- 0:00i just saw someone stumble out of the
- 0:02crowd uh in front of me across the
- 0:04street this was on commonwealth ave
- 0:06probably about a half mile from the
- 0:08finish
- 0:09um
- 0:09she was in track clothes and wearing a
- 0:12number but i thought someone had just
- 0:14sort of stumbled into the race maybe
- 0:16somebody was a little crazy or something
- 0:17women's winner in the boston marathon
- 0:18today with a time of 231 and change now
- 0:20we don't know how many seconds that is
- 0:22it may be a new american record what was
- 0:24the time in your first ever marathon and
- 0:26where was it it was two hours and 56
- 0:28minutes and 33 seconds in new york last
- 0:31year and so you improved from two hours
- 0:33and 56 minutes to two hours and 31
- 0:35minutes
- 0:37what do you attribute that improvement
- 0:38in time to
- 0:40um i don't know
- 0:44you been doing a lot of heavy intervals
- 0:46um someone else asked me that i'm not
- 0:48sure what intervals are
- 0:50what are they well intervals are track
- 0:52workouts that are designed to make your
- 0:54speed improve dramatically and if you
- 0:55went from a 256 to 231 one would
- 0:58normally expect that you do a lot of
- 0:59speed work is someone coaching you or
- 1:01advising you
- 1:02uh no i advise myself
- 1:05it was a fantastic performance rosie
- 1:07congratulations
- 1:09rosie ruiz the mystery woman winner we
- 1:11missed her at all our checkpoints she
- 1:13came through the finish in a fantastic
- 1:14231 we have to confirm that time at this
- 1:17point but she was way ahead of a
- 1:18world-class field here today in the
- 1:19boston marathon thank you rose thank you
