6. 0:13near a river or stream and you want to
7. 0:16start a fire what do you have out there
8. 0:18you know you got if you can find some
9. 0:20fat wood around that's great if you
10. 0:22don't have ow if you don't have some
11. 0:25sort of fire starter on you what can you
12. 0:27use out in the wilderness well something
13. 0:29that I like to use that is abundant in
14. 0:33this area is something called River
15. 0:36Birch so this tree just fell so it's
16. 0:38going to be a little tricky to get to it
17. 0:40but I'll get to it um so I'll show you
18. 0:44right
19. 0:44here River Birch you can see the bark
20. 0:48peeling off it's beautiful I'm going to
21. 0:50go get a bunch I got it I got it couple
22. 0:52of options start peeling it off I like
23. 0:56to get stuff that's kind of the thinner
24. 0:58pieces and not thick ER like this
25. 1:01stuff's
26. 1:03good the more of it the better so I just
27. 1:05kind of put it bunch in my pocket and
28. 1:07keep going
29. 1:09back see like these thicker pieces here
30. 1:12I don't love those as much so the thing
31. 1:15with Birch that's cool is that it has
32. 1:18Birch oil in it and it's kind of like
33. 1:21lighter fluid sort of see this
34. 1:24here now truthfully I like to use white
35. 1:27birch if I can find it there's just no
36. 1:29white Birch around this area um I I feel
37. 1:32like I'm cursed like there's all these
38. 1:34areas in Pennsylvania that have so much
39. 1:36white birch but not here man not here
40. 1:40not in Bucks County
41. 1:42PA not where I am
42. 1:44anyway but we do have a cool Creek this
43. 1:47is the n sham Creek flowing right behind
44. 1:48me it's pretty sweet so we're going to
45. 1:50head over here see if I can um just show
46. 1:55you how this works I don't kill myself
47. 1:57on this log oh boy oh boy

49. 2:05to uh set this up so you can see the
50. 2:09fire or maybe the fire here's my
51. 2:14Birch that's what I've collected thus
52. 2:19far and I'll show you what I'm going to
53. 2:21do with it I'm going to take this
54. 2:24Birch I'll take this Birch here and I'm
55. 2:28going to I like to do
56. 2:31this crumple it down dry it
57. 2:36out get it like
58. 2:42this Smoke's coming out of
59. 2:44it break open those
60. 2:47fibers and you can see it so now we got
61. 2:50to start that puppy up if I had a
62. 2:51lighter it' be easy but I don't so I
63. 2:55have
64. 2:56this this mora knife here I love more
65. 3:00knives they're just awesome one's kind
66. 3:02of like almost it is brand new the fer
67. 3:04Rod's not even the paint's not even off
68. 3:06it so if you get a new fer Rod you have
69. 3:07to get that paint off first see that
70. 3:10nice strip once you get that paint off
71. 3:13there
72. 3:14now it'll strike pretty nice so boom
73. 3:18boom so let's see if we can use this
74. 3:21spark with this birch bark and get a
75. 3:25fire
76. 3:26going I want to rub this up
77. 3:30like all this dried dust is coming out
78. 3:32of this birch
79. 3:33bark put it down here I set up a back
80. 3:37stop I have some pencil lead sticks
81. 3:39ready to go so now take
82. 3:57this all right a good
83. 4:02sign get that going a
84. 4:06bit see if we can catch some of these
85. 4:09little
86. 4:11ones just with birch
87. 4:14bark just got a couple little sticks
88. 4:17here let's see if we can get some of
89. 4:18them to catch
90. 4:19on be good if we
91. 4:21can and the cool thing about this is man
92. 4:24I didn't have
93. 4:25any uh you know any kind of lighter or
94. 4:28anything like that just one emergency F
95. 4:30Rod wait till the flame goes above this
96. 4:33level then you put your next set on and
97. 4:36just like that birch bark this River bir
98. 4:38stuff is pretty awesome get a quick fire
99. 4:41gone you don't need
100. 4:44anything other than this little MOA
101. 4:47Light My Fire knife pretty sweet it's
102. 4:50got this Ferro Rod that comes out throws
103. 4:53a nice spark can't beat it once you get
104. 4:57this

106. 5:00throw some thicker stuff on
107. 5:02here get that to catch all from
108. 5:10birchbark so there you have it River
109. 5:13Birch right over here find a river go to
110. 5:16Pennsylvania and you too can make a
111. 5:18river birch fire pretty easily so go
