- 0:27Hey guys, Metal Jesus here, and I'm back
- 0:29with part three of our epic 2,000mi road
- 0:33trip through Nevada, California, and
- 0:36Oregon. In previous parts one and two,
- 0:39we visited Reno, Nevada, and stayed in a
- 0:41casino. We did some bowling. We did some
- 0:44video game hunting. We went down and
- 0:46checked out Lake Tahoe. And then after
- 0:49that, we went to the Sacramento area
- 0:50where we visited the brand new Fire and
- 0:53Ice Retro Gaming Expo there. We had a
- 0:56great time at that expo and found a
- 0:58bunch of really cool video games, which
- 1:00I showed in the previous videos. But in
- 1:02part three, we are going to head over to
- 1:04the Pacific Coast and wind our way north
- 1:06up Highway 101. We're going to see some
- 1:09amazing sites along the way. We're also
- 1:13going to stop in Kuz Bay and check out
- 1:15some video game stores as well as some
- 1:17music records shops. Also take in some
- 1:20of the local scenery. And then we're
- 1:22going to end this trip in Portland,
- 1:24Oregon. There's a lot going on in this
- 1:26video, so let's take a look.

- 1:46This next leg of the road trip is about
- 1:48a 5-hour drive over to Eureka,
- 1:50California, as we head over to the coast
- 1:54and we get out of the big cities for a
- 1:56while. And this is the part of the road
- 1:58trip that Scott is actually looking
- 1:59forward to the most. Really for two
- 2:01reasons. The first one being he's never
- 2:03actually been to the Pacific coast in
- 2:06Northern California and Oregon. And it's
- 2:09one of those things where it's so
- 2:12beautiful and also so different than
- 2:14what we have up in Washington. The
- 2:17Oregon coast actually is pretty rugged
- 2:19and I like that about it. It's very
- 2:22beautiful pretty much everywhere you go.
- 2:25And the other reason is that we're
- 2:26getting out of the cities. You know, the
- 2:28whole point of this road trip is to get
- 2:30in our cars and drive them, get out of
- 2:32the city, get out of traffic and all
- 2:34that sort of mess and just enjoy our
- 2:36cars on these lonely, winding roads. And
- 2:41that's exactly what we did here. And
- 2:43both of our cars are very different from
- 2:45each other. So, mine is a 2022 GTI. It's
- 2:48a front-wheel drive car, and it weighs
- 2:50just a little over 3,000 lb. And then
- 2:53Scott's car is a 2024 BMW M3, which is a
- 2:56rearwheel drive car and weighs
- 2:59significantly more. It's about 1,000 lbs
- 3:01more than my car, but his also has much
- 3:05more horsepower. So, it's interesting to
- 3:08kind of see these two cars and how they
- 3:11drive on these back roads, these windy
- 3:13roads. Uh, it's fun cuz that's what
- 3:16they're made for. And what's cool is
- 3:18that once you get over to the coast,
- 3:20there are lots of opportunities to pull
- 3:22over and do a bunch of sightseeing. It
- 3:24happens pretty much every couple miles.
- 3:27Uh the first one that we ran into is
- 3:28Chandelier Tree in the Redwoods. You
- 3:32hear about this all the time. It's it's
- 3:35one of those iconic things in Northern
- 3:37California. You see it in movies and on
- 3:40postcards and posters and all that sort
- 3:42of stuff. Basically, it's where you
- 3:44drive your car through this massive
- 3:46tree. And yes, this old tree is still
- 3:50very much alive. Although the hole that
- 3:53you drive your car through is smaller
- 3:56and narrower than you might expect. I
- 3:59certainly was kind of surprised here
- 4:01because both of our cars, while not
- 4:04huge, they just barely fit through with
- 4:07only just like a couple inches to spare
- 4:09on either side. I was quite surprised.
- 4:12And I'll be honest, it's kind of cheesy,
- 4:14but it's also cool. I mean, you
- 4:15basically just show up here, you hang
- 4:17out for, you know, 10, 15 minutes, there
- 4:20is a little gift shop, and then you're
- 4:21on your way. So, it doesn't take a lot
- 4:23of time. It's not too expensive. And
- 4:25this roadside attraction has been around
- 4:28since the 1930s. So, it's iconic and
- 4:32again, it doesn't take a lot of time off
- 4:34the side road, so definitely check it
- 4:36out. You'll also run into stuff like
- 4:38Paul Bunan and his big blue ox babe.
- 4:41That's kind of funny. You can't miss it.
- 4:43It's massive just alongside the road.
- 4:46You can stop there and spend a couple
- 4:47hours kind of going through the forest.
- 4:49And there's just tons of places as you
- 4:51go north on 101 to pull off and take
- 4:55photos. You can also walk down to the
- 4:57beach on many of these. You know, check
- 4:59out the beautiful water, the beautiful
- 5:01scenery. It's honestly, it just goes on
- 5:03for miles and miles, hours and hours.
- 5:07It's it's truly stunning.
- 5:20Once we made it to Kuz Bay, the first
- 5:22stop I wanted to check out is Recycle
- 5:24Games. That is that game store that we
- 5:26first visited about 2 years ago. Now,
- 5:30immediately I noticed that they changed
- 5:31the look and the feel of the store since
- 5:33the last time I was here. I would say
- 5:35that there's probably a little bit less
- 5:36clutter. It's also a little bit easier
- 5:38to get around, but they still had it
- 5:40packed full of goodies. Annie, the store
- 5:43owner, came out and greeted me and she
- 5:45wanted to show some stuff that she had
- 5:47acquired, including this one of one Xbox
- 5:51Series X. And you notice here that it
- 5:54has a custom paint job on here, as well
- 5:56as the controller. And then inside is a
- 6:00congratulations letter. So, this was won
- 6:03by an Xbox fan here in Kous Bay. and
- 6:07then Microsoft sent it to him. And so
- 6:09here's the letter. Uh, very cool. And
- 6:12it's incredibly hard to put a value on
- 6:15it. Honestly, I don't even know if she's
- 6:16going to sell it. I think she's just got
- 6:18it in the store to show as kind of like
- 6:21a, you know, a show piece or a trophy or
- 6:23something that she would put on the wall
- 6:25because again, there's only one in the
- 6:27world. So, it's weird because, right,
- 6:30because it's so incredibly rare, but
- 6:31it's also the Xbox Series X. It's not
- 6:34It's not collectible yet, but I thought
- 6:37it was pretty neat.
- 6:43[Music]
- 6:51Another thing that they brought out to
- 6:52show me is this custommade Nintendo 64.
- 6:56Initially, they didn't tell me what was
- 6:58different about this, and you're
- 6:59probably noticing this off a little bit.
- 7:01Well, that's because it is a 3D printed
- 7:04shell that glows in the dark. And
- 7:07basically, this is just the machine that
- 7:08they use to test cartridges that are
- 7:10sold to them, but they wanted it to be
- 7:12unique and kind of stand out. And yeah,
- 7:15it's pretty cool looking. She also
- 7:17showed me the second storage room, which
- 7:19has expanded a lot since I was here 2
- 7:22years ago. When I was here 2 years ago,
- 7:24there's basically just stuff on the
- 7:25floor and a little bit, you know, on the
- 7:27wall. Uh since then she's had several
- 7:30new collections traded in. You can see
- 7:32right here there's hardly even any
- 7:35walking room in here. So uh this was
- 7:38quite the thing to see. Uh she did show
- 7:41that she actually got quite a bit more
- 7:42big box PC games as well as strategy
- 7:45guides. And I'll show you what I picked
- 7:47up from here uh at the end of this
- 7:50video. Along with video games, she's
- 7:52also added some stuff traded in from the
- 7:54original Dungeons and Dragons. So, she's
- 7:56got these books here signed by Gary
- 7:58Gyax. So, that was pretty cool. Not
- 8:01entirely sure what she's going to do
- 8:02with these. She said she might sell them
- 8:04on eBay. She might leave them in the
- 8:06store for, you know, a local collector.
- 8:08So, if you're interested, you might want
- 8:10to reach out to her. But overall, it was
- 8:12really fun going back into recycle
- 8:13games. I'm glad that Annie is still
- 8:15doing well and the store is doing great.
- 8:18And she's still talking about doing that
- 8:20museum. We'll have to see if that
- 8:21actually happens one day. But I know
- 8:23that she's got the inventory for because
- 8:26everywhere you look, there's something
- 8:27really interesting that she could put in
- 8:28that.
- 8:40It was also recommended I check out a
- 8:42local record store called Off the
- 8:44Record. I was excited to check this out
- 8:46because I've heard they've got a bunch
- 8:48of vinyl records. And I thought it was
- 8:50pretty interesting because way in the
- 8:52back as you walk through the store, they
- 8:55have a selection of turntables back
- 8:57there to kind of help people start out
- 8:59their vinyl music, you know, adventure
- 9:02essentially. So, you don't have to get
- 9:04it from Amazon. you can come here and
- 9:05actually get something that's tested and
- 9:07talk to them because they can basically
- 9:09recommend, you know, some really
- 9:11high-end stuff if that's what you're
- 9:12looking for, like this Macintosh setup
- 9:14here, or you can kind of go cheaper,
- 9:17basically just, you know, dip your toe
- 9:18in it a little bit and get one of those
- 9:20Crosley's. So, basically something for
- 9:22everyone. And so, I dug through many of
- 9:24the records here and I did find some
- 9:27really cool stuff. I'm going to share
- 9:28with you what I got at the end of the
- 9:30video.
- 9:42We also visited two state parks in the
- 9:44Kuz Bay area. And the first one you see
- 9:45here, uh, the tide is just way out,
- 9:49exposing way more of the beach than
- 9:51normal. And, uh, we were here actually
- 9:53in early in the morning on the second
- 9:54day. Not a ton of people here yet, which
- 9:57was kind of nice. So, we kind of had it
- 9:58all to ourselves. And then really close
- 10:00to this, just down the road a bit, was a
- 10:02second state park. And this one had a
- 10:05completely different look to it where
- 10:07you used to go out here and it's like
- 10:08super jagged cliffs and these rock
- 10:11formations. We stood here for quite a
- 10:13while kind of taking this in. Again, we
- 10:15kind of had the place to ourselves,
- 10:17which is pretty cool. That is one of the
- 10:19nice things when you visit these small
- 10:20little towns on the Oregon coast.
- 10:22They're not very big. You know, they
- 10:24don't have a ton of crowds. you know,
- 10:26maybe on holiday weekends and stuff, but
- 10:29for the most part, it's pretty easy to
- 10:30go and, you know, just kind of chill out
- 10:33and be by yourself.
- 10:36[Music]
- 10:40It was also recommended that I visit
- 10:42Mingus Gardens in the city, and I'm glad
- 10:45that I did. It was a really nice just
- 10:48afternoon
- 10:50walking around this small little lake.
- 10:52There's this little walking path that
- 10:54goes around it. Again, not a ton of
- 10:56people here. This was pretty chill.
- 11:00Beautiful. There's lots of ducks and
- 11:02other birds just kind of flittering
- 11:04about. So, that was definitely a nice
- 11:06break as well. So, you know, it's good
- 11:09to get out and touch grass every once in
- 11:10a while, right?
- 11:23[Music]
- 11:26While I was doing all of this, Scott
- 11:27took the afternoon and rented a UTV on
- 11:30the sand dunes. The cool thing is that
- 11:32it's only about five or six miles
- 11:34outside of town, so it's not very far.
- 11:36You go out there, you rent this thing,
- 11:38and you basically just have a blast kind
- 11:40of bombing around the sand dunes. He
- 11:43came back with a huge smile on his face.
- 11:45So yeah, in addition to, you know, it's
- 11:48fun to explore beaches, but yeah, you
- 11:49can actually do this as well, especially
- 11:51when you're visiting Kuz Bay. It was at
- 11:54this point that it was time for Scott
- 11:55and I to part ways. His plan is to
- 11:58continue going up the Oregon coast for a
- 12:00bit. He wants to check out more of the
- 12:01scenery there because he's never been.
- 12:03And I'm going to head over to Portland
- 12:05for a couple days. It's funny because
- 12:07when we were planning this trip, Scott
- 12:10discovered that Tieuk Cheese Factory is
- 12:13on the Oregon coast and he is a massive
- 12:16fan of their cheese. And I mean, who
- 12:19isn't really? It's so good, right? We
- 12:21eat it all the time. But uh yeah, he had
- 12:23never been to the cheese factory, so he
- 12:25made it a point to drive up there and go
- 12:28through the factory, do the whole
- 12:29touristy thing, visit the gift shop. He
- 12:32was very excited. And then later on, he
- 12:34ended up at a Bare Naked Ladies concert.
- 12:38He he texted me. He's like, "Dude, I'm
- 12:39going to go see the Bare Naked Ladies
- 12:40tonight." I'm like, "Really?" I didn't
- 12:42even know that they were playing, but he
- 12:44is all about live concert, which is
- 12:45cool. So, it's funny because I was
- 12:48reminded that they did the theme song
- 12:50for The Big Bang Theory. I love that
- 12:53show. I love that theme song. And so, he
- 12:55actually sent me a couple videos of them
- 12:57playing that song, but unfortunately, I
- 12:59can't use the audio here on YouTube
- 13:01because of copyright w. And then for me,
- 13:05I wanted to end this epic trip visiting
- 13:07Side Quest Games in the Portland area.
- 13:10So, Side Quest Games made this entire
- 13:12trip possible. They are the sponsor of
- 13:14this video and I was thrilled to get
- 13:17another chance to go visit that store
- 13:19and that's exactly what I did. And so I
- 13:22got to meet up with Josh and the
- 13:23employees and walk around the store for
- 13:25a bit, kind of explore some of the stuff
- 13:27that's going on there. They recently had
- 13:30a full GameCube game collection traded
- 13:33into the store. That is not something
- 13:35you see every day and it included some
- 13:38heavy hitters. thing about the GameCube
- 13:41is obviously it wasn't as popular as the
- 13:44PlayStation 2. And so some of these
- 13:46games either were exclusive to it and
- 13:49kind of hard to get today or they maybe
- 13:51just didn't sell very well. And so
- 13:53people going for complete GameCube
- 13:55collections know how some of these
- 13:57titles I'm showing you right here can be
- 13:59very hard to find and very expensive. He
- 14:03also has the Simpsons branded Xbox 360
- 14:06and controller. So again, this is
- 14:09something that you don't see every day.
- 14:10They didn't make a ton of these and
- 14:12collectors of Xbox have been wanting to
- 14:14find this. Uh he's got it in the store.
- 14:17Now, what's cool about this one, it
- 14:19still has the original Blade operating
- 14:22system on it, and I don't know about
- 14:23you, but I loved that version of the 360
- 14:28operating system. They changed it over
- 14:30the years and it, you know, it was fine,
- 14:34but this original Blade version is
- 14:36pretty cool and this still has it. Here
- 14:38are their store mascots, Louiso and
- 14:41Marcus. I guess these were originally
- 14:43licensed by Nintendo back in 1988.
- 14:47They were distributed by carnival
- 14:49retailers and I guess they came in
- 14:52several sizes and these things are huge.
- 14:55Some other stuff that was pretty cool in
- 14:56the store. He has these retro hats. Now,
- 14:59I'm not a hat guy, but I do like seeing
- 15:02some of these things here. So, that was
- 15:04pretty cool to see. He also has a
- 15:06special version of Uncharted 2. Now, I'm
- 15:09trying to remember, but I think these
- 15:11were sent to influencers and some of the
- 15:14reviewers of the day. Specifically, I
- 15:17remember that dagger, that key dagger
- 15:20being a part of this. I was very jealous
- 15:22cuz a friend of mine got it. Britney,
- 15:24she got one of these. It's probably
- 15:25still in her collection, too. So, loved
- 15:28Uncharted 2. That's probably my favorite
- 15:30game of the series. And this is a really
- 15:32special version of that. Another thing
- 15:34that came in with that GameCube
- 15:36collection is this sealed copy of
- 15:38Pokemon Channel. Now, that by itself
- 15:41isn't very unusual. However, if you flip
- 15:44it over, you notice that it comes
- 15:45bundled with a Pokemon Mini. We hadn't
- 15:49seen that before, have you? And so, as
- 15:52you can see, Side Quest Games in the
- 15:54Portland area is a great retro gaming
- 15:56store. They've always got a ton of
- 15:57really interesting stuff to find in
- 15:59here. And Josh, the owner, is a big part
- 16:03of the gaming community. He's also one
- 16:06of the organizers of the Portland Retro
- 16:08Gaming Expo. So, in addition to running
- 16:10the store, he's also spending time
- 16:12making sure that that expo is going to
- 16:14be as great as it always is. And so, if
- 16:17you're in the area, you should
- 16:18definitely check out Side Quest Games.
- 16:20It's a fantastic store and I want to
- 16:22thank them for sponsoring this entire
- 16:24road trip. And with that said, you're
- 16:26probably wondering what I picked up.
- 16:28Well, it's been a while since I bought a
- 16:30new Nintendo cartridge, but I mentioned
- 16:33to Josh that one of the things I I miss
- 16:36in my collection is a complete copy of
- 16:39Excite Bike. It's my favorite NES game
- 16:42by far. I rode motorcycles as a kid. I
- 16:45was passionate about them and I loved
- 16:48this game and for whatever reason I've
- 16:49just never had a complete copy of it. So
- 16:52he had this version here and I picked it
- 16:54up at Side Quest. He also had this
- 16:57random game I'd never seen before called
- 16:59Iron Cryptic. No idea what this was. I
- 17:02picked it up. I played it a little bit
- 17:04so far and it's kind of like Gauntlet
- 17:08meets Smash TV. It's pretty wild. So,
- 17:13I'm not entirely sure how I feel about
- 17:14it. It's I had fun playing it so far,
- 17:16but I definitely want to give it a
- 17:18little bit more time. I I just, you
- 17:20know, frankly just picked it up. I've
- 17:22also been casually buying UMD movies for
- 17:25the PSP. Not a ton, but if I see them
- 17:28and they're cheap, I'll pick them up.
- 17:29And I picked this up for a specific
- 17:32reason, and it's because I've always
- 17:34wanted to watch the original Assault on
- 17:36Precinct 13. I've heard it's really
- 17:38good. I've never seen it. And then he
- 17:40also had the remake, which I have no
- 17:43idea if it's any good or not, but I
- 17:45figured what the heck, I'll give it a
- 17:46shot. And so, yeah, I've been picking up
- 17:48random UMD movies here and there. Again,
- 17:52I'm not going to pay more than just a
- 17:53couple bucks for most of these because
- 17:55obviously the format is very limited,
- 17:58but it's also kind of neat. So, I, you
- 18:01know, I'm kind of dipping my toe a
- 18:03little bit. Here's a horror game that I
- 18:05saw on the Switch that I swear I watched
- 18:08a trailer or maybe a review at some
- 18:11point. I'm not entirely sure, but I
- 18:13looked at the back and I like its black
- 18:15and white aesthetics. Looks kind of like
- 18:17manga or something. So, I don't know
- 18:20anything about it. I have no idea if
- 18:22it's even any good or not, but it seemed
- 18:24interesting, so I picked it up. I did
- 18:27pick up two big box PC games in Kuz Bay.
- 18:29You see the first one here, Bloodstone.
- 18:31Don't know anything about it, but could
- 18:34be kind of cool. Looks like an RPG of
- 18:35some type. And then another RPG here by
- 18:38Cerech and I've seen this one before.
- 18:42I've never owned it, never played it,
- 18:44but thought it might be kind of cool to
- 18:46pick up. It was complete and a decent
- 18:48price. I did pick up some music in Koos
- 18:50Bay. The first one being the singles
- 18:52soundtrack on vinyl. So, I've owned the
- 18:55CD version of this for decades and I
- 18:58absolutely love the movie, of course.
- 19:00Right. It's classic Seattle,
- 19:03but uh I didn't own the vinyl version.
- 19:05And what's cool about this particular
- 19:06one here is that it has a CD on the
- 19:09inside. And I believe it's extra songs.
- 19:12I'm not entirely sure yet. Haven't
- 19:13listened to it, but I saw this. I was
- 19:15like, "Oh, yeah. Must own that on
- 19:17vinyl." And then I was surprised to see
- 19:19this. So, this is Urge Overkill. And
- 19:23this has a special place in my heart
- 19:25because in the '9s I worked at a record
- 19:28store in the Seattle area. And when this
- 19:31album came out, we played it in the
- 19:35record store probably every day for like
- 19:38weeks, if not months after this came
- 19:41out. It's such a cool album. I don't
- 19:43know if a lot of people remember it or
- 19:45not. Um, but man, it's a great album. A
- 19:49ton of variety on this album. So, I was
- 19:51very happy to get a copy of this. And
- 19:54so, that guys is the conclusion of my
- 19:56epic 2,000mi road trip starting in
- 19:58Washington State, going down to Oregon,
- 20:01Nevada, California, back up to Oregon,
- 20:04and then finally home in Seattle.
- 20:07I hope you guys enjoyed it. We had a
- 20:10great time. Although, if I'm honest, by
- 20:13the end of it, I was getting pretty sick
- 20:16of hotels
- 20:18cuz we stayed in six hotels over 2
- 20:20weeks. And so, I was getting fairly
- 20:22tired of the hotel life at this point.
- 20:25And I was ready to go home. But we had a
- 20:28blast and I'd do it again in a
- 20:29heartbeat. I also want to give another
- 20:31thank you to Side Quest Games for
- 20:33sponsoring this trip. That was very cool
- 20:36of Josh. And uh yeah, check out his
- 20:38store if you're in the area cuz you
- 20:40won't regret it. And as always guys, I
- 20:43want to thank you for watching my
- 20:44channel. Thank you for subscribing and
- 20:45take care.
