1. 0:00we've been hearing bits and pieces all
2. 0:01day but within the last few minutes we
3. 0:03are getting more clarity on what exactly
4. 0:06did unfolded to put this into context
5. 0:08this was a brilliant night for the u.s.
6. 0:10swim team in the pool last night ending
7. 0:12the swimming section of these olympics
8. 0:14by taking gold in both the women's and
9. 0:16men's relays but it has ended on a very
10. 0:19sour note what we know is that Ryan
11. 0:21Lochte the most decorated Olympic
12. 0:24swimmer of all time behind only Michael
13. 0:25Phelps and three of his teammates jack
14. 0:27conger gonna Benson Jimmy Fagan were
15. 0:30making their way back home to the
16. 0:32Olympic Village in a taxi they had been
17. 0:34at an event at France house which is one
18. 0:37of the hospitality venues here in Rio
19. 0:39when they were pulled over by what
20. 0:41looked like policemen Lochte has
21. 0:45actually been speaking to NBC today and
22. 0:47he said there was a police badge but
23. 0:49there were no lights and they will ask
24. 0:51to get out of the taxi and onto the
25. 0:54ground lob ty told NBC that he refused
26. 0:56but three of his teammates did actually
27. 0:58get onto the ground and when locked he
28. 1:00refused he said that a gun was aimed at
29. 1:03him and it was cocked at which point he
30. 1:05said whatever and handed over their
31. 1:08belongings they'd actually didn't take
32. 1:10his phone or his credentials but they
33. 1:11did hand over their money and wallets
34. 1:14and the good news is that they got away
35. 1:16unharmed they returned back to the
36. 1:18village safe and well but no doubt very
37. 1:21very shaken up it's taken us a few hours
38. 1:24to piece this together because initially
39. 1:26the International Olympic Committee this
40. 1:28morning said these reports were false
41. 1:29the civil police the military police and
42. 1:32the US consulate all denied it but
43. 1:34within the last hour a very different
44. 1:37picture is emerging and the civil police
45. 1:39has now opened an investigation into
46. 1:42what exactly went on
