- 0:00at the sfss we rely on Robert's Rules of
- 0:03Order to ensure that all meetings run
- 0:05effectively this video will go through
- 0:07the basics of Robert's Rules and how
- 0:09they work to make meetings more
- 0:11efficient to keep meetings on track all
- 0:14orders of business are organized in an
- 0:16agenda that lists the various items that
- 0:18will be discussed at the beginning of
- 0:20our meetings members will vote on the
- 0:22adoption of this agenda only after the
- 0:25agenda is adopted can the meeting
- 0:27proceed at the core of Robert's Rules is
- 0:30the creation of motions which are formal
- 0:32proposals for an organization's
- 0:33membership to take a stance or take
- 0:35action on a certain
- 0:37issue to make a motion you must first
- 0:39obtain the floor to do so you must wait
- 0:42for the chairperson to call on you after
- 0:44the last speaker has
- 0:46spoken when making a motion ensure that
- 0:48it is clear concise and stated in the
- 0:51affirmative this is not the time to
- 0:53elaborate on your motion or try to
- 0:54motivate for it you will get the
- 0:56opportunity to justify your motion
- 0:58during the discussion period period
- 1:01however before discussion can begin
- 1:03another individual must second your
- 1:04motion otherwise it is lost note you
- 1:08don't have to be in support of a motion
- 1:10in order to Second it seconding simply
- 1:12means that you would like to see further
- 1:14debate and discussion
- 1:16happen if your motion has been moved and
- 1:18seconded it is placed before members for
- 1:21consideration and debate the Mover is
- 1:23always allowed to speak first and is
- 1:25given the opportunity to justify their
- 1:27motion during discussion only one
- 1:30speaker may speak at a
- 1:32time at any point during the discussion
- 1:35an individual can move to amend or
- 1:37modify a motion saying I move to amend
- 1:41the motion followed by the changes they
- 1:43wish to make after all discussion and
- 1:46Amendments have taken place members will
- 1:48vote by a show of hands whether or not
- 1:50they support the motion if the majority
- 1:52of members vote Yes then the motion
- 1:54passes
