- 0:01Genesis 26:18 tells us

- 0:10massive moves of the Spirit
- 0:13that changed the course of history.
- 0:16In every revival, there were believers like you
- 0:20who chose to answer the call
- 0:23to become the one in their generation.
- 0:26Discover your call to be the one
- 0:29in your generation.
- 0:31We are about to take you
- 0:33face to face with history.

- 0:46without running into this guy.
- 0:48Roberts Liardon, "God's Generals".
- 0:50Listen, if you want a full encompassing overview
- 0:53of revivals and through history,
- 0:55look into that.
- 0:56Look into his books, "God's Generals"
- 0:57but I gotta treat for you today because with me on the set
- 1:00is Roberts Liardon. Roberts.
- 1:02- Good to be here.
- 1:02- Thank you, thank you.
- 1:03Tell me as we're reaching across this,
- 1:05what is this you've brought with you?
- 1:07- Well that's a statue that I did of Smith Wigglesworth
- 1:10that I did years ago to raise money
- 1:12for our missions department and so I had
- 1:14a few extra ones left so I thought I'd bring you
- 1:18and the set to have a little statue of Smith Wigglesworth.
- 1:20Oh, thank you, thank you.
- 1:21- That's the way he was towards the end of his life.
- 1:23He was probably in his 70s in that time period.
- 1:28So that's his New Testament...
- 1:29- Thank you, thank you very much.
- 1:31- He would carry...
- 1:31- Yea,
- 1:32- so that's who he is.
- 1:33- I've got a lot of Roberts' stuff here so
- 1:36you can see, there is a plethora of literature here
- 1:39for you to look at and read so, take a look at it
- 1:41but I want to talk to you today,
- 1:43without getting into too much detail
- 1:45in the beginning...I want to talk about just revival
- 1:49in the history from all your research that you've done
- 1:52because we are of like breed here.
- 1:54- Okay.
- 1:56What is it that you see is the common denominator
- 1:59to where God moved
- 2:00in one of these great revivals?
- 2:02What is the common denominator?
- 2:03- There would be several.
- 2:04The first would be God uses the unlikely candidate
- 2:06to be the leader or the spark of it.
- 2:09Everybody I've studied
- 2:10should not have been who they became.
- 2:13There were reasons for their misconduct
- 2:15in their personal life or not the right education
- 2:19or they didn't have the right spiritual heritage
- 2:21and for some reason,
- 2:23God and them connected at the right moment and
- 2:25they were used to spark that particular thrust
- 2:29of God or the importance of God on that moment so...
- 2:31- Like who?
- 2:32- The guy right here.
- 2:34Smith Wigglesworth would be one.
- 2:35Wigglesworth. He couldn't even talk.
- 2:38I mean, you want to talk about Smith, he couldn't talk.
- 2:40His first part of his ministry was Salvation Army
- 2:43children's pastor taking the horse down the street
- 2:45and all the little kids would get a ride to church
- 2:47and a ride home that's how Smith started.
- 2:50Most of us don't realize that the Wigglesworth we know
- 2:53began after his wife's death when he was 57 years old
- 2:56and so when we talk about Wigglesworth,
- 2:58it's after 50 so everybody watching
- 3:00that think I'm 50 and over...Well Smith became
- 3:03the great Wigglesworth at 50 after his wife died
- 3:06so those are some of the basic ones.
- 3:09General Booth, the Salvation Army.
- 3:11Another gentleman that had just got the same,
- 3:14for worst terms kicked out of the Methodist Church
- 3:16because he was getting too many people saved
- 3:19and was disturbing that district areas churches
- 3:22stability and he had to quit
- 3:24bringing the lost into the church and
- 3:27he got kicked out because he wouldn't do it and
- 3:29he ran down the street and bumped into the tent meeting
- 3:32that began the Salvation Army.
- 3:34So these are the most unlikely people usually
- 3:37at a place where the low point.
- 3:38Ms. Kuhlman at the worst moment of her life
- 3:41is when God gave her the great healing mantle.
- 3:43- What was the worst moment of her life?
- 3:45- Well she had a great ministry and
- 3:47she married the wrong man and it was ended in divorce
- 3:50and she walked to a dead end street in California
- 3:53and she said to Jesus, "I have nothing.
- 3:55All I have left is that I have my love for You.
- 3:58If You can use that, use that please"
- 4:00and that was the moment God does,
- 4:01"Yea. I have an anointing.
- 4:03I've been trying to get it in a year and I've asked 3 guys
- 4:05and they've said, "No". Would you do it?"
- 4:07And she said, "Yes".
- 4:09And that became the beginning of Kathryn Kuhlman.
- 4:14I want His smile.
- 4:17I want His favor.
- 4:21I want Him to fold me close to His heart.
- 4:27I want Him to look down.
- 4:30I want His services all over me.
- 4:33The crowd is leaning and I go back to an empty dress room
- 4:40and I take off the long drape dress
- 4:44and I take my feet out of the shoes.
- 4:51I think of just one thing.
- 4:54Did I please Him?
- 5:00Did I do my best for Him?
- 5:05Have you seen that anywhere else where
- 5:07someone felt they were not or got a word from God
- 5:10that they weren't the first choice?
- 5:12- There are those that may comment like that in different
- 5:14...especially in healing revivals
- 5:16in some Pentecostal leaders.
- 5:18They felt like they weren't God's first,
- 5:20second or third choice.
- 5:21I think Kathryn was so large because she would tell it.
- 5:24"I was not"...You know how she talked,
- 5:26"I wasn't God's first choice.
- 5:28I was not even His third choice.
- 5:30I was His fourth choice".
- 5:32And so you know, I like to interview
- 5:33the 3 men that said "no" to that mantle.
- 5:35- Right.
- 5:36- Are you nuts?
- 5:38Look what she got and God was trying to get her in there.
- 5:40So you have that as a common denominator,
- 5:42the most unlikely people,
- 5:45coming out of some of the most worst moments or
- 5:47saddest moments of their life and they reach and God reaches
- 5:50and this divine thing happens
- 5:52and it sparks a great move.
- 5:54- All right, let me do this.
- 5:56I'm going to go through some names
- 5:59and I want you to give me your snapshot
- 6:01of each one of these guys. Okay?
- 6:03- I hope I know them all.
- 6:04And there are not in necessarily a certain order
- 6:06or chronological order. Okay?
- 6:08- Okay.
- 6:09- Jack Coe.
- 6:10Uh...
- 6:11A very wonderful man that began
- 6:14out of hurt and rejection.
- 6:16God anointed him but died at the height of his career
- 6:19because of mismanagement of his personal life.
- 6:22He did not manage his health and thus he died
- 6:25in a 90-year-old body.
- 6:27When they did the autopsy on him,
- 6:28he had the body of a 90-year-old man.
- 6:30He was overweight and he did the big tent thing.
- 6:33Had the great gift of faith but did not know
- 6:36how to deal with his own personal challenges which led--
- 6:38to an early departure.
- 6:40Hagin and Oral Roberts both said
- 6:43he had the greatest gift of faith of anybody they knew...
- 6:46- But regardless, 38 is way too young to leave.
- 6:49- He just got going.
- 6:50Think if he got to be 70 and then went to heaven,
- 6:53what he could have done.
- 6:54- Right.
- 6:54- And so...
- 6:55- Good, okay next one.
- 6:58Smith Wigglesworth.
- 7:00- Uneducated.
- 7:02Never finished into a formal education...
- 7:04Had his first experience with the Holy Spirit
- 7:06in a grandmother's Methodist...
- 7:08shout Methodist revival meeting...
- 7:11Got enthused with the Holy Spirit because
- 7:14people were getting healed in the Alexander Boddy's meetings
- 7:17in Sunderland and he didn't like the "tongues"
- 7:21stuff but he stayed around long enough
- 7:23to fall into it we could say and when he got Spirit filled,
- 7:27his stuttering left and so he began to
- 7:31minister, like I said a moment ago.
- 7:33His ministry really did not begin until after his wife died.
- 7:37When Polly died on the doorsteps of the church,
- 7:40he of course went ahead and buried his wife
- 7:44and was grieving
- 7:45and across in his home at 70 Victor Rd. was a stack about 4 or 5 inch stack of envelopes
- 7:51and these were invitations for Smith to come and preach
- 7:54because before he didn't travel around the world much
- 7:56because he had a church and a wife and family
- 7:58and so he stayed around Europe, mainly England
- 8:01and so he dried up his tears
- 8:04and picked up his grieving heart and said,
- 8:06"I'm gonna go" and he began to answer those invitations,
- 8:09which led him into the worldwide ministry
- 8:12of bringing the Holy Spirit to South Africa
- 8:14and New Zealand and Australia,
- 8:16the man that initially brought that movement there and
- 8:19he had a great personality...
- 8:21had a Yorkshire type of accent...
- 8:25and they asked him one day because he's known
- 8:28for his abruptness.
- 8:29- Right.
- 8:31- Now he didn't do that all the time but he did it enough
- 8:32to where it's legendary
- 8:34and they asked him one time.
- 8:35"Why do you hit people?"
- 8:36He goes, "I don't hit people.
- 8:37I hit the devil, they just get in the way".
- 8:38And so his personality was such that it worked on that.
- 8:43Brother Sumrall, my spiritual father said in
- 8:45the years he went to visit Smith at his home.
- 8:48He never met anybody else going to the house
- 8:50to meet Smith.
- 8:51Old great men usually die alone because no one
- 8:54seeks out their wisdom and so hopefully people
- 8:57watching will find the living generals today
- 9:00of Wigglesworth's stature
- 9:02and go and say, "What can we learn?
- 9:04Tell me that story again where you prayed for me."
- 9:06I've been to people today that they're home alone
- 9:09and they did great things for God and
- 9:11they should not be alone.
- 9:12Great men and women should be surrounded
- 9:14by young men into future generals.
- 9:16- Amen to that. That is so true.
- 9:18All right. You touched on my next one.
- 9:19My next one is Lester Sumrall.
- 9:21God is not giving us a spirit of fear...
- 9:24That thing that just runs all of the whole total human spectrum,
- 9:28hurt you in every place.
- 9:30Then he says, "But God is given us 3 things.
- 9:32You ought to underline them.
- 9:33This is II Timothy 1:7.
- 9:36And I'd like to supplement a few words
- 9:38if you don't mind.
- 9:39But God is given us a Spirit of power.
- 9:42Not a Spirit of fear but a Spirit of power.
- 9:45Now the word "power" has to do with authority.
- 9:47Has to do with 2 things: energy and authority.
- 9:50First authority.
- 9:52God is giving us a Spirit of authority.
- 9:54That's the reason we speak so positively
- 9:56because we know, you see.
- 9:58We know.
- 10:00God hasn't giving you a Spirit of fear.
- 10:01He's giving you a Spirit of authority
- 10:03that you know.
- 10:04You speak it and it has to be done.
- 10:08I would be telling you about a witch doctor
- 10:12in the morning service that I interviewed
- 10:15this last week.
- 10:16One of the most prominent witch doctors
- 10:19in the whole of Africa and
- 10:22when we got through the interview
- 10:24for an hour and a half,
- 10:26I said, "You feel anything remarkable
- 10:28or unusual about me?"
- 10:30I hadn't told him who I was yet.
- 10:31I just asked questions.
- 10:34That witch doctor said, "Well Reverend..."
- 10:38He didn't know naturally that I was a Reverend.
- 10:41He says, "Behind you is a light that I have to observe
- 10:46as is you are very strong man."
- 10:49He said, "I would never cross you."
- 10:51That's all?
- 10:55God is not giving us a Spirit of fear.
- 10:56He's giving us a Spirit of power
- 10:58that's even recognized by people who worship the devil.
- 11:02He said, "I would never want to cross you."
- 11:05And so God is giving us a Spirit of authority
- 11:09in the world that we live in today.
- 11:11Don't you wish we used it?
- 11:13Lester Sumrall carried a degree of Smith's mantle anointing.
- 11:19The last time Sumrall went to see brother Smith,
- 11:23the war was on.
- 11:24World War II was on and he had to get out of England.
- 11:26The British have sent him a letter to go home.
- 11:28So he went to his house to say goodbye
- 11:30and in the foyer area of Smith's home,
- 11:33he told him immediately, "Get on your knees",
- 11:35and Smith laid his hands on his shoulders and began to pray
- 11:39and brother Sumrall said he cried
- 11:41until the tears off of Smith's cheek would hit
- 11:44Sumrall's forehead and asked God to give him a portion
- 11:47of what he carried and that's the date
- 11:49that brother Sumrall lost fear.
- 11:52He was the boldest and most fearless man
- 11:54that I had ever met.
- 11:55- So he was fearful before that.
- 11:56- Well, in some degree, yes but he made the comment
- 11:59after that to me that he never had a fear
- 12:01that he ever dealt with.
- 12:02Again it's one of those things that just kind of happened.
- 12:04- And he was a bold guy.
- 12:05- He was gruff.
- 12:06I use the word "gruff".
- 12:07- Yea, gruff is the good word.
- 12:09- Not mean, or rough but gruff.
- 12:11It's between gruff.
- 12:12You had to know him.
- 12:13Understand, part of that was he's Irish, he's an apostle.
- 12:18He's also--got a certain degree of punch to him.
- 12:21All that wound up together created the gruffness of brother Sumrall.
- 12:24What he is known for besides...
- 12:27He only knew Smith for 3 years...3 to 4 years.
- 12:30The man that nobody ever talks about is Howard Carter.
- 12:32He was his spiritual father
- 12:33which is an unsung hero of the Pentecostal movement but
- 12:38to go back to Sumrall,
- 12:39what was great with Sumrall's ministry
- 12:41was the Filipino revival.
- 12:43The Philippines never had a Protestant revival
- 12:46until the great deliverance of Carlita
- 12:49with brother Sumrall in the 1950s and...
- 12:52I don't have time to go there but the great revival there
- 12:55came because he cast the devil out of a girl
- 12:57being bitten by an evil spirit
- 12:58- Uh huh,
- 12:59- and the mayor gave him
- 13:00anything he wanted out of appreciation
- 13:02and he asked for the city square that seated
- 13:05--stood about 150,000 people
- 13:07and so after 6 weeks of revival,
- 13:09after that deliverance,
- 13:11there was over 150,000 conversions in six weeks
- 13:15and Protestantism exploded in the Philippines
- 13:18and he built at that time
- 13:20the largest Protestant church in all of Asia.
- 13:22After Sumrall's great church became Cho...
- 13:26was the next great church in Korea.
- 13:28So the first great huge church in Asia
- 13:30was Sumrall and the tens of thousands and so we had that
- 13:34and so at the height of that...
- 13:36- And you know, they are still talking.
- 13:38They are still--When you go to the Philippines,
- 13:39you can still see evidence.
- 13:41People have pictures of that in their home.
- 13:44- Yea and it was the event that allowed
- 13:47all Protestant churches to thrive.
- 13:48- Right.
- 13:50- He dealt with the principality and power.
- 13:51He dealt with the national power there with that deliverance.
- 13:55Somehow that power and that deliverance
- 13:57and that thing with that girl
- 13:59knocked that thing back to where it's still not back
- 14:02and so it was a very interesting thing
- 14:04and at the height of it,
- 14:05the height of that church, height of that revival,
- 14:07God told him to come back to America
- 14:09and so it seems like every place Sumrall gets to going,
- 14:12he gets and at the height of it,
- 14:14God sends him someplace else and he came back home
- 14:18and he actually did more to help young ministers
- 14:20than anybody else I know for the end of his life
- 14:23and I was glad to say that he was my spiritual dad
- 14:25and I had a good relationship with him.
- 14:27He told me when I was right.
- 14:28He told me when I was wrong
- 14:29and it was good to have that in your life.
- 14:30- Yea, absolutely.
- 14:31There is a lot of wisdom in that.
- 14:33Okay, next up, A. A. Allen.
- 14:36Look at this child.
- 14:37[Crowd reacting]
- 14:41Six years old.
- 14:44Can't walk.
- 14:46How many would like to see this poor little kiddy
- 14:48healed tonight.
- 14:49Look at that.
- 14:51[Crowd cheering]
- 14:52Oh my God.
- 14:54Have you ever seen anything like in your life?
- 14:57[Crowd cheering]
- 14:59- No!
- 15:01Yes, honey.
- 15:02[Crowd applauding, awing]
- 15:05Poor little baby, oh, oh...
- 15:08[A. A. Allen shaking his head]
- 15:12Oh God, [Crying]
- 15:15I'm praying for this baby tonight.
- 15:18God, lift the curse and let this baby
- 15:20begin to grow
- 15:22and become normal.
- 15:26Hold him, honey.
- 15:27Oh God, oh oh oh...God.
- 15:31[A. A. Allen praying with emotion]
- 15:39In the name of Jesus, make him normal.
- 15:42Make him whole.
- 15:44Let him walk.
- 15:46Let him talk in Jesus mighty name, I ask
- 15:49for the Glory of God.
- 15:51Make him normal in Jesus' name.
- 16:01Lord Jesus, make his legs hold him up tonight.
- 16:05Let these legs hold him up tonight, Jesus.
- 16:08Oh God,
- 16:11Yes Lord.
- 16:14Say amen.
- 16:15[Crowd cheering, applauding] - Amen.
- 16:16Say amen.
- 16:17[Poeple cheering] - Yes!
- 16:18- Say amen!
- 16:19[Crowd cheering]
- 16:26Everybody say "Amen"!
- 16:27[Crowd] - Amen!
- 16:30And I'd like for you right there in your homes
- 16:32to sing with me.
- 16:37Everybody sing it.
- 16:38Sing it everyone.
- 16:39♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 16:47♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
- 16:54♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 17:02♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore.
- 17:10♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 17:18♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
- 17:26♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 17:34♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore.
- 17:44[People cheering]
- 17:51Can you say amen with me?
- 17:52[Crowd] - Amen!
- 17:54- Do you love Jesus tonight?
- 17:55[Crowd shouting] - Amen!
- 17:57- Sing it one more time.
- 17:59Let dedicate it to all that had been saved
- 18:02while they watch this telecast.
- 18:04In the sweet by and by we shall meet
- 18:07on that beautiful shore.
- 18:09And I'd like to know that everyone of you in your home there today
- 18:13are singing with me.
- 18:14Ready to do it. And one of these days, when you get up yonder,
- 18:18the pearly gates open wild,
- 18:21you're gonna see us coming down, the golden streets.
- 18:24[Piano]
- 18:26♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 18:35♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
- 18:43♪♪ In the sweet by and by,
- 18:51♪♪ We shall meet on that beautiful shore.
- 18:59[Crowd cheering with song in background]
- 19:22One of the greatest miracle ministries
- 19:25in the last of the great Voice of Healing Revivals,
- 19:30a man that was raised by moonshine parents
- 19:33who put liquor in his bottle,
- 19:35when he was a baby to make him quiet
- 19:38and got saved by a track or got provoked by a track
- 19:41that led him to a church of a lady preacher
- 19:43that got him saved and turned him around
- 19:46and he went to see Oral Roberts here in Dallas
- 19:49because he was passing Corpus Christi, Texas
- 19:51because the church wanted a pastor to kind of get revived.
- 19:54Well it revived him so much, he left the church
- 19:56and began the great A. A. Allen revival ministries
- 19:59and he had some phenomenal miracles.
- 20:00I mean, he was one of the most persecuted.
- 20:02That is a true statement because of the miracles
- 20:04also because he integrated his tent.
- 20:07He also was prophetic.
- 20:09He began to tap into the prophetic thing
- 20:11that we know about today: prophetic music,
- 20:14things like we call it prophetic music
- 20:16but music that can move in the spirit, I'd say it that way
- 20:20because he goes down as one of the greats.
- 20:22And nobody divided up the pie.
- 20:25He is one of the most wonderful guys.
- 20:26- Amen to that.
- 20:27Okay. R. W. Schambach.
- 20:31Are you listening to me, folks?
- 20:33There is trouble in the land but there is still hope
- 20:37for the people of God.
- 20:39Let them worship their false gods.
- 20:41I'm not bowing down to any false god.
- 20:44God is God!
- 20:46[Church cheering]
- 20:47And He is the same today as He was 2000 years ago
- 20:51and He is the answer to everyone of our problems.
- 20:55You don't have any trouble.
- 20:59All you need is faith in God.
- 21:03The true successors of brother Allen's ministry is anointing
- 21:06...Stewart got the machines and the paper.
- 21:09Schambach got the mantle in my opinion.
- 21:13He was able to pick that up and continue it
- 21:16and be able to come into another generation
- 21:18which would be mine, your generation.
- 21:20- Yea.
- 21:21- And he was one of the received authentic tent preachers
- 21:24of our time which were very few in those days.
- 21:26The era was over.
- 21:28It seems like God always leaves 1 or 2...
- 21:30that are successful that keeps that all thing alive for some reason
- 21:35and he was that and you know, "You don't have any problem
- 21:37which is more faith in God".
- 21:39His radio show and great, great man.
- 21:41He came to my church a couple times and preached
- 21:45and he never spoke negative
- 21:47about brother Allen which I always respected.
- 21:50He would always say, "I never knew him like that."
- 21:53And maybe never did and I guess it was
- 21:56a different time because I asked him
- 21:57all the controversy that we've just mentioned but he always...
- 22:01If you go to carry a mantle from somebody,
- 22:03you must not become --be negative
- 22:06against the thing that you carry.
- 22:07You've got be be able to hold it correctly
- 22:09or it begins to diminish and sometimes fades.
- 22:12- That is...What you just said is a mouthful.
- 22:15You've got to be able to carry it.
- 22:16- Yep.
- 22:17- Wow.
- 22:18- Part of it is to understand a bit of the demand.
- 22:20Every mantle has its great things
- 22:23like if you carry a Kathryn Kuhlman mantle
- 22:25which began--which came down from Maria Etter.
- 22:27It came from Etter to McPherson, to Kuhlman
- 22:30and then to Benny Hinn carries some...
- 22:32All of them had the same type of miracle power,
- 22:34the same type of draw
- 22:36and they all have the same problems.
- 22:37They had divorce problems and at the end,
- 22:39they had that heart and health problems.
- 22:41Every single of them so there is a certain spirit
- 22:44that Lucifer assigns to buffet mantles.
- 22:47Certain kinds of mantle so if you carry something
- 22:50from someone, you better know the good
- 22:52and the bad of it so you can outsmart the bad
- 22:55and know how to punch it and go around and not fall into it.
- 22:58Every single one of them.
- 22:59If we had time, we can go through all of them
- 23:01and I can show you exactly
- 23:03how great it was and they all had the same problems.
- 23:06- Right.
- 23:07What about...All right.
- 23:10Let me think where I want to go to next
- 23:11because we have like 8 different directions here.
- 23:14All right.
- 23:15Well, let's just say. Oral Roberts.
- 23:16- Another study.
- 23:18He didn't want to be a preacher.
- 23:20He wanted to be the governor of Oklahoma
- 23:21was his desire in life.
- 23:23He did not want to be a poor little Pentecostal.
- 23:26He ran away from home
- 23:27and collapsed on the basketball court in a basketball tournament
- 23:30coughing up parts of his lungs.
- 23:33He had tuberculosis which in those days,
- 23:35you were going to die.
- 23:36- Yeah.
- 23:37- And God healed him in a tent meeting
- 23:39about the size of this studio.
- 23:41He was the last one to be prayed for
- 23:43and God brought Oral Roberts on the scene to bring
- 23:46the Pentecostal church from the wrong side of the tracks
- 23:48to the right side of the tracks.
- 23:50He finally was able to bring education and anointing together.
- 23:54- What do you mean when you say, "The wrong side of the tracks
- 23:56to the right side of the tracks?"
- 23:57- Early Pentecostals were looked upon as
- 24:00uneducated, rude, loud, not orthodoxed,
- 24:05all the things--When you go from classical
- 24:08Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian,
- 24:11him singing, preaching the classical way
- 24:14and all of a sudden, for the first time in a 1000 years,
- 24:18you're allowing emotion to be a part of
- 24:22your worship service so if you felt a song,
- 24:24you could get happy and say, "Amen", or you could clap your hands
- 24:27and then the anointing came on you
- 24:29and you go, "Um" and run down the aisle.
- 24:31Now and all of a sudden, that began to be allowed
- 24:33that's why early Pentecostals would say,
- 24:35you know, "You can feel it but just don't be led by it".
- 24:39It's all right to feel it so when Pentecost came along,
- 24:42they were preaching, "God I hear You today."
- 24:43Bible days are here again.
- 24:45That faith like the apostles have returned
- 24:47and you can get your miracle and
- 24:49the gifts and the fruits and the grace are here
- 24:51and they "Oh" and they begin to get it
- 24:54and so these are the educated people
- 24:56looking down on these folks who are shouting
- 24:58as they are getting out of their wheelchairs
- 24:59and their churches are growing.
- 25:01Oral Roberts comes along and begins with class
- 25:04and dignity and education
- 25:06and then begins to tap into the cultural things of the day
- 25:09because usually most people who have a revival
- 25:12are anti-culture.
- 25:13If you're smart, you don't have a mixed culture
- 25:16and revival together so you can go straight into it.
- 25:18In those days, the "hellevision" called the TV,
- 25:22- Yes...
- 25:22- From the Pentecostal...
- 25:23American government asked the denominations
- 25:27to send responsible people to help govern this new medium
- 25:31of television when it first began
- 25:33and 90% of them did not even want nothing to do with it.
- 25:36- They refused.
- 25:37- And so we inherited the mess of that generation
- 25:40but Oral Roberts decided he wanted to be on
- 25:44that little black box of TV and he couldn't find anybody
- 25:49in the Christian Full Gospel circles
- 25:51who understood television.
- 25:52He had to go to Hollywood and ask 3 guys
- 25:54and this is where the term Hollywood preacher came from.
- 25:56It was a slap against Oral
- 25:58- Right,
- 25:59- and so he didn't have nobody.
- 26:01He didn't have TV cameras like you and the guys back here.
- 26:03It didn't exist.
- 26:04He had to go and find somebody and all of a sudden,
- 26:08it began to work and he found the camera guys
- 26:10and the people that could do it
- 26:11and he began to go on TV.
- 26:13And there was a young man named Lonnie Rex who lives in Houston
- 26:16who got him supernaturally
- 26:19bumped into the FCC kind of guy at the time.
- 26:22They got Oral Roberts connected to go on
- 26:24hundreds of stations in a short matter of time
- 26:26because they wouldn't want to put Oral on
- 26:28and he turned it and they were at where they met
- 26:32at a Rolls-Royce car show...
- 26:33Wow...
- 26:35because Lonnie Rex and that guy both loved Rolls-Royce cars
- 26:38and they were the last 2 to walk out of that show
- 26:41in Tulsa that day.
- 26:42- Wow.
- 26:43- And that's how, it happened.
- 26:46When I started this journey
- 26:47of learning about revivals, it took a lot of time.
