  1. 0:03hey everyone my name is John Roca I'm
  2. 0:06from Collider I'm here with three of the
  3. 0:08incredible cast members from Richard
  4. 0:10Jewell please excuse my throat I was
  5. 0:12coughing all night so but I'm ready that
  6. 0:14because I couldn't turn down an
  7. 0:15opportunity to view Sam Rockwell Kathy
  8. 0:17Bates and Jon Hamm I want to start off
  9. 0:19first by saying I wanna start my first
  10. 0:21question Kathy you're always playing
  11. 0:23these strong no-nonsense women and at
  12. 0:25first glance you might not think Bobby
  13. 0:27jewel is but she shows us a different
  14. 0:29kind of strength you give her the
  15. 0:31strength throughout the movie I don't
  16. 0:32know what did you strive to bring to
  17. 0:35your portrayal of her that you thought
  18. 0:37was the most important thing for you
  19. 0:38her resilience I would say and her deep
  20. 0:42love of her son she's still hurting it's
  21. 0:45still very emotional even after all
  22. 0:47these what does he just say it was 23
  23. 0:49years since it happened it's still very
  24. 0:52emotional and even though I'm not a mom
  25. 0:54I wanted to glean as much as I could
  26. 0:58from her I know she had miscarriages and
  27. 1:00he was her only son and so it was you
  28. 1:04know and I just wanted to get it right
  29. 1:08for her we all I think wanted justice
  30. 1:11for Richard okay Sam you're no stranger
  31. 1:14to playing these scenes dealing
  32. 1:16quote/unquote supporting characters for
  33. 1:18lack of better term from guy and Galaxy
  34. 1:19Quest to Watson Brian and Richard Jewell
  35. 1:21now but there was a freedom that you
  36. 1:23gave Watson and I don't think I've seen
  37. 1:26you play in any of your roles and I want
  38. 1:28to know was there was that something you
  39. 1:29brought to it yourself personally or was
  40. 1:31it conversations with people around
  41. 1:34Richard your lawyer and now like I met
  42. 1:36with the real Watson yeah Brian and he's
  43. 1:38he's pretty pretty colorful character
  44. 1:41he's really interesting that to be
  45. 1:43around he's he's very cocky and he's
  46. 1:47funny and he's opinionated he's a lot of
  47. 1:50things so it was he pretty easy -
  48. 1:51there's a lot to draw from yeah
  49. 1:54as an actor were you excited when you
  50. 1:55met him you're like oh I can play this
  51. 1:56yeah definitely definitely
  52. 1:58he was boy he's wild yeah he's wild yeah
  53. 2:01it comes through certainly John you are
  54. 2:03back playing an FBI agent you know we're
  55. 2:05a national organization Claire met from
  56. 2:07the town it's not easy to play a villain
  57. 2:09in these
  58. 2:10and a piece like this what did you focus
  59. 2:12on getting right with him in your scenes
  60. 2:15well you know I think it's it's it's
  61. 2:19it's hard it's hard to describe this guy
  62. 2:20is the necessarily the villain um
  63. 2:22because I don't think there's really any
  64. 2:24malice and what he's doing is he's
  65. 2:26trying to do his job and he's just he
  66. 2:28does it to the best of his ability and
  67. 2:29he's he survives on his instinct and his
  68. 2:32in the strength of his conviction and
  69. 2:34and and he just got it wrong yeah and it
  70. 2:38happens sometimes and I think we have to
  71. 2:41remember that sometimes that happens you
  72. 2:44know I think when when you just take
  73. 2:46everything at face value as the case was
  74. 2:48here it can sometimes be wrong and all
  75. 2:52the evidence can point in one direction
  76. 2:53and it can point in the wrong direction
  77. 2:55which was the case here and when they
  78. 2:57end up finally catching the guy that did
  79. 2:58it by that point he had bombed he had
  80. 3:02set off four other bombs and planted
  81. 3:03several others that hadn't exploded yet
  82. 3:06and so that guy's in jail for the rest
  83. 3:09of all of everybody's life so that's
  84. 3:13that's the important thing to remember
  85. 3:14is just that you know the movie isn't
  86. 3:16really about an indictment of law
  87. 3:18enforcement or media or anything it's
  88. 3:20just that let's let's let's think and
  89. 3:22before we rush to judgment on things
  90. 3:24like that yeah and I think you know
  91. 3:26what's great about this film is that
  92. 3:27everyone gets to breathe such a part of
  93. 3:29a life of these characters I I cried a
  94. 3:31couple times throughout the movie just
  95. 3:32the emotion of exact member living
  96. 3:35through it and then seeing it again all
  97. 3:37over again I think the weight and the
  98. 3:39gravity and the talent you all brought
  99. 3:41to these characters to bring them with
  100. 3:42life for us again in a more visceral way
  101. 3:45was fantastic when I was one last
  102. 3:47question from the three of you obviously
  103. 3:49actors talk you all working with Clint
  104. 3:50Eastwood like what was the preparation
  105. 3:53for all three you maybe separately or
  106. 3:55together before you walk on a sabic
  107. 3:56leanest food who's known to do one or
  108. 3:57two takes and moving on yeah I was
  109. 4:06pretty nervous when I did my first scene
  110. 4:09with him but he's so gentle and kind and
  111. 4:12he's he's an actor as well as a
  112. 4:13wonderful director so he knows us and he
  113. 4:15you know when I was working on a press
  114. 4:18conference scene I was trying to you
  115. 4:19know work on my emotion
  116. 4:21and he noticed a few people coming over
  117. 4:23and he said leave her alone leave her
  118. 4:25alone
  119. 4:26you know and I really appreciated that
  120. 4:28you know because a lot of directors they
  121. 4:31just sit behind the video no they and
  122. 4:33you it's an adversarial role and he's
  123. 4:36right in there with you very engaged you
  124. 4:38know I was very engaged in all facets of
  125. 4:40it it was really lovely to see that's
  126. 4:42awesome but diapers I like it all right
  127. 4:44this is John Rocker for Collider with
  128. 4:47Sam Rockwell candy beets and Jon Hamm
  129. 4:49for Richard Jewell go see this one trust
  130. 4:51me you'll love it
