- 0:00Dickie Arbiter, good morning.
- 0:02>> Morning, Jeremy. How are you?
- 0:03>> Well, I'm all right, but today Angela
- 0:05Rayner's
- 0:06banter ban comes into being. We're not
- 0:08allowed in any office under the new
- 0:10Employment Strike Act to make any
- 0:12comments about age, disability, race,
- 0:14religion, sexual orientation, or gender
- 0:16reassignment. So, I no longer will I say
- 0:19that old git Arbiter's name. I'll say,
- 0:21"Good morning, Richard. Thank you for
- 0:22coming on the show."
- 0:24>> No, it's Dickie, actually.
- 0:25>> Well, you can't I don't think you can
- 0:27say that anymore, to be honest. I think
- 0:28I think I think the word Dickie's now
- 0:30banned. I mean,
- 0:31Dickie, welcome. I mean, let's start
- 0:33with the front page of the Mail.
- 0:35Extraordinary. Look who's back. There
- 0:38was a memorial service yesterday in St.
- 0:40James
- 0:41Church for Paddy McNally, her ex-lover,
- 0:43Fergie's ex-lover. Not only did she show
- 0:45her face for the first time in a year,
- 0:47she turned up with both daughters and
- 0:48their respective husbands. Put on no
- 0:51sort of show, just went. It was a year
- 0:53ago she was seen. Is this relevant, my
- 0:55friend? That's the first time she's been
- 0:56seen for a while.
- 0:58>> It is probably the first time she's been
- 1:00seen for a while, and I don't think it's
- 1:02relevant. Look, Paddy McNally was her
- 1:04lover for many years. She had a very
- 1:06soft spot for him, even though they went
- 1:08their separate ways, and she's just
- 1:09paying respect to somebody that she
- 1:11still loved.
- 1:12I don't think read too much into it. I
- 1:14don't think she's galloping to the front
- 1:16row
- 1:17to be first me, me, me, and
- 1:19picking up where she left off or where
- 1:21she was dropped off. I think it was just
- 1:23a one-off.
- 1:25>> You don't think you'll start to see you
- 1:26don't think talks of books and
- 1:27television series and her side of the
- 1:29story of the York's demise, etc., etc.,
- 1:31will go from this point?
- 1:33>> No, I don't. That's a long way off if it
- 1:36ever if it ever happens.
- 1:37>> You wouldn't put it past her, though,
- 1:38knowing the sort of character she is.
- 1:40The other story, of course, continues to
- 1:42be
- 1:43Meghan Markle's
- 1:44father, I should say, Thomas Markle Sr.
- 1:47being investigated in the Philippines
- 1:49for that stash, alleged stash, of child
- 1:52anti-child I'm going to say literature
- 1:55is the best way to describe it.
- 1:56Yesterday, the Met Police, who
- 1:59if you're following this story, peeps,
- 2:00this is the the Met Police who who wrote
- 2:02to Meghan Markle in 2018 and said we
- 2:04have concerns about your father. She
- 2:06didn't tell anybody. However, they lost
- 2:09the letter and had to go back to her.
- 2:10They have themselves reported themselves
- 2:12to the police watchdog over that lost
- 2:14letter about those abuse claims. The Met
- 2:16Police does not come out of any of these
- 2:19recent things in a good light at all, do
- 2:21they, Dickie?
- 2:22>> No, they don't. They they they they seem
- 2:24to up every time they blink. Um
- 2:27this is this is something that they
- 2:29should have been on top of. It should
- 2:30have gone to other
- 2:32uh police forces,
- 2:34particularly the Philippines and the FBI
- 2:35in the United States, but they did
- 2:37nothing with it. They lost it. Uh
- 2:39there's even a suggestion that they got
- 2:41a copy from Meghan. Well, if they got a
- 2:42copy from Meghan,
- 2:44what's she doing traveling around with
- 2:45it? And I got a few questions about this
- 2:48letter. Did uh Roslyn Loveless actually
- 2:51write it? Uh when did she write it?
- 2:53Because why why was it delivered um
- 2:55almost 45 years after she divorced her
- 2:58ex-husband? Did she sign it? Has anybody
- 3:00actually seen it? Is it a genuine
- 3:03letter?
- 3:03>> This is the ex-wife of Thomas Markle who
- 3:05apparently was snubbed by um the Met
- 3:08Police offering to help the child abuse
- 3:11investigations. I agree with you. The
- 3:12whole the whole story is disgusting and
- 3:15and it's all about the protection of
- 3:16kids, and of course we have Meghan
- 3:17Markle out straight away saying, "That's
- 3:19why I haven't allowed my father." Her
- 3:21critics then jumped on board and said,
- 3:23"Of course, kids are the most important
- 3:24thing." But if you found out in 2018
- 3:26that there were these allegations and
- 3:28you heard nothing back from the police,
- 3:30why did it take you 8 years? Surely
- 3:31you'd have been banging their door down
- 3:33saying, "What is going on? That is my
- 3:35father." Did the royal family know? So
- 3:37many unanswered questions. And it And
- 3:39this is this is a story that's going
- 3:40nowhere, is it?
- 3:42>> It is a story that's going nowhere. You
- 3:44mentioned did the royal family know? I
- 3:45don't think they I don't believe they
- 3:46did. It's not something that she would
- 3:48have shared with the family because by
- 3:51then, when the letter was delivered to
- 3:54the Met in January 2019,
- 3:56she was already estranged from the
- 3:58family. So no, I I I don't think the
- 4:01royals knew
- 4:02uh and they've taken the right attitude,
- 4:04Uh uh keeping silent, uh saying it's a
- 4:07matter for the Sussex to deal with. Uh
- 4:09meanwhile, what's Megan doing? Getting
- 4:12on with life, going to Australia, we
- 4:14hear, we're told, uh to do a Junior
- 4:15>> Junior MasterChef.
- 4:17>> Yeah, Junior MasterChef. Well,
- 4:19Australians are welcome.
- 4:21>> Yeah, uh the other thing that I want to
- 4:22talk to you about the King, uh you
- 4:23worked for the Queen, uh press secretary
- 4:25to the Queen for many, many years. The
- 4:26King uh in the middle of a Caribbean
- 4:28tour, uh unanswered questions about
- 4:31slavery reparations. I said it
- 4:32yesterday, I'll say it again. Quite why
- 4:34we don't get on the front foot and tell
- 4:35the world that we were the country that
- 4:37abolished reparations or abolished
- 4:39slavery, instead of spending our times
- 4:41apologetically all the time going, "Ooh,
- 4:43ooh, ooh, we're responsible for
- 4:44everything." Worryingly, though, um a
- 4:47poll out yesterday, his popularity dips
- 4:49four points since the publication of
- 4:51Earl Spencer's fiery swan song. You're a
- 4:54You're a response to that, Dickie?
- 4:55>> Well, Swan song was a few weeks ago now,
- 4:58and and polls do take a time to uh to
- 5:00conduct and get published, and I think
- 5:02he's back up there again over what the
- 5:05poll suggests. Um he's doing great job
- 5:07in the Caribbean.
- 5:08>> He always does. He always does a great
- 5:10job. Look at him. He's got cancer, man.
- 5:12And respect.
- 5:13>> Ahead of the Chogm meeting, uh there's a
- 5:15story today that he he had a tot of rum.
- 5:18Well, anybody who's had one of his
- 5:20martinis, and I have been subjected to
- 5:22one of them, uh will find rum a bit like
- 5:25orange juice, uh but it's not
- 5:26>> see, you're arguing with a man who lived
- 5:28in Barbados for 10 years. Are you
- 5:29telling me that you think you could
- 5:31drink Bajan rum more than one of his
- 5:32martinis? Bajan rum blow your head off,
- 5:34man.
- 5:35>> Well, his martinis will certainly blow
- 5:37your head off. I I took a sip of it and
- 5:39then tipped the rest of it into a yucca
- 5:41in Brazil, um because I don't drink.
- 5:43But, um
- 5:44>> A yucca? Do you know what a yucca is?
- 5:45It's a plant.
- 5:47Di- Don't you know you've upset the
- 5:48horticulturalists now? You see, you're
- 5:50going to be You're going to be canceled
- 5:51for pouring alcohol over some poor
- 5:53flower. Um Do you think the King will be
- 5:55all right? Do you think the royal family
- 5:56will be all right?
- 5:57>> The royal family will be Working royals
- 5:59will be okay. The King's leading the
- 6:01charge, uh
- 6:02ably is by by the Waleses, by William in
- 6:05particular. So, let's not fear. The
- 6:07royals are doing a good job. They will
- 6:09continue doing a good job. People in
- 6:11this country realize they're doing a
- 6:12good job. And what happens on the
- 6:14touchline
- 6:15is something for the matter of those
- 6:17people who are having to deal with it,
- 6:19and not the royal family.
- 6:20>> I'll tell you before we go what I think
- 6:22will happen at Meghan Markle's signed up
- 6:23for Australian Junior MasterChef. The
- 6:25latest country that I think she'll try
- 6:27and conquer. America, she's failed.
- 6:29Here, they can't turn the dial back. I
- 6:31think uh she and Harry and the kids will
- 6:34disappear off to Australia. I don't
- 6:35think they're going to stay in the
- 6:36United Kingdom. I think this is going to
- 6:37be a sort of nomadic lifestyle, which
- 6:39begs the question, do you not care about
- 6:40your kids' education or what?
- 6:42>> Well, it it does make you wonder. They
- 6:45they've been in two schools in this
- 6:46country, and if they're going to
- 6:47Australia, it means that the suggestion
- 6:49that they're going sort of middle of the
- 6:50year, which means the end of the school
- 6:52year. Yep, they're probably going to
- 6:54another school in Australia.
- 6:55>> Uh
- 6:55>> [snorts]
- 6:56>> mate, it's always good. Are horse riding
- 6:57today?
- 6:58>> No, no, that was Wednesday and Thursday.
- 7:00>> What are you doing today?
- 7:02>> I haven't decided yet.
- 7:03>> What a great life. Just don't offend
- 7:05anybody or say anything.
- 7:07>> No, no,
- 7:08and no banter.
- 7:09>> No banter. You did [clears throat] say
- 7:10up during that. We've had to We've
- 7:11had to blur that out and probably
- 7:12apologize.
- 7:13>> banter?
- 7:14>> You're not allowed. We don't have to say
- 7:15up. No, that's wrong. It's
- 7:16disrespectful to people who don't like
- 7:17that word up. Uh Dickie Arbiter, we love
- 7:19you. Have a great weekend.
