it as like a guide
- 5:27for leaf springs, there you go.
- 5:31Okay, and I guess I need to do another
- 5:33build breakdown, so
- 5:36let's first just take a close look at
- 5:38this truck and appreciate it.
- 5:48Rusted wheels,
- 5:54You can kind of see the leaf spring
- 5:55sticking out the back there, super cool.
- 5:59The paint also looks really good.
- 6:20Okay, stock axles front and rear. Big
- 6:23brass stiff cover in the rear. Big brass
- 6:25stiff cover in the front. Brass knuckles
- 6:26with also some
- 6:28little brass standoff things glued on
- 6:30there.
- 6:31Little extensions here on the links to
- 6:32kind of stretch the front out some.
- 6:35I think these might be old RC four-wheel
- 6:37drive wheels. Um but regardless, just
- 6:39like a standard steely with super
- 6:42swamper tires.
- 6:44And the body is held on with magnets.
- 6:46There's the bottom of the body. You can
- 6:47kind of see around the edges here
- 6:50how the metal is like folded down and
- 6:51around.
- 6:57And then the inside
- 7:00of the panels
- 7:16Using a stock chassis with a custom
- 7:18front piece here to relocate the shocks.
- 7:21Double barrel shocks with the band
- 7:24going kind of down and around onto the
- 7:26servo. PTK servo.
- 7:28Enjoy purple fat viper.
- 7:31Uh Endura ESC
- 7:34Okay, uh let's try that again. Endura
- 7:36ESC
- 7:37and a better look at the leaf spring
- 7:40setup. I don't really
- 7:42know what to say about it. So, you guys
- 7:44can just look.
- 7:56And it attaches up here.
- 8:00Again, sorry. I don't really know what
- 8:01to say about the leaf springs. Just uh
- 8:04look and enjoy.
- 8:15Doesn't seem that bad as far as flexing.
- 8:19As far as the build goes, nothing too
- 8:20crazy here, of course, aside from the
- 8:22leaf springs. If we're not looking at
- 8:23the leaf springs, nothing too crazy with
- 8:25the build. Seems like a
- 8:28a good solid trail truck,
- 8:30like he had said. Okay, cool. Hopefully
- 8:32the camera was on. Hopefully all of this
- 8:34filmed.
- 8:35And next clip, oh, we need to weigh it.
- 8:38Okay, let's weigh it and then
- 8:41go do some crawling. Put some dents in
- 8:43it. Or at least scratch it.
- 8:45Turn on the closure scales. This is with
- 8:47the battery installed.
- 8:49And here's what we got. 55 front,
- 8:54492 total.
- 9:39All right, boys. Who was wanting to try
- 9:40the jumping frog?
- 9:42We'll see how close we get.
- 10:28Okay.
- 10:30>> [laughter]
- 10:30>> I don't want to push it too much.
- 12:36>> This might be our first scratch
- 12:37incoming.
- 12:45Oh, maybe not. I thought that jagged
- 12:46edge would hit up on the door.
- 12:56Another potential door scratch right
- 12:57here.
- 13:05Yep, looks like we keep hitting the
- 13:06metal slider down below the door.
- 13:17Oh,
- 13:18shoot.
- 15:09>> We've been through two truck battery
- 15:10packs, three camera batteries, and I
- 15:12still have yet to dent or scratch this
- 15:14thing. So, here's the plan.
- 15:17I put this rock here with the old door
- 15:18denter sticking outwards. I'm going to
- 15:21just try and turn, going around this.
- 15:24And sure hope we don't dent the truck.
- 15:30I think that's not going to work. Dang
- 15:31it.
- 15:40Well, no dent, but I think we at least
- 15:42got a scratch from that.
- 15:43Oh, yeah. Wow, we got two scratches.
- 15:47>> [snorts]
- 15:47>> Door dent attempt number three.
- 15:51I'm going to try and fall off the edge
- 15:53onto this sharp edge.
- 16:12Dude, how are we not
- 16:15>> [laughter]
- 16:16>> I thought this would flip over so
- 16:17easily.
- 16:20Oh, there we go, boys. That's good
- 16:22enough.
- 16:33I could probably still pop that out from
- 16:34the back and it wouldn't even be
- 16:36noticeable. Mission successful.
- 16:45Also, real quick, just for the record
- 16:46here, the owner and the builder of this
- 16:47truck was extremely into me putting a
- 16:49dent in it. Normally, I would never try
- 16:51and damage somebody's truck like that.
- 16:58All right, boys, final thoughts on the
- 16:59metal body AMT Toyota.
- 17:02Right off the bat, this is probably one
- 17:04of the coolest
- 17:06things that I've seen in a very long
- 17:07time. The metal body. And if you
- 17:09disagree, you're wrong.
- 17:11And also, not only is the metal body
- 17:13super cool, he did a very good job at
- 17:16painting this. Like even if this wasn't
- 17:17a metal body, I think the paint looks
- 17:19really, really good.
- 17:21The little cooler that moves around,
- 17:22homemade cooler out of styrene that
- 17:25moves around, love that. Definitely a
- 17:27trail truck, like he had said. Not
- 17:29really that capable at all, and I
- 17:31actually struggled to
- 17:33get clips of it. So, hopefully
- 17:35the video turns into something that's
- 17:36watchable. I really think some better
- 17:38tires and
- 17:40a better weight distribution would go a
- 17:43long way for this thing.
- 17:45I also think this is a really good
- 17:46candidate for like a real wide, low,
- 17:49beefy boy look. I think that's the
- 17:51perfect thing to pair with a metal body
- 17:53to make it look like a realistic rock
- 17:54crawler. Let me just run inside real
- 17:56quick and see if I have a different
- 17:57chassis to to just set this body on to
- 18:00kind of see like how it would look. I'll
- 18:01be right back.
- 18:03All right, we're back. That was harder
- 18:04than I expected to find a beefy boy
- 18:06chassis to place under this. Completely
- 18:08fine as is, it looks cool. Like, the
- 18:10stance and the fitment of it right here
- 18:12looks cool. Another small thing that
- 18:13bothers me about this, and not just this
- 18:16build, every build that's like this,
- 18:17this is always something that kind of
- 18:19irks me, is whenever the slider there's
- 18:22a gap between the body and the slider. I
- 18:24like that to be Oh, actually, you could
- 18:26probably just bend these up a little bit
- 18:28and have it like sit with the body. I
- 18:29think that would look so much better. It
- 18:31just bugs me so much seeing that
- 18:35right there.
- 18:37Yeah, so if this was my truck, I would
- 18:39probably
- 18:40try and bend these up. They might need a
- 18:42little bit chopped off of them and then
- 18:43like bend them up in line with the body.
- 18:46I I think that's a small detail that
- 18:47would make a big difference.
- 18:49Um, the rest of the truck pretty much
- 18:50good as is. As far as capability goes, I
- 18:52think more front weight, changing the
- 18:54tires, and of course like I said, I also
- 18:57think a really wide, low look would be
- 19:00cool with this. But, overall, extremely
- 19:02cool build. This is awesome. Leaf
- 19:04springs. I keep forgetting about the
- 19:06leaf springs.
- 19:07How did I feel about the leaf springs?
- 19:10I'm not sure how I felt about the leaf
- 19:11springs. The truck still seems to like
- 19:14move nicely as far as a a trail truck
- 19:17would. So, I don't think I have anything
- 19:18bad to say about the leaf springs. And I
- 19:21also think it's really cool being able
- 19:22to kind of see them sticking out the
- 19:23back there a little bit. So, overall
- 19:26here, not that capable, but I still
- 19:28think this is a 10 out of 10.
- 19:30This is awesome. Thank you so much for
- 19:32sending this.
- 19:35Awesome. Thank you guys for watching.
- 19:37That's all I got for this one. Thank you
- 19:38for your time.
- 19:40Hope you enjoyed.
- 19:47Peace.
