2. 0:03Good evening. First for local news, the
3. 0:05chilling confessions of Green River
4. 0:06killer Gary Ridgeway.
5. 0:07Today, investigators released hundreds
6. 0:09of hours of videotape of their
7. 0:11interrogation of Ridgeway. His field
8. 0:14trips showing police where he hid bodies
9. 0:17and intriguing discussions between
10. 0:19Ridgeway and a forensic psychologist. We
11. 0:22have complete Team 4 coverage tonight.
12. 0:24KOMO fors Liz Roa and Emily Langley have
13. 0:27been pouring through the hours and hours
14. 0:28of video and the transcripts. We begin
15. 0:31tonight with Liz and some of the most
16. 0:33shocking revelations. Liz. Well, Kathy,
17. 0:35much of this material is quite graphic.
18. 0:38What is also startling here is that Gary
19. 0:40Ridgeway lays out his confession with
20. 0:42little or no emotion. It's a robotic
21. 0:45recitation of his brutal crimes and his
22. 0:48twisted justification for mass murder.
23. 0:52But I thought I was doing you guys a
24. 0:53favor. Killing killing prostitutes here.
25. 0:56You guys can't control them, but I can.
26. 0:59Okay. And
27. 1:01for the first time, we hear the twisted
28. 1:03reasoning of the Green River killer. He
29. 1:06believed he was solving the prostitute
30. 1:08problem.
31. 1:10And I I choked her to death.
32. 1:16Then I took my socks off and
33. 1:20I ti got them in in a knot and tied them
34. 1:24around her neck and
35. 1:27tight as tight as I could. I'm quite
36. 1:28sure I put
37. 1:29in hundreds of hours of interviews with
38. 1:31police over 7 months. Gary Rididgeway
39. 1:34laid out his grizzly confession hoping
40. 1:37to save himself from the death penalty.
41. 1:40I agree to um
42. 1:45plead guilty to the counts that I
43. 1:47committed, not the others.
44. 1:49This date is June 13th, 2003. It's
45. 1:53Ridgeway's first interview with police.
46. 1:55He tells them he's killed at least 47
47. 1:58women, but it could be as many as 53.

63. 2:32what they gained, investigators tell me
64. 2:35these trips troubled them because they
65. 2:37knew Ridgeway was reliving his crimes,
66. 2:40getting one more thrill at their
67. 2:42expense.
68. 2:43This is this is definitely the spot.
69. 2:46And it was sometimes difficult for
70. 2:48police to listen to the killer's
71. 2:50confession.
72. 2:50And so she raised her head up and that's
73. 2:53when I
74. 2:56uh put my arm around her, my right arm,
75. 2:58and started choking her. Here, Ridgeway
76. 3:02describes how he killed one woman in the
77. 3:04woods near SeaTac airport in a horrible
78. 3:07twist. Ridgeway left his young son
79. 3:10waiting in his truck just a few hundred
80. 3:12feet away.
81. 3:13Matthew, you know, was sitting back in
82. 3:16the truck. I don't know if what he was
83. 3:19what he was doing. I told Matthew I'd be
84. 3:21back in a couple minutes. I go for a
85. 3:24walk.
