- 0:00hey guys what's going on it's Don here
- 0:01from Nova Spirit Tech and welcome back
- 0:03to our Channel and today I'm going to be
- 0:04showing you guys a really cool program
- 0:05called bottles which is basically a wine
- 0:08installer for Linux so let's get started
- 0:12[Music]
- 0:17now I use Linux a lot and from time to
- 0:19time I have to install Windows programs
- 0:22there's just no doubt about it sometimes
- 0:24it could be Photoshop sometimes it could
- 0:25be office or it could be just some
- 0:27utilities that only have Windows
- 0:29variants now I don't know if you
- 0:31stumbled across this before but there
- 0:34are dependencies involved in installing
- 0:36each component so sometimes when you
- 0:38install One windows program say like
- 0:40office that requires VC run 2019 or if
- 0:44you install another program like
- 0:46Photoshop that requires something else
- 0:47you can't have them mix between each
- 0:50other because they will conflict so
- 0:52bottles is the software that is a GUI
- 0:55installer for wine that will actually
- 0:57bottle or contain everything on its own
- 1:00making it easier for you to install now
- 1:03you can manually do this whole process
- 1:04which is called wine prefixes you just
- 1:07substitute your own directory for each
- 1:09wine or Windows installation so you
- 1:11could do your own thing for each program
- 1:13but after five or six programs you're
- 1:16gonna start getting confused on where or
- 1:18what dependencies it has
- 1:20etc etc so bottles basically contains
- 1:24everything all in one and puts it into a
- 1:26really pretty GUI now to get this
- 1:28installed it only supports flat pack
- 1:30which is great because it works really
- 1:32good all you have to do is just go into
- 1:34your software Center
- 1:36and search for the program bottles now
- 1:39if you don't have the software center
- 1:42with flat pack installed you're going to
- 1:43have to do that first but it should come
- 1:47up like this run Windows software it
- 1:49looks like bottles and then you could
- 1:50install it now in my case again I've
- 1:53already done many videos on installing
- 1:54flat pack and installing a gnome
- 1:57software Center so you could definitely
- 1:59Google it in my Channel or search
- 2:01anywhere else for basically gnome
- 2:03software package and flat pack it'll
- 2:06give you two commands to get this
- 2:07installed now once this is installed it
- 2:09will boot up like this
- 2:11and here it is what you can do right now
- 2:15is create a new bottle or if you have
- 2:17something in your library which I don't
- 2:18because I don't have any bottles you
- 2:20would have to do something here now say
- 2:22I wanted to install Battlenet and
- 2:25because OverWatch is a new thing and you
- 2:27want to install battle instead of using
- 2:29lutras which basically this is just like
- 2:32a lootress lutras just does it for
- 2:34gaming and it you know contains
- 2:35everything for each individual game for
- 2:37what it needs uh this is just for
- 2:39Windows programs and games
- 2:41so uh say I'm going to do bnet okay and
- 2:44I'm going to hit create it will actually
- 2:47create the folders containers and all
- 2:49the
- 2:50information that it kind of needs for
- 2:52most Windows installation so give this a
- 2:56few seconds and it'll just create this
- 2:58new bottle for you what's cool is that
- 3:00you can also save the bottle for future
- 3:02use which means you can export it out
- 3:04with all the settings so if you want to
- 3:06install on another computer all you have
- 3:07to do is just import the settings and
- 3:09you will have your bottle all set up
- 3:11now there are a lot of options in here
- 3:13as well that you can configure that you
- 3:15don't normally find on your regular wine
- 3:17installation that this does it
- 3:19automatically for you so that's always a
- 3:22benefit
- 3:23now here I have the bottle created and
- 3:25if I go into there I'm going to go down
- 3:27the list of stuff we have our Pro the
- 3:29first program that we're going to run
- 3:30which is the installable or any program
- 3:32that you want to install as far as games
- 3:34go and then if you go over to
- 3:36preferences here you can actually adjust
- 3:38some settings you got uh dxvk Vulcan 3D
- 3:42dlss FSR and I use this a lot for most
- 3:45Linux games uh latency Flex discrete GPU
- 3:49if you're using a laptop so you could
- 3:50choose between the Intel or the on-board
- 3:52discrete video card and then you have a
- 3:54few other things that you could play
- 3:56around with over here if you got like
- 3:57mango HUD you could enable it over here
- 4:00which I don't own this machine yet but
- 4:02there's a lot of things that you could
- 4:03do especially if you got dll overrides
- 4:06or depending on the environment or the
- 4:08game that you're trying to choose you
- 4:10can adjust the settings to that
- 4:12especially on dependencies say like if
- 4:14you need DirectX 11 or if you need uh
- 4:17dot net to play this game you could just
- 4:19install it right through here now what's
- 4:21really cool is
- 4:22um if you go into installers you can
- 4:25actually install the specific ones that
- 4:27you need so if you want bad on that you
- 4:28could just click here and install
- 4:29Battlenet you know since uh OverWatch 2
- 4:31is pretty popular right now uh then you
- 4:34got epic game store or even Star Citizen
- 4:37now if I go back and I create uh see now
- 4:41it doesn't have the big menu you just
- 4:42have to hit the plus button over here
- 4:44amps and you go to app environment for
- 4:47Windows it's going to install all the
- 4:49stuff that Windows usually require like
- 4:51VC run or net 4.8 or certain stuff that
- 4:56mainly are is geared towards Windows
- 4:58applications it'll create the bottle for
- 5:00that and then in there again you could
- 5:03go into Apps and then in there you're
- 5:06going to here and again going
- 5:08dependencies add all the stuff that you
- 5:10want so save I want to install an
- 5:13application
- 5:14um I am looking for I think I recently
- 5:16install the levitator setup.exe I hit
- 5:19run
- 5:21it's going to go through that installer
- 5:23this application does not require any
- 5:26specifics so it just runs right off the
- 5:28bat
- 5:29and I could just go through this install
- 5:32that's my software I decide to choose
- 5:33this because it's much quicker launch at
- 5:36the end and that is it the application
- 5:39will just run now if I want to go into
- 5:40programs and click here and save it as
- 5:45my library
- 5:46every time when I go into Library here I
- 5:49will have my little thing now this shows
- 5:51the wrong thumbnail because this is an
- 5:53app but regardless it does work and then
- 5:57I just have to hit the play button over
- 5:58here and it'll run that software that I
- 6:00have just installed this applies for
- 6:02games as well so if you guys got games
- 6:04and you want to install like I said your
- 6:06Battlenet or at the game launcher or
- 6:07whatever it is
- 6:09works as well now there are different
- 6:11bottles out there in the world I haven't
- 6:12done much research on where to get more
- 6:14bottles but they do have a website and
- 6:17it's right here use bottles.com and you
- 6:20could look through more of the
- 6:21documentations if you have any issues
- 6:23just do a bug report uh but yeah you
- 6:26have a bunch of stuff over here as well
- 6:28and you could probably find the
- 6:30information that you are looking for
- 6:31especially if you're trying to build
- 6:32your own application out as a bottle
- 6:34form anyway that is it for this
- 6:36application I've just recently
- 6:38discovered this and I really like using
- 6:40it now I I gotta be honest I haven't
- 6:42migrated all my applications over to
- 6:44bottles yet I've migrated some just for
- 6:46testing purposes but so far I haven't
- 6:48ran into any issues I got Battlenet
- 6:50OverWatch at the game launcher working
- 6:54um the levitator the one that you just
- 6:56saw that's another program working I do
- 6:58eventually want to migrate office over
- 7:00and a few Windows applications that I
- 7:02have but so far so good I like the fact
- 7:04that everything is separate and
- 7:06contained and I don't have to worry
- 7:07about remembering what wine prefix I
- 7:10have set up just for that particular
- 7:11installation anyway that is it you guys
- 7:14have any questions about this hit me up
- 7:15down in the comments below or on my
- 7:17Discord if you guys are new to this
- 7:18channel consider subscribing and also
- 7:20hit that Bell notification icon so you
- 7:22know when the next video is going to be
- 7:23out and as a minority
- 7:25hack till it hurts
