Full transcript
- 0:00one thing to remember in this debate
- 0:02when you're debating the topic of Islam being a religion of peace
- 0:05you must examine the life of Muhammad
- 0:07and how he dealt with the disbelievers
- 0:09depending on his circumstances and situation
- 0:12for example in chapter 33
- 0:14verse 21 of the Quran it says
- 0:16you have a good example in God's messenger
- 0:18for ever hopes for god and the last day
- 0:20which means that if you're a Muslim
- 0:22you must see how Muhammad treated the disbelievers
- 0:24depending on the situation and the circumstances
- 0:28what my opponent did tonight
- 0:30he focused on those verses
- 0:31that were composed
- 0:32during the second stage of Muhammad's dealing with disbelievers
- 0:36in order for you to understand my point
- 0:37there are three stages in Muhammad's development
- 0:40and attitude towards the disbelievers
- 0:42stage 1 when Muhammad is in Mecca and surrounded by disbelievers
- 0:46and he doesn't have the resources or the manpower to fight back
- 0:50even though he instigated the hostilities with them
- 0:52he preaches a message of tolerance
- 0:55of peace for example
- 0:56chapter verse uh
- 0:57chapter 1:09 of the Quran says say
- 0:59o unbelievers I serve not what you serve
- 1:02and you're not serving what I serve
- 1:04nor am I serving what you have served
- 1:06neither are you serving what I serve to you
- 1:08your religion and to me mine
- 1:10you don't wanna believe fine
- 1:11go ahead you're free in the matter now
- 1:13that's stage one now what happens in stage two
- 1:15shortly after that Muhammad migrates to Medina
- 1:18and has the backing of several tribes
- 1:20and coincidentally during this time
- 1:23when he has the backing of tribes
- 1:24and he has soldiers who are willing to fight for him
- 1:27he now implements self defense
- 1:29which was what my opponent was focusing on
- 1:31and for most of his debate speech that see
- 1:34we fight oppression those who oppress us
- 1:37yes that's stage 2 in Muhammad's development
- 1:40and stage 2 includes such passages as chapter
- 1:43I'm sorry chapter 2
- 1:44verses 1 90 to 1
- 1:4594 and chapter 22
- 1:47verses 39 to 41 now
- 1:48I don't need to read these passages
- 1:50because he pretty much took care of that
- 1:52but what about stage 3
- 1:54Muhammad conquers Mecca and subjugates the Arabian tribes
- 1:57he now implements offensive jihad
- 2:00not just jihad done in self defense or to fight oppression
- 2:04but jihad
- 2:05done with the purpose of subjugating everyone to the rule of Islam
- 2:09now let me read those verses
- 2:10chapter 9 verses 28 to 31
- 2:12and pay careful attention to what the text says
- 2:15and what it does not say
- 2:17and then I'm going to show you how Umar implemented chapter 9
- 2:20verse 29 but for the context
- 2:22verses 28 to 31 oh believers
- 2:25the associators those who associate with Allah are indeed unclean
- 2:29they're unclean
- 2:30so let them not come near the Holy Mosque after this year of theirs
- 2:33and by the way do not forget the historical setting of this passage
- 2:36this was supposedly revealed after Muhammad had conquered Mecca
- 2:40and the pagans were forced to subject to his rule
- 2:43now he's not satisfied with them remaining in their paganism
- 2:46now they must be expelled
- 2:48otherwise become Muslim
- 2:49if you fear poverty god shall surely enrich you of his bounty
- 2:55if he will god is all knowing
- 2:56all wise now note verse 29
- 2:58these are one of the final orders of Muhammad given to his community
- 3:02and we're gonna see how Umar implemented these orders
- 3:05fight those not who oppress you
- 3:08that's not what the text says
- 3:09fight those who attack you
- 3:10that's not what it says
- 3:11fight those who believe not in God and the last day
- 3:16and do not forbid what God and his messenger have forbidden
- 3:19so the grounds for fighting them is not because they oppressed you
- 3:22it's not because they attacked you
- 3:24it's because they don't believe what you believe
- 3:26OK let me continue
- 3:28such men as practice not the religion of truth
- 3:31and again according to the Quran
- 3:33the religion of truth is Islam
- 3:36being of those who have been given the book
- 3:38until they pay jizya out of hand and have been humbled
- 3:42now let's see how Umar implemented this text
- 3:45now note what my opponent said earlier
- 3:47either
- 3:47I was going to interpret the text on the basis of false Assumption
- 3:51or my ignorance well
- 3:53I'm going to let Umar interpret the text
- 3:55and then he's going to have to apply that criteria to his taif
- 3:58maybe he was ignorant or he was
- 4:01operating
- 4:01under the false Assumption that this passage mandated offensive jihad
- 4:05let's see this is from Ibn Kathir
- 4:08this honorable I now know the composition of this passage
- 4:11was revealed with the people of the book
- 4:14after the pagans were defeated
- 4:17note he subjugated the Arabs
- 4:19those who were idolaters
- 4:21the people entered Allah's religion in large numbers
- 4:24and the Arabian Peninsula was secured under the Muslim's control
- 4:29you see what he implements this passage
- 4:31when he has enough manpower and resources to spread Islam
- 4:35by the sword offensively
- 4:36so this is stage 3 now
- 4:38let's read on what he says about Umar's application of this passage
- 4:41the subheading of Ibn Kathir is quite telling
- 4:44paying jizya is a sign of Kufur and disgrace
- 4:48so why do Christians and Jews pay this jizya
- 4:50as a sign that they've been humiliated and disgraced because of Islam
- 4:55this is not me saying it these are his scholars saying this
- 4:58and this is what he goes on to say
- 4:59with willing submission in defeat and subservience
- 5:04and feel themselves subdued
- 5:06meaning disgraced humiliated and belittled
- 5:10that sure sounds like Islam is a religion of peace
- 5:13therefore Muslims are not allowed to honor the people of dhimma
- 5:17meaning the Jews and Christians
- 5:18who've been subjugated to the rule of Islam
- 5:21or elevate them above Muslims for they are miserable
- 5:25this is his scholar and interestingly
- 5:27when Ibn Kathir writes this
- 5:28he's writing this when Islam is dominant
- 5:30so he doesn't have to hide the true face of Islam
- 5:33unlike my opponent tonight right
- 5:35they are miserable disgraced and humiliated
- 5:39Muslim Sahih Muslim
- 5:41recorded from Abu Huraira
- 5:43now who's Abu Huraira
- 5:44the first generation of Muslims
- 5:46Muhammad's companion that the Prophet said
- 5:49do not initiate the Salam
- 5:51the peace to the Jews and Christians
- 5:53if you meet any of them in the road
- 5:56force them to the narrowest alley
- 5:59so if a Jew happens to walk by a Muslim and Islam is dominant
- 6:03Muhammad gives them the right to push them off the road
- 6:07and this is the religion of peace
- 6:09this is why the leader of the faithful
- 6:11Umar ibn al Khattab and it says may Allah be pleased with him
- 6:15demanded his well known conditions
- 6:17note this is not a choice he gave the Christians
- 6:19this is a demand that they must meet or they're going to have to fight
- 6:23and if they win then they keep their property or be killed
- 6:26and their women and children taken as captives
- 6:28demanded upon the Christians
- 6:30these conditions that ensured their continued humiliation
- 6:35degradation and disgrace do you see now why jizya is implemented
- 6:40do you see what Muhammad's companions did with this passage
- 6:44and why they implemented the jizya
- 6:46to humiliate Jews and Christians who are living under the rules
- 6:48now let's look at some of the conditions
- 6:51that the religion of peace mandates
- 6:53of Jews and Christians to observe
- 6:55and follow let's look at some of the conditions in the name of Allah
- 6:58most gracious most merciful
- 7:00this is a document to the son of Allah Umar
- 7:03the leader of the fifth faithful
- 7:04from Christians from such and such city
- 7:07look at the conditions he imposed
- 7:08we made a condition on ourselves
- 7:10that we will neither erect in our areas
- 7:13a monastery or a church or a sanctuary for a month
- 7:18nor restore any place of worship that needs restoration
- 7:22you can't even rebuild a church that's decaying
- 7:25under the rule of Islam provided Muslims are at stage 3 right now
- 7:29Muslims are in stage 2 stage 1 respectively
- 7:32let's continue
- 7:33we will not prevent any Muslim from resting in our churches
- 7:36whether they come by the day or night
- 7:38we'll open our doors to them
- 7:39those Muslims who come as guest
- 7:41we will enjoy boarding and fooding for them
- 7:43food for them we'll give them food
- 7:45we will not teach our children the Quran
- 7:48in other words to protect our kids
- 7:49why you shouldn't believe in the Quran
- 7:50you have no right to teach the Quran in the privacy of your homes
- 7:53under Islamic rule if you're a Christian or a Jew
- 7:56and we cannot publicize practices of shirk
- 7:59in other words if we have slogan saying that Jesus
- 8:02Son of God that's shirk
- 8:03you can't publicize that invite anyone to church
- 8:06so if I wanna invite you a Muslim
- 8:08to Christ as Lord and savior
- 8:09I am forbidden to do so by Omar
- 8:12one of the caliphs that Muhammad said
- 8:14follow his Sunnah this is not an ignorant
- 8:16this is a Muslim companion of Muhammad
- 8:19who is faithfully implementing the orders of his
- 8:22of his prophet and then it goes on to say
- 8:24we will respect Muslims
- 8:25move from our places where we sit if they choose to sit in them
- 8:29we will not imitate their clothing
- 8:31we will not even hang swords on our shoulders
- 8:34collect weapons of any kind or carry these weapons
- 8:37in other words Christians don't even have a right to defend themselves
- 8:40now he said that
- 8:41the Quran says that it's an obligation of Muslims to fight oppressors
- 8:45then who are fighting the Muslim oppressors of the Christians
- 8:47who deliver them from the oppression of Islam
- 8:49I'd like him to tell me we will have the front of our hair cut
- 8:52refrain from erecting crosses
- 8:53and then it concludes when I gave this document to Omar
- 8:58not to Sam Shamoun or Robert Spencer
- 9:00he added to it we will not beat any Muslim
- 9:03these are the conditions that we set against ourselves
- 9:07and followers of our religion
- 9:09in return for safety and Protection
- 9:11this is what you demanded
- 9:12if we didn't meet your demands
- 9:13you would punish us kill us and enslave our women and children
- 9:16so we meet these demands and we ask for safety and Protection
- 9:20see this is stage 3
- 9:21when Muslims have the upper hand
- 9:22these are the verses that they will be implementing
- 9:25and imposing the rule of Islam upon everyone
- 9:28now if you're a Jew and Christian
- 9:29you have the quote unquote
- 9:31privilege of living under Islamic rule
- 9:33provided you pay the jizya as a sign of humiliation and degradation
- 9:38that's according to the Quran
- 9:39chapter 9 verse 29
- 9:41that's according to Mohammed and Umar ibn al Khattab
- 9:43his companion but it gets better or worse
- 9:46depending on what side of the debate you're on
- 9:48this is what Muhammad said to treat Jews and Christians under
- 9:51under your rule Abu Basrah al Ghifari reported that the Prophet said
- 9:55I will write to the Jews tomorrow
- 9:56do not give them the greeting first
- 9:58if they greet you then say on you
- 10:00then Abu Huraira reported the Prophet said
- 10:04do not give the people of the book the greeting first
- 10:06force them to the narrowest part of the road
- 10:08and this is from Al Bukhari
- 10:10this is not my interpretation or my fortune
- 10:12these are the words of his own scholars
- 10:14of his own prophet of his own caliphs
- 10:16now let's see what Salafi scholars say about offensive jihad
- 10:20he was talking about jihad in the context of fighting oppression
- 10:23in other words self defense
- 10:25here's what his own scholars say about Muslims such as himself
- 10:28who deny offensive jihad
- 10:30jihad done by Muslims who take the initiative to subjugate
- 10:34even those who have not harmed or fought or oppressed Muslims
- 10:37this is what they say physical jihad is the Pinnacle of Islam
- 10:41and some scholars regard as the sixth Islam one
- 10:44of the strangest things to note
- 10:46is that
- 10:46we are living in a time when some of the Muslims are embarrassed
- 10:50to quote the verses and ahadith
- 10:52on jihad in front of their Catholic friends disbelievers
- 10:56so nadir is embarrassed to quote these verses
- 10:58and their historical context
- 11:00I don't blame him I would be embarrassed too
- 11:02their faces turn red
- 11:04because they are too shy to mention the rulings on the jizya
- 11:07on slavery and killing prisoners of war
- 11:11they wish that they could erase these verses and ahadith
- 11:14from the Quran and Sunnah
- 11:16so that they would not be criticized by this world
- 11:20with its backward principles
- 11:22despite its claims to be civilized
- 11:25if they cannot erase these passages
- 11:28they try to misinterpret them and distort their meanings
- 11:33so that they can suit the whims and desires of their masters
- 11:36these are Salafi Muslims saying that
- 11:38there are some Muslims who are living in the midst of unbelievers
- 11:41and are ashamed to speak the truth about Islam and its agenda
- 11:45to subjugate the world to Allah and his messenger
- 11:48well if you're ashamed
- 11:49then why are you a Muslim
- 11:50if you can't mention these passages
- 11:52and quote them in their proper context
- 11:54and see how your prophet and his companions implement them
- 11:57and you're that ashamed then why are you a Muslim
- 12:00why are you still trying to defend a religion
- 12:02that you're too ashamed to admit
- 12:04it's true agenda
- 12:04let's go on and see what it says
- 12:06and look at the verses can be offensive in nature
- 12:08taking the initiative in fighting this means pursuing the kaffirs
- 12:12the unbelievers in their lands
- 12:13it doesn't say pursue the kaffirs who pursued you
- 12:16pursue the unbelievers who attack you
- 12:18pursue them in their own lands
- 12:20and come and fighting them if they do not agree rule of Islam
- 12:25note what they did not
- 12:26they did not say fight them until they give up oppression
- 12:29until they give up attacking Muslims
- 12:31it says until they accept the rule of Islam
- 12:34and if they don't fight them
- 12:36this is clearly from the Quran
- 12:37and they quote his prophet
- 12:38remember he said be careful of false interpretations
- 12:41well I'm going to quote what they quote from his prophet
- 12:44it was narrated from Ibn Umar
- 12:46the Messenger of Allah said
- 12:47I have been commanded to fight the people
- 12:49until they bear witness that there is no god
- 12:51but Allah did he say
- 12:52I'm commanded to fight the people until there's no oppression
- 12:55did he say I'm commanded to fight the people
- 12:57until no one is attacked because of their religious beliefs
- 13:01or was the command to fight people until they say there is no god
- 13:05but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger
- 13:07in other words except Islam and establish regular prayer and pay zakat
- 13:13and if they do that then their blood and wealth is safe from me
- 13:16except by the laws of Islam
- 13:18and their reckoning will be with Allah again
- 13:20they say all of these texts
- 13:22and many others in the Quran and the Sunnah
- 13:24mean that it is obligatory
- 13:26for the Muslims to wage war against the kuffar
- 13:29and take the initiative don't wait until they oppress someone
- 13:33you take the initiative to subjugate them to the rule of Islam
- 13:36these are his sources his scholars
- 13:37not mine let me read some more of what the Muslims say about chapter 9
- 13:41specifically because he mentioned about Chapter 9
- 13:44and that chapter 9 doesn't contradict chapter 4
- 13:46it only explains it further
- 13:48on the contrary he mentioned chapter 9
- 13:50verse 5 but again
- 13:51he failed you to give you the historical context
- 13:53Chapter 9 verse 5
- 13:54was composed long after the pagans had already submitted to Muhammad
- 13:59he didn't he read a part of 5 and a part of six
- 14:01but he didn't give you the entire context
- 14:03Chapter 9 verse 5 is discussing what Muhammad did next
- 14:07after he subjugated the pagans of Mecca in Arabia
- 14:10he was not satisfied keeping them in their religion
- 14:14he had to force them to become Muslim
- 14:16and he broke the peace treaties with them
- 14:18not the other way around that's what his scholars say
- 14:21not me again
- 14:22Ibn Kathir this honorable Aya
- 14:24chapter 9 verse 5 is called the Aya of the sword
- 14:27about which Ad Dahab bin Muzaheem said it abrogated
- 14:32this is not Robert Spencer or David Horowitz or Sam Shamoun
- 14:35this is a Muslim
- 14:36it abrogated every agreement of peace between the Prophet
- 14:40and every treaty and every term
- 14:41so this verse
- 14:42gave Muhammad the right to break the treaties he had with the pagans
- 14:45and force them to become Muslim
- 14:47or be put that's the context of Chapter 9
- 14:50that's what he didn't want you to know again
- 14:52lest he says this is Ibn Qayyim
- 14:54let me quote Ibn Qayyim so I'm quoting his scholars
- 14:56he doesn't have me he has a problem with them
- 14:58so he shouldn't be attacking me
- 14:59he should attack Qayyim and say well
- 15:00you know what he was false assumptions
- 15:02you see if we apply his law
- 15:04Ibn Jose said kill the mushrikeen wherever you find them
- 15:08abrogating every peace treaty
- 15:10in the Quran it is quite interesting
- 15:12to establish that Islam only fights those who oppress Muslims
- 15:15but these scholars understood that verse to mean
- 15:17that Muhammad cancelled peace with every idolater
- 15:20and now the choice they had was to become Muslim
- 15:22isn't it amazing this way
- 15:24but his own scholars and his own prophet
- 15:26and his companions interpret it a different way altogether
- 15:29now why would he do that
- 15:30I'll get to that in a minute
- 15:31why he would do this again
- 15:33even ujezae is not alone here's s U t
- 15:36another sunny commentator
- 15:38this first chapter 9 verse
- 15:40verse 5 is the ayat of the sword
- 15:42which abrogates cancels out the pardon
- 15:45the truces and overlooking
- 15:47as Shafi took this
- 15:49as a proof for killing anyone who abandons the prayer
- 15:52just abandoning the religion
- 15:54you abandon the prayer and that's to kill you
- 15:56according to Surah 9 verses 5 and 6
- 15:59you see how they're interpreting these passages again
- 16:01now why would they be so upfront and bold
- 16:03because when these commentaries were written
- 16:05Islam was the dominant force in the land
- 16:08so they could be upfront and not hide or conceal anything
- 16:12but my friend is in a different situation tonight
- 16:14he knows that he's living in the land of unbelievers
- 16:16and because he lives in the land of unbelievers
- 16:18he can hide the true face of Islam
- 16:21because the Quran and his prophet
- 16:22and his sources say that he can conceal the true agenda of the
- 16:27of Islam and Muhammad and it's okay with Allah
- 16:30let me read it let me give you the verse itself and the commentaries
- 16:35so you know that I'm not making this up
- 16:36chapter 3 verse 28
- 16:38when Islam is dominant when Islam has the upper hand
- 16:41Muslims are not to befriend the disbelievers
- 16:44but in the case that Muslims are surrounded by unbelievers
- 16:48and the Muslims do not have the power to subjugate them
- 16:51the Quran gives them an exception
- 16:53it says you can befriend them outwardly
- 16:55here it goes Chapter 3
- 16:56verse 28 let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends
- 17:00in preference to believers
- 17:02who so does that has no connection with Allah
- 17:05unless here's the the condition
- 17:07he that wants to guard himself against them taking as it were security
- 17:12now let me read the interpretation of this text
- 17:15Ibn Kathir quoting Abu Darda
- 17:17this is what he says unless you indeed fear a danger from that meaning
- 17:21except those believers who
- 17:22in some areas or times fear for their safety from the disbelievers
- 17:26in this case
- 17:27such believers are allowed to show friendship to disbelievers
- 17:31outwardly but never inwardly
- 17:34for instance Al Bukhari
- 17:36this is the man who narrations
- 17:38according to some Muslims
- 17:39Al Bukhari recorded that Abu Adarda
- 17:42who was a companion of Muhammad
- 17:44the first generation
- 17:45the ones that Muhammad said were the best implementing Islam
- 17:48he says we smile in the face of some people like he did
- 17:51smiling in your faces although in our hearts we curse them
- 17:55you guys catch that a companion of Muhammad
- 17:59smile in your faces but we curse them in our hearts
- 18:03alright we got three minutes
- 18:04okay now let me go
- 18:05now he may say well no
- 18:06this is in the case that Muslims fear for their safety
- 18:09if you read Islamic history
- 18:11and I'm going to prove it in my rebuttal periods
- 18:13the ones who started the hostilities were not the unbelievers
- 18:17this is a selective citing of Islamic sources
- 18:20I have al Tabari Ibn Ishaq
- 18:22and others saying that when Muhammad preached the unity of god
- 18:25the pagans had no problems with him
- 18:27do you know when they started having problems with him
- 18:29when he started attacking their gods and deriding their family values
- 18:33and traditions then they had a problem and they begged him to stop
- 18:36and he wouldn't stop now what would you do in a situation like that
- 18:39but see to the Muslims
- 18:40it's okay what Muhammad does as long as you don't do it in kind to him
- 18:44because after all he's the prophet
- 18:45which begs the question
- 18:46let me read what his selfie scholar says about this concealment
- 18:50known as
- 18:51or this is a Salafi scholar saying this note
- 18:54this verse explains all the verses quoted above which forbid note
- 18:58when Islam is dominant
- 19:00they are forbidden to befriend Jews and Christians
- 19:02they are to subjugate them
- 19:03taking the kafirs the disbelievers as friends
- 19:06in general terms
- 19:07what that refers to is in cases where one has a choice
- 19:10but in cases of fear and takia
- 19:12it is permissible to make friends with them
- 19:14as much as is essential to protect oneself against their
- 19:18their evil so we are evil by nature
- 19:20so we can do anything to protect against you evil people
- 19:22and then Sheikh Muhammad al Sali al Uthaymeen
- 19:25a Salafi scholar because he's a Salafi
- 19:28this is what his scholars say
- 19:30undoubtedly the Muslim is obligated to hate the enemies of Allah
- 19:34it's an obligation for you Muslims
- 19:37it's not an option you must hate the unbelievers and to disavow them
- 19:41because this is the way of the messengers and their followers
- 19:44but Sina Tokyo is not just for fear
- 19:47if you're afraid
- 19:48you can actually use deception to convert people to Islam
- 19:51so there are two reasons for this concealment
- 19:54to protect the true face of Islam from the unbelievers
- 19:57lest they know the agenda of Muslims
- 19:58and also to deceive them into becoming Muslims
- 20:01this is what he says
- 20:02but if a Muslim treats them with kindness and gentleness
- 20:05in the hope that they will become Muslim and will believe
- 20:08there's nothing wrong with that
- 20:10and it you know
- 20:11comes under the heading of opening their hearts
- 20:13so it's okay pretend you like them
- 20:15smile in their faces to get them in Islam
- 20:17because once you come in there ain't no coming out without your head
- 20:20but if he despairs of them becoming Muslim
- 20:23but if he despairs of them becoming Muslim
- 20:25then he should treat them accordingly
- 20:27now since my time is almost up
- 20:29I want him to address the sources
- 20:31from authentic Islamic source material
- 20:34I did not quote my opinion
- 20:36I quoted Muhammad Umar bin al Khattab
- 20:38Abu Darda Abu Huraira and his Salafi scholars
- 20:41so if he says I was misinterpreting them
- 20:43then blame his prophet and his companions
- 20:45because I'm just going by their interpretation
- 20:48not mine so using his criteria
- 20:50criteria either they had false assumptions
- 20:53or they were simply ignorant about Islam
- 20:56to think Muhammad and his companions were ignorant about Islam
- 20:59and nadir knows more than them
- 21:00hallelujah for you nadir
- 21:01Islam is a peaceful religion
- 21:03he ran away from all four contentions
- 21:06and rather he debated is Islam a friendly religion
- 21:11are Muslims nice people or are they grumpy people
- 21:13that's not the subject of tonight's debate
- 21:16hypothetically what he's saying is true
- 21:18that Muslims are the type of people who push people around
- 21:20that is not the subject of tonight's debate
- 21:23it is Islam is a peaceful religion
- 21:25I made it very clear tonight
- 21:27that Islam teaches to fight the good fight
- 21:29for example look at the horrible oppression of people like Hitler
- 21:33and you look at the tyranny in the places of the world today
- 21:36Chapter 4 verse 75
- 21:37is all inclusive and teaches us to fight the good fight
- 21:40and fight against the oppression of the world
- 21:42that's the subject for tonight's debate
- 21:44he didn't refute that secondly
- 21:46I argue tonight that Islam clearly condemns chapter
- 21:49I'm sorry clearly condemn terrorism
- 21:51and I appealed to chapter 9
- 21:53verse 5 only to show that Surah 9
- 21:565 does not abrogate 4 7
- 21:584 91
- 21:59it confirms ratifies and shows exactly you we are supposed to um
- 22:05do the 4 91 spot check when we are at war
- 22:08that's the second contention which I argued
- 22:11third I argue tonight that um
- 22:14Islam teaches us to make peace among mankind
- 22:17if Muslims are a bunch of jerks
- 22:18by the way all of that which he quoted is not from Islam
- 22:21notice he ran away from Islam
- 22:23because he could not find justification for anything he said in Islam
- 22:28with the exception of one hadith about pushing
- 22:31somebody over to the side
- 22:32or just walking in front of them
- 22:33and because he couldn't find fault with Islam
- 22:36he had to run to the companions and the Salaf and people like that
- 22:39actually I just consider myself a regular Muslim
- 22:42but he calls me a Salafi Muslim okay
- 22:43no problem and because he couldn't find problems with Islam
- 22:47that's why he had to go to the scholars and
- 22:49but tonight the debate is not what scholars believe
- 22:51because for every scholar he proves
- 22:53he shows says something
- 22:54I can produce 100 scholars to say opposite against that
- 22:58tonight we are talking about God's Word
- 23:00the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad
- 23:03Sallallahu alaihi wasallam and what that says
- 23:05not what the the butcher the baker and the candlestick maker says uh
- 23:10Sam Shimon and the third and the most important contention tonight
- 23:14Islam came to to condemn and um
- 23:18and confront the terrorism and genocide of biblical Christianity
- 23:23and he ran away from all three questions which I
- 23:26which I had from and we are in hot pursuit
- 23:28Allahu Akbar because I'm not gonna let you go
- 23:31you have to answer those three questions well
- 23:33let's go to the Salaf he says you as a Muslim you are a Salafi
- 23:36you have to follow the Salaf alright
- 23:37let's go there man let us see who is one of the most prominent Salafs
- 23:41Abu Hanifa let us see what he says
- 23:43he said it is forbidden for you to follow the Salaf
- 23:46it is forbidden for you to follow me unless
- 23:49unless you know where I get my proofs and evidences from
- 23:54the Quran and the Sunnah so according to Abu Hanifa
- 23:57he said it is forbidden it's a sin for you to follow Salah
- 24:01if you don't know where they get their evidences from
- 24:04and this is a minhaj this is a methodology of all the Salah
- 24:07because they all said
- 24:09they were against what is known as blind following
- 24:12you do not blind follow them
- 24:14rather you look at their actions
- 24:16is there something in scripture which can back up what they are saying
- 24:19what they are doing if not
- 24:21the Salaf said and this is unanimous agreement
- 24:24and take my opinion and throw it to the wall
- 24:27and follow what the Messenger of Allah and um
- 24:30and the Prophet and and what the Quran said
- 24:32so Sam
- 24:33we went to the Salah
- 24:34and the Salah sent us right back to the scripture and said
- 24:36follow the Quran all right
- 24:38chapter 9 verse 20
- 24:39and I want to thank you for bringing that up
- 24:41fight them
- 24:42I've been ordered to fight them until they believe in the last day
- 24:45and from them you know
- 24:46the wealth is safe you know that hadith which he quoted for you
- 24:49where can we find those orders
- 24:50he's been ordered by who god
- 24:52that's chapter 9 verse 29
- 24:54where it says fight the disbelievers and don't
- 24:56and those who don't believe in the last day
- 24:58until they pay the jizya and feel themselves subdued
- 25:01that's the orders he was talking about
- 25:03let us look at this verse in its proper context okay
- 25:06not the way Omar understood it
- 25:07but the context of the Quran
- 25:09because remember what the Salaf said
- 25:11the Salaf said if you cannot find justification what I'm
- 25:14for what I'm saying from the script and throw my opinion away
- 25:17and first of all there's no evidence that Omar started a war
- 25:20against a peaceful nation of people
- 25:21there's no evidence of that
- 25:22but tonight's not a debate over what Omar did
- 25:25but what Islam teaches let us go to this verse over here
- 25:28when we look at the context of chapter 9
- 25:30verse 29 it was right after this verse was revealed
- 25:33they went and fought the Roman
- 25:34the Christians in the in
- 25:36who were the Romans at that time
- 25:37in Tabuk but the only problem was
- 25:39they were already at war with the Romans
- 25:42before 9:29 was even revealed
- 25:45they fought the battle of Mota one year before that
- 25:47therefore chapter 9
- 25:49verse 29 within its historical context
- 25:51what not to initiate and start a war with people
- 25:55but to continue a war which has already been started
- 26:00that's the context of chapter 9
- 26:01verse 9 and when I talked about jizya
- 26:03until they believe either convert
- 26:05pay the jizya or fight
- 26:07these are not reasons to begin and initiate or declare war
- 26:12but these are military objectives to achieve on the battlefield
- 26:16that's why you see the word until then
- 26:18so this is and when you look at the context of Chapter 9
- 26:21let's now look at the internal context
- 26:22when you look at the internal context
- 26:24it was not to begin a war
- 26:26the if you look at the chapter 9
- 26:28the declaration of war begins from 1 to uh
- 26:311 through 6 that's the declaration of war
- 26:33so even inside the context of the Quran
- 26:35it was to continue a war which has already been started
- 26:40now
- 26:40why was it so important to fight the Romans or the Byzantine Empire
- 26:44whose emperor at this time was Heraclius
- 26:47why was it so important to fight him
- 26:49well to put it simply
- 26:50Heraclius was the adult Hitler of the Middle East
- 26:54when the when the
- 26:55when the Romans invaded the Persian
- 26:57or invaded the Holy Land the Jews came out there to greet him
- 27:00and they were very happy for the Roman
- 27:02and that's when the Christians
- 27:04the Christian clergy got together
- 27:05and decided to give the good news of the gospel to the Jewish people
- 27:10and they said
- 27:11the time has come for the complete extermination of the Jewish race
- 27:16and thus the Holocaust was commenced
- 27:19and the Jews men
- 27:20women and children were slaughtered
- 27:22just like what we read inside First Samuel chapter 15
- 27:25verse 3 all men and women were slaughtered and children
- 27:29and the Jews ran in all different directions
- 27:31uh north and south and wherever they went
- 27:33they were intercepted by the born again Christian centurions
- 27:36and put to the sword so the problem is
- 27:39does the Bible really teach us stuff
- 27:40yes it does
- 27:41or else I would not have mentioned it
- 27:42so why is this very important
- 27:44why is this important
- 27:45the complete extermination of the Jews was imminent
- 27:48nothing stood in their way except one man
- 27:51and that was Prophet Muhammad
- 27:52Sallallahu alaihi wasallam
- 27:53and that's the context of chapter 9
- 27:55verse 29 because had Muhammad not fought the Romans
- 27:59then I don't think there would be any Jew today
- 28:02now that is not my opinion
- 28:03like I said I don't give my own personal opinion
- 28:06let us see from the Jewish Virtual Library
- 28:08let us see what the Jewish historians have to say about this
- 28:11let us get into this thing
- 28:13and this is the Jewish Virtual Library
- 28:15a division of the American Israeli cooperative enterprise
- 28:18he says when the when the Christian emperor
- 28:21uh Heraclius game
- 28:22he ordered the Jews killed and all synagogues destroyed
- 28:25and then he concludes this is very important
- 28:27look what he says here it looked like the end of Judaism in Judea
- 28:31however things were going on in the Arabian desert
- 28:35that within a seven years
- 28:36would change the picture of the Near East and of the whole world
- 28:39and that man is Prophet Muhammad
- 28:41Sallallahu alayhi wasallam
- 28:42had it and this is the evidence
- 28:44this is the historical evidence
- 28:45of why I say Islam is a religion of peace
- 28:47because it came to confront
- 28:50and condemn the genocide of biblical Christianity
- 28:54and if Christian if the Bible didn't teach that
- 28:57I wouldn't raise up this point
- 28:58but we know the Bible does teach that
- 29:00oh and not to be outdone folks
- 29:02you know in retaliation for the Holocaust
- 29:05which was going on the in the neighboring uh
- 29:07Persian Empire the Jews massacred Christian families
- 29:11just like you read inside the book of Joshua
- 29:13chapter 6 verse 21
- 29:15killing all men women and children
- 29:17and what they were especially known for
- 29:20was kidnapping Christians from the Roman Empire and
- 29:22and imprisoning them in the dungeons of the Persian
- 29:25in the Persian Emperor Cyrus
- 29:27where they underwent blood curdling
- 29:29torture at the hands of their Jewish captors
- 29:31and this was the context in which Jahad was raised
- 29:34so on this point
- 29:36this debate is over because we see that the
- 29:39because of jihad
- 29:40it saved this entire nation of people from extermination
- 29:43and this is the difference between Islam and Christianity
- 29:46Islam clearly condemns terrorism and genocide
- 29:49while biblical Christianity clearly embraces it
- 29:52as for the stages which he was talking about
- 29:54stage 1 2
- 29:553 that when we find people
- 29:56when we get powerful enough
- 29:57we attack them no such teaching as them
- 29:59these are from his bogus interpretations
- 30:01ah but he was a little bit clever tonight
- 30:03he said I'm just quoting from scholars
- 30:05so what you have to now
- 30:06show me where they are getting their evidences from
- 30:10from our scriptures they have to produce their evidence
- 30:12we don't blindly follow people uh
- 30:14but he was not able to do so
- 30:16so stop running to scholars
- 30:17start answering my three questions which I raised to you
- 30:20and that's what the subject is about
- 30:22it's not about whether we are friendly
- 30:24nice people or whether we're a bunch of jerks
- 30:25for tonight's debate fine
- 30:27we're a bunch of jerks this is about Islam and the religion of peace
- 30:30but we're actually not
- 30:37OK it's kind of ironic that he attacked me because I quoted scholars
- 30:41but he didn't hear who I quoted
- 30:43I didn't quote modern scholars
- 30:45I quoted Ibn Qayyim who was Ibn Qayyim quoting
- 30:47he wasn't quoting some Joe Schmo
- 30:50he was quoting Muhammad he was quoting Umar ibn al Khattab
- 30:53he mentioned Abu Hanifa saying that you only follow a Salaf
- 30:56provided he's given evidence from the Quran
- 30:59but note the evidence from the Quran was provided
- 31:01why did Umar do what he did
- 31:03because he was implementing chapter 9
- 31:05verse 29 of the Quran so
- 31:06the burden of proof is on you
- 31:07to show that he misinterpreted and misunderstood the passage
- 31:11when he has the backing of the Muslim Ummah
- 31:13the community agreeing with his interpretation of chapter 9
- 31:16verse 29 so it wasn't just quoting Umar
- 31:19it was quoting Umar as he implemented chapter 9
- 31:22verse 29 which told him take the jizya
- 31:25because
- 31:26that's the way you're going to humiliate the Jews and Christians
- 31:28and what's ironic is that he quotes a Jewish historian
- 31:31and he quotes him with with
- 31:33with favor because he has something nice to say about
- 31:36about Muhammad what if I were to quote Robert Spencer to you
- 31:39and the things he said about Muhammad
- 31:41would you agree and accept because it's Robert Spencer
- 31:44what if I quote David Horowitz
- 31:46another Jew you would say
- 31:47oh no
- 31:47these people have an agenda against Islam
- 31:49and what they say doesn't matter
- 31:51so stop committing the fallacy of appealing to authority
- 31:54and prove your case from your own Muslim scriptures
- 31:56because in my 25 minute opening uh
- 31:58position I quoted nothing but the Quran and the hadith
- 32:02and your Muslim scholars not today
- 32:05of the past
- 32:06when they spoke forthrightly because they had nothing to hide
- 32:09unlike you today living in the west again
- 32:11do me a favor address the citations from Umar
- 32:15address the citations from Abu Darda
- 32:17address the quotations from your prophet
- 32:19the fact that they were basing this on the Quran
- 32:22not on their own whims and desires
- 32:24he says that Islam is is peaceful
- 32:26it seeks uh
- 32:27peace and the only time it
- 32:29it fights is because of oppression
- 32:31well let me show you what the Quran says about that
- 32:33here's what the Quran says about making peace
- 32:35here it goes
- 32:36let me just find it real quick cause I don't want him to accuse me
- 32:38of quoting my sources out of context
- 32:40in the Quran it says in two places contradiction
- 32:43and I want him to reconcile the contradiction
- 32:45and if they incline to peace
- 32:47this is what he's been saying
- 32:48when Muslims fight those who oppress them
- 32:49if they incline to peace then incline to it and trust in god
- 32:53he is the all hearing the all knowing
- 32:55this passage seems to support his case
- 32:57but when you read chapter 47
- 32:5935 this is what we find
- 33:01so
- 33:01be not weak and ask not for peace while you are having the upper hand
- 33:06did you catch it
- 33:07when do you seek for peace and when do you accept terms of peace
- 33:11when you do not have the upper hand
- 33:13but when you have the upper hand
- 33:15this is your Quran saying this
- 33:17so
- 33:17be not weak and ask not for peace while you are having the upper hand
- 33:22so I'm not just basing it on scholars
- 33:24I'm basing it on the Quran and their implementation of these passages
- 33:28so let's look again at how Muslims interpreted this passage
- 33:32this comes from a commentary attributed to Ibn Abbas
- 33:35so do not falter do not weaken over upon fighting the disbelievers
- 33:39and it's the same for Islam
- 33:41before fighting before was uppermost
- 33:43when you are the victorious
- 33:45and the ultimate consequence will be in your favor
- 33:47seek for peace saying when you're not uppermost
- 33:50but now that you're uppermost right
- 33:52don't seek for peace that's Tafsir of Ibn Abbas
- 33:56who was a first generation Muslim and your prophet's first cousin
- 34:00again Tafsir of jalalain
- 34:01this comes from jalalain commenting on this passage
- 34:04not on their own whims and vain desires
- 34:06so do not falter do not be weak
- 34:09uh and do not call for peace
- 34:11that is to say a truth
- 34:12with the disbelievers
- 34:13should you encounter them when you have the upper hand
- 34:15so you see again
- 34:16this is why it's important to understand
- 34:18the implementation of the Quran
- 34:19depending on the stage that the Muslims find themselves in
- 34:22if they're in stage 1 and they're surrounded by disbelievers
- 34:25they're going to be harping on these passages
- 34:26oh peace
- 34:27peace Islam only fights in self defense to
- 34:30to oppress those who oppress others
- 34:32and to vanquish the wrongdoings done
- 34:34to those who don't have the means to defend themselves
- 34:37that's when they
- 34:37what they say to you when they themselves are in the minority
- 34:41but when they have the upper hand
- 34:42they're going to sound a lot like Ibn Kathir disgraced
- 34:46humiliated a lot like Umar ibn al Khattab
- 34:49we take jizya from you as a sign of disgrace
- 34:52and he was talking about how
- 34:53the Byzantine ruler wanted to destroy the synagogues
- 34:56what do you do with Umar
- 34:57who refused the right of Christians to build new churches
- 35:01and to also renovate those that were decaying
- 35:04if you have a problem with Heraclius
- 35:05then definitely you must have a problem with Umar
- 35:08if you're going to be fair and consistent
- 35:10and again because he likes to cite his sources quite selectively
- 35:14he gives the impression that
- 35:15Chapter 9 was revealed in the context of the Christians
- 35:18attacking the Muslims
- 35:19and he said that the Byzantines were at war with Muhammad
- 35:22but he doesn't tell you who started the war
- 35:25do you know who started the war with Heraclius
- 35:27it was Muhammad because he sent them a threatening letter saying
- 35:31become Muslim and you will be saved
- 35:33so the one who started the war with the Christians wasn't Heraclius
- 35:37he had no clue who Muhammad was
- 35:39it was Muhammad who sent him a letter
- 35:41inviting him to Islam or suffer the consequences
- 35:44and where's the proof here it is narrated
- 35:46Abdullah ibn Abbas
- 35:47Heraclius then asked for the letter addressed to Allah's Apostle
- 35:50which was delivered by Dehia to the governor of Busra
- 35:53who forwarded to Heraclius to read
- 35:55this is Muhammad sending a letter to Heraclius
- 35:57Heraclius has no clue who Muhammad is
- 35:59the contents say in the name of Allah
- 36:01the beneficent the merciful
- 36:03this is from Muhammad the slave of Allah and his apostle
- 36:06to Heraclius the ruler of Byzantine
- 36:08peace be upon him who follows the right path
- 36:11furthermore I invite you to Islam
- 36:12and if you become Muslim you will be safe
- 36:15which means what if you don't become Muslim
- 36:17then you're not safe why
- 36:19because when Muhammad implements age 3
- 36:20he's coming after you Heracles
- 36:22so then who started the fight
- 36:23see this is a selective citing of his own sources
- 36:26I'm trying to give you the sources in their context
- 36:29and to show you that it is Muhammad who antagonized the Jews
- 36:32it is Muhammad who antagonized the Christians
- 36:34it is Muhammad who antagonized the pagans
- 36:36and when they retaliated to defend themselves
- 36:38you have a problem so
- 36:39it's okay if he bullies people
- 36:41and forces them to believe he's a prophet
- 36:43and when they have good grounds to reject his prophet hood
- 36:46because they see that he contradicts their scriptures
- 36:48that's not a good enough excuse
- 36:49when I get to stage 3 I'm gonna show you guys
- 36:51and I'm gonna subjugate you to my rule and disgrace you
- 36:55that's the true face of Islam folks
- 36:56and then he said about that her uh
- 36:59Muslims saved the Jews from the slaughter of Heraclius
- 37:02then who saved the 600 to 900 Jews who were beheaded in a day
- 37:06the tribe of Banu Qurayza
- 37:08and you know what's astonishing thing
- 37:10he quotes a source that says that Suad was one of them
- 37:13he wasn't he wasn't a Jew
- 37:15you misquoted your source
- 37:16he was actually a pagan Arab who had problems with the Bani Qurayza
- 37:21and if you read the Muslim sources
- 37:22the Bani Qurayza didn't do anything
- 37:24to betray the treaty he had with Muhammad
- 37:27and that comes from Musnad Ahmed
- 37:29your own sources so again
- 37:31you're selectively signing your sources
- 37:32to justify the genocide of 600 to 900 Jews
- 37:37because Muhammad wanted to get rid of those
- 37:39who did not accept his prophetic claims
- 37:41he saw the Jews as a challenge
- 37:43when the Jews would go to their scripture and say well
- 37:45what you bring is nothing like what we have in the Torah
- 37:48we don't find your description in the Torah
- 37:50so he took that as a pretext to attack them
- 37:53and again what's the proof
- 37:54here's the proof from your sources
- 37:56this comes from Tarikh al Tabari
- 37:57the history of Al Tabari
- 37:59according to Yunus bin Abdullah bin Wahab bin Zayd
- 38:02the prophet used to turn to Jerusalem for 16 months
- 38:05he used to pray towards Jerusalem to appease the Jews for 16 months
- 38:09but then he changed his prayer direction
- 38:11and do you know why because the Jews started mocking him
- 38:14because they saw this guy claiming to be a prophet
- 38:16and they knew better from their scriptures he was no prophet
- 38:19then they started mocking him
- 38:20it says it reached his ears that the Jews were saying
- 38:23by God Muhammad and his companions do not know where their qibla is
- 38:27their direction we taught them their religion
- 38:29we gave them their prayer direction
- 38:31and they were speaking the truth
- 38:32because if you read these sources
- 38:34you'll note that Muhammad didn't just face Jerusalem
- 38:36when he went to Medina where the Jews were
- 38:38he was facing Jerusalem even in Mecca
- 38:40even though he claimed the Kaaba was the first house of worship
- 38:44built for god why was he still facing Jerusalem in Mecca
- 38:48because he believed that in appeasing the Jews
- 38:51they would be convinced he was a prophet
- 38:52why he didn't fall for it
- 38:54he turned against them in fact
- 38:56he threatens them this comes from Sahih Bukhari
- 38:58it says that it is related that Abu Huraira said
- 39:01while we were in the mosque
- 39:02the Messenger of Allah came out and said
- 39:05go to the Jews when we went out and came to the house of the Jews
- 39:08he said become Muslim and you will be safe
- 39:11no the same thing he said to Heraclius
- 39:14become Muslim and you will be safe
- 39:16in other words if you don't
- 39:18you won't in fact
- 39:18he says I want to expel you from this land
- 39:21why because the entire earth belongs to Allah and his messenger
- 39:25so I'm going to invite my friend to not selectively cite his sources
- 39:29and quote certain scholars that approve of Muhammad
- 39:32and ignore all
- 39:33tons of hadith and verses from the Quran and early history
- 39:37by Muslims who love Muhammad
- 39:39not Robert Spencer or David Horowitz
- 39:42these were Muslims who love Muhammad
- 39:44and they're telling you this is the true face of Islam
