- 1:10you're watching this on YouTube, you can
- 1:11click the link in the description to go
- 1:13straight to the listing. So, without
- 1:15further ado, let's get into this
- 1:17interview. First up, let's learn a
- 1:19little bit about you. Can you tell us
- 1:21about your background in building and
- 1:23running online businesses?
- 1:25>> This is actually the first YouTube
- 1:26channel that I've built. I originally
- 1:28started this when I was working with
- 1:30previous job where I wasn't earning as
- 1:32much to really reach my financial goals.
- 1:35And so, I wanted to branch out and start
- 1:37something on my own. And I happened to
- 1:39chance upon learning how to create and
- 1:42build a YouTube channel, and that's how
- 1:45this business started.
- 1:46>> Why are you selling the business now
- 1:48instead of keeping it and growing it
- 1:50further?
- 1:51>> I'm selling this business because I've
- 1:53realized that my passion and my energy
- 1:57no longer really aligns with this
- 1:59YouTube channel. There is something else
- 2:00that I'm pursuing at the moment, a
- 2:02different career path outside of YouTube
- 2:04that I want to direct all of my
- 2:06attention and energy and focus towards.
- 2:08And I feel like whenever I have to
- 2:12dedicate time and energy or even just
- 2:14thought process towards this channel, it
- 2:16feels like it's a distraction. And so I
- 2:20kind of just want to exit this business,
- 2:22this YouTube channel, so I can focus
- 2:24solely on where my passion and my energy
- 2:26lies.
- 2:27>> Can you describe the amount and the type
- 2:30of work that you do on this business to
- 2:32maintain it?
- 2:33>> At this stage of the YouTube channel and
- 2:36its growth, I would say that I dedicate
- 2:39maybe 3 to 5 hours per week. And most of
- 2:42this time is spent typically doing
- 2:45either research on competitors, like
- 2:48competitor YouTube channels, reviewing
- 2:51work from the team, and also making sure
- 2:53work goes through the pipeline so that
- 2:55it's passed on to the next stage of the
- 2:57video production process, and video
- 2:59ideation. So coming up with new video
- 3:02ideas, those are the things that take
- 3:04the most amount of time and I guess
- 3:07mental effort.
- 3:08>> So if you were to keep this business,
- 3:11what are some of the ways you would try
- 3:12to grow it?
- 3:13>> If I was to keep this business, there
- 3:15would be two things that I would focus
- 3:17mainly upon in order to grow the
- 3:19channel. First and foremost would be the
- 3:21video ideas. So doing the research,
- 3:25coming up with good video ideas that
- 3:28have good potential to create virality
- 3:31and attract a large audience and
- 3:33viewership, and also match with what the
- 3:36current audience on the channel wants to
- 3:39watch. That would be one of the main
- 3:40goals of building the channel. The
- 3:43second would be to increase the video
- 3:46production, the speed at which the team
- 3:48produces videos. Right now the biggest
- 3:51bottleneck
- 3:52of video production is the animator just
- 3:55because it takes so much time in order
- 3:57for them to animate and put together the
- 3:59video. So, if I were to continue, I
- 4:02would look to hire more animators to
- 4:04join the team. That way you can have
- 4:06multiple videos in production and this
- 4:09would be a great opportunity to increase
- 4:12video frequency because the YouTube
- 4:14algorithm really likes consistency when
- 4:17uploading videos.
- 4:19>> Right. And what would you say are the
- 4:21biggest risks with this business that
- 4:23buyers should be aware of?
- 4:25>> I would say that the biggest risks with
- 4:26this business that a buyer should be
- 4:28aware of is two things. So, first would
- 4:31be making sure that your videos comply
- 4:34with YouTube's monetization policy. So,
- 4:36if any of the videos that are produced
- 4:39go against YouTube's monetization policy
- 4:42for their videos, such as like for
- 4:44example, really graphic scenes like
- 4:46violence or death, you could lose
- 4:49monetization rights for that video and
- 4:51that would be a pretty big setback
- 4:53because of the video production cost as
- 4:56well as YouTube potentially flagging
- 4:58your channel and just making it so that
- 5:01you have to be more cautious moving
- 5:02forward because YouTube is going to be
- 5:05like more aware of your channel and like
- 5:07start to monitor your channel more. The
- 5:09second biggest risk would be that
- 5:11because the entire process is done by a
- 5:14full production team, if any member of
- 5:17this production team were to leave,
- 5:18you'd have to find a pretty solid
- 5:22replacement and it could be a risk
- 5:25because the audience might be a little
- 5:28thrown off by a change, like change in
- 5:31voice or a change in animation style.
- 5:34But, this is something that I don't
- 5:36think would have that much of an impact
- 5:38on the audience as long as the quality
- 5:39of the videos are even better and as
- 5:43long as the channel keeps producing
- 5:45educational and mainly entertaining
- 5:48videos as long as the quality stays the
- 5:50same, it should be okay.
- 5:52>> How much support are you willing to
- 5:53offer the buyer who acquires this
- 5:55business?
- 5:57>> In terms of support that I'm willing to
- 5:58offer the buyer,
- 6:00I'm willing to basically go through the
- 6:02entire process of what I do, my entire
- 6:06task process, explain my thought process
- 6:09as well behind how I do things and what
- 6:12I do in order to kind of teach the new
- 6:14buyer from the ground up like how to
- 6:17start managing this business, this
- 6:19YouTube channel, as well as what I think
- 6:22in terms of the video ideas, like the
- 6:26current direction that it's going, and
- 6:28how I would act within the next 30 days
- 6:31if I had sold my channel and if I was
- 6:33continuing to build this channel. But, I
- 6:36would be very open to assisting in
- 6:38whatever way I can.
- 6:39>> Are you open to negotiating something
- 6:41like an earn-out agreement?
- 6:43>> I wouldn't really be open to earn-out
- 6:46payment structure simply because the
- 6:49main reason why I'm selling this channel
- 6:51is because I want to focus all my energy
- 6:54towards other ventures in life, and so
- 6:57this doesn't really align with my
- 6:58purpose in selling the channel, but I am
- 7:01open to negotiations, so yeah.
- 7:04>> Okay, final question. If you had to put
- 7:06yourself in the shoes of a buyer, why is
- 7:09your business a business worth buying?
- 7:12>> I think that there's a lot of reasons
- 7:14why this business is worth buying. First
- 7:16and foremost, the YouTube channel itself
- 7:18doesn't require a lot of work to
- 7:20maintain and grow, really. Like on
- 7:22average, I spend maybe 3 to 5 hours per
- 7:25week working on the channel, and a lot
- 7:27of that is simply idea generation and
- 7:30reviewing work that my team is sending
- 7:32to me.
- 7:33So, to begin with, there isn't a lot of
- 7:35work that goes into building the
- 7:37channel, and I also think that there's a
- 7:40lot of opportunity for growth that the
- 7:43channel has. First, the idea generation
- 7:46and basically coming up with better
- 7:48video ideas is one of the best
- 7:51opportunities for this channel to grow
- 7:53because really like video packaging is
- 7:56one of the most important parts of a
- 7:58video going viral. So, if you can really
- 8:00crack that, then the channel has a lot
- 8:03more potential to grow because it
- 8:04already has substantial viewership and a
- 8:06viewer base. So, if the channel or if a
- 8:09video just piggybacks off of that, it
- 8:11could very easily go viral, which of
- 8:14course brings in a lot of ad revenue and
- 8:16sponsorship opportunities. The second
- 8:19biggest opportunity would be to simply
- 8:21increase the video production and really
- 8:25like posting content on a consistent and
- 8:28regular basis is really favored by
- 8:31YouTube because YouTube wants to keep
- 8:32their viewers on and if viewers
- 8:35consistently come on to watch your
- 8:37videos on a consistent basis, YouTube
- 8:39starts to push out your videos more. The
- 8:41main reasons why I haven't really been
- 8:44able to take advantage of these growth
- 8:46opportunities is because recently I've
- 8:49been pretty focused on other aspects or
- 8:52like a different career that I'm trying
- 8:53to pursue. And so, there's a lot of
- 8:56opportunity here that I'm not really
- 8:58capitalizing on, but I know that a new
- 9:00buyer was coming in with a fresh set of
- 9:02eyes and energy for building the
- 9:05business can really dedicate to growing
- 9:07the business and the channel.
